Speaker: Hello everyone, welcome back to another amazing episode of the Certified Jarvis podcast. I am Stephen Jarvis and with me, as always, is the very lovely, talented wifey. Well, more talented than I am. and her name is... There we go. there well Well, she said the last name too, so no one can say that, you know, she just married me for, you know, being married.

Speaker: Okay, Alyssa, what are we talking about today?

Speaker: We are talking about Mario Kart. Oh, God. So how many friendships do you think Mario Kart has destroyed?

Speaker: Well, I mean, oh my years if you watch the Vanoss crew and and ah on YouTube playing Mario Kart, I think it ruined Brock. AKA Moo. I think that's why he retired.

Speaker: He just got so sick of Nogla and Brian just dicking on him all the time that was just like, I'm done.

Speaker: That, and I think that's why Anthony stopped playing because fucking he was having nervous breakdowns every fucking time. but Granted, I don't blame them. Playing against Nogla and Brian would be like the worst. Like, no, no, I'd rather get kicked in the nuts by that fucking robot that's in Jackass last of a movie or whatever.

Speaker: ah um So when when was the first time that you ever played Mario Kart?

Speaker: And what system? If you can remember. i think it was maybe the Switch. I played it on i played Mario Kart 64. Because let's be honest. that Nintendo 64, Mario Kart 64. Diddy Kong Racing was also something I played back then. but um I don't know. I think I played more Mario Kart once the Switch came out.

Speaker: Just because... Seemed more fun then. Except for when you play against a computer and the computer just decides to get blue shells all the fucking time. oh Cheating ass.

Speaker: I don't know. I mean, the computer does always seem to do better. But you gotta be better than the computer. And I don't know about you, but I think I'm a fucking beast at the game.

Speaker: But I also... started to play it like, don't know, was probably somewhere around eight years old, give or take the very first time that I played it and I played it on the OG and 64. Yeah.

Speaker: And I think that will forever be the best version in my opinion.

Speaker: I mean, yeah. it's It's better than Mario Kart World right now. but I think the Vanoss crew has only played like a few episodes of that one. They changed it so much with Mario Kart World.

Speaker: It's not even really Mario Kart. It's not, right. it's it It's like Mario Kart trying to be like um the crew, where you can literally like go to the next race. It's trying to make it more of an open world.

Speaker: Yeah. yeah type thing. And and i don't I don't think it works. I don't think that's Mario Kart. No. Even if I had a Switch 2, I'd probably stick with the one that came out on the first Switch because it just...

Speaker: Mario Kart 8 I feel like was the zenith of Mario Kart. And now that they did the Tour one, or World, or whatever it's called, it just...

Speaker: it I don't know. i'm I'm sure there's people out there that are like, oh, well, you know, he's shitting on it. Of course I am. I mean, i would you watch content creators play that fucking game and like none of them like it anymore.

Speaker: and And that's the sad thing with, I think even gaming in general is a gaming in general is kind of starting to go down. Right. yeah So,

Speaker: I know this is a question that all of our viewers are going to want to know.

Speaker: You ready for it? Sure. Who usually wins between the two of us?

Speaker: don't know. We've never played fucking Mario Kart together. Yeah, we don have. When we had the Switch, we played together. And I kicked your ass every time. Never played it once together.

Speaker: Yes, we did. No. i would I'd be willing to take a lie detector test on that one, and I would probably pass. we we We definitely did.

Speaker: Because that switch would have been in pieces. I don't believe that one bit. Yeah, you you blocked it out of your memory because i creamed your ass.

Speaker: I would remember playing against you because you are one of those people that would piss me off enough to where I'd break the fucking switch. but but and um

Speaker: So in the series, I know we kind of already touched on this. What ah version of Mario Kart was your absolute favorite?

Speaker: I think Deluxe or Mario Kart 8. So the late the one before this clusterfuck of a one.

Speaker: Just because, I mean, once they introduce that, you know, you could... um create a blue shell only, like, where every pickup you get is a blue shell. Like, that that would, ugh, that is fucking cancer right there.

Speaker: Fucking Nintendo loves to just, ugh.

Speaker: i You know, and the sad thing is, folks, like, I wanted to do one where it was games that make us rage. And I felt like I could have filled, like, three hours of that.

Speaker: I don't know that

Speaker: Mario Kart is not a raging game. I think it very much can be. oh Especially once you get multiples of your friends playing against you. The sad thing is none of our friends, well, I think Dalton and Shai own a Switch.

Speaker: But other than that, I don't know who else would.

Speaker: ah

Speaker: So I know you mentioned that you thought Mario Kart 8 was the best version.

Speaker: Do you think that's because it's the newest or do you just...

Speaker: I think it... I think it added a lot of cool stuff. Like, I mean, it it added a lot of cool characters. um Some of the other Mario Karts would, like, focus mainly just on, like, Bowser. Excuse me. Bowser. The core characters. Yeah. Like, to M64 time. Where, like, I felt like Mario Kart 8 kind of did, like, I don't know if you ever remember this game, but Super Smash Brothers. Mm-hmm. where it incorporated like a lot like Star Fox, um

Speaker: Banjo-Kazooie. I'm probably going to get hate mail for that one. um And, you know, I think that's why I liked Mario Kart 8, because it did bring a lot of those characters in. And I'm sure World has the same thing. it's just 8, I feel like, is going to be considered the last great one until they make Mario Kart 9.

Speaker: And Mario Kart 9, they better go back to the original formula because World tried to jump the shark. And it's it you you don't see a lot of content creators playing that game as much anymore. like I think Bryce still plays it. But other than that, like the Vanoss crew doesn't.

Speaker: For me, i i do like... the newer graphics of the newer

Speaker: of the newer games. But I think my heart still really loves the N64 version. And I think it's just purely because that's the one that I grew up with.

Speaker: Nostalgia. And they, they changed so many of the tracks, but kept the same name, the tracks. So like prime example, Rainbow Road.

Speaker: I loved that one on the m sixty four I didn't care so much for it in the newer versions. Yeah. and

Speaker: I can't put my finger on why i don't like it in the newer versions other than i feel like that that track lasted forever on the n sixty four And I feel like on the newer versions, they shortened it up so much that it's like this track is just not

Speaker: challenging, maybe is the word I'm looking for. um And that's what I loved about the Rainbow Road, because I played that track over and over and over and over again on the because just couldn't because i just couldned I couldn't get into first place because it was just such a long track and so much could happen

Speaker: where the newer versions with shortening it up, they made it less likely that something would happen and they made it much easier to get into that first place and stick in that first place.

Speaker: Well, yeah, I mean, it, It pretty much like what I liked about eight was it, it had the maps that we all knew and loved and they made them look better, more polished.

Speaker: I mean, that's why, like when we were we were trying to decide on what we wanted to discuss and it's like, it's so hard to discuss like,

Speaker: just Mario Kart because like, then you wanted to discuss like all the other, like, and so or Nintendo games that are now, you know, on the switch online membership thing.

Speaker: And they look a lot better now that they've gotten updated graphics. Granted, I still love a lot of the old ones, including n sixty four is Mario Kart. Just because like you said, it's what we grew up on. It's nostalgia. And,

Speaker: um I think that's the main thing that a lot of people go back to because it's like you're we're never going to go back to where gaming is first really mainstream.

Speaker: Like, yeah, one day they're going to have like a virtual reality where you you literally put the headset and set on and it can play any game ever. And I'm sure they probably do already. It's just.

Speaker: you don't really hear about it but then at the same time you got these retro consoles that are still coming out i mean when we traded in the xbox well if they would have had a ps2 we would have gotten a ps2 that day as well but getting the n64 like a lot of people don't realize like that was my childhood I still remember when the N64 would be sold out and then you had to order it.

Speaker: Well, then you had to have a P.O. box and fucking me. I got the shittiest male fucking clerk that there ever could have been at the post office where we lived at the time. And every day, I swear to God, that guy just got joy out of fucking tormenting me saying, oh, you got a package in the and I'm thinking, oh, it's the N64. Finally. oh two almost three months later finally fucking comes i hope that post person never retires i hope he watches this podcast one day and says i remember that guy and sees how much more successful i am than that fucking asshole was like dude this guy went to bed and just

Speaker: got off on thinking of, oh, hey, you know, that Steven kid's going to come back and wonder if his N64 is, and I'm going torture him for it And it's just like, you little fucker. but the He was probably bullied in high school. Like, I swear to God, the guy just loved to torment me.

Speaker: And it's just like, when I finally got the N64, I just kind of looked at it and i'm like, guess what? And he's like, what? And i'm like, we'd like to cancel our PO box now. And PO boxes back in the day used to be expensive.

Speaker: like ye to you have They were expensive then. They're hella expensive now. yeah But nowadays, ah you don't have to do that anymore.

Speaker: I mean, if ah if to like I wish there would have been a GameStop when I was a kid. Like, oh my God, I would never went through the horror of what I had to do just to get an Like that to this day. If I ever get Alzheimer's or dementia, like those are going to be my Vietnam flashbacks. They're going come back in my time of death.

Speaker: um So.

Speaker: Of all the characters in any of the versions, who is your main go-to character?

Speaker: Donkey Kong or Yoshi? Okay, and if you could have neither one of them, who's your second backup?

Speaker: Bowser.

Speaker: and Okay. um For me,

Speaker: I usually pick either Yoshi Toad.

Speaker: With a backup of Peach. Because, know, I'm a princess. But every now and then i did end up picking Bowser. And let me tell you, that fat ass was slow as fuck.

Speaker: Oh yeah, 100%.

Speaker: But it was better than picking picking Fat Cheeks Wario. Yes! He was even worse. so like that kind That kind of leads me to my next question of what's who's the character that you absolutely do not ever choose? Wario. That would be him.

Speaker: Like, could you imagine if, like, they were like, you know what, in the next game, we're going to fan out to most the men, and we're going to make fucking Princess Peach or Rosalita, like, caked out.

Speaker: Like, could you imagine they go up to Waluigi or Wario's character and be like, put that on female characters and I swear to God, we we'll get we'll get every guy's money in the world. and bi They wouldn't even be playing the fucking game.

Speaker: But yeah, I mean, it yeah. Sorry about the yawning, guys. It's just been one of those weeks. Yeah. Fuck today. I. the If I could describe the pain I'm in right now, people would be like, how are you living?

Speaker: um Do some. I think go up to my brother in line to that can be like, hey, your wife wants some ASMR sounds.

Speaker: Just listen to my back cracking right now. Oh,

Speaker: um

Speaker: Shit, I lost my question. Damn it. You're welcome. um i Well, so Rainbow Road is your your favorite.

Speaker: What's your least favorite? who

Speaker: I've got to think of that one for a second. I think Neo Bowser City is my worst favorite.

Speaker: I would say for me it's a toss up between blanking on the name i can envision the the route but it's it's the partial beach one.

Speaker: Oh, ah not no. Cheap, cheap beach. Yeah, that one. it's It's a toss up between that one and Bowser's Castle.

Speaker: Yeah. I hate those stupid, stupid rock things. I can't tell you how many times I have been flattered than the flattest pancake on earth by them. I hate the one with all the fucking Goombas in it.

Speaker: Yeah. um Them little bastards are always getting in your fucking way.

Speaker: Yeah, I can't tell you how many times I hit those little suckers. And especially when you have like a green shell and you're going to hit someone and then one of them little fuckers walks in front of it and takes it.

Speaker: It's like, oh my God, why don't you just rip my fucking clothes off at that point and just bare ass me?

Speaker: um So the question came back to me. Okay.

Speaker: Are you a fan of the baby characters or not? So like baby peach, baby Mario, baby Luigi, et cetera. hu And do you think, do you think they seem faster than the original characters or do you think they seem probably about the same?

Speaker: Probably about the same just because, um I think it's just one of those things where what once the coins entered the equation where you get faster because of the amount of coins you have, like that, I think, really changed the momentum swing. that and I'm still waiting for a fucking Mario Kart where you can actually lead the green shell. So like if someone's like all the way over the left, you can just lead it.

Speaker: Well, that's what the red shell was supposed to be. They're supposed target and follow. Yeah, and then some asshole over in Nintendo was like, how can we make this even more unfair? Hmm, blue shell.

Speaker: a blue shell was born and friendships were fucking decided on the flip of that. So, marriages things we've started talking about items.

Speaker: Oh, God. Excuse me. Um, What item do you think is the best of all the items the games can give you?

Speaker: Blue shell, but also the worst fucking one is a blue shell. It's a double-edged sword. it it works out fine for you, but if someone else gets it and you're in the lead, it's like game over then. Six balls.

Speaker: yeah Straight up. um I would have to agree that the best item is is the blue shell if you're the one perpetuating it. Yeah.

Speaker: If you're the one that's throwing it, yeah, you're good. But if you're the one on the receiving end, then... But I think it's also the worst item if you're the recipient of it.

Speaker: that's um But I was typically really good about dodging it.

Speaker: Because i typically was not so far ahead that I couldn't just quick fall back into second place to drive around the first place. You are one of them fucking people.

Speaker: Is it cheating? Yes. No, it's just being smart about that you're about to get blue shield off the face of the earth and trying to avoid it.

Speaker: Or you could just get a ah party box thing or whatever the fuck it's called, the horn, and use that.

Speaker: know, like a normal fucking person would.

Speaker: But see, I don't like holding onto that party box so that I've wasted ten more boxes along the way. Yeah, that is true.

Speaker: Um. So what item do you think is the most satisfying of all the items?

Speaker: Star, because ah it it won't affect you if you get hit by the lightning strike or by the... um shells i don't know with blue shell if it affect you, but i know I know majority of the smaller items i won't.

Speaker: like The horn won't even affect you if you have the star. I don't think it does. I think it goes to the second place player if first place has a star, if I remember correctly.

Speaker: um I would have to agree with that. And if it's not the star, then I would say Bullet Bill would be like the next,

Speaker: the next one, because I have had the Bullet Bill literally take me from last place all the way to first place. And there is no better feeling than you did like zero work and bill Bullet Bill did everything for you.

Speaker: mainly Alyssa's career in a nutshell.

Speaker: When this podcast gets successful, you better know I'm using that joke.

Speaker: And what item do you think is the most unfair? Blue shell.

Speaker: I think the blue shell is the most angering. But I wouldn't necessarily say it's unfair. That roast bullet bill. Because it it doesn't matter if you're in dead ass. Well, it doesn't matter if you're like last or anything. But if you're like second third and some asshole in fourth gets a bullet bill, like, I don't give a fuck if you're my best friend or my family member. I'm coming for those kneecaps.

Speaker: Yeah. Like, I've even watched it where second and third place will get a bullet bill and just leave the rest of the pack in the fucking dust. It's like, at that point, like, i like I said, hardring harp are going back to, like, the Vanoss crew, I could see why a lot of them were, like, pissed at Brian and Nogula because it felt like they would get those items.

Speaker: They're already fucking OP at the game. Like, come on, you don't have to give them. And then, ni course, in Mario Kart 8, they have... um What the fuck is it called?

Speaker: um

Speaker: It's something to do with the items. Like, it's a special name for the items. And... um Frantic mode. for items and like I got a kick out wildcat he's like I thought frantic mode was supposed to help me and it's like not against those two Irish bastards.

Speaker: So for me i think I think the most unfair item in my opinion is a toss up between the lightning and the ink.

Speaker: And I think it's unfair just because

Speaker: it it only affects the people who are in front of you. It doesn't affect the people behind you. And it doesn't affect you. It's just purely the people in front of you that it affects.

Speaker: So i I see that as an unfair thing, in my opinion.

Speaker: I mean, yeah. You know, it it can be a very, very difficult um thing to gauge with items.

Speaker: That's why I always usually like, you know, re-erasing games like NASCAR and all them because, you know, You don't get fucked by that. You just get fucked by people that are fucking living in their mother's basement, parents' basement, and they're 50 years old and got bullied in high school and they think they think they're so cool when they spin you out and all that shit. Like, that's the one thing I think gaming now is so fucking stupid is like friendly trolling is one thing, but just

Speaker: going out there when you know you're not going to win, and you're going to be like, well, i'm going to troll so that this other person doesn't win. It's like, fuck that. Like, yeah.

Speaker: Like, when you and me and our friends troll each other, it's different. I mean, granted, we've we've all raged in our friendship group on certain games.

Speaker: I think my rage in Wreckfest... Usually the most. I think my Wreckfest rage is...

Speaker: Probably first to... Second to none. Oh my god. the instigator of it Well, the thing that pissed me off... the Oh my god, I could do an episode on that one alone. um The thing that pissed me off... Was one time I was in the lead. I had a CPU DNF in front of me. So I pushed it out the way And here comes fucking...

Speaker: Lucky luck of the fucking Irish Alyssa, even though she isn't Irish, comes up, steals first from me. I was so pissed. And it was right on the line.

Speaker: Like, I'm like, I'm going to get this fucker of the way. He DNF'd. And all a sudden just, I thought I won. And then all a sudden it says second. I'm like, well, who the fuck got first? And it shows her.

Speaker: winning. And I was like, you gotta be fucking kidding me. I feel like if I ever played with a group of friends in you in Mario Kart, like, I would that that switch or that console would not be in the room for very long.

Speaker: I would probably be Anthony playing Mario Kart.

Speaker: i could see that. So I i know that i said what my favorite track was, but I don't know that you said what your favorite track was. Neil Bowser.

Speaker: Or no. oh No, I hated that one. I hated that one. um

Speaker: Baby Park. Baby Park. Okay. Reverse. Just because it's reverse and NASCAR. Okay. and if And if you do it in mirror mode, it's actually NASCAR.

Speaker: thank um And what track do you feel is most overrated? Rainbow Road.

Speaker: My favorite. You do too. Don't even start with me on that. You feel like it is overrated. My favorite, you are saying it's overrated. Well, which Rainbow Road are we talking about?

Speaker: The originals. Okay. Just because... how dare you. Everyone fucking talks about Rainbow Road. It's like, okay, we get it. Rainbow fucking Road.

Speaker: I think for me, it would probably be...

Speaker: It would probably be Bowser's Castle again. Ouch. ouch Excuse me. okay

Speaker: Okay. And what what one do you think is underrated?

Speaker: Which one is underrated? I think a lot of the

Speaker: See, that's very subjective to me. Because, I mean...

Speaker: damn it.

Speaker: Underrated one. I would have to go with maybe... Wouldn't be Cheap Cheap Beach.

Speaker: Or whatever the fuck those fish are called. You got it right, Choo Choo Beach. I think it's the Koopa City.

Speaker: Okay.

Speaker: For me, I think Coconut Mall is the most underrated.

Speaker: Yeah, because didn't that come out on like the DS? the first time or was that on ah was that on the Wii? think it was on the Wii.

Speaker: I think. I could be mistaken. Another system that made me rage, especially Wii Sports. Now that one she's seen me rage on. Specifically the bowling guys.

Speaker: Oh, I fucking hated that. It's still better than Switch Sports. I will say that. I felt like Switch Sports was, oh my god. Yeah, it wasn't as good.

Speaker: It wasn't. but yeah I don't think the system was sensitive enough for it. Well, not only that, I think it was just so overhyped because we thought it was going to be better.

Speaker: And then when it came out, it was just like, well, what the fuck? And it didn't come with golf right away either.

Speaker: um Which is another game that we won't talk about me playing against my wife and fucking was dominating until last hole and then all a sudden fucking Alyssa McTiger Woods over there fucking just comes out of nowhere.

Speaker: See, she smiles now, but here's the thing. There is a new golf game that we actually have and once Alyssa gets her gaming PC, we're going to play it. And once the gaming channel comes up, she better fucking believe she's going to be playing those games.

Speaker: And when she gets hit by a fucking... kicking his ass at him. Oh, yeah, please.

Speaker: Most of time, you kick my ass. It's because all our other friends gang up on me because they're sad seeing you lose all the time.

Speaker: She's the only one that, in Wreckfest, that can consistently finish deadass last each time. It got to the point where Because I'm busy you wrecking people. What can I say? Oh, please. It got to the point where our friends felt so bad for her that we literally would wreck everyone else and then wreck each other just that she would win.

Speaker: And then the one time she won the championship that we created, she made it seem like she was the best driver of all time. Although, Alyssa, how many times did I win the championship?

Speaker: I have no idea. Seven. would have been Would have been in a row had fucking some of our friends not been a bunch of dicks.

Speaker: Oh, that pissed me on But... Anyways... That wasn't the only underrated one that I had on my list. We just went... Down a rabbit hole.

Speaker: The other underrated one that... I think is underrated. Is Moomoo Meadows.

Speaker: Yeah. I like that one too. like yeah That one to me is. More of a simplistic track. But it is. serene.

Speaker: But then just when you think you've learned the track. They put goddamn cows. In the middle of the fucking track. That was the one track I hated the most ah playing against our friends in.

Speaker: And most of our friends would die laughing because I'm like, fucking cow! What are you doing back there, buddy? Shut the fuck up! those cows used to piss me off. You'd get great drifting lines and then you hit one of them fucking cows and it was like,

Speaker: It was like Tommy Boy where they go to they go to push over the cow, cow tipping, and he fucking falls over into the shit.

Speaker: Yep. Now, what course... So, if you if you had it on, like, where the system was picking the courses for you, it could pick any of the courses in any of the... So, like, random. Random.

Speaker: Yep. Yep. What course do you instantly groan at the second that it comes up? Rainbow Road.

Speaker: Why do you hate on Rainbow Road so much? Because it's just a shit track. is not. It is such a shit track. and Unless you're talking about the newer ones.

Speaker: Then yes. I will agree. It's a shit track. All of them are.

Speaker: yeah It's almost as bad as Neo Bowser City. It really is. Nope. Not even remotely in the same category.

Speaker: But then the Shy Guy one is also a bad one too. I hate that fucking map. don't remember that one. I think that was a deluxe one. So Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Edition.

Speaker: okay okay i think it's set over i think it's set in like over in like japan or china because they're the the shy guys are ninjas in that one it's like of course they'd fucking be the little dick the little dick tips and cloaks would be a fucking ninjas over there yeah like okay who's racist now nintendo

Speaker: um Who's playing the stereotypes? It wouldn't be racism. Who's playing the stereotypes now, Nintendo? yeah for For me, my my groaning map I think would have to be Bowser's Castle. Because like I said, I really, really, really, really really really really really hate those stupid fucking rocks.

Speaker: What the fuck are them things called? Um. Thwomps? Oh, Thwomps. Yeah. yeah i mean I think. very call Correct catch me if I'm wrong.

Speaker: Because I always feel like it's. I feel like whoever came up with it. Listened to Mike Tyson say something. Because he's on a speech impediment. And it came out like Thwomp.

Speaker: And they're like. Hey, let's all call it a Thwomp. i

Speaker: but you know what i think it's time to end this episode but before we do all that alissa what's going on next week or yeah next week on the podcast what is next week oh yeah we got our first guest our very first guest and our very first guest If you watch Twitch, you may know him and his wife.
