It's another fun filled episode of the Fantasy Corner, however brief it may be. As usual on FC, we dig into the happenings of the Champi-Yanks League in D1 and D2. In short, both leagues are extremely competitive, despite some of the records. Of course, we also have ourselves a VERY brief Start or Sit segment too. Get a notepad, a drink and have a laugh with us.

Introduction to The Fantasy Rugby Podcast

00:00:02
Speaker
It is. The Fantasy Robias. My name is Jared Dyke. I wanted to say it's stupid and let's move on, but then you kept going. I'm Ben Glauser. I don't like any way anybody gambled that. Collusion. Collusion.
00:00:27
Speaker
Hey, everybody. Welcome back. It is the fancy rugby. Thanks. My name is Jared Dyke. I'm Ben Glauser. Let's get to it. It's fancy time. Hold on. I have another beverage here. Where the hell I hide it. So many things on this desk. Oh, I'm done. Yeah, but you got you got a tall boy. I didn't have one for this. Well, that stops me from having a second one usually, but you know. No, but I think that's the kind of the trade off is if I didn't have a tall boy, I'd have a second one. Yeah.

Fantasy Rugby League Standings and Scores

00:00:58
Speaker
Okay. Oh, this is going to be an interesting week for everybody, but let's look back at the other one first. Champion's league division one.
00:01:09
Speaker
Yeah. Yes, Carrick, you finally put up a goddamn score. Congratulations, after putting in two snoozers. Congratulations, man. He didn't put up a good number 164. That's kind of solid. Yeah. That's pretty good. Pretty good. Yeah. So Carrick beat Justin.
00:01:28
Speaker
Ben edged me out after the final count. I thought I had it, but I obviously was prematurely celebrating Stockler of the Day. If I had fucking seen the Nick Tompkins news, I would trade him out. My insert would have been Lawrence, so. Yeah, well, you know. But Zaylavi, it's my own fault. That's all right. You enjoyed Alex Mitchell on my behalf, so. Brain fade. Yeah, true. Maybe that was the trade-off there. Right. So, the better me.
00:01:53
Speaker
Uh, George gets to hang out with me at the bottom with, uh, after losing to Cobus and Mark picks up, uh, a little bit better than he did against me last week and beats Duncan. So that makes things a little more interesting going forward here. Standings as is.
00:02:12
Speaker
uh it's Carrick in first in one conference and Mark in first in the other conference and then after that conference two will be the one to take any places um the other two places it'll be Cobus and Ben right now although yeah Justin's right there same record right there as um
00:02:34
Speaker
And even myself and Duncan are two and four, which is only one game back. Exactly. And everybody has like this entire league is within literally 60 points, 61, I should say, because it's like 60.1 points of each other. The top scorer has
00:02:51
Speaker
What 744.8 and our low score is 684.7. So it's like the six to 60 points. That's the top of the, we're, it's so fucking hard. There's no place to hide. No place to hide.

George's Bad Luck

00:03:07
Speaker
Let's see. What's this week looking like? And it's really the, George is taking up the rear, but
00:03:12
Speaker
That's because he gets slapped every time he plays someone. Everybody just tees off on poor George. Put it this way. There's 60 points between the top and bottom scorers.
00:03:28
Speaker
40 points between George and the next highest points against 40 points that just between them. And so, yeah, it's bad. Yeah. During my start, it's almost 200 point difference because the lowest points against is is 632. Yeah. Ouch. That's just a shitty look at the draw sometimes. Yeah. George again. Sorry. Sorry. Sorry. This week, although I hope I get to play against you. Yes. It seems to be good luck.
00:03:58
Speaker
Yes, good points, Discord. His only win is against me, so... It's you and Duncan this week, Cobus and Carrick, George and Mark, and I get Justin. That should be interesting.
00:04:14
Speaker
Over to D2.

Division 2 Updates

00:04:19
Speaker
Thank you again, Sophia, for keeping us up to date. Alex finally gets on the board with a big one, 234.8. Wow. And she was kind enough to settle on the lineup.
00:04:32
Speaker
Yeah, so yeah, unfortunately, John just the wrong end of that one. There's no central on the lineup. The big the big names were Carreras with 44.8 Lawrence who had 46.3 Grayson had 24.4 even had Penny who didn't have an otherworldly day but 16.5 still helps.
00:04:52
Speaker
He was one of those folks that decided, I'm going to grab Andy yearn and use him off the bench, 28.7 for that. Uh, he had truck who had 19.8 Theo with 13.3. And he also had the Gloucester front row with 26.4. Yeah. His other, his other players were alamano. Yeah. His other players were alamano, good and Oh, clarity who didn't have great days, but the other ones clearly made up for it. Yeah.
00:05:19
Speaker
The other ones clearly made up for it. Otherwise, besides that, um, Larry beat Sophia and Stuart beat. Oh geez. Um, Luke, Luke, what happened dude? 56 56. I mean, I've had some days where I just go toll spaced out and I ended up putting up like 40, but damn, that was, that's not a great, really harsh lock.
00:05:44
Speaker
Yeah, it could be because like there were some good players who did not know. Yeah, there were some good ones. That's true. And then if you just happen to have them all on your team, that's that's the output. Really bad luck. Yeah. And then Franco beat Terry as well. So that leaves that the standings are right now we have Stuart and Franco and first type of type of first, obviously one and two in conference one.
00:06:12
Speaker
Right now, Terry's the only one from Conference 2 that's making the playoffs because he's leading it at 3-3. Conference 1, yeah, Sophia's the last playoff person, so she's got, she's third there, but she's 4-2.
00:06:27
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. Conference two is looking a little struggling. It's, uh, I mean, Alex is there and he's just, you know, his, I mean, that point right there obviously helps, but that's 75 for him. And the top two in conference one are both have over 800. So yeah, they're, those two guys are just running, running with it. So good on them. Good on them. All right.

Weather and Champions Cup Preview

00:06:56
Speaker
It won't be long before we're kicking in comp two, which will be champions cup. But I don't want to think about this because that means it's going to be cold here. It is going to be cold and there's going to be snow involved. All right. And I'm not like this old grouse. It's like, I hate snow. I actually don't mind snow, but sometimes digging yourself out of a fucking snowstorm sucks. It often sucks. And I need to go get my, uh,
00:07:19
Speaker
You reminded me, and you could get my snowblower. But that's for later. I think that's me. I think Gloucester visits Irish on Friday. Do I have that right? I do.

Rugby Match Predictions

00:07:35
Speaker
Yep. So it's me. There should be a lot of points to be had in this match. Although we kind of know where they're coming from.
00:07:45
Speaker
Kind of from either team, the front row for the Irish could do very well. The rest are the forwards, you know, they're kind of a gamble outside of one Martine. He's fantastic. All the London Irish backs are good to go, though, because as we saw this past week, Gloucester will give up some some line breaks and that can turn into some points. And the Irish are good about that. Maybe not so much without Rona, it seems, but
00:08:15
Speaker
Yeah, that's not bad, though. No, he's not bad. So it's just interesting to see what you know, if they're going to start picking it back up. Right.
00:08:25
Speaker
That was kind of a shock. Uh, on the other side for Gloucester, their front row, of course, as, as Jared said, they, they had a huge score. Um, and keep, try to keep Valra Pavaroskin off the, off the tri sheet. See if you can, um, Freddie Clark is, is also a guy who's a threat to, to score. I think we may see, might see Jake Pledger here. I'm hoping. Finally, please. Um, Hastings could do okay from kicking points alone. So he's worth a start. Harris is a must start.
00:08:55
Speaker
I don't know what outside of that with their backs though. I mean, yes, we said in the on the rugby pod that Luis resam it is just not producing an attack. So right. He's been a huge disappointment for I think I have him on both my fantasy teams. And yeah, yeah, not happy. No, no, no, please. No money back. I want my money back. Right to the rack.
00:09:22
Speaker
So I'm going to go about this a little bit differently than I usually do only because there's so few options this week. So I will tell you the team, the players, I would absolutely start and you can fill in the blanks from there. Okay.

Player Performance Analysis

00:09:35
Speaker
Um, for bath, Orlando Bailey is a yes. So, uh, no half back, no lock that I trust, uh, loose forward, definitely miles read after that. Maybe Bayless.
00:09:46
Speaker
We'll see. If we have a Sam Underhill sighting, he's also a possibility, but read for sure. The other two are borderline. Midfield, Ollie Lawrence is a definitive. Yes. Redpath and a Jumbo are both borderline at this point. So if you need them, then
00:10:03
Speaker
This could be an open match, so it might come good. Definitely the front row, even though last week was a bad week, but that was their first really bad week, so give them a pass on that one. And then for OB's, Kuka and Gallagher are definitive.
00:10:22
Speaker
goes for them. For Northampton, Grayson is a thumbs up. He's my number one fly half this week. Alex Mitchell is up there, obviously. Kohl's up there again. He'll have a better week. Truck and Love them both. Hutch and Dingwall both. Slates, Furbank, probably Collins too. After that, that's probably good. I still don't trust Skosan. And then, man, if you're picking,
00:10:51
Speaker
Northampton's front row is the bottom, is one of the bottom two for me this week. So if you're stuck with them, have fun. Yeah. So just FYI, not good. They should be, they should be sworn higher. Yeah. All right. Off to Sandy park for, uh, Sandy butt crack. Oh.
00:11:11
Speaker
this match, I think we've talked about it last year. And I kind of said the same thing then that I'm going to say now, it depends on what match Saracen's play. And I think they're going to keep playing the way they've been playing. So I think it's going to be open. And I also think that that is not good for Exeter, because if if the Saris turn this into a try scoring match and it kind of attract me, I don't know that Exeter have the hooves.
00:11:40
Speaker
to keep up with them so, but, you know, the front row is still a must have at this point because that shickering that big head or whatever you want to call them.
00:11:53
Speaker
can just score tries for fun, like he's one of the guys who I'm actually worried about in this match. If Sarri's opening up, Shunza is another one. Sam Simmons, if he plays, Joe Simmons is worth a start too, especially if he plays at fullback. His value goes that much further up. Olly Woodburn could have a cracker this match.
00:12:16
Speaker
Other than that, it's extremely loud up dependent for exit or as to who like, you know, Ian Whitten is not gonna if he wins playing, I'm gonna be very happy. I will be to play him in your fantasy. For the other sides, Saris front row is still a must have because they're still, you know, they can still do those mallovers that he's filling in quite well. He is. Itoge, Theo, Ben Earl.
00:12:42
Speaker
like all four of them are goes, you know it. Van Zell, I think start him until he falls off at this point. He's showing good, especially if the saris continue to play this way. This is to his strengths. He's shown to be this kind of nine.
00:12:56
Speaker
So, yeah. Obviously, Faz, Tomo, Maelens, Dailey, and Goode, if they were playing. I think they're all... Because any of them could go off. Yeah, you're going to have one that doesn't have a great week. I mean, Goode had, what, 16? Which... Okay.
00:13:11
Speaker
Seven. Oh, and he had a try. So not a great, not a great, but it's, but it's like, yeah, he's not going to be one of your starter, normal starters, but like, don't hesitate to go to him because tail seven points is better than like three. Yep. Or minus. Right. It's worse. It's worse out there that you could get them seven. That's, that's like, uh, if that's the worst he's going to do, then yeah, you'll be all right.
00:13:35
Speaker
All right.

Start or Sit Recommendations

00:13:36
Speaker
Sale and Quins. We'll start with sale. The same thing I did with the last game. Rob DePria. Yes. That's a thumbs up. Raffi. JLDP should be fine. I know he didn't have a great game.
00:13:48
Speaker
DDP and Tom Curry. Tom Curry has not scored below 10 yet. So, and that includes an appearance off the bench. So I'm going to give him a thumbs up until he falls off. Midfield, the only midfielder worth playing is Roebuck. Everybody else just leave it. Yeah, it's true. Obies, Carpenter and O'Flaherty. And, you know, if we see Luke James, Aaron Reed start, I actually would not hesitate at playing either of them as well.
00:14:17
Speaker
So for those of us who are in the position of need and have potentially gone this route, what do you think about would you start Manu in a pinch? What do I have? He is my number 18 midfielder as of right now, but that's also including a couple extra players that might not play. So he's on the edge. Yeah, he's on the edge. Worth playing because of who he is.
00:14:44
Speaker
not so much as to what you've done. 18 is bad. That's like one of the better third tier people. So if he's your third center, then you're not doing shitty. So that's like, if you're in a two, you're an 18 league, you know, 16 would be exactly definitive starter for one of those leagues. So you're on 20 with that. So you're just inside that. Okay.
00:15:07
Speaker
because I'm looking for a 10 team league. So right. I'm looking at Dingle and Tompkins as my my top two. But just in case I picked up them because I'm like, I don't know that there's better options out there. Yeah. For those of you playing the which front row game or do I have a viable front row sales borderline right now? I'm not I'm not overly overly convinced. No. For the Quinn's Marcus. Yes. Danny care. Yes. I ranked Ernie Herbst, but I still wouldn't waste roster spot.
00:15:36
Speaker
Evans, yes, Kenningham, Borderline, Archie White, definitive no. If we magically see Don Branton, obviously go. I shouldn't need to tell you that. Marsha and Esther Hayes and Northmore, all thumbs ups and should start for your team. Murley and Nick David, and then I don't know who the other back three would be if it's not Marsha. So I have Will Edwards in right now and I don't know if that'll be.
00:16:02
Speaker
Yeah, maybe we have, I have not seen, we've not seen hide or hair of Louis Lionel. So no idea. Um, Quinn's front row is the bottom front row for me this week. So if you can help them to not play them, don't play them. Yeah. All right. Maybe I'll make that change in the keeper's league. Um, Oh, that's it. So now we're on to the other weeks because we only got four matches. Stupid put your finger out of your ass. All right. Um, yeah, you're going first now.
00:16:32
Speaker
Okay. Um, for my start of the week, it's interesting. Both of my, my of the weeks are from your matches. Um, and this is just the fact that he's been on a fucking tear and he's playing against bath. So, uh, my start of the week is, is all he's laid home. Um, yeah, I expect him to score a try and expect him to go for a couple of jobs because that's allow that.
00:16:59
Speaker
They do, they do, they do over there at the rec. That is going to be a fucking barn burner. They'll break the fucking scoreboard again. Yeah. So mine is a unit that was not as talked about as they should have been probably to start. Um, they've got a couple of England players that have been picked for the automation series and their opponent should definitely allow a few things here or there to go for them. So, um,
00:17:25
Speaker
You know, with singles in tow with Jack Singleton in tow my start of the week or round will be on seven. Damn. Yep. Seven of the problem is the Gloucester front row. Hmm. Yeah. Yeah. Can't argue that. I think a lot of Irish will surrender a fair few points. Likely. My sit of the week is from your other match. And this will play into my pick and decision as well.
00:17:56
Speaker
I happen to believe that Alex Anderson would have a keen interest in the tape of Lester versus Harlequins. And, you know, if you want to know how to keep Harlequins to 17 points, you watch that tape, right? So I happen to think he might have done, you know, he may learn a thing or two and that'll help him in this match.
00:18:23
Speaker
And I'm not going to transfer that to Marcus Smith because that's just mean and cruel. Bad juju right there. Right. I'm not going to, I'm not that stupid. Um, but I am going to give that sit of the week to Will Evans. Cause I think this is a bad week. This is a week that because he, I thought Lester kind of made him irrelevant and I think sale will do the same. Yep.
00:18:46
Speaker
So it's funny that you said him because I was looking at the numbers and, um, they're not good for loose forwards against sale. And I was picking out which one of the, one of the guys that would not want to play obviously don't brain. I would play, but the other three guys, I'm like, which one's probably the best. So, but my star, my city of the week, it's going to be.
00:19:08
Speaker
uh, for around seven, the prime is going to be the other quince blanker, Jack Kenningham, which that, yeah, these guys, this is not a good week for them. No, it's not. It's not going to be great. That's hilarious. Cause I was, I thought about Kenningham, but I was like, I think will Evans is the harsher one. So
00:19:25
Speaker
Will Evans is definitely the harsher one, but I'm also, they do tend to give up a few points to one forward. And I think if it's going to be any one of them, again, not named Dom Brandt, I think it's going to be Will Evans. So yeah. And getting him being the second banana right now is the one that people might want because we're in such a bind with all the positions and all the, and the very, how very few teams there are.
00:19:51
Speaker
But I'm just going to try and warn everyone off of this one and be like, no, no, no, no. You might actually be better off going with like Ben Kerry. Maybe I'll see if I can get Will Evans in a trade or get rid of him in a trade.
00:20:06
Speaker
Well, don't send her to me. Well, no, not to you, obviously. You know my plot. All right.

Team Tactics and Player Roles

00:20:14
Speaker
All you out there, don't listen to what I just said. All right. Well, I mean, this is going to probably post tilters anyway. Yeah. All right. Pick of them.
00:20:31
Speaker
No changes from last week, obviously, because we all picked the same. But with that, I have a pattern this week, again, that does have a combo breaker, but whatever. All right. One in Irish and Gloucester. Gloucester. And only Gloucester as well.
00:20:51
Speaker
Bath, Northampton. Oh. This one I had to consider. Yeah, I did too. And ultimately I think Northampton are good enough. I think they're good. Yeah, I do too. I do too. Uh, Exeter and Saris, I'm back on the boys. Yeah, me too. Saris.
00:21:06
Speaker
Yeah. And then, um, sale quins. I'm going to take the sharks. I'm taking the sharks as well. Because as I said, I'm pretty sure Alex Anderson went and watched the tape. He very likely did. Very, very likely did. He's going to tell like one of the duprizes. Hey, go fuck him up. Or Curry.
00:21:26
Speaker
Or Curry, fuck. That'd be worse. Yeah. Yeah. You might tell Tom Curry, see that guy over there? You chased that all day. That is your job. Or Ben Kerry, honestly, either one of them. You go hit him and the debris will clean up whatever comes, whatever poops its way through because it's not going to be much. No. Because, yeah, if they can go put that hit on Marcus and make them
00:21:49
Speaker
you know, do that little dish off right away. That guy's coming on flat and he's not going to want to be saying hi to any duprizes at that point. So that's what I would do. And I think, you know, unless harlequins have a way to to quick turnaround, a safety feature for Marcus Smith, which also shouldn't be difficult, but. Yeah, never know if they do. That's the question. So but I'm I'm back in the sale sharks because I think
00:22:17
Speaker
I don't know. I'm not, I'm not certain how quick they'll be able to turn that around. Right. They've been playing pretty well too on top of it also. Right. It's easier to implement a defense that's like that, that, that shut them down. Find the key to unlock it. Yeah. Yeah, exactly. Yeah.
00:22:34
Speaker
The deal, that deal that I imaginarily made with John Ross is off because he didn't take out Voldemort. No, he didn't. Nope. So you get to be the asshole of the day, continuously John Ross. Okay.

Conclusion and Listener Engagement

00:22:51
Speaker
That is that. This is this. And the fun shall begin.
00:22:59
Speaker
fantasy Roby podcast at gmail.com for questions, things about lineups, so on and so forth, things you want us to talk about a little bit more, perhaps all that good stuff, um, rankings, sheets, all that shit out this week. Keep your eyes peeled for that.
00:23:17
Speaker
I don't think, am I forgetting anything else? Nope. You're forgetting to, you know, again, um, congratulations to Alex for refusing to take my, my sit of the week advice. Yeah. That's it. He was smart on that. Yeah. What are you going to do? Right. Right. It worked out for him. Right.
00:23:34
Speaker
That guy needed a win too. He did. He needed a win. So, but other than that, like I always say, we appreciate you for being here and hanging out and supporting us and just listening to us babble for a little while. Back next week, we'll talk more international rugby, obviously both the World Cup and other nations to come as well. But until then, enjoy the Rutgers this weekend. Go Eagles! And we'll catch you guys next week. Thanks a lot. Later.
