Extended Football Weekend

00:00:16
Speaker
What is up, goal line listeners? We are back. Week one has officially come and gone. So we have 16 NFL games to talk about, along with all the action from the college world, everything else in between.
00:00:27
Speaker
Jordan, what is going on, man? Yeah, man. it ah It felt like a long weekend. I will say that, like starting on Thursday night and then having a Friday NFL game and then ended up tonight with the Monday night game. Like it did feel like a long weekend of football. I mean, I loved it, obviously, but it definitely felt at times like, man, this week one has been like a week long.
00:00:50
Speaker
Yeah, if if you didn't get your fill of football this weekend, you may need to go and get evaluated, man. There was a ton of football. it It was definitely on the TV around here for what felt like about four days straight,

Arlington 8U Tigers Lose

00:01:01
Speaker
man. Got to check in first off, dude. Heartbreaking news from the Arlington 8U Tigers. We actually took an L this week, man. We lost to the freaking Briarcrest Saints 16-6.
00:01:11
Speaker
Boys just came out flat, man. Really, the game came down to three or four plays. And, you know, they they just all four of the game deciding plays. They beat us on man straight up. So they were a good team. I'd love to see them again in the playoffs. I think if we play that game 10 times, you know, we we win six or seven of them.
00:01:27
Speaker
but they were definitely better on Saturday morning and came prepared to play. So, dude, I forgot what it felt. Let's take an L on the football field, man. That's the first time we've lost in football since 2023, dude. Dude, that's the thing about tackle football too is if the kids ain't ready to go, and it is a Saturday morning, man, it's completely understandable. they're They're still kids no matter what. like Oh, yeah. Dude, just Saturday morning football is just โ€“ sometimes it's just tough for kids to get up for it. I mean โ€“ you get the weekend and schools out and all that stuff. It's just sometimes. games are nine o'clock too, dude. So we're we get to the field at eight o'clock to warm up, man. So yeah, it's definitely rough. I know it's a chore getting bred out. are the best
00:02:06
Speaker
our Our best little athlete, man, our starting running back, he his dad's one of the assistant coaches also. And he was like, yeah, I felt like i was going to having to fist fight my kid to get him out of bed. And this is our kid who's like, you know, little Christian McCaffrey. do you like He's always ready. You know what i mean? He's the one that you never got a freaking โ€“ get fired up and stuff. And even he was having trouble getting going. So it was a cloudy day too, you man. So just the the vibe was just off from the start.
00:02:29
Speaker
Uh, yeah, man. So we're getting back at it. We got a tough, tough stretch these next couple weeks. So we're going to find out really where we stand for the season. Um, but yeah, man, we, uh, that the The win streak ended at, I think, 12 games man across across a couple seasons of football. so It's a bummer, but chin up and we're moving forward.

Vikings vs Bears Analysis

00:02:46
Speaker
alright let's ah let's Let's start real quick because we're coming off hot of the Monday Night Football game. ah Vikings beat the Bears in what I can only describe as absolute atrocity from the Bears. I I have no idea what they were doing the entire fourth quarter. I mean, outside of their first offensive drive, the offense yeah did not look any different than it looked last year to me.
00:03:10
Speaker
Dude, outside, yeah. and i mean that And, you know, they had the lead at halftime. You take away that pick six they had, like this is not a close football game, man. Yeah, they got dominated second half. J.J. McCarthy, I think, was...
00:03:21
Speaker
Obviously, a little bit slow to come on. Box score still doesn't look super impressive. But if you watch the game, he looked really, really good that second half, man. I was thinking like, oh, God, you know, I was glazing J.J. McCarthy pretty hard in our preseason previews, man. I'm like, dude, I know Jordan's ready to clown me soon as we hit the air. But he looked really tough, man. Kept hung in there, was competing the whole time.
00:03:41
Speaker
And the plays finally showed up for them in the second half, man. So, I mean, if you're a Vikings fan, I think you got be encouraged, man. Team showed a lot of grit going into Chicago. Fired up Chicago crowd, man. Like you heard, even the commentator said, that was some of the loudest that they heard Soldier Field ever get when they got that pick six.
00:03:56
Speaker
but and And it would have been very easy to fold after that, man. It would have been very easy to fold. Week one on the road, and you say, all right, let's chalk it up and start playing it for week two. But they hung in there and fought. that I think that was a good win and some serious momentum for the Vikings. Yeah, absolutely.
00:04:09
Speaker
I agree. I'd be thrilled if i was a Vikings fan right

Caleb Williams' Performance Concerns

00:04:12
Speaker
now. If I'm a Bears fan, dude, the first half, the line blocked great. like That was their biggest problem last year. Like, oh man, the line can't keep Caleb Williams upright.
00:04:23
Speaker
Things like that. That was always the excuses you heard out of the Bears fans on what was wrong with Caleb Williams. Dude, he was clean the entire first half. He did not take a sack. um He was scrambling a lot, running around.
00:04:37
Speaker
ah dude I'm going to give it a couple of weeks before i really give my full, like whether or not I think he's a bust or not, but I'm really getting bust vibes out of Caleb Williams. Like there's just something about this dude that I don't know. It just does not scream leader to me. Maybe it's just me. I just, I don't see it with this dude right now. I,
00:04:59
Speaker
I don't know, man. Everything everybody said the Bears were going to fix and they were going to have Ben Johnson come in and call all these offensive plays and be the guru. There was a lot of throws that Caleb Williams just straight up out overthrew a guy. I mean, that DJ Moore one at the end of the game. i And if Cole Komet doesn't make that catch down the middle, which was an incredible catch, like I just, I don't know, man. The the metrics on on Caleb Williams are not looking good right now.
00:05:27
Speaker
Yeah, and he, uh, He just panics lot. Obviously, he doesn't have the greatest offensive line ever assembled blocking for him, but it seems like he just hits the panic button and just bails on plays very, very early.
00:05:39
Speaker
Bro, they just traded for Joe Tooney. He's an all-pro. They traded for Jonah Jackson, who was an all-pro, and they signed... um Drew Dahlman, which everybody was so high on this dude. As someone who's watched him for four years, his pass blocking is god-awful at times, and it seems like the Bears are going to lean pretty heavy on throwing the ball this season, and I do not like that for them. I mean, they put somebody over the nose, and that dude does struggle, but I mean, on paper, the O-line should be good, but we've literally โ€“ this is the third season of goal line. We've been saying it for years, dude. shoot Chicago and specifically Soldier Field is where good offensive players go to die, man. Like, it just โ€“ I don't know what it is, dude. That's a team โ€“ like, they just had to got to put it in the freaking, like, doctrine of the franchise. We're going to play defense and we're going to run the ball and play conservative on ah offense, man, because that's โ€“ anytime the Bears have been good, that's been the formula over the last freaking โ€“ you know, it was the 40th anniversary of the 85 Bears, and I think the 85 Bears kind of set the template for โ€“
00:06:37
Speaker
That's how you play football in Chicago because nothing else has ever worked since then. Yeah, I just โ€“ I don't know, man. I was just watching that game at certain points tonight, and it did not look any different than from Matt Eberflus to Ben Johnson. Like, and granted, it was the first game, so I'll give him a break. But the Bears did make it a ah point to play starters in preseason so they could come out hot.
00:06:59
Speaker
That first drive, i was like, oh, shit, they actually might be good. And then after that, it just, don't I don't know what happened. and it happens with a lot of teams. Like, you run those scripted plays right out of the gate. I mean, almost every team does it, and they just work because that's the scripted plays you've been working on all week.
00:07:16
Speaker
And then you get into your actual offensive sets, and sometimes it just doesn't work. Yeah, not not a good start, man. You really want to get off like on the right foot, man, with ah with the home opener Monday Night Football. And I think it's going be a lot of lot of uncomfortable conversations in Chicago this week. Yeah.
00:07:34
Speaker
All right, let's get into college football.
00:07:38
Speaker
All right, let's โ€“ No, no, wait for it. Oh, God, hate this football.
00:07:46
Speaker
By the way, I'm not the only one that says they hate this song. We've had other people talk about, can you guys replace this song?
00:07:55
Speaker
When Shador's out of the league, that's when we'll replace the song. all right that that's I'll make that deal with the listeners. Until then, it's going to be perfect timing when it's time to talk college football. all right What do you want to start with? Do you want to start with my glazing of Nebraska or do you want to start with your glazing of Tennessee? like There's no way around this.
00:08:12
Speaker
I mean, I think Nebraska was definitely a little bit more impressive. It was at least against a 1A school. Tennessee, ain't a whole lot to say about yes tennessee i wentever East They did set the school record for points.
00:08:23
Speaker
So, you know, if you're going to play a cupcake, dude, yeah, i might as well set the record for most points ever scored. Think about the legacy there at Vols football. and They never scored more points than they did on Saturday. So that's pretty dang cool.
00:08:34
Speaker
If you're Nico, you got to be sick, man. you know UCLA, they got upset by UNLV. don't even know if that's necessarily upset. They got beat by UNLV. um and you know Who knows? I couldn't even tell you who they're playing. Meanwhile, ah Joey Aguilar is going leading the Vols against the number four ranked Georgia Bulldogs in front of 100,000 freaking screaming maniacs on Saturday. like just what a what What a drop-off, man, that you willingly made happen on your own.
00:08:59
Speaker
I feel bad for the dude. I just think he got some really, really bad advice. And it happens, if you're the Vols, dude, you got to be like, dude, what a freaking blessing this turned out to be, man. Like, Jaguar looks like the real freaking deal so far. Dude, I was talking about this with somebody the other day. Just the NIL and just like, I mean, a lot of these kids, are this is more money than they could ever make in their life. And then you get your parents involved in it. Yeah.
00:09:23
Speaker
It kind of sounds like that's what happened with Nico. His dad got involved. and which ah Dude, I'm not saying your dad your parents should not be involved. so I don't want anyone coming at me saying, like oh man he should have his parents involved. I'm not saying that at all.
00:09:37
Speaker
I'm just saying with the amount of money that's being thrown around now, there's so many people outside of the player that are making decisions. and Sometimes this is just what's going to happen at this point.
00:09:48
Speaker
Nico's Defer until further notice. He's going to be the poster child for like NIL gone wrong. Yeah. All right. Let's, ah let's go on to some Nebraska glazing. This, ah this firmly

Nebraska's Historic Win

00:10:00
Speaker
felt like a nineties Nebraska game. Like i just, I never expected that. I was thinking this was going to be like, don't know, 35, 42, somewhere. didn't expect that i was expecting like forty two to ten i just didn't think they'd cover thirty five You could tell by the middle third quarter, like, dude, they were just going to do whatever they wanted in that game.
00:10:24
Speaker
And, I mean, they pulled the starters out. They played 108 players on Saturday night. That was the largest margin of victory since 1982. I mean, you're you're covering some ground going all the way back to 1982 for the largest margin of victory. So...
00:10:38
Speaker
Yeah, extremely encouraged by what I saw Saturday night. Again, it is Akron. I understand that. But Nebraska hasn't done that in a really long time. Like, it's been a long time since I watched Nebraska just absolutely put their foot on the throat of somebody and just take it away from them. So yeah I was very encouraged by it. But again, I understand it was Akron.
00:10:59
Speaker
Well, now and they got the ah the absolute juggernaut of Houston Christian coming to town for week three, dude. I hate that. ah ah This is one thing that โ€“ no, no, no i'm just not I'm not saying just Nebraska. I'm i'm saying as a whole. like this This week two slate was one of the worst college football slates I've ever seen in my life.
00:11:19
Speaker
And the NCAA is not going to do anything about it, so it is what it is. They are going to reward you if you lose to ah to a good team. I think you should devalue wins to shitty teams like what Nebraska's playing this week, what Tennessee just played. The Huskers versus the Huskies, man. Yeah, it's going to be a massacre. I just...
00:11:39
Speaker
And the worst thing is, is like I think that should have been the game they played in week two, and then they should have played Akron in week three. At least that's a D1 team that you're playing the week before you play Michigan. like I do not love that this is who they're playing this week, the week before we play Michigan. like I just...
00:11:56
Speaker
I don't like it as a fan. If I'm an athletic director or head coach, like the guys making the decisions on the schedule and stuff, I feel like I'm probably, I don't think I would schedule a tough non-conference game, dude. Especially if you're in the Big Ten or SEC, you don't got to worry about it, dude. Now, if you're below the Big Ten or the SEC, like even if you're the AC or Big 12, yeah, you probably want to have a beefed up resume because it's going to get, you know, splitting hairs on who gets those playoff spots. But du as long as you put together a decent record in those conferences, going be fine. I feel like i mean I definitely know what you're saying, man, about,
00:12:29
Speaker
getting the consideration on the tough schedule, but I feel like it's never worth risking a loss, dude. I feel like you're better off just take catching the flack for playing cupcakes non-conference and you know and and do handling your business on your mandatory tough games that you've got to play. and If you're in one of those conferences, man, most of the time your conference schedule is going hard enough that it's nobody's really goingnna be talking shit about your non-conference slate anyways. The other thing, too, is is like those teams like Akron and Houston Christian and East Tennessee State, like they rely on those games for their athletic department. and They get paid so much money.
00:13:02
Speaker
Yeah, especially that Houston Christian and East Tennessee State, man. they probably that that Those ass-whoopings those teams took probably are probably covering... the athletic department's expenses for the next year. Yeah, they're racking a million dollars to go to those games. Like, i mean, it's just it's asinine money and they have to do it. So it's never going to end. I'm not saying that. It's just don't know, man. When you have slates like we just had in week two, it's just kind of frustrating to watch as a fan.
00:13:28
Speaker
The quicker we can get to my idea of the top, you know, 40 to 48 schools just breaking off and being a super conference and running it like its own league, like the NFL, the better off we're going to be. Yeah, I don't know, dude. I don't want to devalue 70 other college football programs, though. Like, I get it. The majority of them are never going a chance at it, but I still want them to have a chance at it in the end. Like, if you just do a straight-up super conference and then everybody else has no chance, like...
00:13:56
Speaker
It kind of sucks for some of those schools because then you you never get the the Cinderella runs like Boise State. like That stuff never happens. and Granted, I know they got beat last year, and it's just it's just one of those things, man. I just want to see teams like that get a shot.
00:14:10
Speaker
I agree, dude. in In theory, yes, I agree 100%, but I just feel like in real life, like like you said, dude, it's it's not basketball, man. It's just it's almost impossible, dude, for โ€“ for some of these schools to compete with these teams that are basically like minor league NFL teams. I agree. But I mean, if a team goes 12 and 0 and they've played a couple of good teams on their schedule and they're good enough to get in, I still want to see him get in. I mean, yeah, granted, you're going to have games where SMU is getting smoked by somebody, but still want to see it. think how it'd be if we just had like four 12 team divisions, dude, and like,
00:14:43
Speaker
just There were no cupcakes, man. it was just These teams were just playing against each other every season. and I think that would be badass. Again, that'll never happen because the lower schools need those games for money, and college football's not just going to let a bunch of college programs die. Yeah. um let's Let's talk briefly on the South Florida-Florida game.

South Florida's Rise

00:15:00
Speaker
Dude, South Florida still getting zero respect even after beating Florida, which I think is absolutely insane. I mean, they beat Boise State and Florida in consecutive weeks. We got to give ah props to our mutual friend, James. He's in our college football group text, dude. He called it right before the opening kickoff. yeah He said, I think USF's winning this game. And they did. it It was impressive, too, man. It was a good game.
00:15:23
Speaker
um Yeah. Slugfest. Fast forward to Saturday night. I have no idea what I was watching out of Michigan on Saturday night. I think Michigan thought it was a scrimmage, man. Michigan was treated like it was a joint practice, and they were just going to run a few plays and see how the offense is looking, dude. They did not look like they were competing.
00:15:39
Speaker
to win a game, to sit them on a path to potentially get, get back into the playoff. They just paid a quarterback, however much money. I mean, they paid this dude shitload of money to come in and it's just like, they don't want to take the reins off and they just, they don't want to to make a ah bad play.
00:15:55
Speaker
i do not understand what they were doing Saturday night. Obviously i wanted them to be undefeated when they came to Lincoln. um i just, I did not understand at all what they were doing in that game.
00:16:06
Speaker
Yeah, not impressive at all all. right, here's a fun one. We're just going to do this. This is just just for fun. How many points does Oregon beat Northwestern by this weekend? You know, I saw the point spread was only 27.5, dude. When I saw that in the format, I was thinking it had some kind of crazy point spread, like 40-plus or something, dude. But ESPN's showing it.
00:16:26
Speaker
It's only a 27-point spread. I still say... I think Oregon beats them by, I'll say, 44 points. Dude, what hold on. I got to look at what the Oregon... Yeah, Oregon was only favored by 28.5 over Oklahoma State, and they won 69-3.
00:16:41
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, 27 points is still a crazy line. But, dude, I don't know i don't know who who wouldn't put money on them to cover, dude. I mean, Vegas is obviously pretty pretty freaking smart, dude. Like, ah you know, we'll get the million dollar. Jordan had a pretty bad beat on one of his bets. Yeah. um Or at least one of the legs of his parlays this week. But, dude, I feel like 27, I feel like that's ridiculously low, man. Like, do we got, I'm pulling it up on you, man. Maybe we got some weather coming in, dude.
00:17:08
Speaker
that's your It's in Chicago, man. So Northwestern so far has lost twenty three to Tulane, and then they beat Western Illinois 42-7. Dude, I think Oregon might throw 60 on them, honestly.
00:17:21
Speaker
i just think that that's why I put this in here. I just think that game's going to get ugly really fast. Yeah, that's ah that's a weird line for sure, though. that nebra Northwestern's off the money line. You can't even put a money line bet on them, man. Yeah, it's wild to me. That's the only reason I put that on there.
00:17:38
Speaker
Okay, let's ah let's talk about the top 25 games and pick these games. um I put Clemson and Georgia Tech on here just because I think Georgia Tech should be ranked, so we'll consider this the top 25 game. think they're going to beat Clemson, too, man. Clemson, obviously, they lost week one. Then they had issues putting away freaking Troy, dude, my alma mater.
00:17:55
Speaker
Yeah, I think Clemson is in deep shit in this game. I think Georgia Tech wins as well. The only thing that scares me about Georgia Tech is they've gone back-to-back games with three turnovers in the first quarter. like Someone's going to end up taking advantage of that and just stomping a mud hole in them, but I'm confident enough. like The way Clemson has looked through two weeks, I i don't know who they can beat, honestly, at this point.
00:18:18
Speaker
yeah i'll be Yeah, I'm not going to be shocked if Georgia Tech handles their business there in Atlanta. All right, let's ah next one, South Florida versus Miami this week. I think Miami wins. You know i'm a Carson Beck guy. I've been high on this dude going back to 2023.
00:18:33
Speaker
um i so i still say that Georgia's going to โ€“ I think Georgia would be the favorite to win the national championship if they if they still had Carson Beck at QB. um So I think they win, but I think South Florida gives them a ah big run for their money. I agree. I think South Florida stays in that game.
00:18:50
Speaker
It might be like a 14-point win for Miami, but i just I think South Florida stays in it until the fourth quarter. Yeah, Hurricanes ain't running away with this one, man. Yeah. uh next one texas a&m versus notre dame that's gonna be a good freaking game dude um i did not love what i saw at notre dame in the first week i mean maybe they figured it out and they're gonna run love this week but i did not love them i think they bounce back man i do think they i i like what i've seen at texas a&m so far but i do think notre dame bounces back man i have have a little bit of time to regroup um
00:19:25
Speaker
Yeah, I think we see them get back to basics. I think you're to see Jeremiah Love getting a ton of freaking carries. and And yeah, these guys I think Notre Dame gets back on the winning path. I think Notre Dame wins, but I i definitely think A&M's in it until the end.
00:19:41
Speaker
Then the big one, Georgia, Tennessee, Saturday night. Is that second Saturday afternoon afternoon? Yeah, this is going to afternoon, dude. So I think people are going peaking. don't think the crowd is going to be out of steam. You know, they're going to get the Vol Nation is going to get there early, dude.
00:19:57
Speaker
All lubed up. 2.30. That freaking stadium is going to be rocking. I think they're going win, man. It's been eight years since Tennessee's beat Georgia. Um... I think they find a way to get it done. they got the quarterback.
00:20:08
Speaker
Defense is still as stout as ever. It's going to be a ah slobber knocker, man. i you know ah To me, you know gun to my head with mortgage payments on I don't know if I'm making this bet, but for for just talking a little smack with my my best friend on the podcast, I think the Vols go in handle business, man, and get a...
00:20:23
Speaker
win a low-scoring, hard-fought game against the Bulldogs. I do not love what I've seen out of Georgia this year. like They did not look great last week against their cupcake. Maybe they're just saving it all for this week. But, dude, I just i don't think that their quarterback is that great. I just i i don't see it out of him, man.
00:20:44
Speaker
ah For that reason, I'm going to pick Tennessee. I just think Tennessee's got the better quarterback and the better i mean defense. You could say what you want. i just trust Tennessee's quarterback. quarterback more. All right. That's it for college.
00:20:56
Speaker
Let's move to the pros.
00:21:00
Speaker
All right. We'll open it up with the Falcons. Dude, this was my issue. and And I did bring this up for the last two weeks that the Falcons were not playing any starters in preseason.
00:21:13
Speaker
And they they just they started off really well with the scripted plays, got Bijan the ball in open space, and you saw what happened.

Falcons vs Bucs Missed Chances

00:21:21
Speaker
I just, I don't know, man. There were so many misplays in the first half.
00:21:25
Speaker
Dude, they got two three and outs for on the Bucs, like just legitimate three and outs to start the game. They were already up 7-0, and they just floundered it away. I just, I felt like they should have been up 14 points after the first quarter, and they weren't. They just, I don't know, man. They just, they waste so many opportunities, and You can't do that. I mean, dude, they held the Bucs' offense in check. Like, Baker threw for like 170. I mean, Bucky got what he does, but I just overall felt like the Falcons' defense did enough for them to win that game.
00:21:57
Speaker
Granted, when it counted in the fourth quarter, they ended up losing, but... I don't know, man. I just โ€“ I feel like you got to find a way to win that game, and it's frustrating. I told Seth yesterday was not as mad as I usually am after a Falcons game just because โ€“ Proud you, dude. That one definitely would have been โ€“ Jordan, years past, that one would have freaking up the blood pressure for at least a couple days. Dude, I just โ€“ I decided before the season, I liked the NFL way too much. Like I do love the NFL. And a lot of times it would just ruin the four o'clock window for me of even watching football after the Falcons would lose.
00:22:29
Speaker
and just decided this year, like, dude, just sit back and enjoy it. If they win, they win. Now, granted, if they have an absolute meltdown loss, obviously I'll be pissed. But ah yesterday wasn't a meltdown loss. It was just, they didn't make enough plays when they needed to.
00:22:43
Speaker
um there was you know You talked about the when your team loses that early window. There was nothing worse than โ€“ it's not so much like that nowadays, but that run from 2019 to 2021 when like you'd watch your team lose in like the most dumbass fashion. And then like it clicks over to the late window and like the Chiefs are already up 7-0 and just got a three and out. And it's like 11 minutes to go in the first quarter. Yeah, but it's just โ€“ like I said, they didn't โ€“ They didn't embarrass me by the way they played on Sunday. Like, they they played a good game. It's just they didn't make enough plays in the end, and they lost. I mean, it a three-point loss. Like, how pissed can I honestly be about that? And it's not like it was a three-point loss where the Bucs threw a Hail Mary with one second left and scored. Like, those are the kind of games that pissed me off. I mean, this was just a hard-fought game, and they just came out on the short end of it.
00:23:30
Speaker
Dude, i really i I hate to get this far into the weeds, man, on a ah show where we're literally covering coast-to-coast college football law and NFL. i absolutely They ended up getting the the tie touched air the touchdown to take the lead, man. But I absolutely hated that call on first and goal at the one-yard line. And they do you know basically a horizontal. It wasn't quite a reverse, but it was like a horizontal handoff, dude.
00:23:53
Speaker
taking the ball back to the four yard line. It was similar to Texas when they had a chance to, to really press Ohio state last year. And they ran, uh, think it was like a jet. They ran like a toss sweep, um, on the so adverse two yard line. Yeah, dude. Like, dude, I get that. It's not sexy, man.
00:24:10
Speaker
you got first and goal at the one yard line, dude, just run QB sneak, man. Cause it would have done, you know, there was, ah there was ah about two minutes and 34 seconds on the clock at that point. So it serves two purposes. One, i think it's your best chance to score. in And two, if you don't score, you can at least bleed the clock. You know what i mean? Or make Tampa Bay start burning some timeouts, dude.
00:24:26
Speaker
Um, I just, I hate taking, it's always, that's one of just like my like biggest things in football. When you get down short yardage, I hate taking the ball that far backwards, man. Like, yes, no, I agree with you. the The one counterpoint I'm going to make to you, and this was the one thing during this entire game that pissed me off.
00:24:44
Speaker
The one place that you do not run the ball against the Bucs is up the middle because they have Vita V and their linebacking core is always good. True. The Falcons literally kept running Bijan right off center, and he was running right into Via Vea the entire game. It's like, how the fuck did you game plan to run at Via Vea? Like, how is that your plan? It's not like we have an all-pro center to block Via Vea, and even if you did, you're still not running at him.
00:25:11
Speaker
It's just that the play calling, the coaching staff for the Falcons is god-awful. I i have no faith in Raheem Morris or Zach Robinson as the offensive coordinator. That's sad to say in week one, but I just โ€“ I have no faith in either one of those guys.
00:25:26
Speaker
Zach Robinson continually does stupid shit, keeps running wide receiver screens. The Falcons' wide receivers outside of Drake London cannot block, and they continue to do it. It just โ€“ it's maddening to me that they just โ€“ they've done the same thing they did it last year and they're doing it again this year where they just run plays that there's no way that they're going to be successful.
00:25:48
Speaker
Because, I mean, dude, when they open it up, like, you can see it. When they open it up and they let Penix make the decisions and go through his reads and stuff, they can move the ball pretty easily. Like, you saw it, yes. or You saw it at times yesterday. And yeah just like that first drive, I talk about it all the time. Descripted plays.
00:26:07
Speaker
These are the plays you practice the most. That swing pass to Bijan was like a thing of beauty. You just get him one-on-one with linebacker, and of course he's going to cook him. Like, Where was that creativity the rest of the game?
00:26:19
Speaker
don't know, man. it just It gets frustrating for me just because the coaching staff is not good. I think that's the most disappointing part for me. I feel like they have plenty of weapons and the talent is there. I mean, you even texted me yesterday. You're like, dude, this team is loaded because they are. I mean, if you look at their roster, it's a really good roster. It's just like what's going to hold them back and it's going to be coaching all year. Like the coaching staff is not good. and What what what are you doing if they if they go oh to man? so i'm not gonna
00:26:52
Speaker
Dude, when I saw the schedule come out, I was completely realistic with myself on who they're playing the first couple weeks. like It's not out of the realm of possibility that they're one and three heading into their bye. They got Washington in the first three four weeks as well. like I'm not going to completely blow it up if they end up oing to Granted, I'm going to be in Minnesota this weekend, but Oh, going to the game this weekend? Yeah.
00:27:16
Speaker
Nice, dude. So, it's just it's one of those things, man. it I mean, they opened the season with two really tough games. One was a divisional opponent, and now they've got to go to Minnesota for their home opener fresh off that win. So, I think I feel better, though, that the Vikings won tonight because I feel like if they would have lost a really close game, they would have been pissed on Sunday night. So, don't know, man.
00:27:37
Speaker
It is what it is. All right. let's Speaking of it is what it is, let's talk about the Titans. How did they not win this game, dude?
00:27:48
Speaker
Because their their offense is absolute ass outside of Cam Ward, man. like that they I cannot be any more impressed with the way that Cam Ward played. um He looked in command out there, that in control.
00:28:01
Speaker
But the offensive line still sucks. The same offensive line that cut at least one, probably two years off of Ryan Tannehill's run with the Titans. Receivers dropping passes, dude. Like Calvin Ridley, I can't, i I'm mad at myself for getting caught up in the preseason hype, man.
00:28:15
Speaker
And all the offseason talk about what a connection him Cam Ward had. He absolutely let Cam Ward down to the point where, That last drive, you know, the Titans, despite all the bad breaks they had, they had a chance to tie it up at the end.
00:28:28
Speaker
They're driving. Cam puts a straight up strike on Calvin Ridley at the seam, about 20 yards upfield, dude. They would have been getting close to you know, within striking positions, start taking some shots at the end zone. Straight up bounces off his hands. They had a shot. Cam Ward's dad had to get up and walk down his aisle and take walk up a couple steps, up up the the the stadium steps, just to kind of like blow off some steam to keep from just โ€“ I'm assuming losing his freaking mind.
00:28:52
Speaker
Um, very frustrating to watch, man. I think the future, the future is definitely bright for cam board. I think they, you know, I, I was down on him getting picked. I I'll go ahead and admit at least off week one, I think I was totally wrong. He looks like just the dude out there.
00:29:05
Speaker
Um, But I have very little faith that the 2025 Titans are going to give him the the support to reach you his highest potential. How the hell did they hire an offensive coach, no less the son of one of the best offensive line coaches in the history of the NFL and Bill cap bill Callahan, and their offensive line is still absolute dog shit? like i I don't know, man. Just something about that just does not seem right to me at all. They they should least steal the block.
00:29:36
Speaker
I'll be shocked if Callahan is back after this season, man. I think they gave him a year with Cam Ward to see what he looks like. But, dude, you see a ton of โ€“ you know, they led the league in penalties last year. They had a ton of penalties, man. At one point, they had more penalty yards than they had than they had passing yards.
00:29:49
Speaker
um It was just, you know, not a great performance. Yeah. I would say that I think the Broncos came out a little bit flat. Maybe they were, um you know, maybe they thought the Titans were going to be more of pushover

Titans' Offensive Struggles

00:30:00
Speaker
because the players were playing hard.
00:30:01
Speaker
But just the boneheaded penalties at the worst times, drop passes, just a poorly prepared team, man. or They really were, dude. It's a little bit of a miracle that it up being as close as it was that game.
00:30:14
Speaker
The defense played so well, though, man. I mean, they got three turnovers off Bo Nix. that Special teams was good, man. They had some they had some nice returns. ah They got a muffed punt that they they recovered.
00:30:26
Speaker
Yeah, I think the defense special teams played good and Cameron Ward played good, but he can't do it by himself, man. At the end of the day, him by himself as a one-man army was able to produce four field goals. That was it.
00:30:37
Speaker
Yeah, did not โ€“ I mean, I got to watch very little of that game, but just like the stuff that I saw, just... Yeah, noting the position player is not encouraging at all. like i yeah I did not โ€“ Tony Pollard played decent. Tony Pollard was good. It's just kind of what you're going to expect out of him. like That's just how he's going to play. but He's not any kind of game changer, though. if if he's If he's your number one option on offense, you're probably not going that far. he's he's He could be a good contributor on a good team, but I don't think he needs to be like the bell cow for anybody. No. i
00:31:10
Speaker
Dude, I'm just really let down by their skill position players. Yeah. obviously Ridley, that's not good enough. I mean, Elik Amanor, he's going to be really good. It's just he's going to need time.
00:31:24
Speaker
i don't know, man. There's just not a lot there for him, I guess. But encouraging nonetheless, because I thought they were going to be blown out on Sunday. So, i mean, if nothing else, that's an encouraging start.
00:31:37
Speaker
um Let's go back to Thursday night, Eagles, Cowboys. Yeah. I've never seen a game start like that in my life where the best player on the field gets ejected for spitting on the quarterback. Like, yeah, well, it's just clown show, dude. It was stupid all the way around, man. I did.
00:31:56
Speaker
I feel like there's been a little bit overblown, like the pearl clutching. Like, you know, he spit at the dude. He didn't spit in his face. Right. Like he clearly like put the trajectory down, kind of put it on his chest a little bit, man. Like,
00:32:07
Speaker
I wouldn't have been... you know If they would have just hit him with the unsportsmanlike conduct and kept it at that, I wouldn't have been like losing any sleep over it, man. The whole whole thing was just goofy to me, man. Between Dak Prescott and Jalen. Dak Prescott's got more restraint than me because if somebody spits on me like that, they're getting faded. The ref was standing right there, dude. He could not have done it a worse freaking time, dude. Why not do it at halftime going into the tunnel or something, man? It's just so dumb, though. Your team... That changed that game. Jalen Carter not playing completely changed that game. I think, yeah, it gave the, one, just the actual impact X's and O's side of, and two, just think it gave the Cowboys a boost. It's like, all right, bam, dude, off the rip, man, freaking, you know, Uno reverse, their best players off the field the rest of this game. Let's go.
00:32:54
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, there's not really a ton else to talk about in this game other than, i guess, CeeDee Lamb having butterfingers at the end of the game. Yeah. never seen him do that like i didn't yeah that was very odd just like the whole that played good man i think that you know we kind of we both kind of said that's exactly how that game was going to go dude we thought that it was going to be a big emotional night for the eagles and maybe it doesn't necessarily translate to a lot of energy on the field and the the cowboys played pretty decent man uh i thought dak played i thought dak played a really good game but yeah see obviously i know cd lambs got to be kicking himself with some of those drops he had
00:33:28
Speaker
That lightning delay just completely cooked that game, too. You could just tell it was really hard for them to get back up after that lightning delay. Dude, think it was approaching. was like or shortly after midnight, man, by the time we were hitting the fourth quarter in that game. That's late to be doing anything.
00:33:44
Speaker
That's really fucking late to be playing tackle football. hundred percent 100%. Let's go to Friday night. Chargers beat the Chiefs. Dude, i Chargers, I came really out of this game really impressed by the Chargers, man.
00:33:58
Speaker
Looked like, dude, they looked like the classic, like, Jim Harbaugh 49ers, dude. Tough defense. Smash mouth offense, man. shit Herbert's a freaking robot back there. I was to say, that was less smash mouth and more Herbert just slinging that ball around. Like, dude, that is not at all what I expected from the Chargers offense. I mean, he threw the ball.
00:34:19
Speaker
34 times. like That seems like a lot for a Harbaugh-led team. um They ran the ball 25 times. Yeah, that that was a really good win for the Chargers and definitely one that they needed to get right out of the gate.
00:34:33
Speaker
um let's talk about a game that nobody had any idea what this was going to look like. Steelers and Jets had the lowest over-under for the week. And so, of course, we get a shootout in that game. Dude, they was right there with the freaking Bengals and Ravens for the best game of week one, man. that was That was a very entertaining game.
00:34:52
Speaker
Yeah, it it was a really good game, and it wasn't it was Bill's Ravens, not Bengals Ravens. Yeah, my bad, yeah. um While we're talking about the Bengals, dude, again, come thank God they won, but Jesus. Browns should have won that game, dude. The Browns outplayed them. Yeah, it's...
00:35:08
Speaker
Flacco got two picks and they both went off receivers hands and they should have been caught. Like they should have easily won that game. I, I do not understand the Bengals at all, man. It's like they come out week one and they're like, all right, man, just like we just talked about Michigan. All right. Scrimmage week one. Let's just get this game over with. I, I just don't get it, man. They still were sleepwalking in that game. Luckily they won. Uh, dolphins.
00:35:32
Speaker
Are they the worst team in the league? Yes, that was weird, man. You think what two of their playing a Colts team, ah you know, I mean, I picked them to win, dude, on my million dollar bets, man. I thought that was going to nice way to get a road win to start the season. I don't know.
00:35:47
Speaker
It seemed i an X factor that I really did not take into account at all. was that it was going to be Jim Ursae Day. Obviously, he was a little bit of a character around the league, but if you watch the pregame stuff, ah that stadium was jacked, man. I think there was an emotional charge in the stadium that day. Freaking Peyton Manning was there at halftime, dude. So I think there may have been some X factors to this one that you know we didn't take into account.
00:36:13
Speaker
I'm going to give the Dolphins another week, man, before hit panic. It did not look good, though. I will say that, dude. It did not look good at all, no matter if who who they're freaking honoring. If Daniel Jones is going off on you, man, and that other team's offense is literally getting points every single drive, I think that's some major red flags.
00:36:28
Speaker
But I'm going to give it one more week before I i smash the panic button on the Dolphins. Okay, over or under week six of when Tyreek Hill requests a trade? I'd say under, man. He already pump faked asking out once.
00:36:43
Speaker
So we we know they had the thoughts have at least already been there. I think it's going to be by week four, honestly. And I did see an article, and this was just by an NFL writer, but he's like, if the Dolphins do seriously consider tyre trading Tyreek Hill, the Falcons should be the first team that are calling.
00:37:01
Speaker
Dude, i think I think the Chiefs reunion would be in order, man. i think him I think going back to the Chiefs would be just what the doctor ordered for both parties, man. I get what you're saying, but there's just something about that dude.
00:37:13
Speaker
I just don't think he'll do it, man, because he's going to look bad if he goes back at that point. Yeah, is is as spectacular as he's been at times with the Dolphins, I think you know the Chiefs definitely knew what they were doing by moving on. He's just โ€“ I don't know. you know it's it's It sounds weird because you know the Chiefs obviously won a Super Bowl with him, but I don't know if he's a dude that you can necessarily consistently win year after year with, man. He's just he's he's a weird guy, man. first As spectacular and incredible as an athlete he is, he's a he's a weird guy, and obviously he's got yeah you know a little bit of a chaotic life off the field. Yeah. Next game.
00:37:49
Speaker
Packers just absolutely beat up on the Lions. like Yeah, they look good. I'm trying to, because there was a lot of people that like, are the Lions just not good anymore? I think this is more about the Packers being really good than the Lions being really bad. i i still think the Lions are going to be fine.
00:38:06
Speaker
Yeah, Lions still got a loaded roster, dude. The culture's still there. There is two brand new coordinators, man. i think that's kind of, you know, both their coordinators got head coaching jobs, dude, which is a testament to how good that team was, but also, you know, how well thought of that the coaches were. That team was always prepared, you know, ready to go, fired up, seemed like they had a solid game plan on both sides of the ball. So I think, you know, maybe this is a year where they're not starting off absolutely on fire out the gates.
00:38:31
Speaker
And, you know, it it takes four or five weeks, man, for the this coordinators to really get a rhythm underneath them and and for everybody to adjust. Not that they're making like wholesale changes to what they were doing, but it's always going to be different when you got new people calling the plays. It's one thing about Dan Campbell. He doesn't call the plays on either side of the ball. So I think this is a bigger deal than it would be for most teams with swapping out both coordinators.
00:38:52
Speaker
Yeah, I agree. um And then... I mean, dude, if this ends up being game of the year, I will not be surprised at

Bills' Comeback vs Ravens

00:39:01
Speaker
all. Like, if we come down to week 18 and we're like, what was game of the year?
00:39:05
Speaker
Bills and Ravens on Sunday night just put on an absolute classic football game. like Josh Allen hit the yeah the Hulk Hogan comeback, dude. It was like a tribute to, the you know, Hulk passed away a little over a month ago, dude. Freaking, they had him...
00:39:19
Speaker
down to the count right for the three kicked out and hulked up and just went the fuck off, dude. Freaking, ah you know, 16 points in the last four minutes of the game, man. Like they were dead to rights. It was, it, it, it looked close. You know, it was seen at one point, seemed more likely that the Ravens were going to get close to 50 points, man. I i thought the Ravens were going to get the ball back and tack on another touchdown, dude. And then for, you know it, man, the bills are just lighting up the scoreboard.
00:39:42
Speaker
Derek Henry fumbles, which that almost never happens. Um, And yeah, man, and the defense just collapsed, dude. If I'm the Ravens, man, I get it, dude. You know, the the the hot take will be like, oh, Derrick Henry cost in the game, dude. It wasn't hot. Yeah, he's the one that freaking helped them put up 40 points, man. And him fumbling has nothing to do with the defense absolutely collapsing, dude. don't know if the defense had just already unhooked the shoulder pads and thought the game was over, but it seemed like from the moment that fumble happened, like the defense had absolutely no answer for anything the Bills wanted to do. Yeah, I'm definitely not blaming Derrick Henry because, like you said, he was as big of a reason as any that they were up that much. yeah
00:40:22
Speaker
Josh Allen is just, he's never going to give up. That team's never going to give up with him as their leader, man. It's just it's just one of those things, and The funny thing is, is middle of probably towards the end of the third quarter, me and Seth were texting back and forth and says like Ravens far and away the most impressive team of week one.
00:40:40
Speaker
Dude, there was a point in that game where i was like, shit, this team might not lose this year, man. Like they they are loaded. I'm going to say something crazy. Even with that collapse in the last four minutes, I still think the Ravens are the most impressive team I saw, dude. yeah Like I get that at that ending, the last four minutes were horrible, dude.
00:40:58
Speaker
But what they did that first 56 minutes were, I think that's a little bit more indicative of what kind of team they were. And the like you said, yeah I think Josh Allen just, you know, he, he went in the phone booth, came back out with the Cape on and, and strapped the team up for victory. And and that, that fumble from Derek Henry, that was all they needed, right? They just needed somebody. They needed that little crack in the door and then they kicked it open it came storm back at the end. So take that away from the bills, At the the day, you are what your record says you were, and they're better than the Ravens last night's 60 minute game for a reason.
00:41:24
Speaker
But, uh, you know, again, I'll be shocked if it's not one of these two teams duking it out with, uh, with Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs, man, to to rep the AFC this year. Dude, if those two teams, if one and or both of them get beat by the Chiefs again, then I'm just assuming that Patrick Mahomes has some kind of black magic over him, dude, because I don't know how โ€“ I still think that Chiefs team we saw on Friday night is going to be a good football team, man. um But I don't know how they're going to roll out and compete with what we saw out of the Bills and Ravens, man.
00:41:54
Speaker
I agree. ah Exactly. i i have no idea โ€“ But the crazy thing is, I feel like I'm still going to nervous as hell yeah if if I'm a Bills and Ravens fan and, that you know, freaking Travis, Travis Kelsey and Patrick Mahomes are coming to town in the playoffs, dude. Like, it's just something about that team, man. Like, they just know how to freaking win. I can't lie. Like, I know the Falcons are not winning the Super Bowl this year. I'm i'm not.
00:42:18
Speaker
and stupid I'm rooting for the Bills or Ravens to win the Super Bowl. i got I want to see one of those two guys get a Super Bowl, man. i Yeah, I'd love to see Josh Allen get one. I'd really love to see Derrick Henry get one, man. I'll go Ravens, dude.
00:42:31
Speaker
If I had to pick a sentimental favorite out of the the super heavyweights this year, I'm going Ravens just because I feel like Derrick Henry is just such a freaking talent, man. and I'd love to see him get a ring. Yeah.

Saints' Uniform Controversy

00:42:41
Speaker
That's it for week one. You want to do picks?
00:42:45
Speaker
ah We do got a mini uniform watch segment real quick. So let's hit the music. This was a one.
00:43:05
Speaker
All right, so there's one bold choice, dude. Jesus. I was not in a fan, dude. The Saints rock the gold alternates, dude. I hated those jerseys, man. that I feel like it could have worked if they went... I don't know how they came up with that shade of gold, dude, because I feel like the Saints typically have like a darker, like more rich gold color, but this was like a pale gold, pissed... It looked like ah like the Coors Banquet can.
00:43:27
Speaker
Yeah. Our coach shirts that they got us for coaching the the A.E. Tigers this year were that color. And like we wore them to the first like Meet the Tigers night. And then I was like, dude, I'm never wearing this fucking shirt again the rest of the season. cause It looks so horrible, man. It's just a bad color.
00:43:41
Speaker
doesn't spark intimidation at all. And the Saints, for as much as I hate them, thanks they actually got some really, really freaking nice uniforms. So I don't know why you would ever โ€“ they need to put these in the freaking closet and and never break them back out. Those jerseys should be burned. Those absolutely awful.
00:43:56
Speaker
Horrible, man. The Saints, the they they don't need alternates. Those throwbacks they wear sometimes look cool, but the Saints got a great โ€“ they got a great kit regardless, dude. Like they don't need to be messing around with it, man. For sure.
00:44:08
Speaker
All right, let's get to, are we to picks? Let's do picks. Yeah.
00:44:29
Speaker
How did we do last week? All right. So, Seth wins week one. Let's go. three games me and you differed on, you took all three of them. Like, ah there was no โ€“ and I will say this.
00:44:41
Speaker
I picked the Chiefs out of spite of myself to hopefully that they would lose. Like, I was picking them in hopes they would lose. Yeah, the emotional hedge, dude. I got you, dude. So, at least if you pissed off, you still say, well, I got the picks. I've definitely done that few times. The only game that shocked me, honestly, was the Raiders beating the Patriots. The Patriots just came out completely flat in that game. I was shocked by that.
00:45:04
Speaker
49er Seahawks was always a toss-up either way. so The little bit I saw of that game, dude, it looks similar to last year. that Drake May is still doing his thing, but there's just not much support around him, dude. I think when they do get some talent...
00:45:17
Speaker
I think going big wake-up call because he um obviously hasn't gotten a lot of attention around the league just because the Patriots don't do a lot of winning and and the numbers aren't there. But if you watch him play, man, dude's a baller, dude. Yeah.
00:45:28
Speaker
Yep. um So, dude, we got an awesome game Thursday night, man. I hate that it's Thursday night because I feel like these Thursday night games, like they're are always just like โ€“ It's like diet football or something, man. Yeah, the teams the teams are never at their best on Thursday Night Football. Or I'd say they're rarely at their best on Thursday Night Football. It feels like โ€“ I need to go back and actually look at the schedule in my mind. Like my perception of it is I feel like these games always end up being a letdown, right?

Thursday Night Football Critique

00:45:53
Speaker
They always know tend to be in low-scoring, like ugly games.
00:45:56
Speaker
um But this does have the potential to to break that streak. Commanders and Packers โ€“ up in Green Bay. It's going be a good one, man. I think the Packers win, Dave. Commanders, i feel like they I don't know if they were just playing with their food or if they're not quite as dominant as as they're as the they were last year, but they the Giants, a crappy Giants team, really hung with them for a long time on Sunday.
00:46:18
Speaker
Yeah, I agree. I'm going Packers as well, and I know Seth was talking about... um Obviously when Michael Parsons got traded Jerry Jones brought up or somebody brought up back issues if you watched Michael Parsons yesterday but Michael Parsons still all world talent and make that defense a hundred times better Yeah, well, time time will tell, man, ultimately who when you know how that trade plays out. But I think for one season, it's going to be a win for the pack. And definitely a yeah that may be all they're looking for, dude. I think this is similar to when the Rams traded for Matt Stafford, man. Like, let's get a ring out of it, dude. And if if you get the ring out of it, doesn it's always worth it. Yeah, it doesn't matter after that.
00:46:57
Speaker
Yeah. All right. We got the Rams and Titans. Titans home opener. Dude, I see this being similar to that Denver game, man. i think they're going to put up a fight. I think they're going to play tough, but I cannot pick. I just can't pick freaking Brian Callahan to beat Sean McVay. I don't care what the rosters were. did you could You could give each of them any 53-man NFL roster.
00:47:17
Speaker
I think McVay's winning. Yeah, I'm going Rams as well. Jaguars and Bengals, dude. Jaguars looked okay. I think the Jaguars looked better week one than the Bengals did. Obviously, the Bengals have a much higher ceiling.
00:47:31
Speaker
In Cincinnati, dude, call me crazy, I think the Jaguars win this one, man. I don't know why. i got a funny feeling that this you know September malaise that the Bengals have had going back you know ever since that year they went to the Super Bowl, I think it continues, man. and I think we see the Jaguars go in and steal one and and get to two hundred know I thought the Jaguars actually looked pretty good. Like, dude, they stomped the Panthers. Like, that that was not a close game at all.
00:47:59
Speaker
God, dude, the Bengals did not look good at all either. It was against the Browns. I'm going to go Bengals. Dude, this team cannot just keep doing this, right? Like, at some point, it just has to, they have to turn it up. So, I'm going to Bengals.
00:48:13
Speaker
The Bengals are only three and a half point favorites in this, which if you know you subscribe to the old Vegas theories, man, three home field gets you three points off the rip, dude. So that means Vegas only thinks they're a half point better than the Jags. So this this could be a sneaky good game on Sunday. It's and that it's in the early window too, which I like. I like getting a couple...
00:48:30
Speaker
Really good matchups there in that early window. But yeah, so all right, so we're split on that one. All right, heaven help the Cleveland Browns as they head into Baltimore to face a pissed off Ravens team. da ray I think this is going to be ugly, dude. I think Derrick Henry, somehow I think he's going to go to a different place than he did when he went for over 175 yards against one of the best teams in the league.
00:48:52
Speaker
And, you know, he's got to be feeling it, dude. Regardless of whether it was actually his fault or not, you know, in his mind, he feels like if i don't fumble that ball, we win. so I think he makes it up to all his teammates this Sunday and we see them stomp the shit out of the Browns.
00:49:04
Speaker
Yeah, this this is a danger zone for Browns this week. This is not a good place to be. I'm with you. I think the Ravens kill them. Bills and Jets in New York. Obviously, knee-jerk reaction. Bills are going to kick their ass.
00:49:18
Speaker
Did you think we get any kind of letdown, man, coming off that super emotional game, dude, to going against this Jets team that's got a little bit of dog in them? No. I said it before the season. I think the Bills win 14 or 15 games, and I think they sweep their division. i just I feel like they are the best team in this division, and they're going go out and show it on Sunday.
00:49:37
Speaker
Yeah, I think the Bills win. I don't think this is โ€“ I think the Jets at least keep it โ€“ Interesting. within sight. Yeah, I think they keep them within vision. I don't think the Bills are going to blow em out.
00:49:48
Speaker
ah Patriots and Dolphins in Miami, dude. Oof. yeah Miami has typically been a house of horrors for the Patriots, even in their glory years, man. For whatever reason, they just I don't know if they're staying at a bad hotel or what the deal It feels like they never travel well down there. said I wasn't going to hit the panic button on the Dolphins. I'll double down on it. I think they get the win, man.
00:50:11
Speaker
There's really not much to pick make you want to pick either one of these teams. I'm just going historically and saying that you know the Dolphins find a fun way to get it done because they used to be able to beat Brady when the Patriots go down there. They are only one-and-a-half-point favorites, man, which makes you think you know maybe Vegas thinks the Patriots are actually the better team. I'm going to go Patriots. du Whatever that was out of the Dolphins on Sunday, Tua looked absolutely miserable on Sunday.
00:50:37
Speaker
Yeah, that was very, very bad. um Saints and Niners in New Orleans. Saints played the Cardinals surprisingly well. They... you know They were a dropped pass in the end zone away from sending that game to overtime. I think it's a testament to to what a good job Kellen Moore is doing with a very, very deeply flawed roster down there.
00:51:01
Speaker
um But that being said, I think there's just too much talent on that San Francisco team, man. The Seahawks actually played the Niners lot tougher was expecting, but I think that may have more to do with the Seahawks than the 49ers. So think 49ers get 2-0.
00:51:15
Speaker
Yeah, Seahawks are going to be decent this year, but I agree with you, 49ers. Cowboys and Giants in Dallas. I think Dallas wins, man. I think Dallas, obviously everybody's shitting on Dallas. I think they're gonna to end up being a little bit better than people are expecting this year.
00:51:29
Speaker
And I think that starts with getting their first win the season against New York. I agree. Cowboys. Bears-Lions, dude, the Bears, I think they're stare lu staring down the barrel going 0-2, man. Now, the X factor here is it's the Lions' long-time offensive coordinator is the head coach for the Bears, so he knows that team like no other. So and they if he's worth his salt as a head coach, they got to have a hellified game plan cooked up.
00:51:53
Speaker
But you know Dan Campbell's freaking spitting fire all this week, man. I just don't see any way this Lions team goes to 0-2. um Again, another sneaky, interesting game during that first window. we got We got a cool slate of games this week, man.
00:52:06
Speaker
um I think Lions get to 1-1. I agree. I'm going to go Lions. dude in Bears go to 0-2. They might be in panic mode right away.
00:52:18
Speaker
Yeah. ah But, dude, what do you even do, man? Because you got the first round draft pick at quarterback and then you got first year head coach. Like, I don't even know. Dude, the fact that they signed the backup quarterback to an extension really, really was weird right before the season started. like Yeah. i'm A guy that hasn't, he's what he started, what, two games, right? But they gave him, like, a pretty decent deal for ah for a backup.
00:52:42
Speaker
That was kind of weird. Yeah. don't know, man. He just brings a different life to that team sometimes. Yeah. um All right. Let's go out to Pittsburgh. Tough draw for the Seahawks, dude. Again, they lose a hard-fought game to the Niners.
00:52:55
Speaker
They got to go across the country for a 12 o'clock kickoff, man. NFL you did did them dirty with this schedule. 12 o'clock kickoff against Steelers, dude. A-Rod, four touchdown passes, man. I've been telling y'all, dude, that last month in New York, he was all the way back 100% healthy. He was looking pretty good.
00:53:10
Speaker
um We'll see if he can hold back the hands of father time again, man. I think the Steelers get to 2-0, though. Yeah, I do not like this game at all for the Seahawks, man. Like you said, this is a long, long flight in an early game.
00:53:23
Speaker
Not a good mix for them. Did you end up getting a โ€“ I know I it to you. don't know you watched it, man. Did you guys end up โ€“ did you catch the hit that Jalen Ramsey had to seal the game for the Steelers?
00:53:34
Speaker
What a play, dude. What a freaking play. That's textbook, dude. I mean, I mean, Brett was playing Fortnite by himself, dude. I made him come in the living room and watch that play like three times. See, I do this. This is what winning football looks like, man. This dude straight up sealed the game for his team. Totally clean hit. There was not even a chance they could throw a penalty for like defenseless receiver. Like ah that that was a badass play. It was. was really good.
00:53:57
Speaker
All right, Broncos and Colts in Indy. I think the Broncos and the Colts come and crashing back down to earth, man. I think it was a great โ€“ obviously a really great day on Sunday. i know our buddy Hawk was there enjoying it, man. But I think the fairytale ends, man, and and we see the Broncos get to 2-0.
00:54:17
Speaker
I refuse to believe Daniel Jones is just all of a sudden good. like i ah he I agree with you. I think he comes crashing down to earth on Sunday. Panthers and Cardinals Arizona, man. This is a Panthers need to win this game, man. I think that they start People going start getting pissed there immediately because there was some optimism on their season this year, man. Yeah. They finished good last year, man. You feel Bryce Young continues to progress. The offense was non-existent for at least the first half. They had the faintest pulse there in the second half, dude, but they were non-existent the first two quarters down in Jacksonville. do not understand. But, dude, the Cardinals didn't look great either, dude. The Cardinals had their hands full with the Saints, man.
00:55:03
Speaker
I do not understand why the Panthers traded Thielen, man. He just seemed like the perfect dude for that team because they have so many young receivers. like He's going to be so good for J.J. McCarthy up there in Minnesota. You saw it tonight. He's still balling, too. He caught the two-point conversion that really started to break that game open for them, man. I do not understand what the hell... death i The Panthers are just an absolute disaster of franchise. The thing is, dude...
00:55:30
Speaker
Obviously, Thielen's great in the locker room, right? A vet, leader, like great team player. I've never heard anybody have anything bad to say about Adam Thielen. But the dude can still play on the field. That's the thing, man. like yeah what What are you thinking, man?
00:55:45
Speaker
um
00:55:48
Speaker
I'll go Cardinals, man. But i'm not it's like a low confidence pick. Jesus, they're six and a half point favorites. I'm telling you, dude, I watched it for whatever reason. i don't know if I just happen to be looking up a lot, man.
00:56:01
Speaker
I caught a lot of that game with the Saints, dude. And the the Saints were giving the Cardinals a run for their damn money. I mean, it it it was still in New Orleans, dude. Like, it it's always very tough to play. ah Fans always get excited because they're a bunch of jackasses. But, like, that it's it's always going a tough place to play. I'm going i'm going cards, but I'm a little shaky on it, dude.
00:56:22
Speaker
Eagles and Chiefs in Kansas City, man. Super Bowl rematch. NKC. didd Did we actually see the Chiefs go to 0-2? Philly's favorites, bro. The Chiefs are a home. Are you okay? Yep, everything's good.
00:56:33
Speaker
What was that? Just dropped my phone. I don't know what else. thought you fell out of the chair, dude. I thought you had like ah spontaneously combusted at the thought of this chiefs the Eagles game. It's going to be a good one, man. Uh, the Eagle did just stop the X's and os Eagles ought to wipe the field with them. Dude.
00:56:47
Speaker
I really think there's been some serious decline in just the talent base there in Kansas city, man. Now they can make up for it. Cause I think Andy Reed is just that. I think they still have probably the best coaching staff in the league. It seems like the guys are just locked in all the time, but, but I don't know, man, I'd,
00:57:04
Speaker
I can't see the Chiefs going on too but I also don't see a way they beat this Eagles team, man, without some serious breaks. what I'm going to let you make your pick first, man. what are you calling on this one? Dude, they don't have Xavier Worthy.
00:57:16
Speaker
They don't have Rasheed I do not love this Chiefs roster, man. After watching that game on Friday night, dude, Mahomes is going to have to do so much this season to just keep this team going.
00:57:31
Speaker
Jalen Carter is going to play. like I'm going Eagles. He's going be pissed off. yeah I think I've got to go Eagles too, man. As crazy as I I've go the Eagles, and I think we see the first kind of ah crisis mode for for the Mahomes-Reed-Era Chiefs, dude. i just I'm with you, man. all the And don't get me wrong, man. I still would not be stunned if they win the AFC. No. But that is all based off the infrastructure and the Mahomes magic. I'm strictly going off that, dude. The defense is still pretty dang good, too, man. It's definitely not as top level as it's been in years past. oh so
00:58:03
Speaker
Yeah, I think the Eagles win, man. Now, I i wouldn't be surprised at all if we're sitting here Monday saying you know laughing at ourselves because we both picked against Mahomes and the Chiefs, but... I just can't find a good football reason to pick the to pick them to beat the Eagles. I really can't, man. that you know Other than just and my belief in the Mahomes mojo is not quite strong enough after what I saw week one to to think that they just magically find a way to get it done. one and the Super Bowl. Like, dude, yeah people will quickly forget the Eagles beat the dog shit out of them in the Super Bowl. Like, yeah, I just I think the Eagles roster is just it's so much better than the Chiefs roster at this point.
00:58:41
Speaker
Yeah. Sunday Night Football, Falcons and Vikings, the Kirk Cousins Bowl. um I don't know. You got to go first, dude. Do the Falcons drop to 0-2? i mean, I'm going to the game, so I'm picking the Falcons. I've i've never not picked the Falcons when I went to a game. so Yeah, I think the Falcons will get the win, man. I do. I don't and just i think they're better than what they showed on Sunday. I really do.
00:59:04
Speaker
And i I think they can โ€“ that defense was good. I think they can force a couple turnovers, man. I think i think they get a couple turnovers and they win a close one on Sunday night. All right, we got the doubleheader back Monday night.
00:59:16
Speaker
First off, Bucs and Texans in Houston. I think Houston gets the win, man. that was a that That was a really hard-fought game they had against the Rams. Dude, obviously the Rams came out on top. So I think they're going in a little bit desperation mode They're going to be pissed off.
00:59:28
Speaker
I was a little underwhelmed with what i saw in the Bucs, man. The Bucs did not look nearly as explosive as they did last year. You know, could just be a one-off adjusting to the new offensive coordinator, but I think the Texans get the win and get the one-on-one.
00:59:39
Speaker
Yeah, I agree. I'm going to go Texans. Like, dude, the Texans fought hard in that Rams game. And that was a hard fought game, bro. That like it sounds weird. It almost reminded me of like a high school game. Like, dude, they were they were hitting, man. Like that was just a hard fought game. like That was a scrappy of a scrappy freaking game, man. Yeah, they played well. I mean, just the Rams are just so well coached, man.
01:00:02
Speaker
Yeah. And then lastly, Chargers Raiders, dude. Raiders, great story. The week one win. I think the Chargers go in there and get the dub, though. Get to 2-0. Yeah, I'm going Chargers as well. All right. That's a wrap for but our picks. Let's get to million-dollar bets.
01:00:18
Speaker
I got money. Me and me. Money in the bank. Got the money in the bank. Yeah.
01:00:33
Speaker
All right, I got the recap for how we did last week. So, Jordan, we were losers, man. I hope nobody was putting real money on what we did last year. I had the three-team parlay, lost 75K on that. Jordan had the double over plus the commanders against the spread. That a Falcons over, God, dude.
01:00:51
Speaker
How did they do it, man? The this the over was 46.5, and they scored points. 43. 23-20 the final. no thatport forty three twenty three twenty was the final Oh, my bad. My math was wrong. I was thinking it was up by three. Well, yeah, because you were thinking that young Hoku made that fucking field goal.
01:01:09
Speaker
He did not. Yeah, the Jordans, Texans, Lions, Parley also did not play out. So, yeah, he still got his Saints Browns unders. Which look really good after week one. looking great. i don't know, dude. I feel like that both teams could have won their games, though, dude.
01:01:27
Speaker
but But yeah, either way, man, look and check. The Saints needed to steal with that one against the Cardinals, dude.

Saints' Season Overview

01:01:32
Speaker
Cardinals at home was one of the few games where you're like, yeah, maybe the Saints could steal that one and they lost. ah So we'll see how it plays out. But as of right now, I got a slim lead. We're both losers, but I'm slightly less of a loser. I'm sitting at 925K.
01:01:44
Speaker
Jordan's at 900K for the year. yeah um

Wheel of Death Parlay Introduction

01:01:47
Speaker
So we spun the wheel of death. We'll let Jordan gif go first. So Jordan swung top 25, which if you get that, that means that you have to parlay against the spread every single top 25 versus top 25 matchup in college football. So, Jordan, hit us with your picks and what your wager amount is. All right, I'm going Tennessee plus three and a half, South Florida plus 17 and a half, still don't understand that line, and then Texas plus seven. I'm going to do $50,000, potential payout of $340,643. All right.
01:02:20
Speaker
six hundred and forty three dollars Okay, so I drew NFC only, which means I have to pick a team from each conference in the NFC to win Moneyline. All right. They're from each division, excuse me. A team from each division in the NFC to win Moneyline. So I'm building this parlay right now. going to do 50K on my bet. So I'm going to start off by picking the 49ers to beat the Saints. was like, what?
01:02:48
Speaker
I am going to bet the Lions to beat the Bears. Okay. Down south is iffy, dude. I'm tired. You know, I guess I'm going with the Falcons, dude. That's the best of the NFC South is a bad one because you got the Falcons and Vikings, which, you know, probably lean Vikings if I'm putting money on it, man.
01:03:05
Speaker
um The Bucks and Texans again, lean in Texans.

NFC South Team Evaluations

01:03:09
Speaker
The Panthers and Cardinals, which i don't know how you could put money on the Panthers. And then lastly is, yeah, the Saints and 49ers already picked against the Saints. So I'm go go Falcons money line and then out east.
01:03:22
Speaker
um i'm gonna go to cowboys to beat the giants so let's take a look at this i'm only doing 50k just because of that falcons game man i i love you jordan but i just uh no i get it now and so for 50 000 that's gonna win 438 000 dude if that hits man if all four of those hit dude so i'm screenshotting this yep i'll send it to jordan so he's got the proof and uh We'll track how it goes next week. what do What do you think of that, man? I feel like the Falcons definitely the shakiest leg of that. What do you think? i mean, dude, that Lions-Bears game is shaky, too. like they're all Yeah, there's none of those are gimmies, dude. like Any of those four teams could could lose those, man. But, ah but yeah, I don't know. How are you liking the Wheel of Death, man? I think this is a solid ah addition, man. Yeah, I think it's forcing us into making some bets that we probably wouldn't otherwise, man. So we got some pretty zany stuff on that Wheel of Death as we go through the season, y'all. You ready to hit listener mail? Let's do it.

Listener Mail and NFL Surprises

01:04:32
Speaker
All right, let's start off with our good buddy Alex Eubank, one of our most devoted goal line listeners, says, no question. Just wanted to say how absolutely enjoyable watching that Bill's Ravens game was. It was absolute cinema.
01:04:44
Speaker
Couldn't have asked for a better game to start week one. What a way to set the tone. for this NFL season and what's to come. How effing awesome is football? Yeah. Football is the best dude. Like it, you know, me and Jordan were having this argument last night. I'll always take wrestling over real sports, but when it comes to real sports, football is just leagues ahead of everything else, man. It's like, it's perfect for watching, right? Cause you have like the burst of action. Then you got like 30 seconds to kind of like dissect it and talk and let the anticipation build for what's next.
01:05:09
Speaker
Um, it's the ultimate team game, right? It's not basketball. It's not baseball where one player could just ball out on his own. Like it's just, don't feel there's a lot of life lessons built into football and it's just, it's made to be watched on TV. And because there's so few games, every single game is a huge event. You know, every regular season game feels like such a big deal in the NFL.
01:05:29
Speaker
um And yeah, it's the best man. And when there's games like bills and Ravens, like nothing there's nothing better. Yeah. Agreed. ah Zach Hertz says any games that really surprised you with their outcome?
01:05:40
Speaker
ah not necessarily the outcome, just Steelers and Jets was absolutely shocking to me how good of a game that was. Yeah, a lot of high-quality ball being played out there. I just expected a straight-up slog, like 14-10 game, and it was really good football.
01:05:55
Speaker
I say the Colts, bro. I did not see that 33-8 game coming on. Like I said, I'm going โ€“ I can't โ€“ my football mind can't make sense that maybe Daniel Jones has just needed to go to Indy to resurrect his career. So I'm i'm just calling it the Ursa effect, man, that there was just something special in the air in Indy yesterday.
01:06:12
Speaker
Speaking of Indy, our buddy Eric Yazzie says, do you think Anthony Richardson is going to be done with the Colts? he I think so, man. I think Colts are done with Eric. request still so I still saw more good ball out of Daniel Jones yesterday than I've seen in, you know, two seasons pieced together of of Anthony Richardson. so you don't You don't bring in a guy like Daniel Jones if you still got hope that Anthony Richardson is going to turn into something.
01:06:33
Speaker
i I can't totally crucify them on the draft pick, man, because the dude's intangibles are off the charts. He's a a big, huge football player who has got an arm like a freaking cannon and can run like crazy. But I think he just doesn't have got the the the mind and the spirit, man, to be a top-level NFL quarterback. Yeah, I There's just something not there for him, man. It's just something doesn't โ€“ he can't process the game the way it needs to be processed to be an NFL quarterback, and it's showing.
01:07:02
Speaker
He just does weird stuff, bro. i still and I know, dude, you don't want to just like stay on somebody's lowest moment, but I still can โ€“ I've never got an explanation that satisfies me for why he took himself out of the game that one play last year, man, after he he scrambled and just said he was tired. You just โ€“ you can't do that, dude, in the NFL. You can't do that in any level football if you're the quarterback, but especially now in the NFL.

Fall Plans and Haunted Houses

01:07:24
Speaker
Uh, the lovely fig wife, Ari chimed in with a couple of questions here. First off, she says, which team surprised you most this weekend? Uh, surprised me in a good way. The Colts surprised me in a bad way. I'd say the Lions.
01:07:38
Speaker
Yeah, Lions were pretty bad, man. I i was pleasantly surprised with the Titans, dude. As frustrating as it was, I think the Broncos are a sleeper pick. They're probably next up after the big three as a ah team that could break through and and make a run to the Final Four in the AFC. So I was happy seeing the Titans hang that tough with them, man. I know it's sad that I'm at that point where I'm happy about losses, but...
01:07:59
Speaker
But I do think they showed some some grit yesterday. Yeah. And then Ari also wants to know what is on your fall bucket list for me. I don't necessarily got like one bucket list item. Definitely trying to watch more scary movies with Sheena this year, man. Like it's just dude, it's you guys know, man, you've been married for a while. You got kids and stuff. It's hard carving out the time.
01:08:18
Speaker
uh, to get a little bit of quality time with your spouse, man. And one thing we both really enjoy is watching scary movies. So my goal is just to watch even more scary movies than we did last year during, uh, the kind of September, basically we say from September 1st up to the night before Thanksgiving is spooky season.
01:08:32
Speaker
Uh, we kind of extended on the front end and back into Halloween. So I really want try to cram in as many scary movies as possible. um This is actually a good question because Ari had thought of this. She wanted us to put together a bucket list at for fall and winter or well more Christmas more than anything. But we put on there we had watched more scary movies.
01:08:54
Speaker
Possibly take Zoe to a haunted house. ah Hit a new pumpkin patch this year. um Just, I mean, don't know, man. We just got to do a lot more stuff during fall because truly we all love football. That's why we do this show. But, dude, the weather changing is is one of the best things about football season and fall, too. nice Just get that and the hoodies out that crisp autumn air, the leaves change. Like, dude, it just it hits different when you're walking through the pumpkin patch and stuff during the fall. Yeah.
01:09:23
Speaker
Yeah, Halloween, you know, Christmas and Thanksgiving are right around the corner. Yeah, it's a great time, dude. I got to get Brent back into it. Dude, in 2023, we went to the Fright Farm. There's ah this family farm ah about 10 miles from our house that they turn into a big haunted house like through the field, right? So it's like part of its like haunted house like actually outdoors in the field. And they got some different shacks and stuff set up.
01:09:45
Speaker
And it's so funny because he did it when he was six and really had minimal problems, man. Like he got a couple little things, got him spooked. But he was, like, good to go. And, like, now, like, you know, I guess you you get older and that part of your brain continues to develop, like, the senses, the fear and stuff. Like, I don't know what I'd have to offer him, man. I think I'd have to offer him, like, a PS5 to put next to his Xbox to to get him to ah to get him to go do it nowadays, man. He just... He wants no part of it.
01:10:10
Speaker
Yeah. It just... Yeah, it's tough getting kids go to haunted houses, man. Yeah. I mean, I don't love them myself, dude. I wasn't super excited when Brett wanted to go Fright Farm, him but I sucked it up, man. i I had a taste for it when I was younger, dude. Like, i don't know. Now, just like I don't like the people chasing me and shit, man. Some of those... they've They've gotten really, really good nowadays, but they can be really freaking intense.
01:10:31
Speaker
Yeah. Dude, I don't like being like... in-person scared i'm not a fan of like i'm more of like the i'm a swing on you if you scare me like that like yeah man i was literally i've yelled at haunted house people before like dude i'm not playing man like i don't want to be touched dude like don't mess with me man like i yeah and then you never want to be that guy either because you just make it awkward for everybody involved man Make me pull out my nine, bust a cap.
01:11:02
Speaker
All right. Jordan, hit us with some closing and thoughts, and we'll get out of here, man. Yeah, let's just all pray for Jordan's safety this weekend, that the Falcons come out on top, and I get to bring home a W for next Monday's goal line.
01:11:24
Speaker
They say life can't decide in the blink a night. If our silly little dreams ever come true. But the dreams in my mind go by so slow.
01:11:37
Speaker
So what the hell else can do? I want to slow it all down. Watch and roll back. See where sweet mellow falls.
01:11:49
Speaker
I want to roll off the tempo playback.
01:11:55
Speaker
It's the only time, time after I've grown tired of cold.
