Introduction and Guest Arrival

00:00:01
David Isaacs
in true
00:00:22
David Isaacs
Welcome everyone. It is May 13th at time of recording. I'm joined by our friend Brian.
00:00:31
David Isaacs
Ryan, what's up, buddy?
00:00:34
The Big Dog
Uh, eight shit shaking, but the leaves in the trees, baby. David, how you doing?
00:00:40
David Isaacs
Trying to figure out how to respond to that, but... um
00:00:42
The Big Dog
Yeah, curveball.
00:00:46
David Isaacs
um Yeah, doing good. Not really, not much different around, you know, in my neck of the woods. So, yeah, just trying to keep, you know, keep at it.
00:00:58
David Isaacs
Look for ways to improve.

Challenges in Dog Training

00:01:01
David Isaacs
You know, with the dog, she had her first training session on Sunday. Unfortunately, she doesn't know I, you know, it's 90 bucks a session.
00:01:11
David Isaacs
and she was tired within you know the first 20 minutes so it was basically just me talking to the trainer about you know conceptually what we could do when she exhibits such behaviors but yeah she's kind of aligned in thinking that she was with other dogs so it makes sense with either the breeder or maybe somebody got two of them from the same litter it's like the litter mate syndrome of
00:01:15
The Big Dog
Yeah.
00:01:37
David Isaacs
You know, they match each other's energy, they get bigger, play gets rougher. So she just doesn't know how play with humans. um
00:01:47
The Big Dog
Gotcha.
00:01:48
David Isaacs
So, yeah, dealing with that, she caught me in the, caught me like right in the crease of my elbow. One of the times, like running, jumping at full speed, and then like grabbing me with her mouth.
00:02:01
David Isaacs
So she didn't bite, but she had like latched on and took her weight down with her before she had let go.
00:02:07
The Big Dog
Oh, sheesh.
00:02:09
David Isaacs
So that was a fun thing to deal with. But other than that, she's doing well. you know Lease training's been going pretty well. Trying to incorporate like some sniff training.
00:02:23
David Isaacs
So some other things kind of keep her occupied throughout the day. So that's been doing good. You know, it's it's helped kind of with that structure and that foundation and, you know, having those boundaries and then, yeah, just trying to remain consistent. So with her and then, you know, also my work and my sleep schedule and that's been better.
00:02:45
David Isaacs
Last night I was really weird. I never, like, take a nap sometimes. You get, like, really vivid dreams.

Vivid Dreams and Health Concerns

00:02:55
David Isaacs
Has that ever happened to you?
00:02:55
The Big Dog
Yeah.
00:02:56
David Isaacs
Yeah.
00:02:56
The Big Dog
oh yeah. All the time. Yeah.
00:02:58
David Isaacs
Yeah, so I, you know, i I wasn't feeling the best last night, so I went to lay down. you know, sometimes, like, you feel sick, you just feel off, like you can't fall asleep. But I fell asleep and right around my usual time, but then had, like, pretty vivid dreams and woke up and then tried to fall back asleep, had really vivid dreams, and then I was just, like, up, up at, you know, 45 minutes after i initially had fallen asleep.
00:03:28
David Isaacs
So I was up for a good amount of time last night. And then luckily I got up earlier this morning than I typically would. um But yeah, I managed to get through work just fine.
00:03:43
David Isaacs
Got reminded that I still need to. get some blood work done. My doctor thought I might be low iron. I'm thinking she might be right considering over the last few days getting a good amount of sleep and still you know kind of feeling tired or sleeping through my alarms even though I've kind of had it set up of 9.30 and 5.30.
00:04:08
David Isaacs
uh, and it's getting up at like seven. So I don't know if, um, you know, sleep apnea. Luckily the home sleep studies are at a shortage. So the earliest appointment I could get in June, that was canceled a few weeks ago.
00:04:26
David Isaacs
Um, so gotta love, uh, us healthcare, care but, um, Yeah, kind of the journaling and and just trying to chill out, you know, before going to bed and, know, having that me time or me and Daphne time has been has been good.
00:04:32
The Big Dog
yeah
00:04:42
David Isaacs
Keeping my mind at ease for the most part and, yeah, just kind of taking it day by day, doing my work and seeing you know, what else I want to improve on, what I want to get better at.
00:04:56
The Big Dog
Nice, man. um Yeah, watch out for that low iron because my mother-in-law has low iron. She's had low iron for, i think, ever since she got her ah gastric sleeve, i think. I was screwed up with one she got. But, um yeah, she has to get an injection once a year, and she's been having kind of... She was put on a She goes to see a functional medicine doctor, and they were giving her like kind of like a vitamin IV type deal. Yeah.
00:05:29
The Big Dog
to kind of help supplement in between shots. Um, but it was also causing her have kidney issues. So, um, definitely get that. I don't put the fear in you. I don't think that's where it's going to go, but, um, it's something to kind of be mindful Uh, I can get,
00:05:49
The Big Dog
kind of scary if you're noticing that especially if you're chewing on ice lot is a pretty big sign low iron it's pretty common for a lot of people with that symptom so um but yeah man key i'm glad you're keeping your your health up and daphne is keeping you active okay it's kind of important
00:06:07
David Isaacs
Yeah. Oh yeah, I need to be keeping her active, otherwise like she'll try to get work done in other ways, or she's too energetic, or what have you.
00:06:21
David Isaacs
So yeah, just like some games, some puzzle toys with treats and and whatnot.
00:06:22
The Big Dog
Right.
00:06:27
David Isaacs
And yeah, the low iron thing, definitely. i gotta go get checked out, which I thought I might have had for a while, between the donating blood and that I've been on, uh, Fomatidyne, which is kind of like a acid, uh, reducer, stomach acid reducer.
00:06:44
The Big Dog
OK.
00:06:44
David Isaacs
So you have less of a pool of acid to kind of break down, some of that iron to get in near your gut.
00:06:45
The Big Dog
Yeah.
00:06:51
David Isaacs
Uh, there's also So trying to figure out if I am low iron, because if you're not low iron, you start taking iron, you could get you know overload of your iron stores, which can be toxic on your body.
00:07:03
David Isaacs
You could have issues with the iron store transfer to...
00:07:03
The Big Dog
Yep.
00:07:09
David Isaacs
like the processes that it needs in your body. so there's supplements to help with that. And, uh, yeah, I have heard some horror stories of people having to do iron infusions, um, like that, not working or having to supplement with it and, uh, like messing up their stomach. Um,
00:07:29
David Isaacs
You know, in the in the past with donating blood in that, I've gotten liquid iron, which seemed to have worked pretty well. But yeah, it's just kind of another stop just see, you know, kind of figure out what's ah what's up what's what, and we'll go from there.
00:07:45
The Big Dog
Yeah, yeah, definitely keep me. Let me know. because My mother-in-law has bunch of tips and tricks that I've kind of just absorbed over the years. So just her talking about it a lot. So I.
00:07:58
The Big Dog
no other thing or two not an expert on a functional medicine doctor so just uh i can tell you what i've heard in her journeys but um yeah know and so for for me this this week's uh i've hit a bunch of milestones um so actually as of today i'm officially two years sober from alcohol uh it was a
00:08:20
David Isaacs
Beep beep beep.

Sobriety and Weight Loss Journey

00:08:22
The Big Dog
bren brown brown ah my mind today compared to two years ago, much clearer, much more focused on things at hand. Kind of just like a man on a mission right now. In fact, I've and talked about it. I've been on a clerk deficit for, i guess, since the end of February. I really didn't even really start knowing uh much about it uh or you know learning things every day but i'm you know 23 pounds down now as my last weigh in on sunday so um yeah i mean i'm averaging about a pound a week
00:08:59
David Isaacs
Hell yeah.
00:09:04
The Big Dog
I'm sorry, pound and a half per week. Um, um, and I think like, uh, roughly about a 5,000 calorie per week deficit, uh, froze. So, you know, 5,000 below my maintenance. So that's, uh, kind of right where I want to be. I'm trying to take on less eating. I feel like less hungry throughout the day. So, um, you know, I,
00:09:31
The Big Dog
not stress eating. I'm not eating late at night. I'm generally done eating by like four o'clock. So, you know, it's kind of just all liquids for the rest of the night. So kind of getting a bit of fasting going to like, I'm trying to, you know, like you are just trying to take my health seriously. And, um, you know, one big thing that I have to kind of do in the next month or so is I want to go get a physical, um, you know, i wanted I wanted to at least have something for the doctor and be like, yes, I, I realized that I'm obese, but I'm doing something about it and it's working.
00:10:01
The Big Dog
Um, you know, but I also just want to know where i at, you know, physically, haven't had blood work done in some, some time. So, um, I just, I'm, my focus is back, uh, clarity.
00:10:16
The Big Dog
Um, you know, my mental health is good. I did get into a tiff with a coworker or, uh, yesterday actually, kind of upset me, but, um,
00:10:29
The Big Dog
you know, overall I didn't react how I normally would, which would be to just stress eat and comfort eat. i I think I had like a bowl of cereal, but it was like, you know, very low, the the protein kind with like some fair life milk. So like normally I would come home and just like raid the fridge. Like I had like get nachos, I get like whatever we had just kind of sitting around. so my appetite is definitely curbed, which is huge for me. Cause mean, i would just go through carbs like left and right and, you know, put on pounds. So trying to reverse all that. And, you know, I'm in, I'm in a good place for that.
00:11:09
The Big Dog
Um, so I'm proud of myself on that.

Managing a Major Career Project

00:11:11
The Big Dog
And then third one I'm
00:11:17
The Big Dog
i'm starting, we officially kicked off the largest project of like my career. you know, I have, just a kickoff call. I've done discovery like survey, and then we're already meeting on Friday to kind of go over that. So I'm on top of that stuff. Um, feels kind of weird cause I always felt like I was behind before, but just trying to make sure I can, um, stay ahead and, you know, keep that vision going of where we need to be.
00:11:49
The Big Dog
and keeping communication open with all parties who involved you know getting opinions of others you know just trying to uh you know i know it talked about that i had done all kind of like the pre-leg work last week and but now it's kind of all paying off and i feel like i'm in a good place just kind of all around um which is weird and you know i trying to also stay ahead of my self-sabotage ways when things kind of just aren't going well. um Like, you know, like i like i talked about earlier, you know, it's like I got into an argument with a coworker about how our taxonomy is structured. Like, they felt like we hadn't made any progress as far as
00:12:33
The Big Dog
getting rid of certain categories and, you know, really getting deep into the, like the user experience side of things. And had kind of combat like, well, I'm like, well, this is what you're here for Like, you're so supposed to be helping me with this. Like you work in the plumbing industry. I don't. So you know how people are searching, like, you know how they should be, things should kind of be laid out, but we weren't going as fast as this person had wanted. yeah, I'm like, dude, I'm only one person. Like, literally, if you want the e-com team involved, they have 11 people. They're working on a site that has 60,000 SKUs, and I'm working on a site with 1.3 million. Like, math just ain't math in here, pal. so
00:13:16
The Big Dog
And then we kind of just, like... We're like, okay, we're going to go to our separate ways. I'm like, I'll get some of my cowork other coworkers involved for their advice. um He's like, yeah, do that. And then we kind of just want to separate cancel the rest of the meetings that remain on this. And haven't really talked about that much outside of work. So, you know, um, but, uh, I guess I bring that up to say, you know, I did do stress eating quote unquote, but it was not nearly to the factor of nine normally do. So that's usually stage one of my self-sabotage that I kind of have to be aware of.
00:13:52
The Big Dog
Um, step two is usually like taking things out on other people who don't necessarily, I'm just transference. Um, And I, you know, I felt like I've been good about that. I've been more, you know,
00:14:08
The Big Dog
ah more aware of what I'm feeling. and you know, I've kind of had just an outlet of I get home, I'll nap or I'll have some downtime playing a a video game like they just released season three of Battlefield 6.
00:14:23
The Big Dog
I've been getting into that a bit, you know, just using my downtime for me rather than like pacing around thinking like, everyone's trying out to get me and you know nothing's everything's not going right like that type of thing like for first time in like a long time i'm kind of like i don't know behaving normally so um yeah normal quote unquote exactly
00:14:47
David Isaacs
Normal. I need to be normal.
00:14:52
The Big Dog
I need to be, yeah, yeah, exactly. So, you know, and i'm spending time with my son, my, we'll call my demon Daphne. um He's growing, like I got, we got whole bunch of stuff for kindergarten this week, like tomorrow's a full slate.
00:15:08
The Big Dog
It's full steam ahead, man. I don't have time to kind of just dwell on Um, and maybe that's another thing that's helpful too, is just, I've been so busy with like mother's day and my wife's been working and just like, I've had to put focus on my son and other things. So getting my gym finally all taken care of down here, like I'm starting to work out really like getting more, I'm, you know, taking on more So I'm keeping myself busy and I'm keeping my brain healthy.
00:15:38
The Big Dog
um so I don't fall back on my, My old, my old ways.
00:15:44
David Isaacs
Yeah, that's good.
00:15:45
The Big Dog
God, that felt good to get out.
00:15:47
David Isaacs
Yeah, yeah. No, you touched on like a lot of interesting points there that I was picking up on. Really just kind of the comparison, right?
00:15:57
David Isaacs
So I will say with a physical, I think typically those take like a month or two. They're scheduled like a month or two out. um So yeah, maybe put that kind of higher up on a priority list. Like maybe the whichever doctor you're seeing could see earlier.
00:16:15
David Isaacs
But you know, me with the the sleep study thing, like definitely trying to get people to try to schedule as early as possible.
00:16:15
The Big Dog
Right.
00:16:24
The Big Dog
Yeah, for sure.
00:16:24
David Isaacs
Um, cause like lack of appointments and what have you. Um, um, I think really like a comparison of like where you were at versus where you're at now is something that I've had a gap for, for, uh, quite a while of just not really being able to see me for who I am now versus who I was.
00:16:43
David Isaacs
So it's definitely something like therapy kind of helps with that kind of that reassurance as far as like, well, you know, when might talk to my therapist, because we've been talking for a little over a year now of you know, where I was at and where I'm at now.
00:16:43
The Big Dog
Yeah.
00:17:02
David Isaacs
And, you know, with life in general, of like, you know, you're going to have these stressors, you're going to have certain things happen. But who are you in the moment?
00:17:15
David Isaacs
And who you used to be in that moment is a pretty, pretty big contrast. so if you have, if you can recognize that and then recognize that's a trigger for you. And, you know, the comparison that you had made of like, well, it used to be i used to do a lot worse with you know the stress eating than than I did after this, um, which was good. And also like recognizing that that would be a trigger for you and to, you know, kind of, I don't know what the the term is hamping down, like, or anyways, like you're, you're aware of it. So, you know, to, you know, kind of make sure that it doesn't, you know, send you through that spiral.

Enhancing Health Habits

00:17:59
The Big Dog
Yeah.
00:17:59
David Isaacs
Um, and even with the physical thing of like, yeah, you know, while you're, if you go to a doctor that you've been to for a while, um, like, or if you just go to one right away, like the opinion of, you know, how much you weigh right now is going to be different. Right.
00:18:16
The Big Dog
yeah
00:18:16
David Isaacs
Um, or if you could say like you have been losing weight, you have been on, um, you know, caloric deficit and have been working that way, um, to, you know, doing it the right way, I would say, because I think a pound and a half a week is,
00:18:30
The Big Dog
Right.
00:18:34
David Isaacs
very doable. Anything trying to get over like two pounds a week, I think is where it starts to become, and I'm not entirely sure, I'm not an expert, but it starts to become like unmanageable. So it's good to hear that you've been able to manage that and kind of, you know, throughout the daily stressors of life to staying consistent with it.
00:18:55
David Isaacs
So it's really good to hear. Have you noticed anything else like, with these better habits and stuff that you're doing, like some other things that might pop up, um, that, uh, you know, with the hydration is like being more cognizant and like drinking more water um, you know, anything else like, has that been helpful?
00:19:16
The Big Dog
Oh, yeah.
00:19:18
David Isaacs
Um,
00:19:19
The Big Dog
Yeah. So, um, and I drink,
00:19:25
The Big Dog
I guess, again, kind of depending on the day, depending on if I'm more If I'm more hungry, I definitely, or I'm sorry, if I'm less hungry, I drink more water. And I i don't know if that's supposed to be kind of, but if I eat more, i still drink, I still drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water. I mean, that's, it's kind of just like the suggested minimum, but I usually kind of hit that pretty early on. Um, I mean, I'm getting up, I think it's just because I've gotten a routine down or starting to get a routine down.
00:19:56
The Big Dog
um, that I've kind of just been craving since like my, my kid has been born. um you know, it's for me kind of just bringing everything doesn't necessarily work. Like if i if I'm hungry and I'm like out driving, you know, I'm, you know, pre pre me doing all of this, I would have just stopped at McDonald's like without a second hesitation, um and, and gotten and something. But Now that I'm like meal prepping and I'm a little bit maybe pickier on when I'm eating out, you know, um, like I'm just saving money by cooking for myself. I'm learning new things, how to cook or by cooking, um, you know, saving money by not eating out.
00:20:42
The Big Dog
Um, so I'm, I'm, there's kind of like a lot of factors at play, but, uh, for me kind of getting back to you drinking more water, I feel,
00:20:53
The Big Dog
I mean, I drink probably between 64 and 128 ounces. So I do feel like I'm drinking more liquid. I'm eating, eating less too. It's kind of like a, I guess that may be a side effect of, you know,
00:21:08
The Big Dog
in my brain to like kind of fill that void maybe of when I would be eating or when I, I just kind of drink water now. Like I don't, I'll drink the occasional like Coke zero or something in that slot, but I'm, I'm really just drinking water. That's, I mean, that's pretty much the only liquid that I drink nowadays.
00:21:27
The Big Dog
Um,

Adopting Healthier Beverage Choices

00:21:31
The Big Dog
and ahead.
00:21:31
David Isaacs
Yeah. though
00:21:34
David Isaacs
I was just going to say, yeah, just curious. Um, cause the reason I asked is that's always been like a, uh, something that cycles for me as far as like the water drinking and um you know trying to figure out like what works best for you or what can i try like differently uh with doing because i think that it's like a pretty big puzzle piece to me at least with the um you know hydration consistency to be able to um you know help in those other
00:22:05
David Isaacs
those other facets. And didn't make a good point too, of like the compounded interest of you're eating out less, you're cooking more, like learning those skills of how to be able to cook things and then also like cook things that you like to eat and saving money by not eating out as much.
00:22:25
David Isaacs
And the, yeah, the Coke Zero, the Zero Sugar Soda stuff, I mean, it's really big killer for me. uh, cause like everything in moderation. So, you know, if I was drinking a bunch of Coke and now I'm drinking less and it's zero sugar than that, you know, isn't that positive, but, uh, that it's like, Oh, you know, it's zero sugar.
00:22:35
The Big Dog
Yeah.
00:22:43
The Big Dog
Right.
00:22:45
David Isaacs
It might as well be water.
00:22:48
The Big Dog
Right, right. Yeah, exactly.
00:22:50
David Isaacs
yeah, I discovered, uh, like I'm a big root beer guy and I discovered, uh, like zero sugar mug root beer.
00:22:57
The Big Dog
Yeah, yeah, yeah, that'll do it.
00:22:59
David Isaacs
Yeah. That, that stuff is like, cause I say the, you know, zero sugar sodas are actually sweeter and they can be more addictive. And I was like, never around to that like thought of like, well, I mean, if the regular soda is available, like I'll drink it.
00:23:16
David Isaacs
But with the zero sugar root beer, it is just so sweet. So now I'll have a zero sugar Coke and I'm like, this, this sucks.
00:23:22
The Big Dog
Yeah.
00:23:26
David Isaacs
I want more zero sugar root beer.
00:23:26
The Big Dog
Right. Yeah.
00:23:29
David Isaacs
um but yeah the water thing i definitely need to get uh back on and also looking at our soundboard because you dropped the two years sober and the um you know caloric deficit consistency i wish we actually did have the pepper preparel maybe it's fire we do it uh you know but um yeah you should have brought this up in our pre-production meeting brian
00:23:49
The Big Dog
first Yeah. Yeah.
00:23:55
David Isaacs
and
00:23:56
The Big Dog
uh well well yeah exactly until that's until that's on our sideboard
00:23:57
David Isaacs
We'll cancel all our meetings going forward.

Workplace Conflict Management

00:24:02
The Big Dog
um
00:24:02
David Isaacs
But yeah, dealing with like who you had to deal with, it just like, i don't know if it comes with age or something too. and I'm sure you felt the same way and like how you're explaining it, but just like the irrationality of someone's argument of like, they they feel like they just have to argue about it or that it's not going as fast as they want. And they just,
00:24:25
David Isaacs
have to pound their fist. And it's like, dude, just chill out.
00:24:30
The Big Dog
I know. Well, with this person in particular, I i think it was just a case of they, ah because like the last few working sessions we had, we were kind of just like grinding and going through each category, like kind of one by one on things we should like consolidate or just eliminate one by one. um i just don't think this person wanted to do that stuff anymore. And rather than just being like that, Hey, like, let's come up with a new plan or like, you know,
00:24:59
The Big Dog
Whatever. It was just kind of like, I'll put on on me and like, I'm the problem. But like, you knew going into this that like you were going to be helping like this could be a scenario.
00:25:12
The Big Dog
um So I think.
00:25:17
The Big Dog
i I definitely wasn't yelling or anything in that moment. I was definitely stern with my voice and standing my ground because this person was is in leadership. like They are on the board who owns the company.
00:25:29
The Big Dog
and you know i didn't feel like I was going to lose my my job or anything, but like I was definitely standing in my ground. like I'm like, I'm not going to let this guy talk to me like that and let it be okay that you can talk to me like that.
00:25:42
The Big Dog
But I'm also not going to be get into a shouting match with somebody who owns a company like that wasn't i've already had have had that happen once it happened at my last job so um again kind of just like you said it kind of comes with maybe it comes with age maybe it just comes with experience um too like you know uh maybe it's one in the same thing but you kind of just have to be aware of um

The Big Dog
how you so like you can't can't go in and half cock like you definitely have to be aware of your your tone and everything and you know my my wife and i have been kind of going back and forth on how i you know how i'm coming across so it's it's something i've definitely been been working on but um i've also been working on standing my ground because a was quote unquote an easy person for most of my life but then i would and have these regrets of not saying anything like hey i didn't want to do this or you know i didn't really want to do that and I just kind of like built up um like you know being explosively angry for no reason and just kind of like letting it all compound compound that way so um I've just noticed
00:27:00
The Big Dog
And, you know, maybe again, cause it's just that I'm at this high point right now of me being able to be analytical of myself and kind of being aware of my surroundings of how I sound and, you know, everything and how I'm feeling.
00:27:13
The Big Dog
um I think I've just had rounds of, you know, and and and flashback a couple weeks ago, like it just seems like it was nonstop fighting with my wife and all this. So, you know, again, life is kind of cyclical, but you you analyze those moments and.
00:27:31
The Big Dog
You know, maybe actually start listening to the person who you're arguing with and maybe accept some responsibility and you kind of learn from that. So it's been a whole growth for me this year, I think, just in the last few months of just as a person. um I'm not saying I'm perfect or I should be a set example, but, you know, I'm.
00:27:50
The Big Dog
For me, ah you know, I'm expressing myself, how I feel about everything in a healthy way. And, you know, just putting my best foot forward, i guess.
00:28:03
The Big Dog
um it hasn't been It hasn't been an easy journey. I i will tell you that.
00:28:09
David Isaacs
Yeah. I don't think a lot of the, you know, those tough conversations are typically the ones that are most worth having or, you know, those tough days that, uh, are tough weeks or, um, lot of things that we go through, which is like trying to self betterment or difficult.
00:28:17
The Big Dog
Yeah. Yeah.
00:28:29
David Isaacs
And, um, the other thing too, i was going to say with the, your meeting is like, you know, how it's hard to tell sometimes too, how it's received, you know, um,
00:28:38
The Big Dog
yeah
00:28:40
David Isaacs
Like, he gets off and like, damn, this guy really stood up for himself. Like, that was pretty cool or something.
00:28:47
The Big Dog
yeah
00:28:49
David Isaacs
um But, yeah, I think at the end of the day, for ourselves and the interactions and things that we have, like, just try to take the positive takeaways. And if anything was there that, you know, you don't specifically like about how the interaction went or, you um you know things that you do in your daily life that you don't necessarily like or that you could feel could be better than you know just playing it out and think about yourself and um like you said put your best foot forward and um go from there
00:29:21
The Big Dog
Yeah, for sure. I think um
00:29:26
The Big Dog
another thing that has kind of taught me, um you know, I guess I'll use kind of cooking as a baseline because it's like I've been, oh yeah it'll probably take me about four hours, but I'll make, you know, probably 24, you know, like 24 or sorry, 21 meals for about, you know, breakfast, lunch and dinner. um for seven days.
00:29:53
The Big Dog
um so there's like more time, ah you know, back in and the rest of my day to kind of have the luxury of kind of maybe putting that towards working myself or, you know, spending it, cleaning up, cleaning up the house more. Like I've taken on more chores just because my wife isn't at home as much as she normally is. And it's like, well, our house can't falling into disrepair, you know, it's so, it's it's gotten to the point where it's like, it's messy and, you know, I've been completely lazy about this and I just need to kind of just step up

Taking Charge of Personal Health

00:30:28
The Big Dog
more. So, um I think kind of just when you take responsibility for yourself and, you know, you kind of just open up a whole new level of clarity that you didn't really even even know you had. But, you know, that that takes a lot of
00:30:46
The Big Dog
time and kind of effort to say like, Hey, what you're doing is not working. We need to kind of fix these things and, you know, dieting and, and exercising, like, you know, when you just kind of stop putting your excuse on God, now I sound like a fucking one of those gym influencers. It's like really when you saw this kind of like making excuses of like everyone else is a problem or anything. And you kind of just take power over yourself. Like you,
00:31:15
The Big Dog
It really is empowering. Like, I mean, it's hard to explain. Like, kind of puts you in just that positive, like, problem-solving mode of, okay, like, I'm overweight. I need to do something about this now. But, like, you're not going to be able to lose 100 pounds in one night.
00:31:37
The Big Dog
Um, so what are, like, what are we going to do about it? Like one throughout, like all, know, not literally, but you know, mentally throw outt all, like all your chips and your cookies and snacks and all that. And come with the plan. Like me losing 23 pounds has not been without a lot of trial and error.
00:31:56
The Big Dog
Like at first when I thought I had my calc, my, my calorie calculator, I thought like it was calculating my, what I'm supposed to be eating as far as like to lose weight. No, it was actually calculating my maintenance and like, I needed to go below that. These are all those things that I've kind of just have learned over the past. And especially about myself, like I rotate like a carb, having a different kind of carb every week. Like I'm not just eating, you know, chicken and rice every week. Like I'll rotate.
00:32:28
The Big Dog
And plus like, you know, it you're going to get different nutrients from different protein sources. So I'll, you know, rotate chicken or rotate ground beef. So it's not like the same thing. you know, I know that the popular term is I'm just eating slop, but, um you know, ah it's good slop. It's, you know, and kind of getting away from the point here, but it I guess it's just all about taking responsibility for yourself and and having ah an action plan. i mean, we yeah i talked about this in various degrees over our last few episodes, but you know, having further clarity about yourself is, um, just kind of helps one improve your, your life and just knowing how you're knowing yourself before, uh,
00:33:22
The Big Dog
ah knowing yourself paul just helps a lot. I mean, a lot of self-reflection.

Gratitude and Personal Growth

00:33:28
The Big Dog
I've been, I've been journaling like you too. Like I've been more on the gratitude things, things that have make me happy. And, you know, I'm very thankful for my immediate coworkers who kind of helped and understood. And even ah somebody else who was in on that meeting was like, yeah, no, you didn't have a,
00:33:46
The Big Dog
like the greatest meeting with Justin is his name. And, um you know, it kind of sucks, but, you know, and he's like, Karen, I'm here to help you. So there's in that moment, it really sucked for me, but, you know, knowing that I have the support and how I i know that I was comfortable, how I handled myself, um, means a lot to me. And I feel, feel great about everything moving forward. so
00:34:12
David Isaacs
Yeah, that's good.
00:34:15
David Isaacs
That's good to hear. And know we talked at length about a lot of things, but really that gratitude and that perspective that comes back to, like you had mentioned, of that problem-solving mindset.
00:34:28
David Isaacs
And, you know, the things that you want to solve are really the symptoms of the problems that you have.
00:34:31
The Big Dog
Yeah.
00:34:35
David Isaacs
Um, and trying to identify some of those problems, albeit triggers or bad habits or, know, some of that. So starting out small is definitely the way to go.
00:34:46
David Isaacs
um and you know, take on more as you see fit.
00:34:47
The Big Dog
yeah
00:34:50
David Isaacs
Um, you know, the big question is like, when do I know I can take on more? And, uh, yeah, it's kind of up to you and your own personal journey on, uh, know thyself, love thyself, better thyself.
00:35:04
David Isaacs
Um, so you can better yourself and the people around you by knowing some of those things but yeah it's good to hear you're doing really well um and yeah I'm not doing too shabby myself but yeah I think that's pretty much all I had if you want to take us away Brian with any other last thoughts
00:35:07
The Big Dog
Yeah.
00:35:31
The Big Dog
Yeah, no, I'm glad we're both kind of and a great, great spot. We both got, um you know, good foundations going forward. So, um yeah, let's just keep it moving. And, um you know, every every day is going to be a new test. So nothing's going to be ever be the same. It's just having a good foundation to to kind of build up from. So that's what we're all about here.
00:35:58
David Isaacs
righty.
00:36:02
The Big Dog
All right. Bye, everybody.
