Jarrod Dyke: Hey everybody, welcome back. It is the Fantasy Rugby Yanks. My name is Jared Dyke. Alright, it's Fantasy Corner time.
Grumpy Old Prop: I'm Ben Glauser.
Jarrod Dyke: First Fantasy Corner of the year, my friends. Welcome in, welcome in. um So, we have Champion Yanks League once again this year. If you um are not familiar with it, it a competition across the competition. So, we include...
Jarrod Dyke: Prem, we include Six Nations, we include Champions Cup and Super Rugby, and we tally points overall from those from the results of those leagues in fantasy. And we have a couple of formats that we're going to run in Prem this year. And if more come to light for other competitions, of course, we'll do that as well.
Grumpy Old Prop: Right.
Jarrod Dyke: um but we And we've kind of we kind of went a little kamikaze this year with it. um ah The banter in the chat has been amazing, number one, because it's been beefed up.
Grumpy Old Prop: it It quite has. It's been great.
Jarrod Dyke: our Our chat is much larger, and therefore it's obviously got more people to shit on each other. um So, oh yeah, it's great.
Grumpy Old Prop: Rivalries are forming already. It's great.
Jarrod Dyke: So the the way this one will work this season is we're going to rank everyone 1 to 16. There's 16 people in our in our group here. And whoever's in the top eight, they're going to be division one next year.
Jarrod Dyke: Whoever's in the bottom eight, they're going to be division two next year.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: And if you're, if this shit sounds like fun, we'll certainly consider opening up a third division, but we're going to need at least six a year to freaking make that happen.
Grumpy Old Prop: yeah
Jarrod Dyke: So, um but just, you know, we would love that. We would love to have that third division. That's like a dream for me to get to that point. But, you know, neither here nor there. um But anyway, and and I still need to drop the points in our group. So guys, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry. sorry Sorry.
Jarrod Dyke: Oh, by the way, what the fuck am I doing with this? This should not be closed. it should be opened. There we go.
Grumpy Old Prop: what What are you doing?
Jarrod Dyke: Good Lord, what's wrong with me
Grumpy Old Prop: Are you rookie? You new?
Jarrod Dyke: me? Super rookie. right. With that, um let's look at our Champions League recap. Let's go to draft first.
Jarrod Dyke: um We know we got some um so scores still to to update, so this is all waiting on a few things to come through here um looks like they're starting to update some of them now because there's no way i beat matt bartlett by that much um so it looks like there's doing some updates right now last i saw i looked like in um so we had to split um our champions league into two leagues for draft because it's better to do it do this format with eight so certainly not with 16 would have been a shit show um
Grumpy Old Prop: yeah
Grumpy Old Prop: Right.
Jarrod Dyke: say to so say the least. 16 in like NFL is a lot. 16 here would have been just silly.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah, it's not doable.
Jarrod Dyke: Last I saw, matt was beating me, Barty. um I'm pretty sure Duncan was winning. I think Matt Kay was winning over over Justin.
Jarrod Dyke: And then I think George had the better of Alex last I saw.
Grumpy Old Prop: Oh, mine's getting... This is getting all fucked up.
Jarrod Dyke: So yeah they yeah, they're getting some...
Grumpy Old Prop: Oh, well.
Jarrod Dyke: Looks like they're putting some updated scores going through here. So
Grumpy Old Prop: I have 225 suddenly. not have 225. Yeah. Okay, cool. There Had to reload.
Jarrod Dyke: No, and i I all of a sudden had like 160. I was like, no, that's not possible. I know I did. I know I did. Okay, but I don't think I did that well.
Grumpy Old Prop: yeah
Jarrod Dyke: Ah, there we go. I got, I got some score better scored.
Grumpy Old Prop: okay cool
Jarrod Dyke: Okay, here we go.
Grumpy Old Prop: every there we go
Jarrod Dyke: They reset.
Grumpy Old Prop: had to reload
Jarrod Dyke: Um, so yes, Matt currently is beating me by six. Uh, Barty, um, Duncan is currently beating Luke by not eight or so. Um, Justin, Justin, wake up, buddy. Um,
Jarrod Dyke: got He got pants by Matt Kay, no matter how you slice it, I'm pretty sure. And then, yeah, Alex is currently beating George by 24. twenty four I'm not sure the the adjustments are going to do George any favors, but um I'd say Luke and myself are can be hopeful at the very least in that league.
Grumpy Old Prop: Hmm.
Jarrod Dyke: um How does the Navas feel?
Grumpy Old Prop: What the fuck just happened? I'm sorry. I'm trying to.
Jarrod Dyke: You can do it.
Grumpy Old Prop: and
Jarrod Dyke: I believe in you.
Grumpy Old Prop: you know There we go. All right. oh So the Navy looks like so. ah Column is beating myself by about 13.
Grumpy Old Prop: I blame Max Malins, who if he had even ah very average 11 points instead of negative two and a half or so, I'd be i'd be winning. um So thank you, minimum balance.
Jarrod Dyke: ouch
Grumpy Old Prop: But either way, we'll see how the there' been a rejigger goes. Paul um is crushing Rob, um who ah missed putting his lineup together and noted it in the chat.
Grumpy Old Prop: Like, oh I fucking forgot.
Jarrod Dyke: Oh, that's right.
Grumpy Old Prop: um But that's, you know, Paul 159. Rob, um yeah, Elliott Daly didn't do you much help. Um, but then, you know, neither did, neither did Conchick.
Jarrod Dyke: 159 is a respectable score, though.
Grumpy Old Prop: He got 30, he has 39 though. Um, anyway, ah Mark is losing to Matt and ah which Matt is this? This is Matt.
Jarrod Dyke: I have Bardi and Kay, so that's got to be the other one.
Grumpy Old Prop: Uh, okay.
Jarrod Dyke: t
Grumpy Old Prop: T Matt T. Um, so Matt T is winning one 23 to one 11 then Um, with the one sixty nine to ninety six for franco um
Jarrod Dyke: Oh, Franco.
Grumpy Old Prop: Stu so Stu had the the Tyrone Green Adam Radwin Emmanuel Faye will be so Tom Jordan Tom which field shit that was a that right there and everything else was kind of everything else is mediocre I mean Jared Evans will Porter Ben Curry like Fitz Harden got 12 that was that was his only other reasonably high score but geez when you're back five does all that work you're good
Jarrod Dyke: In shambles, dude.
Jarrod Dyke: Ooh. Ooh.
Jarrod Dyke: That's a good... That's a lot right there. Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: Decent one. Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: Yep. So the way it looks in Subaru currently, ah everyone participating in Subaru right now will score because I, because I do remember at least that much about the the points that are going into this one.
Jarrod Dyke: I'm pretty sure 15 16 do not score
Grumpy Old Prop: So the bottom two get zero. Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: So, yeah. So that's where it's at right there. So everybody can just fight for more points instead of, you know, one, which you don't want.
Grumpy Old Prop: Right.
Jarrod Dyke: But it looks like Super Brew is doing some up updates right now. So we don't have ranks or anything on that one. So i will we we will keep that keep everyone abreast on that one.
Grumpy Old Prop: Press. Press.
Jarrod Dyke: With that one, ah we have start sets. The first start sets.
Grumpy Old Prop: The first start sits of the year. Excellent.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: As much as we can do with a week before we get the lineups.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, do you know, do what we can. um i'm your ah Mine are all based on what I saw last week and you know what I think they'll be out there.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: So I'm leading us off with a Friday and night game with Bath. So the guys that I'm just absolutely starting in both formats, Dunn, Redpath, Lawrence, Arendelle, Coca, and DeGlamville, if he's still out there at fullback.
Jarrod Dyke: um Guys that I would look towards draft only would be like, Sella, the the the prop there.
Grumpy Old Prop: you
Jarrod Dyke: Bayless, Pepper, Reed, or whoever's in the back row, honestly. um
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: And then and Spencer, if he's still doing the kicking especially, because you don't need to designate a kicker in in draft.
Grumpy Old Prop: Right. Right.
Jarrod Dyke: So you get those points automatically, which is nice. And then the guys I would just probably avoid for now would be Yules, Rue, and Ajomo. Anyway, in the engine room, honestly, for Beth. I'm not sure they're that good.
Grumpy Old Prop: Hmm.
Jarrod Dyke: um for the sharks uh gibaloo yep the whole front row i'd i' would start them in either format for it is for it as well uh mossy white yes and anybody in the back three that's not name of flarity so reed carpenter and roebuck um i would look towards the likes of here on andrews as basically their only viable second row for either format but especially draft um
Grumpy Old Prop: Mm-hmm.
Grumpy Old Prop: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
Grumpy Old Prop: Oh, yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: Vermeulen's draft-worthy. Curry, Dugdale, probably same. ah Bobby Dupes is like the last center I would want. but The last startable center on draft, I would say. Let's put it that way.
Jarrod Dyke: And then Gus Ward, you can just open up that trash can and just drop him in there fantasy-wise because he's nearly useless.
Grumpy Old Prop: pop
Jarrod Dyke: Nearly.
Grumpy Old Prop: right. Off to Sandy Park hosting um the Red Bulls.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yikes. um
Grumpy Old Prop: Fortunately, there's not much from a fantasy perspective. Like you really just want to stay away from Exeter forwards. They don't they don't really score in all that well. um Yeah, they'll get some pushover tries, but it's never the one you played.
Grumpy Old Prop: um
Jarrod Dyke: but Right.
Grumpy Old Prop: Better ones are are just out there. um But then you really get to like who's contributing for them. and And as we said in the other pod, like for me, it's just their back three and no one else. So um really, that's where i'd be focused for this one.
Grumpy Old Prop: I would also throw um a start um Henry Slade's way because yeah, he'll get some kicking points. He'll get quite a bit of kicking points in this match. um In the back there, even though, you know, Hodge will likely be suspended.
Grumpy Old Prop: um But Wyatt is is ah probably ah a capable replacement as far as certainly against Newcastle.
Jarrod Dyke: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
Grumpy Old Prop: um for For Newcastle, ah I do like Brett Kahn. And same thing, I don't really like their pack, although Exeter augment a pack because they just kind of run straight into tackles. So um You get a lot more points that way from from packs that play against Exeter.
Grumpy Old Prop: um But I'd really be looking at that that Brett Connan, who should also have opportunity to kick if um Newcastle are smart and run at Henry Slade.
Grumpy Old Prop: And then um Alex Hurl has been a wonder for me. I was sneaky happy when I got him in both of our leagues. um He's a center in in draft who plays outside back. And I think even in Superbrook, he's mighty cheap and and ah ah potentially a good option.
Jarrod Dyke: I believe he is too, yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: um So someone to look for there.
Jarrod Dyke: I do believe that as well.
Grumpy Old Prop: But other than that, not much to talk about from a fantasy perspective in this game.
Jarrod Dyke: um
Grumpy Old Prop: So, yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: Right. Yeah, We're heading over to Welford Road. Lester and Quinn's. For the Tigers, I would look toward for guys that I would start in both formats.
Jarrod Dyke: Blumeyer, Nicky Smith, Van Portfleet, Hassell Collins, Rodwin, Freddie.
Grumpy Old Prop: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
Jarrod Dyke: Guys I'm looking at draft mostly. Hayes, maybe Cam Henderson, Liebenberg if he's healthy. um Elione, yep. Bailey, definitely.
Jarrod Dyke: Woodward, but only if he's got like a a good pair to go in there. So that would be either Parise or Kata. Not Juan. Juan didn't help him at all, I don't think. and um as well yeah and either of those guys are also playable in draft especially and then um i am just over ollie cracknell said him um quins um yeah look towards finn baxter again he's still worth it um cutting himself borrowing a yellow card again i think he'll be fine um and then ah back three again for them early david nick david tyron green uh
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: yeah
Jarrod Dyke: draft worthy guys for sure and some of them going to be on the this this game will tell me how draft where how super brew worthy all three of these guys are evans kenningham and and don brant for now i just gonna play it safe and go draft only um will porter may be in draft but that's it um evan same thing beard same thing and then i have no interest in props that aren't finn baxter any of the locks
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: or, um and really the the other centers. Maybe Waghorn if he's back, but I don't think he's healthy, so I would skip that as well.
Grumpy Old Prop: Right off the stone X Saracens Bristol, which. even with the injuries to Bristol could be just a slugfest um of points, potentially. um For Saris, really looking at whoever's their starting hooker, go for it.
Grumpy Old Prop: Maybe even their backup, depending on um how hard up you are in in a draft format. um Their locks really... It's Ezeque and Morrow and...
Grumpy Old Prop: um McFarlane or nobody like don't don't get like don't get caught up in the tizz um in a tizzy um and then the the back row is just deadly and um obviously Tom Willis is is like driving the driving force behind that he's easily captable any week at captainable any week and this week he's notwithstanding and then
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: um not so much out and you know once you get out wide like malin's disappointed but he's gonna come good um shagan will be awesome and obviously just any of those wings so um because they'll just throw guys out there and um it'll work well for you like i where was it um did i start no i only started him in the uh um oh shit who was the baby wing who started um no who started the guy one who started
Jarrod Dyke: Corey.
Jarrod Dyke: Oh, Jackson.
Grumpy Old Prop: Jackson, there we go. Thank you. um I started him in draft and it worked out really well. So um he's a center there.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, I got him one league, too.
Grumpy Old Prop: So um so look out for that.
Grumpy Old Prop: um For Bristol, you still know Fitz Harding's going to score well. Joe Badley should do well. O'Grey or Thacker, whoever's playing it up there, fine. Stay away from the props outside of Genge, who won't be playing this week.
Grumpy Old Prop: um you know Dunn might be okay, but I think Batley's the you know he's more expensive, but also but think he's higher scoring.
Jarrod Dyke: the better option.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah. Fitz Harding and Bill Mata, i know stay away from Luitua. um you know Obviously stay away from any nine who's not Randle.
Grumpy Old Prop: In this point, Tom Jordan is a sneaky play, but maybe wait a week to add him, or if you you know add him this week, maybe don't start him, um just because Sarri's just crushed Hens. It's not ah not a good matchup.
Grumpy Old Prop: um And, you know, we get out like Benhard Janssen van Rensburg has killed Saris in the past. So he's still, he's still a full on go.
Jarrod Dyke: Yes, he has.
Grumpy Old Prop: And um that but new guy, he's he's new to rugby. I guess he he was playing in the in the NFL or trying to play in the NFL for not, and it didn't work out.
Jarrod Dyke: trying to
Grumpy Old Prop: So he's giving rugby a shot. um Louis Rees-Samit. um I didn't need to tell you, but there it is.
Jarrod Dyke: yeah if i need if we need to tell you that then you are definitely desperately in need of our experience and you should go grab our patreon please all right wrap up the weekend gloucester and northampton
Grumpy Old Prop: Right. Right.
Grumpy Old Prop: Right. ah Yes. You need as much advice as as as you can get. So please join our Patreon.
Jarrod Dyke: Um, for Gloucester, um, for Sogbon in both formats, Elamano in both formats, Freddie Thomas, Thomas Williams, and then the centers. Yes. Um, and then it here's where it gets fun. Um, draft only.
Jarrod Dyke: I'd play either of the hookers that if singles is isn't healthy, innard is fine. Arthur Clark, same thing. Clement burned. You don't want to play in super brew, but he's fine in draft.
Jarrod Dyke: Um, loader or thoroughly i'm not really convinced of in super bruise so just stick to draft only for them and lewis love those probably gonna be back in the back row i have no interest in him in either so pass um for the saints davison fiscati is i'm um i'm betting fiscati starts this week um played really well one the few things good things about that second half of the saints was him um
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah, not really
Grumpy Old Prop: Right
Jarrod Dyke: Coles, Pearson, Ram, Hendy, and then Todaro, all thumbs up for both formats. Halfbacks, not named Alex Mitchell, should be a draft-only options. Bellow, same thing.
Jarrod Dyke: ASY, Chick, yeah, I suppose. ah The centers are in the same category. Dingwall, Litchfield, Hutchinson, either of them.
Grumpy Old Prop: her
Jarrod Dyke: Right now, I don't have a lot of interest in either hooker or any lock that's not Alex Coles for the Saints.
Grumpy Old Prop: yeah I agreed
Jarrod Dyke: And that includes my doppelganger. Yeah.
Grumpy Old Prop: yeah
Jarrod Dyke: God, it looks it looks like me out there.
Grumpy Old Prop: you're mini me but smaller
Jarrod Dyke: It really does. The face isn't the same, but man, everything else, like the body language.
Grumpy Old Prop: yeah yeah who
Jarrod Dyke: And i was like, Jesus Christ, where my, where were you like, I don't know, ah while ago. I need to be that.
Grumpy Old Prop: yeah
Jarrod Dyke: God damn. um All right. Other weeks. Hmm.
Grumpy Old Prop: I'm going with some unorthodox ones I think this week but um ones that I think will you know you don't need to be told to start Louis Rees-Sammett so let's be clear here it's not really meant to be those unless they're like far and away you've got to play them this week more than any other um So my sneaky start of the week, who I think is going to be the guy long term, and I think they're going to do well as a club overall, Orlando Bailey for Leicester.
Grumpy Old Prop: um Obviously, James O'Connor is coming in, but you know we saw with Crusaders, like you know he was perfectly happy to play 20 minutes.
Jarrod Dyke: he Yeah, he may not be the guy, so
Grumpy Old Prop: and right And I don't think he would sign to come and just be the guy. um I don't think he really wants to do that. He seemed pretty happy being the 20 minute man. So I think or he's going to be that um help for Orlando Bailey.
Grumpy Old Prop: And that's going to work really well.
Jarrod Dyke: Yep.
Grumpy Old Prop: So, but now get in on the, on the ground floor with him.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah. I mean, I went a little bit low-hanging fruit, but after watching the opposition defense last week, and one of these guys is good.
Grumpy Old Prop: Okay.
Jarrod Dyke: And one guy popped for this team this week, and think it's his turn this week. I'm going to Hustle Collins for my start the week.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah. So we're kind of going, looking at the same match there. um And that, that Harley Quinn's defense.
Jarrod Dyke: Yep.
Grumpy Old Prop: um
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, it's where it's worrying. It's worrying. I'd be... George, I love you, buddy, but I would be shitting my pants if I was you when it comes to that defense.
Grumpy Old Prop: Right.
Grumpy Old Prop: um Sit of the week is ah you, you had him as a start, but I i do not um based on this matchup and it's like my sit of the week is George Ford.
Grumpy Old Prop: I don't like him going into to the wreck and putting up points.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, the ah the only reason I'm into him... For either format is because he will put foot to ball and put it through the post.
Grumpy Old Prop: Right.
Jarrod Dyke: So it's probably the most valuable it'll bring. And point to points.
Grumpy Old Prop: They are. I just, I don't know how many opportunities he's going to get this week.
Jarrod Dyke: Find out.
Grumpy Old Prop: That's my, that's my question is a little between like, that's, that's what he's bringing to the table and I don't know.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, that's fair.
Grumpy Old Prop: He's going to get many opportunities to do it.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah. I'm going with... And I hope I'm very wrong on this one. But I love George McGuigan, but I just don't know if this matchup is going to go well for him. Especially after watching the way Exeter could defend the lineup. Granted, the throwers that Northampton have weren't that good.
Jarrod Dyke: And McGuigan's a little bit better. But still, like, Zambonan going up into the air there, the way he was able to steal a couple of those, that worries me in terms of trying to complete lineouts. And they have Freddie, but...
Grumpy Old Prop: Yeah.
Jarrod Dyke: Yeah, I don't know. it It worries me. And if that's china of one of your big things, you're not going to be able to get a lineup drive going if you can't complete your goddamn line out. So Godspeed, dude.
Grumpy Old Prop: Right.
Jarrod Dyke: All right. So the good news for you all out there is we don't have to have a headache of worrying about whether or not we're going to have but but all the lineups dropped in enough time this week because we only are having Friday friday games, no Thursday games, Saturday, Sunday, all the fun.
Grumpy Old Prop: Yes.
Grumpy Old Prop: Sweet.
Jarrod Dyke: um But yes. we be back We'll be back next week as usual, but we appreciate everyone that hangs out with us and listens to us and supports us. We will catch you guys next week. Enjoy the rugby this weekend. Have a good one.
Grumpy Old Prop: Later.
Jarrod Dyke: Cheers.
