Celebrating Season 2 and Guest Successes
00:00:30
Speaker
Hello, hello and welcome back everyone for this special Season 2 Wrap-Up Edition. Honestly, I cannot believe that Season 2 has concluded with these 12 phenomenal guests.
00:00:46
Speaker
Obviously, I myself am very biased, but I'm just so incredibly proud of all the amazing work that my amazing guests have achieved, not just this past year, but for many, many years. And I know the future is going to be very, very bright because
00:01:05
Speaker
Every single one of them is a trailblazer in so many different ways.
Amplifying Women's Voices and Achievements
00:01:10
Speaker
And it's been such an honor for me to have the opportunity to have the opportunity to introduce them, introduce their stories to you, and to amplify their voices and their work. Because you all know by now, my purpose in life is to be a hype woman for other women. And I certainly think that we've achieved that through this podcast over the past two seasons.
Elizabeth Galbitt: Venture Capital Journey
00:01:34
Speaker
You know, we started out season two with billion dollar venture capitalist Elizabeth Galbitt, co-founder of So Gal Ventures. She has been a big role model and inspiration to me for many, many years. So it was a true pinch me moment to have her on the show and share a little bit about her journey. Obviously she's been very successful, but
00:02:02
Speaker
Now, in the beginning when she was starting out, people were laughing at her. People in the VC industry, mainly, you know, male VCs, and now she is one of the most successful VCs out there. So just incredible story.
Inclusive E-Commerce with John Vicha
00:02:18
Speaker
We also had the opportunity to learn more about the importance of inclusive e-commerce and self-advocacy from my dear friend, John Vicha, who is a Forbes 30 under 30 honoree and co-founder and CEO of Hugh.
00:02:35
Speaker
I also really loved my conversation with the incredible Victoria Kennedy.
Investing in Women of Color with Victoria Kennedy
00:02:40
Speaker
And we talked about why women of color are the venture capital world's untapped goldmine. If you remember, Victoria is the founder of Seed to Harvest. They specifically focus on investing in women of color founders.
00:02:57
Speaker
Highly recommend checking out her work because it's so, so important. As we mentioned before, before 2021, only 93 black women founders in the United States had ever raised a million dollars or more in funding, which is absolutely ridiculous. I mean, the fact that we're even able to precisely count that number is just freaking outrageous. So really appreciate Victoria and the work that she's doing in that space.
Life as a Full-time Creator with Gigi Robinson
00:03:28
Speaker
Then we had the wonderful Gigi Robinson gave us a very candid and very vulnerable behind the scenes look into the life of a full-time creator. We talked about challenges, success.
00:03:47
Speaker
And also the financial realities of the creator economy. I think that was a very, very surprising and insightful conversation to me personally, because, you know, when we scroll on social, oftentimes we have these preconceived notions about what the life of a public figure or a content creator might look like, but it rarely
00:04:14
Speaker
accurately reflects reality. So really appreciate it. Gigi's candid there.
Introduction to Angel Investing with Bridget L. Smith
00:04:22
Speaker
Then we had the incredible Bridget L. Smith, who is just one of my heroes for this year. She gave such an incredibly comprehensive introduction to the world of angel investing, venture capital, and that episode we had with her, which almost lasted an entire hour, is really more of a masterclass. I did very little talking because having
00:04:48
Speaker
had the opportunity to listen in to one of her presentations. I was just so blown away and just wanted to make sure we get the opportunity to share as much goodness with you all out there as possible. So if you've been thinking about getting into angel investing, venture capital, that episode with Bridget L. Smith is definitely the one that you should check out. Maybe this is something you could listen to over the holidays.
Social Impact Success with Jasmine Anuna
00:05:15
Speaker
Then my dear, dear friend, Jasmine Anuna was on the show as well. She is an award-winning founder of The Bloom, which is the world's largest community of social impact leaders. She has the head of the Chanel Foundation, prime ministers, like really, really big people in her community. So we talked a lot about her career journey, her vision as the founder of The Bloom and what it means to be successful in the social impact space.
Financial Literacy Shift with Galia Gichon
00:05:45
Speaker
Then there was also the wonderful Galia Gichon, who is the founder of Down to Earth Finance. She gave us some insight into driving financial literacy for women. Her background was on Wall Street until she decided to shift her focus towards supporting women in that space. And she's also a very active angel investor in the New York, Connecticut area. Truly loved that conversation with her.
Empowering Nigerian Women with Titilope Adidokun
00:06:15
Speaker
I also really enjoy talking to the one and only Titilope Adidokun, who is a content creator.
00:06:24
Speaker
also passionate social impact leader, entrepreneur, but also lawyer by trade. She is the founder of Sisterly HQ, and her mission is really to empower Nigerian women to share their stories and has built just an incredible community online. It's also a LinkedIn top boy, so I definitely recommend following her work. She's a true trails.
00:06:48
Speaker
She's a true trailblazer in this space and incredible what she has accomplished at such a young age. Definitely someone that you should be following in general.
Unspoken Financial Abuse with Stacy Francis
00:07:02
Speaker
On a more serious note, we had Stacy Francis on the show and talked about the unspoken truths of financial abuse.
00:07:11
Speaker
Um, it was very, very emotional. Um, if you listen to it or if you already did listen to it or a couple of instances where I didn't really know what to say because it was tough, but definitely a really important conversation to have because financial abuse is not always that obvious. And I think Stacy gave us some good examples.
00:07:42
Speaker
and anecdotes that hopefully help us all gain a better understanding for what to look out for because financial abuse can manifest itself in many different ways. And she also shared some incredible resources, so make sure to check that out.
PR and Venture Capital Support with Catherine Merritt
00:08:01
Speaker
I also really love my conversation with Catherine Merritt. She is in the marketing and public relations space, but also very passionate about bringing more women into DBC and angel investing ecosystem. So she has this really amazing business concept where she almost created this fusion of her PR firm and a spin-off venture capital arm, because that allows her to create this very virtual cycle where she's connecting
00:08:30
Speaker
her clients who are companies to investors and vice versa. And it's just some really, really good stuff that I thought was just very unique and innovative. Her company has won a bunch of awards. So obviously she's very successful. So definitely recommend following her work as well. And if you need any PR marketing support, check out her company.
Elevating Women in Retail with Joy Fan
00:08:56
Speaker
And I also love the conversation I had with the remarkable Joy Fan, who has become a dear, dear friend and mentor and sponsor of mine. We met in New York a while back. She is the founder of retail and is often referred to as the queen of experiential retail. And on this show, we talked a lot about elevating women in the direct to consumer.
00:09:24
Speaker
brand space. And Joy is just one of those people that simply radiates positive energy. I always like to tell everyone that every single person who meets her just wants to be constantly around her. So that's Joy for you, her name truly.
00:09:42
Speaker
tells you everything you need to know about her.
From Journalism to Pep Talker with Maggie Palmer
00:09:46
Speaker
And then last but not least, I couldn't have imagined to end season two with a better guest than the one and only Maggie Palmer, who is the founder of Pep Talker. It's an interesting story because it's a little bit different. She actually started out as a journalist, which is something I definitely can relate to a lot because
00:10:07
Speaker
I actually started out my career in journalism and an MA trained radio reporter and host, and wanted to become a sports reporter. Fun fact. So yeah, Maggie's story very much resonated with me. She's also a fellow immigrant. She's from Australia originally, but now calls New York City her home as well, just like myself.
00:10:32
Speaker
And yeah, learned a lot about her journey from journalism to founding her first business. Maggie's passion for supporting women in the workforce and promoting diversity is just so, so evident. She's worked with some of the biggest companies out there, including, you know, Salesforce, JP Morgan, you name it.
00:10:50
Speaker
And we addressed the gender pay gap, asking for a raise. Obviously it's this time of the year where we're wrapping up 2023 and you might be asked by your employers to submit a self-evaluation.
Normalizing Money Conversations for Women
00:11:06
Speaker
So this is definitely one of those times where you should be asking for a raise and or a promotion. So hopefully, um, this last episode of season two is going to help you advocate for yourself in a more meaningful and intentional way.
00:11:22
Speaker
And yeah, we'll be going on winter break and we'll be coming back in February, which I'm super excited about. I'm just about to wrap up recording interviews for season three, so stay tuned.
00:11:37
Speaker
We're going to have another incredible lineup of guests, as you can imagine. You're going to love them, I promise. And just to give a little bit of a sneak peek, we're actually going to have Stephanie Carton, who is the co-founder of Entrepreneista and a multiple seven figure business owner. We're also going to be enjoying the company of Claire Wasserman from Ladies Get Paid, one of my favorite brands to follow in the personal finance and investing space.
00:12:07
Speaker
And also my dear friend, Caitlin Kumi, who's the founder of Miss Empower and many, many more. So definitely should be excited because so many incredible women will be joining us very, very shortly and so much more inspiration. I think if there's something we've learned is that every single guest story
00:12:34
Speaker
so different, but we all share in common is this notion of community and women coming together in support of one another. That's really what this podcast is all about. And also recognizing that we cannot achieve true gender equality until we have achieved financial equality. At the end of the day,
00:13:02
Speaker
Money is power. So we women need money in order to be able to, to say no. I kept saying this throughout season one, if you've been around for quite some time. Now my, my, my favorite thing to always say about this is a wealthy woman can walk out of almost every room. She feels uncomfortable and create opportunities for other women along the way.
00:13:29
Speaker
So we really need to start by normalizing women having conversations about money, about wealth creation, because for women, money equals freedom.
00:13:43
Speaker
And that's the whole premise of this podcast. So thank you so much for yet another incredible season. Shout out to my dear editor, Sam, who's been supporting me over the past couple of months. It's been a huge help.
00:14:02
Speaker
And it's generally been so, so great to see this community grow, come together. I've had the opportunity to add some incredible founders and investors to my community and my broader network. So thank you so much for all your support throughout 2023. It truly, truly, truly means the world. This is what I live for. And I honestly have a really, really good feeling about 2024.
00:14:30
Speaker
So until then, all the best, happy holidays, and I will see you on the other side. Thank you, everyone.
00:14:41
