Speaker: This is a Muck Stain Productions Podcast.
Speaker: Hello, Pokefans and trainers, and welcome to Unknown Radio, your Mugstain Productions Pokemon talk show, where we take a peek at every single Pokemon in the national decks. I'm Claudia, and I'm here with my co -host and longtime buddy, Catherine.
Speaker: Hello, I bring the pizzazz. What's Claudia brings us? The facts. I still love her so much. Oh, I can say it starts. All I got. All right, let's dig right into it. We're on number five. This is already our fifth episode, which is super exciting. And we're going to be looking at Charmeleon. Yes, we are.
Speaker: Cha -cha -cha -Charmelian! Cha -cha -cha! Cha -cha -cha -cha! Do you know what Charmelian's tagline is? If it's anything like the last evolution we did, I don't know, lizard Pokémon. They switched it up this time. This is Charmelian the Flame Pokémon. Okay, okay. You know, just if you didn't know he was a fire type.
Speaker: He is the flame Pokemon. Oh, just look at him. He just screams fire. And his name is based again off charcoal. And this time, Chameleon. Nice, nice. But does he change colour? No, the shiny is a different colour. Like we discussed last week, he went from that really cute orange colour to this like very dark orange, almost red. Yeah.
Speaker: colour, but the shiny version again is a yellow. Love it. I'll collect all the shinies. Just catering to you, they're all yellow. Told you they're my favourite.
Speaker: And this little guy is also based off the mythical fire salamander that we talked about last time. And he is, he's grown a little bit. He's not quite taco sized anymore. He is three foot seven inches and now weighs a whopping 41 .9 pounds. So he has over doubled his weight. Just one second while I convert for our European listeners. 41 .9.
Speaker: 41 .9. That's 19 kilograms. That's pretty sizable. So that's quite a lot of weight to bulk up and he only gained a foot. Yeah. So he must be stacked. Oh, he's pretty beefy. Yeah. So what does Pokémon look like? The thing with Charmeleon is he looks angry and has an unnecessary point on his head. But apart from that, it looks similar to Charmin.
Speaker: But I never understood what's with the weird point on his head, like his home. So what I got about his physiology
Speaker: It's not a horn, but they describe it as a horn -like protrusion. Love that word protrusion, don't they? They also talked about how Bulbasaur had ear -like protrusions. This is a horn -like protrusion on the back of its head, similar to that of an ornithopod, which I believe is a type of dinosaur.
Speaker: I mean he does have a bit, he does look more dinosaur -y because that is that dinosaur with a massive thing on his head.
Speaker: Yeah, yeah, it's based off of that whole kind of family of dinosaurs, which he does look a lot more reptilian. Charmander was more kind of like cute and cuddly, like a little teddy bear. This is definitely dinosaur to me, like dinosaur dragon, scary. I've just googled that type of dinosaur and that's actually what chickens have evolved from. Oh, so Charmander is also the chicken of the volcano.
Speaker: There we go! We were right! We've come full circle with that. So yeah, this guy looks like an awkward teenager, like an angry teenager stage. Yeah, for sure. Yeah, which we didn't really get that vibe from Ivosaur, but this stage we definitely do. And he just looks like he's gonna beat you up at any given moment.
Speaker: And his lifespan is seven to 15 years, which is exactly the stage for awkward teenage hood.
Speaker: Well, yeah. It's starting a bit young, but I don't know, the kids seem to be getting older much younger these days. Don't get me started on the attitude. So speaking of attitude, the Charmeleon is said to be much more aggressive than Charmander. It is also believed to have a vicious nature and will constantly seek out opponents. Strong opponents excite this Pokemon.
Speaker: causing it to sprout bluish white flames that torch its surroundings. Oh, like the really hot flames. Mm -hmm. See, that's pretty cool. So he just goes around trying to find people to fight him.
Speaker: Yeah. Well, that's what they've always said, isn't it? When you, like, the Charmander, Charmeleon and Charizard are the hardest ones to train. When you do train them, they're the bottom. Right. So this is definitely like the challenging part. Like Charmander fairly easy. Yeah. And then it evolves into this. So you've really got to not evolve it too early, I reckon.
Speaker: No, I reckon you've got to really try and keep a cap on it. The little bit I have about training one, it says that the stage is linked to the human teenage years, moody and reckless. For starting trainers, reigning in disobedient Charmeleon can be extremely challenging, as well as potentially dangerous if not handled well.
Speaker: Yeah, so that just backs up our point of it is actually the awkward teenager year. And then you can just imagine this with a trainer that can't really wrangle it so much, which is interesting because
Speaker: When you play the games, or you think about Pokemon, it's like, oh yeah, I catch a Pokemon and then I can battle with it and I can train it up. But there is like an element of like, these are living things. Yeah, I think more so in the newer games, they kind of have more of a focus on the personality of the Pokemon, but definitely the original ones.
Speaker: You just threw it out. Yeah, just hoped for the best. And it did the job. So like, this is quite indicative of like, if you train up a Pokémon too much, you have to have a certain amount of gym badges to be able to have them listen to you all the time. Yeah. I think that's what you really learn when you play the first one, though. What? Having not trained them up so much? Yeah. Yeah. You train them up too quick.
Speaker: Yeah, and you just starting out the game, you're like, Oh, I just want to get through the game real quick. Send me your level 40 right on. Yeah. And they just do not listen to you. So it's.
Speaker: Good to have as like a tank, but you can't really effectively use it. Can't use it all really, yeah. Adding on to it being potentially dangerous. An enraged Charmeleon often take out their anger on the environment and cause forest fires. They're just misunderstood, aren't they? So they just get angry and they set fire to a forest and you go, they're just a misunderstood guy.
Speaker: Yeah, they're like teenagers. They're just misunderstood. Just a little bit of extra, extra love, you know? Purposely add to deforestation. You know what? Good thing we've got mega Venusaur. Yeah, that absolute legend. So he's described as a very ruthless, pitiless and zealous fighter that uses its claws. So he fights dirty? Yeah, he's just scrappy with them hands. Fair play to him.
Speaker: He's the awkward teen, he's the middle child. He's the awkward teenager. Yeah. You know, he's got to get it done, isn't he? And I suppose it's a lot more like
Speaker: fulfilling to smack something down physically than just resort to using flamethrower all the time. I occasionally do like to just have a, you know, when I'm battling, I'm like, you know what? No, I'm not gonna use the special moves. I'm gonna use all out power. And maybe for this guy, it's a good idea if he is so moody, because you can get his aggression out so he's not causing some forest fires. Just let him beat on a Beedrill.
Speaker: This is what I'm saying. He's misunderstood. You've got to learn to control his emotions. Yeah. So even though they're not very ideal for a starting trainer, with proper care and treatment, a trainer can earn a child millions respect and eventually it's obedience as well. There you go. See, this is what I like about them is you have to, you have to earn it. They don't just willy -nilly respect you. Right. And not like, we didn't see any of this with Ivosaur.
Speaker: So this guy, you know, you've really got to put the work in in order to evolve it and really get that, you know, number one Pokemon. You've really got to have the bond with it. Like you don't have to with the others with Bulbasaur and that.
Speaker: But even with Charmander, it said they needed to respect you. Yeah, so I quite like this line for that. It's definitely not the Pokémon for the trainer that just wants to hang out and have a good time. You have to really work with these guys and train them up and be more vigilant than I feel like.
Speaker: But that goes back to what we talked about when you said about how there was an easy mode, a hard mode. This is really proving that this is the hard mode because of the personality of the Pokémon. I wish they added that more into the games so you really did have that like hard mode. I mean yeah but when it came out
Speaker: you know, it was things were limited. It wasn't even in colour. They can only put a certain amount of Pokemon in because that was all the game allowed. Do you remember when it first came out in colour and it was almost so excited? When was that Pokemon yellow that it came out? Yeah, I had Pokemon yellow. Best game. Red.
Speaker: Exactly the same two I have. Yeah, so. Because we are one, Claude, we are one. Yeah. But this game was like, getting a charming, because I don't know about you, but the first time I played Pokémon Red, I didn't really know.
Speaker: many of the Pokémon I hadn't really watched the anime yet. I just played the game because it was like the game to have. And obviously I started with Charmander because it's the cutest and then when it evolved, like I had no idea that a Charmander evolved into a Charmeleon. Yeah, I was quite upset because I was like, you're not that cute. When my cute Charmander go? I knew that it was going to evolve into Charizard because that's the art on the box. Yeah.
Speaker: And I was so excited when I got the Charmeleon cause I was like, Oh, he's gonna, he's gonna evolve. So I want to go back to that. There isn't like a Pokemon game that comes out that you literally have no idea what's going to happen. No. They've all been done. Yeah. And Google exists. Yeah.
Speaker: I think it'd be good if they remade, I mean I know like Let's Go Even, Let's Go Pikachu are like the remakes of the originals. But I think if they've proper remade them and you have to pick Squirtle, Charmander or Bulbasaur. Just and you can only get one. Yeah.
Speaker: you have to like trade with your mates. And it's not as easy because let's go easy is easy. Yeah, you just get much easier than what we have to do. Mm hmm. Because this is what I keep telling Seb, I'm not gonna do your Pokemon game for you. You've got to get through it yourself, mate. You got to learn and don't Google. Yeah, you can't follow walkthrough. You got to really experience it. Yeah, we didn't have Google. It's just sit for hours.
Speaker: and not understand anything that's going on in the game. Then have to double back on yourself. Like you'd like to spend four hours walking to a place and you'd be like, ah, fuck. You have to walk all the way back. Yeah. You shouldn't have a bike. Or running shoes. Yeah, exactly.
Speaker: So we will move on to our little question section for our little boy Charmeleon. So if you were just hanging out in the hot, craggy mountains and you came across a Charmeleon, what would you do? I'll take a photo and then I'm just going to leave it alone. I don't think I'd even try and tame this one. He'd probably kill you. Yeah. Just because he could. Yeah. I'm going to take a photo.
Speaker: You know, I've played Pokemon Snap enough. I love that game. Yeah, yeah. You played some Pokemon Snap, you take a picture and then run. You fox troughs. Really troughs, Oscar, don't you? Yeah. Especially because this thing seeks out opponents. So I feel like if it sees you, it's just going to chase you down because then the more that you run, the more of a challenge he's going to think it is. I'll play dead. I'll act like I've just seen a bear. I hit him afraid to admit it. This one's got me.
Speaker: He's too scary. Just lay face down on the ground and pretend you're dead. Yep. You know what? If it works, it works. I'm too unfit to run that fast from a chameleon. I'd rather jump into the volcano and die than have this thing kill me.
Speaker: I'll play Dead and hope for the best. He's like a slasher. I'm hoping Venusaur comes to save me. Oh, good old mega Venusaur. Oh, the drink. Or the one with the... It looks like a mushroom that you can hide. Oh, he's so cute. See, we've really got into Venusaur.
Speaker: We did, we did. And we hated him when we started. So, other than battling, what function do you think or job or use do you think a Charmeleon would have? I reckon he'd be good at hard labour. Oh, like putting that energy into something that's not just killing people? Yeah, I reckon he'd be good at welding. I think down in the mines once again. We're just going to put the ball down the mines.
Speaker: But do you know what I mean? Like, I feel like he needs a very hands -on job, but not woodwork because that's quite risky. Yeah, with his fire tail and all. Yeah, but I could see him like being a welder or like some form of engineer. Just with a little hard hat on. Yeah. Shove him on a building site. He'd be carrying your bricks around for you. He definitely needs something to tire him out, but also a little bit of competition. So yeah, if it was like a building site or something where there was other Pokemon he had to compete with,
Speaker: Yeah, I feel bad about saying this. Okay, so I'm not presidenting that I would do this or that it should be done. But you could definitely have like a chameleon boxing ring. Oh, 1000%. I didn't want to say it though. I was always just gonna yeah.
Speaker: Hit him against ice and fury. Let's go. Yeah, like Charmeleon boxing. They're just angry and they're ruthless and pitiless. They would just do it to the death, wouldn't they? Yeah, that would be a bit ethically wrong. She took the pull them out. Yeah. I reckon we should stick with, you know, manual labour jobs. Let them burn off their energy. Yeah, we'll leave the Charmeleon fighting rings to Team Rocket. Seems like something they would do.
Speaker: So what do you think he eats? Anything. Just absolutely anything. Yeah, you're gonna tell me that something's gonna come near and it's gonna try and fight him. Now you're just gonna eat it, aren't you? You know what, you're not wrong. They're kind of like, what would be like an op - like a hyena. Yeah, I think now it's more dinosaur like. I'm swaying more towards the carnivore side as well. Yeah, definitely velociraptor -ish.
Speaker: They would go after a Mareep or like a, a deerling. Oh, definitely a Wooloo. He would chomp down on a Wooloo. Yeah. Or like a milk tank. Just anything really. And once again, a Rattata. Just please get rid of Rattatas. He could pick that thing up and eat it whole. Yeah. A hundred percent. Unraticate. Oh, yeah.
Speaker: I don't like them, they're creepy. Right, they are. It would definitely be good pest control, wouldn't it? It would actually. I thought I was just thinking. Yeah, that's another function. Just pop them down. It might go to the case of, you know, when you get a cat that's too good at the pest control that... Has to go live on a farm.
Speaker: Yeah, but then they start killing things they shouldn't kill. I feel like you get that way with Charmeleon. If there's not enough ratatas to get, he'd go after a Wooloo. Yeah, I don't think you could keep it on your farm, because I reckon it would end up eating your sheep. Yeah, and you know that a farmer's not going to be a good enough trainer for this guy.
Speaker: Well, I don't know. It depends on the farmer, really. It depends on the farmer, but I kind of see what you mean. I feel like the farmer's better. He's got more things to do and he's a busy. Yeah, you should get a Growlithe instead. Yeah. So could we eat a Charmeleon? We probably could, but would we want to? Could we kill it?
Speaker: no yeah i mean from far away maybe with the bow and arrow or just just get a rifle and shoot the thing see this is where this this is how i could tell you from america i don't even think about getting a gun bow and arrow you want ak47 from walmart
Speaker: I was thinking about like Jurassic Park. Oh, yeah, okay, fair enough. I just made a horrible poem about America. I mean, you're definitely not wrong. You're definitely not wrong. But yeah, I don't think he and he doesn't look edible to me. No. Like, I get that, you know, alligators taste really good. But this kind of gives me more like Komodo Dragon. Hold up.
Speaker: You've eaten an alligator. Yeah, I live in Florida. Is it nice? It's like fishy chicken in a good way. I don't think I could get on board with that. It's really good. It tastes and feels like chicken, but it has that like freshness. Like if you eat cod. Oh, okay. So this is why we need somebody to sponsor us so I could fly to Florida. Why should I eat alligator? Some gator nugs. Gator nugs.
Speaker: I also really want to go to Walnut, Mart. Walnut? Walnut. They don't sell Gator at Walmart, but they do sell AK47s. Yeah, exactly. So, you know, you take some, you leave some. But no, no to eat in Charminian for me. I feel like he would probably taste like Gator taste, but he'd be too tough. I don't think he's edible. I don't look at him and think edible. No, no, me neither.
Speaker: So if you were on this nice little craggy mountain, and you've seen the volcano, and you're tired, and you go into a nice random bar on the side of a volcano, and there was a Charmeleon just in there enjoying, what would a Charmeleon drink? Maybe a bourbon? Yeah.
Speaker: or a fireball. Oh, yeah, he's drinking fireball whiskey. And he turns around and looks at you. And you know, he's going to engage you in a fight because that's what he loves to do. Do you think you stand a chance? Absolutely not. No. I'll hold my hands up for this one. Despite his size.
Speaker: And I generally think I could beat most small things up. I think this one would get me. There's just something about him. I'd like to give it a go. I reckon get enough beers in me. I'd give it a go. Give it a solid try. Yeah. But sober, absolutely no chance.
Speaker: It'll be like, uh, what's that thing? World star wrestling going on is just when people randomly just beat each other up in the street. That sounds horrific. Yeah. That's what it would look like. He'd be wailing on you. You'd be trying to wail at him. I feel like, again, he's a reptile and he has that like, he's probably fireproof at this point. So he has that really thick skin. Like what could you do to...
Speaker: I reckon I could maybe knife him, but... Maybe. I think he would win. I can't say I could beat a charming alien. And he loves fighting. The more you beat on him, the more he'll find it enjoyable. Yeah, and if he's working me on my building site, he probably does cocaine at the weekend, so...
Speaker: So on that note, we bid farewell to our moody teenage cocaine snorting giant. Do you like him more or less? I like him more, he's scrappy. Yeah, I didn't really have any like real opinions about Charmeleon until I was looking up all of the stuff.
Speaker: Yeah, he has a little personality now. Yeah, he's like a he's like a shark. He's misunderstood. Yeah. And would I want one? Probably not. But can I appreciate it? Yeah. It'd be like if I've nurtured this Charmander for so long, it turns into Charmeleon. I wouldn't want it in the house anymore. But I'd have to keep it because I've grown attached to it.
Speaker: Right, it's like when you have a kid that turns into a turd. Exactly that. Like moody teenage stage, they're just shouting at you for no reason, they're breaking things, you know, that horrible, was it like 13 year olds? I think we really peaked at 15. Okay, like that horrible stage and you know, you know, he's out fighting with his friends and
Speaker: underage drinking and being a general nuisance to society. But you still love him. You want to punch him in the face. But only because you've raised him.
Speaker: Right. From youth, you know? And he'll call you all names under the sun. Still warm your feet in the winter. That's a perfect thing. That is the perfect way to leave Charmeleon. I agree. And next week we are going to be evolving him into the number one rated Kanto Pokemon. Probably the number one of all time. Buzzing.
Speaker: Uh, so we will see you guys next week. Thank you for listening and, uh, bye -bye Butterfree. Bye -bye Butterfree. That's, you thought of that like an hour ago. Yeah. Oh, nice one. Anyway, alright, ciao for now. Brilliant.
