Trina Kay: welcome to episode three of this side of someday i'm trina i'm julie And this is episode three, Wake Up for Something.
Trina Kay: First off, I just want to say we made it to episode three. We did. We did. So we will. Guys, we promise it's going to get better after this. We're, you know, we're learning. And maybe we'll get an intro at some point. We'll get an intro at some point. Yeah. um But, you know, this this goes along with ah with our whole...
Trina Kay: our whole philosophy of just do it just do it like don't Don't put it off and don't wait. um So. I have offered to hum or sing our intro. so
Trina Kay: That may happen if i can if if I can come up with like a jingle. for this side of someday you might that might happen But we promise, we promise it will get better from here. But with the first three we felt are very necessary. Right. It's very much the backstory. And if somebody were to stumble upon this.
Trina Kay: ah even three years from now and start from episode one, I think. it would be it would just be helpful to to know, right? yeah Yeah, who are these chicks and why are they babbling on? um I think so. It's a good backstory and it kind of it just solidifies our...
Trina Kay: philosophy and our mottos and like the whole underlying reason we are doing this. Right, facts. fas Okay, so this episode is entitled Wake Up for Something.
Trina Kay: and i'm i'm gonna come on julie everybody's working for the weekend and now you get julie to sing too look at this is gonna be great guys it's just episode three and we got julie Singing on.
Trina Kay: Singing on camera for the podcast. So yeah, wake up. I think. And i you know I hate to call out America as like the problem here, but I think when you look at cultures...
Trina Kay: around the world um and just the different way that people live. I think America is very guilty. Of. creating humans.
Trina Kay: who just live on autopilot, right? we we At some point after enduring whichever war, I'm not really good at it. um We switched over to like.
Trina Kay: creating factory workers like we have people that are just like you go to work You punch the clock. You do a job. You do that same job for 30, 40, 50 years. You retire. And then you literally... And then you kick... kick the bucket probably sooner than you should because right but that's when everybody says oh yeah like that's when we'll we'll do this when we retire We'll do this later. We'll do this and write. when you work 40, 50, 60, whatever years, however many years it is, you know?
Trina Kay: By that point, Then what? Yep. Most of us are sick. Right? Or... I can't move very well anymore. so then how much can you actually do like that mountain that you wanted to hike when you were 30 it's still there it's still there but can you hike it at 70 Right.
Trina Kay: Probably not because instead of... Like. training for that you've been just going to work So like. Back to my little jingle that I sang.
Trina Kay: Right. Like. Are we all just living for the weekend? You're living for Friday. Are you living for vacation? Are you living for retirement? or Like we always say, when things calm down, when your kids get older. Raise your hand or if there's a comment section where.
Trina Kay: Go ahead. I want to see how many of you. are just waiting for when things slow down. After. baseball season, after the kids are grown. after I pay off this.
Trina Kay: Whatever. after it's always after something right we're always looking to the future. That is not guaranteed. It's not promised to us.
Trina Kay: It's... And you know what? We're looking to the future without allowing for the... reality that the future could look very different from the one you're envisioning.
Trina Kay: Something else can change. Something else can happen. And it doesn't have to be something crazy like a diagnosis. it could it could be It could be a job change. It could be...
Trina Kay: anything anything it could literally be anything it could just be that by the time you get there You no longer want the thing. You could change your mind. Imagine that. Imagine that. You could change your mind. And then at that point, you're stuck with the.
Trina Kay: Am I going to see this through just because I've said this is what I wanted? Or am I going to allow myself to change my mind? and want something different. Yeah, so.
Trina Kay: um This episode, I think we're going to talk you know more about... what autopilot has looked like for us. How you can make an ordinary Wednesday feel special. And it's Wednesday.
Trina Kay: It won't be when you hear this, maybe. It could be actually, but it's not Wednesday. It is Wednesday today. um So, how you know, how to to do that and what that looks like. And so yeah. um julie let's talk about Hmm.
Trina Kay: Yeah. We've been talking about. Well, let's talk about your perspective on time and how you've had. you know yeah i've had I've had multiple perspectives on time.
Trina Kay: And. This... I am. I mean, I am prime example of. Uh... how we how easy it is to just slip back into.
Trina Kay: autopilot. Right. Like. I had. I think I touched on this. you know in the last episode but i had my twins that were born at. two and a half months premature.
Trina Kay: in the NICU. um you know Both of them had to be resuscitated. And like, we just never know. So I had that moment of like. Oh man, like we don't know.
Trina Kay: Then I had the... the the first cancer scare that actually brought us back together. So that was another time in my life where I was like, Man. You just got to do it now because you never know.
Trina Kay: And then last year. but I woke up and went to the doctor and I woke up from my procedure and they were like you have cancer and I was like, whoa and I feel, just real quick, I feel at some point we will have to talk about that.
Trina Kay: in more depth just because of the the whole surrealness of that day and Just what actually happens when. but When you're diagnosed, because it was. It was a very weird.
Trina Kay: day and not in the ways that most people would probably think um but like that I think I think this last time I i actually did have cancer right um and went through the whole treatment and everything and I think I had a lot of moments during that where I'm just like, oh my gosh, I keep saying that I'm going to do this later. and Someone told me that I might not have later. Not... ah And I know what the sound is.
Trina Kay: I mean, I think you hear the word cancer and you immediately think I might not get later. Right. Right. That's just, that's the reality. That is the reality. yeah It is. Yes. but.
Trina Kay: Thankfully, I'm okay. And um ah I'm clear. But, you know, it just changes your perspective. and You know, since that moment, I have been very much of like. And no, honestly, I think it like stresses me out a little bit. I was just, you know what? I didn't want to interrupt you. What I was going to say is I think actually.
Trina Kay: You have been more frustrated. Now that chemo is done. more frustrated and agitated in this feeling of What am I going to do now that I get another?
Trina Kay: chance that I know this is it and so I think you've put this pressure on yourself in a way to be like something has to happen and something magical has to happen right now and so um ironically even though we're talking about making every day feel special I will call Julie out on saying that I think she Gets.
Trina Kay: stuck in this idea in a way that hinders her own enjoyment of the day because she feels like she needs to be moving quickly into creating something and to making something bigger. And so um so get so that we can have me so that we can have the freedom to do what we want when we want with who we want Right. So it's good times. Yes. You'll get to see the involvement of that, I feel like, over the course of this podcast. but
Trina Kay: Yes, there's very much a... oh my gosh i have today what am i going to do with today and and i think sometimes julie forgets to actually enjoy the day as opposed to just planning to make it amazing. so mm -hmm facts there is that uh there's a the cliche of find joy in the journey is is ringing through my head right now because there we get that could be an episode. I shall write that down. um
Trina Kay: yes you have to find joy in it I will say that I have gone back to working outside of the home which is the first time I've done in 10 years? I have been a stay -at -home mom for 10, that.
Trina Kay: Sounds. It's insane to me to think about the fact that I've been a stay at home mom for like 10 years, but I have. And I've gone back to working outside of the home. And I was a little concerned that that would feel.
Trina Kay: like going back to autopilot but i have to say i really Make. a point to have fun In it. and to encourage people that I'm working with to also have fun. We have our own goose. If you've seen Julie's goose, we have our own goose at work. His name is Gary.
Trina Kay: I got Carl. We have Gary. Gary is ah gary is a G. um And we we have fun. And I think if you're listening to this and you're thinking, well, that's great because you guys work at home. Well, one, I don't currently work only at home. um and two you have to find a way to enjoy your job and if you are hating going to work every day I encourage you.
Trina Kay: to find a job that you don't loathe. Because you only get. One life. You never know how much time you have left. And to wake up every day and just.
Trina Kay: hate the day ahead of you before it's even started. It's terrible. Oh, it's such an unhealthy way to live. It just is. It's just not.
Trina Kay: I don't know how you... I just don't I don't encourage it like find a way to change it I know that sounds easier said than done but as somebody who has remade my life many times over now.
Trina Kay: I can tell you. It can be done. Yeah, I can be. you just have to want to do it you just have to want to do it You do. So let's talk. well Let's see.
Trina Kay: do do We're looking at our notes here, folks. Let's talk what exactly is for first hour. Let's talk about first hour. and I think we have to. Acknowledge. The coffee in the room. but ah and and what else is happening behind the scenes over here.
Trina Kay: First hour. is so for me it started with. you know like we're talking about how I'm trying to be you know more intentional with what I'm doing. and So I've always...
Trina Kay: ran around and you know in the mornings it was kids and this and that and work and blah blah blah whatever and then I started using coffee as my moment of like, This is my time.
Trina Kay: I'm gonna sit and I'm gonna drink my coffee. And I'm just going to be. or i'm just going to think about You know. what I want to do and and make my plans and all of that.
Trina Kay: um and what what's I'm being intentional for. And First Hour was kind of born from that. wouldn't you say yeah just to take an intentional yeah and it doesn't and yes the name is first hour right but it's not like if To me, it's not like the first hour of your day. It's not like the 5 a .m. club or the miracle morning or any of those things. It's just not that we don't love them. because we do.
Trina Kay: It's just how Elrod happens to hear this. Please know that you're book -like. outstanding changed my life but you don't have to wake up at 5 a .m to change your life no and And again, the first hour for me, it's not the first hour of your day. It's the first hour or even the first 10 minutes that you get for yourself.
Trina Kay: Like most days I get up at, you know. so Six, 630. And the first time I have to sit down and be just. by myself is Bye. 8 30. That's true.
Trina Kay: so you have kids you know yeah so like i so i don't i don't have coffee until all the kids are gone and i literally just sit down and i have my coffee and sometimes it's just me and i just think about what i want to do and what i what's happening and sometimes train us here and we you know she makes my coffee i make her coffee and we start talking about like what what we want to do.
Trina Kay: yeah so that's the that's the idea behind first hour but I think we have to mention that first hour is a lifestyle company yeah so i started out as i was gonna be just a uh i was like oh Let's just.
Trina Kay: let's just make a coffee company. And then the more we start thinking about it. and we decided to change it to a lifestyle brand. um There's going to be a lot of cool things coming down the pipeline later. but We'll talk. That's not.
Trina Kay: for this part That's not for this episode. um know I think we merged kind of, we both had had these ideas. of what we wanted to do and I think that's how it really Yeah.
Trina Kay: Because they both tie together. my, my perspective of, you know, being intentional and waking up for something and came from one place.
Trina Kay: Yours. came from a completely separate, different place. but yet it's still the same. It's still the same path. And we did not want to have two separate companies competing in the same house. I felt like, right. We were like, oh, we both are going to like be doing this thing. We're on this journey.
Trina Kay: of you know helping other people to change their lives. and and creating things from that and we didn't want to be like well I have one and you have one and let's, and it just seems silly. So let's just have a whole lifestyle brand.
Trina Kay: And there's so many cool things that... you know that are going to come from it. and this podcast is one of them this podcast is definitely one of them it's a separate thing but also it all ties together with just this intentional living and we'll call it the media branch.
Trina Kay: The media branch. out I like it. The media branch. um
Trina Kay: Yes. So. So from the ground up, that's what we're doing. We're building an intentional lifestyle brand. yes coffee is just the catalyst, I would say, right?
Trina Kay: I don't even, I won't even say the catalyst. Yes, it's the first thing that we're like. It's like the first physical product. Physical product. However. It's the coffee Tea is probably coming too, to be honest with you, but because a lot of people drink tea and not coffee, but it's just that tangible.
Trina Kay: thing of can whole i'm sitting here drinking my coffee or my tea or whatever and I'm taking the time for myself. Right. Not thing not just.
Trina Kay: going through the motions i will I will say. um Anybody that has known me in real life knows that I've journaled my entire life. So do not be surprised if a journal is the next physical. Physical.
Trina Kay: thing i know you already have a guide but Yeah. So really excited for that. I'm really hyped up. That's like a little sneak peek behind the curtain, but yeah as far as this episode goes, we're not telling you to go quit your job and start. a Start your own company. You can, we will totally support you. Like if you do that, please drop it in the comments and we will be your biggest cheerleaders. um In any way we can. So will the cats.
Trina Kay: they're so They're so dramatic. um But yeah, this is just waking up like take Taking... Taking your life back, yeah basically. Taking stock of your life, yes.
Trina Kay: There's... Turning autopilot off. And life on. And life on. Okay. So getting back to how.
Trina Kay: To live with intention how you're gonna wake up for something We very much don't want to be those people that are like. Just do it. And like. without any guide rails, right? Like, yeah.
Trina Kay: Yeah, because there's enough people online that are going to tell you to just live life to the fullest and give no. context or Because they're not doing it. Because they're not doing it. So we're going to do it with you. Are you ready? today is when you're hearing this. It will be October 1st. It will be.
Trina Kay: First day of the month. And so. We are all going to do. 30 days. of intentional living. We're going to do a, we have a 30 day morning ritual guide.
Trina Kay: Say that five times fast. grounded in purpose. So what you're going to do to get it. You need a free digital download. You're going to go to. Instagram. go to at This side of someday.
Trina Kay: all one word, underscore. And we'll have the link somewhere here, hopefully. Go to Instagram, follow us. and then comment on any of the posts there and just put the word guide and you will get the digital download.
Trina Kay: so that you can do this with us. And we are going to... force Julie out of her comfort zone because I am a journaler and she is not. And every day. we're going to do it. We're going to do it together. There's like a little prompt every day. Like here, let's tell them what day one is. Setting intentions.
Trina Kay: Decide. See, perfect reflection. Who would you be if you gave yourself permission to be anyone? Boom. That's going to be your first day.
Trina Kay: So if you can start on October 1st, that's your first day. But I encourage you, no matter what day you're hearing this or what day you decide you want to start. Just do it. 30 days. 30 days of like really getting real with yourself.
Trina Kay: asking the questions because I think that's the hardest part. is being honest with what we want because our environment, society.
Trina Kay: the people we follow online, they all give us this idea of what we're supposed to want. But when you really get quiet with yourself. Hello. Man, does that change.
Trina Kay: And it'll be really uncomfortable for a lot of you at first. for everybody. I mean it's it's uncomfortable for most people. at first I think it's very uncomfortable to be real about what you want. I will say that I was a stay at home mom for 10 years.
Trina Kay: And I fought that. So hard. and fought the idea of it because I didn't think. Because I had always worked, like had always worked a lot. And so the idea of wanting to be a stay at home mom, I was so uncomfortable with.
Trina Kay: first of all I didn't want to and then once I was staying home I think I felt like I don't know, I had betrayed myself in some way by staying home with my kids. But I will tell you that I value the time that I was home with them and wish I had appreciated it.
Trina Kay: a little bit more than I did. Right. So I think, I think she said, sure. I think. I think sometimes we try to like buck against the system and we don't want to admit that maybe we do want.
Trina Kay: something that's traditional even. I think that's important to note, like you don't have to I just. I think we've just gotten to a place in society where we're just ashamed to admit what we want.
Trina Kay: And that's because there's so many things out there telling us that that's not what we want or we shouldn't want that. right and we should want this and we should want that right there is no shame in wanting to stay home and bake muffins like that's what you want to do I am here for you. Bake the muffin take the muffins. If you are the type of person that's like, I'm never going to bake a day in my life. You should not be made to feel guilty about that either. I just think that we should all.
Trina Kay: be comfortable in our own skin. and comfortable enough to say this is what I want and just to Go for it. I agree.
Trina Kay: Because I've done that several times. I mean, I've changed i've changed directions several times. And that's I think that's part of getting... you know the whole like we're gonna keep circling back to this autopilot thing but I think that's what it comes down to, right? Because we...
Trina Kay: will get into like, oh, I'm, this is my job and this is what I want to do. And I just get up every day and I do it and I do it and I do it and I hate it. And then you have to break it and be like, oh, I'm going to do something else. And that's okay.
Trina Kay: And that's okay. And that's okay. It's okay. So. We you got this. someday is a terrible plan we can yeah yeah Because you might not get someday. You might not get someday.
Trina Kay: someday is not guaranteed but you know what like where is someday you have today. where is a where is sunday like why why is sunday like a like a like a like a place it is it's a destination everybody is trying to get there everybody's trying to get there everybody's trying to get to some there is no plane you cannot book a ticket to someday now You can.
Trina Kay: There's no reservations. There's no call ahead seating. No, there's nothing. But everybody's everybody's going. Everybody's going to someday. Someday. Someday I will. Someday I will.
Trina Kay: But I don't. You got to stop waiting for someday. for the trip for the business For the book you're going to write. she's looking at me you guys um First of all, I did write one. So at least I have one out of me. I feel like that's good. um Yeah. So this is our messy.
Trina Kay: Welcome to the mess. like This is it. We're going to do it. we're gonna do it Poorly sometimes, probably. We're gonna learn and grow. oh yeah yeah yeah and if you again if you've stuck around this far We love you guys. Yes. It will get better. where We appreciate your support. Don't make promises we can't keep. It it will continue to evolve one way or another.
Trina Kay: it'll be funny we can guarantee it'll be funny it will be fun if nothing else What else do you have? I feel like, I mean, this is nice. Like 20 minutes. Like this is good. Somebody can listen on their way to work.
Trina Kay: Yeah. that's it yeah so i mean some of them will be longer but we're just trying to give you guys the backstory so catch you up to where we are right now so that when we're going forward You got it.
Trina Kay: It makes sense. Yes. You can understand the ideas behind it. And also, let's just be honest, I know a lot of you are just nosy and you just want to know. all the deets so there you go you've got all the tea now you know I was going to say deets. You just. You just aged us.
Trina Kay: Is deets not a thing? Do we not say deets? Probably not. I thought it sounded like cool. No. We spilled the tea. No. 411, what's up on the 411?
Trina Kay: there it is we gave it ah we gave it to you we are aged All right. So go to Instagram. Follow us at this. Side of Someday. underscore and comment guide under any post you see there. And we will get you this digital guide grounded in purpose.
Trina Kay: 30 day morning. Ritual. guide. Bam. Bam. bam it'll be in your inbox and you can Follow along with us.
Trina Kay: And yeah, if there's what else you got. Nothing. Just wrap it up. Yeah. Wrapping up our trilogy. Yes. Gut punch. This all ends.
