Speaker 1 (00:03):

Welcome to the Solarpreneur podcast, where we teach you to take your solar business to the next level. My name is Taylor Armstrong and went from $50 in my bank account and struggling for groceries to closing 150 deals in a year and cracking the code on why sales reps fail. I teach you to avoid the mistakes I made and bringing the top solar dogs, the industry to let you in on the secrets of generating more leads, falling up like a pro and closing more deals. What is a Solarpreneur you might ask a Solarpreneur is a new breed of solar pro that is willing to do whatever it takes to achieve mastery. And you are about to become one what's up Solarpreneurs Taylor Armstrong here with another episode.

Speaker 2 (00:45):

Hope you're doing awesome. And I am here as always trying to make your life better. As a solar sales professional, help you close more deals, help you generate more leads and help you be successful in this awesome industry. Hopefully I can do that. So today I just got back from a little trip, went to a Dallas, Texas was at Door to Door Fest, 2021. That's what we're going to be talking about today is just a little recap of the event. And hopefully everyone here has gone to some events. I consider them something that's vital to your growth. Something that you need to do something that's refreshing. Okay. Then there also is the flip side, I'll admit. Sometimes I get an a on an event spree. I consider myself sort of a personal development junkie at times. And, um, I think it's easy to get caught in that trap, um, of going too many, go into too many events and not applying the stuff you've learned.

Speaker 2 (01:50):

So there's gotta be a balance, but I think it's good to go to, you know, an event a quarter, at least a couple events a year. These are things that are going to help refresh your mind, help you give you new ideas, help you connect with other people who are crushing it in the industry. And that's what you need as they say, your network determines your net worth. So you never know who you're going to meet. What that one line is that you're going to learn it. That's going to help you take it to the next level. If you haven't been to any events or if you don't know why you should go to events. We actually did a show on this, uh, probably six, seven months ago, little while ago, but it's the called the importance of live events, I believe was the name of the episode.

Speaker 2 (02:36):

So go search for that. If you haven't already, and that we broke down just specific reasons why you should be attending events. So I'll get off the soap box, but I wanted to give you Solarpreneurs. I recap if you weren't there of what you missed at door-to-door Fest 2021. Okay. So they got to in door-to-door con and now door to door Fest, not to be confused. Okay. This door to door Fest is, um, put on by my friends, Taylor McCarthy and Danny Pessy two guys who are doing great things for the industry, have a lot of respect for them and both top performers in their own. Right. Um, so I highly recommend their program. Knockstar, if you haven't checked that out. And we had Danny Pessy on the podcast, um, a few weeks back, he shared some details about that and drop some value bombs.

Speaker 2 (03:27):

So go listen to that episode, if you haven't already, but door-to-door Fest, it was a great event. It was their first kind of big event that they put on. I mentioned I went through their Knockstar program, um, just got through with that. So that's a great resource. If you want to go try it. If you're looking for additional training, it's a great resource. And

Introduction to Solarpreneur Podcast

00:00:03
Speaker
Welcome to the Solarpreneur Podcast, where we teach you to take your solar business to the next level.
00:00:08
Speaker
My name is Taylor Armstrong.
00:00:10
Speaker
I went from $50 in my bank account and struggling for groceries to closing 150 deals in a year and cracking the code on why sales reps fell.
00:00:19
Speaker
I teach you how to avoid the mistakes I made and bring in the top solar dogs of the industry to let you in on the secrets of generating more leads, falling up like a pro, and closing more deals.
00:00:31
Speaker
What is a Solarpreneur you might ask?
00:00:33
Speaker
A Solarpreneur is a new breed of Solar Pro that is willing to do whatever it takes to achieve mastery and you are about to become one.
00:00:41
Speaker
What's up, Solarpreneurs?
00:00:42
Speaker
Taylor Armstrong here with another episode.
00:00:45
Speaker
Hope you're doing awesome.
00:00:47
Speaker
And I am here, as always, trying to make your life better as a solar sales professional, help you close more deals, help you generate more leads, and help you be successful in this awesome industry.
00:01:01
Speaker
Hopefully I didn't do that.
00:01:03
Speaker
So today I just got back from a little trip, went to Dallas, Texas, was at Door-to-Door Fest 2021.

Importance of Industry Events

00:01:12
Speaker
That's what we're going to be talking about today is just a little recap of the event.
00:01:18
Speaker
and hopefully everyone here has gone to some events i consider them something that's vital to your growth something that you need to do something that's refreshing okay then there also is the flip side i'll admit sometimes i get on an event spree
00:01:35
Speaker
I consider myself sort of a personal development junkie at times, and I think it's easy to get caught in that trap of going to too many events and not applying the stuff you learn.
00:01:50
Speaker
So there's got to be a balance, but I think it's good to go to an event a quarter, at least a couple events a year.
00:01:58
Speaker
These are things that are going to help refresh your mind, help you give you new ideas, help you connect with other people who are crushing it in the industry.
00:02:07
Speaker
And that's what you need as they say, your network determines your net worth.
00:02:11
Speaker
So you never know who you're going to meet, what that one line is that you're going to learn it that's going to help you take it to the next level.
00:02:18
Speaker
If you haven't been to any events or if you don't know why you should go to events, we actually did a show on this probably six, seven months ago, a little while ago, but it's called The Importance of Live Events, I believe was the name of the episode.
00:02:36
Speaker
So go search for that if you haven't already, and we broke down just specific reasons why you should be attending events.
00:02:43
Speaker
So I'll get off the soapbox, but I wanted to give you solarepreneurs a recap, if you weren't there, of what you missed at Door-to-Door Fest 2021.

Experience at Door-to-Door Fest 2021

00:02:53
Speaker
So they've got two event, Door-to-Door Con and now Door-to-Door Fest.
00:02:58
Speaker
Not to be confused.
00:02:59
Speaker
This Door-to-Door Fest is put on by my friends Taylor McCarthy and Danny Pesci.
00:03:08
Speaker
Two guys who are doing great things for the industry, have a lot of respect for them, and both top performers in their own right.
00:03:15
Speaker
So I highly recommend their program, Noxstar, if you haven't checked that out.
00:03:19
Speaker
And we had Danny Pesci on the podcast a few weeks back.
00:03:24
Speaker
He shared some details about that and dropped some value bombs.
00:03:27
Speaker
So go listen to that episode if you haven't already.
00:03:30
Speaker
But Door to Door Fest, it was a great event.
00:03:32
Speaker
It was their first kind of big event that they put on.
00:03:36
Speaker
I mentioned I went through their NOCSTAR program.
00:03:40
Speaker
Just got through with that, so that's a great resource if you want to go try it, if you're looking for additional training.
00:03:46
Speaker
It's a great resource, and this was their big event.
00:03:48
Speaker
What I liked about it is it was very solar specific.
00:03:53
Speaker
Most of the people there were in the solar industry.
00:03:56
Speaker
Yeah, a lot of them were, in fact, guys that have been on the podcast.
00:04:00
Speaker
So if you recognize any of the names, congrats.
00:04:02
Speaker
You have been a loyal listener.
00:04:05
Speaker
Yeah, guys like Mo Fala, Ian Wendt, Chris Lee, Dwayne Richens, Zach Bassett, three people now that have been on the podcast.
00:04:19
Speaker
John Israel, anyways, we'll go through a few different people here.
00:04:23
Speaker
But some sluggers, some heavy sluggers, heavy hitters that took the stage and dropped some serious knowledge.
00:04:30
Speaker
So I'm going to break it down day by day, just give you a brief recap, hopefully give you that FOMO that you missed out, because I want to see you all at the next event.
00:04:40
Speaker
I love hanging out with peeps.
00:04:41
Speaker
I love getting introduced to loyal listeners and people who have heard the show.
00:04:46
Speaker
So if you go to these events, come up and say hi, say what's up.
00:04:50
Speaker
I love it when people do that and tell me they heard the podcast.
00:04:54
Speaker
So we went there on Thursday.
00:04:56
Speaker
The event started technically Friday and Saturday was the event.
00:05:01
Speaker
But Thursday, they call it the day in Dallas.
00:05:03
Speaker
That was kind of VIP people who wanted to spend a little bit extra and get some VIP treatment.

Training and Leisure Activities

00:05:11
Speaker
And this was awesome.
00:05:12
Speaker
I had never been to quite a pre-event event.
00:05:16
Speaker
thing going on like this so we get there we had a training in the morning good little training talked about some
00:05:24
Speaker
Sales techniques, a lot of things that you can actually go back and hear in Danny Pesce's podcast, a lot of things similar to that.
00:05:33
Speaker
Obviously, you know, extra value we heard.
00:05:36
Speaker
But we went in the morning and then where it got interesting was the afternoon.
00:05:41
Speaker
So we go and we're supposed to take buses to go do some margarita tasting.
00:05:46
Speaker
I don't drink, so for me it was just going to be kind of hanging out and watching everyone just slush down these margaritas.
00:05:53
Speaker
But it's all cool.
00:05:54
Speaker
I'm fine with that, seeing people slurp down their margaritas.
00:05:58
Speaker
We went and we're all sitting outside waiting for the buses to come and they never show up.
00:06:03
Speaker
So we sit for like 30, 40 minutes and I guess they got the wrong hotel.
00:06:09
Speaker
So we're all hanging out there, just shooting the breeze and hanging out.
00:06:14
Speaker
But made for some good networking.
00:06:16
Speaker
That was the first event in the afternoon.
00:06:18
Speaker
So we actually skipped the margaritas, which...
00:06:21
Speaker
I was like, whatever, because I was going to give my margaritas to my buddy Rick anyways.

Tour of AT&T Stadium

00:06:27
Speaker
So then when the buses finally show up, we go to the next event, which was touring the stadium of the Dallas Cowboys, which was dope.
00:06:37
Speaker
I'd never done an NFL stadium tour, and this place is amazing.
00:06:41
Speaker
If you haven't looked it up, go look up a...
00:06:44
Speaker
I think it's AT&T Stadium is what it's called.
00:06:47
Speaker
This place can literally fit the Statue of Liberty inside it and still have, I think it was 20 feet of space before it hits the top of the stadium.
00:06:56
Speaker
Just a massive stadium.
00:06:57
Speaker
And what was neat is they were actually getting ready for the Canelo fight, the boxer, Mexican boxer.
00:07:06
Speaker
So they were getting ready for that, just stacking chairs, setting up the ring and everything.
00:07:10
Speaker
So we got to see them actually preparing for that event, getting the big screen ready.
00:07:14
Speaker
Just a massive jumbotron they had.
00:07:19
Speaker
Yeah, just biggest screen I've ever seen, I'd say.
00:07:22
Speaker
Looked like an IMAX theater as a Jumbotron.
00:07:26
Speaker
So just massive.
00:07:28
Speaker
And then, yeah, they took us through the locker rooms, took us through to the VIP suites and everything.
00:07:33
Speaker
Got to see where all the rich people hang out, famous people.
00:07:38
Speaker
Got to see all the players' locker situations, which is cool.
00:07:42
Speaker
Never done that.
00:07:43
Speaker
Got to see like a press room.

Korean Bathhouse Experience

00:07:45
Speaker
So it was cool, and we had a little dinner there, hung out, did some more networking, and then after that gets better, we went to a Korean bathhouse.
00:07:56
Speaker
I didn't even know what this was, but if you guys haven't heard of this, go check it out.
00:08:00
Speaker
Korean bathhouses, I guess they are, I don't know how big it actually is in Korea, but...
00:08:07
Speaker
um very interesting place okay so go check it out if you haven't done one but danny pesce swears by these things as something to relax on your off days of knocking it's just basically a big bathhouse filled with a bunch of different saunas and hot and cold tubs and the idea is you just go in all these different rooms they've got like a cold sauna that's just filled with um kind of ice i guess not ice but it's blowing cold air at you it feels like you're in an igloo
00:08:36
Speaker
They've got a super hot one.
00:08:37
Speaker
They've got a salt sauna.
00:08:40
Speaker
Just anything you can think of as far as saunas go, they've got it all.
00:08:44
Speaker
And then where it got super interesting, and I was a little hesitant at first, but they have the actual bathroom where obviously, you know, separate you by gender, but you're going into your...
00:08:57
Speaker
your bathrooms and they've got a cold tub, they've got a medium tub, they've got a hot tub and they've got a scalding tub, I would call it.
00:09:09
Speaker
And to go in this bath house, whatever you want to call it, you got to be completely naked in there.
00:09:17
Speaker
So we're going in there.
00:09:18
Speaker
There's like, I don't know, 50 other guys in this.
00:09:21
Speaker
And they're like, all right, everyone pile in the bath house.
00:09:25
Speaker
Got to take your clothes off first.
00:09:26
Speaker
And I'm like, oh, shoot.
00:09:28
Speaker
Do I want to pile in the room, have all these guys see me butt naked and hang out with guys that I just barely met?
00:09:36
Speaker
And at first I'm like, uh, maybe I'll just go to the saunas first.
00:09:39
Speaker
But then we all warmed up.
00:09:40
Speaker
We're all friends.
00:09:41
Speaker
Then we piled in the bathhouse after that.
00:09:43
Speaker
We're all naked in there.
00:09:45
Speaker
No judgment in there.
00:09:46
Speaker
So it was a different experience.
00:09:47
Speaker
Took a second for me to warm up, but piled in the bathhouse and nothing better than sitting naked in a cold tub.
00:09:55
Speaker
Bunch of different guys, I guess, right?
00:09:59
Speaker
was a little, yeah, definitely an interesting experience, something I had to warm up to.
00:10:04
Speaker
But go try it.
00:10:05
Speaker
Don't knock it until you try it.
00:10:06
Speaker
I will say it was super relaxing, helped us open the pores.
00:10:10
Speaker
And ladies, there was all this stuff for the other gender too.
00:10:14
Speaker
Ladies had their own little bathhouse, had their own sections.
00:10:19
Speaker
Don't worry, guys, they weren't combining genders or anything, combining the bathhouses.
00:10:24
Speaker
But it definitely opened up the pores.
00:10:25
Speaker
You definitely felt like you had some new skin slapped on you.
00:10:29
Speaker
and was a great experience.
00:10:31
Speaker
I can see how it's relaxing.
00:10:33
Speaker
So go Google it.
00:10:34
Speaker
If you have a bathhouse in your area, I would highly recommend it.
00:10:37
Speaker
If you're looking for something different to do, something to relax you on your off days of knocking, especially if you're a summer rep, something like that, and you're grinding super hard, I would suggest going and checking these out because...
00:10:49
Speaker
was definitely relaxing.
00:10:51
Speaker
So that was day one.
00:10:52
Speaker
We went and hung out, did the day in Dallas, toured the city, toured the stadium, I should say, and then went to the bathhouse.
00:11:00
Speaker
Good time.
00:11:02
Speaker
And then after that, just to give a brief rec, that was what I thought was really cool.
00:11:08
Speaker
I never had been to an event quite like that or touring stadiums and going to Korean bathhouses.
00:11:15
Speaker
But then after that, yeah, you had the events, the speakers.
00:11:19
Speaker
And again, like I mentioned, what was really cool about this is they had solar-specific speakers.

Insights from Industry Speakers

00:11:25
Speaker
And this is something I would suggest.
00:11:27
Speaker
Anytime you're going to an event, do some research on it.
00:11:30
Speaker
Look at the speakers.
00:11:32
Speaker
Look at who's going to be there.
00:11:34
Speaker
If you can, figure out maybe some other attendees, stuff like that.
00:11:38
Speaker
Figure out who you want to network with because these are things that are going to help you maximize your time in the event.
00:11:45
Speaker
So for me, that was a big factor in me actually deciding to go to the events.
00:11:49
Speaker
I was sort of on the fence, I'll admit, didn't know if I should go, didn't know if I should take the time off.
00:11:54
Speaker
But when I saw the speakers, when I saw, especially the solar-specific guys, I'm like, all right, I can't miss out on this.
00:12:02
Speaker
And that's one way you can determine if it's worth your time going to things like that.
00:12:07
Speaker
Okay, but yeah, recap on the speakers.
00:12:10
Speaker
Mo spoke, Mo Fala, who we had on the podcast.
00:12:13
Speaker
He just spoke about his origins, very similar to what he talked about in the podcast.
00:12:19
Speaker
And then he just broke it down to really the grit, the determination you need to have to succeed in your business.
00:12:26
Speaker
And also about importance of setting up systems, importance of...
00:12:33
Speaker
setting up a SOP standard operating procedures in your business and with your team.
00:12:41
Speaker
So that was the highlight of him.
00:12:42
Speaker
We had an Ian Wendt speak, which these are all, you should be following these people on social media, by the way.
00:12:48
Speaker
If you're not following Mo, if you're not following, so that's something I'll invite you to go, go look up door-to-door fest.
00:12:54
Speaker
I would follow all these speakers because guys, this is how you're going to increase your knowledge.
00:12:59
Speaker
Follow the best of the best.
00:13:01
Speaker
If you want to get better at something specific, then you go follow the best.
00:13:05
Speaker
And that's what this podcast is about, is we're surrounding you with the best people in the solar industry.
00:13:11
Speaker
But also we're inviting you to go follow these people, see what they're posting, see what is making them successful.
00:13:17
Speaker
Because a lot of these guys are given free value, are given awesome golden nuggets every day.
00:13:22
Speaker
So you need to be following them.
00:13:25
Speaker
Ian Wendt, he spoke about the importance of knowing different customer types.
00:13:29
Speaker
And we're actually going to have him on the show here soon, do some podcasts on this.
00:13:34
Speaker
So we're going to do a recap of that, so stay tuned.
00:13:37
Speaker
But that's something you should definitely consider.
00:13:40
Speaker
What are your different buyer types?
00:13:41
Speaker
Are people aggressive?
00:13:43
Speaker
Are people calm?
00:13:44
Speaker
Is an old lady?
00:13:45
Speaker
You need to be able to identify these buyer types and change and transform.
00:13:49
Speaker
You need to be a chameleon out there, adjust to these different types of buyers.
00:13:54
Speaker
So that was his.
00:13:54
Speaker
And then Chris Lee had him also on the podcast.
00:13:58
Speaker
Actually one of our first interviews that we did on the show.
00:14:03
Speaker
Go listen to that.
00:14:04
Speaker
But he has a super successful business in Solgen up in Washington State.
00:14:11
Speaker
He talked about his beginnings in the business and in the industry.
00:14:16
Speaker
Zach Bassett, of course, spoke about the financial stuff.
00:14:19
Speaker
He was on the podcast.
00:14:22
Speaker
Surge creator, social media guy.
00:14:24
Speaker
And then one of my favorites, if not my favorite of them, was John Israel.

The Gratitude Project by John Israel

00:14:30
Speaker
I'm hoping to get him on the show here soon, too.
00:14:33
Speaker
that's pending but if you haven't heard of john israel this is another guy you should look up follow on social media buy his book what he did if you're not familiar he wrote five thank you cards every day for 365 days he did kind of an insane challenge if you think about it and the rules of it are where he couldn't write more than three thank you cards to the same person he did that for a year straight
00:14:59
Speaker
and changed his life while he's doing it has some amazing stories of just the people he inspired just the gratitude that came from what his challenge was and all the people that hadn't even a lot of people didn't even get thank you cards like this really in their lives and he wrote them cards and really inspired a lot of people
00:15:23
Speaker
These are just a few of the speakers.
00:15:25
Speaker
I don't want to go on and on forever with all of them, but that's the recap.
00:15:29
Speaker
That's the highlights.
00:15:30
Speaker
Again, we're going to be getting a lot of these guys on the podcast.
00:15:33
Speaker
A lot of them have already been on the show.
00:15:36
Speaker
Guys, go to events like this.
00:15:38
Speaker
Look at ones you can attend.
00:15:40
Speaker
I would definitely suggest going to things like this.
00:15:43
Speaker
We're hoping to do some events.
00:15:45
Speaker
Solar Preneur.
00:15:46
Speaker
So hit me up, shoot me a message if you would like to see a solopreneur event, something we're considering doing and would be awesome.
00:15:55
Speaker
Hang out with everybody.
00:15:56
Speaker
Okay, so go share this with someone that missed out on door-to-door fest.
00:16:01
Speaker
And if you ever come to the next one, I'll be going to the majority of these events.
00:16:06
Speaker
So hit me up if you are going, would love to connect with y'all.
00:16:09
Speaker
And don't forget, increase your knowledge and make sure to apply because knowledge without applications is useless.
00:16:17
Speaker
That's why you don't get caught in the trap of going to event after event and not applying because that is how you will waste time and money.
00:16:23
Speaker
Trust me, it's happened to me a lot.
00:16:26
Speaker
So thanks for tuning in.
00:16:27
Speaker
We'll see you on the next episode and close some deals this week.
00:16:30
Speaker
Keep crushing.
00:16:32
Speaker
Hey

Introducing Sol Society

00:16:33
Speaker
SolarPrinters, quick question.
00:16:34
Speaker
What if you could surround yourself with the industry's top performing sales pros, marketers, and CEOs and learn from their experience and wisdom in less than 20 minutes a day?
