Welcome and Introductions

Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello everyone and welcome back to the Daily Manchester United. We're here at the start of a well brand new week on a Monday, Tuesday. Whenever you listen to this, we're happy to be here with you. My name's Kieran and there's another returnee returning after his injury.
00:00:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Let's call it that. It's Sam

Sam Brady's Return

00:00:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Brady. Sam, welcome back to the pod. Great to have you back.
00:00:34
Sam Brady
Yes, I'm back. Yeah, really happy to be back. Obviously, eagle-eyed viewers might notice ah a bit of a different backdrop ah yeah I've been away, sort of moving into a new place, starting starting a new job and being ill. and Everything together as has made me be away, but I'm glad to be back now and better than ever. so Let's

International Break Performances

00:01:00
Sam Brady
go.
00:01:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Going to hit the ground running for the new season. I love it, Sam. I love it. um And speaking of you know hitting the ground running, we'll have a look at some players here who have done well for international football, as of course, it's the longest international break in history.
00:01:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
They are needed, though, apparently, international breaks. But we'll leave that with you. There's an article I'm reading here by Matthew Holt from the Manchester United official website that says about and sums up Sesko's involvement for Slovenia, where he played 90 minutes in a 0-0 draw with Kosovo in World Cup qualifying on Friday, with written here his best attempt coming in the 81st minute as he controlled the ball inside the area, but his shot was just too high to trouble former Burnley keeper Arjanet Muric.
00:01:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
Sesko, he's been in pretty good form. especially coming into this international break. But Australia didn't score internationally against Kosovo, a team I would have thought Slovenia should have at least put a couple past.
00:01:56
Sam Brady
Yeah, I mean, obviously yeah I've been away, but the one thing that hasn't changed, i haven't taken my eye off off the games, of course.

Investment in Players: Is It Worth It?

00:02:05
Sam Brady
um And it's it's a tough one with Sasko.
00:02:09
Sam Brady
I don't know where I'm at with him, whether I like him, whether I don't like him. I haven't made my mind up yet, to be honest. um Obviously, it's two and two coming into the international break.
00:02:21
Sam Brady
One against Brentford, I believe, one against Sunderland. um Yeah, I mean, ah think he i mean he he started okay. I wouldn't say it was the greatest start.
00:02:34
Sam Brady
And I do have concerns, obviously, that, look, we've spent a lot of money on the likes of Hoyland, for example, who who didn't seem to really...
00:02:45
Sam Brady
turn out the way we wanted to. And now we've spent a lot of money on an unpro on and on another unproven striker. So I am yet to sort of make my my judgment on him.
00:02:58
Sam Brady
Considering that I've made my judgment on a few of the other players, I think, yeah, I think Cesco is one of them where, for me anyway, he's still a bit up in the air. Come back to me maybe...
00:03:10
Sam Brady
by the bye Christmas. And I think by the new year, if he hasn't really, you know, hit the ground running and and got a few goals and under his belt, then I think we we have to start questioning him, and especially because he is obviously our our only focusal focus, our only focus.
00:03:32
Sam Brady
number one striker at the minute, really. and So, yeah, I think it's it's one of them where i think most United fans, I would hope as well, would agree that, look, not the not the greatest start, but look, give give him time, I guess.
00:03:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think so. He's shown promise,

Striker Roles and Performances

00:03:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
hasn't he? I mean, in build-up play, he's been pretty good. I think he's, you know, mean, six foot five. ah You know, in the air, he's gonna but he's he's shown some promise there.
00:03:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
I do think there is a player in him. I think, you know... any Manchester United player is going to come under so much scrutiny from all angles, more scrutiny than probably any other player in the world. you know, not even ah Jude Bellingham has gone through the same levels of scrutiny and he's playing for, you know Galacticos in Spain.
00:04:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
So, I think there's always going to be the microscope on him. But as you say, he started to build up form before the winter or the winter break, the international break. I feel like that's a good starting place, you know, to to get the goals there, to build up form, build up confidence as well.
00:04:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
The point if it's of this, you know, the way that Ruben Amarin plays is that the striker really needs to do a lot. They need to be strong on the ball. They need to be reading the game really well. They also need to be really good with their feet as well.
00:04:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
If it happens, they need to hold up the play and bring the attacking midfielders into play. Maybe even see the overlap of the wingbacks on the left and the right hand side. It's a lot for a striker to do in that advanced position as well as take shots on goal.
00:05:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
And Yeah, the goal he scored where it took him three bites the cherry to to actually get the goal. Look, it it took three bites, but at least he got the goal in the end. um But I think that was just such a ah massive weight off his shoulder, getting that first United goal.
00:05:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
It just seemed to give him a little bit of confidence. I'm hoping he can take that into the game against Liverpool. And, you know, hopefully it won't be, ah you know, the the massive drubbing that it may be. But Liverpool in the greatest of forms. They'll want to hit us where it hurts.
00:05:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's for sure.

Player Scrutiny and Comparisons

00:05:32
Sam Brady
Yeah, and what I was going to say, Kieran, sorry, is with a player like Cesc, who's obviously coming into a new league and, like, obviously he's only had a handful of games for United, it's hard to assess really what his level is considering how bad we are.
00:05:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Yeah.
00:05:50
Sam Brady
So it's like you can judge a few of the other players because they've proved it time and time again how bad they are. But with Cesc, You can't say he's that bad yet, you know, because look, a few of the others, we've we've named name we've named names in the past. um And now, to be honest, you know how feel about armouring. Maybe we save that for for another...
00:06:16
Sam Brady
ah episode because obviously my opinions have changed drastically since I've last been on about about our head coach but yeah with Sesco it's hard to judge because we're so bad at the minute that with a player like Sesco where you've only seen handful of games of him really it's hard as I said it's hard to judge where he's really at at the minute
00:06:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Our resident optimist is back in the house. Welcome him. Give him a cheer and an applause as he walks back in.
00:06:43
Sam Brady
don't know Thank you.
00:06:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's like he never left.
00:06:47
Sam Brady
cool
00:06:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah More international reds coming up as well. And an article also on the official Manchester United ways website by Isaac Stacey Strong talking about the likes of of Patrick Dorgu playing for... Denmark ah alongside our out-on-loan striker Rasmus Hojland.
00:07:06
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hojland himself ah netted just over 20 minutes on the clock, so that was good to see from him. I mean, nice to see him actually get some goal-scoring form. That probably does mean that I believe there is a clause in Hojland's loan deal that if Napoli qualify for the Champions League, that deal becomes permanent.
00:07:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
So it's pretty much already we've said goodbye to... to Hoyland there but it's good to see him do that.
00:07:28
Sam Brady
Yeah, exactly.
00:07:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Dorka got 76 minutes on the board ah before he was substituted and also the Portugal game I mean against the Republic of Ireland I mean this is a sore spot it's going to be for Nile and Cormac if they're listening on or watching on but Ireland held firm and that Keevan Keller has some shot stopper you know that's two former United players now he's denied from the spot and his last three penalties.
00:07:57
Sam Brady
Yeah, I mean, I think we we checked out before recording that. Island in that group aren't in the greatest spot, you

League Challenges and Comparisons

00:08:05
Sam Brady
could say. that It's looking unlikely we'll see them over in America, Mexico and Canada in the summer.
00:08:12
Sam Brady
But yeah, I saw a bit of that game as well. And yeah, they they held they held held their own for a bit there. And they've got a few decent players here and there, I think. look When they face a real top team, i mean obviously Portugal probably weren't weren't at the races that day either, but you you do look man for man at Ireland and you do what you do start to realise why they're why what they are where they are in in in their group.
00:08:44
Sam Brady
But yeah, as you said, they held their own there for a bit and yeah Portugal, I mean, you just run through their team in comparison to Ireland's and it's a joke to be honest. though
00:08:53
Global Sports Podcast Network
It is. it is.
00:08:54
Sam Brady
yeah
00:08:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
Especially when they have Dallow on their side. There's no beating them with Dallow in their team.
00:08:58
Sam Brady
and And one thing obviously you mentioned Denmark as well. ah the The thing is with Hoyland, obviously, I don't think I've been on since since maybe Hoyland left to Napoli, actually, officially.
00:09:12
Sam Brady
Or definitely since he started scoring goals for Napoli, that's for sure. And this is the thing with Hoyland. like and And recently, a lot of things have been thrown at United where, oh, look at your ex-players go to other teams and play really well.
00:09:29
Sam Brady
And like, yeah, that's all well and good saying that. But some players just aren't good enough to play in the Premier League. And we've seen that with Jadon Sancho. We've seen that with Anthony.
00:09:41
Sam Brady
And people go, oh, look at Anthony doing so well for Betis. Yeah, because he no no disrespect to La Liga or Serie A in Italy or or wherever, but you're playing in a worse league against worse, or not even necessarily a worse league, but you're up against, on a weekly basis, worse defenders.
00:10:02
Sam Brady
You just are. If you're a striker... I would much rather be a striker in Serie A than the Premier League because you're going to score more goals. You just will. And not only are you coming up against worse defenders, but you've you've also got Kevin De Bruyne behind you supplying the balls.
00:10:18
Sam Brady
So of course you're going to score. You go from United, where you're playing world-class centre-backs week in, week out, with Ugarte behind you supplying you, to a Napoli side with De Bruyne playing against some centre-backs,
00:10:33
Sam Brady
that on an average are probably bottom half of of the Prem level, really. So, yeah, it's all well and good saying, oh, look at Hoyland doing so well. Oh, he's such an amazing player.
00:10:47
Sam Brady
But... he do He can't cut it in the Premier League. that's That's just that. and some players so And I'm not saying all of our x play with all of our sort of players we've sold on,
00:10:59
Sam Brady
like of we shouldn't maybe wish them to come back. like Mate, I'd love McTominay back within a heartbeat. like Bring him back now.
00:11:09
Sam Brady
Get Agate out of it. Get Casemiro out of it. whack McTominay in there. But if you're telling me, would i wouldn would I still want Hoyland in there over Sesco, for example? No, I don't actually. So look, I want him to do want him to do really well. I want Hoyland to do really well.
00:11:29
Sam Brady
Anthony, yeah, you can do well. I don't really care about Garnacho. Nah, that's another conversation. um But yeah, look, I just don't like the whole, oh yeah, all United X players are doing so well, you should have kept them. Because people leave a lot of context out of that.
00:11:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's mad as well that you said, like, yeah, Serie A is nowhere near where it used to be, especially 20 years ago. You look at the quality of players that there were in Serie A two decades ago.
00:12:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
It was a fierce league to to be a part of. it was It was monstrous. And as you say now, it feels a bit slower watching Serie A. They're still putting out some good teams out there, don't get me wrong. But...
00:12:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah it kind of feels like it's a it's a far cry from what it was 20 years ago
00:12:18
Sam Brady
Yeah, like, like no like don no disrespect, like I'm not saying they're bad leagues at all, like, at all, but, for instance, can you tell me the centre-back of Como?
00:12:30
Sam Brady
Can you tell me the centre-back of Calagari? Can you tell me...
00:12:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
they did have they did have varan i know that como did ever run yeah about that lot
00:12:36
Sam Brady
Well, for like one week, yeah. like Can you tell me the centre-back of like you, Danese? You can't. And they're the centre-backs that Hoyland are obviously competing against week in, week out. And I know like Italian fans might say, oh, who's the centre-back for Brantford or whatever?
00:12:54
Sam Brady
But the actual quality of these players are, in my opinion anyway, the quality of the players in the Premier League technically are way superior, especially in the defenders.
00:13:08
Sam Brady
I think the defenders now in the Premier League technically on the ball, on the half turn, like can can play inverted. Technically the defenders, I think in the Premier League now, are levels above the defenders in in any of the league. and I watch a lot of Liga. I've got a lot of my my friends are from Madrid and and support Madrid. So i watch a lot of La Liga. And that's why I'm saying, I'm not saying they're bad leagues.
00:13:32
Sam Brady
I'm just saying some players are way more suited to playing in those types of leagues. Like Anthony, for example, he's killing it at Betis. you know why? Because in the he's a one-trick pony.
00:13:46
Sam Brady
He cuts on his left, curls it with the left. Like we've been there, done that. He's a B-Tech iron robin, really. But in La Liga, he's coming up against fullbacks who aren't the brightest fullbacks in the world. So they're going to let you, every time they're going to let Anthony put in the left, put in the left, put in the left. So obviously he's going to score goals.
00:14:05
Sam Brady
Whereas in the Premier League, Premier League fullbacks aren't going to let you do that. So, yeah, it's just, and look at Sancho.

Manchester United's Transfer History

00:14:12
Sam Brady
Killed it for Dortmund. Came to United, was terrible. Went to Chelsea, was terrible.
00:14:17
Sam Brady
Like, clearly, again, ah player who's not who isn't good enough for the Premier League. And that's fine. that's That's fine to be a player who you're not good enough. But you're not good enough. Like, take it. You know what I mean? like
00:14:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
So since Sam's return, it seems like we're no longer going to be welcoming Italy, Spain, or Germany.
00:14:35
Sam Brady
They're all welcome. They're all welcome.
00:14:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, no, they they're not welcoming you anymore.
00:14:38
Sam Brady
they're not enough.
00:14:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
They're leads.
00:14:40
Sam Brady
No, no. of All the players are welcome. firm But then when you don't make it, don't always blame it on the club. That's what I'm saying. but that's what Because every time players come from Serie A, La Liga or the French League, wherever, and they come to unit United, oh, all of a sudden itite it's United's fault.
00:14:59
Sam Brady
Like, don't get me wrong. A lot of world-class players have come to unit United and failed. And we have an issue with that. We have an issue with world-class players coming and then be, I'm not saying we don't, but also there's a lot of dross that comes and it's dross when it's leaves. You know i mean? So just because we spend 70 million on a dross player doesn't make him not dross.
00:15:21
Sam Brady
You know i mean? You know what mean? Like, come on.
00:15:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's added France that list as well. Before he adds any more onto this list, we're going to go for a short break. When we come back, you'll love this. Sam's going to give his view on the United team so far this season. Trust me, sounds like you're not going to want to miss this. Back after this.

Current Form and Tactical Issues

00:16:42
Sam Brady
Thank you.
00:16:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
So about midway through this international break, maybe just over the halfway point, we're now on match week, match match week day, match day week, match day week. That's the one I got there in the end.
00:16:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Currently, United are slap bang in the middle of the table. Seven games played with 10 points, a minus two goal difference and six points off of the current leaders in Arsenal.
00:17:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
In what seems like a case at the top where... Points have been dropped and points have been lost in critical moments, especially with Liverpool in this season. You know, they've they've had critical points won, but at the same time, their greatest strength of being resilient to the 90th minute has also been their undoing at certain points in this season as well. And we're only seven points and seven games in and only six points off the top. Now, it does seem like a far cry.
00:17:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
But I think that's a lot better than maybe we'd expected, especially we've had the the game against Arsenal, the opening game there. We had City where we got absolutely embarrassed, especially in the second half.
00:17:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
We had the win against Chelsea, which was a bit of a welcome surprise. There's been tough games in there. From my point of view, in the in the big games, just like last season, we seem to put in a decent showing.
00:17:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's those games against the teams we should be picking up good amounts of points with that we seem to be struggling with. Is that a fair assessment, Sam? And and how has your view been so far after seven games?
00:17:59
Sam Brady
well ah it's it's It's one take on it, definitely.
00:18:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay. so That's Sam's way of saying I'm wrong. Yeah.
00:18:10
Sam Brady
no No, technically you're not wrong. like In the the big games, Chelsea, ah Arsenal, Man i mean well i don't know i don't know though because that is two losses and a win, so we are still negative.
00:18:29
Sam Brady
um And yeah, we're terrible again. um And there's just no really ways the way to put it, to be honest. and Yeah, we're we're just terrible again. And and we're 10th in the league, which is quite unbelievable, considering how bad we've been.
00:18:47
Sam Brady
You didn't mention the obviously the cup game to Grimsby as well thrown in there.
00:18:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, that didn't happen to me.
00:18:52
Sam Brady
now So, yeah, from what I've seen, it's just a continuation of of last year. We're terrible. There's pretty much no improvement.
00:19:05
Sam Brady
There were signs against Sunderland that maybe that the does there's a bit of hope there. But again, it's Sunderland. um Our wins this season have come against ah Burnley, Sunderland and a 10-man Chelsea.
00:19:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Thank you.
00:19:23
Sam Brady
um So, yeah, when when you're looking at that, it's it's not great. And then you've got Anfield on Sunday. um yeah, Liverpool have been a bit all over the place this year.
00:19:35
Sam Brady
um But they're going to absolutely batter us, in my opinion. um I think if we play the way I know we can play and how bad it can be, and I know how good Liverpool can play, I think, to be honest, <unk> it's going to be an absolute battering.
00:19:52
Sam Brady
um And I know, like, yeah, maybe we turn up in these big games and blah, blah, blah. But there's been no sign, literally zero sign of me go get taking any hope into this Liverpool game. And people might say, oh, that's so negative. Look at what happened against Sunderland, blah, blah, blah.
00:20:12
Sam Brady
I take nothing from that Sunderland game because it's Sunderland. No offence to Sunderland, but if we don't beat...
00:20:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh.
00:20:19
Sam Brady
And I know Sunderland have been going well and they've been playing well and all of this, but if we don't beat Sunderland at Old Trafford, we've got serious issues, bigger issues than I think we all thought.
00:20:31
Sam Brady
So...
00:20:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah As well as that, Sam, Sunderland, as as far as I remember in recent sort of time with Amarim, was pretty much one of the first sides to realise that their system wasn't working against Amarim.
00:20:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
I haven't seen that before. I haven't seen ah ah you know a side that is just like, actually, what United are doing and how they're set up. We can't play this. you know We can't play our own system. We've got to change things. And things were changed 30 minutes into a game. and richard Regis Labrie said,
00:21:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
deciding you know to pull the plug on on a certain tactic i hadn't seen that before and i sort of thought well you know there's one team in what a year that's really had to change mid-game because it's not working i got ah
00:21:12
Sam Brady
Do you know, Kieran, do you know why you haven't seen that before? Because you're watching United, you're watching Almorin. Almorin don't do that.
00:21:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
and know yeah he's
00:21:20
Sam Brady
He will never change, ever, ever, ever. We could be 7-0 down, which might be a case and might be the reality on Sunday, and he still wouldn't change. And...
00:21:30
Sam Brady
Look, my opinion on Ruben Almorin can be saved for another episode, I guess. And obviously, my views and thoughts ah of of where I'm at will come out to the viewers, I guess.
00:21:43
Sam Brady
But if you haven't guessed, I am now, unfortunately, Ruben Almorin out um to to the viewers and and the listeners for many different reasons. But for the one reason, in my opinion anyway, and why...
00:21:58
Sam Brady
I don't see there's any hope against Liverpool and and against any top team, really, is because we can't play this system with the players we have and win against big teams.
00:22:12
Sam Brady
It's just not going to happen. We can beat the the Sunderlands and we can beat the Burnleys. like And, well, we can't even beat the Grimsby's. But, well, you know...
00:22:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
Mm-hmm.
00:22:24
Sam Brady
But we can beat those types of teams because just player for player, individual brilliance will win those games. But when we play big teams and we play this system with the players we have, we've lost.
00:22:38
Sam Brady
We've lost. Because Almorin refuses to play another system until he can get the players he wants into play system. We've got serious problems in the midfield.
00:22:50
Sam Brady
We haven't got... One, potentially even two midfielders who can play that Almoran system. In my opinion, we still need another centre-back, really, because all our centre-backs, to me anyway, seem a bit timid and ah and a bit inconsistent.
00:23:06
Sam Brady
yeah Lenny Yorra is the only one that I actually think is very good, but obviously it injures them both.
00:23:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
hi I'd add De Lick to that as well. I think De Lick's been solid. He's had a couple of games where it's been a bit...
00:23:15
Sam Brady
and like but This is the thing. De Ligt's solid, but I don't know how consistent he is. like He's a solid player, and yet he can't do anything about the 3-1, was it, against Brentford?
00:23:28
Sam Brady
like Okay, he's a solid player, but he ain't going to do anything about that. yeah Same with Jorreau. I love Jorreau, but on his own, he's not going to do anything to prevent that...
00:23:40
Sam Brady
that loss you know i mean we need one more centre back a real leader a real a real technically good centre back and then the euros and the delix i think will improve when we have a real sort of force starter there i just don't think all of our centre back all of our centre backs i know i'm going on a bit of a tangent about centre backs but all of our centre backs are all around the same level. I think they're all here.
00:24:08
Sam Brady
We need a centre-back who's that, who's going to take these players to the next level. Whereas like we've got De Ligt, who's decent. Jorreau, who's decent. Martinez, who's decent. like They're all decent centre-backs, but we have no... So I think we need a world-class centre-back to come in.
00:24:26
Sam Brady
I think we need two midfielders what Two midfielders, ideally one world-class DM to come in. And then full-backs as well. Obviously, full-backs is a big um big asset to to this formation.
00:24:42
Sam Brady
And I just think right now, they're all a bit flip-floppy. We have Dorgue on the left. But then if he's not playing, it's like we we we play someone else over there. And then we have, like, right wing back. We're either playing Dalot or then Ahmad sometimes plays there. Or, like, I've even seen him bring on, like, don't know, Mount's been

Team Potential and Improvements

00:25:04
Sam Brady
playing over there. like And it's just, it doesn't seem like there's, like, a solid, okay, he's there. He's there. He's there. I mean, we bloody hell, we swap ah swap two of our centre-backs every game.
00:25:15
Sam Brady
Like... How we ever going to win matches when three two out of our three centre-backs are changing at the 60th minute? You know, it's just, it's it's madness.
00:25:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Ah.
00:25:25
Sam Brady
So that's why ah people might say, oh, negative, blah, blah, blah. But what what evidence is that? Like, what evidence is there to suggest it's going to get better? And if there's no evidence after a year that things are getting better, sorry, mate, I'm wearing, I love you. Mate, you're an honest guy. You're a nice guy.
00:25:47
Sam Brady
ah wish you nothing but the best. I'd invite you around for dinner at my house. But to manage my football club, mate, I'm sorry, you're not good enough. I like Dolly. I like Tenog.
00:25:58
Sam Brady
You know, I like these guys. They seem like decent guys. I'd invite around for a few beers and have a pint with them. To manage my football club, Amron, get out of
00:26:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
strong Strong words there from our Sam Bradley. He's back. He's so back. Well, I'll tell you now, um that there's a there is a reason why I think there is potential.
00:26:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
And it's this. Squawker.com have a 2526 XG adjusted table. Now, as we know, know i know that look, Sam. I'm agnostic, right?
00:26:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
But it does it does paint a story.
00:26:30
Sam Brady
here. Woke glances. That's what I say.
00:26:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah What was that?
00:26:35
Sam Brady
woke nonsense
00:26:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Nah, nah, you don't know. The game's so gone that it's back. But it puts us on XG second, right? Now, again, take of that what you will and make of that what you will because it also puts City top.
00:26:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
However, this is creating chances. At one point, I think it was before... um game against I think it was the game against Brentford just before it. Again, United were at the top of ah XG, which meant they were creating good chances. They just weren't finishing them.
00:27:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
And what that tells you is, is a team that if you adjust it so that the goals that should be scored are scored, we're right up there. It's the fact that we're not clinical.
00:27:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
and And maybe we're conceding too many goals that aren't good XG. So not good chances against us are going in. And that would make sense because, it you know, with Inanna and Altai, shots against them just seem to fly in, ah even if they got a hand to them, which now makes sense.
00:27:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
But I don't think it's time to throw in the towel because we've we've done this before. We've done this time and time again, know.
00:27:41
Sam Brady
The thing is, though, like, okay, that start, wherever, where did you say it was from again?
00:27:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Squawker.com.
00:27:48
Sam Brady
Yeah. So, Squawker, they may, you and and and it might be true, we might be second in the league for XG. But when I'm actually watching the games, I'm like, where is this XG coming from? We've barely had a shot.
00:28:02
Sam Brady
So, but like The only clear cut chance... No, the only shots I ever see us take and like make the make the opposition keeper make a save is outside-the-box shots and things like that.
00:28:16
Sam Brady
like I never watch a game... like I haven't watched a game this season that we've lost. maybe Maybe the first one against Arsenal. But then even then, ah wouldn't say...
00:28:28
Sam Brady
We created that many clear-cut chances. But apart from that game, I haven't watched a game this season that we've lost and gone, oh, we definitely should have won that game.
00:28:38
Sam Brady
Like, that's just not happened. So, like, I i mean, as I said, woke nonsense, mate.
00:28:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah The game's been gone so many times that it's so back now.
00:28:48
Sam Brady
One question I did want to ask you, Kieran, obviously I've not been on for a

New Goalkeeper's Impact

00:28:53
Sam Brady
while. What did you make of the keeper? Lament or...
00:28:56
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, um mean I mean, think we we discussed it on previous episodes that he did the basics. I don't think it was an outstanding game. He didn't have a lot to do. But the fact of the matter was defence had confidence in him.
00:29:04
Sam Brady
Yeah. Yeah.
00:29:08
Sam Brady
yeah
00:29:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
And that's something I felt like they haven't had in a long time. The fact that the Stretford end were cheering a claimed cross sums it up.
00:29:11
Sam Brady
yeah
00:29:15
Sam Brady
yeah yeah um mean Yeah, that that's what that's one thing that going into the Liverpool game, i i am i am slightly positive on. we' We've found one.
00:29:27
Sam Brady
where um least like I want to see now our defenders relax a bit more. and like ah us actually have like start to, or our defenders start to sort of get in the groove of things and start to familiarise themselves with everyone and the and and maybe the system because now they don't have to worry about the keeper because bloody hell, every shot from any angle, any yardage was causing our goalkeeper trouble.
00:29:55
Sam Brady
And as you said, you know, it's bad when the keeper claims a corner and the crowd cheer you.
00:30:01
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:30:01
Sam Brady
Like... I mean, buying Deer and Ananda must be, like, dumber and dumber, honestly. Like, Christ knows, like, honestly. Like, the fact that we put over those two, oh, God. so But least, at least we fixed, hopefully, one problem.
00:30:17
Sam Brady
But i don't want I don't want to speak too soon because, yeah, you know.
