Speaker: Welcome to the good GM's podcast. I'm E. Morris. And today's episode is death claw becomes her. And now here's Chuck and James and James.

Speaker: Oh, and me.

Speaker: Hello and welcome to a special episode of Good GM's podcast. um I am your host, James Curry, and my co-host is here as well, who goes by the name of... Chuck E.T. Hey, hey, hey.

Speaker: How's it going? Pretty good. How's it going for you? We're doing something special. We are. I'm excited. I i really enjoyed the last the last session. um I was like you know looking looking over the notes and she was like, oh yeah, that's right. I forgot I did that. Oh my gosh, yes. and um So the other day, I almost choked on a popcorn kernel.

Speaker: And um as a result, I'm going to have the hardest time doing Matt Berry's voice for very long, but I'll do my best for a today. um I don't know if you want to do, James, you're here with us and we have a special guest who you might recognize the voice of.

Speaker: um But James, do you want to do a recap with us? or Recap. Last time we played Fallout, we were in Gob's Saloon in Megaton, years after the events of Fallout 3. Right.

Speaker: ah Where Petey Redwing and his trusty Mr. Handy Westmoreland have been sent to the town to foster a trade deal between Megaton and Vault 101. And it was successful and now we're headed home, yes?

Speaker: Not so much. No. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Annoyed Godtholomew at the bar, getting absolutely nowhere to the point where you were you were looking to leave the bar and and talk to the villagers, but discovered that the play area did not include the rest of the town. You were stuck in the bar. had to load the next map.

Speaker: So you went up to talk to a grizzled mercenary who was taking shelter in the bar. It happened to be Shiloh. Who is going to be played by our a good friend. Introduce yourself there, sir.

Speaker: Hi there. I'm E.E. Morris. You might know me from such great introductions such as, well, this show. There you Thanks. and And you're also just, again, might as well throw some plugs out there. you on another podcast series of some kind or?

Speaker: Absolutely. i take part weekly in the wonderful joyous adventures on our YouTube and ah other podcast provider services known as Savage Sessions.

Speaker: Yes. We are Radio Salad Studios on the YouTubes. That's right. For all your YouTube bike lessons and role playing game needs. sounds with Radio Salad Studios.

Speaker: Yeah, it's a great mix of a bunch of great stuff that somebody ought to find a good deal. Hot hot hot sauce reviews at one point. it was It was good times. Good times. Oh, yeah, absolutely. Thank you for joining.

Speaker: Absolutely. i don't want to be pigeonholed by anything. Shiloh is ah a grizzled mercenary who took a job just north of here, ah ferrying goods that that caravan was ambushed.

Speaker: ah Shiloh and her fellow guards ah ah sent to away the bandits who started that ambush, but unfortunately that drew Deathclaws. uh injuring her killing all of her companions and leaving that loot in the middle of the wasteland shiloh has nothing to show for it but a broken arm which i have fixed without problem westmoreland the robot claimed to fix the arm but has not shiloh has been informed she has a healed arm she does not have a healed arm tickety-boo

Speaker: And ah just about then, Petey Redwing felt his Vault 101 canteen be removed from his back pocket. That happened to come from a little bulbous robot named Kitchen Kit.

Speaker: a strange model of robot rarely seen in the wasteland known as a schlocket bot who proceeded to insult how poor he was. Very rude, bad programming. Just in the middle of that argument, a, a, a ah bomb smashed through the window and fell into the middle of the bar floor. It was one of those homemade lunchbox cap mines.

Speaker: Right. Uh, Scrambling was done to to get to that mine and defuse it. And during that scramble, a second mine came in.

Speaker: But it was all handled. And Gamtholomew has screamed the block. Sorry, it was all handled by, I missed that. Who defused those bombs? Please tell the listener which character it was that definitely defused those bombs.

Speaker: i think Westmoreland gave me that's right five threat, just handed me tons of points to use against the party to make sure these bombs go off.

Speaker: That's going to be awesome. So, Gauthal Emile has screamed from the bar that that it's it's the old Moriarty gang.

Speaker: they've They've come to knock him out and he'd do anything for any anyone who saved him in this moment. Hopefully somebody will come along. It was very nice to meet you, sir.

Speaker: I will spread the word far and wide. Now, if we could just have our caps. Right? Oh, my. Wes, I think he means us because that's what vultures do. We help society.

Speaker: Yes, you're right, sir. Don't sound so happy about this. Now get out there and save everyone. All right. So this is a demonstration of combat.

Speaker: So in the time we have, perhaps we should fast forward to that. I don't know how long combat will take. Unless you have several more scenes prepared leading up to this moment.

Speaker: No, it's it's pretty much ah from... So this is a two-tiered bar. Okay. That's up on scaffolding. Oh, it's all happening here. Megaton sits ah over a crater.

Speaker: Yes. And so you can see out the front windows of the saloon that there are five tufts. ah gangster type folks and they're being led by a shadowy figure just sort of out of view but the way they're moving in the shadows even though it's the middle of the day right um the way the five goons are sort of moving up to the bar you can see that they're being commanded by someone and so the bar is above them they're sort of coming up a hill

Speaker: toward the place. We have the high ground. Good. hu Luckily, this door doesn't open. um Oddly is enough, the door has a different sprite now. It's it's higher resolution and and clearly made of two pieces.

Speaker: Where before it was deeply pixelated. and i'm now able I'm now able to click on it. And yeah, it creates a. Oh, good Lord, Wes. It's a spawn point. Get ready. Okay. The least the game auto saves. Yes. That's good. That's good. um All right. So what is the. So I'm i'm down on the ground floor.

Speaker: I think that Gobtholomew was probably behind the bar down there. Yeah. um I know that Petey and Shiloh were on the second floor behind a table, if I remember correctly. As is Kitchen Kit. Oh, as is everybody's up there. Good. I'm glad. Don't worry, sir. I will be fodder.

Speaker: Now, the second floor extends all the way around. Yeah. So windows to the front exist on both floors. Can we bar the front door?

Speaker: Is that a good idea? No. Like, is there tables down here that we could, like, push in front of it? or Certainly. It's a fully stocked bar. It's a fully stocked bar. Perfect. So, in a Modiphius 2D20 system, initiative is usually not rolled. Okay.

Speaker: It is a combination of your perception and agility skills in Fallout. And so, oftentimes, overseers, GMs, have to be pretty thoughtful about what initiative they sign to bad guys and, and sort of how they set that very beginning of combat because the party's locked in.

Speaker: And if they have low initiative, they can feel quite robbed. Yes. Bad guys just wipe them out before they even get a turn. Right. Okay. So good, good GM advice. Thank you.

Speaker: I ran a hundred sessions of this game. Kitchen kit has the highest initiative of your group at 16.

Speaker: um Kitchen Kit immediately says, oh, no, I've heard terrible things about there this gang. And Miss Shiloh, your arm is terribly busted. Let's fix that first.

Speaker: um Kit pulls out a Stimpak, which in his little little robot hand, he's only about three and a half feet tall. somewhat bulbous and humanoid, um extends about longer than his face and without asking for permission, just stabs it into Shiloh's forearm.

Speaker: And with a hiss, ah the life-giving fluids run into her veins and somehow repair the bone in her left forehand instantly.

Speaker: What a waste. We should have saved that for after the fight. and Her arm was already fixed. Each character in combat gets one minor action and one major action. Kit has drawn a Stimpak with his minor and applied it with his major. He's done his turn. He's standing. home waste.

Speaker: Oh my God. PD Redwing. we are We are down to these like 10 second long moments. that the Combat is happening. three Two bombs have already come through the front window.

Speaker: You're standing on this this raised platform on the second floor of the bar. ah Draw my gun. i heard Wes say something about um trying to put up barricades or something. Now, and and the bombs have been defused.

Speaker: I think Westmoreland did yell that out. and so yeah So if I remember correctly how it ended, because I did, you said you wanted two successes to defuse one and I somehow or something like that. You needed a number and I got double that number. And instead of taking those action points, I said, would you would you let me say I defused both bombs simultaneously? And you said, you fine.

Speaker: Beautiful. Okay, yeah, so I'll draw my gun and ah run down and start trying to help with the barricades. Okay. um A move action is is not free in this game. A lot of games, they they separate different types of actions. For this, um a full sprint that will move you two zones is a major action and a a small move...

Speaker: that moves you one zone is a minor action. Zones abstract amounts of space. Depending on how cluttered or busy something is, depending on how easily maneuvered it is, the the zone kind of gets bigger. Okay. Is Petey doing a full sprint or sort of a careful move?

Speaker: Full sprint. Full sprint. Yeah, we're going down there. You could make it up to the windows at the front of the bar. Perfect. Perfect. All right, that's what we got going on. You look out. Yeah, I was going to say, can you anything? Of course he's going to spot, right? Or or or you're going to hold your head back to make sure there's no target sticking out.

Speaker: ah te What if they're naked? I'm sure that they are ruffians, but being a vaulter, they'll show me proper respect. So the rule of fair play is obviously engaged here. This is why Petey should never have been sent out to do this mission.

Speaker: And he's so yeah so he's up to the window and he's looking out. What you see is um the craterous shape of Megaton with all the junk scaffolding buildings around it. And there are yeah five ruffians, humans, armed with little sort of homemade pipe guns rushing up hold but towards you.

Speaker: And the figure leading them. You now get a good spot. And it's it's a pretty scary sight. because there is a full-grown 1,200-pound deathclaw wearing a tailored silk black jacket and black fedora, seemingly consciously pointing its clawed fingers in directions, and these goons are following them.

Speaker: oh hold on That, that does not seem right. What do you see, sir? I my studies, sir. Oh, that, that. No, no, that is incorrect. That has to be incorrect. Oh, God. Yeah. Perhaps they are naked.

Speaker: Petey gets this way when he sees naked people. I do, but that, mm, mm. We're gonna add something new to the list. Look at this. And it's so he, yeah, so he's telling West, you know, that there's ah theres there's ah someone dressed up like a deathclaw in very fancy garb leading the men. it has to It has to be it, because it could not possibly be a deathclaw. No, that's just, mm, add something new to the list. Add something new the list, West. Perhaps we should ween you off some of the chems, sir.

Speaker: Gob Tholomew overhearing this from the bar goes, oh no, it's even worse than I thought. Oh, it's Bobby Scratches. What the fuck? The leader of the Moriarty gang. He's a Deathclaw.

Speaker: What? He's a talking Deathclaw. What from the Enclave? who Oh, man. Okay. All right. a no Ain't no Enclave no more. There's just the the people who used to work for them. They got to do something. Bobby Scratch is loan shark.

Speaker: and but so alone I'm sorry. You said loan shark. you owe You owe money to a vastly intelligent Deathclaw. You owe money to this individual. Well, he's got money and he'll lend it to you.

Speaker: West, I believe you were correct when you said we should leave. But we're going to save these people. I just i just don't know how. When we get back.

Speaker: I will open the door and say, he's in here. no no, no, West. No, naughty, bad robot. Redwing drew his gun with a minor and moved sprinted up to the front door with his major. We get to Westmoreland.

Speaker: Yes. In the middle of the floor. Just grabbing all the, the but from the defused bombs, collecting all of the bottle caps and going, oh, man. Yeah.

Speaker: I wish I had a vacuum attachment. That would have been perfect. Okay. So I don't have any, I mean, I have, my weapons are unarmed and I have the flamethrower thing, but I don't have any like guns or anything. You have bottle cap mines in front of you. I do. Explosives. Can I, they're not grenades. No, but. Rearm them and throw them. Hell yeah.

Speaker: Yeah. Well, yeah. Can I, how, how hard would it be for me to rearm them? I mean, I know what took to easy to rearm them. Having them go off when you throw them is the hard part.

Speaker: Hmm. Adapting them into grenades is a big deal. That would take 15, 20 minutes. Well, and we have 10 second rounds, right? So um what about can I can I take some of the explosive parts out of them and use them somehow like.

Speaker: I don't want to damage the bar. Like, I mean, you had an hour to work on it. Yeah, no, exactly. Okay. Um, in that case, so, okay, no, so I will, I will go over and join PD and, uh, like in the direction where PD is and start like moving tables in front of the door. Okay. Cause that's what I said I was going to do.

Speaker: I'm going to say that you pull up some tables and you will add cover the official mechanic of cover. Um, Yeah. Let's say three dice worth. and Okay.

Speaker: And if you get shot at, then we'll figure out what that mechanic is. There you go. Westmoreland. I think that's pretty, a pretty major action to like pull up tables and throw it in front. I mean, if I'm able to like also get a look at what's outside, then fine. But that, I don't think i need to do anything else other than that.

Speaker: Sure. Absolutely. Yeah. Yeah. um The ah goons are moving in a very specific wedge formation. There's five. There's one coming right up to the front door.

Speaker: There's two ah pretty far apart coming up as a distant pair. And then behind them, there's another two coming up even further apart. Okay, sorry, there's... All a wedge.

Speaker: Right. Okay, sorry, how many were coming up to the front door? You said one? Just one. Just one, okay. And then two and two. Okay, got it. Who are they're probably predicting is going to have a bad day. Yeah. But they're risking it. He's the first penguin. He's the one that tells you whether there's a killer whale. All right.

Speaker: And Bobby Scratches is holding back. Yeah. Just watching. Mm-hmm, mm-hmm. All right, who's next? Next in line...

Speaker: is Bobby scratches himself. Uh-oh. And on his turn, he scratches himself. Shiloh. fascinating. Walka walka. Yeah, boy. All right. So ah how far away from the entrance that is being approached by these wonderful goons um is Shiloh?

Speaker: So I'm going to say that... On the second floor, if you want to go to the windows that face the invasion, that would be one zone. That would be a minor action's worth of movement.

Speaker: But if you wanted to go downstairs onto the floor where Westy and Petey are and make it all the way to the front door, that would be two zones worth and would take a major action. Okay, so I'm going to throw a dart here. Let's go for the minor action, go for the window. Okay, so you stay upstairs.

Speaker: And I have a Molotov cocktail that maybe if I could drop that on them. but Oh boy, yeah. I have a broken lighter, so that's curious.

Speaker: So in order to have a fully functioning Molotov cocktail, I have to have a fully functioning or at least an effective lighter, correct? Okay. Now, the way it always works in the video game is that you never see anyone like them. So let's assume there was some brand of liquor that came out in 2077. That the impact.

Speaker: Just had like a flint bottle cap. It's just really volatile. That just naturally sparks. um it it It actually reacts with air.

Speaker: Outstanding. so were anarchist Anarchist distillery didn't like where where America was going and so made a liquor that was... love it. love it.

Speaker: Right. new soium and a meatnier system yeah ah yeah So yeah, let's ah do the minor action to go into the window and the major action of trying to drop a Molotov cocktail on these puppies.

Speaker: Okay. That's an attack. I say there's the three first goons are sort of all within one zone that will be covered in flame. If this works. yeah So your attack for a Molotov is a perception explosives roll.

Speaker: Okay. So what do I have to do there? So you add your perception, which is five, to your explosives, which is zero. Okay.

Speaker: darn And that's what you have to roll on two dice. What about throwing? Is throwing not a thing? Because there is throwing. Throwing is a thing for for for ah bows and arrows, throwing stars, i off throwing knives, boomerang.

Speaker: Okay, so that's two d20s? Two d20s, and you're trying to roll five or less. yeah Now, you only need one success on those two dice, so there's a chance there. We're going to burn step-wire down.

Speaker: Okay, you can add you can add more dice by giving me something called threat. Okay, well... With threat points, I can do nasty things to your whole team. I can change the story a bit and add powers to people, but it will increase drastically increase your chances of getting this done.

Speaker: Okay, well, so I'll throw this out there. I rolled two d20s and I got an eight and a nine, so. That's two fails. Yes, it is. So zero successes.

Speaker: What was his target? One success. It's just dropping a Molotov, so it was as easy as could be Somehow it doesn't work. Your freshly broken arm, I'm guessing, probably has something to do with this. Yeah, yeah where to way to go, Kit. You wrecked his arm.

Speaker: I love it. Oh, look! Fire! they Wait, are they throwing fire at us? Are they sending armaments against us?

Speaker: Quick, Wes! Get for cover! So on a failed explosives roll, it's still um um um it hits that zone, but ah does only half damage.

Speaker: um The Molotov... Five dice energy. Let's see. First goon takes one, two, three, four damage. So can you tell us, so you you're adding dice together or like, how does, what do you, so for damage Modiphius has special dice for damage.

Speaker: They have different faces. It's, it's, it's, it's, um, When you're using a regular one d six you can. It's the the one face does one damage.

Speaker: The two face does two damage. The three and four do nothing. The five and six are one damage and an effect. Ooh, okay.

Speaker: This Molotov has the effect of Persistent. If you can roll effects on your damage dice, it will keep burning them perpetually. that's neat. Yeah. So on this first roll, I rolled three damage, but no Persistent.

Speaker: And so... is that the closest one? is that the guy in the door? Yeah, Goon number one takes three damage. The next Goon to burn...

Speaker: Oh, that damage is halved. Halved. And rounded down, so it's only one. no. Okay, but the next one I rolled a two and three ones and a three. So the three ones are each one damage, and then the two is two damage. So five damage halved is two damage to the next guy.

Speaker: No persistent on that one either. on the third... oh three fives, a one and a three. so three... One damage. Damage with effects, one damage.

Speaker: And so this character is going to take ah three damage every turn for the next three turns. Like this and an additional three turns.

Speaker: So. Oh, it's not entirely wasted or effective. no No. A little bit of burn. I'm guessing he's the one that the Molotov cocktail accidentally landed closest to.

Speaker: it It kind of sprays across rolls and and really just only gets the furthest one. But it gets him. Surprise! Yay.

Speaker: And Shiloh has their turn. ah The goons. Um...

Speaker: Goon number one is going to try to take a shot at Petey. Now Petey has cover. I said three dice cover, so we're going to roll our sort of same damage dice, where the one is equal to one, the two is equal to two, the five is equal to one, the six is equal to one, the three and four are nothing.

Speaker: It makes more sense when you have the custom guy and you can see the faces. I'm going roll three dice, and it's going to give you two extra armor this turn. So the cover is always rolled again, so we can do varying cover depending on your luck.

Speaker: So it's going to reduce any incoming damage by an additional two. You'll be fine, sir. Don't worry. also have armor. I will avenge you. So the goon shoots.

Speaker: I will bring your body back to the vault you're dead. These are little crappy pipe guns. So the goon actually has to get really close. Comes right up to the door.

Speaker: So I'm going to call it close range. There's there's just the sort of wall and and barricade in between you. oh my! Takes a shot. Petey, believe your defense is one. Yeah! Oh yeah!

Speaker: So that is my difficulty. rolled one success. So it is a hit. That's not good. These little guns only do...

Speaker: Five damage with no effects whatsoever. Five dice worth. I'm rolling the five and I got three. Now o when I'm attacking you, I roll a hit location in the game. So let's see where the bullet hits.

Speaker: The bullet hits your right arm. So tell me the physical DR on your right arm. On your character sheet, there's a hit locations.

Speaker: Right. It says 0, 1, 2. So on your right arm, you have no physical protection, kind one energy protection, and two radiation. This is a physical bullet, so your armor is zero.

Speaker: But that cover gave you two armor. So the three damage is reduced by two. You lose one hit point in your arm. Yay! Two more goons. Second goon is going to shoot at Westmoreland.

Speaker: Westmoreland, you have a defensive one, I believe? I have a defensive one. Yes, I do. This one, again, it's got to come... They have to come right up to the front door. These are not long-range weapons.

Speaker: I rolled two successes. So not only are you hit, but the GM gains one action point from this attack. but but but Westmoreland shot in the...

Speaker: Do I get any protection from the barricade or was it just... It is... You do get cover from the cover. Your main body will get hit. The cover is giving you one extra armor. Okay, I have two physical on my torso.

Speaker: Being a Mr. Handy, you already have a metal shell that's given you two. The cover gives you an extra one, so you take zero hit point loss. the bullet pings off of your See, I told you we'd be fine, sir. Yeah, my arm.

Speaker: ah You're right. We're going to be just fine. I've survived without arms my whole life, sir. You'll be just fine. Goon number three. Goon number three is going stop, drop, and roll.

Speaker: I'm going to call it, um because there's three rounds of persistent damage, I'm going to call it difficulty three. You coward, take the fire like a man! And I'm going to spend one of this all these action points you keep giving me to add a die to his pool to make it easier on him.

Speaker: His stats aren't great, so it's unlikely. Oh, okay. I got one success, so I failed it, but I also rolled a 20. And higher rolls being worse in this game, a 20 is a complication. Okay.

Speaker: so I have to injure myself in some way. Are there any suggestions as to a narrative complication in the scene? Tripped into the edge. Well, I figure he stopped, dropped, and rolled, right? He tried to. No, but it is it possible that the the the fire catches something else that's near him or something? like The town you're in? That's not a complication for me. That's a complication for you. That's true. Does he have a pipe gun too?

Speaker: He has one of those pipe guns. oh Well, maybe it accidentally goes off and hits him in the foot.

Speaker: Okay. We roll 1d6. Which of the three front guys gets hit by the stray bullet? I love it. He shoots his friend. Gene. Oh. and Well done, Everett. Well done. this Very well done.

Speaker: That's why they bring me along. that's that's That's some good GM thinking. So I rolled a one on the hit location die. That's the head. Outstanding. So the pipe gun goes off.

Speaker: The flames set off the round in the chamber as it is accidentally pointed at the back of the head. Of the goon beside him. he takes He takes five damage. He's not wearing any armor.

Speaker: ah Five damage in this game is the threshold for injury. An injury to the head, an injury to any location, imbues a condition like a broken arm. If you have an injury on an arm, your arm is broken. On the head, that imbues blindness and a stun.

Speaker: and Nice. Nice. That character cannot take normal actions on their next turn. And they cannot see. So they get minus three dice to everything. Nice. Well done. Well done.

Speaker: See, sir, I told you. This is going well. This is going very well for us. ah The two further goons um take sprint actions. Oh, I spoke too soon. Move two zones. They're closer now. Not right up to the doors, but perhaps one zone back.

Speaker: And we go back to the top of Nishev with Kitchen Kit, who was still standing by the table. um Kitchen Kit will take a minor action to stand beside Shiloh by that window.

Speaker: And this this funny little robot, ah one you don't really see around the wasteland, just kind of holds out his little hand out the window and in an Iron Man type way, um generates a blast of energy from his palm that goes out.

Speaker: And observing this, you can see that the power for this blast is coming from his central battery unit. And so Kit loses three hit points.

Speaker: Oh, but I was going to recommend you get that, Wes, but I changed my mind. Don't worry, I will soon. Shoots his hand laser at one of the goons.

Speaker: ah One success. No AP for the team, unfortunately. you know I've decided I'm going cannibalize this character. when First chance I get. um Hits that goon in the right arm. Let's see.

Speaker: Hits. Hits. Laser does six dice worth of damage. Kit rolls two effects. Six damage.

Speaker: Six damage and two effects. his damage his His effect is piercing, but there's no armor on this particular goon to pierce. So it just does six hit point loss to goon number two. That's all they had. The arm ah evaporates into red dust, ah blood and viscera pouring out of the empty shoulder socket. That goon falls to the ground, an ex-human being.

Speaker: Nice. And just in true Fallout fashion, you've described it perfectly. Thank you. um Trigger warning for our listeners. You might have to edit that so it goes forward. It goes first, yeah. Yes, there we go. Petey. Petey Redwing and Wes Morland are both on 13.

Speaker: But what about Gob Tholomew? Does he ever do anything? Gob Tholomew cowers. He cowers, okay. Okay. Okay. All right. So this is going well. I like this. Okay. So PD PD is, has read the old, you know, pulp mags from back in the day and like the Westerns to shootouts.

Speaker: And so he gets up and he's really got the gun out and he does a little spin and then he aims it and he's going to take a shot at the nearest guy. Yeah. Cause that's going to work. There's one goon standing right at the doorway.

Speaker: Just like practiced, sir. You probably should have stepped back. All right, so I roll 2d20, and I'm... Oh, God. Their defense is one. The difficulty is one.

Speaker: um Your agility small guns will be... Remember, sir, breathe. ah Take the shot between heartbeats, sir. Between heartbeats, eight. That's 11. Okay, all right.

Speaker: All right, so i roll two d twenty And this is tagged for it. So any die rolled three or under will do double successes. Oh, shit. So yeah, 2d20. 2d20. Wow, I a 10 out of 10.

Speaker: It's two successes. An AP for the team, and you shot the fella. All right. see that. And you shot him. 17 is the left leg.

Speaker: I meant that! I meant that! that your're Your pistol... You're so lucky I'm merciful! Normally does 4 damage, but you have the Gunslinger perk, which adds another one. Yes, oh ram it Master Gunslinger, and you do... 5 damage!

Speaker: Oof-da! That goon was blinded and stunned and down to two hit points. The bullet goes right through that meaty thigh, tearing apart very important things. Like arteries. Yeah, yeah. And that artery yeah pops and the goon falls in a bloody mess at the front door.

Speaker: Oh, I only meant to wound him Oh, I'm so sorry I'm so sorry, Mr. Gatcall Wait, what am I saying? No, stand back and you'll get more the same I'm a vaulter, you know ah That also used up one of your rounds yeah One of your rounds I forget how many bullets you have A lot 12 rounds. You're holding 12 bullets on your whole person. You're down to 11. Okay.

Speaker: okay So I want to know how, how close am i to the bar? And are there any alcohol bottles on the bar?

Speaker: I would say that the bar is one zone away. It's a minor move because it's a big open space. It's pretty easy to jet across with your little flame. Yep. Propulsor and tons of, of, of various moonshines that they call different. Right.

Speaker: But I can grab, can grab a couple, maybe a bottles and have them at the ready with my like,

Speaker: I would say if you spend this major action this turn, yeah you you can cook up two molotovs. That's what I'm thinking is I do have the flamethrowers. My thought process is that if I just throw the bottles and then follow it up with the flamethrower, I'm throwing and throwing liquid fire.

Speaker: But either way, I'll take them all the Molotovs. Gob sees what's you're what you're doing yeah and actively helps. he He tears his bartending rag and like stuffs it in. This'll do. This'll do. It's 190 proof.

Speaker: That's a good ghoul. We like ghouls like you. You're one of the good ones.

Speaker: We're going get kicked out of this town so fast.

Speaker: Oy, oy, All right, sir. but yeah Okay. I say that you come into possession of two Molotovs. I have a to have them ready. Your setup, your Mr. Handy setup is two claws and then one flamer.

Speaker: Yeah. So you have two bottles, one in each claw. One in each claw. um A mildly thunderous so sound yeah comes from outside the bar.

Speaker: Because Bobby Scratches is on the move. Oh, that's not good. Oh, that's not good. You can see out the windows the the fedora and jacketed full-size Deathclaw.

Speaker: He started folding his jacket. like Rolls up his sleeves in two easy motions and says, Guess I gotta do this myself.

Speaker: The boys back home are never gonna believe this. ah comes stomping up to just the the sort of patio balcony type outcropping at the front door. So still one zone away from that front door, but right there and looking mad. And and there was a bit of forced perspective with with the the upward angle.

Speaker: It just keeps getting bigger. lizard is 12 feet tall.

Speaker: He's going to have a hard time getting in. Watch. You just watch. yeah Shiloh. All right. um I'm kind of throwing darts. Okay. So how many of the flaming goons do we still have outside?

Speaker: So the one flaming goon who fell to the ground and whose gun went off is still lying on the ground on the front patio. no But the two other goons that were hit by flame are both dead.

Speaker: There are two fresh goons that are now replacing them. Okay. And a large. And a semi-humanoid lizard in formal wear.

Speaker: Long nails. Genius. Okay. So if I'm And a pinky ring somehow. i don't Hey, you know, no guys got to have style. um So if I'm to read my character sheet correctly, I only have one total Molotov cocktail. You only had one.

Speaker: Okay. And that's gone. So all I have now is a really cool baseball bat with spikes. okay um so what would the overseer say to me jumping out the window and start wailing on somebody uh that sounds like a rule of cool situation for me um hell yeah question would be, so.

Speaker: Play them like you borrowed them. It's a one shot. Always go for it. Amen. It's athletics of some sort, but we got to decide what special attribute ah connects with this. One could argue strength.

Speaker: One could argue agility. Luck. Luck. But I got a nine in strength. There you There you go.

Speaker: So um I'm going to call this. mean, death. So you want to jump safely to the patio or land on something specific?

Speaker: ah I want to land on the rather dapper lizard and start wailing in his head or shoulders of body. towards Okay.

Speaker: I'm gonna call that difficulty three. That's pretty far away. Right. Well, didn't he make it to the door? No. No, I thought he made it one zone away. Sort of one zone. Now, Shiloh's still a floor up.

Speaker: Right. So jumping out that one zone is still okay. Right. Gotcha. It's the difficulty of sort of latching on as you're falling. Yeah, yeah. So um going to call that strength athletics difficulty three.

Speaker: Okay, what character is closest? we We do have one AP that you can spend if you want to add another die. what's your target What's your target number? What's your number if you add those two things together?

Speaker: ah What? Strength and... It'd 11 for Shiloh. Shiloh would be looking for elevens Oh, that's... I'm i'm not going to say, oh, that's easy. yeah but yeah But if you're rolling three dice, it's a better chance of getting three successes than if you're rolling two dice.

Speaker: Once someone has rolled, you can spend a luck point to get one reroll as well. Ooh, convenient. Okay, so we're going to go for the three. I'm going to hit a button.

Speaker: And I rolled a two, a 19, and an eight. Okay. Two successes. and Spend a luck to reroll the 19. Yeah. I'm going spend a luck.

Speaker: I hope you get an 11 or under if you do. oh very strong odds. 13. So. ah Just just missed So Shiloh leaps from the window, comes down looking super badass and heroic, ah has her arms ready to grip that Deathclaw, but just the fine silk of this jacket is beautiful.

Speaker: It's a wonderful jacket, and there can be no grip on such a wonderful jacket. ah textile. She slips down and safely falls to her feet, but standing directly behind the angry deathclaw. They don't call him the Teflon deathclaw for nothing. That's okay. I got a plan.

Speaker: Careful with that that new arm of yours, sir ma'am. You still have a minor action. Ooh, giggles. Okay. Giggles is a minor action.

Speaker: ah ah sir So at that point, am I still in at least striking distance of a tail or lower appendage?

Speaker: You are, but a full attack is a major action. o minor, you could do an aim. You could leap away. you could... ah

Speaker: I will leap away, but to a, in an angle where it will turn into a, what's the word I'm looking for? Beneficial move.

Speaker: My next problem. Okay. Grab a dice of cover. Okay. Okay. okay I'm gonna say that you get into a position where if if ah Bobby Scratches were to turn and slash at you, there would be some obstruction. There's a pole or something that you're kind of conveniently behind. ah Perfect.

Speaker: And then... Or do need... The goons. Uh-oh.

Speaker: or do i need to turn say lagoons oh

Speaker: of which there are ah two functional ones and one burning. Okay, the the burning one takes that persistent damage, and that's enough to finish them. wow so I mean, you killed two of them.

Speaker: um one who One directly and one relatively indirectly, but still well done. And I'm a still acting badass. You are. Seeing Shiloh pop out of the window, they are surprised enough to turn and shoot at her.

Speaker: going to say the cover still counts against their attacks. The first goon. And is Shiloh's defense Yes.

Speaker: Okay, first goon. That's a hit. They're shooting Shiloh in her torso. Center mass. That's my favorite torso. The one stye of cover provides two armor. Nice.

Speaker: And Shiloh has leather armor, right? Or road leathers. So already has one point of armor on that chest, so it will reduce damage by three. Five dice of this gun.

Speaker: I roll. get quick Two damage. Two damage reduced by three armor is no hit point loss whatsoever. The second goon takes a similar shot and misses.

Speaker: Gobtholomew huddles under the bar having assisted with a Molotov creation. And we go back to Kit.

Speaker: um Kit ah inspired by Shiloh's Bravery decides to make a similar leap out the window. Only... Careful with that, processor!

Speaker: He will try to hang drop a little more delicately using agility. I'm i'm going to say he's not specifically going for the death cost, so it's going to be difficulty two.

Speaker: ah It's eight agility and one athletic. So I'm trying to get nines on these two dice. Oh, boy. i think we'll spend a luck for him if he messes this up. Well, I was going to say, do we want to give can we give him ah ah very buy an action point from you for him?

Speaker: You really want to protect that processor, don't you? No, i'm just i mean i want to i want I want to not die here. and So I'm kind of hoping that if we can survive this. I don't know. Is it worth it?

Speaker: Yeah, do it. It's always worth it. If he rolls better than he needs, you guys do get the AP. The little dude has like several shots left from that arm cannon from hell. And when he's out of battery, you can take his processor.

Speaker: Okay. So I rolled two successes. You're reading my mind. Yeah. Kit lands safely on that front patio. I also rolled a 20.

Speaker: Which means the team gets a complication against them. And you can't spend the luck to reroll that 20.

Speaker: No, no, no, no. no no no That's locked. um The patio is on fire. I'm going to say so is Kit.

Speaker: Kit takes five dice Molotov damage to his what's a Torso. No!

Speaker: Kit has three natural energy armor, so he's probably fine, but

Speaker: Oh, and I rolled four damage. So Kit only takes one hit point loss to the chest. That's worth That's tough. And then we go to Petey.

Speaker: Oh, and actually, Kit's going to do an aim action. In his little headlight-like bulbous eyes, they they sort of turn in the head and point right at the Deathclaw. And you can see that um Kit's left hand shot the energy blast.

Speaker: His right hand, in a mechanical sort of way, seems to almost spring load backwards. Oh, no. Petey. All right, all right. So we got a couple people have turned on the incredibly badass old lady who's going to show us pretty good stuff. yeah' We both go at the same time, right?

Speaker: Yeah. Yeah. What you got? um I assume that throwing one one Molotov cocktail is... is is is easier than throwing two simultaneously.

Speaker: So, yeah, I think i will. I will. I may not i take it or leave it, but I will extend one of my claws towards you if you want a Molotov cocktail. But if you're better with your gun, use your gun. I'm just putting it out there. that It'll be tens. I would need to roll under tens or eleven. So it's about the same. Okay. It's up to you, but I'm just it's it's on. Yeah. not on Almost literally on the table for you.

Speaker: Yeah, hell yeah, I'll grab that and whip it at. can i Am I close enough or do I need to like grab the bottle and move forward to get to to to hit the Deathclaw?

Speaker: That depends where Westy ends up. Westy started his turn at the bar. Right, we act simultaneously, right? So me taking my minor action to move towards where Petey is at the window, right? Ah, okay,

Speaker: You can coordinate that, though. yeah so like I can go first. Perfect. yeah It's up to you. like it's um like I don't know if i can we can split our actions up that way. or I would point out that throwing a Molotov is perception explosives. oh Which I'm really good at.

Speaker: And PD Redwing, i think, has a five. Okay, then never mind that part. Never mind. Take your turn. Shooting. Shooting. Okay, I'm going to try to shoot the the the poor...

Speaker: You know, i'm I'm having better luck with the thugs, though. ah ah Can I get a line on one of the other thugs and yeah and and get a shot? of Perfect. and well They have both come onto the patio.

Speaker: Oh, oh, other backs to me. No, they are charging forward. oh, oh, they're oh God. OK. Oh, God. I thought they were busy with the old lady. I felt brave there for a second. OK, I'm going to shoot the closest one, please. They turned and shot at her as they were still approaching the door because that's the orders they got from a deathclaw. They have not changed their minds yet.

Speaker: All right, so I got two a 2 and 17. I'll spend a point of luck to re-roll well the 17. Oh,

Speaker: oh wow. That's not good either. How many points of luck can I spend?

Speaker: Now, i like i've I usually employ a house rule where it's one per scene. okay But rules as written, it's one per roll. One per roll. Okay. So okay so i got a ah I got a two and a 14. So i I only got one success.

Speaker: ah Their defense is one, so that's a hit. Oh, nice. Okay. Okay. You shoot a goon ah in their left arm. Not the gun arm, but still.

Speaker: Sir, stop pulling your punches. Always going for the wound. i like showing off. Be quiet. I'm concentrating. Six damage I rolled. Six damage.

Speaker: Not enough to to waste them, but enough to inflict an injury on that left arm. Unfortunately, not what they use for their weapon, but... Good luck typing. That was a warning shot. That's why the dood comes up menacingly on the patio. A bullet just comes right through their left arm.

Speaker: The next one will be the left thigh. I promise. Awesome. Okay, so yeah, I got a quite a couple questions about my perks because they're very much related to what I'm going do now. Okay.

Speaker: So one is Demolition Expert. Does it have any effect here? it's its Yes. It's all in brackets. Actually, all of mine are in brackets. so So when you make an attack using a weapon with a blast quality, which Molotov has, no the attack gains the vicious damage effect. So that's if I roll five or sixes on the...

Speaker: Yes. On the damage, okay. Each five or six will do an additional damage on top of the fact that a five or six already does one damage. Nice. Okay, good. And this perk applies all weapons. Okay, and then the other one is Pyromaniac 1.

Speaker: When the damage you deal using fire-based weapons increase is increased by one CD. What's that CD? Combat dice. The special D6s that they make for Modiphius games. So it i have because I have a rank of two, right? i'm my rank No, I have one rank.

Speaker: Sorry. yeah not It's not my level. It's the rank of the skill. So I got one extra combat tie for fire-related things. So yeah, no, I don't know why I tried to give away one of these things. I am going to i'm goingnna i'm going to like zoom over to a window somewhere near the front, and I'm going to throw it at the deathclaw.

Speaker: Throw one of my two at the deathclaw. They're all on the patio. They're all in the same zone right now. Oh, okay, good. Oh, but so is Shiloh? Shiloh, I'm going to say because she took cover, is right in the next one. She's right off the patio. We said that she's behind a sort of pole or something. To me, that says, like, right off.

Speaker: Okay, good. So then in that case, i if as long as I'm not going to damage... Now you roll a 20. The complication I'm going to give you is that thing hits. so i let it went on but but i'm And I'm rolling perception energy weapons.

Speaker: Explosives. No, explosives, sorry. Which I also have, I'm tagged in. Right. So I'm rolling, I have a target number of 11. Yep.

Speaker: yep And every three or lower will give you two successes. And I only need one. And one success is all I need to hit? Or two? two ah You are at ground level. You're throwing this sort of through a window. I'm going say your difficulty is two.

Speaker: Two.

Speaker: All right. Well, I got luck too. All right, let's do it. I rolled a three and a four. Both of those are double successes. You have four successes. so we got a Difficulty two. Two for the team. Two AP for the team.

Speaker: Nice. who All right. Let that damage dice roll. All three of these beings get the fire. And for you, fire is six dice with the vicious effect and and the persistent effect. yeah So, goon number one.

Speaker: taking the fire damage in their right arm. I roll six dice. get... Is that the one with the bad left arm?

Speaker: It is not. ah but I roll four damage, one effect. So that is six damage in total, enough to break that arm or injure it.

Speaker: And then that that damage is going to be added persistently next turn as well. That character is doomed if they can't get that fire off. The next goon, the one that has the left arm shot through already, is taking damage in their right arm this time.

Speaker: to even it out. right Rolled three, four damage, and two effects. Okay, so that is Eight damage. That's enough to wipe them out.

Speaker: They are burned to death. There we go. Screaming plume of fire right there. And last, but of course not least, is Bobby Scratches himself.

Speaker: The hit location. Burn and die. the right arm. Say please, sir. but I apologize. Please burn and die.

Speaker: Okay, wow. i went Wow, wow, wow, wow. We like it when the GM says that. We do. Four damage and three effects. So that's ten damage applied persistently three times. The thing about it is ah Bobby Scratches as a big old Deathclaw has four natural energy armor so that is reduced to six hit point loss.

Speaker: yeah But that suit is gone. Oh, ruins. Such a fine and thin silk could never survive onslaught of moonshine that you just poured off. I would like to say, there's more of that where that came from.

Speaker: What is that? Fire? What are you talking about? Where's Cobb?

Speaker: not Not here. well Right? you're not here He's not here. tell him I'm not here. I did i told him. i told yeah He's still not here.

Speaker: oh you're so dead. You're also dead.

Speaker: What happens if I shoot one of those explosives? In the bar that's in the bar that's floor? I was thinking like throwing her a kick and out to this thing. It does cat mine damage. that Yeah, every time you shoot one in a game, how they explode. That whole zone is armed in shrapnel. I think even if they're just sitting on a shelf, like they're not armed, but like they're available to be grabbed, I think if you shoot them, they still explode.

Speaker: think I want to try that. A very upset Bobby scratches, uses his miner to approach Shiloh around her cover,

Speaker: moves around it and then with his action he's going to attack I'm going to spend three of my action points to add two dice to my pool there's no way I'm going to miss this thing Shiloh I believe your defense is one you only need one success ben great remember he's a guest on our show he's also a Patreon supporter at the good level so don't kill him yeah I mean, I rolled all 12. No, I rolled five successes. oh my gosh. I take back four AP from the three I spent.

Speaker: And Poppy scratches, lifts a huge death claw ah and hits Shiloh in the torso.

Speaker: I'll scratch right across the chest. Torso's where you keep your goods. Mm-hmm. The damage on Deathclaw Claw is 7 dice, and it has the piercing effect.

Speaker: I rolled 1, 2, 3, 4 damage, and 1 effect. So I'm doing 5 damage that cuts through 1 armor. Shiloh!

Speaker: On the chest, I think the road leathers are the only armor she has. Yeah. So that's one armor. The piercing cancels that out. So all five hit point loss happened to Shiloh's chest.

Speaker: Shiloh is now down to nine hit points total. And because it's five hit points or more, that's an injury to the chest. A torso injury is the bleeding condition.

Speaker: oh shit Every turn Shiloh's turn, she will take two dice of damage that ignore all armor until that injury is treated.

Speaker: Now the great thing about combat dice is the three and four faces are zeros, so that bleeding might not be any damage at all. but right

Speaker: She just got Deathclawed. Shiloh, it's your turn. You got Deathclawed. him back. Hit him back. Don't take that crap. I'm going to. So i'm I'm looking at the pros and cons here. So the pro is I'm vaccinated.

Speaker: So taking damage from a claw, i won't catch a disease. Normally we would have to make a disease roll, which can get very fun. There's a big chart of like 30 diseases. Oh dear. This is my kind of game.

Speaker: yeah this i kind of game Yeah, it like i get a chart to come along with this one uh okay so now uh i would like to clarify a perk as gifted a choose two special attributes and increase them by one each so that happened at character creation oh they were already not something you invoke yeah Okay, I didn't know if that was like post the numbers or if this is the the actual numbers. Okay.

Speaker: Genius. All right. So I have a heavy handed. I am, let's see, unarmed attacks. No, I got a big leagues.

Speaker: I'm going to big league is sorry, but I'm going to use. It's like a swatter, isn't it? Yeah, the two hands on the baseball bat. So normally that baseball bat does four damage.

Speaker: Okay. But with your nine strength get an additional two damage. And then your heavy-handed adds another damage on top of that. And then big leagues adds the vicious effect on top of that. This is what you do for a living. you hit things like that yeah So the difficulty is one.

Speaker: If you want the hit location to be random, if you want to do a called shot to a specific part of the deathclaw, you can raise that difficulty to two. ah Where did I damage it with fire?

Speaker: was it ten see

Speaker: the right arm right right arm yes so i am going to give all the onions to that right arm and see if i can at least if maybe ah disable it remove it something if you want to use an ap or hell yeah whatever points yeah yeah i'm gonna oh unknown take one of ours we got two oops sorry yeah we got two yeah give them some extra dice heck yeah Yeah. So how many D20s do I have to throw at this guy in order to like... So normally you get two.

Speaker: What's your target number with ah strength plus... So there's a mechanic you have not been introduced to yet that you're you're going to like. Physical weapons, things that aren't guns, you can add dice worth of damage with AP.

Speaker: yeah If you reserve your AP during the attack and then you spend it once damage is rolled, you can spend up to three AP to add plus three dice to the damage pool. right Shiloh is very good with his bat. she's rolling um She has nine strength and four in melee weapons, so she's rolling 13, four.

Speaker: on two dice, getting one success? Yeah. One success is a random hit location. If it's specifically attacking arm, it's two. Both successes, yeah. I think you can do it.

Speaker: And then a luck point will re-roll it, right? Yeah, and if you if you make any AP on this attack, you can spend it on damage. Yay, so two D20s, yeah?

Speaker: Or are you buying the third? I'm going to buy the third. Okay, safety. Yeah, come on. Low numbers, a whole lot of whammy. Your difficulties do... Oof to me. So I got a 4, 13, and a 16. So that's two successes or three successes with a 4? Three successes. Yeah. So the 14 doesn't do anything. The 13 gets one success, but that low number, because it's below your tag, gets two. So that's three successes on difficulty two. You get an AP back. And we can add damage with AP. So if you spend a luck to reroll the 14, we might actually get one more AP. Yeah.

Speaker: yeahp well ah I will spend the luck, but it is a 16. But having said that, I'll still spend it. Oh, sorry. So not a 14, 16, yeah. Oops, I just hit the wrong button. Alright, so 1d20 to re-roll for the 16? Yep.

Speaker: And that is a 13. Alright. Another success. Okay, so 2 AP back for the team? So we have 3 AP to spend on damaging this Deathclaw. Would you like to add all 3 to the damage?

Speaker: Oh, yeah. Yes. Okay. All out. Here we go. So so four dice from the bat. Two dice strength. One die from heavy damage.

Speaker: From heavy handed perk. And then an extra three die from AP. All of it vicious. Okay. Yeah. Oh, and piercing one. And piercing. That's going to help because the desktop got armor.

Speaker: Natural hide. I'm unhappy with this. Yeah. oh Okay. Make it happen, Kevin. um Three effects. I'm going to kill him. Plus five damage.

Speaker: Okay, so that's eight damage and then three vicious for 11 hit point loss and it's cutting through three armor. The Deathclaw's natural hide is five physical reduction.

Speaker: So the 11 hit point loss minus the two armor it's got left after the piercing is nine hit point loss to that left arm. The left arm is... or Was it the right arm? Right arm? yeah Right arm. was Whatever arm was hurt before, right arm ah right arm is broken.

Speaker: um Bobby had already lost a couple of hit points. Now loses another nine. Woohoo.

Speaker: So we are... very close to out of time i just looked at my clock and it's the six o'clock uh deadline is 15 minutes over but we don't have to be on our next call for 15 more minutes so do you think we have one more round in 15 minutes or shall we call it there and say thanks for teaching us how to do combat i think we should call it here i think bobby scratches is businessman who's ready to negotiate now Well done, Everett. Well done. I got a new punchline. Bobby scratches with his left arm.

Speaker: That baseball bat comes down. It hits the death claw across ah the arm. The arm breaks and hangs limply down. And a yelp comes out of this big head that you would not expect from such a large creature. And you hear Bobby Scratches say, all right, all right, we can talk. I got money.

Speaker: Who are you people? are Vaulters. And we're here to help everyone. Isn't that right, Wes? course. Of course it's Vaulties. Of course it's Vaulties.

Speaker: a i love it. Thank you so We are from Vault 104, by the way. Just for the record, if there's any retribution to be made, see us in Vault 104.

Speaker: That was wonderful. Thank you. I'll remember that forever. Vault 104 has got a color to it. Yeah. So great. scratches a 104 in his shoulder. i pretty remember I'm pretty sure that's the that's the incest vault, right? That's the one for the incest, right? I'm pretty sure. As if there's only one. Yeah, right. yeah Exactly.

Speaker: But yeah, that's that's the system. And you can see how the buildup of the AP and stuff, you can you can save it for certain moments. That makes sense. And thanks for showing this narrative thing. Thanks for suggesting that on that last hit too, because we wouldn't have known that you mentioned it. No, yeah, that was good.

Speaker: That's a lot of fun. That's a lot of fun. Oh my gosh. Yeah. And Everett, man, you saved the day. Like, you yeah. Yeah. Like right off the bat. No, super, super thrilled. I really love being part of this. And, you know, to James, James and and Chuck, ah you you guys are the absolute best.

Speaker: ah I would love to run some rounds with you guys again. Absolutely. Awesome. thing We will have you back. app Yes, we will have you back. Easily. and and And I think we're going to hear his voice again at the end of this to thank the Patreons. So thank you, James. We will. I'm sure you'll see us again. um And thank you for teaching us that. So in the meantime, any good GM advice you want to drop on us before we say goodbye?
