Cokeley Brothers: And, you know, we had some, I would say overall we had some pretty good results. So let's take a look at some of those. We had two champs and two bronze.

Cokeley Brothers: in men's freestyle and then in women's we had ah champ and one two three four bronze and then we did not no we had more than that five bronze two champs women's freestyle okay no placers in greco becca melilla shreely took fifth that was our closest he had a yeah yeah he actually he did pretty well i'd say So yeah, men's freestyle.

Cokeley Brothers: Luke Lilladol won his bracket. He had... a I think he was trailing in all of his matches. And... Came back and won all of them.

Cokeley Brothers: And his his win in the finals was over ah Islam Bazarganov, who I think is... i don't remember where exactly he is in the rankings, but he's up there. So Luke Lilladol is continuing to kind of prove that he is...

Cokeley Brothers: a name to be to pay attention to at the senior level of 57 kilos so that's that's cool to see because i mean i don't know about you guys but i kind of i kind of doubted whether he would really be somebody who should be in the top five uh but it kind of feels like it makes sense at this point so about what call

Reese: Well, how do we feel about that call?

Cokeley Brothers: They they did have to give somebody a score. Basically, the ruling was saying that if action goes out of bounds, but the first thing to hit is a hand, you know something something to that effect, um there needs to be a step-out called.

Cokeley Brothers: And so they...

Cokeley Brothers: But yeah, that was his first match against the German. The kid from Germany is tough. so Honestly, all of his guys were. Rahul from India and Bazarganov from Azerbaijan. They're all tough.

Cokeley Brothers: Yeah. And then our other champ was Trent Heidly, and he had he he had quite the tournament. He took out... Hang on, let me pull up the rankings here so that I can give you accurate rankings. He took out number five, Abubkar Abukarov, in round one. He beat him seven to two.

Cokeley Brothers: He teched Hungary's Christian Angyal, ten to zero. ah Beat Don Krugliev, who was ranked number one. He got the opening takedown and then it looked like in that exchange, Kruglyev jacked his knee up.

Cokeley Brothers: ah And it, it looks kind of serious. So I don't know if we're going to see Kruglyev, at least not at full health ah by the time Worlds comes around, but hopefully we do because.

Reese: You don't even tell me who the who the actual person was when I lose.

Cokeley Brothers: Huh?

Cokeley Brothers: And then in the finals, in the finals, he got a 7-2 win over Miriani Miserads from Georgia, who is ranked ninth.

Ryne: I've never not gotten it.

Cokeley Brothers: So he beat beat number five and number nine and in a way beat number one. So kind of proving that he is at the very least third best guy in the world. So it's a good look.

Cokeley Brothers: um

Reese: proving beyond a doubt.

Cokeley Brothers: I, I like the way it looked.

Cokeley Brothers: J.I. Yellow, Trent Heidley, J.I. Yellow took third at 97 kilos.

Reese: Oh, yeah.

Cokeley Brothers: um He lost to Zbigniew Baranowski and then um got a pin over Vicky from India and tech over Juwan Seo from Korea.

Reese: How old is that, dude?

Cokeley Brothers: I like the way he looks.

Cokeley Brothers: So that's at least something. And then our other bronze medalist was, um David Carr. And he had he had quite the tournament. ah Beat Teron Byramov and Orozbek Toktomambetov from Kyrgyzstan.

Cokeley Brothers: ah And then in the semis, he had Kota Takahashi, who took out Sakazanov in the round before. And this is quite the interesting match. This is Takahashi's first competition back since he hurt himself at the non-Olympic Worlds last year. And...

Cokeley Brothers: looks really strong, uh, and is still quite capable. He beat David Carr nine to seven, but, uh, all of David's points came late in the match. So Takahashi is somebody who seems to kind of fade in his matches. Kind of like, uh, kind like Musakayev also has that very explosive motion to get to that blast double like, like Musakayev.

Cokeley Brothers: Uh, but I don't know I think this is a match that David Carr can win.

Reese: Well, so this was another controversial call, right?

Cokeley Brothers: And I think,

Cokeley Brothers: Kind of, yeah, there was there was a couple things that happened here. um Right off the bat, I think David Carr takes a shot and Takahashi gets in on a re-attack and then drives Carr out of bounds.

Cokeley Brothers: And Carr's like kind of bear crawling along with it. But you can see the force is definitely being driven by Takahashi. But then they go they go one caution one off that. um And then there was another exchange where I feel like they...

Reese: There's a test wrap, right? The car for test wrap.

Cokeley Brothers: Yes. Yes. So Takahashi dove in on a double. David stops it completely stops the motion with a chest wrap um to the point where Takahashi drags his feet and at his feet get lifted up in the air.

Cokeley Brothers: And then Carr kind of sits back and tilts him over to the side rather than just trying to take him straight back, showing a change in direction. And then they just settled on the exchange and said, ah two for Takahashi, nothing for David Carr.

Cokeley Brothers: which i I get that you're rewarding the aggressor, but with the way David stopped, completely stopped the position and changed his direction, feel like that's kind of a textbook definition from what I know to be a score that should go in David Carr's favor.

Cokeley Brothers: Or at least two and two. But... um even Even with that in mind, and with the next match included, he got a 4-4 win over Salkazana for bronze, a match that he lost earlier this year, I think David Carr looks really good.

Cokeley Brothers: I think he's going to be somebody who is contending for a medal, and with his offense... I think it kind of depends on the David Carr that we see. Because we saw him at World Team Trials where it seemed like he wasn't able to generate much offense or get to his leg attacks.

Cokeley Brothers: But at this tournament, basically every time he got in on his shots, he was sting staying consistently in good position, even through all the tricks that these Europeans were giving him, and was able to slowly collect the position to get scores.

Cokeley Brothers: And so if we see that at Worlds, I think David Carr is a, uh, metal contender, maybe even a title contender. So I really liked that. Really like seeing that.

Cokeley Brothers: So I'm happy. I'm happy to, to see that for our 74 kilogram rep. Uh, yeah. And that's hungry. Well, that's the ranking series.

Ryne: I'm hungry.

Cokeley Brothers: You should have eaten before this. It's late. Okay.

Cokeley Brothers: Pizza pizza. Okay. And the other event that went down was PWL nine. If you don't know what PWL, it is the professional things. Actually, is it just, it might just be professional wrestling league.

Cokeley Brothers: Maybe I feel like there's no way.

Cokeley Brothers: Maybe hang on. Yeah. Professional wrestling league. That's funny. ah It's a Russian wrestling league and they had a duel between the United States and Russia called USA versus Russia wrestling for peace, which was an interesting way of phrasing it. But um it was good. I think it was a good event.

Cokeley Brothers: ah There was... uh uh unfortunately seth gross was set to wrestle in it he wrestled in budapest at the ranking series and got hurt seemingly and had to pull out so dylan kuntz who's a ah greco specialist filled in for him um and you know it was a duel where there was like an actual team decided as a winner not just a set of 10 matches and uh russia won at six to four and in terms of matches and Now, I think there's a lot of really good wrestling in here.

Cokeley Brothers: I don't know if you guys got the chance to watch it or not, but no, Ryan.

Reese: He's

Ryne: I've watched the clips.

Cokeley Brothers: Ryan's watched the clips. Did you watch my clips?

Cokeley Brothers: Yeah. Yeah. So 57 kilos, Musa Mektikanov, Mektikanov, something like that, beat Luke Lilladol This was an interesting match.

Cokeley Brothers: um Because Luke was winning ah five to three late. like... ah and it seemed like He was continuing to work on his offense and try and get to scores.

Cokeley Brothers: And it ended in an exchange where Musa got to a go behind, but they're up on their feet. And Luke kind of works himself towards the out of bounds. They call a takedown and a ah caution in one. So it's six to five short time left.

Cokeley Brothers: Luke goes for broke, loses eight to five. um a match that he definitely could have won, which is very interesting because that's the number four guy in the world. So more proof that Luke Lillodal is a name at 57 kilos. And if he continues to be around at this weight for the next, for the rest of the cycle, I don't, if I'm Spencer Lee, I'm not saying this is for sure my weight class for team USA, because you have, you know, probably one of the next best guys at the weight also contending for that spot.

Cokeley Brothers: So Something to look at.

Reese: look at.

Cokeley Brothers: But after that first half of this, this duel was ugly. Uh, Coons got teched by, ah the other Mekta Mekta Khan of, uh, Abbas Ghazi Magomedov tech CJ Composto, uh, cyan.

Cokeley Brothers: Kazirik teched Bryce Antonian 13-0 in like a minute and a half. This was this was one of the this is probably the ugliest match of the bracket, or the duel. I mean, i think Bryce Antonian, if he wants to be able to contend with... I don't i doubt he's gonna he's going to change anything about about the way he wrestles.

Cokeley Brothers: But you can't let you can't let at least the Russians get in so deep on your on shots and then expect that they're going to

Reese: Never change.

Cokeley Brothers: ah feed into the funk. Because they're just very fundamental. I mean, this guy picked apart Andonian, and it was impressive. But also not really. like it just you You knew it was going to happen.

Cokeley Brothers: so

Cokeley Brothers: ah And then after that, Joey Blaze had a good match against Debir Gidziev, 74 kilos. And then Dean Hamity pins number five in the world.

Cokeley Brothers: After he was down eight to four at one point, makes ah Makes a comeback, is up 12-8 and gets the pin with a minute and a half left in the match. Marcus Coleman, late in his match, takes out ah number 19 in the world, Amanula Rasulov.

Cokeley Brothers: Mike Machiavelli is basically battling with Amanula Gadsimago Medov at 92 kilos and in it and wins that match 10-6. And then J. Aiello wins his match eight to one So boom, boom, boom. all the all All a sudden, just like that, the match is five to four The dual score is.

Cokeley Brothers: And then Trent Hilger's got Zelim Khan Kazryev. And i don't think this is going to be, i don't think he won Russian nationals. So I don't think this is going to be their rep, but he looked pretty good against Trent, which is a little concerning to me.

Cokeley Brothers: Wow. I have, I have checked both of you out.

Ryne: No, um'm I'm just thinking, did that kid really look good against Trent? I honestly, like, I didn't think that was Trent's best showing.

Cokeley Brothers: I mean, with the way I saw Trent wrestle Hendrickson, I was excited to see Trent wrestle other people.

Cokeley Brothers: Yeah.

Ryne: I feel like Hilger, and I mean, I thought about, I thought this whenever Hilger was in college, like, he's got consistency issues sometimes. Yeah.

Cokeley Brothers: Right. I guess i didn't think about the fact that Trent also wrestled in Budapest or at the ranking series event. He went 0-1, lost to some guy from Kazakhstan, 9-2. So I don't think this was the best version of Hilbert.

Cokeley Brothers: He got teched. And it was like...

Ryne: He's just just very hit and miss sometimes.
