Good morning. Welcome to the We Are Driven podcast episode 139. My name is Arun Kumar and I am the driver. This is a quick hit and I'm going to tell you a quick story. I was talking with one of the guys I work with recently about a car that he wants.

Speaker
just the car that is top of mind that he currently does not own, but that he would like to own as soon as possible. And this car is a Corvette C8, not a special one necessarily, just any Corvette C8.

And I know this guy, I know roughly how much money he makes, And I thought to myself, well, if I did the math, I'm pretty sure he could afford it right now. And I told him this, I said, you know, couldn't, couldn't you go out and buy a CA right now? And he said, well, yeah, I guess I could, you know, I guess I could.

And, and so I thought to myself, you know, that really is a catalyst for change in one's life and it is the epitome of the word driven. There was a time back in the middle of 2021 when I hate was basically daily driving either my 1999 Ford F two 50 or my 2001 BMW three 30 CI race car. Those were the only cars I had.

Neither was really all that good at, at being a daily driver and given the status that my life was emerging into. and And what I mean by that really is, you know, I was a business owner. I was trying to sell consulting services door to door and having to pull up in a specific car. Every time I was having a difficult time making the right impression on people with either of these cars. And I really wanted and I have always really wanted an E9X BMW M3, 2008 to 2013 BMW M3 with the four liter V8 S65 engine. I believe it's one of the best sounding engines ever made. And I think plenty thousands of people agree with me on that.

And there was one day I was driving home with my wife from some errands and we pulled up at a light next to one and we pulled away from the light. And I heard that it had some sort of exhaust on it that made it quite loud. And so I rolled down the window and I listened to it go to the top of first shift into second, not quick, not, not sending it just accelerating at a pretty leisurely pace, but whoever was driving was revving it out just a little bit. And I really enjoyed the sound and I thought, Oh man, you know, I really, really want one of these cars.

My wife turned to me, and this is one of many times she's done something like this in our relationship. She turned to me and she said, well, why don't you buy it? I thought to myself, Oh shit. Could I buy it? I don't think I can buy it. Well, maybe I could buy it. Maybe I could get an E 90 M three. So I put it out into the universe. I said, you know, that's exactly what I'm looking for. I'm looking for sub $30,000 higher mileage E nine X M three.

And what do you know, just a handful of days later, I found one is the same color as the one in the picture that I had posted.
00:04:11
Speaker
And then it came time to figuring out how to afford it. So I found you can get classic car loans. And because the 2009 M3 that I found was over 10 years old at the time, I needed to get a classic car loan. So I went out and I borrowed $18,700 and I put $3,000 down and I bought a 2009 M3 for $21,700.
00:04:41
Speaker
And I took out a two-year loan. I was paying $823.99, I believe it was, every month. And at the time I was making $4,000 a month. Within three months I was making $15,000 a month. And I do not believe that this is an accident.
00:05:08
Speaker
I truly believe that that car is what motivated me to reach the next level in my business. So let's go back to the Corvette C8 guy. I bet he can afford it. And I told him, if you go out and buy this car now, you watch what will happen to you. You will step up and become a better version of yourself who earns that fucking car.
00:05:42
Speaker
He listens to some of these podcasts, so we'll see if he takes me up on it.
00:05:49
Speaker
But remember that if you're sitting there thinking about a car that you want, that you're putting up a barrier to say you can't afford it for whatever reason, just go check, go do the math. See if you can make it work. And if you are truly driven, you will make it work and you will exceed all of your current goals driven by the car that you want.
00:06:20
Speaker
And then you'll find you get to keep doing it over and over and over again. And I hope to see you someday pull up next to me in your seven, eight, nine figure car. And we can raise from the lights. But until then, we both need to go out and keep working, keep getting after it, keep achieving our goals and stay driven.
