Hello and welcome to Once Upon a Decom, the podcast that takes you on a nostalgic journey through your favorite Disney Channel original movies. My name is Natalie and this is my co-host Gabby. Hello. You're listening to one of our mini-sodes. We have wrapped season one so you can listen to all of those delightful episodes now where we discuss some of our favorite and our released favorite Disney Channel original movies. We talk about the plot, where the stars are now, and so much more. But onto today's mini-episode.

Oscars Theme for Disney Channel Movies

00:00:28
Speaker
We're at the Oscars, y'all. Did you get the memo? Who are you wearing? I'm in my ball gown from Dior. Yes, I love it. All right. Gabby, can you explain how we're conquering this episode? Yes. so Just like you have at the Oscars, we have some categories that we have nominated movies from the episodes that we've already watched into. We're going to share with you our thoughts on our nominations and then pick for four categories today. and Then in two weeks, we're going to come back and do a part two with four more categories.
00:00:56
Speaker
And this is just a quick reminder that for all of these mini episodes, we are going to have a little visual component going on over on the YouTube channel. So if you're someone who's only listened with audio so far, that's fine. But if you've ever been curious and want to check it out on our YouTube channel at onespana.com, we've got some fun little pictures and visuals going on for you just for these four mini-sodes. So are you ready for the categories, Natalie?
00:01:18
Speaker
I am.

Award Categories Announcement

00:01:19
Speaker
Okay. Today we are going to be picking best actress, best actor, best of a villain, and best romance. And again, I want to reiterate, this is only from the movies that we've covered so far on the podcast. So there's probably a ton of other great candidates and nominations in movies we haven't seen yet. Maybe we'll do this again in the future. Who's to say? Yeah. So, Natalie, can you please tell us what movies we've watched so far? Sure. So, this is what we're picking from, everybody. We have watched the Lizzie McGuire movie, High School Musical, Xenon Girl of the 21st Century, Cadet Kelly, Smart House, Camp Rock, Under Wraps, Zombies, Twitches, Mom's Got a Date with a Vampire, Halloweentown, You Wish, exclamation point.

Kim Possible movies sow the drama, Go Figure, Stuck in the Suburbs, Radio Rebel, The Cheetah Girls, and Lemonade Mouth. It's been such a fun first season. Oh my gosh. Just hearing it like that gets me so excited for season two and all the potentials. I know. We got some bangers on that list. For real. We really hit it out of the

park. And just so you guys know, on the show, typically we will have a randomizer pick the episode that we're going to watch next. So we don't actually set that up ahead of time. It's fun every week. It's like an Easter egg, what we're going to get. Oh, yeah.
00:02:34
Speaker
But let's dive in to best actress. Who have you brought to nominate? Okay, for this one I have two. I have nominated Bridgette Mendler as Olivia in Lemonade Mouth. Same. Okay. Yep, yep, yep, yep.
00:02:49
Speaker
And I have nominated Brenda Song as Natasha in Stuck in the Suburbs. And I do have one that I think is the clear winner. Okay. I've also nominated Bridget Menler as Olivia in Lemonade Mouth. And then I have Kimberly J. Brown as Marnie in Halloweentown. I knew you were going to pick her. She's so authentic.
00:03:11
Speaker
She is. Okay. But I feel like, I mean, I feel like we both picked Bridget. So it has to be Bridget, right? I guess that's how it technically works. I feel like Brenda did a better job than Bridget personally. I think Kimberly did a better job. Okay. So then we'll just, we'll just be nice to each other and say it's Bridget as Olivia in Lemonade Mouth. Way to go, Bridget. Yes, queen doctor, Meddler, everyone. If you want to know more about that, you got to listen to that episode.
00:03:42
Speaker
Yeah, she's cool.

Best Actor Award Discussion

00:03:43
Speaker
Okay, best actor. I'm very interested to see who you put for this. and Okay, I have two nominations. My first nomination is Adam Wiley as Gilbert in Under Raps.
00:03:55
Speaker
It's a little nerdy kid. Oh my gosh. Okay. yeah Wow. Bringing it back. I'm glad you brought him into it. Yeah. ah He was a little sweetheart. um And then my second nomination I have is Will Friedel as Ron Stoppable. And I know he was voice acting, but I think we can all agree it was some incredible voice acting.
00:04:15
Speaker
Uh-huh. A hundred percent. Okay. So I actually have three. Okay. And I just want to say that I think we both made an error. We should have nominated, I don't remember her name, but the, the little actress in under wraps for best actress as a little girl. Yeah. She was pretty freaking good. Yeah. I feel like that was a missed opportunity. Sorry. That was a snub accidental snub. Yep. Yep. Okay.
00:04:41
Speaker
My three, I have Ryan Merriman, who is Ben Cooper in Smart House, the main character. I also have Will Friedle as Ron Stoppable. Yeah, you do. From Kim Possible. And then I have Mario Yedidia, who was Marshall in Under Wraps. Yes, all three of those are solid choices.
00:05:03
Speaker
Yes. Yes. And if you listened to our last mini-sode, we talked about this a bit. Under Wraps, while not a movie, either of us feels like we need to see again, is a really well done movie. It is. It's great. And it comes down to like those child actors are fantastic. Yeah. So we each have a child actor from Under Wraps. We both have Will Friedle. And then I added Ryan from Smart House because that scene where he's crying over his mom. I just a heartbreaker. Yeah. i h
00:05:34
Speaker
Do we need to go with Will because we're he's on both our lists? I think so because he has the emotion, the comedy, and he's doing it without showing his face. I agree. Will, here's your Oscar that you have deserved for many years, let's be honest.
00:05:48
Speaker
Congratulations, Will. Okay, best villain.

Best Villain Award Discussion

00:05:51
Speaker
I only have one. There is a clear and definite winner in this for me. Okay, wait, wait, wait. Because I have three. So let me go first and we will see if yours is on my list. Okay. First, I have not a true villain, but an antagonistic force. So at the very least, she needs to be an honorable mention. Okay. Miss Ungermeyer in the Lizzie McGuire movie.
00:06:14
Speaker
Yes, I was thinking she might be on your list. like like i I have no words. She's so good. If there was just a category for funniest, most memorable, but also awful, greatest character, nostalgic everything, she would win. Oh, she'd win. Yeah, hands down. Hands down. She falls into so many categories we don't have. That's true. Nomination 2, it's a combo. Draken and Shigo from the Kim Possible movie. Okay, sure. Yeah, because I feel like they are just such a good duo together. The comedy, the drama, it's solid.
00:06:53
Speaker
who and who Is that your third or? That's my second, yes. My last nomination, which I think might be your one, is Shar-Pei from High School Musical. No, that's not who I have. What? Okay, who's your nomination? I see Shar-Pei as more of the antagonistic force than the villain. Okay, okay, okay. Which you used for Ms. Ungermeyer, I'm using your words. She is a villain.
00:07:21
Speaker
Absolutely floored that you didn't immediately pick Frederick Coffin as Parker Winham in Xenon. Oh. He is true evil in a realistic form. He is. He's not the best villain because he's like the most enjoyable to watch villain, but he's the best villain because he's the most evil. He's definitely most evil.
00:07:44
Speaker
Yeah, and that's what I was going for. If it was best like I enjoy watching them be evil, then I think I would pick ah Dragon and Shigo or Miss Ungermeyer. Where do we want to go from here then? I guess we have to pick what best villain means. What what does it mean? To me, best villain is like <unk> the same as best actor and best actress. It's like, what did we enjoy the most? Who did the best job doing the role?
00:08:08
Speaker
But the role of villain means true evil, yes? Or does it mean like comedic enjoyment in a satirical, sarcastic way? I guess it's up to artist interpretation. Well, maybe we have two. Most evil villain, can we agree, was Parker Windham. Oh, yes. He was the worst. Okay. So of your three, let's pick a favorite like silly villain. Okay. I mean, it's got to be Mrs. Ungermeyer, right?
00:08:35
Speaker
I agree with you on that. She's just so good. ah yeah She's the most fun to watch. She's definitely getting in the way. he is Delightful. Okay. Look at that, a shared prize. All right, the final one, the white whale.

Best Romance Award Discussion

00:08:54
Speaker
The most lovey-dovey, best romance. i know I know you feel strongly about this category, so would you like to go first?
00:09:04
Speaker
Okay, I put two, ah but I have a clear favorite. Okay, I have three with a clear favorite. Okay, okay. I have nominated Kim and Ron from Kim Possible Movie, and I have nominated Tara and Gavin from Radio Rebel.
00:09:22
Speaker
or you what Natalie, Gordo and Lizzie? But it's not a it was not a true romance. That was the problem. It's the one we wanted more of. But we didn't get enough. It's the most palpable. We didn't get enough. I put Gordo and Lizzie as my clear favorites because even though it's not fully satisfying, their story, their friendship, like unbelievable. And you just want it so badly.
00:09:54
Speaker
I do, but it's not um it's not a romance if there's not a satisfying ending. And everything they're up against? Okay, whatever. And then I also have Tara, Gavin, Kim, and Ron. Yeah. And Kim and Ron is the clear winner, right? Obviously. Tara and Gavin from Radio Rebel, it's mainly just Gavin. That actor was so good at making you love him. Oh, 100%. He's fantastic. But it's Kim and Ron, right? At the end of the day, it's Kim and Ron.
00:10:24
Speaker
yeah That movie is untouchable. That was a great category from last week. It just is so perfect. Okay, so Wilfredo's showing up a lot on in here. Good for him. He's like the wicked of these Oscars.
