Podcast Begins: Solo Due to Car Troubles

00:00:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm assuming that played. I couldn't hear any of it. and And it's just me. Yes, after having Michael solo yesterday because of my transport difficulties um and then computer difficulties, I am alone tonight because poor old Michael is stuck on a roundabout and has been for the last three and a half hours with a coolant problem in his car and the AA proving that debt they do prioritise any woman anywhere in the country who's broken down before they come and find the solo gentleman drivers because they've still not seen him he's still not home and it's left for me to document where we are on July the 1st and what a lot of stuff has happened today um not all of it really making Newcastle look uh super professional in a wonderful light um July the 1st the official day of the kit launch for the third kit
00:01:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
heralded by a yeah very good promotional video.

Kit Launch and Symbol Error Controversy

00:01:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Really enjoyed watching that, seeing Hino Espria, Jonas Gutierrez, joining in with very relaxed looking Alex Izak and Anthony Gordon, Bruno and Tonari, all involved as well.
00:01:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
And Sam Fender, who I believe is one of these new stars, famous for being a Newcastle supporter. And Big Dan Byrne, of course. It's a great video. It was nice, and I enjoyed it.
00:01:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
And I loved, on the Newcastle website, where you can see the behind-the-scenes footage in about a 12 or 13-minute sort of um peep behind the curtain of the making of that.
00:01:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
All's well and good, and it's a lovely kit, by the way. I feel I ought to catalogue from the Daily Newcastle perspective. I love the kit. Kevin loved the kit.
00:02:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Nicola has already placed an order for the third kit which is the navy and orange kit Michael however hates it he doesn't like the badge and the black shield it's just a complete no-no deal breaker for him and Joanne refuses to acknowledge that orange is a colour that would appear on any article of clothing because it clashes with but a ginger hair I think that's Too arbitrary to go on. Come on.
00:02:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
You'll love it once you've seen the lads winning away in the Champions League wearing it. and But anyway, lovely video. Unfortunately, it's been deleted.
00:02:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's been withdrawn. ah Inadvertently, in that video, we did a mock-up of the Japanese Rising Sun flag with the Newcastle emblem in the middle and held it up.
00:03:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
take the full screen for a second or two, not realizing that, um unfortunately, that symbol is synonymous with the Japanese World War II guys who invaded South Korea and pleaded them rather briefly as they occupied South Korea and therefore to South Koreans it is a really, really ah offensive image akin to the Nazi swastika to us for them to see and of course in a couple of weeks we're heading off to play in South Korea trying to boost our popularity in the Far East um I'm not sure that uh that will have done anything to help foster Newcastle South Korean relations it's been withdrawn straight away as soon as their error has been pointed out no doubt we will see a
00:03:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
edited version that will come back out because the rest of it's lovely, I promise. um But I can't help coming away thinking, surely somebody would have known that, somebody should have known that, in all of the checks that they'll have gone through, that it's okay from Newcastle, from Adidas.
00:04:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Somebody, somebody you'd think would have picked that up and said it was a bit of a no-no, particularly given how sensitive it is in one of the areas we are targeting to foster relations with this summer.
00:04:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
But they didn't. And so, to be honest, along with the whole load of other things that are happening this week, Newcastle ended up looking a bit silly.

Fan Community: Kit Pricing and Preferences

00:04:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
But at least they put it right.
00:04:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
So let's move on from that and enjoy the kit, particularly you, Nicola, when it comes um I don't know if I would buy one.
00:04:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
but and I don't know. They're expensive. But the long-sleeved one and the professional one, it's over £100. and as You're already going to get a first-team kit and a second-team kit. That's a lot of money to start laying out.
00:05:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
But it is probably a tired argument. If you want it, you'll have it. And if you prioritise your Newcastle memorabilia, you'll be getting one.
00:05:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Anyway, don't really want to say any more about 13 kit. Apart from that, little faux pas. Generally, we vote 3-2 for it, but Michael and Joanne really hate it, so maybe we're split.
00:05:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm going to play Bionique now and come back in part two with a little bit of an update on what's going on in the transfer window.
00:06:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
I have absolutely no idea if it's

Transfer Strategies: Challenges and Missed Opportunities

00:06:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
playing or not because it's not playing on my machine, which is a bit of a shame. And I remember watching Michael's solo pod from yesterday this morning and there were no others playing in that as well. So who knows what happened?
00:06:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
I wonder if I just talked all over it as well. I'm not sure. The light went out. If I did, I apologise. It's Bionique. It's Ken. It's Cristiano Ronaldo's pals. And they do personalised supplements that are very, very good for you.
00:06:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Sex. The link in the show description, once you finish listening to it. ah Part two, anyway, what's been going on in the transfer window.
00:06:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
We thought we were going to see lots and lots of activity yesterday. Rumours were that Atten Villa were going to have a fire sale because they needed to sell players like we had to sell Minter and Anderson last year.
00:06:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
But it instead, they have sold the warehouse and their ladies team and raised $100 million through doing that. and don't have to sell any players. So my dreams of getting a knockdown value Esri Confer have gone out of the window.
00:07:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Jacob Ramsey has never been mentioned. ah To be honest, you'd think they would rather get rid of Jacob Ramsey than that very useful warehouse that they had. and Because you can only do that once. If you're in trouble, you can only do that once. And if you've got sellable player assets, maybe that is preferable.
00:07:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
and than the sort of parachute of selling the ladies team, which as I say, you could only do one time. Chelsea obviously already did it. Villa have done it now. They're playing the system um and they can raise big numbers because they've got quite well-developed, comparatively well-developed ladies teams that they can ah assign a ah massive future value to.
00:08:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
um I know Newcastle could do it, but they wouldn't be able to assign anywhere near the same value just yet. because our ladies team is moving through the ranks. I know they're moving through the ranks very quickly, but they still haven't made it up to the Premier League level yet.
00:08:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
So we wouldn't be able to raise much anyway, but we don't need to because we are clear for PSR and therefore ready to strike.

Right-Winger Search: European vs. Premier League Options

00:08:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Now we're into July the 1st and the main transfer window, which is open.
00:08:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
um
00:08:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
45 million bid for Anthony Alanga was rejected as we spoke about a or two ago but news today that we have gone back in with a 50 million pounds plus extra bid for Anthony Alanga and he certainly seems as if he is the the main man now it's persistent and consistent of Newcastle to go back with a slightly improved bid rather disappointingly news also that Aston Villa are quite and interested in him and this is a little bit of a recurring theme this week and particularly today as we work our way through targets disappearing and joining other players some of the ones that we have been linked with but haven't really been taken very seriously are gradually working their way closer to the top of the list I'm including in those
00:09:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Well, first of all, i mean I was including in those Semenya at Bournemouth. I read that he has signed a contract extension at Bournemouth, so it doesn't look as if he's going to go anywhere this summer.
00:09:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
But yes, Kouda, that we were interested in um at West Ham, apparently not as expensive as we thought he might be. if he's available around about 60 million. Fabulous player, a player that we were looking at before he joined West Ham as well.
00:09:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
um
00:09:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
But now... now quite high up on the Tottenham target list, I believe. um And that's still London, and he's in London, and we've already felt the power of the London team in our negotiations for closet Chelsea fan and João Pedro.
00:10:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
um So yes, so Kudus, which we might turn up office for, he's disappeared. There was another one. There was another right winger who I've forgotten that we were maybe going to go after.
00:10:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
And anyway, it's Arsenal that are looking at him. Madueke at Chelsea, that's the man, who another right winger who we have been linked with. um And again, would be a good addition to the squad. Certainly would be a good competition for Jacob Murphy and give us more depth.
00:10:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
across from right-hand side, any of these guys would be. Let's be honest, since Almiron went, there's nobody challenging Jacob Murphy for that right-wing position unless you play a Gordon or Barnes out-of-position, and neither of those guys but would want that.
00:11:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
and So we do need a right-winger.
00:11:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well, bit loathe to say this because I'm not really sure why. I know we we talked about it earlier in the week. most of Eddie Howe's good picks that have come into Newcastle since we've been there have come out of Europe and I'm unsure why we are not hunting around in Europe. um We must have good contacts there, we must have our finger on the pulse but even without our finger on the pulse there are two fabulous right-wingers across there who both who are available neither of which would cost as much as
00:11:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
um
00:11:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Elange or Madweke for that but point. um And I'm not sure why we're not chasing after them. and I will log them having watched a very good YouTube video by Antonio Mango today.
00:12:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
Well done. I do enjoy his videos. um He highlighted six European wingers that were worth going after, but there's two at the top of the list. I don't know why we're not into them ahead of the Langer, personally.
00:12:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
Firstly, Bakayoko, who I think is at Leipzig. Is he at Leipzig? Oh, I don't know where Bakayoko is. I do apologise. He's going to have done the research. I did do the research.
00:12:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
I just didn't write it down. um No, Bakayoko is not. He's at PSV. So there's him, who apparently is around 30 million, and we've looked at him a lot. We've tracked him.
00:12:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
Why we not going for that 30 million? At least we've got player in. um
00:12:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
The one I was going to talk about, which I do like the look of, Davi Simons. Probably not just on the right wing, but but but a very good player right attacking player.
00:13:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's the guy at Leipzig. And he would be available at £60 million. Nobody mentioning him yet. He wants to get into a Champions League team. He'd love to come into the Premier League.
00:13:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
i mean, come on. It's set up for us. Let's go and get him. Slightly below that level, I think, but maybe not. And if you want a rapid winger, then why not go to Borussia Dortmund, I think?
00:13:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's so bad at this research game. Borussia Dortmund and Smassel Adeyemi, who was very good against us when we played Dortmund. He's got Champions League experience right through to playing in the final, and he is super, super fan.
00:13:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
um and a very good player. Why are we not chasing after P's instead of sitting in the queue waiting to be rejected by another Premier League player who would like to stay in London? and and On that, um having sat there for five weeks courting João Pedro and then watching Chelsea spend five hours to chat through the deal, sign him up, get his These are organised and sent off to actually play in the latter of stages of the World Cup finals.
00:14:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
Let's just leave that. Let's not do that again. Let's be quick. Let's go after these guys that nobody is talking about yet.

Market Dynamics and Newcastle's Transfer Hopes

00:15:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
I was so pleased that I've been able to get the second advert in because I didn't think I had enough to talk about to split it into three parts. and by the brevity of this last part, you will know that I didn't.
00:15:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
um However, there are still one or two points further that I would like to log in our Clamster Diary, which is, as I say, probably more useful in logging all of the things that can get in the way of very keen and eager individuals making a daily podcast.
00:16:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
um
00:16:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
In the wider transfer market, they're still playing musical chairs with strikers. Arsenal apparently you are waiting for SESCO or Jocarest to come.
00:16:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Man United are sniffing around Jokic Reyes, but come on. and Liverpool, having possibly turned their attentions away from Alex Zizac, have entered the race to get ah Hugo Eketike, who I believe iss going to be fairly close to 100 million.
00:16:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
I mean, it's probably 80, 85 million to get him. to get him and that obviously is a player who we were after right back in that first when Bruno came what is that three years ago now and he goes to go to PSG and not play for a year rather than come to us but I think the fee we were talking about was about 20 million so he could have been a fabulous asset there and got more more game time so Liverpool entering race for FNPK hopefully They'll get him and they'll leave Alex Izak alone. and Because of all of the yeah English teams, I think Liverpool have got the assets that they were able to sell to raise enough money to put a bid that we have to look at for Izak.
00:17:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
But we don't need to. we don't need We don't need to do that um unless it's a ridiculous amount of money. And that's what I mean. Sell Nunes, sell Diaz, sell Harvey Elliott.
00:17:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
and Ben Doak is raising 10 million for them. Callagher has already raised 18 million for them. That adds through to pretty much 200 million.
00:18:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
And anybody's got to look at an offer like that for a player. Even us. Even partisanists who don't want to lose our hero. Oh, finger cost.
00:18:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
They'll buy Eckertike and they'll leave him alone. um Can't think of any other stuff that's going on yet, but it's only been July the 1st.
00:18:28
Global Sports Podcast Network
There's nothing else happening. No news on James Crawford yet. We thought that might have been sticking in um on the 30th of June yesterday, so that Bernie fixed their supposed PSR issue.
00:18:41
Global Sports Podcast Network
Does that mean that, does that mean that they're going to have a points deduction or does it mean that they haven't really got PSR issues anyway? Or are they, sold their under 15 teams for the 20 million that they were short.
00:18:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
Who knows? um I'm getting a little bit cynical about this transfer actually. I don't know what we're doing. I do know that following on from Joe Pedro and Chelsea making us look like chumps, this capital error in the third kit launch video has just exacerbated that.
00:19:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
And we need some decisive action. We need something out of the blue to correct that. Because in my head, all the other players that are looking to move are looking at what's happening in the transfer market.
00:19:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
And they just see Newcastle being turned down. It can't be good. You know, and even Dominic Calvert-Lewin might be having second thoughts if he got off of the place here.
00:19:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
Who knows? I'm going leave you with that awful thought. and hopefully we'll be joined by or two of my colleagues tomorrow when we might have some real news to report.
