Julian Contreras Jr: So I will take it.
Kendahl: That's Julian, by the way.
Julian Contreras Jr: Oh yeah, I have a name. Sorry, it's Julian. I'm just so excited about Match Point.
Kendahl: You know, I have this.
Julian Contreras Jr: Anyway, how you doing, buddy?
Kendahl: i'm doing okay I have to say, I think we've had this conversation. I've never actually watched that movie all the way through.
Julian Contreras Jr: That's uh, that's That's not making me very happy at all.
Kendahl: it's a It's kind of a sin I understand this.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah.
Kendahl: I do understand this.
Julian Contreras Jr: I don't know if it's a sin, but i like it a lot i've seen it so many times i've passed it on to people and say hey if you want to watch a movie that's just crazy with the Crazy ending and a twist.
Julian Contreras Jr: Watch this.
Kendahl: Yeah. Well, I'll tell you, I'm hoping, I'm really hoping that in the end. This is going to come out okay in the audio side. I'm trying something different today. my My computer's been acting funny, and even today I was like, hey, just give me a sec. I've got to set these headphones up. So I'm trying a new set of headphones.
Kendahl: uh with a different mic and we'll see I'm hoping it comes out. All right.
Julian Contreras Jr: Okay, it sounds good on this end.
Julian Contreras Jr: Hopefully it... goes through this way.
Kendahl: right but uh yeah i know things are going pretty good over here honestly it's i've just been I went to Topgolf for the first time on Saturday.
Kendahl: i I don't know if you've ever been to a Topgolf place.
Julian Contreras Jr: Oh very nice. I have not. I've always wanted to try it, but I don't want to blow out my shoulder like trying to impress the scores.
Kendahl: Uh... Well... I can tell you it's kind of neat because... They've got these games you can play. and obviously they have these like set markers on the driving range that you're supposed to hit and then this the one that we've got here is massive it's got three levels that you can you can actually shoot from
Julian Contreras Jr: Oh wow.
Kendahl: And. It was kind of neat because they had this game based on Sonic the Hedgehog. that So...
Julian Contreras Jr: Okay.
Kendahl: You could hit the ball in the middle of. bf nowhere of of the range like i i was hitting it all the way to the my slice was terrible i was hitting the the the nets to the far right and it's still like showing me gaining coins and all this stuff on the on the screen for points and i was like Okay.
Kendahl: That was a terrible shot.
Julian Contreras Jr: Nice. I definitely know there. There's a couple of listeners out there that have gone golfing with me and you just have to embrace the slice.
Kendahl: Yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: That's what we call it.
Kendahl: Yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: And if I wanted to go straight in the fairway, I'd have to aim way left and it would eventually curve over.
Kendahl: You're like halfway pointing to the car over in the parking lot to go straight
Julian Contreras Jr: it It's horrible. Yeah, my butt.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah. Particular. I think I went with Jay. And Jay's like, what are you doing? and I was like, this is just trust me. Watch. Sure enough. Every time.
Kendahl: it'll It'll straighten out, I promise.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah.
Kendahl: But yeah, that was, that was, that was fun. and then i did go see a really amazing movie on friday and we'll get to that in a minute so i want to see like how are you doing how was this because we're this is we've only been gone a week and we're right back so
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah, yeah. I'm so happy that it's Monday to Monday. We're here. I had an eventful week. I worked two days. I was on vacation for a few of them.
Kendahl: that
Julian Contreras Jr: I went to FanX.
Kendahl: okay
Julian Contreras Jr: That's the convention here in Salt Lake. Had a really good time. I only went one day. Usually I go two or three days, but I only wanted to see one person. So I bought one day ticket for Friday.
Julian Contreras Jr: And it was. Awesome. I planned it just right. I didn't want to go up too early to stand in line to stand in line to stand in line. You know? So I just like. Wow. I might as well just sit here and watch TV for a bit, get ready and go up late. and then just wait in a small line to register get my wristband and then just make my way back
Kendahl: okay
Julian Contreras Jr: worked out absolutely perfect. I went right back. Uh... The person I was going to meet, I think I sent you. The autograph. But it's...
Kendahl: Yep, yep
Julian Contreras Jr: spencer charnas i believe is how you say his last name the lead singer from ice nine kills So I was super stoked for that one.
Kendahl: Okay. Let's go.
Julian Contreras Jr: He signed my little Art the Clown record that they did the song for. super cool guy i did ask him a question for the show though I said, hey, if you're home by yourself.
Kendahl: Okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: Nobody else is there. You're just chilling out. What is your favorite scary movie to watch? Because if he knows Ice Nine Kills does... their music based on Scary movies. So he's Nothing too crazy, just the original scream. the original Halloween.
Julian Contreras Jr: And the original Friday the 13th is what he said.
Kendahl: oh
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah, nothing too crazy not terrifier even though that's what I told him mine was So we had a little quick conversation about that, but it was.
Kendahl: That's cool.
Julian Contreras Jr: It was fun.
Kendahl: So
Julian Contreras Jr: Super cool guy.
Kendahl: So the funny thing is, is that I realized a couple days later. that you said Ice Nine Kills and I thought you said Nine Inch Nails.
Julian Contreras Jr: Oh.
Kendahl: And so and so that's why i was that's why I texted you.
Julian Contreras Jr: No.
Kendahl: I was like, yeah, Trent Reznor is supposed to be an amazing guy. Yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: I was wondering why you said that. And I was like. All right. yeah
Kendahl: Because I thought you were talking about leasing it from Nine Inch Nails. I was like.
Julian Contreras Jr: Nope.
Kendahl: Yeah, he's... Like a cool guy, big tech dude and all this other stuff. And you're just like. Yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah, I guess i was confused but i was driving and so i was like oh whatever
Kendahl: Oh man, that was so funny.
Julian Contreras Jr: Anyway.
Kendahl: Yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: But... that was my day.
Kendahl: It's all good.
Julian Contreras Jr: And then I'm super excited. We have a stain. No, that's not, that's not the right concert. It's breaking Benjamin this week.
Kendahl: Oh, wow. Okay, that's cool.
Julian Contreras Jr: Followed right up. Bye. The en - The home opener. For the Utah Mammoth. hockey season is back.
Kendahl: oh
Julian Contreras Jr: All right. You got a little mammoth hat going on.
Kendahl: Got you. I got to, uh...
Julian Contreras Jr: Got my mammoth hoodie.
Kendahl: I did not get you pegged for being a hockey guy, and I love it. I love it
Julian Contreras Jr: Well, you gotta try new things.
Kendahl: Yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: So.
Kendahl: That's funny
Julian Contreras Jr: It just came. I don't know. The whole atmosphere thing. We've talked about this before. that But I hate being hot. So when you go to a hockey game, it's cold.
Kendahl: Mm hmm.
Julian Contreras Jr: So there's already a plus. The music is just insanely loud in there and it's all like yacht rock and rock just to keep you engaged in the game.
Kendahl: Yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: And then they can hate each other.
Kendahl: Yep.
Julian Contreras Jr: anytime it's it's pretty cool and then like i said once you figure out the rules the game slows down and it doesn't just look like
Kendahl: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: They're throwing the puck to nowhere and skating after it
Kendahl: A bunch of randomness, yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah.
Kendahl: yeah it's it's i mean i i loved it as a kid i played it through my young adult life and so yeah Hockey's... Great. Love it.
Julian Contreras Jr: yeah so go mammoth that's the last i'll talk about this for now we'll see what happens but i got quite a few games coming up that i'm going to
Kendahl: Love it.
Kendahl: Thanks.
Julian Contreras Jr: And then officially the countdown is on. 32 days.
Kendahl: Yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: Wait, no. No 30 days
Kendahl: No, 30 days. Yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah.
Kendahl: Yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yep, and then I'm east coast bound.
Kendahl: So. Mm -hmm. Yeah, honestly, it'll be it'll be awesome.
Julian Contreras Jr: It's going to be fun.
Kendahl: i've I've got actually... a surprise for you. i'm i'm doing that now So it'll be cool when you get here, I hope. It goes up on the page when you see it.
Kendahl: I think you'll like it
Julian Contreras Jr: Okay.
Kendahl: And then, yeah, like it's just. yeah, we've got some we've got some fun things that we're gonna be doing and And honestly, it's just it's. one of those things where i was uh telling the wife about it this weekend it's it's neat because we haven't seen each other in a really long time
Kendahl: And. The irony, I guess, or the coincidence is she has, my wife has some girlfriends that are coming out to hang out and same thing. She hasn't seen them in a really long time, old college, high school girlfriends.
Kendahl: And they're doing the same thing. they They're like, hey, can we? Come to the East Coast and hang out for a few days. And so it's kind of funny because they're going to. You guys are going to basically just swap places minus a few days.
Kendahl: So.
Julian Contreras Jr: Oh, okay.
Kendahl: uh yeah it's gonna be kind of interesting so yeah this is a good month there's a lot of fun things going on So.
Julian Contreras Jr: Heck yeah.
Kendahl: But all right
Kendahl: i am I am excited to talk about this movie. all right
Julian Contreras Jr: All right.
Kendahl: So.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yep. I'm excited to hear about it.
Kendahl: All right, so I, on Friday, I was trying to convince the wife to go see. Uh, Oh my gosh, my brain just froze.
Kendahl: Resident Evil. And... I've really wanted to see this. I've heard a lot of great things about it. And I've been watching a lot of interviews with the director. just really wanted to do it and she's like yeah i'm just not in i don't want to go see that this weekend I said, okay.
Kendahl: So. I had seen previews of the movie Heart of the Beast, right? This is Brad Pitt and J .K.
Julian Contreras Jr: Mm hmm.
Kendahl: Simmons. i obby frank i don't even know why they're throwing his name out there He's in the movie for less than five minutes. out of 90 minute runtime. And I don't want to say he doesn't play a pivotal role in the movie, but he...
Kendahl: He doesn't really play this like... Great. element that's if he was not in that movie the movie would be the movie type thing right like
Julian Contreras Jr: Okay.
Kendahl: He could have not shown up. and the movie still would have been the same. Just saying.
Julian Contreras Jr: Alright.
Kendahl: Just saying.
Julian Contreras Jr: Interesting.
Kendahl: So, anyhow...
Kendahl: So it it it stars Brad Pitt with this dog, and the dog's name is Odin. The dog's real name is also Odin. And the the premise of the movie is... Brad Pitt basically is this retired special forces.
Kendahl: just crazy, weird guy. that has this amazing special forces dog scout And they've both been through a lot. And so now they're kind of at this point where they both need to find peace in their life.
Kendahl: Well, he's decided that he's going to do like a puddle jumper type. plane hopping around Alaskan wilderness. to just enjoy life after the you know the special forces And. I'm not giving anything away here.
Kendahl: He ends up getting into a really bad plane crash, and now he has to survive the Alaskan wilderness. I'm going to tell you right now, you guys. This is hands down probably the best movie I've seen. And I mean hands down best movie I've seen.
Kendahl: Bar none. I will watch this movie two, three, four more times. I will buy this movie. i i Hands down, I will i will i will watch it. at a dozen or more times over the next several years.
Julian Contreras Jr: Oh wow.
Kendahl: Just such a great movie.
Julian Contreras Jr: That good?
Kendahl: It's inspiring. It's the whole time you're just like on the edge of your seat of what's going to happen. But even when you know what's going to happen, it still becomes this great movie.
Kendahl: there's There's some really, really. I want to call it visceral moments where you recognize. the the toll that being in the special forces takes on both Characters both Brad Pitt and the dog Odin.
Kendahl: And I think that's really important because this movie tugs at the heart of people that are dog people, hands down. There's no question about it. But it shows a lot of what. It takes to become.
Kendahl: That. Good. at being the the scout special forces you know dog and you know i won't I won't give much away because there's there's a lot that goes on in this movie that I don't want to give away.
Kendahl: Bye. Brad Pitt. is Amazing. I mean, just probably one of the better performances i've seen in a long time from him he's not goofy He's not super serious, but he's definitely like...
Kendahl: He's locked into what the role requires of him and what it required. to be to represent that like that handler part of being in Special Forces, and then that PTSD part of Special Forces.
Kendahl: And. The J .K. Simmons character is this this weird weirdness guy that drops in and he He basically presents the name of the movie because he says that, you know, your dog Hey.
Kendahl: Basically your dog is the heart of the beast. and or has the heart of the beast. so it kind of i understand the reasoning why they brought him in but it just It's weird. But I can tell you right now.
Kendahl: I... This is one of those movies that you can go see it in theaters. It's beautiful. The landscape is gorgeous. the the The overall storyline is really really fun to watch.
Kendahl: And I'm honestly going to give it a 9 out of 10. And the only reason I i don't give it a 10 out of 10 is some of the animation. especially with some of the action sequences.
Kendahl: for animals in this film. are a little goofy Yeah, they're very much cgi to a really bad extent.
Julian Contreras Jr: All right.
Kendahl: but it doesn't take away from the movie you know how like some bad cgi really takes i'm looking at you know the mummy returns, you know, kind of thing that, that type of CGI is terrible, right?
Julian Contreras Jr: yeah right
Kendahl: It takes away from the movie.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah.
Kendahl: This, this does not. But at the same time. i think they could have done a better job but i understand why they they kind of cut corners on that Yeah go see it. Very very good movie. Very, very good movie.
Julian Contreras Jr: Perfect.
Kendahl: so
Julian Contreras Jr: And I was going to go see. Prime time this morning.
Kendahl: Oh, okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: That's the new A24.
Kendahl: Yep.
Julian Contreras Jr: The Chris Hansen movie. It looks really. weird and good. which is right up my alley. But I chose to do my notes instead this morning, so...
Kendahl: Okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: I didn't go see that. But I will. But as I was watching Lanterns just now. Back Rooms is on HBO.
Kendahl: I saw that.
Julian Contreras Jr: so if y 'all haven't seen back rooms in the theater you didn't rent it you want to jump on you have hbo and you have a good two hours to get weirded out.
Kendahl: Yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: Go watch Backrooms.
Kendahl: Yeah. Yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: It's right there
Kendahl: It was good. It was good.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah.
Kendahl: And it's not like it they they they put they. A lot of the theaters panned it as this horror film, and even the industry is saying it's a horror film. I guess by all definition it is, but it's more like a...
Kendahl: Thriller? Ish.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah.
Kendahl: I don't know I don't know.
Julian Contreras Jr: there I mean, there are some.
Kendahl: i don't i't
Julian Contreras Jr: some moments in that movie that are scary. So.
Kendahl: Yeah. Bye. Yeah. There's...
Julian Contreras Jr: Talking about the Christmas tree.
Kendahl: There's others that are scarier.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah. For sure. But speaking of scary.
Kendahl: so
Julian Contreras Jr: Uh, I'm just going to get us right into our topic, if you don't mind.
Kendahl: Yeah. No, yeah. I mean, this is what we talked about last week after the show. We're like, what are we going to do? And I said, let's do. A zombie theme. I said, but that's that's not just zombie -themed movies, because we've talked about zombie movies in the past. I said, let's talk about movies.
Kendahl: that are the weird maybe out of this normal span of what we know of as zombies, right? I mean, we all know of the Dawn of the Dead. We all know of the you know George Romero movies.
Kendahl: we know of you know like this yeah the zombie genre is taking over everywhere you know you got walking dead but we wanted to go a little bit Beside that normality of zombies.
Julian Contreras Jr: Mm hmm.
Kendahl: And what could we find? I feel like we found a pretty good mix.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah. So I titled this one, Not Your Average Zombie Flicks. So.
Kendahl: Did you know there's actually a movie called Not Your Average Zombie Movie?
Julian Contreras Jr: Oh.
Julian Contreras Jr: No.
Kendahl: Yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: Are you serious?
Kendahl: Yes. I...
Julian Contreras Jr: I've heard of zombie strippers, but not that.
Kendahl: I've... No, I found that in the in the mix of... doing some notes the other day. I was like, not your average zombies. What? Okay. Peace.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah, that's uh, I'll have to look that one up and see
Kendahl: Ha ha. So, all right, so. Do we want to just do a rundown or do we want to do a back and forth?
Julian Contreras Jr: uh let's just do back and forth because i don't think i know all three of yours i think i know two of them
Kendahl: I actually have one, two, three, I have four, I have five technically, but...
Julian Contreras Jr: So I'll have you go first.
Kendahl: Yeah, we'll do I'll do my four.
Julian Contreras Jr: Okay, sounds good. Go ahead with your first one.
Kendahl: Okay, so this one. is the By far the weirdest one of my mix. It's called... Zombies. Literally, it's A -H -H -H -H zombies.
Julian Contreras Jr: Alright, I think I have seen this one.
Kendahl: Okay, so this is this is a zombie movie from the perspective of the zombie So it's this group of friends.
Julian Contreras Jr: All right.
Kendahl: that end up becoming zombies. And. They don't know They're zombies. And so you see everything from their perspective as a zombie.
Kendahl: In the real world. And so like. they're they're trying to talk to people and they're talking like chipmunks and like what is going on what Like this is weird. Why are they acting so weird?
Kendahl: But then it'll flip to the real world and it'll show them. And obviously they're just. and just making no sense at all.
Julian Contreras Jr: Okay.
Kendahl: And you can see the difference between the two because there's a change in the way that it like.
Julian Contreras Jr: All right.
Kendahl: the the visuals shift every time it's it's stupid it's funny this it came out in 2007
Julian Contreras Jr: Okay.
Kendahl: I'll be honest with you, this one's a hard one to find. I think it's on Tubi. And it got a whopping 55%. on Rotten Tomatoes.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah. All right. That's... strangely where i think the dynamic of all zombie movies goes and lives He's right in the middle.
Kendahl: uh All right. ie I actually have two in the 80%. I was pretty surprised by that
Julian Contreras Jr: right awesome is there anybody in that movie
Kendahl: No.
Julian Contreras Jr: That we would know?
Kendahl: No, no, not at all.
Julian Contreras Jr: No, not at all? Okay.
Kendahl: it was It's such a quirky, weird movie. I'm trying to think. I don't think there's anybody that's like... No, there's there's nobody of like... Real consequence.
Julian Contreras Jr: Okay.
Kendahl: hey
Julian Contreras Jr: Perfect. I'll go with my next one.
Kendahl: Okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: So I was doing these three and I didn't think I was following on a theme. But after I watched all three, I pretty much came up with... The Zomromcom.
Kendahl: Yeah, okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: That's the I didn't mean to do it but it just happened.
Kendahl: Okay.
Kendahl: All right.
Julian Contreras Jr: So my first one that we watched was a 24. 2014. Life after Beth. This one is rated R.
Kendahl: Okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: Got a Rotten Tomatoes score of 46%.
Kendahl: who
Julian Contreras Jr: Yes. However, listen to this this lineup of... people that are in this movie. We got. Aubrey Plaza.
Kendahl: Yep.
Julian Contreras Jr: Dane DeHaan. John C. Reilly.
Kendahl: Mhm.
Julian Contreras Jr: Molly Shannon. and there was just a plethora of others the kid from uh Criminal minds. My wife knew his name.
Kendahl: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: I didn't write it down
Kendahl: I know what you're talking about. Yep.
Julian Contreras Jr: like Every time they introduce a character, I'm like, oh my goodness. There's another Cheryl Hines is in this one.
Kendahl: Yeah, I
Julian Contreras Jr: So I Go ahead
Kendahl: I have seen, I was going to say, I have i have seen... Stuff about this movie, but I've never seen this movie
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah, if you watch the trailer... It kind of gives everything away during the movie. but the movie is a lot darker than the trailer makes it seem.
Kendahl: a
Julian Contreras Jr: because we watched the trailer after we finished the movie and about 30 minutes End of the movie. My wife was like. What? is happening is she a zombie what Is she?
Julian Contreras Jr: So it just starts out with.
Kendahl: yeah
Julian Contreras Jr: showing Aubrey Plaza, who plays Beth, just on a hike.
Kendahl: Mm -hmm.
Julian Contreras Jr: It doesn't show her die or anything like that. But there all of a sudden they're having a funeral.
Kendahl: Okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: And she got bit by a snake on her hike. That she went on alone because the boyfriend didn't want to.
Kendahl: Okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: And. The boyfriend is hanging out with John C. Reilly, who plays Beth's dad. and they're trying to cope with their feelings they're playing chess And then all of a sudden the next day.
Julian Contreras Jr: He can't get a hold of him. He's not answering his texts. He's not answering his calls. And he discovers when he goes over and tries to look through the windows that Beth is back. And they're trying to hide her.
Julian Contreras Jr: Because obviously she's dead.
Kendahl: Right.
Julian Contreras Jr: And it just. goes from there the movie goes off the rails it's crazy Uh, Aubrey Plaza. In my notes here, she carries this entire movie.
Kendahl: I can feel that.
Julian Contreras Jr: Like her acting going between Beth. And then a zombie that's sort of nice. and then all of a sudden at the end she's full zombie mode It's crazy, but she's still Aubrey Plaza funny, just off.
Julian Contreras Jr: The cuff saying weird things as a zombie.
Kendahl: Mm hmm. Mm hmm.
Julian Contreras Jr: I gave it a six and a half just because it was. A little slow.
Julian Contreras Jr: But if you're looking at something you can watch with. Like on a date night, let's say all of these movies besides my last one are right there like if you want to see a zombie movie but you also want to watch A rom -com? At the same time...
Julian Contreras Jr: Be like, hey. I got this one let's get popcorn let's get under a blanket Let's sit down and watch this thing That's my first one.
Kendahl: Okay. Okay. All right. All right, well. Mine is... Also... kind of. I've got two that are more of a like rom -com -ish.
Kendahl: Mine is Fido. yeah I think we've talked about this one before.
Julian Contreras Jr: I've seen the cover of Fido a few times, yes.
Kendahl: Okay, have you ever seen the movie?
Julian Contreras Jr: I don't think I've sat through it now.
Kendahl: Oh, man. Okay. So this is a movie that I'm telling you right now, you know. You know most of the actors in this movie. So. you're going to watch this movie and be like, oh i know who that is oh i know who that is so like one of the Probably the two biggest ones are Carrie and Moss.
Kendahl: You probably know her from The Matrix. Right?
Julian Contreras Jr: Mm -hmm
Kendahl: So and then you also have. Tim Nelson. So he was from he's in. uh, oh man What was that one movie with... George Clooney and where they play the singers.
Kendahl: Man. Brothers.
Julian Contreras Jr: Batman.
Kendahl: No.
Kendahl: Anyway, so I guarantee you know who he is. And then the guy that plays Fido, I guarantee you also know who he is, is Billy Connolly. He's He's a famous voice. He's the guy that voiced the father of brave. but like pretty well -known scottish british actor Anyway.
Julian Contreras Jr: Okay.
Kendahl: This is one of those films... 100%. As goofy as it gets. So in this realm, this it takes place like 50s, 60s. Zombies have... basically been recognized and society has said okay well we need to control the zombies And instead of...
Kendahl: killing them. They put these collars on them and make them like... i Don't call them slaves But they're kind of slaves because one of the guys has the zombie.
Kendahl: let's just say for his personal needs and so But, like...
Julian Contreras Jr: Oh, geez. Okay. but
Kendahl: But the reason why the main character is Fido is he's basically this kid's... Dog? see he's like this kid's dog so he's supposed to like get water and you know
Julian Contreras Jr: All right.
Kendahl: set the dinner table. It's supposed to be like this. you know, Butler person. But he becomes more of a dog because he walks him and takes him places. and And then the movie kind of gets out of hand. and But it's just it's funny. it's It's goofy. It's stupid. But there's like this romantic element that's built into this film too. because zombies can feel and they can they like can...
Kendahl: control their feelings on some level. So it's it's good. I recommend it. It had a 71 % on Rotten Tomatoes. It's also on Tubi. It came out in 2006.
Kendahl: I'm going to tell you right now. I would give it a 7 out of 10. It's worth a watch. It's...
Julian Contreras Jr: Okay.
Kendahl: It's a goofy movie that if you're not looking for something that's too gory, it's not on the horror level of zombies, but it is definitely good. It's it's funny. there are a few uh gruesome scenes in there but hello people it's a zombie movie duh
Julian Contreras Jr: Yep.
Kendahl: So.
Julian Contreras Jr: I kind of go hand in hand there.
Kendahl: Yeah. Right. So, yeah, definitely, definitely see it. I guarantee you're going to watch this movie and be like, i I know that guy. Oh. I know that actress. Oh, I know that guy too. Just because they got a bunch of really... b -level actors that are always like in the background you know them from everything else but yeah they're Yeah.
Kendahl: they' It's good. It's funny.
Julian Contreras Jr: Okay. that one's fito All right, All right. For some reason, all my movies... They're all 2015. One's 2014, but it was late. So also didn't do that on purpose.
Kendahl: Mmm. Okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: My next one. Is free on Prime right now. Go ahead and watch it. It is unrated. Got an 86 % on Rotten Tomato. Not sure why.
Kendahl: Wow.
Julian Contreras Jr: I don't think this one was reviewed. A lot. Night of the Living Deb.
Kendahl: Oh. Okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: i don't know if you've seen this one
Kendahl: No, I know of it don't know I have not seen it
Julian Contreras Jr: But it's a... It stars Maria Thayer. Ray Wise, Michael Cassidy. Chris Marquette. and an actress I didn't know.
Julian Contreras Jr: Sid Wilder.
Kendahl: Hmm.
Julian Contreras Jr: The whole thing takes place. Deb is at a bar with her friend and she... she's a very quirky girl let's say she doesn't always say the right thing she's very awkward when she is talking She says some.
Julian Contreras Jr: Things that you were like, why would you even say that? That's not even funny but she meets the guy at the bar and she takes his drink just happens to be exact same drink she likes and then he pegs her for a deborah And she's like, how did you know my name? And he's like, yeah, you just look like a Deborah.
Kendahl: Okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: And then he's already fighting with his girlfriend. So he ends up taking. Deb home with them. Nothing happens, but they wake up the next morning. And... Like. Most of these movies go.
Julian Contreras Jr: the zombies are out and about and they're doing stuff. Shaun of the dead did a really good one where he walked to the store. And they're just kind of.
Kendahl: Mm hmm.
Julian Contreras Jr: walking around him and he doesn't know he noticed This is kind of how it goes for a little bit. And then they have to team up and they have to go find her friend. go to his parents' house, obviously.
Julian Contreras Jr: And the whole thing goes and the whole. premise of the movie is how the zombie Started.
Kendahl: Okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: And. It solves that mystery real quick. And it's just in this one town. It's not worldwide. It's not countrywide. And it has something to do with. Other things I'm not gonna ruin it right now because that's not worried
Kendahl: Okay. Okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: uh i give this one a seven it's it's more fast -paced and it is Funnier than... Life After Beth. So I gave this one a seven.
Kendahl: Mhm.
Julian Contreras Jr: mostly because it was free on Prime and I had to pay $4 to rent. Life after bath.
Kendahl: Yeah, yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: So that upped the score. but it was It was okay.
Kendahl: Okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: I like Maria Therer as an actress. She's just funny.
Kendahl: Nice. Okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: But yeah, that's Night of the Living Dead.
Kendahl: All right. Do you want me to do the one with people? That. People will know. Like actors or the one that nobody will know anyone?
Julian Contreras Jr: Let's stick with people we know, I guess.
Kendahl: Alright. So my next one, I want to say like people know this movie, but they forget this movie. And it's called warm bodies
Julian Contreras Jr: Love that movie
Kendahl: Okay, so if you don't know about this film, it is a take on Romeo and Juliet. And, i like I think this is a really fun movie. This is one of those movies that... it's It starts off with this.
Kendahl: Zombie. So the it's played by, I've got to remember his name, Nicholas Holt. And I guarantee you, no, Nicholas Holt, he played. He played in Superman as Lex Luthor. He played in The Great.
Kendahl: He's played in, oh my gosh, what else has he played in? uh, Come on. What am I what am i thinking of? He played in...
Kendahl: Wasn't what it one I was just thinking about Oh, juror number two.
Julian Contreras Jr: All right, right.
Kendahl: and then a long time ago he played in about a boy that was like his kind of like step into like people you know, knowing him. and then he's played in a couple other like oddly funny movies. Like, uh, is it Reinfeld? Renfield?
Kendahl: with Nicolas Cage. Can't remember that one is so I mean I guarantee you, you know this guy. but anyhow so and then you've got Teresa Palmer who I know some people out there know like she's done a few things nothing like huge but she was in oh The Choice That's right. She was in The Choice.
Kendahl: And then I think she's in a couple other. Oh, Lights Out. That was the other horror movie that she was in.
Julian Contreras Jr: Isn't she in that Adam Sandler?
Julian Contreras Jr: Bedtime stories? That's her, right?
Kendahl: Oh, yeah, yeah, as the as the the debutante person.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah.
Kendahl: Yep. And then you've got, yeah, you've got John Malkovich, Dave Franco. So. Leo Tipton, I guarantee you may not know the name, but I guarantee you know who it is.
Kendahl: So who plays? uh The. is it is it julie i think is her name it's it's her best friend anyway so this whole movie takes place of the real world and the zombie world are separated And the zombies.
Kendahl: Basically, a are at a point where the guy that For R, who's Romeo. he starts to feel things. And the more he feels, the more real.
Kendahl: he becomes like back to human almost. And so he starts to like speak and everything. It's quirky. It's funny. It's definitely a... Take on zombies. I mean, it's a... definite take on zombies This one had an 81 % of rotten tomatoes. Came out in 2013.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah, and that one's...
Julian Contreras Jr: That one's only rated like PG -13, right?
Kendahl: Yeah, yeah. And it's I mean, it's available on pretty much every major platform, but I don't think it's. you can watch it you have to buy it or rent it because I couldn't find it anywhere to like watch it, watch it. It was just.
Kendahl: everywhere i looked it was available but it was like three dollars here and five dollars there and four dollars here So. But yeah, I mean, this this one has a... Smorgasbord of actors and actresses you'll know.
Kendahl: I guarantee you'll recognize everybody in this film. It's really good. It's really funny. It's kind of heartwarming because, again, it goes into that romantic comedy because it's a rome play on Romeo and Juliet.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yep.
Kendahl: So, yeah. Definitely good.
Julian Contreras Jr: nice that's definitely a good choice i haven't seen that one a few years but i definitely remember watching that one in theaters
Kendahl: Mm hmm.
Julian Contreras Jr: Alright, my third one. Also 2015.
Julian Contreras Jr: Burying the X.
Kendahl: Oh yeah
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah, it's rated R. Rotten Tomatoes gave it a whopping 30%. I think it's a little bit better than 30%.
Kendahl: yeah
Julian Contreras Jr: This one you could find on Philo if you have that one. Or you can rent it on Apple for like $4.
Kendahl: Oh, okay. Hmm.
Julian Contreras Jr: it's in my library I already own it. You'll find out why here in a second. But this one stars... Anton Yelich. yell Yelchin, my bad.
Julian Contreras Jr: Anton Yelchin. Who? is tragically not with us. Ashley Green. Alexander Daddario. and Oliver Cooper. And.
Kendahl: Oh, wait. So that's that's the guy that played in... He played in like Odd Thomas and Star Trek, right?
Julian Contreras Jr: Yep.
Kendahl: Yeah, okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: Mm hmm.
Kendahl: Yep. Yep.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah, you know who he is. We know the tragic story on how he passed. Not. Not for us to say, but you can look that one up. It's tragic.
Kendahl: Hey, but you know what?
Julian Contreras Jr: Uh, that.
Kendahl: side Side note here. I'll tell you what. the The interesting thing...
Julian Contreras Jr: Okay, side note.
Kendahl: this We're going to sidestep for half a second. So the interesting thing about his death is his death. actually forced a lawsuit. that would change. a a situation that would then probably save hundreds of other lives. So I'm not, i'm not you know.
Kendahl: i'm i'm It's very sad that that we that the world lost him because he was a great actor. But in his death, he actually probably saved. hundreds, if not... maybe even thousands of lives because of of of a malfunction that they recognized in this vehicle. So I'm just saying.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah.
Kendahl: you know
Julian Contreras Jr: But I mean they also robbed us of the rest of the odd Thomas series
Kendahl: Yeah.
Kendahl: Oh, geez.
Julian Contreras Jr: So now that's just going to be a standalone.
Kendahl: Yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: even though there's...
Kendahl: I know
Julian Contreras Jr: Well, it's multiple books, right?
Kendahl: Oh, there's seven. Yeah, I have all of them.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah. Yeah. Anyway, back to this movie, Burying the X. let's get back to this. So this one is Anton. He's... Has a girlfriend. It is Evelyn, played by Ashley Green.
Julian Contreras Jr: She... is... very i don't know how to say this but she's very horned up for him But it doesn't seem to be enough.
Julian Contreras Jr: it It's just not working out between the two of them and he wants to figure out how to like break up with her. So he asked his. Half -brother. to help him out. and Whatever and he works at a Halloween store Which is perfect for this movie And so the box he's unloading is called the Satan Genie.
Kendahl: Okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: basically the same thing as a genie but it only grants one wish but it does it the evil way And it says that right on the tag.
Kendahl: yeah Okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: And so when him and Ashley or him and Evelyn. They're having adult time in the back room of his work. She doesn't seem very professional. Just saying.
Kendahl: anything
Julian Contreras Jr: She picks it up and she's like, this is just crap. Like all this is crap. Everything Halloween related. It's so stupid and all this. And she says that they're going to be together forever. And she makes him promise.
Julian Contreras Jr: And so, as he promises... You can see the Satan Genie activate. And. He gets the courage up. after she moves in with him and changes everything about the apartment He's like, I can't do it anymore.
Julian Contreras Jr: His... Half -brother's like, all right, have her meet you somewhere very public just in case she starts kicking you in the nuts. Somebody's going to call 911.
Julian Contreras Jr: but as she's Getting to the park. something happens. and she passes away
Kendahl: Okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: and and he goes into this whole funk and there's a whole Uh... I don't know montage of the plant dying and his like He doesn't know what to do. He can't move on. Even though he was going to break up with her, he just can't. He thinks it's all his fault.
Kendahl: This sounds like Teemu Obsession.
Julian Contreras Jr: So eventually.
Kendahl: I'm just saying.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah, pretty much.
Julian Contreras Jr: Pretty much. But that way earlier. like 11 years before.
Kendahl: Hmm.
Julian Contreras Jr: So he finally goes out to a movie. He likes B movies, old time cinema. That's scary. Like the old stuff. And that's where he meets. Alec.
Julian Contreras Jr: Alexandra. Olivia.
Kendahl: Mm hmm. mm -hmm
Julian Contreras Jr: For the second time, he walks into her malt shop. and that's what she does she owns her own stuff and all of her flavors are based on old movies and Stuff that he really likes.
Kendahl: Okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: So they run back into each other. They're hanging out. They're running through the graveyard. And this is when. Evelyn comes back. And then you're dealing with the zombie form and she knows she's a zombie.
Julian Contreras Jr: Like from get go. She's like, no, it's going to be fine.
Kendahl: Okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: It's going to be fine. and She keeps trying to sleep with them and everything.
Kendahl: Yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: i like this movie it is pretty good i think it's better than 30 percent But I'm i'm a... bias for no reason whatsoever.
Kendahl: None.
Julian Contreras Jr: None. At all. so yeah give this one a try It's Philo or you can buy it. It's. It's a funny movie. If... I was lining those three up. This would be the first one I watch again.
Julian Contreras Jr: Because the humor is just more.
Kendahl: Okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: Dark and funny. The other ones are just.
Kendahl: Okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: Stupid.
Kendahl: Okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: But that's my third one. So I did watch one more.
Kendahl: All right.
Julian Contreras Jr: But I'll... I'll let you go again.
Kendahl: All right, so my last one that I'm going to review. is hashtag alive. So. a lot of people have probably seen this and just skipped right over it because it's a korean film on Netflix.
Kendahl: I'm gonna tell you right now Do not. Absolutely do not pass over this. This is probably it's so it came out in 2020. This is dead center of like COVID and it has an 88 % on Rotten Tomatoes.
Kendahl: I would say. Most of our viewers are probably going to give it a 90 or more.
Julian Contreras Jr: Oh, wow. Okay.
Kendahl: it's it's It's good. So you have... You have this. you know I don't know if you guys have ever seen... Some of the really big metro apartment complexes that are in like Korea and China.
Kendahl: m Especially in light of the...
Julian Contreras Jr: Just on movies.
Kendahl: like What's that?
Julian Contreras Jr: Just on movies for me. Like i've never
Kendahl: Yeah, yeah. So if. If you've ever seen those like big metropolitan apartment complexes, they're just massive. And the... the The places...
Kendahl: that they live in like the actual apartments are pretty small and compact like new york style living right very very compact and Anyhow. So the world goes to pot and this kid who's kind of a numbskull just.
Kendahl: really Mostly dumb. figures out that He's... not going to be able to get out of his apartment. And zombies are just everywhere. And so he looks across the way and just on the other side of the gap.
Kendahl: is a girl. who is also alive in her apartment. And he's like... basically you know Can I get your number? but but So...
Julian Contreras Jr: Okay.
Kendahl: They start chatting, and then he he gets to the point where he's like... we We need to survive. And so I'm going to leave. And. the The scenes are... Just absolutely intense. This movie starts...
Kendahl: pretty quick. Everything is very fast. These zombies run. They're smart. it there's there's all kinds of really interesting scenes of of him like jumping into another apartment to hide and it ends up being like He can't stay there. He has to move on.
Kendahl: Mistakes are made and zombies get in. and He's got to like climb up the outside part of of the apartment complex. it's just it's good it's just it's very good it's it's a much more Like, urban take?
Kendahl: on the zombie movie because a lot of times we end up watching these movies and they're out in a little bf of nowhere and they're trying to run from zombies and so yeah they have these big open fields they could just take off on right
Kendahl: but this is like this is massive metropolitan urban life in korea and the zombie apocalypse happens so there's like hundreds of thousands of these things and he's got to figure out how to get around them and and stay alive you know so it's really good go watch it i i recommend this is one of those if you're okay with it
Julian Contreras Jr: Okay.
Kendahl: Watch it in subtitles because there's a lot of inflection in the voices. There's a lot of the conversation that they're having. It's better in the subtitles because you understand.
Kendahl: More of the emotion that's happening in some of the scenes If you don't... The dub isn't that bad like it's not it's not bad at to the point where you're gonna be like i don't understand what's going on i've watched it in both I think it's.
Kendahl: good in both i just i liked it in in the korean with subtitles better So yeah, definitely. Don't don't pass this one up. as Like I said, hashtag alive. Super good.
Julian Contreras Jr: Okay. You said this was on Netflix?
Kendahl: Netflix yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: Okay. See, i'll I'll definitely watch that one. All right. For my last one, I just threw this one in here just because. I couldn't. go three Zomromcoms. I had to do something different to get me out of the...
Kendahl: yeah
Julian Contreras Jr: That. Flair.
Kendahl: hey
Julian Contreras Jr: so this one is also 2015 i didn't think it was that long ago 73 i'll rot tomatoes you can find this little lovely gem on prime for free It's an hour and 17 minutes and they call it a movie.
Julian Contreras Jr: Zombievers.
Kendahl: Oh, geez. Okay, this is just gluttonous zombies.
Julian Contreras Jr: but
Julian Contreras Jr: i I remember watching this movie the first time and I was just laughing my butt off and I was like, why haven't I ever watched that again? I've. Told everybody about it. One of my fantasy football teams was called the Zombievers at one point.
Julian Contreras Jr: This was rated R and it definitely is rated R.
Kendahl: Yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: There's nudity galore. There's just... swearing it's just i didn't even bother writing down any of the actors Because I don't know any of them.
Kendahl: I wouldn't say. I don't know they've done anything.
Julian Contreras Jr: Except for... Bill Burr. is a truck driver right at the very beginning.
Kendahl: Oh. Okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: That's the only person I really recognized.
Kendahl: Yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: It's super super different There's bloopers after the movie ends that are that make the whole movie worth it because they do use practical effects in some of the
Kendahl: who
Julian Contreras Jr: The Beavers.
Kendahl: Mm hmm.
Julian Contreras Jr: is Is what I'm going to say. It's just super funny. If you want a zombie movie, but you don't want to stay up all night and you want to laugh. Zombievers is definitely the way to go.
Julian Contreras Jr: It's... I couldn't use any of the quoted. lines from it. I was trying to.
Kendahl: yeah
Julian Contreras Jr: It's...
Kendahl: i've I've actually never seen this.
Julian Contreras Jr: But...
Kendahl: i i've I've heard a lot about it. I've heard that it's basically a movie that knows what it is. it's just It just knows exactly the line it wants to tow. has no interest in being anything different, but...
Julian Contreras Jr: No.
Kendahl: I've never actually watched it.
Julian Contreras Jr: Uh, the... The girls at the beginning when they're looking for the beavers is hilarious. There's... I was like, huh? Dozens of beaver jokes. it's It's just funny.
Kendahl: Right.
Julian Contreras Jr: but that was my fourth one i threw that one on there it's barely october so i'll definitely watch more i don't know if i'm gonna watch any more zombie movies but
Kendahl: Yeah.
Kendahl: Yeah, I
Julian Contreras Jr: that was It's a good one.
Kendahl: and and i was telling you the one i wanted to see that it's not again it's also Not out there. in the in the populated world is the dead won't die And I think this one's on, is it on Prime or Netflix?
Kendahl: I want to say never.
Julian Contreras Jr: I think when I watched it, it was on Netflix.
Kendahl: I won't say it was Netflix. I don't have all the details on this one, but this one is, you know, you've got Bill Murray, Adam Driver, Selena Gomez. Like this is another one of those. It's got a pretty stacked cast.
Kendahl: and i've heard it's really good I. i i just I haven't had to run that got around to watching it. I was going to try to before this episode, but yeah, that's that's on my list to watch in the coming days for sure.
Julian Contreras Jr: All right. I will say I have watched that movie. it's going to be a lot different than you think it is.
Kendahl: Oh really?
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah.
Kendahl: Okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: It's... definitely not what i expected it to turn out to be but it was still really good
Kendahl: Alright.
Julian Contreras Jr: Bill Murray and Adam Driver, they carry the entire movie.
Kendahl: Okay.
Julian Contreras Jr: It's good.
Kendahl: Alright. Yeah it's on my list. so
Julian Contreras Jr: Nice. So I'm out of movies for zombies for this week. We're going to have to come up with a different theme going into the next episode.
Kendahl: Yep.
Julian Contreras Jr: And... We did make a promise. We are going to do at least. Probably two more. Let's not guarantee three. But let's do two more.
Kendahl: I think we could probably get two in. Yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah.
Kendahl: Hands down.
Julian Contreras Jr: Perfect.
Kendahl: so And i and we're goingnna stay with the I think we're going to stay with the thriller horror.
Julian Contreras Jr: Well...
Kendahl: uh halloweenish we'll call it halloweenish how about that the halloweenish
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah.
Kendahl: uh theme for the next couple of episodes because i think you know for everybody listening These are the opportunities to see some just. Things that we like oddities like the night like the movies we talked about tonight.
Kendahl: and then you know some other maybe uh bigger movies that people kind of brush off because of one reason or another. So.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah. Alright. that's That was a good episode. Hopefully some of these suggestions will make your guys' this night. There's some good ones in there. but
Kendahl: I'm telling you, if you just want mind -numbing movie Fido.

Kendahl: Hands down. That's that movie.
Julian Contreras Jr: Yeah.
Julian Contreras Jr: All right. We're going to wrap this one up. Kendall, you got any, uh, Final words. wisdom for us for the next seven days.
Kendahl: My... You know what my final words and wisdom is Don't get mad at the things that are not in your control Don't get upset at the things that you can't control.
Julian Contreras Jr: of Very well said.
Kendahl: But just remember, if you have and you can. and you're able to make a difference. Don't hesitate Just do it. Because I guarantee you.
Kendahl: One, you'll feel good about it. And then two, you're going to make a difference in somebody's life.
Julian Contreras Jr: Nice. Until next time. I just wanted a malted.
Kendahl: And don't forget. Turn on. Something good.
