Speaker: Hello and welcome everybody to another episode of the Uncommon Wealth Podcast. I'm your host Philip Ramsey. Today i want to talk about something that we try to do religiously here at Uncommon Wealth Partners when we are creating a plan. And the reason why we started doing this is because I had a pretty bad experience with the industry. And so anytime somebody comes to us, what we try to do is always continue the cash flow that they were doing before.
Speaker: What does that mean? So when i first met an and i was trained in this industry, I was always told to ask them what they were saving each month.
Speaker: So if you budgeted, let's say it's $500 month we were saving. I was taught that that is the the dollar amount that we were going to play with to get everyone's goals. So you have to buy life insurance for them, you had to invest in maybe ah an account, this, that, or the other. But those that was the money at $500 was what we were playing with.
Speaker: So when I jumped into Uncommon Will or in financial advising, I should say, my number one thing that I really wanted to do is not go after that $500. So if you're budgeting all this stuff, how can we reorganize what you're currently doing and Then continue that plan moving forward, but you're not we're not going after that $500 now what happens usually which is kind of a pleasant surprise is people then add to whatever they're trying to save and their goals and their Things because it's their goals not ours But then they use that $500 that maybe they were saving before maybe they use $200 for it to expedite the plan and so they're Way
Speaker: under schedule so they're they're they're reaching their goals faster. But that's something that we've carried on throughout the time. And so if we meet a family that's, let's say, saving $500, we'll try to take their current cash flow and we'll reorganize it in such a way that they get to achieve all their goals without going after that money that they've saved every month.
Speaker: To me, that's what what I would want an advisor to do. Not to try to take away that money from me and put it into accounts, but let's reorganize the cash flow that we currently have in order to achieve the goals we want to do. Now that to me is an uncommon person that I would love to go out and talk to.
Speaker: Not a lot of people do that. In fact, the industry, like I said, i was trained very differently. But when I sit on the other side of me and try to put myself in other people's shoes, what I try to do is like, okay, how can we use the cash flow and the budget that you're used to But then let's reorganize some of that stuff. Now this doesn't mean that we go after like, okay, you have a Netflix account or whatever, we don't really do that.
Speaker: But in general, what's your usual budget? This is what it is. Okay, what if we paid off this or did that and did this? We can keep the same cash flow as it was, what you were comfortable with, but we're now using maybe that money that was going to debt. Maybe we do it something over here that it allows you to achieve your goals faster.
Speaker: The other thing that's super powerful about this is because these are your goals. This is your plan. This is what you get excited for. This isn't something that maybe is is my cup of tea. It's yours. So when I can step into somebody's shoes and start achieving things that they really care about, that's when the synergistic partnership happens.
Speaker: We're on your team. We're helping you achieve your goals. We're trying to do it without taking more money out of your wallet. We're trying to reorganize what's in your cash flow to do this. And then you start seeing traction, which gets exciting. And like I said before, sometimes it's like, hey, we all we kind of want to add a little bit of our savings because our savings...
Speaker: emergency fund is high enough, we wanna use some of that money in order to expedite this whole plan, which is exciting, right? But it wasn't because i told them to do it, it's because they wanted to do that.
Speaker: The other thing that I really like about this when you sit down and you start thinking about and trying to understand people, how they're uniquely gifted and how they're they're kind of wired and what they get excited for is you can be debt agnostic. Like people want debt, people wanna eliminate debt, hey, these are your goals, they're not mine.
Speaker: But there are times where I will say like, hey, this is a risky thing because we're maybe taking out debt. Here's here's the downside. what are your thoughts What are your thoughts on that? And if this husband and wife are on the same page, i then let's do it.
Speaker: So there's times where I'll have to maybe say, hey, here's the risks of that or whatever. But for the most part, the reason why want do this podcast is because we do a great job of taking people's normal cash flow, reorganizing it to achieve the goals that they never thought they could do. And maybe in an uncommon fashion, which gives them traction, both husband and wife, and get excited about their future.
Speaker: So I've never really talked about that before, but I do think it's kind of like underlying, at least that's when I sit down with people. I don't think like, well, how much are you saving? I'm gonna take that money, which sucks.
Speaker: What I ended up saying is like, hmm, or thinking, how can we or reorganize your cash flow currently? So nothing really changes from your cash flow perspective next month, but we're achieving the things you want to achieve. So that's a little g glimpse inside of my brain and Cody's brain as we start doing these financial plans for people.
Speaker: I love doing it because the end of the day you're in control of it. Not us. These are your goals and we just could help you achieve them. And we also get to encourage you on along the way and celebrate with you when you do achieve them. So thank you for listening.
Speaker: We've a lot more content coming to you. We've got more interviews coming that are uncommon people and we're excited to get those and share those with you. So until next time, go be uncommon.
Speaker: Thanks for listening.
