Introduction to Stand Up Arkansas Voter Guide

Speaker
Hi, I'm Steve. And I'm Kelly. And we're with Stand Up Arkansas and we are giving you the voters guide, our recommendations across the state, different candidates running for different things.

Profile of Derek Huber: A Rising Political Figure

00:00:10
Speaker
We're going to zero in on Justice of the Peace up in Mountain Home, Baxter County. Baxter County. Baxter County. And a big, big, big recommendation to my friend Derek Huber. Yes, absolutely. We met Derek a few years ago now when he was running for Senate.
00:00:29
Speaker
And we're so we were so impressed with him in that race um and got to know him just after that as he became the chair of the Democrat Party in Baxter County.

Community Unity and Inclusive Events

00:00:40
Speaker
And we had an opportunity to be with them last Saturday night. You want to tell them a little bit about that?
00:00:46
Speaker
Oh, yeah. So y'all Baxter County is a real complicated area. It's also a very conservative area. It is. But Derek is the guy that kind of pulls people together. But this was the second time that he's asked me to speak at one of their dirt road Democrat events. And the Roddy Governance was up there and they had a band and so fight in it eric saying, Derek saying,
00:01:14
Speaker
But it was just

Impact of Leadership in Mountain Home

00:01:15
Speaker
good. It was camaraderie. It gave people a chance to listen to candidates that were running and bring people together under a common mission. And he's done that a few times. You know, he he gets outside the box on how he brings people together. You know, what I thought was really cool about that is um we went up for what we knew Derek just a little bit when he was running for Senate. And we went up when he became chair of the party there. Um, and he was new and just kind of learning about how, you know, he wanted to lead this effort. And, um, here we are. Is it been two years ago or a year a year, a year and a half. Yeah. Um,
00:02:00
Speaker
um it was fun to see that, you know, Derek, he's no longer the chair of the party because he is running an office and and was really focused on that. Um, but he is the leader, um, of a great group of people up there. That's growing. That is

Advocacy for Education and Tourism

00:02:18
Speaker
growing. I think they had like a hundred people at a lot of recent party meeting and there were probably at least that at the event the other night. Um, and you know, this is, we're talking about mountain home and,
00:02:31
Speaker
I don't think it's been terribly politically active prior to the past couple of years ago is when they started the, yeah again, and it's complicated. There's a party and a committee and there's different things going on up there. It's difficult. Either way, it's a great group of people um that Derek has, has really taken on and he is leading. And, um, and, and I believe that he,
00:02:54
Speaker
is going to represent the people of Mountain Home well in this JP role. um He is passionate about that community. He is a small business owner. um I don't know if it's a small business. I mean, he's got a really successful yeah media company that he runs out of Mountain Home. He has large clients. yeah He is well known in the community as a business person and he does great work. Which again, we can sit here and say how much we like Derek, and he's a leader and all that stuff, but when it comes down to being the right person for the job, not only do I think he'll represent the people, but he understands the inner workings of the ah what's going on within the city of Mountain Hill. We've talked about you know the structure of the school that needs to be redone, and and he understands the business side of it. He helps promote that area for tourism and that kind of stuff. um He did a bike tour throughout the whole, like the big Senate district. So of course it's in his JP district.

Campaign Priorities: Inclusivity and Transparency

00:03:50
Speaker
He understands the people and he he gets on the ground and
00:03:56
Speaker
It's not really about Democrat or Republican for him. It's about what's right. And what really first drew me to Derek was his website when he was running for... It's incredible. If y'all hadn't seen his website, go check it out.
00:04:10
Speaker
when the When he was running for Senate, he he was able to articulate um some tough issues that for some of us in rural Arkansas, but it's hard to articulate because you look this way, act that way. Or if you have a sleeve of tattoos on your arm, doesn't mean that you're this way. Or if you're black or white, doesn't mean you're this way.
00:04:34
Speaker
He has a real good way of articulating um a different subset of the population that needs a voice, right that that is the moderate voice that still believes in reproductive rights, that still believes in government transparency, that believes in public education.

Endorsement and Political Aspirations for Derek Huber

00:04:53
Speaker
And he is absolutely our leader in that. And for that reason, I endorse, heavily endorse Derek Huber. I'd like to see him in the Senate. I love to see him in the in an executive position someday. We've got a few around the state. He's one to watch. Will LaRue is another one. Such great talent out there. and You know he and his wife Ashley are so involved in the community and they're just doing the work every day. It's it's not about getting elected. It's not about what party that you're affiliated with or what organization you're from.

Encouragement for Voter Participation

00:05:25
Speaker
It's about the community of mountain home and he is passionate about it. And, um, you know, he, he just, he believes in the people. All of it. Like he, he's just the right, he's the right guy for the job. yeah So y'all get out there. Let's help get the word out for Derek and let's make sure that we vote this upcoming Tuesday. I'm Steve um'm kelly and we're with stand up. Thanks for listening.
