Technical Difficulties and Setup

00:00:00
Speaker
OK, let's get this podcast off the ground. I just need to open up Reaper. OK, I've got Reaper open and all right. Let's set up a file just waiting for the Zoom link to come in from Josh. And oh, my God, what's happening to my hand? It feels all all weird and slimy and jellyfish like. Oh, dear.
00:00:27
Speaker
I think Alex Jones might be right, I think, because I had my booster the other day. I think the booster is rewriting my DNA and turning me into a jellyfish, and this is astounding, because I've had the Sinofac.
00:00:43
Speaker
Vaccine. And that's not an mRNA vaccine, that's a viral load vaccine. Alex Jones is talking about the idea that vaccines turn you into jellyfish because it rewrites your DNA. But if it turns out the viral load vaccines do that as well... Oh, I've got to warn Josh, I've got to... Oh, my vocal chords are clarifying. I'm losing the ability to... blub, blub, blub, blub, blub...
00:01:14
Speaker
No. No. No. Hey! It's the podcast's guide to the conspiracy!

Delays and Filler Content

00:01:35
Speaker
Hello, you're listening to the podcaster's guide to the conspiracy. Here in Auckland, New Zealand, I am Josh Addison, and that's all you're getting right at the moment. The good Dr. Denteth has had their third COVID booster shot just yesterday, and apparently is feeling somewhat the worse for it. I've had my booster shot.
00:01:57
Speaker
and was lucky enough to just get away with nothing worse than a sore arm for a couple of days. My wife's arm got all swollen at the injection site, which was a bit weird, but Emma's feeling down in the dumps.
00:02:10
Speaker
And fair enough, so we're not going to have any episode for you this week. So it's false to me to come up with a little bit of filler just so we've got something to post, I guess. So I thought perhaps what I could do is just give you a quick sneak preview of what will be in the episode whenever we're both in a condition to sit down and record one.

Upcoming Episode Preview

00:02:33
Speaker
The next episode is going to be a Conspiracy Theory Masterpiece Theatre episode. We're going to be discussing the paper Dangerous Machinery. Conspiracy Theorist is a Transpersonal Strategy of Exclusion by Jina Hosting and Martin Orr. Now, while I don't think I've spoken to Jina and Martin myself, they have been on the podcast a bunch of times. Eames had numerous interviews with them. So if you've been listening for a while, you'll be familiar with them, although I don't think we've ever actually looked at a piece of their work.
00:03:01
Speaker
So it'll be interesting. I've had a go through it. I found it kind of hard going, to be honest, because it's not a philosophy paper. And it's a lot more empirical than I'm used to, basically. There's sort of a lot of sort of survey of literature and media looking at how people use the term conspiracy theory. So interesting nonetheless. So we'll be going through that.
00:03:30
Speaker
I guess this time next week. We also plan to talk about the Trojan Horse Affair podcast.

Introduction to the Trojan Horse Affair

00:03:41
Speaker
It's probably going to be the content of our next bonus episode, but maybe I can talk a little bit about it now just so you can get some advance warning. So if you haven't heard of it, the Trojan Horse Affair is the latest podcast from the Serial People. It is narrated by
00:03:59
Speaker
the guy who did the Estown podcast, whose voice is slightly less annoying now, which is nice. I don't know if you've listened to Estown, which is quite a good little story, but the guy had this, his speaking voice, he used to have this weird little sort of catch in the end, and he always sounded like he was about to burst into tears. He's managed to get rid of that, so that's nice. But it was actually kicked off by
00:04:29
Speaker
Another guy, a British Muslim from Birmingham, who had an interest in the story that affected British Muslims in Birmingham from a few years ago. And he was originally a doctor, but then decided to retrain as a journalist and proposed this as a
00:04:48
Speaker
as a story. From the sounds of things, it was relatively big news in Britain when it came about in the early 2010s. It seemed to be around 2012 up to 2014 or something. It didn't really make the news here in New Zealand that I recall.
00:05:07
Speaker
The story itself, if you're not familiar with it, is basically that an anonymous letter was leaked to people, I think it was the Birmingham City Council, in England that
00:05:26
Speaker
was basically, was supposedly correspondence between conspirators who were enacting this plan to Islamify Britain's schools, or at least some of them.
00:05:39
Speaker
And this letter, among other things, was jumped on by Michael Gove, who was the Secretary of Education at the time, to enact a whole bunch of sort of inquiries into what was going on in certain schools in places like Birmingham, which I understand has quite a high Muslim population. And people were suspended from teaching, lost their jobs. At least one person was banned from ever teaching again.

Conspiracy Comparisons

00:06:05
Speaker
Lives are affected and policies were put in place that are still, whose effects are still felt to this day. And the interesting thing about it though is, and again I'm not telling you anything you won't know if you haven't heard of the story before, is that the letter, everyone agrees that the letter itself is probably fake. It's probably a hoax. But nevertheless it was enough to get people concerned that maybe stuff was happening and so they embarked upon this
00:06:35
Speaker
this big inquiry. Now, the very first thing I thought of when I heard that was, oh, so it's like the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, a document which
00:06:47
Speaker
everybody agrees isn't actually authentic, but who some people say, well, okay, the document itself may be fake, but it's spiritually true. While this actual document might not be an actual recording of events, events like this, we know they actually happen and was therefore still used as an excuse.
00:07:09
Speaker
for a couple of centuries of anti-Semitism, and this seemed to be the same sort of thing. It's okay, we've got this letter talking about the Islamification of our society. Now, the letters are hoax, but we're pretty sure stuff like this might be going on, so let's have a look at it. And strangely, the Protocols of the Elders of Zion Similarity gets a brief mention right near the end.
00:07:33
Speaker
But so this podcast essentially starts with them trying to figure out who wrote the letter, in the hope that maybe if they could find out the exact origins of the letter, they might be able to pour a bit of cold water onto the sort of social stigma that's still around today.

Trojan Horse Affair Review

00:07:51
Speaker
And it goes in a few different directions. I'll say right now, I think it started
00:07:56
Speaker
started stronger than it finished to the extent that I think the final episode is pretty much a waste of time and you could listen to the first seven and you'd know everything you needed to know but anyway. So we'll look into that in a bit more detail and go through exactly what happens and what we thought of it because of course for our interest it's a highly conspiratorial story. It's
00:08:21
Speaker
It starts with a later religion conspiracy. You'll find as we go through there are sort of conspiracies and counter conspiracies.
00:08:29
Speaker
and nobody quite seems to know what's going on in a lot of cases. So basically, in between this week and next, I can certainly recommend you listen to the podcast, The Trojan Horse of Fear. Again, if you're short on time, you could skip the final episode, episode eight, because I'll spoil it right now. Nothing happens in that episode, even though they hint that something might.
00:08:55
Speaker
And yes, so then you'll be prepared to listen to us talk about it next week, which of course will probably be, I don't know, maybe when Em and I actually discuss it, we might find we have a full episode's worth of things to say about it, and we'll do a full episode about it like we did.
00:09:10
Speaker
about that Bed of Lies podcast, which incidentally also has a second season, which I started listening to and just found it too depressing,

Other Podcast Mentions

00:09:18
Speaker
really. The second season of Bed of Lies is all about how a bunch of haemophiliacs contracted AIDS in the... I've forgotten now because it's been a while since I listened to it, early 90s, I think. Might have been 80s, 80s or 90s, sometime around then.
00:09:32
Speaker
basically due to a tainted batch of the that factor 9 or whatever it is that's given to hemophiliaxis treatment and it goes into the fact that how basically a whole bunch of people got AIDS at a time when there was massive social stigma around AIDS and
00:09:53
Speaker
And who knew that this batch was tainted, whether or not people knew, and how often, whether people knew that the batch, that it was tainted and didn't care and sold it anyway, knowing that people were going to get ate. So there's a lot of stuff about that. And it was all just a little bit bleak, to be honest. So I only listened a couple of episodes in. But anyway.
00:10:15
Speaker
So, like I say, we might end up devoting an entire episode to the Trojan Horse of Fear, but I think at the moment there's really just enough for a smaller chat and a bonus

Call to Action for Patrons

00:10:26
Speaker
episode. So if you want to hear us shut about this podcast, your best bet of being able to do so is to become one of our patrons. And if you already are, well, that's good. If you're not, you can just go to betrayun.com and search for the podcaster's guide to the conspiracy, the same thing I say every week.
00:10:41
Speaker
Um, and if, if you don't want to be a patron, uh, you can just go and listen to the podcast, the Trojan horse, a fear podcast anyway, and form your own opinions. They'll probably be similar to ours, I'd say. So I think that's enough.
00:10:55
Speaker
space and enough time filler to justify chucking this up for this week just so we've got something to tide you over until Emma's feeling better hopefully this time next week I won't have contracted anything or fallen over and broken anything like I almost did a couple of weeks ago and we'll be able to deliver a proper episode to you but until then there's really nothing for it but for me to simply say goodbye

Humorous Outro

00:11:21
Speaker
Oh, forcing vocal chords to come back into solidification. Using my mental powers to resurrect myself from my jellyfish that I have become a god. A genetically superior jellyfish god. Josh! Josh! Oh, he's hung up. Well, that's annoying. But yes, that's the podcast. Oh well. Better luck next week.
