Introduction to 'Once Upon a Decom'
00:00:00
Speaker
Hello and welcome to Once Upon a Decom, the podcast where we rave and sometimes roast Disney Channel original movies. I'm Gabby and I'm here with my friend Natalie. How are you today? I am fantastic. I am so ready to talk about what we are going to talk about today.
Mini-episodes Between Seasons
00:00:15
Speaker
Me too. So if you're new here, I just want you to know that this is not our regularly scheduled programming. Typically, we host a podcast where Natalie and I will watch a Disney Channel original movie.
00:00:25
Speaker
maybe one that we've seen before, maybe a new one. And we talk about the plot, the deeper themes, where the actors are now, and what the critics think. It's a great time. But we're currently in between seasons one and two, taking a little break for the holidays. So we are giving you these mini-sodes, if you will, talking about some other fun content related to Disney Channel.
Disney Channel Movie Oscars Discussion
00:00:46
Speaker
So so far, we have ranked the movies that we've watched so far into tiers. That was really fun, right, Natalie? Week one. It was so much fun.
00:00:54
Speaker
Oh, my gosh. Guys, listen to that episode. A hundred percent. It's so funny. Then last week we had part one of the Disney Channel original movie Oscars where we handed out a few awards and honorable mentions to some of our actors and movies. And we're going to be coming back for part two of the Oscars next week.
Favorite Disney Channel TV Shows
00:01:12
Speaker
But today we are showing some love to the Disney Channel TV shows that we never get to talk about on the channel. So we're just going to venture back down memory lane and talk about what our favorite shows were and why they were our favorite shows. And I just want to remind you guys, if you're someone who only listens on audio, we've got a fun little visual component happening on the YouTube channel. So if you wouldn't mind heading over there, if you're interested, we'd love for you to check it out at One Spawn a Decom on YouTube. Yeah.
00:01:40
Speaker
All right, should I start? I think you should, yeah.
Spotlight on 'Kim Possible'
00:01:43
Speaker
Okay, we don't have to spend too much time on this one um because we have reviewed a movie version of this television show. But my, and I'll be all, favorite Disney Channel show of all time has to be Kim Possible. Of course it is. All right, yes. yeah Why? i I watched this all the time as a kid. I loved the characters, I loved like Kim and Ron individually, but like I loved all of the side characters, all of the villains. It's funny. It's got action. It has good themes. And honestly, like I just wanted to be Kim. Aw, that's so sweet.
00:02:22
Speaker
I barely watched the show growing up. I watched it, but not that much. And to be honest with you, I was not into cartoons unless it was Avatar the Last Airbender, which is Nickelodeon. So that one's not on my list. So I'm glad it's on yours because it is really, really good. And like we've talked about it a million times. Will Friedl is Incredible. No notes. He's perfect. yeah Voice over unstoppable. He is awesome. so Go listen to our episode about the Kim Possible movie if you want more info there, but that's where we will leave Kim. What was your number one, Gabby?
Debate: 'Hannah Montana'
00:02:55
Speaker
so My number one most favorite Disney Channel show growing up was Hannah Montana. and I know that's a bit basic, but I mean, okay, rude. I was nice about yours.
00:03:09
Speaker
You can keep your comments to yourself if you don't like it. That's fine to each their own. For me, this is my most nostalgic show because I was fully invested in every episode. I've seen the whole show through like at least three times. I know every episode, it was iconic. I watched it all the time.
00:03:28
Speaker
The Jobros appeared on it. I lost my freaking mind. And I was so emotional when she revealed that she was Miley to the world. It was just a whole thing. And like, I even remember trying to explain to my relatives at Christmas, like the Miley Miley thing, they were like, wait, her name is Miley, but like, it's not her. And I was like, well, she's playing character named Miley, who is very similar to her, but it's not her. And it was just like, I don't know. I just have very fond memories of the show. It was like my all my everything for a whole season there. So yes, I love that for you.
00:03:57
Speaker
Thanks. I did not like that show growing up and I never, I don't think I ever saw a complete episode because I thought she was so annoying. Wow. Well, let's move on because you're hurting my heart. No, I'm so sorry. Just kidding. Okay. No, it's fine. I understand it's not everyone's cup of tea. I just loved it. No, listen, everyone's going to agree with you and not agree with me, so that's okay. Okay. Okay. Next up, your second favorite.
Fond Memories of 'Phil of the Future'
00:04:24
Speaker
My second favorite was Phil of the Future. Do you remember that one?
00:04:29
Speaker
I thought I was so unique that's my third favorite oh my gosh I love that show I cannot believe you brought that up I thought you were gonna be like oh I forgot about that one when I brought it up oh never forget oh my god that's so great talk about romance the two of them I shipped so hard My literal notes in my project management says, I was shipping the main two character romance so hard in all caps. So hard. The yearning, oh my gosh. It's so perfect. Phil and Keely forever. Yes. They needed a movie. They do need a movie. Why the heck haven't they had one? Because the ending kind of sucked. Yeah.
00:05:13
Speaker
Again, a show with great characters, so much fun, so much shenanigans. And I thought the guy who played Phil, I'm sorry, I don't know the actor's name, but he was just a delight. He was. I don't remember this one as well as my other two, but like it was so quirky and fun. I loved the concept and like the family struggle to fit in. I love seeing all of the future technology and culture from the future. like It just was so enjoyable.
00:05:39
Speaker
It was such a great concept. I remember thinking the caveman was funny, although I think looking back, I'm like, maybe that part was stupid. I'd have to rewatch and see how I feel about the caveman. I mean, same. ah Remembering it, having not seen it in probably two decades, thought it was great.
00:05:55
Speaker
Yes, yes, same. Okay, so that was my third favorite, but that was your second favorite. That was my second. So tell me what your second is.
Revisiting 'The Suite Life of Zack and Cody'
00:06:02
Speaker
My middle one, yes. So I hope you don't make fun of me. You probably will. My second favorite Disney Channel... Rude. My second favorite Disney Channel show is The Suite Life of Zack and Cody. That's my third. Oh my gosh. We're so friends.
00:06:23
Speaker
Will you be the Glinda to my Elphaba? I'm Elphaba, please. You're Glinda. That's 100% accurate. Anyways, not the sweet life on deck though. I want to be very clear. Correct. Correct. okay The regular sweet life. Yes. Tell me your reasoning and then I'll tell you mine. Oh, I don't know if I have reasoning.
00:06:42
Speaker
I think it's again, one of those things where like all the characters were great. The shenanigans were always funny. um I loved the boys playing off of each other. I feel like they were just obviously they're great together because they're actually brothers. But like, right you know, it's just, they know each other so well and they mess with each other so well in that show. Yeah, I don't know.
00:07:03
Speaker
Yeah, I agree. My thing was the characters are so iconic and just really well developed and written. There's such a great variety of characters and I thought just the writing was very creative with what they did with the hotel, having guests and events as you have your consistent people.
00:07:19
Speaker
who work there but then there's like always something new and exciting something fresh coming in and i just thought it was hilarious like there's so many lines ah we talked about this in an an episode like i still quote today the like do you mean the prindle like little me back from perry Yeah, there's just so much good to it. um I loved the mom. I thought she really grounded the show. i I literally made a note about the mom too. She was so good. She was the DCOM mom. Yes, she was great. And she wasn't stupid. like She was incredibly intelligent, but also willing to give the boys some space and like let them go crazy.
00:08:00
Speaker
Mr. Mosby, iconic, Esteban. Esteban. And Arwen. Arwen, so good. He was my favorite. I adored him. He was great. And also, just as a side note, I loved the online pizza game that you could play, where you could run through and collect pizza. Yes! So ah diezo great. Do y'all remember the games that were on DisneyChannel.com? Because I loved them.
00:08:28
Speaker
That and the Avatar the Last Airbender game in the trees was like my jam every day. But that's not Disney, so that doesn't belong on this podcast. Accurate, but it does though, because it's the best show ever made. Just going to throw that out there. i will There's a number one for all shows of all time, Avatar the Last Airbender animated edition, Chef's Kiss. I want to know where I can play the Sweet Life of Zack and Cody pizza one.
00:08:52
Speaker
Ooh, that would be really fun. We should find that. If anyone knows, drop a link. Mm hmm. Help us out here.
Episode Conclusion and Social Media Shoutout
00:08:59
Speaker
All right. Those are our favorite Disney Channel TV shows. And to no one's surprise, I guess, except for ours, two of them were the same. Wow. I really didn't think it was going to be that way. I thought you were going to say Raven, because that's probably my fourth. I did watch that a lot as a kid. I don't think it was a favorite.
00:09:19
Speaker
yeah It was one of those ones that I've seen every episode, but I wouldn't count it as a favorite. i To this day, I'm afraid I'm going to have a snake like in my bed because of the opening sequence from That's So Raven. There's like a giant python slithering towards her parents, and it just scarred me as a child in a way I can't describe. and To this day, I'm like, that's how I'm going to die. Yeah, bring that up in therapy.
00:09:48
Speaker
Probably should. Oh goodness. Well, thank you all for listening to this episode. Let us know some of your favorite Disney Channel TV shows in the comments or on our social channels. Next week, we are going to be back with another minisode.
