Introduction and Welcome

00:00:02
Speaker
It is. The Spanish-European. My name is Jared Dyke. I wanted to say it's stupid and let's move on, but can you get going? I'm Ben Glauser. I don't like it where anybody came about. Delusion! Delusion!
00:00:24
Speaker
Hey everybody, welcome back. It is the Fancy Rugby Yanks. My name is Jared Dyke. I'm Ben Glauser. We are fancy cornering now and hold on for some fun. I'm abstaining for a second. I was a little loopy last week and I'm going to try not to do that again. Yeah, I'm doing all right. I think I also had one of those canned mixed drinks, which was not helpful.
00:00:47
Speaker
Oh, did you have the margarita? No, I didn't know. I only just got the margarita this weekend. I'm not doing that. Okay. Those are heavy. No, no, no, no. Those are like 12% or something like that.

Drinks and Fantasy Rugby World Cup

00:00:58
Speaker
Yeah, 12%. Yeah. That one. Yeah. Yes. Catherine Alupia was on Saturday after this. Oh, dude, this, this Wally IPA that you left is like 7%. So I'm doing okay. Yeah. One will do. That'll do pig. That'll do. Um,
00:01:13
Speaker
Yeah, diving into fancy, fancy rugby stuff. Once again, fancy Rugby World Cup. We are still on the lookout for more D2 managers. So if you are interested, get in touch for the Champions League. Only caveat is you either have to one live with the fact that you're not going to get points in one or two competitions, or you can already be in them and we just got to add you to the league, which is doable. I assume most of you are at least in the Rugby World Cup official, because there are a lot of people in that thing.
00:01:42
Speaker
Yeah, I would assume if you're listening to the pod, to this pod, you probably have one of both. Yeah.

Rugby World Cup Fantasy Analysis

00:01:48
Speaker
So I'd be shocked if there were people out there. And if you're not, if you're out there and you only do one, let me know. Let me know why you don't do the other because that's what I'd be interested to hear that as well. They're both phones. Yeah. So while D2 is forming, we will just recap ourselves in week one. In Rugby World Cup official, our newly promoted D2 player, Stewart, is leading the way.
00:02:11
Speaker
But it's not, it's not that big of a gap right now because these are, these points can happen real fast. I didn't go for him though. I have to say it's a pretty good lead on George right now. It's not bad. 602 to 511 and that's first to second. So he's, oh wow. He's first in both then. Damn. Yeah. Yes. Son of a bitch. Yeah. Yes. Yeah. I'm bringing up the rear in one and damn near close to the other as well.
00:02:37
Speaker
Yeah, but that will, yeah, this is like, we're all, we're all chasing Stuart in that one. Yep. At that point, because we're all like, cause five 11, you're, you're 60 points between you and George for between two and eight. There's 60 points between one and two. There's, well, I'll take two, honestly. Uh, I will, I will chase two. I'm okay with that. I will, I will live with that. Right. But I just got to get myself off the bottom. The objective is points. Yeah. Points, points, points in the standings, man. Got a lot more comps going on in this thing. We're just going to keep on yelling, man.
00:03:05
Speaker
OK, so there's that. Oh, yeah, start set time. You're up. I'm up. All right. This team, there's the team's name for this one. It is, it is. And it's France versus Uruguay for France. Bugari is an excellent option. He's probably pretty cheap, since he means that he's, you know, not Marchand. So for for the official match that he
00:03:32
Speaker
or official game, he probably could be a good option depending on how many other of the French you'd like. Jelanche, excellent option. Should be fairly cheap too, because he's not usually the main guy and I think he's probably going to be the.
00:03:47
Speaker
the main flanker in attack, I think. So that's why I'm pushing him. Luku, same kind of thing. And Hastoy, to me, is probably the best option for this, like the cheap option, because I think he's extremely cheap and he's also going to have the boot. And I think he's going to play extremely well in this one. I think he's got a very favorable matchup. Moifana is the center I'd go with. Villiera and Jamine too. Villiera,
00:04:15
Speaker
didn't quite get loose this past week, but I think this is his week. For Uruguay, no, you're not, stop. There's not many you're gonna be looking at yet. The one thing that I would look at and I noticed is that some of the front rows are really cheap, and you're not gonna score that differently from that to a
00:04:40
Speaker
like $10 a Tupo. So you were going props. Maybe I don't know. Um, again, you're cheaper and then you can spend that money, that, that, that whatever it is elsewhere. Yep. Right. Well, I mean, to your point in the official, in the official game, only three props scored 30 or more. Right. Uh, Garrett Thomas from Wales, Gigi Dushvili from Georgia and Tupo.
00:05:07
Speaker
So yeah, the, the difference will be marginal, especially down the, down the line. Right. Yeah. And there's still someone's, I think you mean in the fantasy, hold on. Let me see if I can pull it up. Um, in the official match or official game, maybe with props.
00:05:28
Speaker
Yeah, like Tupo. Yeah. Like Gallo was like four and a half. Like you can see, you can even go down to then the, the, the Japanese prop though. I value 26 points and he's, he's 3.5.
00:05:44
Speaker
value as opposed to Tupo who had 41, but he's six. You could spend that money and make up that difference and more elsewhere. Yeah, especially the back line. Exactly. That's where the big points are coming in and you want those big names and that's how you can potentially afford them. Astoria is nine, by the way.
00:06:05
Speaker
But, uh, but really, yeah, about a four point drop off from Johnny bear. So he's cheaper, cheaper. He's on, he's still, he's on par with, uh, it's on par with category. Yeah. All right. Well, depending on what that looks like this weekend. Yeah.
00:06:22
Speaker
Okay.

Fantasy Recommendations: Players and Matches

00:06:23
Speaker
Um, we're onto all blacks and Namibia. So I don't know what kind of team the all blacks are going to end. They're going to be angry. Number one. So just look out. Um, just going by some of the more own players and just giving advice off that, um, to group. I still say yes and super rude. No. And rugby, World Cup official too much money as a prop. Um, Barrett's a yes in both this week. Artie de, um, Malanga. Yes. But also keep an eye on like Bodhi or D Mac playing 10 this week.
00:06:52
Speaker
just because it's Namibia, so keep an eye on that. Rico was one of the best players on the team for the All Blacks last week, so he's a yes. Talia is without a doubt, and then Will Jordan again. I don't see how he does that twice, honestly, especially against Namibia, but really all the rest of the tournament. You guys battle run out of the way. That's it. That's all I need to do.
00:07:15
Speaker
He's going to want the opportunity. I think he'll give it to him to redeem himself. Yeah, I'm sure. I'm sure Fauzi asked him. He said yes. There are a couple options that I would consider and both of them are in the official game. Richard Hardwick has won.
00:07:32
Speaker
He was two and a half last I looked and he scored like 30 odd points in the back row, which isn't bad. Honestly, he's a workhorse. He was one of the better teams of players in a really bad team for the Rebels last year. He's played against these guys. This is not a step up in competition for him. It's just that his teammates are going to be overwhelmed. So he'll have to pull the weight, but he did okay last week.
00:07:57
Speaker
Swannipole, if you're looking for kind of an outside option, that's a good one. He's been playing 10. I think he's been kicking for them too. So, or maybe not, but it doesn't matter. So, um, much the same. I'll talk about with another player, but he was dropping back to take kicks and those kick, kick return meters end up adding up fast. All he's going to do is beat a couple of defenders and you're in decent shape. So just, just, just a couple of the keys. Keep in mind, I was saying you have to, but looking for cheaper options. I think those are your two to consider.
00:08:26
Speaker
All right, off to Samoa, finally getting into the into the World Cup. Let's go versus Chile, Chi Chi Chi, Le Le Le. For Samoa, Michael Alatoa as your captain, you see that you kind of figured there's going to be minutes there and this could score well for him. And what is he in? I don't use that much. I was looking at him earlier.
00:08:52
Speaker
Yeah, he's 3.5. That should be incredible value. Nice. Yeah, I think I'm probably going to slot him in at one of them probably opposite of Tupo. It opens it up for that, too. Absolutely. Yeah, Theo.
00:09:05
Speaker
Theo, Theo, Theo, like especially in I mean, for both, actually for both. He's going to have a ton of running room. He's going to he's going to eat. He's going to eat very he's going to eat chili very well. He may be in the back row this week, too. And yeah, and but he's he's a lock in both formats. So but yes, put him in your squad. Thank me later. Or
00:09:31
Speaker
I'll apologize later. Vui is definitely a go. This is a match where he will, like he and Theo are going to feed off of each other in that front row. Especially with those points in regular World Cup official for Vui. What's that? Especially with the lineup points that you get. Yeah. Like for Vui's sake, yeah. Right. He's been very good in that area. Theo will get there too. He has no slouch in the lineup.
00:09:54
Speaker
Once the Theo and the Vui get them on the front foot, I think Miracle Phialagi could also rake if he's in this lineup. That'd be cool. I'm guessing Telmetenny is going to be at Scrumhalf and Sopuaga at Flyhalf. Sounds right. Yeah, I'd consider either. And Danny Tawala in the backs. We saw him
00:10:18
Speaker
chew down on, I'm hungry, I guess, on the Super Rugby competition. I think this is going to be his kind of match too.
00:10:28
Speaker
For Chile, as I was saying before, look at either Escobar at the hooker or the flag. I like them. They both did well. Fernandez seems as much as I pushed him last week, he's not the kicker, it doesn't look like. No, he's not. So I'm kind of out on him then. I thought he would be taking the points again. He's not, and that kind of takes a little bit out of it.
00:10:51
Speaker
Right. But yeah, I like to ask about brothers. They played really well. Yeah. And they're cheap and they're, they produce really well. And I think they're going to, they're going to get their opportunities against Samoa too. Yep. Agreed. Wales and Portugal. Um, all right. For the Welsh, uh,
00:11:09
Speaker
Roland's is a no in Subaru, but a yes. And right. We woke up official because he does do the work in the defense and I have two points there. What? Yeah. Yeah. Bowler tackles. I couldn't imagine if you had him as your defensive specialist. Yeah, that would have been huge. Jack Morgan's a yes in both. Rees, Sam it. Yes, obviously. I'm not sure North gets the nod this week. So maybe consider Mason Grady if you're looking for a Welsh center, maybe Tom Mo, if he's in there as well. Rio Dyer, I bet you gets a start this week. So I would go ahead and look his way.
00:11:39
Speaker
I don't think we'll see bigger. I bet you we see cost low. And I'd say no in super brew only because you got to transfer them out after this round. And we know you have a limited amount of transfers there. And then, but yes, official because he's probably a little cheaper than bigger and we'll still get some more points. So that's just an idea there.
00:11:58
Speaker
I don't, and I want to throw a couple names out there for Portugal for you to consider because we're always looking for cheap options to sneak into our team. Um, Storti and Marquez, uh, nine in the, I believe the other ones, uh, the 10 or one of the OBs doesn't matter. Um, I think Marquez kicks. So that's, there's that as well. Just kind of keep that in mind for those of you out there looking for cheap options on one of these other teams here.
00:12:24
Speaker
Now off to Ireland and Tonga for the Ireland, their front row. Yeah, I go with it. Tag burn seems to be wanting wanting it. Yeah, I'm guessing Van Der Fleer plays in this one and yeah, play him. He'll he'll get opportunities. All these guys are going to get out like these. These are the good get the players who do well in the loose to are really the ones you're looking for. You know, it's kind of shocking to see Omani do as well as he did last week.
00:12:51
Speaker
But vendor Fleer is going to be playing that role and he's that much better at it. So Johnny Saxon, yeah, he might, he might have had some opportunities for kicking. Um, he has been, he was a terror last week, um, on both sides of the game. And, um, again, Tonga, he'll, he'll get his opportunities to make some big hits and attack and defense guy ring roses. You're now just, you're attacking center.
00:13:16
Speaker
with 10 shot out. So he's he's it for them, really. So he'll score very well, too. And then again, looking at all the back three, because they're all going to get their their meters because Tiger are going to turn the ball over and kick it and it's going to be a lot more open. So, yeah, think think how Wales looked last week, except it's Ireland doing it. So it'll be that much better.
00:13:37
Speaker
Yeah, so so much that probably for the Tongan side Via fafita is a is a pod favorite long time. So I'm gonna pimp him even though obviously we haven't seen him yet here I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm gonna take that leap of faith and buy him to work. Well Fekitoa might make for a good defensive specialist in the official game here because he's gonna get opportunities for some tackles He's gonna make him
00:14:04
Speaker
Yep. And then, um, Chuck P again, pod favorite. We love him. Yeah. Um, both on and in the fantasy game on the field and in the fantasy game, like he, he just produces. Um, and he's going to make people miss. Yeah. So that's the, that's the only problem with, with Pia Tal in the game and the back three, I guess of Ireland is that Pia Tal is going to make some missed tackles, which they knock you back a little bit.
00:14:29
Speaker
They do. They do. They do. And he'll make you miss like twice in the same play. So yeah, he'll come back to make you miss again. And maybe let you catch up so he can fend you. And then, you know, yeah, he's just. Yep. Absolutely. Yeah. He's fantasy productive like that. He is productive. He is productivity. All right. So let's go South Africa and Romania. So for the box, we'll see some of the names we saw this past weekend and some not obviously with it being Romania.
00:14:59
Speaker
I would advise and I don't think I'm like laying down anything freaking groundbreaking, but would advise not to take any kicking points from anybody in South Africa till they sort that out. So yeah, no, keep your kicker away from that team because they're going to need to get Manny hot at some point. So they're going to have to keep riding him and.
00:15:20
Speaker
Yeah, we'll see what happens to that. Anyway, um, I think we'll see Creel of the, of the two centers that played this past weekend. And maybe Esther Hazen as well can serve that one in there. Um, Jasper visa, if he's anywhere near this team, he should be a consideration currently. Yes. Uh, we'll probably see Kayden Moody, uh, get a start this week. So I consider him strong as well. And it's name is probably going to get a start as well. And he was all over the place this past weekend. So I'd consider those, those are the ones I would consider for sure. Um, for Romania, um,
00:15:49
Speaker
There were four people in the Rugby World Cup official game that were better than Vallavasa there, their 10. Wow. Because he was going back to chase those kicks. Yeah. And that was the thing that did it. So yeah, have a look, have a look at him. I don't know if it'll be quite the same.
00:16:10
Speaker
because of the different styles of the two teams, but I think that's a damn strong consideration that needs to be had right there. He is, he is five. For a fly half, that's pretty good. So if you're looking to spend points elsewhere and you want somebody, you didn't kick either. That's the wild thing. That's nuts. Yeah. So yeah. Keep that, keep that name in the back of your head. Just, just in case, break glass and you know, do your thing.
00:16:41
Speaker
All right.

Australia vs Fiji Match Preview

00:16:42
Speaker
And then a fascinating match. I can't wait to see this one. Australia versus Fiji. Yes. For the Aussies. So again, this is similar to what we were saying with Wales against Fiji. This time it's Australia.
00:16:59
Speaker
We'll have to play kind of fast and loose. Which they can do. That kind of plays into their hands as well. For Australia, both the props, yes and yes. I'm not so big on the hookers, just the line out spin kind of poop. Will Skelton will do extremely well and other potential defensive specialist because he will be thundering in tackles and they're going to be challenging him and.
00:17:26
Speaker
He'll meet that challenge. Frasier McRate, very mobile Lucy. I'd love to see what he does in this kind of matchup.
00:17:39
Speaker
Tate, yes. Kata, Gordon, yes. Maki Maki, yes. Okay, I'm done with the Boston attempt. Devin Donaldson is, fuck, he's a fly half, which kind of sucks, in that you're not, like, you're sneaking in an extra... OB. OB, but at the same time, yes, it's still a hit or miss with a plane of 15 at that fly half in fantasy.
00:18:09
Speaker
But I think you might go with it. It's an option. But I also think he's like the same price as Carter Gordon. He's similar. I think he's up 0.5 more or less. Yeah, it's disappointing. Let's put it that way. It's not a value pick, although it's a cheeky pick. On the Fiji inside, Mattivacy,
00:18:30
Speaker
Yes. Um, I'm pretty sure he scored pretty well, even if you scored our right for considering the hooker position. Right. Um, Takitaki Valu. Yeah. Um, yep. I want to see more of him. I think that's someone to look into again as a, uh, as a value pick.
00:18:46
Speaker
Um, Frank Lomani with the T's is, uh, is, is good to know. Interesting. Yeah. Yeah. Um, and then the centers in back three, as we saw, like, yep. Good. Yeah. They, they look good. They is good. Yeah. Just us. I actually think had the most meters. Yeah. Pretty good.
00:19:07
Speaker
I'm Teddy Teddy. Teddy Tella played well, but I just can't justify. No, he's not a sneaky pick at that point. No, there's better way off in terms of off the tee, too. So unhelpful as well. Mm hmm. You know, right now having not having the tee really kind of. No, it hurts. It hurts not being accurate with it either. Yeah. Well, that's why it also works. Yeah. All right. England, Japan. So Jesse is
00:19:34
Speaker
a lot of the same names shouldn't be shocking. Maro's a go, Genj's a go, Tui's a no for sure. Maybe in Rugby World Cup official, because he might have a lot more to do in terms of his tackling, but in terms of attack, like, super bruise is a hard no.
00:19:51
Speaker
Laws of no and super ruin a yes and official because see tackling stats. And I would consider as an outside option for prop. Will Stewart, I think we'll see him at tight head on totally pulling this out of my ass. I'm not having any two. We had 14 points last week. Right. I think all of them are on defense. Right. But that's that's only 14. No, you don't. I'm just looking at that from a fantasy perspective.
00:20:16
Speaker
Sucks marching only a 12. Oh this team kills kills bad. It was bad either way So yeah, hopefully the yeah some of you that spent the money on some of these guys have a better week
00:20:27
Speaker
But yeah, Will Stewart is a prop to consider outside. A little bit more mobile than Dan Cole can still scramble a little bit better than Kyle Sinclair. He's like that happy medium. And I don't think Sinclair's healthy yet. And I think we'll see Will Stewart this time to start this week. For Japan, Nakamura is a yes for me. Sakate is a
00:20:47
Speaker
Uh, no Subaru and consider it for official, but why not throwing be being punished here? And with Chesome and the Toge being in the defensive lineup, it scares me a little bit. So consider it, but I'm not going to say a hard yes. Um, Cornel son, the block that played number eight last week.
00:21:07
Speaker
32 in the locks pretty good. So I'm not gonna say no if he's back there again. If he's back in the lock, less excited about it. Leech is a hard no for me on both. Matsushima is a no on Subaru, but possible in the official if he's playing fullback.
00:21:26
Speaker
We might play fullback. I don't know if he's going to. If he is, I would consider because that means he's definitely returning the kicks. Yeah. And we know there's going to be plenty of kicks to return. So. Right. And he's going to know to run at Johnny May. Yeah. Right. Don't we all. Somehow the Argentinians missed that. I don't know how they missed it. But they did. I don't know how they missed that note. And not that daily is a defensive dynamo himself either. No. But like you have that staring right at you, like one of the worst defenders in
00:21:54
Speaker
In, in the international game. Yeah. Yeah. I can't, can't catch a cold. Yeah. Um, yeah. Uh, Inagake is, uh, I'll give him a yes for Subaru, but a no on official. Just didn't quite get, get done. And then, um, Subaru, no for Himino if he's back, but yes, I'll give him a yes for official. Again, defensive work. Um, the fact that he can't attack and he's much faster than Michael each gives him a bit more of a nod. So, uh, I'm going to give him, give me a thumbs up on that one.
00:22:26
Speaker
All right, then of the weeks. OT doves. OT doves. My of the week. I think you probably already know who it is because I won't shut up about him. So I'll just say once again, it's Theo McFarland. Shut up. Stop copying my homework. No, it was Mike. Dammit. I was like, yes, I'm going with Theo. I saw his name and I was like, yes.
00:22:52
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, he's been, he was great before he got hurt for Saris, and this is his moment to shine and show the world that he is truly a wonderful talent, and I think his position being lock and him probably gonna be stuck in the back row, I think, this week, at like a six, is just too appetizing to turn down. So yeah, he's my star of the week. Right, and if there's any game that he's going to make his, it'll be this one, so. It'll definitely be this one, I agree.
00:23:21
Speaker
I agree. Hardly. How about the set of the week? Um, somewhat similar situation. The guy who I remember him from super rugby fantasy, where he'd get you 10 points, a solid 10. Like if you only need 10 points from your, from your fly half position.
00:23:41
Speaker
go with William Haveli. The thing is, 10 points isn't going to do you much good in either of these competitions. You want significantly more than that. You'll probably get 10 points in Superbrew, which you might- Not so bad. It's not so bad, but it's reliable.
00:24:00
Speaker
10 points. I can kind of guarantee it almost. But he's not going to get much or any any real more than that. And, you know, you're really looking for more. So just. Yeah. And in the in the official game, yeah, I'll still get you 10 points, but that's really bad. We need more than that. That's not good. I mean, consider that in Subaru.
00:24:23
Speaker
Talia Keenan, Ramos all got above 25. The fly half remaining is OB in that. He got 23. Nahuatl, Nahuatl, 22. Lo and Capozzo both got 20.5. 10 is not going to cut it for a back three guy. That's just how it is. I agree. I mentioned this guy earlier and love him as a person. I think he's done great things for his country.
00:24:53
Speaker
fancy wise, he's just about to run into the wrong type of game for his sake. And I just don't see how Mike Leach gets it done. So I say that he's going to be Mike Leach from Japan. Yeah. Yeah. There's going to be a lot of people who didn't really see the match or haven't watched Leach play too much thinking, oh, he's still got it.
00:25:14
Speaker
You got it against Chile, right? Sorry, Chile, no offense, but it's like you got against Chile, right? It's like that Toby Keith song. He ain't as good as I once was when I was good once against Chile, like, as everyone's like, yeah, if you did that against Chile, like, that's that was that was his kind of, I, you know, and I hope he makes me eat to my words. I'd love it. But I wouldn't be mad at his kind of swan song kind of thing. Yeah, that'd be great. But I just don't think it's happening. That being the thing.
00:25:43
Speaker
Yeah, especially the longer it goes on, it's going to be harder for him. Right. I was good first match and that real good one, one run. So yeah, getting more than that. Pick of them. Ben, I didn't pick anything different last week. So we're even, even what have we, what are we even at six and two? Not bad.
