Introduction to the Still You Podcast

00:00:09
KateLynn Bundy
Hello and welcome to the Still You podcast. This is take two. We're having been technical difficulties. Cheers. If it's Friday for you, we are the podcast where we explore the wisdom of the Enneagram to help you reconnect with who you truly are, babe. but ah to become less of a hot mess in this dumpster fire of a world.
00:00:30
KateLynn Bundy
Can you relate? Yeah. I'm your host, Caitlin, and today's episode I am truly excited about. We're diving deep, deep, deep, deeper into what me what might be the most overlooked but transformative aspect of the Enneagram.
00:00:44
KateLynn Bundy
for today's episode, ah resources, you'll find that in the show notes, blah, blah, blah, boring, boring, where you will also find a link to book a one-on-one hour session

Exploring the Enneagram Triads

00:00:54
KateLynn Bundy
with me. yeah Where we can discover either what your type is, or we can dive deeper into what you're, if you already know your type, we can dive deeper into that, understand more about it, um all that stuff. So today we are talking about the triads.
00:01:12
KateLynn Bundy
We touched on it briefly in the last week's episode because it's, this is episode two. So thanks. You're a real one. You're an OG. Okay. You're going to be rewarded. I promise you. um But I just went over the basics in that episode. If you have no idea what the Enneagram is and want a quick overview, jump backwards by one. That's all you got to do.
00:01:32
KateLynn Bundy
Um, but it explores this core concept that is foundational to understanding not just what your exact type is, but how your whole being functions. Super nerdy, but I, I love it. i love it, man. So grab a cup of coffee or glass of wine like me, because it's way better.
00:01:54
KateLynn Bundy
let's dive in. Cheers. Cheers.
00:01:57
KateLynn Bundy
Ah, okay. So let's start with understanding what the triads are. It sounds like a cult, gang, no.
00:02:08
KateLynn Bundy
Religion, no. It's just, it's meant it's threes, right? That's why they use that term. So it's like the centers they also use. um So most people come to the Enneagram like, okay, tell me exactly what I am, what type I am, so I can finally understand why I cry at those Miss Sarah McLoughlin...
00:02:26
KateLynn Bundy
the commercials for the ASPCA like okay totally valid but knowing your time is just the tip of the iceberg it's just the beginning the Enneagram is less uh which Disney character am i or what flavor of potato chip am I And more like um your soul's GPS with some spotty Wi-Fi.
00:02:49
KateLynn Bundy
And the triads, they show you which direction your GPS defaults to when you're stressed out, you're lost, or hangry, okay? And these triads are extremely important to understand so you can really start to see where your chief imbalances lie. And so they they represent the three three main clusters of issues and defenses we have.
00:03:14
KateLynn Bundy
And knowing these, we can really create more self-awareness and see where we hold ourselves back in our just everyday lives and experiences, right?

The Body Triad: Eights, Nines, and Ones

00:03:23
KateLynn Bundy
Self-awareness, hashtag amen.
00:03:25
KateLynn Bundy
So let's break it down real quick. ah Quick summary for what we're about to talk about. So the body triad, the body center, the eights, nines, and ones. I'm in this group. Hate to break it to you.
00:03:39
KateLynn Bundy
and it but Okay, let's first talk. Let's just first say, let me get my cat. I am now on YouTube, so if you're watching on YouTube, you can see my kitty. Every time I sit in my desk here, he has to make an appearance. Can see him now?
00:03:56
KateLynn Bundy
Nope. Okay. He needs to sit on my lap. um So the biggest thing to understand with the Enneagram in general is that it's not black and white. Okay. There's so many nuances. There's just, there's just a lot. Okay.
00:04:10
KateLynn Bundy
So the body center eights, nines, and ones, these folks are saying, i will not, I will not be moved by your nonsense.
00:04:21
KateLynn Bundy
I daydream every day. i fall asleep to this fantasy at night of taking somebody off their high horse who deserves it. Yeah. Equilibrium. Justice.
00:04:32
KateLynn Bundy
i love it. i get off on it. oo but Too much. Whoops. But these types are concerned with maintaining resistance to reality and creating boundaries for the self that are based on physical tensions.
00:04:47
KateLynn Bundy
These types tend to have problems with aggression and repression and their defense mechanism is like the emotional version of the do do not disturb mode. um But underneath their ego defenses is a low key Hulk. All right, don't be scared.
00:05:01
KateLynn Bundy
They carry a great deal of rage, but don't be scared, okay? I was in Orlando this past week visiting my brother and watching his kids so they could vacation, but I had some time with my twin brother and we were talking about tickling and some of his kids aren't ticklish or whatever.
00:05:16
KateLynn Bundy
And he was joking around about I was like, dude, if you tickle me, if anyone tries to tickle me, you will unlock all the rage that I have pent up the past 34 years. And I will not be sorry for what happens. And he just bossed it out laughing because that it really does unlock that just like anger inside of everyone.
00:05:35
KateLynn Bundy
Oh, just thinking about it. I told him, like, no, dude, the Hulk Hulk's coming out if he starts to tickle me or tickle me for too long. Okay. Don't mess with me.
00:05:45
KateLynn Bundy
See? Oh my God. um Okay. Enough about me. So sorry. I'm trying to be unbiased. You know, you girl can't help it. But okay.
00:05:56
KateLynn Bundy
The type nines. We'll talk about why there's a significance to the the middle numbers. So the eights, nines, and ones. Nines are in the middle. And so are sixes and threes.
00:06:09
KateLynn Bundy
Yes. Sixes and threes are also in the middle. There's a significance to that. And we'll talk about it. Um, so the type nine, oh, sorry, I'm getting out of myself.
00:06:21
KateLynn Bundy
We just talked about the body center.

The Head Triad: Fives, Sixes, and Sevens

00:06:23
KateLynn Bundy
Okay. Those were the eight signs and ones. And now we're talking the quick blurb of the head triad or, um, the thinking triad, if you call it, or the head center.
00:06:35
KateLynn Bundy
Those are fives, sixes, and sevens. the overthinkers of the Enneagram. They carry um anxiety like it's a designer Hermes bag, like honestly, and they are three existential crises away from building a doomsday bunker.
00:06:52
KateLynn Bundy
Like they always have that anxiety with them hidden enough just to make it look casual. Like it's cool. No big deal. It's it's my little pal. But these guys are concerned with anxiety.
00:07:04
KateLynn Bundy
They experience a lack of support and guidance. And they engage in behaviors that they believe will enhance their safety and security. And underneath their ego defenses, they carry, typically carry, a great deal of fear.
00:07:18
KateLynn Bundy
Again, we'll talk about that. Next and last center is the heart or feeling center triad. Twos, threes, and fours. Those guys are definitely the ones who are in their little feelings. They're the empaths of the Enneagram.
00:07:34
KateLynn Bundy
And they're the the Pixar movie criers. And they overanalyze text messages like it's a government conspiracy. And they're really concerned with self-image.
00:07:45
KateLynn Bundy
And we'll bring it down. Let's not get ahead of ourselves. ah The So being concerned with their self-image, there's an attachment to the false or an assumed sense or assumed self of personality. They believe that the stories about themselves and their assumed like qualities that they make up are their actual identity.
00:08:08
KateLynn Bundy
And underneath their ego defenses, these types carry a great deal of shame. Okay. but make it designer fashion, okay? Okay, can't be looking like a hobo out here.
00:08:20
KateLynn Bundy
Again, no matter our type, we all experience and contain all the components of these three triads because they all interact with each other, okay, on a biological level, like literally.
00:08:32
KateLynn Bundy
So think about like buying a house that can be an emotional or logical purpose. Someone in the feeling triad will be led by their heart, but that doesn't mean they're not using their brain or doing research of finding like the best deal or whatever.
00:08:48
KateLynn Bundy
Or just because you aren't in the head or thinking triad doesn't mean you're stupid. Okay? There can be geniuses who are a type 2 or ah prodigy who's a type 1.
00:09:00
KateLynn Bundy
Okay? Let's get that clear. um It's about where your ego pitched a tent and said, yeah, ah this is home. Okay? Okay? I hope that's clear.
00:09:11
KateLynn Bundy
Let's take a sip. um All right. and Let's get into the body center. Let's talk more in depth on that. There's gut intelligence of the eights, nines, and ones, the instinctive center.
00:09:28
KateLynn Bundy
This is about action. presence and boundaries. We're moving forward. um It's your sense of I am. it connects to your power, your life force, your ability to say yes or no.
00:09:42
KateLynn Bundy
They are the bouncers at this club called reality. Yeah, babe. So as we you talked about, the core emotion of this ride is anger, but no big deal. Don't worry about it.
00:09:54
KateLynn Bundy
Don't be scared. That's what mean. Don't be scared. Okay. All right. Type eight. Cause we got to start with myself. Sorry. That's just how the, that's how I wrote It's how I did the outline. but Don't, don't, don't cancel me.
00:10:07
KateLynn Bundy
Um, type eight, uh, expresses their anger outwardly like it's their motherfucking job. asserting themselves to protect their vulnerability like it's honestly like it's the last cookie in the cookie jar. And I've literally been in that exact situation.
00:10:26
KateLynn Bundy
Don't mess with me. All right. All right. I'm calming down. I'm calming down. But type eights will be like, hey, you want to, so you want to get close to me? You want to get to know me? They'll be like, cool. um Sign this NDA, pass this background check, and good luck climbing that emotional wall I built in 1999. Bye. Bye.
00:10:45
KateLynn Bundy
They want to be strong, independent, and in control. They are the rugged individualists of the Enneagram. um And A's are always putting out their energy and asserting dominance in a room or a situation or trying to control it without thinking of others. Think of those emotional bulldozers of people like my daddy.
00:11:08
KateLynn Bundy
But they do that to avoid being hurt or getting having someone or something else get too close. They'll do whatever it takes to not let anyone or anything else have that upper hand.
00:11:22
KateLynn Bundy
Of course, and this goes to say with every type, the more wounded and eight is from childhood, the higher these walls are and the thicker the boundaries are, okay, which makes it increasingly harder for everyone or anyone to have a close intimate relationship with them, right? That's pretty freaking obvious.
00:11:41
KateLynn Bundy
So, So type nines, this is where I got ahead of myself. Type nines are in the middle, okay, of the eights and ones. There's a meaning there. So let's talk about it.
00:11:51
KateLynn Bundy
So nines are in that anger triad, but they will deny their anger and seek peace at all costs. They'll deny it not even knowing it's there. They're so oblivious to their true nature.
00:12:05
KateLynn Bundy
um
00:12:08
KateLynn Bundy
They are the wallflowers of the Enneagram, okay? There's a couple stereotypes here that are kind of fun. But type nines are like, if I ignore this problem long enough, maybe it'll vanish into a puff of essential oils.
00:12:21
KateLynn Bundy
And boy, can I relate. I really lean onto the type nine a lot for my wing, which we'll talk about. Sorry, there's so much to this. But I want to break it down in a hopefully, like,
00:12:32
KateLynn Bundy
digestible way. Yeah, so they'll do that and that gets them in trouble. It's got me in trouble. But they merge with others and dole their own priorities and they avoid conflict like someone with celiacs avoids gluten.
00:12:48
KateLynn Bundy
Like that's their thing. The nines, because they're in the middle, have a particularly tough time because they both internalize and then externalize their ego boundaries.
00:13:01
KateLynn Bundy
okay For example, on the inside, they don't want their thoughts or feelings to disturb that inner peace, that equilibrium that they've created. Same as those type ones, which we'll talk about.
00:13:13
KateLynn Bundy
um They put up that wall suppressing powerful and important emotions because it disturbs their peace. But like the type eights, they hold up an external wall or boundary to not be hurt or affected by the world around them.
00:13:29
KateLynn Bundy
They are the human version of the weighted blanket with passive aggressive undertones. You heard it here folks first, folks. All right. Type ones, my guys, my guys. I love my ones.
00:13:43
KateLynn Bundy
They internalize our anger. They know it's there, though. um They turn turning it into resentment into or a yeah harsh inner critic. They like rechannel it into that.
00:13:55
KateLynn Bundy
That would honestly give that inner critic of theirs would give Gordon Ramsay a run for his money. He would honestly be so proud of you. That's toxic. No, they try to perfect themselves um and others. They're, they're also called the perfectionists of the Enneagram.
00:14:12
KateLynn Bundy
um And they're, so they're trying to be morally pure while also judging their own impure thoughts. And they they'll think to themselves, like, why did I laugh at that? I'm going to hell. Like, let's calm down. Okay.
00:14:24
KateLynn Bundy
Ones also do hold a boundary to the outside world, but they're so much more concerned about their inner world and keeping it all together and maintaining those inner boundaries.
00:14:35
KateLynn Bundy
They don't want to have these thoughts or impulses like every single person in the world does. um And they have a great deal of suppression because of their perceived things that are bad or immoral, at least in their opinions.
00:14:49
KateLynn Bundy
And therefore, they also expect the world around them to adhere to this moral code that they deem as bad because they sent they sent it. They stay ah set it up in their brains like that's what they believe. And there's a lot of ones in the world with a lot of different opinions about what is right and wrong.
00:15:06
KateLynn Bundy
We need you, though. We need you, but we need you to align together. It ah reminds me of Angela in The Office where that one line she says, she's like, well, some of us have to be our own grandmothers.
00:15:19
KateLynn Bundy
Like, typical. That's a great example of a type one. who Just a ah somebody who has to keep themselves in check, even if it's like their ego or like a fake person. Yeah.
00:15:31
KateLynn Bundy
um So when this body center is out of balance, you might feel like you're either a control freak or a marshmallow or worse, a marshmallow who's trying to control everything. Like that's impossible. Like you're a marshmallow.
00:15:44
KateLynn Bundy
You can't. um But we all set what they call those ego boundaries that we've been talking on. I'm not this, I am that. And every type does it and has them. But for our eights, nines, and ones, they're trying to use their will to affect the world around them so they aren't affected by it.
00:16:05
KateLynn Bundy
they can They control the world around them so they won't be influenced by it, which means vulnerability. Yep, we all deal

The Heart Triad: Twos, Threes, and Fours

00:16:12
KateLynn Bundy
with it. And this is that triad's reason why.
00:16:16
KateLynn Bundy
um All three resist being influenced by reality in different ways. But in a general sense, they build that wall between themselves and the world become more more impenetrable.
00:16:29
KateLynn Bundy
and like more and more impacted but impenetrable um and have you ever felt that well from someone like it's just like bro i'm talking to a freaking brick wall can you like be human for a second Yeah.
00:16:42
KateLynn Bundy
The eight signs and ones have these walls for various reasons, ah depending on their life experiences, ah how they were raised, religion, culture. um But it gives them a false sense of safety, which at a certain time in their life probably was helpful and had them made them survive or whatever.
00:17:01
KateLynn Bundy
But it typically, as you get older, they get It gets outdated, right? But all in all, the gut triad deals with aggression. Eights express it, nines deny it, and ones repress it.
00:17:13
KateLynn Bundy
This aggression shows itself in many forms for each type, not just putting holes through walls or having screaming matches with people. Although if you're an extremely unhealthy eight or even one, yeah, you're you're going to get that, okay?
00:17:28
KateLynn Bundy
That's where it's not black and white. levels of health make a difference. Okay. So you can't just like find out somebody is a type eight and be like, e red flag. I'm not going to dare like date you or marry you.
00:17:41
KateLynn Bundy
Don't be so black and white. Okay. It can be directed at their spiritual work, their work work or toward themselves or something else. It's not just a stereotype. Okay.
00:17:53
KateLynn Bundy
but you never know. Okay. So for you body types, here is a little reflection prompt, something a little, little something to chew on. Okay. When something upsets you, do you feel it first in your body?
00:18:07
KateLynn Bundy
you clench your jaw, hold your pen a little too tight or tighten your chest? Or does your tummy turn? do you trust your instincts or do you second guess yourself? Think about that.
00:18:19
KateLynn Bundy
Okay, cheers to our heart center or our um gut centers. Let's take a sip. Okay, now onto the heart center, our the emotional intelligence, are our little feelers, twos, threes, and fours.
00:18:37
KateLynn Bundy
So this is our home to emotion, empathy, image, and our sense of worth. These are our feelers. They write the three-paragraph Instagram catch caption for their cat's birthday, although I'm guilty of that.
00:18:51
KateLynn Bundy
Okay. This centers dominance, like I said, in the two, threes, and fours. And these guys are really concerned with personal image. It's not as vain as it sounds, but it can be, ah again, depending on the level of health.
00:19:05
KateLynn Bundy
um These types create a, you know, quote unquote, false identity, and they just identify with it. and it And they present it to others in hopes that they will be loved, accepted, attract other people, or get some sort of sense of value So these types struggle with not being valued for who they were as children.
00:19:25
KateLynn Bundy
Womp womp. That's, we love you. We love you for who you are. Okay. That's the biggest theme for you guys. You're you're lovely just the way you are. Who sang that song?
00:19:38
KateLynn Bundy
Okay, moving on. The core emotional struggle here is shame. The fear that we're not lovable as we are, so we have to earn our value. The big themes here are, who am I?
00:19:52
KateLynn Bundy
And I hate you for not loving you or for loving me the way I want to be loved. Have you heard that or thought that before? Okay. When their perceived identity is not validated, they respond with hostility. Y'all can get mean too. Okay.
00:20:09
KateLynn Bundy
But which ah this also helps them protect against those possible deeper feelings of shame and humiliation. So let's dive into more of that.
00:20:19
KateLynn Bundy
Type twos. I love you. First of all, um So type twos try to earn love by being needed. you are You're the emotional FedEx.
00:20:32
KateLynn Bundy
They feel valuable when they're giving giving to others. That's where they find their value. They want to be wanted. They'll show up with soup, compliments, a homemade playlist, but secretly want to be told.
00:20:46
KateLynn Bundy
You're the best person I've ever met my life. Twos don't have needs until they do. And then suddenly they're crying because no one offered them a glass of water in 2009 after they did it for everyone else.
00:20:59
KateLynn Bundy
They give and give their energy and attention to achieve this. And the positive reactions they get from people because of this affirms that sense of identity and builds up your their self-esteem.
00:21:10
KateLynn Bundy
Okay. But because they are so focused on others and giving so much of themselves away, they really have trouble knowing their own feelings and what they're saying and and with what they're saying and attending to their own actual needs. And ironically, they often feel unappreciated but repress or conceal those feelings. walter
00:21:34
KateLynn Bundy
He gets on and off my lap like it's a job. You're not getting paid for this, pal. Okay. Can you see his fluffy tail? So cute. Okay.
00:21:45
KateLynn Bundy
Let's do a little mirror check. Okay. Type threes. Okay. You're in the middle one. we're going to talk about that. ah Type threes, they seek admiration and success.
00:21:56
KateLynn Bundy
They are definitely the achievers of the Enneagram. They are way too busy becoming Beyonce. Okay. Yep. They believe they must achieve to be lovable.
00:22:07
KateLynn Bundy
They turn goals into personality traits and feelings into PowerPoints. Okay. Vulnerability? Sure. Just let me color code it and rehearse what I'm going to say first. Okay.
00:22:20
KateLynn Bundy
Again, the three is in the middle of two and four. So their self image is presented to others and to themselves. So to others outside, to themselves inside. Okay. Like twos, they need positive feedback and affirmation.
00:22:34
KateLynn Bundy
and like fours, which we'll go to next, they create an internal picture of themselves that they must sustain. They seek value through accomplishments. They have these ideas of what a valuable person is and what they're like, and then try to become that person.
00:22:51
KateLynn Bundy
Walter. ah The best sales guy on the team is like this. Or where's that? I will too. says the three they will do whatever it takes okay um we'll turn you a type three So type fours, moving on So type fours long to be special or unique. They're the individualists of the Enneagram.
00:23:14
KateLynn Bundy
um there're So wanting to be special or unique, but it's not like it it's my birthday party kind of way. It's more like ah tragically poetic main character energy, which Fours don't just feel sad. They feel existentially hollow on a rainy Tuesday because the grocery store stopped carrying their brand of almond milk.
00:23:40
KateLynn Bundy
We've all had situations like that. It's a little relatable, but they really, that's their identity. They feel shame for being ordinary or emotionally misunderstood.
00:23:51
KateLynn Bundy
They're the opposite of the two. Their energy and attention goes inward to maintain a self-image based on feelings and fantasies. And they thrive on being different. They love that.
00:24:02
KateLynn Bundy
they Too much. Yeah. Which in turn is, but ah it in turn, estranges themselves from other people. So fours tend to sustain a certain mood rather than let or allow their real feelings to be presented.
00:24:17
KateLynn Bundy
So really unhealthy fours see themselves as some sort of victim. There's no hope for them because of X, Y, Z. That's what they think. which is a sneaky way for them to get a certain type of validation for the identity that they created about themselves. Like that just living in that world, that sounds awful. I'm sorry. It sounds sad.
00:24:40
KateLynn Bundy
I can do my best to not be judgmental, but we're all here to grow. And so it'll be hard to hear some stuff about our types or about ourselves that you may not want to face or whatever, that's what we're here for. Okay.
00:24:54
KateLynn Bundy
You know, I got hair all over me. Okay. So overuse of this center can lead to emotional ennechment, performative behavior, or identity confusion.
00:25:08
KateLynn Bundy
Underuse might look like being numb or disconnected from your own emotional truth, And all these types lack a proper sense of self love of self.
00:25:19
KateLynn Bundy
Okay. These types do what they can to escape the shame they carry with them. Twos become ultra good and a service to others and threes become perfect in their performances and achievements and And fours, avoid their shame by dramatizing their losses and hurts by being a, quote, victim. Okay?
00:25:40
KateLynn Bundy
So for you heart, feeler, emotional centers, emotional centers, that's that's not right. but You know what I mean. Something to think on, to reflect Whose approval are you chasing?
00:25:51
KateLynn Bundy
How do you try to prove that you are enough? How does that relate to you in your life? Okay? know Now to the head center, which means sip.
00:26:05
KateLynn Bundy
Okay, let's pause. I got to put Walter in kitty jail. Okay, kitty jail. It's just my bedroom. Relax. Jasmine's in there sleeping. She's fine. He'll be fine.
00:26:16
KateLynn Bundy
All right, let's talk about our head center, our mental intelligence, five, six, and seven. This is the thinking realm. They live in their heads like it's a studio apartment. They refuse to leave. Wouldn't they wouldn't you love that?
00:26:34
KateLynn Bundy
They are the domain of thought, planning, and fear. So five, sixes, and sevens are in this category. This center is all about security. Its core emotional challenge is fear, which can show up as anxiety, uncertainty, uncertainty,
00:26:52
KateLynn Bundy
uncertainty or restlessness or even insecurity. Their goal is to maintain a personal identity. They're concerned with um resisting aspects of the present because of their self-image has been built up from memories of the past and how they were raised and their interpretations of those memories.
00:27:12
KateLynn Bundy
they are very much self-preservationists and concerned about the future on how they will survive, how they'll provide, and what's going to happen to me and all that stuff. So telling these types to have a quiet mind will put them into and into a tailspin because that's exactly what they want to avoid in order to feel, and no sorry, in order to avoid deeper, more vulnerable feelings and emotions like it's the plague.
00:27:35
KateLynn Bundy
Okay? These types cannot get their minds to simmer down, which we all can relate to. But again, it's not just black and white, but this is their primary thing. Okay?
00:27:47
KateLynn Bundy
Although despite the type, no one can have a quiet a truly perfectly quiet mind. It's just not natural. Okay? But this triad particularly struggles with it.

KateLynn Bundy
A, quote, quiet mind gives people ah natural confidence and peace to operate successfully in the world, to feel supported. It's that inner knowing or inner guidance, right?
00:28:13
KateLynn Bundy
So when these qualities are blocked, we naturally feel fear. And the head and thinking triad, their response to that fear is what distinguishes them into It distinguishes them as their own category. Does that make sense?
00:28:30
KateLynn Bundy
That's a little heady. Try lighten this up to make it easier to, so like grasp. But type five, love you. love you. I could talk. I know I said this. I could talk to y'all all day.
00:28:42
KateLynn Bundy
um But type fives, they hoard information like a squirrel ah hoards acorns, except instead of nuts, it's podcasts, it's obscure Reddit threads, it's books, and why frogs can't swallow with their eyes open.
00:28:57
KateLynn Bundy
you won't They won't come to your party unless they know the exits, the Wi-Fi password, and that there will be absolutely no small talk. That's one way to get them out.
00:29:08
KateLynn Bundy
The five, ah they retreat into the mind, collecting knowledge to feel safe. They detach ah to avoid over being overwhelmed.
00:29:19
KateLynn Bundy
um And we'll discover in future episodes that the stress of five goes to seven. So they detach by doing things, not necessarily popping around from party to party we're skydiving, but projects, diving deeper into their work or their hobby that they're trying to master.
00:29:35
KateLynn Bundy
They reduce their personal needs to gain that sense of security. They're big. I feel like type fives are, they love a good camping trip. They love hiking the Appalachian trail for five months. Like that's their thing.
00:29:49
KateLynn Bundy
yeah, So to them, the only safe place to them in the world is in their minds. They think of, like, think of the stereotypical, like, mad scientist. That's what we get here.
00:30:03
KateLynn Bundy
They stockpile information, energy, facts, resources before they are ready to rejoin the world, in a sense. And their insecurities lie when they feel they don't have enough to offer or bring to the table.
00:30:17
KateLynn Bundy
ah They won't play that game or do this activity simply because they don't know how and do not have it mastered yet. Like, it's okay. It takes a lot for them to get out of that way of thinking and fail and failing because everyone fails, like, but they have to avoid it.
00:30:35
KateLynn Bundy
And they want what they have in their minds to be of value to the world. And often it feels just never good enough. Hence why a type five in most cases highly identifies with their chosen work or their hobby.
00:30:50
KateLynn Bundy
And that's all they seem to be able to talk about. And it feels awkward or uncomfortable talking about anything else to anyone else. Hence why they are the recluses to avoid being in situations where they don't know a particular subject or just dumbass small talk.
00:31:04
KateLynn Bundy
I get it. Small talk sucks. um Unless I'm tipsy. I can talk. I can talk. I can talk. Hence why have a podcast. All right. Type six is always scanning for potential threat, bad vibes, suspicious emails.
00:31:21
KateLynn Bundy
That one friend who double tapped your ex's selfie. Who are they? They live in a world where what if deserves a 12 slide internal PowerPoint presentation.
00:31:33
KateLynn Bundy
That's a lot. ah What if the building collapses? ah What if my boss is secretly mad at me? What if I accidentally joined a Colton? Didn't notice. Welcome home, babe. Um, essentially what they're trying to do is anticipate danger. They look for authority, loyalty, and certainty.
00:31:51
KateLynn Bundy
They're too, they too are, uh, the central number in this triad, uh, and they resist their inner and outer world while the other two are just one or the other, right?
00:32:03
KateLynn Bundy
They feel anxious on the inside and therefore launch into external action of what could possibly happen or go wrong, right? That cycle has them bouncing around like a ping pong ball, gone rogue.
00:32:18
KateLynn Bundy
They are anxious about the future and mistakes they make and then retreat into the mind. But then they take another action to combat what they think will happen. Right? Do you see that weird cycle? They get scared by their feelings, retreat, act, get scared, retreat, act, etc.
00:32:34
KateLynn Bundy
That's exhausting. um So type sevens are fun babes. ah They cope by staying as busy and as distracted as possible.
00:32:45
KateLynn Bundy
So like if I slow down, i might feel sadness. So instead, I'll plan a trip, start new hobby, open a bakery, join a pickleball league. ah take up aerial yoga and make eight reservations at two different million restaurants on the same night. like Whatever it is to keep them busy.
00:33:03
KateLynn Bundy
Sevens have five unfinished books in their nightstand and zero unread feelings in their inbox because they don't open those emails. Yeah. okay So they avoid their fear by chasing stimulation.
00:33:16
KateLynn Bundy
They stay busy, upbeat to escape discomfort. there're They can often be what do they call the toxic positivity ones of the Enneagram. um And they appear to be afraid of nothing, but it's quite the contrary.
00:33:31
KateLynn Bundy
They're deeply afraid of their inner world. Again, like we talked about last week, Robin Williams was a type seven and it's just so tragic. um They fear the trap of emotional pain, sadness, grief, anxiety.
00:33:46
KateLynn Bundy
So they escape. but Wouldn't we all? well We all escape for different reasons and all that stuff. um But they'll always overbook their schedules so they won't have that downtime and are often night owls and probably have issues with sleep.
00:34:01
KateLynn Bundy
Am I right about that? Like, let me know. I'm curious. So when this triad is overused, the head center can leave you trapped in analysis, worry, or mental loops.
00:34:13
KateLynn Bundy
Underuse means ignoring risks or lacking oversight. Nope, lacking foresight. All right, something for you guys ah think about.
00:34:24
KateLynn Bundy
ah Do you tend to live in your head? How often do you try to, quote, figure things out instead of feeling or just acting. Okay. Something to think about.

Conclusion and Future Insights

00:34:37
KateLynn Bundy
Okay. So final thoughts, um recap, in a way your inner child and therapist can both enjoy. Recap. The thinking triad. If you've got anxiety and cannot stop spiraling like a fidget spinner on espresso, that's the shadow, the unhealthy side. But when you're healthy, they're wise, so grounded, and finally know how to real relax without having to research it first.
00:35:04
KateLynn Bundy
Yeah. For you feeling triad folks, if you're emotionally manipulative, moody, or secretly plotting a TED talk based off your last breakup, yep, that's your shadow or your unhealthy side.
