Ada's backstory begins to get fleshed out when we meet someone from her past during the case.  John springs into heroic savior mode when Mary's life is threatened by the Monster of the Week - a spider creature that crawls into people's dreams and traps them in their deepest traumas while it feeds. Nothing says Supernatural like trauma.
