Speaker: Welcome to the Solarpreneur Podcast, where we teach you to take your solar business to the next level.
Speaker: My name is Taylor Armstrong.
Speaker: I went from $50 in my bank account and struggling for groceries to closing 150 deals in a year and cracking the code on why sales reps fail.
Speaker: I teach you how to avoid the mistakes I made and bring in the top solar dogs of the industry to let you in on the secrets of generating more leads, falling up like a pro, and closing more deals.
Speaker: What is a solopreneur, you might ask?
Speaker: A solopreneur is a new breed of solopro that is willing to do whatever it takes to achieve mastery, and you are about to become one.
Speaker: Hey, what's up, solopreneurs?
Speaker: I am filming this live from Sardin, Italy, today.
Speaker: Just wanted to drop some content if you were watching the video version of this.
Speaker: What fret, hey, he's sitting there.
Speaker: Got the ocean right behind us.
Speaker: Just fabulous location here.
Speaker: And I'm having a good time with her at a retreat.
Speaker: This was put on by Jan LeBunel.
Speaker: Yeah, his comedy is called Momentum.
Speaker: and just did a great job at putting these retreats together.
Speaker: So I would highly recommend it to have not gone to one of his retreats.
Speaker: But to you who are new to the show, we are here to help you close more deals, generate more leads and referrals, and have a much better time in the solar industry.
Speaker: Welcome back, or welcome if this is the first time you have checked out podcast.
Speaker: Thank you for being here, and we are coming at you every Tuesday and Friday.
Speaker: with fresh new content.
Speaker: And today I'm excited to share just a few things that we learned recently at this retreat.
Speaker: It was a couples retreat.
Speaker: James, he is kind of like a mental coach, psychologist type guy.
Speaker: So really helps out mental breakthroughs.
Speaker: And I think 80% of this game is what's going on between your ears.
Speaker: So much of what we do with cells
Speaker: marketing, having success with solar.
Speaker: Most of it, I think, is just what's going on upstairs.
Speaker: We've got to master it, a mentor side of things.
Speaker: So I want to share just a quick exercise he walked us through that I thought was super powerful and it can help us have breakthroughs in solar and just really help us keep a positive and a more consistent frame of mind.
Speaker: And so what he did was he had us take out a sheet of paper, put a line down the middle.
Speaker: We put two columns and on each side we put controllable, uncontrollable.
Speaker: And the exercise was just to make a list of all the things we can control and all the things we can't control.
Speaker: And we had to get us right on sticky notes.
Speaker: So for me, I was just writing down a bunch of things.
Speaker: Just like finding good schools for kids, growing a solar tinge, dealing with kids, keeping customization canceling.
Speaker: the future of solar actually I think even before dividing it you just had us write down things that were like on our mind things that potentially you know added stress for our lives so all these different things on sticky notes and then after that you had us divide it into controllable uncontrollable
Speaker: And so I was putting most of it on control.
Speaker: Probably, you know, half the, I had a list of like nine things.
Speaker: Another thing was like overeating, managing my like fitness and weight.
Speaker: And then another thing was just like producing enough content for the podcast.
Speaker: Just all the things that I worry about and sometimes, you know, add stress in my life or on my mind.
Speaker: So some of you already know that I run my own door to door sales team here in San Diego.
Speaker: And as we are gearing up for the summer, I realized if we do the same thing we always did, we're going to get the same results.
Speaker: But if I want to increase my deal flow, I need to do something different to get an advantage.
Speaker: Then we discovered an app called Solar Scout, but it's not a door knocking app.
Speaker: It's a data platform that shows us who is likely to go solar in our market.
Speaker: It shows us who has previously applied for solar but later canceled the deal, who has moved in recently, and even how much electricity the homes are using in a given neighborhood.
Speaker: It's been working for a lot of teams across the country, and now I'm on board too.
Speaker: I'm going to be one of the first to use SolarScout in San Diego, so I decided to partner up.
Speaker: But I told them, hey, if I'm going to talk about SolarScout on my show, you need to give my listeners a great deal.
Speaker: And they did.
Speaker: So go to solarscout.app forward slash Taylor and book a demo with them and you'll get 10% off your first month when you sign up.
Speaker: That's solarscout.app forward slash Taylor.
Speaker: Okay, back to the show.
Speaker: And so a lot of these things I'm putting in the controllable side, there's, you know, three or four things I put on controllable.
Speaker: But then the question James asked us was like, okay, how many of these things can you control today, like within the next hour?
Speaker: Now go back and reevaluate.
Speaker: And so once he said that, I went through all these things, like how many in the next hour can I actually control?
Speaker: well can't really control finding good schools for kids in the next hour uh can't really control keeping customers from canceling in the next hour uh i can't really control the future of solar and um you know rage changing that was another one on there can't necessarily control that within the next hour so we went through the whole list of all of those
Speaker: 10 things or so i had put down and none of those things i could control within the next hour oh um it was just a powerful exercise to help us see that hey there's so many things that we let that affect our mental state uh there's so many ways we get in this like solar poster as we call it the ups and downs but at the end of the day
Speaker: Especially if you're thinking short term, there's not a lot of things we can't control.
Speaker: So I think the more we can realize that, it's over.
Speaker: And the tip he gave us was, okay, maybe focus on, on a week-to-week basis, the things that are partially controllable.
Speaker: Because, you know, you'll get some of these things.
Speaker: Keeping customers from cancelling.
Speaker: Getting worse sales.
Speaker: We can't control those things to a degree, right?
Speaker: But, you know, you're not always going to save every customer from cancelling.
Speaker: But instead of stressing out about it in the now, maybe pick one or two little things on a week to week basis and focus on the controllables within that specific item with domestic city film.
Speaker: Instead of stressing out beating yourself up over all of them.
Speaker: As so many people, myself included, have the deal canceled.
Speaker: I happen to play an indoor show and focus so much on, oh, this sucks.
Speaker: I could have done this better.
Speaker: That it affects the mental states and affects the cells, affects the attitude.
Speaker: So why not focus on the things that we can control, both our most controllables?
Speaker: And then the rest forget about it because like Jim's brought up to us, she will get out on it, hour to hour, minute to minute basis.
Speaker: There's very few things we can control.
Speaker: So I hope that helps.
Speaker: Just a little exercise I wanted to share while we were at this retreat.
Speaker: I'll make that get back to the retreat here.
Speaker: Enjoy the ocean.
Speaker: Everyone's got to take a little time.
Speaker: Also take some vacations on wines and have some mental break.
Speaker: Very important.
Speaker: But we'll see you on the next podcast.
Speaker: We got some exciting guests coming up.
Speaker: And happy selling.
Speaker: Go get them this week.
