Peeling Back the Glass Onion: Netflix Ads Tiers, Theatrical Release Strategies, and the Password Crackdown

After last episode’s… special segment on Netflix, we just had to dedicate a whole entire full complete pod to the topic. So we're here with more insights and analysis and TAKES on all things Netflix.

We begin the episode (00:00) by quickly talking about the Oscars, the upcoming telecast, and addressing the grassroots campaign snafu in the Best Actress category.

In the “Multiplying Genre” section (06:36), we provide an overview of the success of Knives Out, Rian Johnson’s multiple-picture deal with Netflix (14:20), and share some of our thoughts on Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (18:24). Later, we take an in-depth look into the new theatrical angle Netflix deployed with the Glass Onion release (35:33).

In “Cross Dysfunctional” (45:36), we take a product and tech deep-dive into the two new functionalities being added to Netflix and discuss why it’s not going well for them so far: 1) the ads subscription tier, and 2) the password crackdown “feature.” (1:02:16)

In “Final Thoughts and Wrapup,” (1:19:08) we address the future of Netflix and predict where the streaming platform might be headed next.

Hot takes aplenty!

TUDUM! Am I right?
