Speaker: Joe, can you hear me? Joe, can you hear me? Cause I don't see you. I just see your microphone.
Speaker: You were talking on the phone to somebody about how much you appreciated it. You were talking on the phone.
Speaker: and
Speaker: I can hear you talking on the phone. Yeah. Oh, could you really like the whole conversation? I heard you appreciating someone a lot. And you know what? It reminded me.
Speaker: It reminded me of how good you are at appreciating people because you express your appreciation. Of course, if you're living in Southern California, it's pretty easy to express your appreciation for almost everything. And why and why is it why is that?
Speaker: Because it's beautiful all the time. Dude, did you go to Oxford pennant? I did. ah You showed me that before. That's Isn't it a great... Isn't it a great... That is a great company. i have a i have a I have one of their pennants in my office.
Speaker: It says... um I think I've seen it. Great minds over think alike. Yeah. That's a great one. We need... There's some really the good ones like... do good work and fear no man. That's another one of my favorite ones too. Yeah.
Speaker: That's your kind of thing. Like you, you know, all about less stitching and all that stuff. Oh yeah. Cause it's, that's, that's the kind of, that's the kind of stuff that like you get jazzed about. Yeah.
Speaker: No, I mean, again, I appreciate, I appreciate Rush, you the um the intentionality of all things, you know? So it's like like when somebody is really thoughtful and intentional about something, even down to the color of a stitch on a pennant, like Oxford pennant, and the way that they think about it, like their phrases or whatever, to be a little creative and Man, i just i appreciate I appreciate the design.
Speaker: And I think that's some of the stuff that we do here on the show, you know that we're just that there's ah there's an intentionality and a design to how to move towards people, how to think about people, how to find people interesting. And so that's why the people who are on the show are are people who are that they're intentional about things.
Speaker: So we're talking to we're talking to mali Malibu? This is exciting. Malibu. Josiah is so excited about this. he He's asking me, doesn't quite understand how it works.
Speaker: He thinks that I can give him his cell phone number. I don't have his cell phone number. He wants to ask him questions about lifting and he doesn't understand quite how it works, but this is going to be exciting and interesting. I actually, because where you're like, hey, I found this guy interesting and I reached out to him and he's willing to be on the show. I'm like, oh man. And then I kind of looked, I'm like, oh, I think at some point or another, he kind of passed by my feed. And then go to my boys, go to my boys, I go, hey, do you know this guy? They're like, oh yeah, man, we all watch him, blah, blah, blah. And I was like, oh, well, he's going to be on the show. And then,
Speaker: it but and They always just but it was just to have this this look of like, man, people actually want to be on that thing? Yeah, it's weird. They gotta give this look like, seriously, this guy wants to hang out with you and Rush? I go, yeah. I mean, hey, we're, you know.
Speaker: Separately average. Together, unstoppable.
Speaker: Let's do this.
Speaker: hundred andho What's up? now Malibu! our listeners, we just got on. We're all set. Malibu, this gave me this sweet flex and i am like I am so in the zone right now. By the way, i want to let you know, Malibu, I'm inspired. I got a Waterloo ah coconut lime you know little refresher here. Just give me and the and me in the vibe. Give me in the vibe of what's happening.
Speaker: Malibu, thank you so much for just being with us. It's just a real gift to us. Thanks for being with us today. Oh, dude. It's my pleasure. I loved it. You guys sent me, you he talked to me, sent me an invite. Definitely. I love doing the podcast myself.
Speaker: Man, it's great. It's great. And we know we know you've had a we you've had a busy day. You were horseback riding earlier today. And ah you know i just want to say, i love your Malibu vibe, persona, everything Joe knows that I wish I could live in California. And so I love that kind of vibe. But But I think you're from, you're, ah you've moved around a lot, right? You're, you've, you've lived in Michigan. I think, are you in Texas now?
Speaker: I'm in Texas right now, yes. okay so Okay. So tell me, I'm so curious, can you just give me can you give me just kind of the the arc the arc of your story? Meaning like, how does how does somebody, how did you be and become Malibu? like where did it where did it all start for you ah dode So, like, really, I've just always been like this, you know? It's like a lot of my really close friends, she actually says, like, ah you just got discovered. You were always always famous.
Speaker: I love it, yeah you know it's all yeah. I've always been like this, dude. Like, I was in the in the military. a lot of people can't believe I was in the military because, you know, this.
Speaker: You know, and when I was in the Army, it was like, it was funny, dude, because, like, yeah, I stuck out like crazy, dude. Of course, I had the i short hair and stuff, but you know I was like this always.
Speaker: And that's where I got the Malibu name, dude. i think i freak like I'm sorry, whoever that was that brought that video to my attention 20 years ago, but it was somebody. I was in this like driver's class for learning how to drive military vehicles.
Speaker: And one day we showed up, and someone's like, bro, look at this. And he shows me ah this video from YouTube. And it was like Malibu, the American Gladiator. And everyone's like, No way. They're like, you sound just like that. So they just called me Malibu.
Speaker: that's so cool. Yeah. Even when I got out of the army, like, you know, I tell people that story. People want to call me Malibu. And then, you know, just like all my gamer tags are always like digital Malibu or Malibu. Yep. Yep.
Speaker: Okay. So tell me this. so the um So in terms of in terms of the worldview, so I think in terms of what, like you see the world, you see the world through through a lens. like and And honestly, and honestly i see such a sense of joy that that makes that that gives me joy. you know when you When I see somebody who just really genuinely just goes, you know what, this these are the things that I enjoy. don't want to share that with others. You just embody that for me.
Speaker: Tell me a little bit about about how you what are like the two to four things that you really think about that are real priorities for you? like When you think about your days, when you think about making decisions, what are the things that really stand out to you as like things that really are meaningful to you and important to you?
Speaker: That's an interesting question because my life has drastically changed in like the last six months. so it's like Now I know I i have this platform to be on. and like um you know It's like i not like a lot of power, but it's like um i can I can ask for a lot of things and people like will help me out and stuff. yeah totally The first thing i i always think about every day is like you know I'm always so grateful for where I am.
Speaker: And as you know I try to do that through like responding to a lot of comments and stuff and and inviting people to share this life with me. I do this thing, live in Malibu. I'll take a random person from, like not not the comments, but like the ah like what's kind of like the comments, but they go to the gym I go to.
Speaker: And I'll be like, you'll be on my story for the day. So I just think about like first being grateful and then second, like how to give back today. like i always want to do like one thing that's like you know not just um helping me progress on my journey but either like helping people come up to do like to be where i am or just giving back like today was um the start of something or were going to red river ranch they do a lot of charity work with uh children and help you know give children like a look at horseback riding cowboy life working on a farm, stuff like that. you know Get them off the screens, get them out of the house, especially in the summer. School started just here.
Speaker: So you know that was something I really liked to do, to like be able to give back like that. and But then aside from that, when it comes to thinking about myself, now it's like first I want to protect like my heart every day.
Speaker: So, you know, there's like a lot of things you can do to protect your heart. Like, you know, just like you kind of ignore all the hate that's coming, coming in. and And that's not just a Natalie. I used to get hate when I was just a regular person being a trainer.
Speaker: yeah A lot of times people see this, they see happiness and people don't want others to be happy for some reason. So it's like, I try to guard my heart.
Speaker: And then after that fitness, like, you know, got to do something for my health because, you know, your body, it's like, it's Your body's not going to stay healthy by doing nothing. You know, it's like your body, as we age and stuff, a lot of people become even more sedentary.
Speaker: And, you know, what you really got to do is keep moving, dude. You don't have to be a bodybuilder to be fit. You don't have to be an influencer. You don't have to track everything. You don't have to go 100%. And that's like really what I try to show by sharing like my life is like, you know, it's like, yeah, I'm a fitness and influenceent influencer, but, you know, it's like fitness doesn't have to be like your whole world. Like it's just a part of your day.
Speaker: Well, I can tell that's that's true, Malibu, because of the just the way that you, when we reached out to you, the way that you were really generous in responding and even just you know spending this time with us. But you know I'm curious, what what has the last six months been like for you? Because everything's changed so quickly.
Speaker: what What kind of kicked that off? And then what's it been like over the last six months? Oh, it's super exciting. Every day feels like Christmas. I cannot believe it. It's like, you know, it's like, but you know, with the good comes the bad too. So it's like, you know, a lot more hate, you know, it's like people like, you know, I pretty much have like lost almost every friend I ever had because, you know, you find out maybe those people just weren't really your friend.
Speaker: Yeah. People get jealous. Some people try to tear you down. you know and it's like you know that That's not always the fun part. And and then making new friends, like you know being in this position, it's kind of hard sometimes. like you know like Why are you my friend? because like i you know I'll ahll meet new people be like, yeah, dude, let's chill. And then I'll say talk about it' like you know how that how I can help them out.
Speaker: It's awesome. It feels like business. At the end of the day, it's like I want to be able to just like chill and vibe, talk about the stuff that I like to do on my own in my own time.
Speaker: you know, in my own space and stuff. And it's, you know, I'd love to share this life with someone, but it's hard to find, find somebody like, you know, even when it comes down to like a partner, I've been single for like over a year now. So, and now it's like impossible to go on dates because I don't know why they like me.
Speaker: Yeah. I'm sure it's hard. um It's really insightful. I think, you know, we talk about and think about, um different kinds of friendship. you know There are ones that are that are more transactional. Hey, you do this for me, I do this for you. And then there's there's transformational friendships, ones that really move move into the heart. what What are things that you encourage your heart with that that gives you that that protects your heart. When you talk about protecting your heart, what are those things that that are of encouragement to you to actually explore and to and to really pursue maybe genuine friendship?
Speaker: Yeah, actually, it's like what I put online is my genuine personality. A lot of people can't believe that because you know we live in a world where if you see online, that's fake.
Speaker: You know, but, you know, it's really, it's like, you know, i work with like a lot of video, app videographers that are like, oh, wow, dude, I can just like keep the camera on. Cause like, you you just never stop. It's just here, you know, but but what I tell myself, it's like, you know, just be yourself. And I appreciate encouragement. A lot of people are like, hey, don't change, be yourself.
Speaker: Cause you know, I mean, you know, I get my heart broke once in a while cause I'm myself and then people like, sure. You know, it stop. mock me and stuff but you know it's like i've moved around a lot in my life like different even different countries and cultures so i realized you know at an early age like you know hey just be yourself not everyone's gonna like you like literally i i say this a lot to people liking somebody's 50 50 you know either they good here they're not 50 chance so you can expect after the people you meet don't like you but at least most of those people are nice to your face
Speaker: what's your What's your family background like you know like? Where did you grow up? and And what's been the path that sort of brought you you know to this point, being in Texas? and Oh, man. it's like do i like Family life is awesome. We always had a great family. like So it's like, oh, see I got hit in the eye? I love it. When did you get hit in the eye?
Speaker: Oh, no, just this morning. It was just trying to jump off and stuff. Oh, man. I just my side. Yeah. It's okay. Like, yeah, it's, everything's new to me. So, but, um, but yeah, dude, my family was always nice. That's like why I got in into fitness. My mom was always big into nutrition, you know? So, you know, and then my dad was like the traditional guy. Like he loved working out. He always, we were always a member of a fitness club growing up, like from early teens.
Speaker: So at least on Saturday, we always did that a couple times a week. My dad would come home. We'd go to the gym with them. So, you know, we always learned to be fit. And, um you know, there wasn't like, um my parents never had like a ton of food in the house or anything like that, like that we had free access to, which is, you know, like I have all my friends, you know, I'm older now. all My friends have kids and like, I go over to their house, their kids are just grabbing snacks all the time. oh yeah I'm like, you know, That's why, that might be why childhood obesity is huger. You know, but it's funny because like i in my house, like we never were like, I want a snack.
Speaker: You know, we just like, we had, we always had stuff to do and we wanted to do those things. And it was like, You know, our parents, my mom and dad have to call my brother and I and be like, Hey, it's time for dinner. You have to come eat.
Speaker: You know, like, can we, can we play after, you know, like, yeah, but you have to come eat, you know? So it's like, you know, I always fit like that. I appreciate my parents, like caring about like, um, like, so you know, stuff like that, you know, because my mom would tell us like, Oh, you're hungry. Well, you know, we're going to eat dinners. Just wait till dinner.
Speaker: Are your parents a part of all the success you're having right now? Are you near them? Well, actually, my um my dad passed away in 2020 from cancer. oh I'm sorry. So he's like a five-year battle. But but um dude, my mom, right now right now she's 72. She's in Michigan. My nephews live with them.
Speaker: And um you know she stays fit herself at her age, too. I got her this thing. um This company, Sand Dune Stepper, sent me something. I gave it to her. it's something she can do just to be active.
Speaker: Every day, you just put it near a countertop. You can like hold on to the counter and then you're just moving your feet up and down. It feels like you're on sand to stay active. So she's 72, has a home gym. She does that most of the time now. know, it's kind of decreased mobility, but.
Speaker: yeah there' like My mom supports me. She like invests into my company all the time. Bies me a ton of like that equipment back there. All these cameras around here. She loves to buy that stuff for me. and so but you know they She loves it. and she's always She always told me, be myself. She's always supportive of anything I wanted to do you know it's like Always just a loving family. we you know Very kind to each other.
Speaker: you know We didn't have like too many rules, but like one of the biggest rules was like you have to be kind. You have to be nice. There's no fighting, no yelling. You know, it's like, I hear people yelling in their house now and stuff too. And I'm like, I don't know what it'd be like growing up with that. that' that's What a, but what a blessing.
Speaker: Do you, you know what I'm, a help me. So if somebody, if somebody, so how would you describe yourself? So you're talking about, Hey, being yourself and,
Speaker: And I just like, that's so wonderful. the The freedom and being able to even push through the challenges of, of someone being themselves today, that if somebody else were to describe you, how would you want them to describe you? How would you want to, what's the picture of you being you? How would you paint that picture for us?
Speaker: I would hope they would say like, you know, i'm a genuine, authentic, know kind-hearted, empathetic. you know it's like Anyone comes up to me like in public, that they want to take a picture, like they don't only they don't only get that. like i'll you know You want to talk, I'll talk, dude. And I'll talk to people until the point where it's like um like my the agent's with me. It's like, hey, we got to go. you know i just you know i love i love being around people i love helping people that's why i became a trainer and like you know once i started working at crunch is like you know i really was able to help a lot more people plus i was in the gym all the time so i can like kind of keep the vibe even people are not like personal training clients they're just members of the gym they see me every day it's like you know i would tell everyone it doesn't matter if you have a friend in the gym because
Speaker: Once you meet me, you have one in the gym every day. No excuses. You could show up. We'll say hi. I will talk. You think I don't care? Try me. I'll listen. Yeah. Take care of me. Just like the gym, have some fun.
Speaker: Man, I want to tell you, i really I really have appreciated your personality because as I've observed you you know a little bit on ah online, it's it's really obvious that you are exactly who you are. And it's like everywhere that you go, you're at Johnny Rockets, you're at the gym, you're at Bucky's. You're always the same and you seem to me to be really comfortable in your own skin. Not many people feel that. And I'm making an assumption, you know, correct me if I'm wrong. You may not feel comfortable in your own skin, but I just want you to know it comes across that way. And it's actually a really encouraging to people that see you because most people don't feel that way. They don't feel like they can just turn on a camera and just, and just be them.
Speaker: And so do you, do you feel comfortable in your own skin? Yeah. I mean, like, I, you know, it's like, I don't, I don't need a lot of prep work or anything. Like, you know, it's like, all I want to do is usually to get ready for anything. I just want to shower.
Speaker: You know, that's it. And it's, you know, it's more than we do. everywhere Me too. Me too, Malibu. I'm with you on that. That's all I need. a You know, and it's like, um you know, a lot of people, especially in the fitness space, they're into the peptides and stuff that are supposed supposedly helping your skin. And, um you know, a lot of people, like, do all the skincare stuff. And they're like, Matt, you have great skin, what do you do? And I'm like, you know, I mean, I put lotion and, like, some stuff on there. But I'm like, you know, dude, i'm just I just try to be happy and enjoy my life.
Speaker: You know, it's like... ah i'm happy like everywhere i go even if it's like like even today like some stuff got pushed out like a couple days that i was really looking forward to doing to doing tonight but you know it's like every day everything's happening for a reason that you just you no idea and uh and i just let the day unfold you know it's like things will things good things will come like i was just telling my best friend last night i was like I was like, you know, I knew i knew it was worth it being a good person this whole life, even know though was like, you know, it just feels like working in nine to five, you know, never making a lot of like, you know, disposable incomes, not as big as you want it and stuff. And I was like, I was a good person forever. And it finally paid off. i I think, I don't know, but she's also the person who says I was always famous because even before this, like everyone in my hometown,
Speaker: Like they knew who I was. Like, you know, I'd go to the mall. They're like, Hey, ballad but because they knew me from crunch and stuff. So it was like, you know, even other people, they're like, dude, I knew it was just a matter of time. Like I was out there.
Speaker: And I was like, I didn't, I did, I did not know that. but you know it is it is fun to be It is fun to be surprised. They go, oh, I'll just i'll just share share what I've always experienced. And maybe there would be somebody else that would enjoy that. And there is a there's a delight to be able to hear, oh, you know what There are other people that would enjoy that. I'd be blessed by that.
Speaker: um Okay, so so hard pivot. Okay. So what is it, what is it that, uh, for you that, that is challenging for you? What is it that's something that, that is challenging for you? And then what's also something that maybe, uh, you would be afraid of something that, that is, that's concerning to you where, where underneath those things does, does that, does that show itself?
Speaker: Well, dude, those are awesome questions. Definitely have the answers for you though. Um, oh wait, what was the first question? I'm sorry. So the first question was, what is a, what is a challenge right now? What, what is a challenge for you? And then, and then another thought is that as you think about what are some of the things that don't know that you would be afraid of or concerned about that's in the future. So challenge today, and then what's kind of fear or things that you're concerned about in the future?
Speaker: Yeah. So the challenge, challenge right now, um, definitely different than um than a year ago but um now the challenge for me every day is like where where do i want to put my energy you know want to make sure like because like like it goes back to like you know what i think about first every day too you know it's like i don't want to just think about myself all the day all the time because i was never doing that i was like always trying to you know be at the gym help other people help my family out and like, you know, and then this happened. So it's like, you know, I think the challenge for me is like, because it's very tempting to become very selfish right now.
Speaker: And like, yeah and imperial list you know, so it's like, I want to make sure that every day I'm putting my energy into things that like are not all about me. Cause it's, I mean, it's so easy to, that's a great answer. a but That's a great answer.
Speaker: and it's addicting dude because like you know even like even though i'm new there's already new influencers coming up you know and i like a lot of them they go they go right to the fast cars super expensive clothes you know and it's like you know i can feel that temptation but you know it's like you know like i have a like i have a lot of friends i like to buy them I like to, you know, i'll go out shopping. So, you know, now they catch on, they come out shopping with me and I'm like, I'll buy, you know, Hey, you want to coach that? pay you coach that ah felt was like
Speaker: I like to share the wealth. So it's like the biggest challenge is not to become like everyone else. dia Do you feel a lot of pressure? Yeah. So the the thing that scares me the most is like, you know, I definitely believe evil is real, man. You know, and it's like, it's random too. It's like, you have no idea.
Speaker: happen and it's like it's kind of scary sometimes because people do some mean things just it's like i think you're just being mean to be mean you know you know it's like you know sometimes i get threats and dms and i think like you know the one scariest thing is like someone you know actually has this thought in their head and they can like They try to carry it out like, holy crap, dude. There's no way I can be making you that mad. i'm like like Still for myself, feel like I'm just a regular guy that everybody knows.
Speaker: That's literally scary because people like that exist. Yeah. it's that's literally scary that because people in people like that exist yeah yeah it's such a challenge because being on social media, ah to the degree that you are, you are out for everyone to see, but you can't you can't see who's watching. You can't know how people are are perceiving you or what they're what their thoughts are. So I can see how that's a super challenging thing. Are there are there things that you have to do to be especially careful about that? Yeah.
Speaker: you're careful with who you, who you interact with or you, do you just try to ignore, i mean, you didn't ignore our DM, which we're grateful for, but do you just try to sort through them and ignore a lot of people? um like, you know, I eventually like I'll read everything because eventually I'll get time enough to like, go I mean, I don't like open a lot of the message. I just read what it, what it shows you on the screen there. Oh yeah. Yeah.
Speaker: You know? And, um, you know it's like I think you guys had a blue checkmark or something too. There's a lot of bots out there. in the boxts the bos either like those few sometimes, they But yeah, you know it's like you know I end up reading like no a lot of hate, though. But like I said, that wasn't that was from even before everything popped off. like i I had 700 followers like six months seven months ago.
Speaker: Dude, that's crazy. I don't know. How many followers do you have now? like Across all pat platforms, 3 million. little Really? Really? Wow. That's really exciting. I'm so glad for you. That's really great. That's really great. is interesting, Malbu, what I'm hearing And I think this is This is true how the world works, is that...
Speaker: is that and i think this i think this is true this is true and how the world works is that the way to combat evil is not with evil, but with good.
Speaker: Yes. That to be able to shine the light of good and truth against evil and lies, that is that is always in the long term, right? Yes.
Speaker: yeah but that's always That's always the best pathway. And honestly, it's the hardest pathway because people don't even to realize that it's actually easier to meet evil with evil.
Speaker: Very much. The temptation is great as well. Yeah. that and then And then to be able to say, okay, I'm actually going to respond and I'm going to... show kindness and and love and genuine, even to those even to those who are seeking or communicating evil, that I'm not going to revile in return, but rather I'm going to seek to to bless. that that's a yeah I feel like that that is a that is a truth that a truth that um that my desire is is that more people would lean in on and to see your courage in that.
Speaker: and am i Am I hearing that right? Yeah, you are. like yeah All the hate, like i like going back to what Rush said, I ignore it. and like I don't engage in it because I'm not going to put any negativity out there. for Another thing I tell people, being a trainer is almost like a therapist sometimes. but it's like you know If you want positive outcomes in your life,
Speaker: But like even like even if it's down to you go online and make hate comments to somebody, it's like, how can you expect positive outcomes in your life when you're giving the universe negative vibes?
Speaker: Positive vibes, I think, maybe start with maybe stop hating other human beings. you know or Help me understand. My son, ah my son is a ah he's pursuing his doctorate in physical therapy, obviously just...
Speaker: enjoys helping others. And he and I were talking a little bit about how the physical therapy, it's not just about the activity, but it's about helping the person. And you had mentioned about being a trainer is almost like a therapist. Unpack that a little bit for me, because I think our listeners will go, well, isn't a trainer just to help you to get stronger and to be fit physically? But you used the word therapist. Can you help me understand that a little bit more?
Speaker: Yeah, well, bor more so in the in the realm of like mental therapy instead of like physical therapy. Yeah, sure, sure. but yeah yeah know Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, i love physical therapists and stuff. because But like you know as a trainer, like um they need to be cleared from PT. And then they see me. lot of people will come to the trainer and be like, hey, can you fix this? like I could, but I'm not allowed to. that's not I don't have that sort of patient.
Speaker: you know It's like, go to physical therapy, come here. But the more that you train with somebody, you know it's like, well, really, you need a good trainer that you can't. you know you can open up to and then hopefully they're not all about just the talking during the session but uh you know you end up knowing a client a lot and they they tell you a lot about what's like stressing them out in life and a lot of it comes down to um you know getting enough sleep and then eating you know if you fix your sleep and you may actually have a meal plan and a meal plan is not something
Speaker: you have because you're on a journey. Like you should have a meal in every day, no matter who you are. That should just be a thing that you do. You know, it's like, you need to make sure that you eat when you wake up, like you wake up, you know, like, or get ready, take an hour, get ready, but you know, settle down and eat some food.
Speaker: You know, all these people that I've trained over the years, they're like, they're like, I'm not a breakfast person. Or really they're just saying that because what they do is they wake up last minute. And they just have to get ready, get out the door, go to work. And they're not, you know, they're not prioritizing eating. And then they they think, oh, I don't need to eat more. And it's like, you know, well, give it a shot for two weeks, make the time, do it.
Speaker: Then after two weeks, I bet you you're in a better mood during the morning and the early afternoon. You know, so... Malibu, it's it's clear that you have a you have kind of um an understanding of of both parts of what it means to be a person. Obviously, you you work out, you help people work out, you're connected to the physical side of life.
Speaker: You also have a concern for the invisible side of life, what people are like on the inside. You said that you have clients and they may talk to you about their anxieties and troubles. I'm curious, who are two people, maybe one for each, that have really influenced you in one, just the physical side of your you know working out, lifting, nutrition, training, and then who's been the most influential person to help you tap into a care, ah consideration, a joy about who people are, um you know a real interest in kindness, which you've talked about today?
Speaker: Who are those two people for you? So the the first one, getting into fitness. So it's not directly, but it's Arnold Schwarzenegger. Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker: I think I was like 16 or 17. My mom bought a copy of Arnold Schwarzenegger's bodybuilding encyclopedia for Christmas. My brother. And the thing in there is not... you you You wouldn't know by looking at me, Malibu, but I also had Arnold Schwarzenegger Bodybuilding Encyclopedia. show Show him your myself. I teen. We've taken different pathways, Malibu, but I just want to say we've connected at that point.
Speaker: Yeah, I mean, remember reading it, it's not it's not just about like working out. It talks about like making it part of your lifestyle, different diets for yeah different outcomes. Yeah.
Speaker: You know i know, it was like... um you know But before that, you know it's like my mom was always working for GNC. My dad was a scientist for Amway. So they like, you know, it was a lot of vitamins and stuff like that.
Speaker: So as I was already like way into the fitness magazines and stuff. Okay. you know I remember I was like in um in like eighth grade, and it was like I was all about running and like being fit. you know and like you know On my mom's side with the nutrition, and i my dad, even though he was a scientist, was like, no, you don't have to eat low calorie. You just have to do a lot of activity. It's like, yeah okay, dad, we'll have a potbelly.
Speaker: but but So who's been who's been the person on the invisible side of things? Like who has been a mentor or maybe even like a counselor to you that's shaped your your your worldview that that goes beyond just the physical realm?
Speaker: Oh, like, so I'm super close with my mother. And, like, and just I just always talk to her through everything in my life. Even, like, when I was in the Army, like, she'd be the first one I'd call. i' like, oh, my gosh, I don't know what to do. This guy is, like, treating me like crap. But he's my roommate, you know. And, you know, she's always just, like, I mean, my parents were always Christian.
Speaker: and so so i was like i grew up with that but um like they never really put like the religious part into it you know but my mom was just always caring and loving and like you know like even my dad and my dad was like kind of like a 1950s style kind of man you know and not always super nice to my mom and you know but i saw her was just always had a kind heart smile on her face that's actually where i get the lips and the smiles from my mother guy So it's like, yeah, my sister has it too, but she never uses it because she just like likes to be bitter.
Speaker: I
Speaker: don't know. But ah yeah, but I mean, life is good though. you know And my mom showed me that, like you know especially through our life. I think it came from, ah we move around a lot too, not just different states, but different countries.
Speaker: So getting into like you know just different cultures and immersing yourself in them, and um you know I think that that just kind of in its own way made my heart like you know very very you know i'm very lighthearted.
Speaker: you know I didn't go into these countries going like, no, I do things this way. I was always so interested. like like We moved to Japan when I was 16. I was like, you know I was like, oh you know I would love to know how like how do you do everything the Japanese way? you know i wasn't over there going, no, I'm American, because there's there's Americans who do that. like No, I'm American, I do it this way. It's like, bro, just you know you know that saying when in Rome, that's that's now's the time yeah i like some dudes would go over there and refuse to take off their shoes at their friend's house and it's like I bet that in America you would but now you're being weird over over here I'm American it's like yeah we know bro so I think just in it's own way that kind of made it really easy for me just to like you know there's other people who believe in other things you don't have to only be friends with people who think the same way as you
Speaker: you know, so, yeah, it just kind of, yeah, I was, I was like this, like, um, but even when I was a kid, you know, like in middle school, like, you know, i was athletic, I did sports, but also I was like super nerdy, like I was, I was magic, the gathering and D and D from seventh grade, you know, like, and it was like doing was like bridging these clicks. They used to call them clicks.
Speaker: when was a kid. If you're a person who like shuns people for not doing the things you like, they call you clicky. you know so i was always that My goal in middle school high school was to be friends with everyone, and it doesn't matter who they are. I would never let anyone talk badly about another person in front of me.
Speaker: You know, like, hey, I don't, I want to hear you. Like, I don't, I don't believe you. Like, I don't, I don't think about that person in that way. Even when I was seven, I was seven years old. This is a crazy story. It's like all the kids, that like we were living in, I think it was like Buffalo, New York or something like that.
Speaker: and all the neighborhood kids would get together and play sports after school and stuff and there was this kid that lived next to me that um his name was brian stewart no one liked him for some reason even at that age remember thinking like what's wrong with you guys he's just another kid you know so one day all the group made this this hate paper i hate brian stewart and stuff and they put everyone's name and i had no idea what they were doing and i saw it and i was i saw my name on there i'm like cross my name off i don't hate him You know, I think put that paper in that kid's mailbox and the parents found out and they came over to me and they're like, why is Lee's name scratched off? And I was, you know, i had already told my parents and they, you know, my friend brian Stewart's parents were like, like, wow, you're a really good guy. You know, I was like, why are you hating on somebody?
Speaker: You know, it's like, everyone's a human. Everyone does stuff for different reasons. Like, even down to like, well, now I have a Tesla itself drives, but people, when they would cut me off, I'd always think like, dude, you have no idea. Maybe they just got a text, like, you know, their mom is in trouble or like, you know, it's like, you know, whatever I got going on, you know, it's like, I know in my heart, no matter what I'm doing, I can take a few more minutes.
Speaker: Yeah. And assuming, and assuming right? Assuming the best. heidi Heidi, my wife and I, we we talk about that a lot, that um that man, if if as you engage with people and the challenges that happen when you when you're someone who's committed to relationships, that when when something that's hard or difficult, actually the first starting point is to assume the best, not to assume the worst. Right.
Speaker: It really does help to frame my heart as I protect my heart, you know to go, okay, I'm going to assume the best, and that's going to be my starting point for engaging with this person, not assuming the worst. And you really and no we really modeled that. hey Just a ah as ah as a curiosity footnote here,
Speaker: you've talked about moving around a lot. What, what was the, what was the reason for, for why your family moved around a lot? And, and how did you, how did you process that? of gone, okay, we're going to move to a different spot. How did you, how'd you process that as a kid?
Speaker: Oh, that's interesting. Cause we did move around a lot. My dad, he was an engineer, you know, and then, you know, a scientist with engineering and background. And, you know, he started in New York. So it's like, You know, i was born right around New York City.
Speaker: My dad was working for, ah like, in the Twin Towers, actually, at that time. And, you know, he worked I think he worked for the government at that point for designing, like, electronics for F-14 or something like that.
Speaker: And then ah then he ended up working for Kodak. And, he you know, so we moved to, like, so this is all before I was, like, four. But I think we moved to, like, New England. We were somewhere in New England for, like, months And then like that's where like my brother was born.
Speaker: They were like upstate New York. Yeah, I remember moving from... ah We were in Rochester at one point. I think I was like five years old. I don't know how I remember this. Other people of my age say, like I can't remember crap.
Speaker: But I was five years old. We were about to move from Rochester to Michigan or Buffalo one of those. But my mom bought us like these coloring books from the store. And it was about moving.
Speaker: and ah you know And even at that age, I remember like you would fill out some stuff. and out like And I remember I i like picked up the vibe from that book, was like like trying to be like, it's okay. it's ah And I remember thinking like,
Speaker: I didn't have a problem. It's like, it's like an, you know, so after we moved once, you know, we were like, you know, every time it was like, um I'm leaving my friends. That sucks. But, you know, it's like that also showed me it's like, you know, friends come and go. And that, you know, at this point in my life, I had some good adult friends and then this happened to me and they can't be my friend anymore. They won't treat me friendly.
Speaker: You know, so, you know, you learn like friends come and go. That's not the important thing. Even about school. You know, I used to tell my nephews when they were growing up, like you don't go like You'll make friends at school, but that's not the point. i was like yeah You're supposed to learn.
Speaker: the I think there there are a lot of advantages to moving around. I moved around a lot growing up, and it's it can be great to live in one place the whole time. I think that's great. I think I've i had a lot of benefits from just exactly what you're saying. you know Moving around, you kind of get used to making friends, and and ah and that that can be that can be a great thing. um so I wanted to ask you this, just because i think about how we connected with you and everything that you've said about you know, have, it's hard to find friends. It's hard to know who you can trust.
Speaker: And it's just, why, why did you trust me? Because I came out of nowhere. i don't have any followers. Oh, this is a great, this is a great question. Malibu, I've got a sketchy social, I don't do social media really. I don't even have any posts. If you went to my page, there's nothing on the, on the grid.
Speaker: but you know rush and rush could either be rush could either be like professor or he could look like you know like a drug dealer you know it's like that he's got a little he could go both ways but So dude, why did you, why did you trust, why did you trust me? and why did you jump in on like talking to two strangers when we told you there's no way to know what we're going to talk about? Yeah. Well, you guys seem really genuine in the way you talk to me.
Speaker: Like, you know, to me, it didn't seem like you had like ulterior motives and you know, this is just going back to what you asked me earlier. Like, um you know, like what do I do to like, you know,
Speaker: like kind of treat everyone the same way and stuff. And, you know, I always start out like, I'm going to give them, give people the benefit of the doubt. Like, I'm not going to trust them after they earned it. I'm going to trust you until you show me.
Speaker: I'm not, I shouldn't trust you. Oh man. it's like, i' could you you know, it's like, I'll keep loving you for like, people ask me like, what, you know, what do you, how do you feel about your haters? Like, dude, I love you. It's like, I don't, I was like,
Speaker: I don't know why you hate me, but I love you. Like, if you get to know me, I'll get to know you. You know, it's like, you probably have a reason for hating me. You know, hopefully you can heal from that. But, you know, it's like, I'm a good guy. i would love to meet anybody who hates me and, you know, throw it out or something. You know, it's like...
Speaker: But, you know, so but people like actually turned around from hating me to liking me and they admitted like, Hey, you know, I jumped on the hate train because I like to do that. like i like I like to do that online. It actually makes me feel good. And I'm like,
Speaker: So in a way it's like, okay, so like I'm literally helping the haters by giving them something to hate, I guess. You know, like like I said before, like people are going to hate you no matter what.
Speaker: But yeah, you know, I'll give people the benefit of the diet. You want to be my friend? Let's go. Let's try We do want to be your friend now, boo. This is great. that and you and you showed it And you showed that to us. You showed that to us. and that just been Again, it's so wonderful right to be able to go, hey, that people are people are more than what they do. They aren't defined by what they do. They're defined by who they are. And then who they are gets expressed in what they do. And I think you've really you've really modeled that ah for us today.
Speaker: Yeah, I know. like i um I actually have a lot of friends who are vets. I'll meet them at the gym and stuff. and like even you know it's like i only did five years, you know and like some people did even less than that.
Speaker: and um It seems like the military is their whole personality. and it's like I love helping those guys. like Dude, move on, bro. like you know like life's Life's not like it is in the military. like People are not going to make fun of you just because they know you.
Speaker: You know, it's like, you don't have to look jaded. There's no threats. You know, it's like, you know, yeah the military, it's like, dude, military, ah you know, I like to call my military friends. Cause it's like, I think you're friends just cause you have to be there with each other. You know?
Speaker: Like it's this huge culture of like being negative. that You know, they're like, Oh, you know, we, we just talk crap all the time. I was never a part of that. aid I hated that. i was like, I don't, I don't jump on the hate train about stuff.
Speaker: you know I don't criticize stuff to the point where it's like trying to get other people to not go see this movie just because I hate it. And I was like, just relax. Hey, let me and let me do this. and we You've been so generous with your time and we're coming we're coming to the we're coming to the end of the end of our time together because we we certainly, you know i mean, we're not horseback riding or anything, but you know we want to be thoughtful of your time. You've been so generous. So maybe as as we close, um if you don't mind,
Speaker: yeah I see ah that there are a lot of tattoos there. Would you be willing to share with us what those what those tattoos are and and what ah what they mean to you? Yeah, this one this one's my favorite one right here because my brother and he covered his up now because he covered it his entire body, but him and I got the same one. like He got this one first, he joined the army, and then I joined the army a couple months later.
Speaker: and um he had been home at the time, so the guy literally traced his tattoo, and I got the same one right here. Oh, it's you And it's your brother and your sister?
Speaker: Yes. Yeah. I have a brother and have a sister. Yes. And then are you older? you younger? Where are you in the, where are you in the work chart? My brother's one year younger and then my sister's four years younger than me. all right all right first born first yeah first born yeah that's right it's right yeah it was cool and then i got this one was just this is the military police cross because um yeah well it's like you know you get addicted when you're in right and this was like the cross flag a lot of guys just get that and uh and these are all like like this one's from like 19
Speaker: nineteen id 2000 or something it was like in the right there and uh this one's like 15 years old same with this one and then i have this giant one let's see if i can get let me see it stand up stand up show me what we got it's on my leg though there cowboy boots look at you oh yeah dude we had the whole fit going today the whole thing yeah yeah ah wow this one what is that i can't see it what is it Here, let me take my boot and sock off. Okay, there we go. Yeah, we got to see this thing. Let me get to look here.
Speaker: Yeah, so it just it goes down onto my foot. Holy moly. That's a big one. That one I liked. It was cool. And but yeah, it is a big one. That's why we did it. it was um I was on this protective service team in the army.
Speaker: And so that was that was cool because um I was not a CID officer and I was elected and I got to be on this team for like a year and a half. It was sweet. Cool. And we travel a lot.
Speaker: So like we're in Washington, D.C., and we had, like, turned out we had, like, a week off. You was cool. And the government's done just in, you know, in D.C. The bus took a week off. So we're just, like, staying in, I think it was, like, oh Crystal City Marriott or something. It was a great one. This was, like, 20 years ago, so I don't know if it's there still. But this first night, we're, like, or no, actually, it was, like,
Speaker: It was like near the end of the break because I got the the first stage of this tattoo. They did. Well, no, we went to, um it was like, oh, we went to Maryland, got the outline.
Speaker: And then we're like, you know, got big tattoos and you fill them in. And it took like two more trips. But near the end of that first week, they filled in the um the first half from the knee to the ankle. And it was like the last day we had off.
Speaker: So we're like, we went to this ah expensive place. it was the only one around our hotel called Tattoo Paradise. Tattoo paradise. Who doesn't want to get a tattoo at Tattoo Paradise? Sounds great. Sounds sanitary. Yeah.
Speaker: thats the way So i was like, didn't even think about this. But then so I wake up the next morning. We have to run, like literally run with the boss to the gym, just like quarter mile. And I stood up and I was like, my calf felt like it was going to explode.
Speaker: Oh, yeah. Oh, i was like sure. no that you But I just fought through the pain. But yeah, we were when we were designing it, we're like, we're all going to get big tattoos. And i was like, OK, I'll just get one from like my knee onto my foot. How about that? Oh, man, that's yeah that big.
Speaker: Malibu, maybe one last quick question. You are on a kind of social media express train to popularity. And we're just curious, where, where's this train going in your mind? Like you're in the middle of it, you're riding this wave, but you know, all waves come to an end.
Speaker: what What do you see happening in the next five years? What's your big objective, your big master plan? Yeah. Well, I just like, you I just, uh, drop my personal training app. Cause like, I never want to stop training people. I love helping people with meal plans, training plans, and just inspiring them every day. Like to just go work out, man. You know, it's like, you know, if you want to look, you want to look like this takes a lot more work, but if you just want to be fit, that's, it's not a hard thing, you know, but so I want to keep doing that. But now that I have all these new opportunities, I always wanted to give acting a shot.
Speaker: Yeah, I can see that. i could tell You should do that. I can see that. Acting or wrestling, dude. Oh, yeah. yeah it's l w Yeah. That's both. Wow. That'd be fun. lot of people who don't know who i am will come up to me and they're like, they they probably saw me. and they So they're like, I think i like you're a wrestler, right? i get that a lot. yeah And I'm like, no, I'm wrestler. And they're like, what do you do? I'm like, you probably just saw me on your phone. Yeah.
Speaker: We're going to keep an eye out for you, Malibu. We're going to keep an eye out where you end up because we really are grateful that you spent this time with us today. and what What was it you were talking me at first about? I thought you guys were talking to me about like um Japan or something.
Speaker: No, no, no. That wasn't us. I don't think so. Okay. But maybe maybe maybe we can hear about that sometime. That sounds cool. Yeah. Yeah. love to talk about it. Oh, yeah, dude. like Yeah, because the whole Japan thing, like right now it feels like every influencer just went to Japan. Oh, yeah. You wonder what? i had four I had four friends this last year that went to Japan.
Speaker: the the The exchange rate is really great. It's a great experience. The food's delicious. The culture is kind. Yeah. Yeah. they That's like, that's the new hotness right now.
Speaker: Yeah, dude. We get, Yeah, like I swear you guys are asking me about Japan because like all my influencer friends like went to Japan in the last two months. Oh, serious?
Speaker: but i didn't That's why it's because the yen is so weak now. The dollar's gone. yeah, yeah, yeah. yeah yeah my People are heading out there. I tell you what, I want to go. So if Rush and I go, we might hit you up and maybe we'll meet somewhere. You know what i mean? What's wrong with that be? A tree. Oh, dude. Could you imagine? that We're eating sushi out in the middle Nowheresville in Japan.
Speaker: go you I went to high school there and then college also. Oh, that's right. You went to college there too? No way. Yeah, that's right. swear it was like in the ah DMs. You were just asking me about that like two days ago.
Speaker: or not maybe maybe for next time me next time i hope i i really i genuinely mean this i hope that this uh that this isn't the last time that that we bump into you again it's just been such such a real delight to just meet and to be with somebody in the present And certainly the way that we were able to connect were the things on social media, but I think the thing I speak for Rush and I, the thing that really connected with us was the chance for us just to spend some time with you.
Speaker: So thanks so much for being on the show, man. I appreciate it. your One last bonus. like If I became a wrestler and had a signature move, what do you think you should be called? oh this is a great question we can't screw this up think wait honestly the first thing the first thing that comes to mind yeah is that you name it you name it after you that it would be the malibu okay the like that's it i was like i was telling someone i think it's it that it's a move it's a move and it's just it's a move and it's the it's the malibu it's the malibu it could be like mash maybe yes the mouth of mash yeah
Speaker: That sounds awesome. Yes. Devastating. Yeah. Malibu, we hope that you'll keep us updated on what's going on on your adventures and you know shoot us a text anytime, for real. If we can do something for you. Absolutely, man. We'd love to stay in touch with you just as just as friends, as people. It'd be awesome. now If you want to tell your followers too, write in my bio, you can get like my merch.

Speaker: Thank you guys. i'm super grateful to be able to be on here. Love you guys. you're You're so fun. Let's do it again.
Speaker: What a guy. What a joyful joy machine. Gee whiz. It just goes to prove the point, right? That it's like people are not simply defined by what they do.
Speaker: Hmm. But it really is it really is who they long to be and who they are in their heart and to think it through. And I think here's a guy who's, I mean, it's so interesting, right? I mean, obviously he he thinks a lot about the outer man and the body.
Speaker: but he really does he really does care a lot about who he is and and wanting wanting that to be a very very positive thing. think wants the world to be a real positive. He does, yeah. He's got a positive vibe. And it also shows, too, that if there's something that you love and enjoy, that the completion of that joy is when other people get to share in it.
Speaker: you know that That if you just have something that you enjoy, it the completeness of that joy is when other people get to experience that. And obviously the the platform of of fitness and that that's meant a lot to him that he's able to kind of complete that. And man, I loved your question on why why did you why did you connect with us? Because again, it's like,
Speaker: You have everything. but His whole experience has been rough. You know, his experience has been rough with just the way he described it and other things that he's talked about. And so it's interesting.
Speaker: and And it's again, this is another, you've said this a bunch of times on other episodes, but just being able to watch him open up and get relaxed. Like everybody's a little uptight at the start, but just right at the end, I mean, he we could have talked, he would have kept talking for another 45 minutes.
Speaker: I genuinely love meeting all these people and and getting the opportunity to do this. So, yeah, that was a blast today.
