Introduction and Sponsor Shoutouts

00:00:06
Speaker
Thanks for tuning in to the Loser Kid Pinball Podcast.
00:00:09
Speaker
We are on episode 58.
00:00:10
Speaker
I am Josh Roop.
00:00:13
Speaker
With me, my co-captain as always.
00:00:15
Speaker
Scott Larson.
00:00:16
Speaker
And Scott, we have some wonderful guests on this evening.
00:00:19
Speaker
Wonderful.
00:00:19
Speaker
It's wonderful.
00:00:20
Speaker
You know it.
00:00:21
Speaker
But before we do that, let's hurry and talk about our friends of the podcast really quick.
00:00:25
Speaker
All right.
00:00:26
Speaker
So for the next five minutes, strap yourself in.
00:00:28
Speaker
Let's talk about the friends.
00:00:29
Speaker
Okay.
00:00:30
Speaker
First and foremost, flipping out pinball.
00:00:32
Speaker
If you want to pick up that new pinball machine, you're a little bored at
00:00:36
Speaker
being home on your COVID year.
00:00:39
Speaker
Now it's time to celebrate with a new Avengers Infinity Quest or a Jurassic Park or even a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
00:00:47
Speaker
Contact Zach and Nicola at Flippin' Out Pinball.
00:00:50
Speaker
They will be able to hook you

Sponsorship and Pinball Machine Deals

00:00:52
Speaker
up.
00:00:52
Speaker
Also, if you're really curious about the
00:00:55
Speaker
Top five things in pinball.
00:00:56
Speaker
The best thing to do is go over to This Week in Pinball.
00:00:59
Speaker
Jeff Patterson's site has a nice summary.
00:01:01
Speaker
They just barely celebrated their Twippy Award show.
00:01:05
Speaker
And so go ahead and check out those winners.
00:01:08
Speaker
Also, Pinball Supernova is another resource for you.
00:01:11
Speaker
Go check it out.
00:01:11
Speaker
There's some links to different things and tutorials and also some, I think I just got a fax or something.
00:01:23
Speaker
Okay.
00:01:24
Speaker
Now that the faxes are in, we just check out Pinball Supernova.
00:01:28
Speaker
They have a lot of resources there and good way to hook you up.
00:01:31
Speaker
Also, Flyland Designs, if you want to check out alternative trance lights and art packages for those classic Williams Valley games.
00:01:40
Speaker
I actually just picked up some art blades for my Medieval Madness.
00:01:45
Speaker
And so it's a good way of giving a fresh look at your old pinball machine.
00:01:50
Speaker
Also, if you want to display those trans lights on the wall and you want a fun way of doing it, go ahead and check out Brad Hunter at Lit Frames.
00:01:58
Speaker
It's a good way of throwing in those trans lights that are just collecting dust and you're tired of hauling them to shows to get signatures.
00:02:05
Speaker
If you want to see your pinball on location a little easier, check out Pinshades.
00:02:10
Speaker
They have polarized lenses that help you see all the way to the back of the playfield, kids.
00:02:15
Speaker
So that actually helps us take some good on-site pinball playing.
00:02:21
Speaker
Next, Rayday Pinball.
00:02:23
Speaker
If you want to learn how to play that pinball machine, you can go ahead and check out Raymond.
00:02:28
Speaker
He's kind of good, currently world number one.
00:02:32
Speaker
Also, the Pinball Loft, check it out.
00:02:35
Speaker
It's my friend's blog about his machines.
00:02:39
Speaker
And if you want to know a way to really upscale your Guns N' Roses Collector's Edition, he actually found a way to add even more sound to his Guns N' Roses Pinball Collector's Edition.
00:02:53
Speaker
I think his goes to 11.
00:02:55
Speaker
And, oh, also we have a streamer on.
00:03:01
Speaker
Hey, Josh, who's the new streamer on board?
00:03:04
Speaker
Is it us?
00:03:05
Speaker
Oh, it's us.
00:03:06
Speaker
Well, it's really you, but go ahead.
00:03:09
Speaker
I've only done three episodes.
00:03:10
Speaker
And honestly, you know, just subscribe to us.
00:03:14
Speaker
We may or may not do more.
00:03:15
Speaker
I don't know.
00:03:16
Speaker
I'm having fun with it, but it's... He's going to do it.
00:03:18
Speaker
He's totally going to do it.
00:03:19
Speaker
He's got the fun.
00:03:20
Speaker
All right, Josh, who do we have with us today?

Meet Franchi Christian and Mrs. Penn

00:03:23
Speaker
Well, I'm super excited to have these guests on today.
00:03:27
Speaker
You may say they're awesome.
00:03:28
Speaker
They are very awesome.
00:03:30
Speaker
I know a lot of people are very upset.
00:03:32
Speaker
I know that when we did Pinball Players podcast, Joe Lemire was crying on the other end as we talked about this wonderful... You don't even call them a podcast, right?
00:03:41
Speaker
It was a show.
00:03:42
Speaker
It was a legit produced show.
00:03:43
Speaker
It was a production.
00:03:46
Speaker
We want to welcome them on now.
00:03:48
Speaker
We've got Franchi Christian and his wonderful wife, Mrs. Penn, Sarah.
00:03:52
Speaker
How are you guys doing?
00:03:53
Speaker
Hello.
00:03:54
Speaker
Hey.
00:03:54
Speaker
I'm totally lost.
00:03:56
Speaker
You said, I thought you were doing like a last name comma first name.
00:04:00
Speaker
So Franchi comma Christian is, so Mrs. Penn, are you married to Franchi?
00:04:07
Speaker
Is this how this works?
00:04:08
Speaker
That's not how this works.
00:04:10
Speaker
Oh, okay.
00:04:13
Speaker
Do I need to do full titles?
00:04:15
Speaker
Oh, no.
00:04:16
Speaker
I need to demand full disclosure here.
00:04:18
Speaker
How much money do you guys actually make per episode off of these sponsors?
00:04:23
Speaker
That was a lot of sponsors.
00:04:25
Speaker
That was a lot of sponsors.
00:04:26
Speaker
You know, the good news is, is I've been able to get new pinball machines.
00:04:30
Speaker
And so that's what I'm funding my, my addiction with.
00:04:33
Speaker
So.
00:04:33
Speaker
All right.
00:04:34
Speaker
If you get something, that's cool.
00:04:35
Speaker
Fair enough.
00:04:36
Speaker
Yeah.
00:04:37
Speaker
And might I say that it's a great pleasure to be here.
00:04:40
Speaker
I always wanted to know what it's like to be on an award-winning podcast.
00:04:44
Speaker
Oh.
00:04:45
Speaker
Ouch.
00:04:46
Speaker
Congratulations, though.
00:04:48
Speaker
In all seriousness, though, you guys deserve that award.

Podcast Awards and Community Contributions

00:04:52
Speaker
Well, what's funny is I never โ€“ like up against you guys, like the criteria that they gave, it was funny because like I didn't believe we were going to win because you guys had done such an awesome job.
00:05:03
Speaker
You'd done your Christmas show.
00:05:04
Speaker
I mean there was so much in-depth to your guys' show.
00:05:07
Speaker
It was a fully produced โ€“
00:05:09
Speaker
show.
00:05:10
Speaker
There's no other way to put it.
00:05:11
Speaker
I don't even like calling it a podcast because I feel like podcast doesn't give the name justice.
00:05:16
Speaker
So when they said that we had won, I was so confused because I thought it was you guys.
00:05:20
Speaker
Well, you guys are awesome ambassadors for the hobby.
00:05:22
Speaker
I think you've done amazing shows.
00:05:25
Speaker
You're great people in general, and you've had some really phenomenal guests on.
00:05:30
Speaker
And handsome, though.
00:05:31
Speaker
And you're handsome.
00:05:32
Speaker
You are.
00:05:33
Speaker
And it goes a long way.
00:05:35
Speaker
And if there was an award for the most epic fashion line, you would definitely win that too.
00:05:40
Speaker
Okay, that is absolutely true.
00:05:43
Speaker
And we have limited edition car wraps that are coming out.
00:05:46
Speaker
And so if you want to lose your kid's car, you'll be able to get that.
00:05:49
Speaker
I want action figures.
00:05:51
Speaker
Wait, I just have to tell you guys.
00:05:52
Speaker
Can I interrupt for one second?
00:05:54
Speaker
Yes, go for it.
00:05:55
Speaker
It was very, very nice.
00:05:56
Speaker
By the way, this is Mrs. Pin from Mrs. Pin's Pinball Podcast.
00:05:59
Speaker
I mean, I'm the only woman on the podcast.
00:06:01
Speaker
So I think they've got it.
00:06:04
Speaker
I think they've got it.
00:06:04
Speaker
But so anyway, so you sent us these Loser Kid t-shirts, the red ones and red and black with the white logo on them.
00:06:12
Speaker
And I have since stolen...
00:06:16
Speaker
my husband's.
00:06:17
Speaker
Yeah.
00:06:17
Speaker
It's all true.
00:06:18
Speaker
And legitimately get very, very angry and upset whenever it is dirty.
00:06:24
Speaker
She lives in this shirt.
00:06:26
Speaker
Like this is her go-to shirt.

Lighthearted Stories and Camaraderie

00:06:28
Speaker
Oh my God.
00:06:28
Speaker
My all time fave.
00:06:30
Speaker
Okay.
00:06:31
Speaker
Is it like a dress down day?
00:06:32
Speaker
Like the three quarter?
00:06:33
Speaker
Yes.
00:06:34
Speaker
Yes.
00:06:35
Speaker
Yeah.
00:06:36
Speaker
Okay, but also, you guys did some reciprocity and you sent me back a boatload of Loser Kids swag with some super awesome pinball and some Mrs. Pin stuff.
00:06:48
Speaker
So I think that we've done a pretty good job about exchanging the swag.
00:06:53
Speaker
Yeah.
00:06:54
Speaker
It's important.
00:06:55
Speaker
The most awesome part of that was this shirt picture that we got from you with you rocking the tank top that we sent to your wife.
00:07:04
Speaker
And you've got a much larger build than she does.
00:07:06
Speaker
So you were bulging out of this thing and you sent us a picture of it and it was phenomenal.
00:07:11
Speaker
Okay, here's the best part about it is that.
00:07:15
Speaker
I put it on and took the picture in my mind.
00:07:19
Speaker
I was thinking of like like an awkward wrestler pose.
00:07:23
Speaker
You remember in like the 80s and 90s how
00:07:26
Speaker
you would go and work out and you had to have a shirt on.
00:07:29
Speaker
So I have no idea where these muscle guys got the idea for this, for the shirt, but it was like this string bikini type thing with this loose thing.
00:07:39
Speaker
So I thought it'd be fun to take a picture and send it.
00:07:41
Speaker
And I showed up from my office.
00:07:42
Speaker
She's like, what is wrong with you?
00:07:44
Speaker
What did you do?
00:07:45
Speaker
Cause it seriously looks like it doesn't even look like, like a sexy picture.
00:07:50
Speaker
It just looks like a really awesome fail.
00:07:54
Speaker
from my, I don't know, my online profile for dating is like, yeah, I'm working out and people are like, oh, swipe left.
00:08:03
Speaker
It should be.
00:08:04
Speaker
Swipe left, yeah.
00:08:06
Speaker
No, it was a great picture though.
00:08:07
Speaker
We love it.
00:08:07
Speaker
It was, it really was.
00:08:08
Speaker
That could be like awkward family photos, you know, that line of cards that they have at like Target.
00:08:12
Speaker
You could totally, totally sell it to them.
00:08:16
Speaker
Like live in the stud life.
00:08:17
Speaker
That's what it would say.
00:08:18
Speaker
Yes, yes.

Future of Franchi and Christian's Show

00:08:20
Speaker
Somebody's got to do it in that tank top.
00:08:24
Speaker
You guys got to agree, though, like the super awesome pinball like T-shirt line is amazing.
00:08:28
Speaker
These these themes that Franchi's coming up with for like the monthly silver ball swag stuff is awesome as well.
00:08:35
Speaker
I'm apparently trying too hard.
00:08:36
Speaker
I just need to draw a circle with a line through it.
00:08:41
Speaker
you know what maybe josh can give you some lessons on art yeah yeah i'd appreciate that because our yeah our our sportswear line needs a shot in the arm well yeah the t-shirt line is fun because it gives me a chance to do some pinball related stuff that's not necessarily pimping the the brand um
00:09:03
Speaker
But we should really sort of get into that so that some of this stuff might make more sense because I'm kind of dancing around a little bit of subject here.
00:09:12
Speaker
You know, if you guys want to talk about me.
00:09:13
Speaker
All right, go ahead and talk about the floor.
00:09:16
Speaker
The floor is yours.
00:09:18
Speaker
No, I want you to ask me a question, damn it.
00:09:20
Speaker
Okay, tell me about your swag.
00:09:23
Speaker
Not the swag.
00:09:24
Speaker
How can I get your face on my shirt?
00:09:25
Speaker
Okay.
00:09:29
Speaker
Invite me over and give me a bottle of rum.
00:09:33
Speaker
Salt.
00:09:35
Speaker
No, the, the, the, you know, Christian and I sort of need to clear the air on what is going on with the show because it's not actually necessarily dead.
00:09:47
Speaker
Um, and Christian and I have, have kind of been going back and forth on this as to how to do it.
00:09:53
Speaker
I wanted to do it weeks ago and he's like, no, no, no, let's just wait.
00:09:57
Speaker
And I'm like, yeah, but people think we're just done and gone.
00:09:59
Speaker
And then like when we come back, you know, you know, a month and a half later, they're going to be like, oh, you guys are dicks, you know?
00:10:05
Speaker
So, uh, so yeah, we kind of need to clear the air on what's going on.
00:10:09
Speaker
What we decided to do is quit

Challenges of Quality Podcasting

00:10:11
Speaker
doing, um,
00:10:12
Speaker
the weekly show or the bi-weekly show because it was just too much.
00:10:17
Speaker
Um, I'm like a perfectionist and I, I can't, you know, what, what, what you see is, is, is what I do.
00:10:25
Speaker
You know, the show that you've heard is what I do.
00:10:27
Speaker
I can't do less because I just nitpick crap until I get it to where I want.
00:10:32
Speaker
So I already know I can't do a scaled down show.
00:10:35
Speaker
And I just don't have time to keep doing all of this work.
00:10:39
Speaker
And even Christian will agree that it was taken away from his family time too much as well.
00:10:46
Speaker
So what we decided to do was when, do you remember the Guns N' Roses show that we did?
00:10:52
Speaker
Yes.
00:10:53
Speaker
How could you forget that one?
00:10:55
Speaker
Well, JJP actually came to us and asked if we would do that.
00:10:58
Speaker
Well, what we decided to do is that we're going to stop doing things
00:11:02
Speaker
the shows where we talk about the news and everything else, because you, you can get that anywhere.
00:11:08
Speaker
And we're, we're just going to do a show every time a new game comes out.
00:11:13
Speaker
And it's going to be like that.
00:11:14
Speaker
So the whole show is going to be focused around the release of that game.
00:11:17
Speaker
We're going to have the people on the designers, you know, the artists, whatnot, and just do a show about that.
00:11:23
Speaker
When the game comes out, in some cases it'll be at the same time in Stern cases, it will be a little bit afterwards.
00:11:30
Speaker
Um,
00:11:31
Speaker
But that's basically what we're going to do.
00:11:33
Speaker
And we're also talking about doing some other one-off different things.
00:11:40
Speaker
One of the things that I'm going to do is a fireside chat show, which would be about 60 minutes long.
00:11:47
Speaker
And it's going to be, you know, with people from the pinball industry, but it's not going to be so much an interview is it's going to be a conversation.
00:11:59
Speaker
Kind of like the stern insider, but not behind a paywall, right?
00:12:03
Speaker
Right.
00:12:03
Speaker
Yes, exactly.
00:12:04
Speaker
Because, you know, yeah, we don't believe in the paywall.
00:12:07
Speaker
We've never gotten a nickel for doing any of this stuff.
00:12:10
Speaker
I want to know when your Deep Rit episode's coming out.
00:12:14
Speaker
I want to know about Raza.
00:12:15
Speaker
When's the Raza episode coming out?
00:12:17
Speaker
Yeah, I'm on the same boat as you are, Scott, about Deep Rit, but I was always kind of...
00:12:25
Speaker
held back by Ed when Ed was on our show because Deep Root sponsored our show.
00:12:30
Speaker
So I would literally go off on 20-minute tirades and at the end of the show, Ed would be mega pissed and tell me that I have to cut that out.
00:12:38
Speaker
And I did.
00:12:39
Speaker
Understandably.
00:12:40
Speaker
Understandably.
00:12:41
Speaker
Right.
00:12:41
Speaker
I mean, another thing we wanted to do with our show is not be the Kaneda, like not go out there and just be sensationalistic and try and, you know, talk about drama for drama's sake.
00:12:52
Speaker
We wanted to try and be...
00:12:54
Speaker
You know, open to everybody and not necessarily, you know, be a yes man, but be a positive force on the on the podcast community and and and just not try to stay away from negative stuff because I try to keep my drama level to an absolute minimum.
00:13:10
Speaker
So I'm happy that this.
00:13:13
Speaker
new direction of the show is, is just, you know, what's exciting, what's new, what's fresh.
00:13:17
Speaker
If there is a, you know, if there's a new game reveal or there's something really cool to talk about, we'll come back and do a special show, but it's not like an every two week kind of thing.

Balancing Podcasting and Personal Life

00:13:27
Speaker
Um, because you know, there were plenty of moments where Chris and I would, would be on the phone together and we would say,
00:13:32
Speaker
all right, what are we going to do?
00:13:33
Speaker
What's our next show?
00:13:35
Speaker
Who's on our guest list and who's on our wish list?
00:13:38
Speaker
And it was tough to sit there.
00:13:39
Speaker
Too much pressure.
00:13:40
Speaker
It was too much pressure.
00:13:41
Speaker
We didn't want that timeline.
00:13:43
Speaker
We wanted to just do it when it was fun.
00:13:45
Speaker
And I think that's kind of what we're moving towards now.
00:13:47
Speaker
So it may not be every month.
00:13:49
Speaker
It may not be every two months.
00:13:50
Speaker
But when we do it, it'll be for a good reason.
00:13:53
Speaker
And it's going to be awesome.
00:13:55
Speaker
Yeah.
00:13:56
Speaker
Yeah.
00:13:56
Speaker
It'll be super awesome.
00:13:57
Speaker
Super awesome.
00:13:58
Speaker
Yes, it will.
00:13:58
Speaker
Super awesome.
00:13:59
Speaker
And Chris is just a creative dude, right?
00:14:02
Speaker
He excels at just being creative.
00:14:04
Speaker
So I'm excited to see what he does because he's got a bunch of ideas that he wants to put out there on the airwaves.
00:14:10
Speaker
He just did like a radio show and he's got this fireside chat, like one hour kind of interview thing that he's doing.
00:14:16
Speaker
So there's going to be a lot of cool stuff coming from the podcast moving forward, just not on a regular timeline.
00:14:23
Speaker
Honestly, reading all your guys' posts and whatnot, I mean, I guess you could take it.
00:14:28
Speaker
I think the gravestone was the thing that people thought you guys were dead because, you know, that relates to death.
00:14:34
Speaker
But I think a lot of it, the way I viewed it is you guys were getting super busy.
00:14:39
Speaker
I know that.
00:14:40
Speaker
You've talked about, Franchi, you've talked about the different projects you've now been associated with between American Pinball and with CGC.
00:14:47
Speaker
And not talking to them specifically, but just generalizing, saying, hey, I'm doing more and more projects now.
00:14:54
Speaker
And my main work supersedes this because it's a free show that you put a lot of time into.
00:15:02
Speaker
And we all, at least Scott knows how anesthesiologist stuff goes.
00:15:06
Speaker
And, and my cousin's a teacher, so I know how busy that can be, Sarah, especially during all this pandemic stuff too.
00:15:11
Speaker
It's been a rough year.
00:15:12
Speaker
Not going to lie.
00:15:14
Speaker
Yep.
00:15:14
Speaker
Yeah.
00:15:15
Speaker
It was, it was tough to squeeze in.
00:15:17
Speaker
And you know, there was, I'm not going to candy coat things either.
00:15:20
Speaker
There was a lot of negative things that, uh, I, I could not, I don't know why, but for some reason I cannot achieve the thickness of thick skin that I need to do this.
00:15:35
Speaker
And when we take, you know, when I know the amount of effort that Christian and I put into the show and taking, getting pot shots taken at us for doing it, you know, a lot of times I just, you know, I couldn't just sit back and go out, whatever, you know, some, sorry, I swore.
00:15:51
Speaker
You're fine.
00:15:51
Speaker
You're fine.
00:15:52
Speaker
You know, some people are just jerks and that's just the way it goes.
00:15:55
Speaker
You have to learn to live with it.
00:15:56
Speaker
You know, when it gets to be, you know, this is right around the time when we decided to cash in is around the time of Twippy voting, you know,
00:16:04
Speaker
And we put together sort of a very modest little campaign
00:16:11
Speaker
Because when you're up for an award, you want to let people know.
00:16:14
Speaker
There's no crime.
00:16:15
Speaker
There's no shame in saying, hey, there's an award for best podcast, and here's what we've done.
00:16:21
Speaker
If we've earned your vote, vote for your favorite.
00:16:25
Speaker
Hopefully it's us.
00:16:26
Speaker
That's the way we kind of approached our campaign.
00:16:29
Speaker
And we were taking shots left and right from people that we were begging for votes.
00:16:34
Speaker
And then there's a lot of lies of things that we did that we didn't do.
00:16:37
Speaker
We literally just put one post out and then just got bombarded.
00:16:42
Speaker
Listen, for me, for me, it was never a I was never sensitive about that stuff.
00:16:48
Speaker
But I did appreciate that for the amount of time you guys know how much time it takes to put into a podcast and make it good.
00:16:56
Speaker
Like you want to you want to put out a product, a product that is representative of how much time you put into the show.
00:17:02
Speaker
And we put a ton of time into it.
00:17:04
Speaker
And so it was tough.
00:17:06
Speaker
I think it was especially tough for Franchi because he put so much work into it and he didn't like to hear negative comments about anything that we did because, listen, we're doing it for free.
00:17:18
Speaker
We're trying to produce something that's for everyone and is entertaining and we're trying to get good guests.
00:17:26
Speaker
positive show and stay positive yeah but but it was i think it was it was tough and i i totally appreciate that it was hard uh to hear that criticism for me in one ear out the other but but that's part of kind of how i roll i don't want to get brought down by any of that drama i just try to keep it out of my life well and from our perspective too it's really hard because there is a weirdly amount of taboo around twippy voting um
00:17:56
Speaker
I know during our time, so when the pre-voting had started, I had lost a really close friend.
00:18:03
Speaker
She was young.
00:18:04
Speaker
She left behind a two-year-old daughter.
00:18:06
Speaker
She was going through a divorce.
00:18:07
Speaker
So things just got so messy so quick.
00:18:12
Speaker
And Scott and I had just been like, life's more important right now.
00:18:17
Speaker
And we just kind of stepped away for a second.
00:18:20
Speaker
We still did the 50th episode, whatnot that month.
00:18:22
Speaker
But I was just, I was so preoccupied with other things.
00:18:25
Speaker
So I wasn't super shocked.
00:18:28
Speaker
when people had had message or when we got the message that we hadn't made the top 10.
00:18:33
Speaker
And that's a great point, man, because honestly, when it comes down to it, it's a pinball podcast, which is so silly in and of itself.
00:18:40
Speaker
And for you and us, it is a very real thing because it's part of our lives and it's an important part of our lives.
00:18:47
Speaker
But it's such a blip on the radar screen of what's important in life.
00:18:52
Speaker
And so we have to keep that in mind.
00:18:54
Speaker
And that's why I try never to get emotional about it because it's just not worth it.
00:18:59
Speaker
Um, and, and why we're kind of doing what we're doing now, which is try to do it when it's fun and when it's worthwhile and just turn out all of the other noise that's out there and try and not let it get to us.
00:19:11
Speaker
Shut it.
00:19:11
Speaker
Yeah.
00:19:12
Speaker
Yeah.
00:19:12
Speaker
You know, you know, the one thing that really burned my ass is when we put up that, that, uh,
00:19:18
Speaker
that gravestone picture, which was really kind of, it was kind of premature.
00:19:22
Speaker
Like, I don't think I even talked to Christian about it yet.
00:19:25
Speaker
That's kind of how you roll Chris.
00:19:26
Speaker
That's kind of how you roll.
00:19:28
Speaker
Yeah.
00:19:28
Speaker
Well, cause I knew he would be for it.
00:19:30
Speaker
I knew he was having trouble.
00:19:31
Speaker
He was having trouble telling me, I could sense that he wanted to say, dude, like, I just don't have time for this.
00:19:38
Speaker
We need to, we need to, you know, something needs to give here.
00:19:41
Speaker
But when we put the tombstone picture up and then you guys shared that picture with,
00:19:47
Speaker
And then you put like a mopey face on it or something.
00:19:50
Speaker
And some commented on it.
00:19:52
Speaker
And he just wrote me like that kind of just scorches my ass.
00:19:57
Speaker
Cause it's like all the work that we put into it.
00:19:59
Speaker
And then you're saying, you know, Oh, you know, our friends podcast is, is, you know, gone.
00:20:05
Speaker
And we're so sad.
00:20:06
Speaker
And these guys are like me, like what man, if I could kick somebody in the nuts.
00:20:11
Speaker
Oh God.
00:20:12
Speaker
I hate people.
00:20:15
Speaker
It's not worth your time.
00:20:16
Speaker
Like, that's my whole thing.
00:20:18
Speaker
If somebody doesn't like me and they don't want to listen to me, then they don't have to.
00:20:22
Speaker
And if I go on a six-month hiatus because I'm totally drowning in, you know, third grade, then, you know...
00:20:32
Speaker
It is what it is.
00:20:33
Speaker
Again, this is nobody's career.
00:20:35
Speaker
So you just got to let it go.
00:20:37
Speaker
I was brought up with the, if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.
00:20:40
Speaker
I don't know why people can't subscribe to that.
00:20:42
Speaker
They just take the chance.
00:20:44
Speaker
And that guy probably listened to our show too.
00:20:45
Speaker
Just like, I'm just going to be a dick.
00:20:47
Speaker
There.
00:20:48
Speaker
He's probably going to get pissed when he sees that now.
00:20:52
Speaker
Sarah, all I can say is you keep trying.
00:20:54
Speaker
You'll, you'll graduate third grade in no time.
00:20:57
Speaker
I know.
00:20:57
Speaker
I'm so excited.
00:20:58
Speaker
I just feel like I'm so close.
00:21:00
Speaker
It's like 37 days away and I just really can't wait.
00:21:03
Speaker
Yeah.
00:21:04
Speaker
This has been the hardest year for a lot of people, but I know in my wife's career, it's been definitely the hardest year.
00:21:11
Speaker
Oh, like times a thousand.
00:21:13
Speaker
Times a million.
00:21:13
Speaker
I mean, Scott, you and I know how much time goes into being a physician.
00:21:18
Speaker
There's no question in my mind that Sarah works harder than I do.
00:21:21
Speaker
And she puts in way more hours than I do.
00:21:24
Speaker
So it's, you know, it's been.
00:21:26
Speaker
Just not at like 3 a.m.
00:21:28
Speaker
usually.
00:21:28
Speaker
Right.
00:21:28
Speaker
Like some occasionally at 3 a.m., not usually at 3 a.m.
00:21:31
Speaker
No epidurals, but lots of grading papers.

Amusing Medical Anecdotes

00:21:35
Speaker
He shoved a bottle where and we have to knock him out?
00:21:38
Speaker
Yeah, you have to what?
00:21:39
Speaker
Yeah.
00:21:42
Speaker
No, it's actually the worst thing is I hate being on call on Easter weekend because I did not know to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and Savior that you went out to the sand dunes and got completely drunk and then used high-powered motorized vehicles at high velocity.
00:22:00
Speaker
And the crazy thing is people get hurt doing that.
00:22:04
Speaker
But I swear Easter is the time they celebrate.
00:22:07
Speaker
Yes, yes.
00:22:07
Speaker
Yeah.
00:22:08
Speaker
Yeah.
00:22:09
Speaker
No, we've sworn our kids off of four wheelers and motorcycles, donor cycles, as you and I know them.
00:22:15
Speaker
Snowmobiles.
00:22:16
Speaker
Yes.
00:22:17
Speaker
Actually, do you know what?
00:22:18
Speaker
It's, uh, but also snowblowers.
00:22:21
Speaker
Like I get your hands off the snowblower.
00:22:24
Speaker
Oh yeah.
00:22:25
Speaker
Don't ride the snowblower, especially while you're drunk.
00:22:27
Speaker
No, no, but seriously, there is a nurse at work where I looked at her and I'm like, Hey, what happened to your finger?
00:22:33
Speaker
She's like, okay.
00:22:34
Speaker
I'm like, wait, don't tell me it was a snowblower.
00:22:36
Speaker
Oh no.
00:22:38
Speaker
Yep.
00:22:39
Speaker
Yep.
00:22:39
Speaker
Snowblower got jammed.
00:22:41
Speaker
In central Pennsylvania, we have a Stoltzfus trauma scale because we have a lot of Amish out here and there's a ton of Amish trauma that comes into the hospital.
00:22:52
Speaker
Lots of hay holes.
00:22:54
Speaker
You probably don't know what that is, but watch out for the hay hole.
00:22:59
Speaker
Is that like where the pitchfork goes through their leg or something?
00:23:04
Speaker
No.
00:23:05
Speaker
It's literally the second floor of the barn when you fall through the hole.
00:23:08
Speaker
It's where you drop the hay from the second floor of the barn, but a lot more than hay drops through that hole and people get hurt.
00:23:14
Speaker
Oh, see, I was going somewhere else.
00:23:17
Speaker
Well, my in-laws own a farm and they produce hay, but I'm like, I've never heard of the hay hole.
00:23:24
Speaker
It's a central Pennsylvania kind of thing.
00:23:29
Speaker
Okay.
00:23:29
Speaker
Well,

Sarah's Podcasting Struggles

00:23:30
Speaker
okay.
00:23:30
Speaker
Sarah, let's talk about Mrs. Penn's pinball podcast.
00:23:33
Speaker
So tell me what's going on with this.
00:23:37
Speaker
Um, so the last episode that I had was in, I think, December, right before, uh, Christian's birthday.
00:23:44
Speaker
And I have probably recorded like five hours of stuff.
00:23:50
Speaker
We were just talking about this before you guys came on.
00:23:53
Speaker
I recorded the first pin clash.
00:23:55
Speaker
I recorded at the Stern.
00:23:57
Speaker
Um, what game were they playing?
00:23:59
Speaker
Jurassic Park?
00:23:59
Speaker
Yeah, yeah.
00:24:00
Speaker
So the Stern competition where Anna Neal won, I recorded that.
00:24:03
Speaker
Oh, it was Avengers, but yeah.
00:24:04
Speaker
Oh, sorry.
00:24:05
Speaker
Yeah, yeah.
00:24:06
Speaker
I recorded like all throughout the Twippies.
00:24:09
Speaker
I recorded then and I just have not had time to like glue it all together and put it out.
00:24:15
Speaker
It's terrible.
00:24:15
Speaker
But there is a epic Iliad and Odyssey coming from Mrs. Pins Pinball Podcast when she finally gets to editing.
00:24:22
Speaker
Oh yeah.
00:24:23
Speaker
I mean, it's going to be so outdated and totally, but that's what makes it fun.
00:24:26
Speaker
Right.
00:24:26
Speaker
But you know what?
00:24:27
Speaker
It's going to be like a blast from the past a year, a year in the memory.
00:24:32
Speaker
Is it your hot take on how Jurassic park is just released?
00:24:36
Speaker
Yeah, it probably is.
00:24:37
Speaker
Pretty much, man.
00:24:38
Speaker
Probably is.
00:24:39
Speaker
Well, one of them was we recorded when Guns N' Roses came.
00:24:42
Speaker
Yes, we did.
00:24:44
Speaker
And when we got the game.
00:24:45
Speaker
And yep, yep.
00:24:47
Speaker
Those are all the things that are just sitting in the bank.
00:24:50
Speaker
But that's the beauty of podcasting, right?
00:24:51
Speaker
I mean, you just you put it out when you can and there's no there should be no rush.
00:24:55
Speaker
I mean, you guys keep to a pretty good schedule, but I don't know how you do that.
00:24:58
Speaker
You guys, pinball players.
00:25:00
Speaker
Josh is the one who calls is like, hey, you want to record this week?
00:25:03
Speaker
I'm like, oh, yeah, we should probably do that.
00:25:06
Speaker
I really enjoy this.
00:25:08
Speaker
This is part of my escape.
00:25:09
Speaker
I have a lot of life things going on.
00:25:12
Speaker
And so this is actually one of my things.
00:25:15
Speaker
That's why this is my time to goof off, I guess.
00:25:19
Speaker
And so I think that's weird because it's talking pinball.
00:25:23
Speaker
I don't mind the editing.
00:25:24
Speaker
I've done it for years.
00:25:26
Speaker
Yeah, it's not a big deal.
00:25:27
Speaker
It's good to have an outlet, right?
00:25:29
Speaker
I mean, we all have lives outside of pinball, obviously, but, you know, pinball kind of brings us together and it's something that is an escape and it's fun

Podcasting as an Escape

00:25:37
Speaker
to talk about.
00:25:37
Speaker
And if you want to put that out there for other people to listen to, then, you know, podcasting is the way to go.
00:25:43
Speaker
But it's fun.
00:25:44
Speaker
I mean, for us, I would never want to be totally out of it because it's definitely something that is exciting for us to do.
00:25:51
Speaker
And whenever Sarah, who is completely spontaneous about podcasting, takes out her phone and she looks at me and she's like, all right, I'm going to do it.
00:25:58
Speaker
I'm going to do an episode.
00:25:59
Speaker
I get excited about that, even though I'm not.
00:26:01
Speaker
That's not me.
00:26:01
Speaker
Like, I'm not a spontaneous guy.
00:26:03
Speaker
I need notes and stuff.
00:26:04
Speaker
But she I'm not smart enough to do that.
00:26:06
Speaker
I'm not smart enough to do that.
00:26:07
Speaker
I actually need some sort of bullet points to talk about.
00:26:11
Speaker
Yes.
00:26:11
Speaker
I want to I want to.
00:26:13
Speaker
point out two things.
00:26:14
Speaker
Sorry.
00:26:15
Speaker
Whenever I think of Mrs. Penn, there's two moments that stick in my mind with Mrs. Penn because I'm terrified.
00:26:22
Speaker
I've, I've followed you pretty much since the beginning.
00:26:25
Speaker
And the first one is your origin story.
00:26:28
Speaker
I love that it has to do with like, you were watching Jack danger, like Texas pinball festival.
00:26:33
Speaker
And when you tuned into his stream, he was just like eating a taco on the, on the road or something like that.
00:26:38
Speaker
It was pulled pork.
00:26:40
Speaker
Okay.
00:26:40
Speaker
Yeah.
00:26:41
Speaker
And you're like, how many people are tuned in watching this crap?
00:26:45
Speaker
I can do this.
00:26:47
Speaker
I was so angry.
00:26:48
Speaker
I really was.
00:26:48
Speaker
And like I have since, I think Jack does an incredible job.
00:26:53
Speaker
And I really do.
00:26:54
Speaker
All of his streams are incredible.
00:26:55
Speaker
Like the distance he's come since that moment.
00:26:59
Speaker
I think he was there when you watched.
00:27:00
Speaker
It's just he didn't appreciate the awesomeness because he was literally just eating a sandwich.
00:27:04
Speaker
No, well, yes, that too.
00:27:05
Speaker
But it was also because Christian had like hyped it up being like, oh, I've got this awesome thing.
00:27:10
Speaker
We're going to watch it on TV.
00:27:11
Speaker
And I was like, oh, what is it?
00:27:13
Speaker
It's a new show to binge.
00:27:14
Speaker
And then it was Jack eating pulled pork.
00:27:16
Speaker
And I was just not enthused.
00:27:19
Speaker
I kind of want some pulled pork right now.
00:27:21
Speaker
No, it sounds good.
00:27:22
Speaker
It does sound good.
00:27:23
Speaker
It does sound good.
00:27:24
Speaker
I got to smoke some pulled pork next weekend for a baby shower, but that's a different point.
00:27:30
Speaker
Nice.
00:27:31
Speaker
All right.
00:27:31
Speaker
The second moment that sticks out in my mind is that time โ€“ I can't remember if Christian was with you or not, but you both went on head-to-head, and you were just so giddy to be on that show.
00:27:41
Speaker
And then like it was surreal because like not even a year later after I started Loser Kid, we went on there.
00:27:47
Speaker
I'm like, this must have been like the way that Mrs. Penn felt because like it was just so wholesome having you on the on Head to Head.
00:27:54
Speaker
It was it was pretty cool.
00:27:55
Speaker
I think that that wholesome and me have never been in the same sentence, by the way.
00:27:59
Speaker
But I really appreciate that.
00:28:01
Speaker
I'm going to remember that.
00:28:02
Speaker
Yeah, no, going on.
00:28:03
Speaker
I feel like Head to Head was.
00:28:05
Speaker
Well, first of all, it was four o'clock in the morning when we recorded that.
00:28:09
Speaker
And, um, so I think if I was, if I was acting giddy, it was probably just exhaustion, like masked by, by caffeine, probably I'm guessing.
00:28:18
Speaker
But yeah, you know, I think it was just, I think at the time Christian was the one who was like, this is such a big deal.
00:28:25
Speaker
Oh my God.
00:28:25
Speaker
I was geeking out so hard.
00:28:26
Speaker
Oh, it's such a big deal.
00:28:28
Speaker
And I was like, well, I don't know.
00:28:29
Speaker
I mean, I'm just like here talking.
00:28:31
Speaker
I don't even know who's listening out there.
00:28:33
Speaker
And he was like, oh, it's such a big deal.
00:28:35
Speaker
Head to head.
00:28:36
Speaker
I mean, head to head was the pinball podcast at the time.
00:28:39
Speaker
And Marty and Ryan are like the best.
00:28:41
Speaker
And we still talk to them all the time.
00:28:43
Speaker
But, you know, it was like that.
00:28:45
Speaker
It was it was a moment for sure.
00:28:47
Speaker
That was what was kind of fun for me was seeing how she got into it enough to appreciate it.
00:28:53
Speaker
Like when she was on head to head, she didn't really understand what was like the gravity of that from a pinball nerd

Memorable Pinball Podcasting Moments

00:29:00
Speaker
standpoint.
00:29:00
Speaker
You know, they were the the hot podcast at the time.
00:29:03
Speaker
And I still think they're the greatest of all time.
00:29:05
Speaker
But they were they were phenomenal.
00:29:08
Speaker
And I was it was so fun to hear her on there and have them quiz her on pinball knowledge.
00:29:14
Speaker
Which she had very little.
00:29:15
Speaker
Totally crushed it.
00:29:16
Speaker
Yeah, totally crushed it.
00:29:18
Speaker
Epic fail.
00:29:18
Speaker
Chris, I don't know if you remember this, but you were on that same episode and I sent them a graphic.
00:29:26
Speaker
You were clearly the highlight of that episode in terms of like the big celebrity.
00:29:31
Speaker
But at the time, they would do Photoshop for all of their episodes where they would put heads and faces on different pictures.
00:29:37
Speaker
Yeah.
00:29:38
Speaker
So I sent a picture of Sarah's head, like a huge picture of Sarah's head.
00:29:42
Speaker
And then in a tiny little circle in the bottom right corner, it said, and also Christopher Franchi.
00:29:47
Speaker
So you guys have got to put the time there.
00:29:52
Speaker
Was that the infamous Chaloupa episode?
00:29:55
Speaker
Yes, it was.
00:29:56
Speaker
Was it?
00:29:57
Speaker
So we were like separate interviews?
00:29:59
Speaker
Yeah, it was the same episode.
00:30:00
Speaker
Yeah, spliced together.
00:30:02
Speaker
So there was like five, ten minutes and you were I think an hour and a half or something.
00:30:06
Speaker
I didn't hold a grudge.
00:30:07
Speaker
Don't worry.
00:30:09
Speaker
We used that Chalupa line at the end of our super awesome show.
00:30:13
Speaker
Yes, sir.
00:30:15
Speaker
Thanks to the head-to-head boys for allowing us to do that.
00:30:21
Speaker
Copyright.
00:30:23
Speaker
I still get comments.
00:30:24
Speaker
People still make Chalupa comments to me about that all the time.
00:30:28
Speaker
I will say, I'm jumping in on Taco Bell here.
00:30:31
Speaker
I went and I ordered Taco Bell and I got home and they forgot our two Chalupas.
00:30:38
Speaker
Totally not kidding.
00:30:39
Speaker
So, of course...
00:30:41
Speaker
me being a cheap guy i am i know it's just it's such a fail right i drove back to the restaurant and and my son my son who is in his pajamas and without any shoes on i said oh it's fine he's like can i come down i'm like yeah sure i will run in they'll hand me two chulupas they'll say hey i'm sorry dude and then i will get because everybody says dude at taco bell um right
00:31:05
Speaker
Yeah, I figure it's in the lingo.
00:31:06
Speaker
It's kind of like my pleasure at Chick-fil-A.
00:31:10
Speaker
But so he's sitting there and I walk in and like absolutely nobody is engaging to anybody.
00:31:17
Speaker
And I'm standing there for I'm not kidding for like 10 minutes.

Humorous Fast Food Experience

00:31:21
Speaker
And I say, hey, I'm
00:31:22
Speaker
Can I, I, you guys didn't give me these, these two chalupas and the dude back there says, oh, okay.
00:31:31
Speaker
And goes and talks to the other dude.
00:31:33
Speaker
And I'm waiting for another 10 minutes.
00:31:36
Speaker
So 20 minutes since I walked in to pick up my chalupas.
00:31:40
Speaker
And finally I just screamed out, is anybody here in charge?
00:31:45
Speaker
And someone came and was like, oh yeah, I'm in charge.
00:31:48
Speaker
And I said, well, okay.
00:31:49
Speaker
So I came in, I picked up my food.
00:31:52
Speaker
Now it's a half hour ago and I don't have my two chalupas.
00:31:56
Speaker
And I, I mean, are these chalupas laced with something that I don't know about?
00:32:03
Speaker
Chalupas are awesome.
00:32:04
Speaker
And finally she just said, well, there's a long line.
00:32:06
Speaker
I'm like, I should be first.
00:32:08
Speaker
I was here 30 minutes ago.
00:32:10
Speaker
Do you know who I am?
00:32:11
Speaker
Do you know what kind of podcast I have?
00:32:14
Speaker
Yeah, exactly.
00:32:15
Speaker
I've got a hat.
00:32:15
Speaker
Have you seen that, Crystal?
00:32:16
Speaker
Yeah.
00:32:18
Speaker
You should have went out on the front lawn and said, hey, you're stupid, invisible chalupas suck, dude.
00:32:23
Speaker
Yeah, you non-chalupas are terrible.
00:32:26
Speaker
No, seriously.
00:32:27
Speaker
So that Taco Bell has been banned from our eatery.
00:32:31
Speaker
At least yours is open.
00:32:32
Speaker
Like, I'm experiencing this now.
00:32:34
Speaker
People are having a hard time getting people to work at these restaurants.
00:32:37
Speaker
I'd go to, like, Taco Bell at, like, 6 in the evening, and they're like, sorry, we're closed for the night.
00:32:41
Speaker
You get that dumb little recording, like, thanks for stopping by, but you can't have anything.
00:32:45
Speaker
Yeah.
00:32:45
Speaker
I was like, what is the deal?
00:32:48
Speaker
I'm not kidding.
00:32:48
Speaker
The last four times I've been to Taco Bell, they were not open.
00:32:54
Speaker
And it was anywhere from nine in the evening until like five or six in the afternoon.
00:32:59
Speaker
See, which is so weird to me because where I live, none of the restaurants shut down.
00:33:03
Speaker
A lot of them shut down their lobbies, but all the drive-thrus stayed open.
00:33:06
Speaker
Like even McDonald's is back to 24-hour service in my area.
00:33:10
Speaker
And it's just โ€“ I don't even think we have a Taco Bell here.
00:33:13
Speaker
Yeah, we do.
00:33:14
Speaker
Where?
00:33:15
Speaker
uh dumbest sheets and her sheet oh man no up the hill oh yeah oh that's like doesn't count that's so out like backwoods yeah it's off in the corner backwoods ghetto tacos yes but you know what's funny i'm gonna i'm gonna give tim lee a shout out really quick because he lives in pennsylvania as well if i remember tim lee yep
00:33:34
Speaker
And he, I sent a picture of Vernal and he's like, wait a minute, you guys have a Taco Bell?
00:33:39
Speaker
I'm like, yeah, dude.
00:33:41
Speaker
And he's like, I'm coming to Utah.
00:33:42
Speaker
I'm like, if that's seriously what that gets you to Utah, then yeah, we got Taco Bell, McDonald's and Burger King.
00:33:48
Speaker
Hey Tim Lee, you could drive probably 40 minutes to my house and we can go hit up Taco Bell.
00:33:53
Speaker
You and me, buddy.
00:33:54
Speaker
I didn't even know.
00:33:55
Speaker
Tim Lee, this is a bit of a, it's a questionable bell.
00:34:00
Speaker
Okay.
00:34:01
Speaker
It is a little shady.
00:34:02
Speaker
I didn't even know.
00:34:03
Speaker
But there is a Taco Bell in Pennsylvania.
00:34:06
Speaker
I can verify.
00:34:07
Speaker
It's the sketchy bell, isn't it?
00:34:08
Speaker
Yes.
00:34:09
Speaker
Yeah, it is.
00:34:10
Speaker
It's called Taco Type Bell.
00:34:12
Speaker
Yeah.
00:34:13
Speaker
Taco-ish.
00:34:13
Speaker
Taco-ish.
00:34:14
Speaker
STB.
00:34:19
Speaker
Yeah.
00:34:19
Speaker
Well, Tim Lee just picked up.
00:34:21
Speaker
Actually, I've been texting back with him because he just picked up a Pirates of the Caribbean.
00:34:25
Speaker
That was a Papa, like from Papa slash replay.
00:34:30
Speaker
And he's like, hey, does your upper play field do X?
00:34:34
Speaker
And I'm like, no, it's fine.
00:34:37
Speaker
So basically they had just made this thing super hard.
00:34:41
Speaker
And so now he's just getting it back to where the mortals can play it.
00:34:46
Speaker
Yeah.
00:34:46
Speaker
And so he's like, no, dude, mine's fine.
00:34:48
Speaker
And I still drain every, every three flips.
00:34:50
Speaker
So don't worry about it.
00:34:51
Speaker
So this is stern pirates.
00:34:53
Speaker
Yeah.
00:34:53
Speaker
Yes.
00:34:54
Speaker
Yes.
00:34:54
Speaker
Yeah.
00:34:54
Speaker
Yeah.
00:34:55
Speaker
Because generally not a difficult, super difficult game.
00:34:58
Speaker
Right.
00:34:58
Speaker
I mean, in terms of staying alive, they had totally jacked up the upper play field.
00:35:03
Speaker
And so it wasn't even doing anything it was supposed to.
00:35:05
Speaker
So, yeah.
00:35:08
Speaker
All right, so let's get back on topic.
00:35:10
Speaker
I can't even remember where you're at.
00:35:11
Speaker
We were at Chalupas.
00:35:13
Speaker
So tell me about Chalupas.
00:35:14
Speaker
Pinside Outrage or Outage, sorry.
00:35:17
Speaker
Oh, my goodness.
00:35:17
Speaker
Well, there's Outrage on there, too.
00:35:19
Speaker
Yeah.
00:35:21
Speaker
Well, I guess before we move on, though, I want to ask, so it sounds like Super Awesome is still going to be around and Mrs. Pins still going to be doing shows.

Potential Collaborations

00:35:30
Speaker
Is there anything else that you guys want to tell us maybe about those before we move on to the other notes that we have on here?
00:35:36
Speaker
Well, I think you guys, I think the entire pinball community needs to get around the concept that I've been trying to pitch to these two fine folks to get Mrs. Pin to
00:35:49
Speaker
on the super awesome show full time.
00:35:52
Speaker
That way she doesn't have to do her show.
00:35:56
Speaker
I can't handle the drama that you two get into.
00:36:01
Speaker
I can't handle it.
00:36:02
Speaker
We try to avoid it.
00:36:03
Speaker
Frenchie and drama?
00:36:05
Speaker
That never happens.
00:36:06
Speaker
No, no.
00:36:07
Speaker
That's like oil and water.
00:36:08
Speaker
I mean, I love you two are like two of my favorite, favorite guys, but like hells no.
00:36:15
Speaker
Did you guys, did anybody in the room here listen to Carrie Hardy's latest YouTube video?
00:36:23
Speaker
I can't remember.
00:36:24
Speaker
I don't know.
00:36:24
Speaker
I listened to one recently.
00:36:26
Speaker
Which one?
00:36:27
Speaker
The topic of it is basically some guy put a post.
00:36:32
Speaker
He said, I think it's called I'm Trending on Pinside.
00:36:35
Speaker
Oh.
00:36:36
Speaker
And some guy wrote and he wrote a, you know, he put a post up with a thread and it was basically like, why does this guy do pinball podcasting?
00:36:45
Speaker
I hate it, you know?
00:36:46
Speaker
And then, you know, all these people are piling on, you know, some people were saying like, hey, you know, if because I think he said he wanted to he was really interested in buying a Led Zeppelin.
00:36:57
Speaker
And he went and played it and he fell in love with it.
00:36:59
Speaker
And then he listened to Carrie's video about what a piece of crap that Carrie thought it was.
00:37:05
Speaker
And somehow that talked this guy out of buying the game.
00:37:09
Speaker
And then so he felt resentment towards that.
00:37:12
Speaker
Like, why did you destroy my joy?
00:37:15
Speaker
I mean, the obvious is don't listen.
00:37:18
Speaker
I mean, if you had a good time and you enjoyed it, go buy it.
00:37:20
Speaker
You know, like I don't if I want to if I want to buy a nice, delicious chalupa at Taco Bell.
00:37:26
Speaker
And some guy's out on the lawn saying, hey, your Chalupa sucks.
00:37:30
Speaker
I'm still going to get it because I know I'm going to like it.
00:37:33
Speaker
But, you know, the thing is, is that he was reading these negative comments and laughing.
00:37:39
Speaker
And that's what I envy about him is that I can't do that.
00:37:42
Speaker
You're a sensitive guy.
00:37:43
Speaker
I think honestly, if you if you could turn that out, and you could get to the point where criticism didn't affect you, and you could just roll with your creativity and be, you know, the awesome guy that you are, I think you would be much happier in life.
00:37:58
Speaker
But from my perspective, I think it's part of the artist mentality.
00:38:02
Speaker
You guys are like super perfectionists.
00:38:05
Speaker
Yeah.
00:38:05
Speaker
And you're hypercritical of your craft because there's a lot that goes into it.
00:38:11
Speaker
And I know just talking between you behind the scenes and talking to Jeremy Packer and whatnot, you guys are always โ€“ even when the job is done and you've got the checkmark, you can move on.
00:38:23
Speaker
you still look at it and go back and go, well, but I could tweak this or the, you're always searching for perfection.
00:38:28
Speaker
Yeah.
00:38:29
Speaker
And it's hard to get that with artwork, you know?
00:38:32
Speaker
Right.
00:38:32
Speaker
Well, it's, I think, you know, part of it is, um, you know, I don't expect everyone to like it, you know, I, you know, it's different tastes, you know, same reason why I don't go out and buy Bon Jovi records.
00:38:43
Speaker
I don't like it.
00:38:44
Speaker
Um, you know, but I'm not out on Bon Jovi's lawn saying, Hey, your new album sucks, dude.
00:38:51
Speaker
Um,
00:38:52
Speaker
If people could say, you know, when a new game comes out, if people come on, you know, Jeremy's got a whatever, Ninja Turtles comes out.
00:39:00
Speaker
If people could say, you know, I was hoping for the movie style or something or like, I don't know if, you know, these colors work for me or if they could be mature about.
00:39:13
Speaker
analyzing what it is that they don't like about it rather than just saying looks like a unicorn puked all over skittles you know that was me do you know that that was 100 me i did for deadpool i said it looked like it looks like skittles exploded on this on this play field that was 100 me it was i just ordered a deadpool
00:39:40
Speaker
We love Deadpool.
00:39:41
Speaker
And we've come to appreciate the art.
00:39:43
Speaker
Not even that we had to come to it.
00:39:44
Speaker
We appreciated the art, but it was definitely very busy.
00:39:48
Speaker
It was super red, too.
00:39:49
Speaker
That was my first.
00:39:50
Speaker
And you go on and you see something for the first time.
00:39:54
Speaker
It's like when Wonka came out, we were watching the reveal and I had to literally stop taping because we had pre-ordered the machine and I hated it.
00:40:03
Speaker
And
00:40:05
Speaker
And we own it.
00:40:06
Speaker
Like, I love this machine.
00:40:08
Speaker
It's great.
00:40:08
Speaker
But sometimes your first, like the picture that you have in your mind is not always what the reality is.
00:40:15
Speaker
That's the caveat of people who talk pinball, right?
00:40:18
Speaker
Is that you have these dreams.
00:40:20
Speaker
You have these ideas in your head of what a game is going to be.
00:40:23
Speaker
And then when you see it, it's never going to live up to those.
00:40:25
Speaker
No, no, it's not.
00:40:26
Speaker
That's why I'm terrified for Harry Potter.
00:40:28
Speaker
Yeah, because I am terrified.
00:40:30
Speaker
That's true.
00:40:31
Speaker
You make an interesting point because when some idiot leaked Monsters artwork out to the public before the game came out, there was no criticism when the game came out.
00:40:41
Speaker
Everybody loved it.
00:40:42
Speaker
They criticized the game itself.

Appeal of Pinball Games

00:40:45
Speaker
Everybody went and bought it because they saw the artwork and went, oh, I want that.
00:40:49
Speaker
And then they played the game and went, hmm.
00:40:51
Speaker
I actually would take a Monsters right now because I know that the games that are coming out are super great, but Avengers Downstairs...
00:41:01
Speaker
I was super excited and I love the game.
00:41:03
Speaker
My brother came over a kind of a random thing.
00:41:06
Speaker
We went to my brother who lives next to Disneyland was coming here for Christmas, but we were not going to be here for Christmas because we actually went to Disney world.
00:41:15
Speaker
So we took off and he actually came and stayed in my house and I came back and I was like, Hey, how did, how did you like Avengers?
00:41:20
Speaker
He's like,
00:41:21
Speaker
couldn't understand what to do.
00:41:23
Speaker
So I'm like, seriously.
00:41:26
Speaker
And I sold Iron Man, which now I'm kind of regretting selling Iron Man, but I need that game that is, hey, I don't need to explain anything.
00:41:35
Speaker
Hit that.
00:41:36
Speaker
And that would be perfect for him.
00:41:38
Speaker
Right.
00:41:38
Speaker
Why do you think I still have World Cup soccer?
00:41:41
Speaker
I love the game, but like everyone rolls up to that and they score a goal and they're like, goal!
00:41:47
Speaker
You're like, yes!
00:41:47
Speaker
And so they try to get the goalie going again so they can just keep scoring goals.
00:41:51
Speaker
We're a super J-pop fan, so...
00:41:54
Speaker
Yeah, you know, you know, it's a great game.
00:41:55
Speaker
I mean, I think pinball definitely has to have that that wow factor for newbies and for pros.
00:42:02
Speaker
And I think Stern is really good at that.
00:42:03
Speaker
They have it in their code that you have to have something that everyone can achieve.
00:42:08
Speaker
That's a wow factor.
00:42:09
Speaker
So you've got that.
00:42:10
Speaker
Give me multi ball.
00:42:12
Speaker
You've got that.
00:42:13
Speaker
You know, that's Gary.
00:42:15
Speaker
Yeah.
00:42:16
Speaker
Gary's like, you know, come on.
00:42:17
Speaker
Yeah.
00:42:20
Speaker
Well, even like with Jurassic Park, like the dinosaur was never supposed to move in it.
00:42:25
Speaker
And Gary showed up.
00:42:25
Speaker
Gary's like, hey, why isn't that move?
00:42:27
Speaker
Yeah.
00:42:28
Speaker
Okay, let's do that.
00:42:31
Speaker
But no, I think everyone โ€“ I mean, obviously, you guys have fans.
00:42:35
Speaker
I mean, looking at the votes, you guys took solid second place.
00:42:38
Speaker
You dominated in the Twippy.
00:42:40
Speaker
And so I think a lot of people โ€“
00:42:42
Speaker
We're heartbroken to see you gone.
00:42:43
Speaker
So it's going to be good news.
00:42:44
Speaker
A lot of people will be happy to hear that you're still looking to do this because it really is.
00:42:50
Speaker
It is a fantastic show.
00:42:52
Speaker
I think the only reason we decided to continue in some form is because we've got 500 air fresheners to give out with our local...
00:43:00
Speaker
That's right.
00:43:01
Speaker
Hey, I just cleaned my car.
00:43:02
Speaker
I need a new air fresher.
00:43:03
Speaker
Oh, dude, we've been building up on the swag.
00:43:05
Speaker
Christian and I go to Sticker Mule every time they have a deal on something.
00:43:09
Speaker
For the past year with no shows, we've been stocking up on the swag.
00:43:13
Speaker
We got all kinds of crap to give away.
00:43:15
Speaker
We have a three drawer organizer.
00:43:18
Speaker
Swag bin.
00:43:18
Speaker
Like the ones that you store your t-shirt things.
00:43:21
Speaker
Yeah.
00:43:21
Speaker
So we're still 100% planning on doing a coin taker, you know, tailgating party this year at some point.
00:43:29
Speaker
And we are going to just rain swag down on everyone who is there.
00:43:33
Speaker
I'm making the make it rain money sign right now.
00:43:37
Speaker
Yeah.
00:43:37
Speaker
Okay.
00:43:38
Speaker
Are you guys going to Expo?
00:43:39
Speaker
Because Josh and I are going to Expo.
00:43:41
Speaker
Yes.
00:43:41
Speaker
Where is Expo?
00:43:42
Speaker
Is it in Chicago?
00:43:44
Speaker
Chicago.
00:43:45
Speaker
So we can't, unfortunately this year.
00:43:47
Speaker
I booked it out.
00:43:48
Speaker
It's 11 hours drive.
00:43:49
Speaker
I know you guys can do it.
00:43:50
Speaker
I know.
00:43:51
Speaker
So we're actually going to go to Chicago, we think, this summer on a road trip because we can't go to any of our normal vacation places.
00:43:58
Speaker
So we're like, all right, well, maybe we'll make a road trip to Chicago.
00:44:02
Speaker
But Expo is always in October, isn't it?
00:44:04
Speaker
Unfortunately, it's on the same weekend as our daughter's birthday.
00:44:07
Speaker
It's also the weekend of Halloween, which we tend to go crazy for.
00:44:11
Speaker
And there's so much stuff going on that week that Expo is really hard for us to hit.
00:44:15
Speaker
But in June, I think, we're planning a road trip out there.
00:44:19
Speaker
On our bucket list has always been to go to the Jersey Jack factory and the Stern factory and check out the tours there.
00:44:26
Speaker
So we're going to try and hit, hit those up.
00:44:28
Speaker
We're going to reach out and see if we can pull any core, any strings to, to get in on those and get some tours.
00:44:35
Speaker
And then we've got a few friends that live out there.
00:44:37
Speaker
So we're going to, we're going to,
00:44:38
Speaker
It's going to be a fun trip, but it's not going to be expo fun, unfortunately.

Challenges of Attending Pinball Events

00:44:42
Speaker
No, expo is just โ€“ and like right then is โ€“ oh, it's always such a tough weekend.
00:44:47
Speaker
I don't even know why.
00:44:48
Speaker
Just all of those things, I guess.
00:44:50
Speaker
Yeah, I was I was grateful that wasn't our fall break because that's impossible for me to get off.
00:44:56
Speaker
But yeah, I I'm this is why you guys are better parents than me.
00:45:00
Speaker
A couple of reasons, because one, I actually have two children who have birthdays.
00:45:07
Speaker
I have an October 30th and an October 31st.
00:45:10
Speaker
That's right.
00:45:11
Speaker
Children.
00:45:11
Speaker
Halloween is one of my kids' birthdays.
00:45:14
Speaker
And yeah, I'm going to kind of ditch them to go to Expo this year.
00:45:18
Speaker
Wow, I thought I felt bad.
00:45:20
Speaker
I don't judge.
00:45:21
Speaker
I don't judge.
00:45:22
Speaker
I'm kind of jealous a little bit.
00:45:24
Speaker
Listen, man, if you can get away with it and your wife is willing to pick up the slack, then all power to you.
00:45:29
Speaker
Yeah, see, because the thing is-
00:45:31
Speaker
I can't I like Christians like oh yeah so expo you know like and if he's like yeah maybe I'll maybe I was you know just like thinking about going I'm like heck no you're not going without me the hammer gets dropped unfortunately in our family both both parents want to go yeah it's not just like one person can sneak out for the week
00:45:49
Speaker
And we don't have grandparents who like come and watch the kids and like, you know, stay overnight with them.
00:45:54
Speaker
And so it's, you know, that part of it, I'm like, what are we going to do?
00:45:57
Speaker
Drive 11 hours to Chicago?
00:45:58
Speaker
And like, that's at least three days, at least three days we need.
00:46:02
Speaker
Take your kids out of school.
00:46:03
Speaker
What is wrong with you?
00:46:04
Speaker
School's not that important.
00:46:06
Speaker
I mean, come on.
00:46:07
Speaker
Anybody can teach school.
00:46:09
Speaker
Anybody, anybody.
00:46:11
Speaker
You have to be crazy to be a teacher.
00:46:13
Speaker
That's all I have to say about that.
00:46:14
Speaker
Are you going to be there, Franchi?
00:46:17
Speaker
Are you going to Expo?
00:46:19
Speaker
Uh, I was, I was thinking about it.
00:46:22
Speaker
Yeah.
00:46:22
Speaker
I need to talk to, to Rob, Rob Burke, uh, about that.
00:46:26
Speaker
Um, so it's, uh, it's a possibility.
00:46:29
Speaker
Awesome.
00:46:30
Speaker
I'm not a hundred percent sure.
00:46:33
Speaker
Um, but, uh, have you, have you checked the scalp of the child who was born, um, October 31st for a six, six, six anywhere?
00:46:40
Speaker
No, but okay.
00:46:41
Speaker
Seriously.
00:46:41
Speaker
We were going to name him Jack.
00:46:43
Speaker
because that would be so awesome, like Jack the Pumpkin King, born on Halloween.
00:46:47
Speaker
But yeah, I knew a Jack and he was kind of a jerk.
00:46:50
Speaker
And so it kind of like, okay, Sarah, how do you guys name your kids?
00:46:56
Speaker
Because I guarantee every possible name combination out there, you're like, no, that kid's a jerk.
00:47:01
Speaker
Dude, that's such a great question.
00:47:03
Speaker
Sarah, it was multiple times when we were trying

Humorous Child-Naming Stories

00:47:06
Speaker
to think of names.
00:47:06
Speaker
She was like, nope, I had a kid like that.
00:47:08
Speaker
They were an awesome, so we can't name a kid then.
00:47:11
Speaker
Yeah.
00:47:12
Speaker
I know.
00:47:13
Speaker
Actually, one of our children, I looked at the surgery list of all of the patients that were there for the day, and I saw a name, and I was like, that's a beautiful name, and you don't see that very often.
00:47:24
Speaker
So we named one of our daughters that name, and the other name was one that we both thought of for a long time that we both love.
00:47:32
Speaker
Yes.
00:47:32
Speaker
I never had a student named either of these names ever.
00:47:35
Speaker
So, so you have Delilah and Jezebel.
00:47:38
Speaker
Um, yes, we do.
00:47:39
Speaker
That's right.
00:47:39
Speaker
Yes.
00:47:40
Speaker
Yes.
00:47:41
Speaker
Pinderella and princess.
00:47:42
Speaker
Yep.
00:47:42
Speaker
We do.
00:47:43
Speaker
We do.
00:47:45
Speaker
I got, I got questioned when I was naming, I have two daughters and the, uh, the younger one, um,
00:47:54
Speaker
I was actually married for bonus.
00:47:58
Speaker
And when we were trying to come up with names, um, I had suggested the name Reagan and my wife at the time said, um, that's unusual.
00:48:10
Speaker
Where'd you get that from?
00:48:12
Speaker
And I said, well, that's the name of the girl in the exorcist.
00:48:14
Speaker
And she's like, no, no, no, no.
00:48:16
Speaker
I'm like, damn it.
00:48:18
Speaker
That's one of my favorite movies.
00:48:19
Speaker
You should have said Ronald.
00:48:21
Speaker
I mean, yeah, that's what I was thinking.
00:48:24
Speaker
I would have questioned myself on that one.
00:48:26
Speaker
Yeah.
00:48:26
Speaker
All right.
00:48:27
Speaker
Okay.
00:48:27
Speaker
Well...
00:48:28
Speaker
Yeah, no.
00:48:29
Speaker
No, well.
00:48:30
Speaker
Yeah, so I got shot down.
00:48:31
Speaker
And I got shot down on, to tell you the truth, I think Sarah was one of my choices.
00:48:37
Speaker
And my wife at the time said, no, I knew this girl.
00:48:40
Speaker
She was a cocaine drug addict.
00:48:43
Speaker
It was me.
00:48:44
Speaker
Wait, Sarah?
00:48:45
Speaker
Seriously?
00:48:46
Speaker
Was that you?
00:48:47
Speaker
Damn you.
00:48:47
Speaker
Yeah, she knew me.
00:48:49
Speaker
You ruined the naming of my child.
00:48:51
Speaker
I'm so sorry about that.
00:48:53
Speaker
Yeah.
00:48:53
Speaker
See, we were going to do Jude for one of them, but then we decided.
00:48:58
Speaker
Hey, Jude.
00:48:59
Speaker
Exactly.
00:48:59
Speaker
That's where it came from.
00:49:00
Speaker
And we were going to do Reagan actually for another, but we landed on Grayson and Nora for our twins.
00:49:05
Speaker
Okay.
00:49:05
Speaker
So do you actually know like the story of Jude?
00:49:08
Speaker
It's actually kind of a really sad story.
00:49:09
Speaker
So yeah, that's why we ended up not naming him Jude.
00:49:14
Speaker
Well, what it is is it's actually Paul would go over to write with John and John was like a completely absentee father.
00:49:22
Speaker
And so Paul would actually play with Julian and,
00:49:26
Speaker
And so, you know, and John was all on drugs and everything.
00:49:30
Speaker
And so the song started out like, Hey, Julie, and then it ended up changing it to Hey Jude.
00:49:34
Speaker
So it's hard for me not to see, hear that song and not think about basically a substitute father singing to a kid who has a horrible father.
00:49:44
Speaker
Yeah.
00:49:45
Speaker
So.
00:49:45
Speaker
Yikes.
00:49:46
Speaker
Yeah, I know.
00:49:47
Speaker
Kind of a downer, right?
00:49:48
Speaker
Yeah.
00:49:49
Speaker
Total down.
00:49:50
Speaker
So let's pick it up.
00:49:52
Speaker
Yeah.
00:49:54
Speaker
Meanwhile in pinball.
00:49:56
Speaker
Alrighty.
00:49:56
Speaker
Let's move on to, uh, let's move on to these notes.
00:49:59
Speaker
I don't think, was anyone heartbroken that pin side was down for five days or six days?
00:50:04
Speaker
I saw the, I saw the withdrawals on Facebook.
00:50:06
Speaker
Holy crap.

Pinside Outage Reflection

00:50:08
Speaker
Yeah.
00:50:08
Speaker
I didn't go there.
00:50:09
Speaker
So I didn't know.
00:50:11
Speaker
People bash Pinside, man, for the drama on the site, but it's an important part of the hobby.
00:50:16
Speaker
And I think that we saw that when it was down.
00:50:18
Speaker
I mean, some people went through serious withdrawal.
00:50:21
Speaker
You know, it's a great site for games, for seeing what mods are out there, for, you know.
00:50:28
Speaker
Repairs.
00:50:28
Speaker
Repairs, all that stuff.
00:50:30
Speaker
But, you know, some people live on that site and there were some people who were pretty broken up.
00:50:36
Speaker
Yeah.
00:50:37
Speaker
Yeah.
00:50:38
Speaker
I, I, I was just distraught.
00:50:41
Speaker
Sarah didn't even know it was down.
00:50:42
Speaker
I had to tell her tonight that it was down.
00:50:44
Speaker
I was like, what's up with Pinside?
00:50:45
Speaker
What's the deal?
00:50:46
Speaker
And he was like, Oh, it went down.
00:50:47
Speaker
And I was like, so terrible.
00:50:50
Speaker
It really was.
00:50:51
Speaker
The only reason I knew it went down is because I went to go post our last episode.
00:50:55
Speaker
And it's like, why is Pinside not going through?
00:50:59
Speaker
Like, what's the issue here?
00:51:01
Speaker
And then I think I tried to look up, like, two different prices on pinball machines.
00:51:05
Speaker
And I was like, oh, I forget.
00:51:06
Speaker
They're down.
00:51:07
Speaker
I hardly am ever on the form, so it didn't really bother me.
00:51:10
Speaker
But there's a wealth of information on Pinside, so I'm glad it's back up.
00:51:15
Speaker
And that's why I feel bad for Robin.
00:51:16
Speaker
I feel like Pinside gets dinged because the forms can be very toxic.
00:51:20
Speaker
But there's so much wealth of information there that a lot of people kind of look over it.
00:51:24
Speaker
I truly was glad that they didn't lose more than, you know, like whatever.
00:51:28
Speaker
It was like an hour.
00:51:29
Speaker
An hour and 37 minutes or something of their data.
00:51:32
Speaker
But yeah, I mean, there's so many good things on that site that people don't really talk about often, like the pinball map and the market and just learning about, you know, if you have any issue at all with your machine, there aren't a lot of resources out there to help you with that.
00:51:45
Speaker
And Pinside is definitely one of them.
00:51:47
Speaker
So, and the biggest.
00:51:49
Speaker
Yeah.
00:51:50
Speaker
They win the Twippy every year.
00:51:53
Speaker
You can definitely have information on a broken pinball machine within an hour from someone that's fairly well rehearsed on that machine.
00:52:00
Speaker
It's amazing.
00:52:02
Speaker
Well, and you reach out through Pinside and people are willing to help you.
00:52:06
Speaker
Like, that's the best thing about pinball people.
00:52:08
Speaker
Total strangers.
00:52:09
Speaker
Like, like...
00:52:11
Speaker
Us inviting them to kill them before we'd even met them.
00:52:15
Speaker
We have invited so many random people over to our house that we have really, truly no knowledge of, but we just know they're pinball people.
00:52:21
Speaker
So we know they're probably good people.
00:52:24
Speaker
Who came over?
00:52:26
Speaker
We've had the McAlpines over.
00:52:27
Speaker
Yeah, Colin McAlpine.
00:52:29
Speaker
Christian was like, the McAlpines are coming over.
00:52:30
Speaker
I was like, who the heck is this?
00:52:32
Speaker
Hey, I need to know, though, like, is Colin a good house guest?
00:52:36
Speaker
Because he's coming out here this summer.
00:52:38
Speaker
Because I need to know, does he flush the toilet?
00:52:41
Speaker
Does he wash the hands?
00:52:42
Speaker
Does he shut the door?
00:52:43
Speaker
In fact, we had his whole extended family here.
00:52:45
Speaker
His aunt was here.
00:52:45
Speaker
And they're all a gem.
00:52:46
Speaker
They're all gems here.
00:52:48
Speaker
They're truly awesome.
00:52:49
Speaker
The only thing though, is that if you care about any of your GCs, I would just turn that machine off and put like a out of order sign on it.
00:52:56
Speaker
Lie, lie about it.
00:52:57
Speaker
Yeah, no.
00:52:58
Speaker
Well, what I'm going to do is I'm actually, do you know what I'll do?
00:53:01
Speaker
I'll actually like take off the glass and put on like a super crazy high GC and Colin's like, wait, what is it?
00:53:06
Speaker
I'm like, I don't know.
00:53:07
Speaker
I was just playing last night and just got in the role.
00:53:09
Speaker
He will still beat it, Scott.
00:53:10
Speaker
He will still beat it.
00:53:12
Speaker
He beat Indiana Jones.
00:53:14
Speaker
On his first game.
00:53:15
Speaker
Now, I don't know if you know this game well, but Williams, Indiana Jones, you have to play 13 modes or something crazy.
00:53:21
Speaker
And then the final mode, you have to hit every single switch on the game.
00:53:26
Speaker
And he did all of this in three balls.
00:53:29
Speaker
And I was talking his ear off.
00:53:32
Speaker
Yeah, he was talking to us the whole time about how to play the game.
00:53:34
Speaker
It was impressive.
00:53:35
Speaker
Is that why you sold it?
00:53:37
Speaker
It's going out.
00:53:38
Speaker
It's gone.
00:53:39
Speaker
Yeah.
00:53:40
Speaker
Yeah.
00:53:42
Speaker
You know, I'm going to have an eye patch that he has to play with.
00:53:44
Speaker
So his death reception is off.
00:53:46
Speaker
He's still going to be like, seriously, you could.
00:53:48
Speaker
Oh, come on.
00:53:48
Speaker
He's not that good.
00:53:49
Speaker
He's never won anything important.
00:53:52
Speaker
Yeah.
00:53:52
Speaker
Not Pinberg or anything.
00:53:53
Speaker
Oh, wait.
00:53:54
Speaker
Oh yeah.
00:53:54
Speaker
He won that.
00:53:55
Speaker
Yeah.
00:53:55
Speaker
Give his hands a little shot at Novocaine.
00:53:58
Speaker
Do a bilateral brachial plexus block.
00:54:01
Speaker
That's right.
00:54:02
Speaker
So you guys, speaking of Pinberg, did you see Doug Polka's post tonight?
00:54:06
Speaker
No.
00:54:07
Speaker
Oh, I did not.
00:54:08
Speaker
He said that he is trying to raise money to bring back a giant hundreds of people pinball tournament to the Pittsburgh area, which kind of sounds to me like Pinberg 2.0.
00:54:19
Speaker
So hopefully he's trying to revive it.
00:54:22
Speaker
I mean, he was the lead guy or at least one of the lead people running Pinberg.
00:54:27
Speaker
Yeah, he was the tournament director.
00:54:29
Speaker
So I really hope that it does make a comeback.
00:54:32
Speaker
Well, he certainly knows how to do it.
00:54:34
Speaker
I mean, it's not the limiting factor really isn't the machines.
00:54:38
Speaker
The limiting factor is knowing how to set things up.
00:54:41
Speaker
And so they run efficiently.
00:54:42
Speaker
So he is the he's the most important piece of that.
00:54:46
Speaker
He's like Obi-Wan.
00:54:48
Speaker
He's the Obi-Wan of setting stuff up like that.
00:54:52
Speaker
They've sold all of their machines, which is a little worrisome, but I know that there's a ton of people who are in that area that would love to volunteer their games.
00:54:59
Speaker
Who did they sell them to?
00:55:00
Speaker
They sold them to pinball players.
00:55:02
Speaker
They all know what Pinberg is.
00:55:06
Speaker
I'm not saying it's the same resource, but it's certainly at least... It's not like he sold them to some collector in Germany who's putting him in a vault like the Indiana Jones Ark of the Covenant thing.
00:55:19
Speaker
These are out there.
00:55:22
Speaker
Yeah, hopefully it happens.
00:55:24
Speaker
We would love to see that.
00:55:25
Speaker
Good for Doug, absolutely.
00:55:27
Speaker
Diet Pinnberg.
00:55:28
Speaker
Yeah.
00:55:29
Speaker
Zero sugar.
00:55:30
Speaker
Yeah.
00:55:31
Speaker
Nice.
00:55:33
Speaker
Do you guys, living so close to Pittsburgh, do you stay the night in when you did Pinnberg?
00:55:39
Speaker
Did you stay the night there?
00:55:40
Speaker
Oh, it was like a five-day epic.
00:55:42
Speaker
Yeah.
00:55:44
Speaker
Seriously, I cried when they, like, man, I don't know.
00:55:48
Speaker
I've shed some tears this year, but that was one of the worst.
00:55:51
Speaker
If you're into pinball, Pinberg, it was truly the event that would, you know, it just, it's a once in a lifetime thing.
00:55:58
Speaker
I went to school in New Orleans and I would tell everyone Mardi Gras is like a once in a lifetime thing.
00:56:04
Speaker
You have to go, you have to experience it.
00:56:07
Speaker
all of the like amazingness that it has to offer.
00:56:09
Speaker
And Pinberg was that for pinball.
00:56:11
Speaker
It was just so special.
00:56:13
Speaker
And everyone who was into pinball went there.
00:56:16
Speaker
Even if you didn't get into the tournament, you went and you just had such a good time because it was everyone who loved and was super passionate about pinball in a, in a small space with,
00:56:26
Speaker
Hundreds of games, just geeking out over the same thing.
00:56:30
Speaker
And, you know, when everything was done, you'd go out for drinks and you'd hang out with all the people you've heard about in pinball and you'd meet all these great people.
00:56:36
Speaker
It was just, it was an experience.
00:56:39
Speaker
And I really, really hope that it comes back because I want other people to experience that.
00:56:44
Speaker
Yeah, it was epic.
00:56:45
Speaker
Crystal Gemnick called it the summer camp event.
00:56:49
Speaker
of pinball.
00:56:50
Speaker
Yeah.
00:56:50
Speaker
Cause pinball summer camp or something like that.
00:56:53
Speaker
And it truly was just like a five day epic.
00:56:56
Speaker
Like it took us weeks to recover from, from those five days.
00:57:00
Speaker
Cause we would be so exhausted after, you know, cause the tournament, it was 12 hours a day for three straight days.
00:57:06
Speaker
But you never were like upset that you were there.
00:57:09
Speaker
No.
00:57:09
Speaker
It was pinball fantasy camp and you were geeking out about it.
00:57:13
Speaker
You're riding that high after it was done for weeks afterwards and just jonesing for the next one.
00:57:19
Speaker
So if it can come back and other people can enjoy that, you know, that's huge.
00:57:25
Speaker
But they're still not taking my tickets.
00:57:28
Speaker
That's right.
00:57:28
Speaker
We still have tickets.
00:57:29
Speaker
I will hit that F5 button until I am blue in the face.
00:57:32
Speaker
Yeah.
00:57:34
Speaker
Yeah.
00:57:34
Speaker
If you don't know what F5 is, that means when you hit F5, you refresh your computer.
00:57:38
Speaker
So you have to continually hit that when the Pinberg tickets go for sale because you want to try and get in in the queue.
00:57:44
Speaker
Yeah.
00:57:44
Speaker
They sold out the last time that we did it.
00:57:46
Speaker
They sold out in 2.7 seconds.
00:57:47
Speaker
Yeah.
00:57:48
Speaker
It's insane.
00:57:50
Speaker
So crazy.
00:57:51
Speaker
I want to talk about Alien because you guys actually got your hands on Alien before all of them started shipping.
00:57:57
Speaker
They were building a ton of them.
00:57:59
Speaker
What are your guys' thoughts on Alien?

Impressions of Alien Pinball Game

00:58:02
Speaker
I mean, they just posted a picture, too, that they had them lined up and all the lights were on and they were flashing.
00:58:06
Speaker
It looks like they're actually getting them out the door and everything.
00:58:09
Speaker
Yeah, man.
00:58:10
Speaker
Yeah.
00:58:10
Speaker
I mean, we got to play the first game that hit the US and CoinTicker was generous enough to let us out there and play.
00:58:18
Speaker
And we had a few slushies and played about, I don't know what, 20 games on that.
00:58:22
Speaker
Yeah.
00:58:23
Speaker
But we loved it.
00:58:24
Speaker
I mean, I did play the original game and it's very similar.
00:58:29
Speaker
It's a great game.
00:58:30
Speaker
It's very, very fun to shoot.
00:58:33
Speaker
The
00:58:35
Speaker
The layout is basically the same as the original.
00:58:38
Speaker
The Xenomorph head, I didn't know if it was working when I was playing it before.
00:58:43
Speaker
I talked to Chris subsequently, and he said that the Xenomorph head in the software was turned off or something funky, but it's fully functional.
00:58:51
Speaker
It wasn't a mechanical issue when I played it.
00:58:54
Speaker
So they brought it to Pinbrew Fest last weekend and lots of people got their hands on it and had good feedback.
00:59:03
Speaker
So I think it's going to be a great game.
00:59:05
Speaker
I mean, if you missed out on the first run of this, it's going to be really cool to have the option to buy it now and have it kind of bulletproofed a lot more than the original version was.
00:59:15
Speaker
Yeah.
00:59:17
Speaker
But, you know, we'll see how many games they ship.
00:59:21
Speaker
I talked to Chris and Melissa recently and they said that they're really pushing to ship as many games as they can.
00:59:27
Speaker
And there's a couple shipments coming, but they don't know, you know, exact numbers now in terms of how many are going to hit the U.S. and how long it's going to take.
00:59:34
Speaker
But the Pinball Brothers have really made a point to say they want to make this game as like...
00:59:42
Speaker
as perfect as they can and as mechanically sound as they can because they know the history of this game.
00:59:47
Speaker
They know that it's not something that people want to see any issues with straight out of the box.
00:59:54
Speaker
So they're really taking their time.
00:59:56
Speaker
They're making sure the games they ship are perfect so that when they do hit the US, it's going to be positive feedback instead of people complaining about stuff.
01:00:04
Speaker
I thought it was a great game.
01:00:05
Speaker
I thought it was super fun.
01:00:07
Speaker
I thought the look of the game is great.
01:00:08
Speaker
I mean, obviously, I go for like the aesthetics first, and then I like, you know, flip it and see what I think about that part of it too.
01:00:15
Speaker
But I thought it was awesome.
01:00:17
Speaker
I don't know.
01:00:17
Speaker
It was a lot of fun.
01:00:19
Speaker
Yeah.
01:00:19
Speaker
We still don't know what the limited edition version of the game is going to come with.
01:00:24
Speaker
So that could be, I know a lot of people are waiting to see what that is before they pull the trigger, but there could be some really cool features coming on the next version of this.
01:00:31
Speaker
Okay.
01:00:33
Speaker
Would you buy it and put it in your home collection?
01:00:36
Speaker
We don't like Alien.
01:00:37
Speaker
Yeah.
01:00:37
Speaker
That's the only... That's like... So if it wasn't for the theme... It's a theme.
01:00:41
Speaker
Okay.
01:00:41
Speaker
All right.
01:00:41
Speaker
It's a fun game.
01:00:42
Speaker
It is fun.
01:00:43
Speaker
If you are an Alien fan, then absolutely.
01:00:45
Speaker
Absolutely.
01:00:46
Speaker
It's a no-brainer.
01:00:47
Speaker
I mean, this game is phenomenal.
01:00:50
Speaker
But Alien is not really a theme that either of us really are huge into.
01:00:54
Speaker
Yeah.
01:00:56
Speaker
truly this almost speaks to the game's uh awesomeness is that it does pull you into kind of this high suspense kind of horror theme of alien and when you're playing it the sound system is bumping you're hearing you know people screaming at the at the aliens coming and you know there's it is high suspense when you play it so it's not a game that we'd really want for our kids yeah but if you're into the theme and you i mean it is it's it's a lot of fun for sure it is
01:01:22
Speaker
I'm into the theme, but I've only played the

Enjoyment of Guns N' Roses Pinball

01:01:25
Speaker
original version.
01:01:25
Speaker
I didn't get the chance to play the new version.
01:01:28
Speaker
But I liked the old one.
01:01:32
Speaker
You know, aside from the flaws that it had, I really enjoyed it.
01:01:35
Speaker
So I can only imagine with things being improved that if you were into Aliens, yeah, it was definitely a good game.
01:01:44
Speaker
Okay.
01:01:44
Speaker
Now, Christian, Sarah, do you have the adult mode on your GNR?
01:01:49
Speaker
We do.
01:01:50
Speaker
We do, but that's only because our kids are so not into pinball.
01:01:53
Speaker
Yeah, they're not.
01:01:54
Speaker
They do not come down and play at any point.
01:01:56
Speaker
So we're not worried about them like hearing the casual F-bombs.
01:02:00
Speaker
Yeah, I was just kind of wondering.
01:02:01
Speaker
I was like, well, okay, so that theme doesn't do it for you, but Guns N' Roses does.
01:02:07
Speaker
It does.
01:02:07
Speaker
Listen, I mean, Christian, the story behind the Guns N' Roses is that Christian, speaking of my drinking, God gave me two slushies at Cointaker, and I was like, I never drink, really, really, really.
01:02:22
Speaker
I love this game.
01:02:24
Speaker
But man, he gave me two.
01:02:26
Speaker
They were in like Dixie cups too.
01:02:28
Speaker
It was pathetic.
01:02:29
Speaker
And he's like, so what do you think?
01:02:31
Speaker
Should we get this game?
01:02:32
Speaker
This is right after she got the GC, I might mention.
01:02:35
Speaker
Yeah, that is true.
01:02:36
Speaker
Oh, I see.
01:02:36
Speaker
And he plied me with liquor and I was like, yeah, do it.
01:02:41
Speaker
And then as I sobered up, as the next hour progressed, I was like, dude, go tell her no.
01:02:48
Speaker
No, absolutely not.
01:02:50
Speaker
But rewind and just say, look at it now.
01:02:53
Speaker
And we played it a ton since it's in the house.
01:02:55
Speaker
Yeah, it really is such a fun game.
01:02:58
Speaker
Okay, so I want you guys to go to the pinball loft.com and look at what he's done to the speakers on the top.
01:03:06
Speaker
And he has the CE and he actually changed the speaker setup.
01:03:12
Speaker
And so I'm not kidding.
01:03:13
Speaker
You probably are going to blow your ears like back to the future.
01:03:16
Speaker
Well, we got Christian got some kind of super subwoofer.
01:03:20
Speaker
I have a sound.
01:03:21
Speaker
I have a sound bar, a Bose sound bar and a subwoofer underneath the game.
01:03:25
Speaker
And they're both cranked up to like max.
01:03:27
Speaker
So when you play this game, the house shakes, but it's phenomenal.
01:03:31
Speaker
Nice.
01:03:33
Speaker
That's crazy though.
01:03:34
Speaker
I'm on it right now.
01:03:35
Speaker
And it's just, this is awesome.
01:03:37
Speaker
Yeah.
01:03:38
Speaker
Yeah.
01:03:38
Speaker
Pretty sure you're part of the band if you play that game.
01:03:41
Speaker
Yes.
01:03:42
Speaker
Yeah.
01:03:42
Speaker
Right.
01:03:44
Speaker
Alrighty, so I'm going to move to the very last topic because I know we're going to get a lot of longevity out of this topic.
01:03:50
Speaker
Oh, come on.
01:03:51
Speaker
No, no, no.
01:03:52
Speaker
It's all good.
01:03:53
Speaker
It's all good.

Deep Root Pinball's Struggles

01:03:54
Speaker
Oh, my goodness.
01:03:55
Speaker
So I'm going to start off, though, with because Scott had requested on our last episode, if you have not listened to it, you might want to rewind and go listen to episode 57.
01:04:04
Speaker
It was nicely.
01:04:05
Speaker
I requested nicely.
01:04:07
Speaker
Okay, he requested nicely for people that may have purchased a Deep Root pinball machine of the Raza Persuasion to give us their perspective since they have bought it.
01:04:19
Speaker
We had an amazing amount of emails come in.
01:04:22
Speaker
Only one was of a purchase, but people had said, like, there should be at least one segment every episode of Scott just going off on Deep Root.
01:04:31
Speaker
And I know that Franchi definitely wants to give his input, too.
01:04:36
Speaker
Well, when I talked to Christian and he had mentioned you guys, he said, do you, you know, they reached out, you guys, you want to go on the show?
01:04:43
Speaker
And I'm like, Scott hates deep root.
01:04:45
Speaker
Yes, I do.
01:04:48
Speaker
I don't hate them.
01:04:50
Speaker
I, okay.
01:04:51
Speaker
I hate them.
01:04:51
Speaker
I hate them.
01:04:53
Speaker
I don't, uh,
01:04:54
Speaker
You know, but I've learned a ton in this last two weeks about Deep Root.
01:05:00
Speaker
We've been given a lot more perspective.
01:05:03
Speaker
And I think the thing is, at least for me, is it's a company โ€“
01:05:10
Speaker
that I feel like is trying to be legitimate, but they have no clue how to manufacture.
01:05:15
Speaker
And that's their main hiccup.
01:05:17
Speaker
Dude, I'm totally with you.
01:05:19
Speaker
I'm sad.
01:05:20
Speaker
I'm sad about the whole thing because I feel for everyone at that company, even Mueller.
01:05:25
Speaker
And the reason why is that he's boisterous and he's way overpromised in the past.
01:05:30
Speaker
But at this point, it's pretty clear that he just misjudged his abilities and it's cost him a metric crap ton of money with very little product to show for it.
01:05:40
Speaker
Wait, wait, wait, wait.
01:05:41
Speaker
What is your definition of very little?
01:05:44
Speaker
That's none.
01:05:44
Speaker
I'm just wondering, like if I promised you money and I said, you know what?
01:05:50
Speaker
I will give you very little back.
01:05:52
Speaker
I will take that bet if I can have that same, like that same benchmark of very little is none.
01:05:59
Speaker
Yeah.
01:05:59
Speaker
Yeah.
01:06:00
Speaker
One of the things that we got snagged up on in the last episode was the nominal interest on your payment.
01:06:06
Speaker
So someone had told me a part of the agreement that they had signed was
01:06:10
Speaker
if they went ahead with Raza is they were taking that money and they were putting it into an account.
01:06:15
Speaker
And so if you asked for your money back later, if they were not able to perform, if they've made money off of that, off of your money in that account, since it was going into a savings or whatever it is, they would give you the interest that you made along with your money back.
01:06:29
Speaker
So that, that was the nominal interest part.
01:06:32
Speaker
You know what, in keeping with all the other things he has promised, I totally believe that will happen.
01:06:37
Speaker
Yeah.
01:06:37
Speaker
Oh my goodness.
01:06:39
Speaker
Wait, we need to rewind for just one second.
01:06:41
Speaker
So here's, here's my question.
01:06:43
Speaker
I've asked this to Christian about 4,000 times, but who on earth would give their money to deep root?
01:06:51
Speaker
That's just my only question.
01:06:53
Speaker
I mean, they have literally fallen through on every single promise they have ever, ever made every claim.
01:07:00
Speaker
I think they've fallen through on, and that's not for lack of trying.
01:07:03
Speaker
Right.
01:07:04
Speaker
Charlie Brown, I'm Lucy, and I have this great ball that I want you to kick.
01:07:08
Speaker
Come on, come on.
01:07:09
Speaker
Just go ahead.
01:07:10
Speaker
Go ahead, try to kick it.
01:07:11
Speaker
Well, let's not forget the attachment of Papa Duke, too, who is a known felon when it comes to stealing money for pre-orders.
01:07:18
Speaker
That certainly doesn't help things.
01:07:20
Speaker
I think that's the problem, though, is like I think Papa Duke and Mueller in the same boat.
01:07:25
Speaker
I don't know if they're necessarily felons.
01:07:26
Speaker
Well, obviously what they've done has not been...
01:07:29
Speaker
Spot clean, but it seriously comes back to you've got people that want to create and design, but have no clue how to manufacture.
01:07:38
Speaker
That's where it comes.
01:07:39
Speaker
They're trying to come up to the finish line and not.
01:07:41
Speaker
They can't finish because they've done everything up to the point of manufacturing.
01:07:45
Speaker
They can't.
01:07:46
Speaker
Okay.
01:07:47
Speaker
So what?
01:07:48
Speaker
They're homebrews.
01:07:49
Speaker
Okay.
01:07:50
Speaker
Do you know who's made a pin?
01:07:51
Speaker
Thunderbirds.
01:07:53
Speaker
Thunder crap and birds have made a pin.
01:07:56
Speaker
You can buy that thing and you can buy the thing with the arcade flippers and the international rescue and the little puppet thing.
01:08:04
Speaker
And it still will get you farther than what you could get with deep fruit.
01:08:07
Speaker
Don't forget punny factory.
01:08:09
Speaker
Honey.
01:08:09
Speaker
Okay.
01:08:09
Speaker
You know what?
01:08:10
Speaker
Hey, a punny factory has not promised anything.
01:08:13
Speaker
And if they want to make a dad, a dad joke game, that's totally fine with me, but they're also not going out saying that again, outperform Stern.
01:08:23
Speaker
Yeah.
01:08:24
Speaker
Yeah.
01:08:24
Speaker
All right.
01:08:25
Speaker
Let me give you some perspective because we're talking about who would buy this.
01:08:28
Speaker
Well, I have a person here that did buy it.
01:08:30
Speaker
Ready?
01:08:30
Speaker
All right.
01:08:32
Speaker
Greeting loser kids.
01:08:33
Speaker
I love your podcast and want to give you some feedback on your latest episode since you wanted to hear from folks who were in on a Raza.
01:08:40
Speaker
Yes, I am one of those crazy 130 folks that put it down a deposit.
01:08:45
Speaker
Feel free to read this email on the future episode if you would, but please leave my name off of it if you don't mind.
01:08:51
Speaker
No problem, Chuck.
01:08:52
Speaker
We'll leave your name.
01:08:53
Speaker
No problem, dude.
01:08:56
Speaker
I guess I should start with my reasoning for placing an order.
01:08:59
Speaker
I have no real attachment to Papa Duke as a designer, even if I really do enjoy his older pins, especially Theater of Magic and Tales of Arabian Nights.
01:09:07
Speaker
I'm in the minority of pinball fans who enjoy original themes and especially love old sci-fi B-movies.
01:09:15
Speaker
So a quirky sci-fi theme with zombies and aliens immediately piqued my interest and
01:09:20
Speaker
Learning Steve Bowden was on rules also made me think this game might be a winner due to his years of playing experience.
01:09:26
Speaker
The pin bar is also an interesting concept, but I think it could be easily used.
01:09:30
Speaker
Use the back glass screen, flippers and action button to make the mode choices.
01:09:35
Speaker
The pin bar seems more useful for the back end menu plus whatever mini games they decide to
01:09:41
Speaker
I still believe it's more of a novelty feature than entertainment.
01:09:45
Speaker
I want to skip just a little bit.
01:09:47
Speaker
Oh, I had been following the Zidware fallout along with opening of Raza orders and was glad to see an effort being made to make people whole who had previously lost money.
01:09:56
Speaker
After reviewing the Raza options and contract, I made the choice to go in with a 10% deposit.
01:10:03
Speaker
I've been lucky enough to still have a well-paying job during COVID, but know full well that this money could easily vanish if the game was never made.
01:10:11
Speaker
I would never put down a full deposit unless the company had already proven stable.
01:10:15
Speaker
I don't see the purchase as an investment like others who are talking about for rarity for flipping purposes.
01:10:21
Speaker
I do think the pin looks like a fun game and believe it would be a good fit in my lineup.
01:10:25
Speaker
Honestly, hope Raza is made and that Deep Root is able to move on to another game.
01:10:30
Speaker
With that being said, though, I agree that Food Truck does not sound like a blockbuster pin.
01:10:35
Speaker
but I am the kind of guy who sees values in game like diner.
01:10:39
Speaker
Of course, we were talking about a game that was made 20 years ago versus a game from today for deep root to be successful.
01:10:46
Speaker
They should move on to licensed themed games like Goonies and the who from get for game two.
01:10:51
Speaker
Uh, it would not surprise me if Ross is built only for the company to fold shortly after Robert Mueller may have a passion for pinball, but his lack of manufacturing knowledge may be his downfall.
01:11:01
Speaker
I may also want to note, this is what we were talking about earlier.
01:11:03
Speaker
Sorry.
01:11:04
Speaker
The nominal interest mentioned in the last episode, it was Robert Mueller has stated that he's taken the deposit money for Raza, placed in an escrow account similar to a deposit you might have on an apartment.
01:11:16
Speaker
This would mean that if it does not get fulfilled, then he gives you back the deposit plus whatever interest he earned with it being in the escrow account.
01:11:24
Speaker
Thank you for continuing to make great content.
01:11:26
Speaker
I hope to hear or see you guys at a show in the future.
01:11:30
Speaker
All right.
01:11:31
Speaker
It makes me feel a lot better that they only put down 10%.
01:11:35
Speaker
Like that makes me feel so much better.
01:11:37
Speaker
And that's like an okay amount of money.
01:11:40
Speaker
Wasn't that like the most logical thing?
01:11:43
Speaker
Yeah.
01:11:43
Speaker
Yeah.
01:11:43
Speaker
Okay.
01:11:44
Speaker
That's like half a topper.
01:11:45
Speaker
So yeah.
01:11:46
Speaker
Yeah.
01:11:46
Speaker
Yeah.
01:11:47
Speaker
No, I, I, that makes me, that makes me change my stance just marginally.
01:11:51
Speaker
And I do appreciate his point because Steve Bowden is like one of my favorite people in pinball.
01:11:57
Speaker
And so that really is, is,
01:12:00
Speaker
If, if, I mean, I don't know.
01:12:03
Speaker
I just don't know.
01:12:03
Speaker
I do think that it, that swayed me a little bit to change my mind.
01:12:07
Speaker
Yeah.
01:12:07
Speaker
I mean, if, if Deeproot folds, Steve Bowden better be the number one draft pick for other companies.
01:12:12
Speaker
Let's just put that out there.
01:12:13
Speaker
I mean, this is something that, that other guys need to have on their radar.
01:12:18
Speaker
But yeah.
01:12:19
Speaker
Is there such thing as a pinball headhunter?
01:12:21
Speaker
There should be.
01:12:22
Speaker
Maybe I need to have a new job.
01:12:23
Speaker
Yeah.
01:12:24
Speaker
Yeah.
01:12:24
Speaker
Get the talent.
01:12:26
Speaker
Right.
01:12:26
Speaker
Well, I've been the headhunter for Deep Root, but maybe something else.
01:12:33
Speaker
I really hope that these guys get their games and I hope they come out.
01:12:36
Speaker
Me too.
01:12:38
Speaker
Putting 10% down, it kind of hedges your bets that if this rarity of a pinball machine comes out, you'll be one of the 130 who have it.
01:12:47
Speaker
Um, so I get that, but I really feel for the people who are a hundred percent in because there are plenty of those.
01:12:52
Speaker
But what you don't know is that, uh,
01:12:55
Speaker
Mueller is actually bought 120 of those in hopes of flipping them for twice as much to finance his company later on.
01:13:03
Speaker
Oh, no.
01:13:05
Speaker
Oh, yeah.
01:13:06
Speaker
OK.
01:13:07
Speaker
I will say, though, that knowing or at least this guy saying that it's 10 percent down, it does make me feel a little better that they're not taking money from people.
01:13:19
Speaker
I still stand by all my previous assessments on they have absolutely zero clue on how to make anything.
01:13:27
Speaker
And and and even when Kerry Hardy went on Josh flipping and mashing, flipping and mashing.
01:13:36
Speaker
And he talked about it and his tour and going through and even something so basic as when he looked at the underside of the playfield, they hadn't color lined anything.
01:13:48
Speaker
And so it's like the same wiring everywhere.
01:13:52
Speaker
Could you imagine trying to work on that game?
01:13:54
Speaker
That tells me an extra level of, oh my gosh, this guy is clueless on how to make anything.
01:14:01
Speaker
A hundred percent.
01:14:02
Speaker
And another thing he said, which was a mind grenade, was that when they got all of these people to come out there to check out this game, the one game that they had that was built, or maybe there were two, I forget exactly what he said, but it didn't work.
01:14:16
Speaker
Like they turned it on and it didn't work from the get-go.
01:14:19
Speaker
I mean, this is their launch of the machine that they were trying to do.
01:14:23
Speaker
I don't know.
01:14:24
Speaker
What's especially crushing about all of this is that Deep Root did have some really forward thinking ideas.
01:14:30
Speaker
And there was a ton of like, whoa, that sounds like it's going to be awesome moments.
01:14:34
Speaker
You know, we may never see those come to fruition.
01:14:37
Speaker
Yeah, that's sad.
01:14:38
Speaker
You know, like a touchscreen and pinball, you know, new approaches to the play field and glass management.
01:14:44
Speaker
And like they're trying to be a Bally Williams of the new, you know, of now.
01:14:49
Speaker
Yeah.
01:14:50
Speaker
That's what people have been clamoring for for a long time.
01:14:52
Speaker
So, you know, they had some great themes.
01:14:55
Speaker
Food truck was a little questionable, but I was excited to see what Alistair was going to do with that.
01:15:00
Speaker
But if Deep Root doesn't make it, they're really missing out on, you know, a ton of great theme ideas and, you know, potential for all of those things that they were promising to be lost.
01:15:12
Speaker
And that's tough.
01:15:13
Speaker
That's sad.
01:15:15
Speaker
I think here's the problem though.
01:15:17
Speaker
I think Deep Root could still make it.
01:15:19
Speaker
Wow.
01:15:21
Speaker
I think the only thing holding them back at this point is having a manufacturing person.
01:15:27
Speaker
They need to have someone that knows the line because they've got everything else.
01:15:32
Speaker
They've got the talent.
01:15:33
Speaker
They've got the money.
01:15:35
Speaker
They just need to find someone to say, hey, this is where this goes and this is how we're going to make it.
01:15:42
Speaker
I, I, I, okay.
01:15:44
Speaker
Um, I, I disagree.
01:15:46
Speaker
I think that they are so far behind the eight ball, but unless he's willing, like how much is he spending on these salaries monthly?
01:15:54
Speaker
Billions.
01:15:55
Speaker
I don't know if it's that, but it's a lot.
01:15:56
Speaker
It is.
01:15:57
Speaker
How much do you get paid?
01:15:59
Speaker
Franchi?
01:15:59
Speaker
That's what I want.
01:16:00
Speaker
It is so far.
01:16:02
Speaker
Four years at this, right?
01:16:03
Speaker
Yeah.
01:16:04
Speaker
It is so far behind that.
01:16:06
Speaker
there is no chance that they're ever going to pull this thing out of a nosedive because if they are four years in and they haven't even, they haven't even hit the ground on having an order, like a procession on, okay, how do we make the machines?
01:16:24
Speaker
Like if you don't, if you have just a back room with some Harbor Freight twisty things and like a giant roll of,
01:16:34
Speaker
of yellow wiring or whatever, then I, what is that different than, than someone just making something in their garage?
01:16:43
Speaker
And then, then they had to take it and figure out like even Elwin who did Archer, he went to Stern and Stern basically had to look at it, retrofit everything, fix it and make it so it can be a mass produced game.
01:16:59
Speaker
Like they have nothing set up there.
01:17:02
Speaker
But that's the thing, though.
01:17:03
Speaker
But here's the thing, though.
01:17:04
Speaker
They have made a game.
01:17:05
Speaker
They made the Raza for the Houston Expo, whatever that was.
01:17:10
Speaker
And they've made the ones weren't working when they were there at the Deep Six were there.
01:17:16
Speaker
But they have shown that it now works with the pin bar.
01:17:20
Speaker
on TV, they did that whole thing for the news.
01:17:23
Speaker
So they obviously know how to make a game, at least one or two.
01:17:27
Speaker
My point being is, is if you're able to get it in a box, if you're able to do the software, if you're able to do all that stuff, your hiccup at this point is manufacturing.
01:17:36
Speaker
And so if you can get someone in there- That's a big hiccup though.
01:17:38
Speaker
That's like not like a little hiccup.
01:17:40
Speaker
That's like a gastro, like real big problem.
01:17:46
Speaker
I get that.
01:17:47
Speaker
But what I'm saying is if you just go out and hire someone that knows how to manufacture, I think that would help push you forward to solving your issues that you're having.
01:17:56
Speaker
Well, it's definitely not going to hurt.
01:17:57
Speaker
Do you think that's Deep Root's ultimate problem though is that Robert Mueller just felt like he could do everything, including manufacturing and marketing and everything else that he's been in charge of.
01:18:10
Speaker
And he's probably at his own behest that he's the one who wants to take charge on that.
01:18:16
Speaker
And he's just, even though he is incredibly talented as a businessman, he's clearly made a ton of money.
01:18:23
Speaker
And he's not 100% in all of these areas.
01:18:26
Speaker
And he's clearly in over his head.
01:18:31
Speaker
I don't know if it's that or if he was told... Because that's the thing, though, too.
01:18:35
Speaker
If you have a lot of money... Right now in Utah, people are selling NBA companies.
01:18:42
Speaker
They sold the Utah Jazz to a tech billionaire.
01:18:46
Speaker
And they're looking to sell the soccer team here in Utah.
01:18:50
Speaker
People invest in those that have money.
01:18:52
Speaker
The tech billionaire has no clue.
01:18:55
Speaker
He's never played professionally in the NBA.
01:18:57
Speaker
He's never...
01:19:00
Speaker
What he did, though, is he bought the company and then he's put the right people in the right positions.
01:19:05
Speaker
That's right.
01:19:06
Speaker
The tech billionaire doesn't buy the NBA team and then try to play for the team.
01:19:11
Speaker
And here's the thing.
01:19:12
Speaker
Did it take him four years to put those people in those positions or did it take him maybe four weeks?
01:19:17
Speaker
And how many of those people left?
01:19:20
Speaker
I don't know if that comes down to...
01:19:22
Speaker
if Papa Duke's really who's in charge on this one and Robert Mueller's just been eating everything he's been fed by Papa Duke and that's why we're at this point or if Mueller seriously was like...
01:19:34
Speaker
Yeah, I'm going to do it all and has been very hands-on with everything.
01:19:39
Speaker
I think it's more of option A. He's been fed a ton of stuff just like Papa Duke's done with everyone else.
01:19:46
Speaker
I don't know, man.
01:19:48
Speaker
Mueller is the guy who's been on the podcast.
01:19:50
Speaker
He's been putting out the marketing โ€“
01:19:54
Speaker
I mean, he's clearly the guy who wants to have his hands in everything, whether or not he's, you know, the only guy or not is the question.
01:20:03
Speaker
But Papaduke's been kind of in the shadows.
01:20:05
Speaker
Yeah, you can't lay this at Papaduke's feet.
01:20:07
Speaker
This is all... I think it's because Papaduke, I think after the interview with Coast to Coast...
01:20:12
Speaker
There was an agreement made that like Papa Duke would not be on anything ever again because of the things that he said.
01:20:19
Speaker
I mean, even that episode has been taken down and you can't find it anywhere.
01:20:22
Speaker
You could probably find someone that downloaded it.
01:20:25
Speaker
But for the most part, Papa Duke's been told to be silent.
01:20:30
Speaker
And it would be easy if you had a ton of money and been like, I can be the mouthpiece.
01:20:34
Speaker
And so I'll just take whatever he says, I'll filter it, and we'll make it sound good.
01:20:40
Speaker
Because a lot of this stuff is crazy, like quad manufacturing and octo manufacturing and โ€“
01:20:46
Speaker
Coming from a guy that's never done any of this before.
01:20:48
Speaker
You know what I'm saying?
01:20:49
Speaker
No manufacturing.
01:20:50
Speaker
He is an eighth grader with Trapper Keeper who has a design for a pinball machine, like saying, wouldn't this be cool?
01:20:57
Speaker
That's it.
01:21:00
Speaker
I want to know your opinion, Franchi, because you've been very silent in all this.
01:21:05
Speaker
Oh, boy.
01:21:06
Speaker
Well, well.
01:21:09
Speaker
I will explain my experience with Robert Mueller and that will lead me into what I feel about his company.
01:21:16
Speaker
And I will, I will cliff notes this as best I can.
01:21:20
Speaker
They reached out to me to do artwork for them.
01:21:24
Speaker
And at the time, I,
01:21:27
Speaker
that they, that they did it.
01:21:28
Speaker
I had just left Stern.
01:21:30
Speaker
I just sort of officially announced that I wasn't going to be working for Stern anymore, which is most likely why they contacted me.
01:21:37
Speaker
And so I'm like, well, yeah, I'm available.
01:21:42
Speaker
You know, I'd like to know more about what you guys, you know, are doing and et cetera.
01:21:46
Speaker
And he's like, okay, great.
01:21:47
Speaker
He goes, I'm going to call the guys in, was it Utah or I don't know.
01:21:51
Speaker
Yeah.
01:21:52
Speaker
There was one in Utah.
01:21:53
Speaker
Yeah.
01:21:54
Speaker
Animation office there.
01:21:56
Speaker
I'm going to call those guys.
01:21:58
Speaker
We will fly you out.
01:21:59
Speaker
We'll put you up at a hotel.
01:22:01
Speaker
All of this stuff.
01:22:03
Speaker
Let me call them and find out what's good for them.
01:22:06
Speaker
I'll call you right back and we'll set something up.
01:22:08
Speaker
And I'm like, okay.
01:22:10
Speaker
Six months, or I'm sorry, six weeks goes by.
01:22:13
Speaker
Six weeks.
01:22:14
Speaker
Not six hours, not six days.
01:22:16
Speaker
A month and a half.
01:22:18
Speaker
No word.
01:22:20
Speaker
I'm like, okay, well, I'm not traveling down that road because there apparently doesn't seem to be a road.
01:22:29
Speaker
And so I, talking to my mentor, Mr. Joe Kamenko, I agreed to go back to Stern.
01:22:39
Speaker
And then he calls me out of the blue.
01:22:42
Speaker
Mueller, that is, not Joe.
01:22:46
Speaker
And he's like, you know, okay, do you want to talk about this?
01:22:49
Speaker
And I'm like, I'm like, no, I'm like, dude, that was a month and a half ago.
01:22:54
Speaker
You know, I'm, I'm looking for work and you're like, you know, Hey, I'll call you right back and we'll fly out and all that.
01:22:59
Speaker
And a month and a half goes by.
01:23:02
Speaker
I said, if I, I said, things have been very wishy-washy with me and Stern.
01:23:06
Speaker
if things change, I'd be happy to talk to you, but, but right now I can't.
01:23:11
Speaker
And he goes, yeah, well, that's not going to happen.
01:23:13
Speaker
And I'm like, what do you mean?
01:23:14
Speaker
He goes, yeah, you're too flaky.

Listener's Interest in Original Themes

01:23:17
Speaker
So he calls me flaky because I couldn't wait longer than a month and a half to get a return phone call from him to, you know, to meet and work with him with no contact in between saying, Hey, I'm still working on it.
01:23:29
Speaker
Like nothing, just absolutely nothing.
01:23:32
Speaker
So I,
01:23:34
Speaker
And then so I tell this story on Canada's podcast.
01:23:38
Speaker
How did that happen?
01:23:40
Speaker
I tell the story on Canada's podcast.
01:23:42
Speaker
Robert Mueller comes on this show maybe two weeks after that.
01:23:47
Speaker
And Canada doesn't mention it at all.
01:23:49
Speaker
And when he's all done talking to Robert Mueller.
01:23:53
Speaker
He's basically winding out of, you know, he's like, okay, thanks for coming on the show, that kind of thing.
01:23:58
Speaker
Robert, like, oh, wait, there's one more thing I'd like to say here, and that's that you had Christopher Franchi on your show, and he said that I called him flaky and all that, and that's not true.
01:24:09
Speaker
And then he never offered an alternate.
01:24:11
Speaker
He just said basically that I lied.
01:24:14
Speaker
which I had no reason to lie.
01:24:16
Speaker
I had no reason at that time.
01:24:18
Speaker
I had no animosity against him, no reason to make up a story to make him look bad.
01:24:23
Speaker
I told the story that actually happened, and he called me a liar.
01:24:27
Speaker
And I'm like, okay, that's how this guy does business.
01:24:30
Speaker
Number one, he can't be wrong.
01:24:32
Speaker
He's going to point the finger to other people.
01:24:33
Speaker
He's going to make up bulls**t. Last thing you want to hear from a new company that's making you promises is that he's a bulls**t.
01:24:42
Speaker
You know, so I don't believe a word that the guy says.
01:24:46
Speaker
I think he's got Napoleon complex.
01:24:48
Speaker
I think he's a bad businessman when it comes to pinball.
01:24:52
Speaker
I think he shot his mouth off way too early.
01:24:55
Speaker
And I don't think that he's ever really made up for that.
01:24:57
Speaker
He's tried to be like, oh, well, I really learned my lesson.
01:25:00
Speaker
He's never come on and said, look.
01:25:03
Speaker
I said this to Jody Dankberg.
01:25:05
Speaker
I'm sorry.
01:25:06
Speaker
I made fun of Stern Pinball and said that we were going to blow them away.
01:25:09
Speaker
And I know that we can't.
01:25:11
Speaker
I'm sorry.
01:25:12
Speaker
He's never really made amends for what he's done.
01:25:15
Speaker
So I just don't like the guy.
01:25:17
Speaker
So when it comes to that company, I know most of the people that I know that work there left.
01:25:25
Speaker
The one guy that's still there, Steve Bowden, I wish he would leave because I want that company to crash and burn.
01:25:31
Speaker
I hate Scott Buehler.
01:25:36
Speaker
You hate, yeah, okay.
01:25:38
Speaker
How do you really feel though, Frenchie?
01:25:40
Speaker
Don't sugarcoat it.
01:25:43
Speaker
So my opinion on this whole thing, basically, removing that from the picture.
01:25:49
Speaker
is that there is just no trust.
01:25:53
Speaker
It's just like a relationship.
01:25:54
Speaker
It's just like a wedding, you know, a relationship between a man and woman, man and man and woman, whatever.
01:26:00
Speaker
If there's no trust, there's nothing.
01:26:02
Speaker
That's basically it.
01:26:04
Speaker
You can't, if you, you know, I've had people that I've dated and they've done something to make me lose their trust.
01:26:10
Speaker
You can't get it back.
01:26:12
Speaker
No matter how hard you try.
01:26:13
Speaker
I mean, maybe there's people out there that are capable of that.
01:26:16
Speaker
But for the most part,
01:26:18
Speaker
You know, you're right up front in a situation like this, and it's just like a relationship with, you know, people.
01:26:25
Speaker
You're given trust.
01:26:28
Speaker
And then it's your job to either cultivate that, make that grow, make it flourish, or to lose it and, you know, just disintegrate things.
01:26:38
Speaker
And everything that he's done in the past four years has disintegrated that trust that he was automatically given as a new upcoming pinball company.
01:26:48
Speaker
So without any trust, I don't see any point in doing business with the person.
01:26:53
Speaker
That's my opinion.
01:26:54
Speaker
I would never buy a single thing.
01:26:58
Speaker
I wouldn't put 10% down.
01:27:00
Speaker
I wouldn't put 5% down.
01:27:02
Speaker
I wouldn't put my list on a game.
01:27:03
Speaker
I just, in hopes that I might get it, you know, like it just, no, that's my opinion on Deep Root.
01:27:10
Speaker
You might've just out-Scotted Scott on the Deep Root thing.
01:27:15
Speaker
Yeah, he had actual information.
01:27:17
Speaker
I just had a rant, so...
01:27:19
Speaker
So the one thing I've learned from all of this is the smartest decision that they've made out of this whole process was to hire Steve Bowden.
01:27:27
Speaker
And if Steve Bowden were to leave Deep Root, if American Pinball or Stern Pinball or JJP were to say, hey, come work for us.
01:27:38
Speaker
We'll match or pay more than what Deep Root's paying.
01:27:41
Speaker
I think that would be the final straw on the camel's back.
01:27:45
Speaker
Because honestly...
01:27:47
Speaker
All this conversation I had behind the scenes with people that are in the know and stuff like that, it's seriously like... It's not like poor Deep Root.
01:27:54
Speaker
It's always poor Bowden.
01:27:56
Speaker
It's poor Steve.
01:27:57
Speaker
Yeah, absolutely.
01:27:57
Speaker
Poor Steve.
01:27:59
Speaker
To be honest, if you look at what has come out of Deep Root, I mean, it's so clear that Steve has poured his heart and soul into Raza.
01:28:06
Speaker
Like, he had multiple posts about the rules.
01:28:09
Speaker
He's got the whole backstory down.
01:28:11
Speaker
He's just...
01:28:13
Speaker
He knows that game inside and out because even though he came in halfway through, three quarters of the way through development of the game, he really put his mark on it.
01:28:22
Speaker
And it really seemed like it's going to shine because of Steve, not maybe because of the mechanics of the shots or whatever, but Steve has done a really good job at the rule set and we all can kind of see that.
01:28:34
Speaker
So he's fulfilled his promise to Deep Root in doing what he was brought on to do.
01:28:39
Speaker
But unfortunately, we're not going to really know if anyone else has if no other games come out.
01:28:44
Speaker
Like Barry Oussler, apparently Food Truck is out there.
01:28:47
Speaker
It's almost done.
01:28:49
Speaker
And Barry said he was excited to have that game come out and he's done some cool things with it.
01:28:54
Speaker
Whether we ever see what those things are or not, we'll...
01:28:58
Speaker
We'll have to see.
01:28:59
Speaker
I think a lot of it depends on how much money Robert wants to continue to sink into the company.
01:29:06
Speaker
Yeah.
01:29:06
Speaker
I wonder too if there has been some kind of non-compete clause that Bowden had to sign that would forbid him from going to any other company.
01:29:18
Speaker
Knowing Robert, it's probably in there.
01:29:19
Speaker
That's what I'm saying.
01:29:21
Speaker
With his legal background and whatnot,
01:29:24
Speaker
But if that were the case, though, I mean, you think Dennis Norman's kind of a mercenary.
01:29:29
Speaker
It depends on the contract.
01:29:30
Speaker
It depends on him.
01:29:31
Speaker
Yeah, I guess so.
01:29:34
Speaker
Honestly, I think if Bowden wasn't there, this would be a whole different story.
01:29:38
Speaker
You're right.
01:29:39
Speaker
I really think everyone would be kind of on the bandwagon with Scott and Franchi.
01:29:44
Speaker
I think that's the only reason I'm holding out hope.
01:29:46
Speaker
I have no money in Deep Root.
01:29:49
Speaker
And honestly, tomorrow, if they were closing door, the only thing that I would be sad about would be Bowden.
01:29:56
Speaker
Bowden is such a great guy.
01:29:59
Speaker
I don't know if he listens to our show or not, but seriously, I hope this bit gets to him or this part because the community loves Bowden because he loves the community.
01:30:10
Speaker
He is part of the best parts of this community.
01:30:13
Speaker
Yes.
01:30:14
Speaker
And I think that's why so many people like Teolis and just all these wonderful people that we get to talk to behind the scenes, like Franchi and Christian and Sarah, they just...
01:30:27
Speaker
They have such a high respect for Steve and what he has done for the community, for the industry.
01:30:34
Speaker
And it's just, I think that's the only reason we don't want to see this fail.
01:30:38
Speaker
I think we can all agree, though, that if this does fail, Bowden's going to be okay.

Deep Root's Downfall and Leadership Issues

01:30:43
Speaker
Because I think that any other company out there would be completely foolish not to pick him up.
01:30:49
Speaker
I can't believe he hasn't gotten picked up already, to be quite honest.
01:30:52
Speaker
So I don't know if, you know, I don't know.
01:30:57
Speaker
Well, he hasn't left.
01:30:58
Speaker
He's not really available.
01:30:59
Speaker
So it's, yeah.
01:31:01
Speaker
I just think that, okay.
01:31:04
Speaker
I've already said the chance of them actually being a successful company at this point are zero.
01:31:10
Speaker
Like it's never going to happen.
01:31:12
Speaker
This is going to go exactly down in the not every backstory is different, but this is going to be another Skip B. This is going to be another Zidware.
01:31:22
Speaker
This is going to be another Highway Pinball.
01:31:25
Speaker
This is going to be like all of these, you know, all of these wannabe startup companies that just never actually do anything.
01:31:36
Speaker
That's them.
01:31:36
Speaker
That's what they're going to be.
01:31:38
Speaker
Yeah, honestly, though, if this, I say if, not when, Deep Root fails, there's no way.
01:31:47
Speaker
There's no way that anyone picks up Papa Duke, right?
01:31:50
Speaker
Like, there's no other company that approaches him.
01:31:53
Speaker
There are other designers.
01:31:54
Speaker
You can develop new people without- But seriously, like-
01:32:01
Speaker
It's been a decade now, hasn't it, since Zidware?
01:32:03
Speaker
Yeah.
01:32:04
Speaker
It was around the Jersey Jack starting up with Wizard of Oz is when we started seeing Magic Girl and Foam Core Gate and all that crap, right?
01:32:12
Speaker
Like this has been going on for a decade.
01:32:14
Speaker
Yeah.
01:32:15
Speaker
At least.
01:32:16
Speaker
Yeah, he's done.
01:32:17
Speaker
There's no chance that he will design another pinball machine.
01:32:22
Speaker
I honestly, I genuinely want him on.
01:32:25
Speaker
I wish we could somehow, I don't care.
01:32:28
Speaker
I don't care if it's super awesome pinball show.
01:32:30
Speaker
I don't care if it's even Canada.
01:32:32
Speaker
I want to hear from Papa Duke.
01:32:33
Speaker
Cause we haven't heard from him in years.
01:32:34
Speaker
I want to hear how his mind operates because he,
01:32:39
Speaker
all this just, it's all hearsay.
01:32:42
Speaker
You know what I'm saying?
01:32:43
Speaker
Yeah.
01:32:44
Speaker
Like it's all, it's all down the, the tin can with the string.
01:32:48
Speaker
Like we're all just getting it secondhand.
01:32:50
Speaker
I want to know from the source.
01:32:51
Speaker
He won't do it.
01:32:53
Speaker
Yeah.
01:32:53
Speaker
I know.
01:32:53
Speaker
Not only, not only will Robert not let him for fear of, you know, damage to, to deep root, but he won't do it personally because he knows the questions will eventually get around to, you stole a bunch of money from people.
01:33:06
Speaker
Yeah.
01:33:06
Speaker
Yeah.
01:33:07
Speaker
And he just doesn't want to do it.
01:33:08
Speaker
And he was convicted of that.
01:33:10
Speaker
Like, he was actually convicted in a court of law.
01:33:13
Speaker
Well, honestly, I want to ask that question because it's obviously somewhat resolved with Robert Mueller and the paying out of the Zidware customers and stuff like that.
01:33:23
Speaker
Like, I want to know, like, his philosophy on all this stuff because it just, it doesn't make sense to me.
01:33:29
Speaker
Like, I don't know.
01:33:30
Speaker
Like I said, there's just a lot of it that I feel like there's unanswered questions.
01:33:35
Speaker
And the only person that's going to be able to answer them is Papa Duke.
01:33:38
Speaker
I don't think you're going to get a straight answer from him.
01:33:40
Speaker
He's a politician.
01:33:41
Speaker
He's a wordsmith.
01:33:43
Speaker
He's a salesman.
01:33:47
Speaker
It's never going to be the answer that you want, unfortunately.
01:33:50
Speaker
Yeah, you're probably right.
01:33:51
Speaker
And I know that it's not really an apt comparison because it's not the same thing.
01:33:55
Speaker
I totally get it.
01:33:56
Speaker
But when someone really...
01:34:00
Speaker
I'm trying to think of the right, nice, family-friendly way of saying this.
01:34:05
Speaker
When someone really crushes you on some level, right?
01:34:09
Speaker
What do you ultimately want?
01:34:11
Speaker
Is you want that person?
01:34:13
Speaker
Well, okay.
01:34:14
Speaker
Yes, yes.
01:34:15
Speaker
You want to sever his head and put it on a spike in front of your lawn and say, don't ever do that.
01:34:20
Speaker
No.
01:34:22
Speaker
You want them to feel what you're feeling.
01:34:26
Speaker
Right.
01:34:26
Speaker
And that's ultimately when a relationship disintegrates, you want that person to feel what you're going through because it's obviously painful.
01:34:35
Speaker
You're obviously feeling sorrow, but ultimately that stuff never happens.
01:34:40
Speaker
And so for, I think that what people, all the carcasses that Papadook has left in his wake, ultimately they want him to feel godly sorrow for what he has done.
01:34:55
Speaker
But I don't think that's ever going to happen.
01:34:58
Speaker
I don't either.
01:34:59
Speaker
There's lots of people in this, in this hobby, unfortunately, that have personality disorders and just don't feel empathy and don't feel, by the way.
01:35:07
Speaker
Yes.
01:35:08
Speaker
Yes.
01:35:09
Speaker
Yes.
01:35:11
Speaker
And unfortunately I think he may be one of them.
01:35:14
Speaker
So he's never going to give you the closure that you want.
01:35:16
Speaker
So it's almost better that he is in the shadows and isn't out there, you know, talking, talking smack.
01:35:23
Speaker
It's like mafia guys dying with secrets.
01:35:26
Speaker
Yeah, it would just make people more upset and angry, I think.
01:35:30
Speaker
Yeah, probably.
01:35:32
Speaker
I think you're right.
01:35:33
Speaker
So, I don't know.
01:35:35
Speaker
Someone pick up Bowden.
01:35:36
Speaker
Let's just close this chapter.
01:35:37
Speaker
Let's just call it good.
01:35:38
Speaker
Let's move on, yeah.
01:35:39
Speaker
Well, you know, America's pinball is hiring everybody.
01:35:42
Speaker
So is Jersey Jack.
01:35:44
Speaker
They need, yeah, you know, David Fix, you know, self-proclaims himself as, I shouldn't say self-proclaims himself, but agrees that he probably needs some
01:35:56
Speaker
Oh, what do you call that?
01:35:58
Speaker
When you open up your mouth and you go, oh, I probably shouldn't have said that.
01:36:01
Speaker
Damage control.
01:36:03
Speaker
Oh.
01:36:04
Speaker
So we let David do his job, which he's doing well, working well, hiring these people and all that.
01:36:08
Speaker
And then we put Steven out as the face of American pinball.
01:36:13
Speaker
That would be โ€“ I think that's brilliant.
01:36:15
Speaker
I really do because Steven would be fantastic on that front.
01:36:18
Speaker
Yeah, it puts both people in their prime position.
01:36:21
Speaker
David doing what he's doing behind the scenes, put Steven out in front.

Steve Bowden's Value and Podcast Perks

01:36:27
Speaker
Because, you know, Stephen's got a hug for everybody.
01:36:30
Speaker
You know, wouldn't you just buy anything he's selling?
01:36:33
Speaker
That's the thing.
01:36:34
Speaker
Can any company do better than a guy who everybody loves?
01:36:37
Speaker
I mean, it's a no-brainer.
01:36:40
Speaker
Oh, my goodness.
01:36:40
Speaker
Well, I'm glad that we were able to talk deep, Ru, and that you finally got to let your feelings out about that, Franchi, because I know that you've been dying to do that.
01:36:48
Speaker
Yeah.
01:36:48
Speaker
Oh, you should have heard some of the rants.
01:36:50
Speaker
I'm like, I wish I saved them.
01:36:51
Speaker
Actually, I do still have them.
01:36:53
Speaker
I have all the master recordings.
01:36:54
Speaker
I could go...
01:36:55
Speaker
Don't go there.
01:36:57
Speaker
Do not go there.
01:36:58
Speaker
I was thinking the other day.
01:36:59
Speaker
Don't relive the past.
01:37:00
Speaker
Don't relive the past.
01:37:01
Speaker
When we stopped our show, I was like, you know what?
01:37:03
Speaker
One of the best parts of doing the Super Awesome Pinball Show was all of the stuff that we couldn't air.
01:37:09
Speaker
You know, the hours that we had with Jeremy Packer and with Roger Sharp and with a bunch of other big names that โ€“
01:37:16
Speaker
are just either for NDA reasons or political reasons we couldn't air.
01:37:22
Speaker
We just learned so much cool stuff and it was just great to shoot the breeze with these guys and hear all of their backstories.
01:37:29
Speaker
So, you know, podcasting does pay, even though a lot of podcasters say it doesn't.
01:37:34
Speaker
It pays you in the sense that you get that stuff that no one else really does.

Promotion and Listener Stories

01:37:40
Speaker
So I enjoy that.
01:37:41
Speaker
And I'm really glad that the Loser Kids are keeping on on the regular scheduled every two weeks because you guys put out a phenomenal show.
01:37:51
Speaker
I know Franchi and I are both fans and we listen every time.
01:37:54
Speaker
Hello.
01:37:55
Speaker
Oh, sorry.
01:37:56
Speaker
And Mrs. Penn.
01:37:57
Speaker
What the heck?
01:37:59
Speaker
What's wrong with you?
01:38:00
Speaker
You don't listen to podcasts religiously like we do.
01:38:02
Speaker
Yeah.
01:38:03
Speaker
I don't care.
01:38:03
Speaker
It doesn't mean I'm not a fan.
01:38:06
Speaker
I wear their swag all the time.
01:38:09
Speaker
She may even be the ultimate Loser Kid fan because she truly does live in that shirt.
01:38:14
Speaker
Everyone at my school is like, what's Loser Kid?
01:38:17
Speaker
I'm like, it's this great podcast.
01:38:19
Speaker
I am seriously spreading your message to all of the third graders I know.
01:38:26
Speaker
You might have to fight Elwin for that because I know that someone came to me that works at Stern and was like, Josh, do you realize, seriously, Elwin always is wearing your hat.
01:38:35
Speaker
I'm like, no, he's not.
01:38:37
Speaker
If I could just make a suggestion and ask if you guys could maybe get him on your show once in a while, that would be great.
01:38:43
Speaker
I know.
01:38:44
Speaker
He doesn't return again.
01:38:46
Speaker
Hey, Sarah, have you worn the Loser Kid earrings that you help make?
01:38:50
Speaker
Yes, I kept a pair for myself.
01:38:53
Speaker
I think I actually might have kept two just in case.
01:38:55
Speaker
I have a tendency to lose earrings.
01:38:58
Speaker
So sometimes I keep two pairs.
01:39:00
Speaker
Yeah, so that's actually my favorite part of the story is that on one of those sticker mule things, I got all these small cutout things and I was planning on giving these out and I just haven't got around to it.
01:39:12
Speaker
But I am not a crafty person.
01:39:15
Speaker
So I sent it to Crafterella.
01:39:17
Speaker
Mm-hmm.
01:39:18
Speaker
And Mrs. Penn, I'll earring them up.
01:39:21
Speaker
And so if you really want that way of letting your significant other have like that gift that you just don't know what else is cool, we have Loser Kid Pinball Earrings.
01:39:33
Speaker
There you go.
01:39:33
Speaker
Totally not getting that.
01:39:35
Speaker
For all the womps.
01:39:37
Speaker
Hey, no, no.
01:39:39
Speaker
If you're a dude and you want to rock these earrings, I will give them to you personally.
01:39:42
Speaker
That sounds good to me.
01:39:45
Speaker
Yeah.
01:39:45
Speaker
Put them in your nose.
01:39:46
Speaker
Wouldn't that be cool?
01:39:48
Speaker
Dangle it.
01:39:49
Speaker
Dangle it right from your schnoz.
01:39:52
Speaker
I have one hole.
01:39:53
Speaker
I do my left ear pierce, but I have a nipple ringing right now.
01:39:57
Speaker
I actually, this is probably, Sarah's going to discuss it right now.
01:40:01
Speaker
We can already say, you probably shouldn't say it.
01:40:04
Speaker
No, it's not that bad.
01:40:06
Speaker
If it's not that bad, it's bad.
01:40:09
Speaker
It's not that bad.
01:40:10
Speaker
I, well, I've had my ear pierced, my left ear pierced since like high school, but.
01:40:16
Speaker
I think about 10 years ago, a girl that I knew was having this, like, you know, a daughter of one of my friends was having this like jewelry sale.
01:40:23
Speaker
And so I'm like, I'll come over, you know, it's, you know, you want to give to the kids, you know?
01:40:28
Speaker
So I look through and I find this here.
01:40:31
Speaker
I'm like, Oh, Oh, I mean, do you have one of these?
01:40:33
Speaker
Like, this looks a little wide.
01:40:35
Speaker
It was a little hoop with a ball on it.
01:40:36
Speaker
And I'm like, this looks a little wide.
01:40:38
Speaker
Do you have one of these things?
01:40:39
Speaker
She goes, no.
01:40:39
Speaker
She goes, she goes, that's actually a nipple ring.
01:40:43
Speaker
I'm like, oh, really?
01:40:43
Speaker
So I bought it and I put it in.
01:40:46
Speaker
And it was a little wide.
01:40:47
Speaker
I had it like my ear.
01:40:48
Speaker
Okay.
01:40:48
Speaker
In your ear or your nipple?

Humorous Personal Anecdotes

01:40:50
Speaker
In my ear.
01:40:51
Speaker
And it was a little wide.
01:40:53
Speaker
It hurt for a little while.
01:40:54
Speaker
But I have not taken it out since then.
01:40:56
Speaker
It's been in my ear for 10 years.
01:40:59
Speaker
Wow, dad.
01:41:00
Speaker
That's an exclusive.
01:41:01
Speaker
Loser Kid podcast exclusive.
01:41:03
Speaker
He's got a nipple ring in his ear.
01:41:05
Speaker
If you ever want to really truly know Franchi's history, you need to have him send you his high school glamour shot where he's in his rocker phase.
01:41:15
Speaker
It is truly something to be seen.
01:41:18
Speaker
You have to be really good friends with him because he doesn't want it out there.
01:41:22
Speaker
But if you're friends with him and he can trust you, you will see something that is truly epic.
01:41:27
Speaker
Dude, I was in show choir.
01:41:29
Speaker
I have, I have like pictures of me with sequined vest and clogging shoes.
01:41:36
Speaker
I wouldn't even share that with Christian if that was me.
01:41:38
Speaker
Yeah, if that isn't a vision, I don't know what is.
01:41:42
Speaker
If you've ever seen that picture of the rock where he's like a high school guy leaning against the staircase with that white t-shirt on.
01:41:47
Speaker
With a fanny pack.
01:41:48
Speaker
It's an equivalent picture of that.
01:41:51
Speaker
That's like my space camp pictures.
01:41:53
Speaker
Yes.
01:41:53
Speaker
Yeah.
01:41:54
Speaker
You were hot even back then.
01:41:56
Speaker
You went to space camp?
01:41:57
Speaker
Heck yeah.
01:41:57
Speaker
You went to space camp?
01:41:58
Speaker
I sure did.
01:41:59
Speaker
I totally, I want to go to space camp.
01:42:01
Speaker
I know, in Canada too.
01:42:03
Speaker
Who couldn't love a girl that went to space camp?
01:42:06
Speaker
Extra legit.
01:42:06
Speaker
Not me.
01:42:07
Speaker
Windbreakers, scrunchies, it was awesome.
01:42:10
Speaker
Psy ponies.
01:42:12
Speaker
All right.
01:42:14
Speaker
Let's wrap this up.
01:42:15
Speaker
Cause it's, it's, it's midnight for you guys.
01:42:19
Speaker
Um, we really appreciate you coming on the show.

Super Awesome Pinball Show Merchandise

01:42:22
Speaker
Uh, how can, how can people reach you if you want to be, to be reached?
01:42:25
Speaker
We still have the Facebook page open.
01:42:27
Speaker
Cause we weren't, cause we all along, we weren't planning on really going anywhere.
01:42:31
Speaker
So, um, that and our, our email, which is a super awesome pinball at gmail.com and our respective personal pages.
01:42:41
Speaker
We've got about 25 episodes of Super Awesome Pinball Show out there if you want to catch up.
01:42:46
Speaker
And Mrs. Pin has what, 85?
01:42:47
Speaker
85.
01:42:48
Speaker
85 apps.
01:42:50
Speaker
All right.
01:42:50
Speaker
And also on Cointaker, you can go and there's a link that says Super Awesome.
01:42:55
Speaker
And there are five shirts available.
01:42:56
Speaker
And I've got my eye on the silver baller.
01:42:58
Speaker
Very nice.
01:43:00
Speaker
Oh, yes.
01:43:00
Speaker
We're going to have some new ones coming out.
01:43:02
Speaker
Those are just about gone.
01:43:03
Speaker
So my advice to you is order soon if you want to get it.
01:43:08
Speaker
I already have one of them.
01:43:09
Speaker
I have the original one with the Super Awesome Pinball Show.
01:43:12
Speaker
So now I'm going to get the Silver Baller.
01:43:14
Speaker
Yeah, and then there's Silver Ball Swag, too, our logo on there.
01:43:19
Speaker
That's where we do the monthly t-shirt club.
01:43:24
Speaker
It's not a club where you have to join and you're forced to get a shirt every month.
01:43:28
Speaker
We just offer a new one.
01:43:29
Speaker
If you recruit four friends, you get a t-shirt.
01:43:32
Speaker
Yeah, just every month we come out with a...
01:43:34
Speaker
And we've already got people crying because they missed some of the past ones.
01:43:38
Speaker
And I'm like, everyone told you up front, it's a monthly thing.
01:43:41
Speaker
Once they're done, they're done.
01:43:42
Speaker
That's the exclusivity.
01:43:44
Speaker
So we're still, we're still doing that.
01:43:46
Speaker
So you can go to, and we've got our other junk up there too.
01:43:49
Speaker
Incidentally, all this other stuff we're doing, like with, you know, the, the new show that's centered around the game reveals and the fireside chats and all that, all that stuff's branded under super awesome.
01:44:00
Speaker
So it's all going to be a super awesome show product.
01:44:04
Speaker
You know, so that, that name, that logo is not going anywhere.
01:44:07
Speaker
Awesome.
01:44:08
Speaker
Awesome.
01:44:08
Speaker
Awesome.
01:44:09
Speaker
I'm excited.
01:44:10
Speaker
I'm excited that you guys are going to still be doing some stuff.
01:44:12
Speaker
So yeah, we can't, we can't say goodbye for, for good because you can say our, we

Podcast Camaraderie and Future Content

01:44:18
Speaker
have too much fun.
01:44:18
Speaker
I mean, Christian and I, like, I just, I miss it.
01:44:21
Speaker
Not because we're not putting out a product, but because I miss doing, you know, sitting down and recording with Christian, you know, every other week.
01:44:28
Speaker
That was the best part of the show.
01:44:29
Speaker
Honestly, it was just, it was hanging out, talking pinball and having a few drinks.
01:44:33
Speaker
And and just having before and after.
01:44:36
Speaker
Oh, my God.
01:44:37
Speaker
Banter we didn't record.
01:44:38
Speaker
There was at least an hour of just randomness after every episode that is really probably where the best stuff was that we never just put out.
01:44:47
Speaker
But lots of laughs and good times.
01:44:49
Speaker
And just to tease, just to tease.
01:44:51
Speaker
I'm hoping I'm hoping the first fireside chat is going to be with Mr. George Gomez.
01:44:58
Speaker
George is so great.
01:44:59
Speaker
Yeah.
01:45:00
Speaker
Tell George I will.
01:45:04
Speaker
Alrighty.
