Speaker: hello everyone And welcome back to... another amazing episode of the Certified Jarvis Podcast. I am Steven Jarvis with me as always is. Alyssa Jarvis.

Speaker: That is my wife. And yes, somehow I got that lucky. um today we will be reviewing The 19... 80. classic. Friday of the 13th.

Speaker: um and debating if it's Still scary. in today's modern horror landscape. And also we will be. talking a little about the new show crystal lake we will not be offering any spoilers it'll be a spoiler free review But...

Speaker: At the same time, we do feel the need to talk about it since it just got came out. But that you'll have to wait. for the end for that. Or if we decide not to. We can always make an episode of it later.

Speaker: So. Alyssa. Friday the 13th. Do you still think that... it's still a classic even to this day, or do you think it's kind of lost its luster?

Speaker: I don't think it falls in either category i think it is kind of in between both. because It still does have some classic to it. But.

Speaker: I think it.

Speaker: It has lost its luster. a little bit. Just because. it uses a lot of old skier tactics. If that makes sense.

Speaker: I mean it yeah it does. um I still think it's. of great movie even in today's horror landscape that being You you can literally.

Speaker: Sit down with your You're... I ain't going to say six -year -old child because, you know, nowadays have changed. When we have kids, they're probably watching their first horror movie at six. I mean, I'll i'll be honest. but um i mean don't don't get me wrong i do I do think it's still a good movie.

Speaker: at the end of the day

Speaker: Yeah. Um... I think... The only thing that I would have changed with it. And I love the whodunit storyline, I think. that at its time was still a very good Trope.

Speaker: of horror movie cinema. um It could still be done. very well today it's just you would have to really really really really make it hard to figure out and and some movies do that very well um I know some people in the latest Scream movie thought it was done really well. Me, I didn't. I kind of guessed one of the first killers.

Speaker: even when we first watched the new Scream movie. Oh, yeah. Friday the 13th. we're told it's a little boy named jason that you know this legend is built around who had drowned um and that strange things were happening at a camp called Crystal Lake.

Speaker: well

Speaker: That's not the case. but Definitely not. We are kind of... led on that journey that it's Jason has survived drowning as a child and has now come back to deliver some sort of vengeance.

Speaker: As I said before, that's not exactly the case. um I... remember seeing this movie when I was probably about 10. with my parents with my dad. Um...

Speaker: when it was on AMC Horror Month or whatever. Yes, I did not see it when i was a little when i was when it was first around because I wasn't around until 1993. So in about...

Speaker: What? 1999 or no. what would that be 2000 would be like 2003. three. Yeah. So in 2003, I had watched the movie for the first time. and yeah it gave me chills i mean it scared the shit out of me and you know i can still watch the movie today and still get a little jump scared every now and then. just because ah it's It's one of those movies that.

Speaker: And I'll put it up there with Halloween.

Speaker: The only difference being is that I feel with every Jason alliteration, even in the original is they found a way. to

Speaker: They found a way to keep it fresh enough. and not overdo it. Where... Like. Halloween did. i I feel like Halloween.

Speaker: as soon as the sequel came out they jumped the shark Where... The only time I feel like Friday the 13th really did that. was. the fifth movie. So my...

Speaker: My question to you. not to cut in but is Do you think that the... The freshness. kind of

Speaker: was Maybe due to. budget. Or like the not overdoing it was maybe do. due to the budget things. Friday the 13th was technically kind of like a low budget movie.

Speaker: by Well, ah horror movies in general back then were low budget, Alyssa. i mean you could go back to Psycho. And it was low budget. You can go back even further to Universal when they had Dracula and Frankenstein and all them. low budget.

Speaker: Um, or hammer when they did the british remakes of those classic monster movies. Low budget. Um, ah And at people with that word low budget. it doesn't mean anything i mean you could have and that's what was so great about those movies was they didn't have to be Big. budget blockbusters like you get today that automatic sometimes most of the time fail Um,

Speaker: It reminds me of the... uh of Kiss. Keep it simple stupid. you know, and That's why Halloween became such a big success is because. it didn't rely on over the top.

Speaker: It relied on things that we would all be afraid of. in real life I mean as a babysitter. And you would probably know this because you did babysit. um You're always told.

Speaker: you know. Make sure you check on the kids every now and then. Well... We had that in when a stranger calls. um And with Friday the 13th. It was based around the myths of like.

Speaker: the stuff you didn't want to do on a Friday the 13th. You didn't want to run across the road or you didn't want to drive after a black cat. crossed your path why it had to be black i don't know but you didn't want to cross its path after it crossed yours. um You didn't want to go under a ladder for whatever reason. You didn't want to spill salt or whatever shit like that.

Speaker: And... Friday the 13th, let's be honest. was a ripoff of Halloween. but Would I like that it did better than Halloween?

Speaker: was It. just kept it so simple. that even looking back on it today, it was like, God, why couldn't we? realize it was Pamela right away.

Speaker: Like it's so stupid that and people can say they knew it was the mother right away bullshit Like no. anyone from when they first seen this movie can literally be show up in the comments and say they knew it bullshit.

Speaker: They didn't know It was so... Yeah. And I'm not saying out of left field. i think it was very smart creatively because Why would you want to...

Speaker: Why would you want to... Unleash Jason. Already. when you could have just waited. And. It would have been.

Speaker: Much better. Just waiting. Well, that and the other thing is why would you want to Why would you want to reveal who the killer is right away?

Speaker: in that Well, exactly. movie like i i feel like it would have really lost a lot if it had revealed. her immediately.

Speaker: Well, yeah, but like... So when when the Steve Christie kill happens... And he's like, oh, hey, it's you. What are you doing out in this mess? It's like, okay, so he knows who this person is.

Speaker: Well... Who did the Christies know? Pamela. Right. So like right then and there, it kind of gives it away. To a point.

Speaker: but not so much where it's like, Maybe it is the mother. But what because really... Gives it away once the reveal happens.

Speaker: Is when. she starts talking about Jason. My son. All that. Like, she didn't have to go fucking nuts like she later does in that scene.

Speaker: to know that this woman is the killer now. And it took me so many years to kind of, even though... We all know what happens in the ending and all that.

Speaker: It took me so many years for that to click. that the reason why she did this was because She felt that. And it wasn't that she really blamed the Christies. She more blamed the camp.

Speaker: Right. And specifically the camp counselors who are. Have in there fun. why mean While her son was drowning. and all honesty If I would have ever been a camp counselor back then.

Speaker: You know. Not much to do. But, you know, I mean, and that's another thing like. it It did. play off that of the whole teenagers are horny and they're going to smoke.

Speaker: Dope. drink. All that. like it It was another thing that they copied from Halloween, yes. But again, they made it better. And that. It wasn't just around everyday life. You were at...

Speaker: Camp. Well, what happens ah honestly at some camps, you have that camp or summer romance. and you know once the summer's over you go back to wherever you're from and bam, that romance is over.

Speaker: um And that was another thing that scared me. I loved camping as a kid, but at the same time... like If if. I wasn't in the same tent as my parents or whatever.

Speaker: It was always scary for me because it was... one of those things of like well you hear ah something like an animal step on a twig and automatically you'd be scared And that's what. I really do love about Friday the 13th more even than I do love about Halloween.

Speaker: is that With Friday the 13th.

Speaker: It. It wasn't in a... in an area that you're most familiar with. It happens at a summer camp that you'd probably only visit. Maybe every summer, yes. But at the same time, like.

Speaker: How frightening would it be is You're there when Jason drowns. Granted we don't see that. We see it in the show. But we just see flashbacks or just hear about jason drowning in the movie And.

Speaker: you know, You hear about it in the movie. The only time you really see a flashback is when Pamela's re... rehashing it to Alice. And.

Speaker: I mean... I don't blame the woman For what she did. Because it's like that's your only child. How else? are and Yes, I know people hear this and think, oh, well, Steven, if he ever lost his only child would go nuts. No.

Speaker: Why she went nuts was because the Christie's kept trying to reopen the... The. camp.

Speaker: like she could care she never went after the only christy she ever went after was Steve. But I think that was just. And again, I think that was a throwaway kill.

Speaker: Which there are a few in this movie. um

Speaker: But at the same time, I think. Pamela was just trying to keep the camp closed so that no one else would. feel the loss she did. And i I get that.

Speaker: But. Kind of playing devil's advocate here a little bit. At the same time. Yes. Yes, you lost your son. Yes, that's a hard thing to deal with.

Speaker: that that's not lost on me. However, Life does go on. but Jace was her whole life. It's different if...

Speaker: you have something that can take your mind away from that pain. I mean... Eric Clapton said it best in Tears in Heaven, you know.

Speaker: um That's how he released his pain. um Pamela didn't have that. and i And I... i get that but at the same time What I mean by life goes on is.

Speaker: Yes, maybe. her life got frozen in that moment. but everybody else around her. Time doesn't freeze. Life goes on.

Speaker: Well... And I think life would have went on with her. for her. And the show kind of.

Speaker: touches on that. But. How would you feel? If. Not even a year later. They're already opening up the camp. They haven't found your son's body So you feel like that's his grave.

Speaker: And yet you have people that are willing to desecrate his grave. just to have cheap thrills.

Speaker: And again... I look at Pamela. In the eyes of She's the Avenger.

Speaker: of promiscuous teens that are willing to sacrifice their mortality just to have sex and do stupid shit. I mean, we, well, some of us all did it.

Speaker: um Me as a teen. I mean I wasn't into drugs or drinking but... I fooled around. and you know nowadays i am ashamed of it but back then it's like you're a teenager And that's.

Speaker: what that move this movie touches on is that Most of these teenagers were probably going to live very. hopefully successful lives. But it didn't matter to them in that moment because...

Speaker: They wanted to have sex or they wanted to drink or, you know, they wanted to rebel against their parents. conformity. and Be honest with you. I was the same way You know, my parents weren't overly strict, but I still felt in that time they were.

Speaker: Because let's be honest, I hated school. And I think that's what. Pamela. Um... is in this movie.

Speaker: is that she's the avenger of everything that she feels that immorality is wrong. Like. promiscuous sex.

Speaker: Underage drinking well back in them days you could be 18 and drink. But.

Speaker: At the same time to her. It also goes with the fact that. She projects. those people. at that camp. as the ones that killed their son.

Speaker: i I think if... If. they would have treated it seriously enough. Pamela probably would have went on with her life. But you also have to realize.

Speaker: What?

Speaker: We're going off a woman scorned in a way. That she lost her son. you you And that's the thing I like about Crystal Lake. Is that it dwells into her psyche.

Speaker: Where in the movie you didn't really get much of that. You didn't get that backstory of how she really honestly felt about losing her only child.

Speaker: Right. And that's why I really do love the show. Um.

Speaker: And yes, in the movie there are some stupid moments. I mean... Hi. But Lily doesn't have stupid moments, though. Yeah. I don't get.

Speaker: The whole... I think her name is Marcy, the one that Kevin Bacon is with in that movie. the whole monologue that she has in the bathroom while she's washing her hands.

Speaker: Or her hair or whatever. after just having sex with Kevin Bacon, who, you know. has one of the most brutal deaths in that movie. Um,

Speaker: having a fucking arrow shoved up through his throat. Great. Like... I mean, at least he went out with a bang. yeah I mean, can you say bang? because ah and It was after. so It was after.

Speaker: Well, they had sex is what I'm saying. He went out with a bang. Okay, yes, true. Sure. And... i Yeah, i didn't I didn't like that his girlfriend had the fucking monologue of Lizzie.

Speaker: You'll always be drool or whatever she fucking says. i I thought that was stupid. It doesn't make sense to me either. What the... Unless they told her to ad -lib in that scene, like I would have...

Speaker: I would have cut it. Her kill is badass.

Speaker: but Other than that, that scene where she's in there doing that is just it's a throwaway up until the kill happens. And the kill is. Fucking amazing. Um...

Speaker: Tom Savini. One of them. best of facts guys ever Um... I agree. I don't think, well.

Speaker: Greg. Nekotaro, he's up there. But... Tom Savini it Will always be a legend. I mean. The guy.

Speaker: He literally came back. in part four just to kill jason And does it. has Jason die in the most brutal fucking way. Like. Who would come back to the movie? Just to kill.

Speaker: something that they helped create like i mean that that's the bad ah Fucking badass. Like, I'll say it. Um... And the way that he has. The blood splurt.

Speaker: from Pamela after she's decapitated. Again, like. That just... Badass. Like... Right. He did a good job of... ah putting in the little details.

Speaker: yeah That just made it. feel more realistic at the Yeah. day Yeah. and And that's why I still say I i think it does hold up.

Speaker: Um. It's just some parts of the story don't. And I know people shit on me for it, but like.

Speaker: Get rid of fucking Kevin Bacon girlfriend's monologue scene. Just go straight to the kill. Would have been fine. Um...

Speaker: God what other scene. Oh the cop scene. Where the cop shows up on the bike and fucking.

Speaker: The one guy who's trying to get into the pants of the.

Speaker: god Ned. When Ned's fucking just dancing around like it. dressed up like in a Native American headdress. mocking a Native American call.

Speaker: It's just like really like that Like that scene could have been edited. Or cut just a bit. like Have the officer come. Talk to the kids. Like he did.

Speaker: But, like, yeah, like, there there was some scenes in this movie that... I would have cut. Um... The Ned part. um I would have showed his kill.

Speaker: Like that killed. Yeah. Give me that kill. If it I wanted to see him go in there.

Speaker: And Pamela just slit his throat. Like. I would have loved to have seen that kill. Um...

Speaker: What other kill was there? or scene that was kind of throwaway -able.

Speaker: god i just i feel like you've hit most of them Well... Um, Annie. When Annie talks about why she wants to do with her life.

Speaker: I think that's a throwaway scene too. Um. Although... I mean she is kind of fucking stupid that she just randomly gets into a vehicle and just expects them to take her to Crystal Lake.

Speaker: Like... If you're that fucking hard up, like... just keep walking like Yeah, it was stupid. And then her fucking... Death.

Speaker: Which was pretty badass. like I'll admit, it was pretty badass. But, I mean, she... doesn't really fight. getting killed. She just literally goes up against Tree, gets her throat cut, and that's it.

Speaker: Like, seriously. You're you're not going to put up more fight than that? yeah I was going to say, you've got no fight. or flight. um Yeah. or wear a mask or anything.

Speaker: I would have liked to have seen Bill's death.

Speaker: I think that would have been a cool death. Granted, we see him pinned up against the door. and Like there's. arrow shot through him, I think. um That would have been a cool death.

Speaker: Um...

Speaker: God. The other girl's death. would have been pretty cool i mean you see her go into the archery range and that's it Um...

Speaker: I think that. Death scene should have been in there. Yeah, they they definitely left out. kill scenes that definitely should have. Yeah.

Speaker: Should have been present. Definitely cut the diner scene. like I thought the diner scene was so how he was flirting with the fucking cat. the the waitress like come on christy like just get back to the fucking camp you Fucking moron.

Speaker: Like you're so worried about you're so worried about getting shit done at the camp. Why aren't you there? Like, fuck your lunch. You want lunch? Just go into town, get the fucking shit, and bring it back. like And everyone's saying, well, yeah.

Speaker: He's gonna He's going to go broke up there. Well, if you're working on that limited of a fucking budget, you're not going to like a fancy diner. Which, granted, I know that may seem... funny. hearing from me but i mean You're not going to spend the whole day at the fucking diner.

Speaker: You're going to be. working on the camp. and And I think that was kind of stupid. It should have focused. Like... Okay, so when Annie comes into town... Yes.

Speaker: Have those scenes. Perfect. but You're trying to invest people in the camp. Why not keep it at the camp? Don't fucking go from there. Yeah.

Speaker: yeah And I think that's what kind of... kills the suspense. Where, like... movies with Halloween. Once Michael gets to Haddonfield, It keeps going up. And up and up until Lori goes in the house and then it's.

Speaker: the dial is broken. Um... which Which in Friday the 13th, it does happen. It's just I feel it happened so fucking late. Because once Alice sees that Bill and...

Speaker: The other one is dead. Like... you ah You already put two and two together. that. She's gonna be the one to survive.

Speaker: And that. It's gonna go by so slow. And I hated that slow build. Because it's like. Well, what are you waiting for? Why are you going to fucking...

Speaker: reveal or reveal the killer when she's on the beach and all that shit like are you gonna he she's gonna she kills ah pamela but yet jason runs up behind her and kills her like are you gonna do that Like, that's the part that I didn't like of the ending.

Speaker: where like other horror movies it's like once that you knew the ending was coming in other ones where this one it just it's slow slow slow build And Alice is so stupid in some scenes. like You knocked the bitch out.

Speaker: And you're going to go fuck around. Like, no, you're fucking... And she runs away from the Jeep. Because she sees Annie in there.

Speaker: Like, no. You're going to get in that fucking Jeep and you're going to get out of there. Right. Like it's so stupid That. And people will be like, well, she didn't grab the keys.

Speaker: Again. that That's how stupid some of these movies kind of were back then. It's like, okay, you knock this bitch out, you think she's dead. You're gonna search the pockets for fucking keys.

Speaker: Great. Or you're going to hitchhike your ass back to town. And fucking alert everyone that, hey. Jason Voorhees' mom just killed everyone at camp.

Speaker: Hello, Diego. Like, that that's the part that... I feel should have been. Better done. But at the same time, it's like they want you to think that, oh, hey, you know, she can't escape. and She's stuck here and all that shit. It's like, no, any real fucking person would hitchhike their ass back to town.

Speaker: Great. And. for me the the other really weird thing is how they decided to end the movie. And how she's just. out in the middle of the lake and then Jason.

Speaker: jumps out at her. Well they wanted to do the one final jump scare. Right. and i get that but it was just it just seemed so almost out of place to me Well, I... think And again, I think this was another.

Speaker: copyism of Halloween where when Loomis looks, Michael's not there. They wanted it to be where. but Yeah, I don't understand why she's out in the middle of fucking like, like you already killed.

Speaker: the killer, like... Yeah, you're going to get in a fucking boat in a daze and just... be out there like now. but I think so I don't even know if that... I think that's a dream.

Speaker: that she had. It's almost gotta be. because like you'd be in so much shock why you wouldn't even think about getting in a fucking boat Right.

Speaker: So you wouldn't even be thinking about it, even barely even moving one direction. Yeah, you'd you'd. And I think that I think what happened is after she killed Pamela. She was in such shock that she fainted.

Speaker: And that she dreamed.

Speaker: Being on the lake she dreamed. Of Jason grabbing her and all that. I think that was a dream. because like And the reason I say that is because you look at it.

Speaker: And when... The song plays and the cops are shouting at her from. on the beach. Yeah, I think that was a dream sequence.

Speaker: It had to be.

Speaker: Because I mean, yeah, you're in so much shock. It kind of makes sense with how weird it is. yeah Yeah. You're in such shock that. You're not getting in a fucking boat, let alone paddling out. in the middle of the lake.

Speaker: Why? For what reason? Right. So I think... I think the movie still stands up today I mean granted.

Speaker: You're in a much different, well, I mean... They still think Michael Myers got. fucking killed in the last Halloween movie, which... Anyone with a fucking brain could tell you he's not dead.

Speaker: I mean, fuck. It...

Speaker: They think he's dead then Wait until... 2028 when they release another fucking movie. Right. he never which thursday there's always There's talks about it for the 50th anniversary. There's talks of a new Halloween movie.

Speaker: which John Carpenter has stated he would come back for another Halloween movie, which would be badass, seeing him helm that again. Um. But no, like...

Speaker: ah Get rid of the ending. of her being in the fucking boat for no reason. Like, get rid of that. Um...

Speaker: And it sucks. because i think Adrian King, who plays Alice. Was going to be.

Speaker: if If she wouldn't have gotten stalked. In real life, I think she would have been the person. in I think she would have not been killed off so early in part two.

Speaker: But I also think she would have had a bigger role in the sequels.

Speaker: hadn't what happened to her in her personal life not happened. Right. Because at that point, your your personal life is more important than your movie life and you have to protect it.

Speaker: Well yeah, and and I don't know the full story. behind all that but i know she was getting stalked at And back then like that. you didn't have internet back then so it's like it takes some pretty good detective work for someone to stalk you back then i mean daniel harris was even stalked as a little girl after Halloween. four or five.

Speaker: Jeez. End. It's... Again. And I'll always say this, movies may be an escape. But for someone that. fucked in the head.

Speaker: It's a way for them to.

Speaker: Live it that way, I guess, is the best way you could say it. Yeah. And... I do think Adrian King as Alice. gives up tremendous performance.

Speaker: In the very first one, I think Betsy Palmer has... Pamela, v I almost said Jason. but as Pamela Voorhees. Does very well. I think Kevin Bacon.

Speaker: did Although a lot of people think this is his first movie. That's a lie. His first movie was National Lampoon's Animal House. Um...

Speaker: I was shocked that... He wasn't Saved. Or was. one that got killed. I was actually shocked by that.

Speaker: But then again... Me being a kid of the 90s. The very first movie I think I seen him in was Tremors.

Speaker: So I didn't. Again, when you're that young, you don't put together that oh this movie was made in the 80s when he was still young and up and coming Nerdy.

Speaker: And...

Speaker: i just I think the movie is still very good. Good. but there are some changes that it desperately would need if made today. Oh, 100%.

Speaker: Because there's there's still some scenes within the movie that... definitely still wouldn't fly today. unfortunately. But. Well, what scenes?

Speaker: So like specifically that one of the scenes that you brought up that. you think is kind of like a throwaway scene with like the the Native American. Um. Or making fun of the name American. I don't think he was making fun of it.

Speaker: I think he's just being that stupid idiot that Ned is. It's just, it's such a stupid moment. and That it was like. Why? All right.

Speaker: Like it And he tries so hard to pick. pick up the one girl. And it's like, dude. You have no chance with her. I'm sorry.

Speaker: One. and well Well, the one scene that I think today... If they made it. where he pretends to drown. And. She gives him mouth to mouth and he kisses her. I think that scene today would not fly.

Speaker: Oh, I agree. And... I mean, it was a stupid... I mean... I like the scene that he tried. to pretend to drown. Okay, I like that.

Speaker: and they they save them and all that. But I think the scene that they could have. Cut. was when he kisses her. Like I thought that was stupid Like ah if you're going to try to get with.

Speaker: her. Why would you fake something like that? Like, i that yeah, I don't get it.

Speaker: And. Yeah.

Speaker: I just, I mean, I.

Speaker: I get the motive behind it because. I think he... He knows that he's got no shot. or chance in hell. To to get her or to even be able to get close enough to kiss her Unless.

Speaker: He fakes something like that. because then he knows she has to do mouth -to -mouth at that point. Yeah. i I, yeah. I don't know. I think this is a stupid scene.

Speaker: Um.

Speaker: God, there's another one in there that I know I'm gonna forget.

Speaker: Um...

Speaker: I know I'm going to forget it. but It's just it. Yeah Um,

Speaker: i mean I thought seeing Kevin Bacon naked would need to be cut. ah we don't want to see that Nobody wants to see Kevin naked. kevin na and Kevin Macon.

Speaker: Is that what you said? Because I tried to say bacon, but it came out naked at the same time. So it came out kind of funky. Uh... That is... I mean, I You know. Granted, they they wanted to do the horror troupe.

Speaker: trope Bullshit story plot. thing that every horror movie and at that point was doing. but i mean again it was It's stupid.

Speaker: It's almost as stupid as when in Halloween when they're like... Talking about. ripping each other's clothes off and and i know people get but heard about it today, but when... Paul says, or no, not Paul.

Speaker: Um, god

Speaker: Oh, he's dating.

Speaker: He's dating um AHHHHH!

Speaker: Nope. Paul, what's his name? Bob. When Bob says... We rip Lindsey's clothes off. like It was a stupid thing to say even back then.

Speaker: And that's the way I look at some of the. I'm deaf. Fuck, I'll even put that. scene being as stupid as the scene where Kevin Bacon's girlfriend's doing the fucking monologue.

Speaker: Like she's Liz Taylor. It's like, fuck off. Just look in the shower curtain, get the fucking axe in the fucking head and. Let's fucking move on.

Speaker: It's like that scene in Monty Python and the Holy Grail where the... Where the... chick in the fucking... Uh... nurse thing. is like talking and then it's like get on with it i was waiting for that scene just get on with it like we don't fucking care about your fucking monologue like just Fucking die.

Speaker: Move on. what What's my motivation for this scene while I'm washing my hands? Okay, you walk into the shower. You turn around, you get an axe in your fucking head, and we move on.

Speaker: But I want to be taken as a serious actress. No one fucking cares. You're in a horror movie that no one in their right mind would have. And and this isn't shitting on Friday the 13th. I think it's a great franchise. Did a lot of things better than Halloween did.

Speaker: I think. i think oh goodness gracious

Speaker: I think the... forward. It did a lot of things that the other one didn't do well. Oh yeah, 100%. I mean, you knew who the killer was on Halloween.

Speaker: You didn't know who the killer was on Friday the 13th. Um. I... And yeah as much as I love Halloween. I think Friday the 13th is better.

Speaker: I... I put them. pretty side by side i i think they're Well, for being a ripoff. Out of all the rip -offs we got... You got to think that Friday the 13th is the better one.

Speaker: I mean, it introduced... And the... This is true. Friday the 13th is considered a slasher movie. Halloween was considered a thriller. horror movie.

Speaker: But then became a slasher movie once the second one came out because Yet again. though rules of horror had changed. because of Friday the 13th. Friday the 13th wasn't afraid to get dirty.

Speaker: Where Halloween, I felt, kind of was like... You know those movies? back and like, like. Alfred Hitchcock where you know they showed a little bit of blood But they weren't like.

Speaker: Totally massacring. everything and showing it. Friday the 13th wasn't afraid to do that. Great. And the later sequels just ramp that up with Jason. And I like that.

Speaker: I did like that. Granted, I'm not one of these people that... will watch the Terrifier movies or saw. and be like, oh, I love that. Like, no. I'm not. I'm not one of those people that needs Fucking buckets of gore. I don't need that.

Speaker: Great. I think there's a fine line.

Speaker: And I agree with that. I think there is definitely a fine line. but before it ends up being. too much gore. verses. enough to make it feel realistic.

Speaker: And that's why I won't watch any of the get. ah Galeo movies or however they fucking say them. Where it's just. buckets and buckets of fucking gore. like uh Herschel Gordon Lewis movies. I will never fucking watch them.

Speaker: Um. Just not my thing. But like with Friday the 13th, it's not over the top. Like it's... it it It's to a point.

Speaker: but it reels itself back in. and And I... I am gonna hate myself for saying this, but I think Friday the 13th is the better franchise.

Speaker: There Mark, I said it. And of course, you're not watching me to hear this. to hear that. Um, But yeah. I... I think Friday the 13th.

Speaker: does a lot of things. better as a slasher movie than Halloween did.

Speaker: but I think Halloween was still more ahead of its time than Friday the 13th was. I would agree with that.

Speaker: I mean... A little kid. Killing his sister on a... on Halloween and then coming back. 18 no 15 years later.

Speaker: to do it again.

Speaker: was pretty badass. And the mother thing I felt like was done before. I could probably be wrong on that, but I feel like it was done before. and It's just...

Speaker: What really sold it was that it was a whodunit. Alright. But at the same time, it kind of makes you wonder if Jason didn't help. in some way because Like we were saying, you know, with the show.

Speaker: it It kind of explains it a little bit more. But then at in part two. Jenny does kind of give it away that it's like, well, what if Jason saw his mother?

Speaker: being the head. beheaded that night. So it was almost kind of like Jason was still, and that's the thing. Okay. So.

Speaker: Before we end the show, I want to say this, and it is kind of talking about the show. Yes, there was a current in the lake. But honestly, like that body is not going to be taken that quick.

Speaker: Great. I mean, at least in my opinion. Um... they would have found Jason. In that fucking water. so to me it kind of makes me wonder if He didn't drown.

Speaker: at all And that he just fucking disappeared. It's possible. Because like even in the show when when she jumps in to try and save him he's He's still.

Speaker: thrashing around and then when she jumps in he's gone Like. Yeah. so i mean it It.

Speaker: The show makes you. so really, really sad for Jason. Yeah. Hey. it does where i think the movies didn't want you to feel that way I think it does a good job.

Speaker: explaining Jason more. And. Yeah, oh yeah. And I love the show. i really do love the show i know some people think that it loses i haven't so we haven't seen the whole thing yet And I know there have been some people that are like, well, it loses steam halfway through the first season. but I mean that's their opinions.

Speaker: You're not going to hit a banger. out of everything. seen in the show. And for what I've seen, i I think it's a great show. I can't wait for season two.

Speaker: Great. I think so far it is a really great show as well. Well, okay. So I got to answer. I want to ask you this question. So now there's talks with... how the rights and all that got divvied up after the lawsuit.

Speaker: which I. feel was one of the most stupidest lawsuits ever that should never even happened. Do you? In Hollywood.

Speaker: make a Jason movie without the title Friday the 13th? Air. Do you make a Friday the 13th movie without Jason?

Speaker: I don't think you can have Friday the 13th without Jason. But at the same time... I think it would be hard to make. a Jason movie without Friday the 13th, but I think it would be more doable.

Speaker: than making a Friday the 13th without Jason. if that makes sense. So if if you... Let's see. Sean Cunningham. comes to you and says, okay, we can't use Friday the 13th.

Speaker: How are you pitching? a new name for the franchise

Speaker: You can't you so I think you couldn't use Voorhees.

Speaker: Or Pamela.

Speaker: So how are you pitching that?

Speaker: I'm tugging tail and running. Yeah. Because I just don't see. either version winning. Like you would have to come up with a whole new backstory.

Speaker: And you lose such a major... selling point if you eliminate either or. and And that's kind of like what... with what they did.

Speaker: with the show. Calling it Crystal Lake like. Like... Me and Mark have talked about it. And it's like, well, Are they... So it's weird now. because of the rights issues.

Speaker: Um... And Victor Miller is now passed away. passed away a few months ago i think Yeah, I can do one more. So...

Speaker: As Sean Cunningham. Do you go to his family and cut them a sizable check and say, hey, I want it all?

Speaker: It wouldn't be a bad move, I don't think. I honestly think... Well, look at what the Akkad's did. Mustafa Akkad believed so much in Halloween that he literally cut Everyone to check and said, I want.

Speaker: My name. to be the only one. that gets to have a say.

Speaker: Like I think that's the best way to go about it And... I honestly think Sean Cunningham should. i think he should just be like hey you know what Let's.

Speaker: so I want to say this I think. The lawsuit was stupid. Because. You had two adults. that could have came together at any time in history.

Speaker: and said, okay. Victor, what do you want? Do you just want your name on it? Do you want? A percentage do you want?

Speaker: Like what do you want? Right. And if I'm Sean Cunningham, I would have done that a long -ass time ago. I would have just went with to Victor and I would have said, okay.

Speaker: Even after the first movie is done, I would have been like, okay, Victor. I wanna keep making movies. If you don't that's fine. What do you want so that one day down the road you can't use a fucking...

Speaker: Technicality. to Fuck up the momentum that Friday the 13th was having because. Before the lawsuit, we were going to have another movie.

Speaker: Like there was already talks of it and Sean Cunningham was trying to get it through before the lawsuit happened. And from the sounds of it, it was going to be a sequel to the remake.

Speaker: and Derek Mears supposedly was going to come back as Jason, which I would have been okay with. I feel like him in the remake, he did a really good job as Jason. Um... But for me, if Sean... kind of If I'm...

Speaker: um Big time name in Hollywood and Sean Cunningham's like, okay, Steven. We can't use Friday the 13th. And we can't use backstory.

Speaker: What do you do? I would literally just tell him. Buy the fucking rights and we'll talk. Like get everything. No matter what. How much it cost.

Speaker: Whatever. Buy everything. Do like what the Cods did. But until then, I'm not interested. i wouldn't even touch it I mean, like you could go the Crystal Lake route, yes. But then every fucking movie would have to be.

Speaker: At Crystal Lake. You couldn't do like. Jason takes Manhattan or Jason goes to fucking hell or whatever. You couldn't do that. You would literally have to have it actually.

Speaker: right which i wouldn't i wouldn't be mad about that because if you really think about it That's what that show, what that's what it was all about. Yes, the second one. is Yeah.

Speaker: but at the same time it would end up being so repetitive. Yeah, yeah. And it it would ultimately.

Speaker: lose its luster. That's why i I yeah, I think you got to get that If you're going to make a fucking another Friday the 13th movie, you've got to get them fucking right.

Speaker: You don't... Because, okay, you you you you come out with a new Jason movie. And it's not called Friday the 13th. It's not called camp.

Speaker: Crystal Lake or Crystal Lake. It's not called Crystal Lake, whatever it's going to be called. I don't think it works. Yes, you have Jason, and Jason's going to be in his...

Speaker: Fucking... badass form but you can only do adult jason you can't do kid jason so you can't go back at any point anymore. you'd have to still focus on adult.

Speaker: Jason. So at that point, it's it I just don't think it would work. i really don't But I think we're going to end it there. I think we. came up with a lot of good talking points today. um to the people that will watch this episode.

Speaker: Give us some feedback on what you think. um We would really love to read it. We would really love to hear about it. And who knows, we'd even put it in our next episode. Um.

Speaker: But... Next week. I think we should do Because I want to save Halloween for like near Halloween.

Speaker: I agree. um I think next week we're going to talk about.

Speaker: Because we're still in a horror month. I want to do... underappreciated horror movie gems.

Speaker: So we could talk about like my bloody Valentine. Tear Train. what the ones that really went under the radar. Um...

Speaker: And we will be back next Friday. doing that. um We want to. Shout out, Brian. Finally coming back. and talking shit We missed you, Brian.

Speaker: Um, we also want to throw out this challenge to talking shit which hopefully mark and brian see this How about you guys come on our fucking show, you assholes?

Speaker: Like, fuck, you go. I. I think they need to come on during our whole month here. just for the pure period. Fuckery.

Speaker: fuckery and because um Mark is such a... Horror fanatic. I mean... His background says it, period.

Speaker: What about me? Obviously, you're a horror fanatic too. I think, yeah. I think I'm probably... Well, I think we're both in the same realm of me and him as horror phonetics but i yes i like different genres too Yes.

Speaker: but at the same time Ooh, that'd be really good debate between me and him. This is it. I'm tossing down the gauntlet. to talking shit yeah you know what quit being a bunch of pussies Let's sit down. Let's dot some I's.

Speaker: and some lowercase j's and let's get this fucking thing done Come on! The people. want to see it.

Speaker: Certified Jarvis in one corner. talking shit another i mean they would beat us by subscriber count viewership But you know what? I don't care. I want to throw down that gauntlet.

Speaker: I want to go 20. 50 rounds. Four quarters. whatever soccer does. Nine innings of baseball.

Speaker: Talking shit versus certified Jarvis. And we can make it a debate about like. Halloween versus Friday the 13th or whatever.

Speaker: God damn, I really want to get with Mark and Brian and do that. um But yeah, we're going to have more guests. It's just... Right now, we're we're focused on the Horror Month.

Speaker: Um,

Speaker: And plus, we are going to try and get more guests. Hopefully. Um. I really want to reach out to Peter Anthony again and get that. set up.

Speaker: kind of reschedule that. Um, But yeah, we we have some guests that we want to bring. on the show. Um... We also have some other ideas on what we want to do with the show.

Speaker: Um, i know we've been talking about a new intro for a long ass time which i think we need to do And... um Yeah. So. This whole scenery that you see here, it's all going to change because after this show is done, we're going to tear down my computer setup and we're going to bring it into the spare bedroom.

Speaker: And it's going to be fun. So. Check us out next week. as we talk. Unheralded. Horror movie gems. And also...

Speaker: I am Steven. That is Alyssa. And we want to thank everyone that continues to watch this show. and their tremendous support. We couldn't do it without you guys.

Speaker: And... Yeah. Happily married. Questionably certified. See you all. next time.
