DailySaintsPod: Good morning, good afternoon, good evening and welcome back to the Daily Saints pod with Zach and Greg. I am your host today, Zach. as always joined by my wonderful illustrious co -host Greg, how are you doing, bud?
Greg: yeah i'm doing all man I'm just, I'm looking forward to the weekend. You know, we, we. I know we skipped a day in an episode yesterday, so last time we we spoke was... Santa was hoping that... that football would be tomorrow and and now it is so it's just
DailySaintsPod: that's always That's always nice, isn't it, when you, you know... the The event that you're looking forward to rolls around. And luckily with football, it's just all the time. at the moment.
Greg: Yeah, especially in the championship, mate. You don't get time to breathe. It's just game, game, game. All of that said, because of the weird way that... the games have worked out and the like extended international break in the away games This is the last time I'll be at St Mary's until like the middle of October when we play Pompey.
DailySaintsPod: that's mad yeah no you're right there's a they have Tell a lie. It's great. There's football all the time, apart from when there's international football and we all don't care again until it's a...
Greg: Yeah, that doesn't count
DailySaintsPod: it's it's Look, it does count.
Greg: Yeah.
DailySaintsPod: We've discussed this before. It counts when it's the Euros and it counts when it's the World Cup.
Greg: Definitely doesn't count when it's an international break.
DailySaintsPod: Not when it's... Not when it's like a international manager randomly calling up a player just to see if they're like... Good. or can play football, and then proceeding to...
DailySaintsPod: forget about said player forever. Anyway, that's not what we're here to talk about. We're here to talk about our upcoming fixture against Bristol City. at home. Uh... As you've alluded to, Greg, in the last episode, which, of course, we managed we took a day off. Apologies, but we just we just could not make a recording time work.
DailySaintsPod: But you said they were kind of a bogey team for us, and I said that I don't think a draw is necessarily...
Greg: Yeah.
DailySaintsPod: The worst ever, but our our record isn't fantastic. against them you know they they broke a streak
Greg: it's it's not necessarily Just the results though, right? It's the the meaning behind the results because they, like you say, they they broke the undefeated streak of Russell Martin.
Greg: and basically put the nail in the coffin of our automatic. promotion chances with that draw. So... It's... It's... you know not so much the actual results against them as as the meaning behind it every time It just seems to be a cloud whenever Bristol comes down.
DailySaintsPod: Well, i I don't really know if it's necessarily that the first game, I think the first game we were just bad. with Like, you you look at it and and we took we took the lead with a goal from Adam Armstrong in the 30th minute.
DailySaintsPod: and then proceeded to just... You know. get completely turned over by a side we weren't expecting to. Mameti scored an equalised...
Greg: Hmm.
DailySaintsPod: Three minutes later. And then Scott Twine, who we seem to struggle against. to Thank goodness they still have him. I thought he'd gone. It turns out I was wrong. It was Mometi that went across to to Ipswich.
DailySaintsPod: But yeah, he scored twice and then, yeah, but it was a... pretty pretty dismal night in Bristol for us. And obviously a completely different team, to be perfectly honest.
DailySaintsPod: it was
Greg: Yeah this time we only have to worry about the curse of an ex -player coming back to haunt us.
DailySaintsPod: Wow, that never happens. Football doesn't like poetry, Greg. I don't think that, you know, you can't really name any any times that's the case. But like, we don't have Howard Bellis anymore. We don't have Edwards. We don't have McCarthy.
DailySaintsPod: uh we don't have charles we don't have fraser is in ryan fraser we don't have uh armor and we don't have archer currently We also we do have Tom Fellows. We do have Ryan Manning.
DailySaintsPod: Jay Robinson is out on loan. And we don't have Damien Downs.
Greg: Yeah, so I mean, but times have changed. Uh... You know? I'm sure that it's it's more of a bogey game in the minds of the fans than it is in the players because the players are going to be looking at...
Greg: Uh, turning over two teams that looked really scary coming into the fixtures. in the last two home games and seeing Buckle up, Fortress St Mary's, here we come. Right?
DailySaintsPod: Yeah, i think I think that's the thing. And like and also, our last game against us, we did do something a little bit different. We had Archer and Laren play off against each other. The illustrious... tall guy and guy that runs in on the inside, your favorite you know your favorite combination that yet is yet to ever properly work for us.
Greg: Yeah.
DailySaintsPod: And that was just unfortunate. It didn't pay off for us in in the end. so
Greg: I think. I think deep down I just yearn for the days of 442, mate. That's all it is.
DailySaintsPod: oh mate yeah
Greg: Simple times.
DailySaintsPod: No, I completely completely understand you know that we all yearn for simpler days. I remember when FIFA used to do transfers via via like FIFA points rather than actual real -world money, and assigning David Beckham and Sean Wright Phillips to a Doritos Wolves. right like There are have been many many different you know different iterations of football.
DailySaintsPod: that have been enjoyed by all. But a 4 -4 -2 mate isn't one that a lot of people want to see nowadays.
Greg: Hmm.
DailySaintsPod: So you might be on your own there. I'll let you look at...
Greg: now it It all comes in circles.
DailySaintsPod: any like lower leagues
Greg: It'll be really popular again soon. Don't worry about it.
DailySaintsPod: Well, you mean like set pieces?
Greg: It it all comes back around.
DailySaintsPod: you're not You think it's going to eventually do in Arsenal?
Greg: Ignore me. Yeah. 100%.
DailySaintsPod: Okay. Interesting. But like obviously my point is is that you know we had one of the games was under a completely different manager. Another game, we tried to change things up a little bit because of well see how important the result was and to deal with the threat that Bristol... Shout out. It didn't really work. We, you know, equalized with them. uh got a draw out of it but you're right it's just come at some really sort of uh large big moments that we probably would have hoped to have.
DailySaintsPod: taken more from and the russell martin streak meant that going into the first game against them last season we were worried about that and they're a good side like that's that's the ultimate you know they've been pushing for promotion the last two years right so
Greg: Yeah.
DailySaintsPod: I'm not really, you know, I'm not really downhearted by that.
Greg: And even on in more recent form, they've won their last three. See?
DailySaintsPod: Uh, yeah.
Greg: Yeah.
DailySaintsPod: You made the point before. the before we actually started recording as well. that They have had a lot. longer to prepare for this one as well.
DailySaintsPod: They didn't have a midweek game, but well.
Greg: Mm hmm.
DailySaintsPod: Yep, so because of that. You know? We... we're going to have less recovery time. And it does feel like whenever we have a really solid performance, like after Millwall, it just drops a little bit because the energy is just expended, right?
DailySaintsPod: This is the problem with...
Greg: Yeah.
DailySaintsPod: this is the problem with going for the goals and making sure we keep up with that win is that the they really tank out. from the 90 minutes so
Greg: Yeah, I think that a lot of the hope is pinned this game. in particular on the fact that the energy should be easier to get up because of that home advantage
DailySaintsPod: That's true.
Greg: Honda really like deeply believes in it.
DailySaintsPod: I agree.
Greg: and And I mean, you see it on the pitch how how different it is. So I guess that's the the aim, but... yeah you're right i would this is certainly a game where i'd expect to see those substitutions probably earlier in the game rather than later.
Greg: although i was expecting that a bit midweek and and larry held on until like the 85th minute so Who really knows? Maybe he's just up for it. Maybe he'll just be... scoring for fun and laughing i mean it's it's another one of those i mean The, the...
Greg: to without trying to formulate too many reasons why it's a concern. Obviously, they've won their last three. but They have... like the lowest Percentage of possession.
Greg: to win rate. in the championship which doesn't necessarily bode well for us because we prefer it when teams come to... Try and play football. And...
Greg: They... beat Burnley in their last game with like a 92nd minute stoppage time winner. Which is something that... In the past we've also been. Like...
Greg: week two. So... I don't know, it's...
DailySaintsPod: No, that doesn't happen.
Greg: it's There's plenty to be scared of.
DailySaintsPod: We haven't we haven't discussed that. en masse over the last couple of times we've had, you know. Yeah, it's... yeah We're just going to have to hope that it pans out in our favour.
DailySaintsPod: And I think you're right. The crowd do make a big difference. And I think that St Mary's does make a big difference. And and you can visit you can see that.
Greg: Hmm.
DailySaintsPod: genuinely on on the pitch. You can feel it in the stadium. so
Greg: well i mean the the results speak for themselves right three
DailySaintsPod: Moving on.
Greg: league games at home in the league. 11 goals scored.
DailySaintsPod: Yeah. There you go.
Greg: it take
DailySaintsPod: Apart from the league. We don't talk about the league cut to West Ham, although west arm West Ham seem to.
Greg: I don't worry about that. Don't.
DailySaintsPod: Anywho. How do you think, Greg, that in this game we're going to line up? Because you you were talking about Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday.
Greg: Hmm.
DailySaintsPod: Is that actually a thing? Because with Laren, it's not a thing anymore.
Greg: No, I don't think so We out. I don't think it is a thing this season really. I think... I think at most we see...
Greg: Two changes.
DailySaintsPod: Okay. that's That's interesting.
Greg: but Yeah, so I think...
DailySaintsPod: Now make sure you pad out this explanation or otherwise this is going to be a short episode.
Greg: Yeah. no i mean look Obviously, we've talked about the goalkeeper situation link and it's going to be correct until it's not. Right. We're not going to see Ramsdale on the bench or involved until Peretz cannot play. And then maybe, who knows?
Greg: yeah two maybe three changes i can see Bree starting. I could... potentially see wellington Swapping in for Manning.
Greg: And I could potentially see... but... coming in. Four. one of the centre backs. I don't really know which one yet because I've not seen enough of him.
Greg: to to gauge what kind of profile of defender I'd expect him to to line up with. as he's got history as fullback as well, I would... Be inclined to think maybe Schlotterbeck, who was on Tuesday happy to push further up the field to...
Greg: to make the defensive stuff, but I mean, also... Schlorbeck's been excellent and I don't... see him dropping him unless it's fully fitness related so Probably would.
DailySaintsPod: Yeah, i kind of I kind of agree. And also just for for positioning on the field, right, is that occasionally... But it's been... on that right hand side so i'd be surprised to be played on the sort of the right of center
Greg: And Schlotterbeck is a... is the elusive left footed centre back that we've been hearing so much about being necessary since as far back as Ivan Juric. Yeah. if if he's going to rotate in i suspect it would be for wood but also i wouldn't be surprised if we just don't see a change because If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
DailySaintsPod: Aye.
Greg: In the middle of the pocket Don't see any way you come. Pick. Prowse and Flynn.
DailySaintsPod: I agree.
Greg: They've been excellent they They really seem to have. settled into a groove. as a partnership. And actually I saw Alfie on TSP talking about how...
Greg: there are potentially dangerous combination in... a couple of different ways and the we saw... The version of it where Flynn Downs was happy to sweep up and receive the ball.
Greg: And that. ward krauts move further forward and be the playmaker and create the passes but actually there's... A slightly different element of playmaker that Flynn Downs is able to bring when he's freed up to do the same thing and they're both perfectly capable of switching either into those roles, so...
Greg: be an interesting one to think about but yeah realistically unless unless because of the lack of football over the last couple of years where Prowse isn't up to another. Start which I just don't see that It's just...
Greg: They're the two I would pick to be on the pitch every time. Which is not a knock on Cam Bragg at all, because I think that he's a perfectly competent replacement at... that 60 minute mark for either of them.
Greg: So...
DailySaintsPod: But yeah, I think you've got a level of... seniority, maturity.
Greg: Hmm.
DailySaintsPod: at that level when you know he's been lucky to get quite a bit of minutes.
Greg: Hmm. And particularly Flynn on Tuesday, right, stepped up and probably had his best game in a Saints shirt.
DailySaintsPod: But.
Greg: so i don't see why you'd change too much around that
DailySaintsPod: No. I agree. i you to Do you just want to go back to the defence a little bit? Because I was reading that, obviously... Schlotterbeck coming in. is not used to this amount of intensity of games right so i wouldn't be surprised if potentially that you see a change just because of fitness relations because you know the championship is a bit of a different league in the fact that all of a sudden game game game game game game game
Greg: Okay.
Greg: Hmm.
DailySaintsPod: you know It's the but most consecutive games he's played in a...
Greg: Yeah. is physically intense.
DailySaintsPod: in a small period of time.
Greg: And also... it's It's very easy to hear the opinion a lot. The... Oh yeah, but they get paid... stupid money a week they should just be fit and ready to play football every four days but also that That just doesn't really take into account. how physically challenging playing at the...
Greg: top level of this league is like how physically demanding it is like the human a body
DailySaintsPod: Yeah, they did. this is look at This is like a leap.
Greg: needs time to recover. Yeah. and And we've talked before about how... the smallest changes and whether you if you can't quite get up to that like physical intensity that actually that but small percentage of change is enough to make a bigger difference because of the the quality of the league.
Greg: so yeah if If he needs the rest because he's struggling with it, then... then then we need to rest him, right? We don't want to be risking an injury.
DailySaintsPod: Also, why did you think we should replace Manning with Bellington? Because I didn't realise Manning hasn't really had any fitness issues. So I was a bit of a surprise when he was swapped out in the first place. So how come you just feel like that?
Greg: You have to know... Purely because we saw it last week. And so I suspect that it's part of the plan. I don't know if it's just to...
Greg: bring wellington up to fitness so that we've got that cover
DailySaintsPod: That would make sense.
Greg: Or if it's to give Manning a rest because he played... I mean frankly an unreasonable amount of minutes last season as well. So... you know that's something to think about but mostly because
Greg: If you're going to rotate. someone in that back line really it's the most obvious one that we have cover for because we don't have another right back really to cover for James Brie.
DailySaintsPod: Yeah, no, that makes sense. I don't know when, if we're ever going to hear about Rorislav again. We're once again recording before.
Greg: e
DailySaintsPod: a pretty much press it because...
Greg: Because Tonda loves doing it at 3 o 'clock on a Friday.
DailySaintsPod: you You just wouldn't get an episode on a Friday if if if we had to wait.
Greg: is the last
DailySaintsPod: You'd get it Saturday morning where, let's face it, a vast majority of people are already too busy to preparing for the match.
Greg: Okay.
DailySaintsPod: so
Greg: Yeah, absolutely.
Greg: It's just like a textbook tonder, like this is literally the last thing this week that I care about doing, so I'm going to leave it as late as possible. and And look, I respect it.
DailySaintsPod: Yeah.
Greg: it's It's fair enough. I think that if I was doing that job, it'd be the least favourite part of that. my favorite part of the job too.
DailySaintsPod: But if we took a... if we took a leaf out of Lincoln's book, Greg, and we ever managed a football team, we would be dual head coaches and I could just do all of that stuff because you didn't want to.
Greg: Yeah.
Greg: Wow.
DailySaintsPod: Anyway, point baby, pop loss, baby.
Greg: We'd have like three hour long press conferences.
DailySaintsPod: Wow, I mean
Greg: it
DailySaintsPod: You're not wrong. you're You're right. Doing a podcast is a good way of me getting all of the the energy of just needing to say words out.
Greg: Blood.
Greg: Alfie would be like, can I have an update on Team Fitness, please, Zach? And he'd be like, yeah, do you remember in 2008 when Victor Wanyama did this thing? and
DailySaintsPod: It's a bit like that.
Greg: okay
Greg: But anyway. Anyway, sorry, bringing us back on course.
DailySaintsPod: So, that's it's it's fine. Honestly, if this show could do anything more, it's you mugging me off the gear. It keeps me humble, mate. Right, so that's the back line.
Greg: Moving up the pitch.
DailySaintsPod: Do you think that's going to change other than maybe Matt skiing for fellows?
Greg: I mean...
Greg: That is the only change I can see happening at all is Matsuki for fellows. and And even that's not glued on. I genuinely think. It's 50 -50 for me as to who is better in that position. I don't think that one is a better choice than the other obviously they both have different profiles that they bring to that position and you know, Tonda will have done.
Greg: hopefully better research into it than me to know which one of them suits this particular game more. But also both of them have shown that they are able you know they're in that level that they're able to make an impact when they come on off the bench as well so Yeah. uh either of them will start and i will be happy with with either of those choices and the other three you just you can't No.
Greg: After... The quality of performance on Tuesday night, you can't not start Finn, Leo and Clarence.
DailySaintsPod: Well, you mean all three of the goal scorers, you're right, and you probably should keep them. What does this mean for, like, Dobbin, right?
Greg: Yeah.
DailySaintsPod: do you feel about... Dobbin because you know I've already started to see articles pop up that he's been like the nine million pound flop and I don't really think that's fair And, you know, that these aren't what I would consider to be reputable sources.
Greg: Bye.
DailySaintsPod: But also, you know, flying its fleets.
Greg: I definitely don't think it's that, mate. We're five games into a season. How can you... place that judgment on a player of whether he's a flop or not.
DailySaintsPod: how i feel and that's that's why i'm so surprised to see I guess I'm not hugely surprised because let's just say that the places I've seen this aren't exactly the most reputable. But it is one of those things that I'm sure that he probably thought.
Greg: Mm.
DailySaintsPod: Okay, he is going to be playing second and fiddle to Finnazaz, but do you reckon he would have expected more minutes by now, especially after a really good pre -season?
Greg: Possibly. But... I mean... It just kind of is what it is. as well I mean, as long as the team Keep winning. It's... it's That has to take second fiddle, and I'm sure that he will have his time this season, and I'm sure that he will bed himself in, and I'm sure that he will...
Greg: become good and and do good things but there's no There's no rush on it. Again... You know if it's not broke don't fix it and you can't try and The worst thing you can do...
Greg: In that situation, if if any sort of criticism is coming, and and like you say, it's not from our fans, at least, right? it's a an unknown quantity that we've got much more patience for than that.
Greg: the worst thing you can do is throw him into a situation where it's sink or swim. Because... people don't especially yeah younger people than us don't generally deal with that pressure very well.
Greg: that's not not very modern mentality or the approach they'll take so i'm sure that he'll Keep getting minutes off the bench. in games. And I'm...
Greg: Confident. The. in one of those games he'll make a huge impact and and do some good stuff and He looks like a decent player. He's not... Dumb bad things when he comes on the pitch.
Greg: Right? like
Greg: It's not.
DailySaintsPod: I do feel that... like Obama's getting quite a bit of slack for... not being able to make huge impacts in the short periods of time that he's come on. And again, it's because we're like lining him up against Laren, who...
DailySaintsPod: Lightning is almost scored in every single game.
Greg: Is it in the form of his life?
DailySaintsPod: so yeah it's
Greg: again if he carries on scoring in the way he's been going he's on track for i think i worked out was 37 goals this season so which would being sane.
Greg: right like
DailySaintsPod: Yeah. So...
Greg: So... yeah Yeah. It's just it's early days, isn't it? and And also, I mean... One of my sister -in -law's favourite points to make is...
Greg: It's really not fair and impossible to judge a player. when the only chance they've been given is 10 minutes here and 15 minutes there because how can they settle into the groove and on top of that at the point in the game they're coming on you know the game is different for for a number of reasons, right? Because you're further into the game and know what the task at hand is, whether that's hold the lead or or go and chase a lead.
Greg: but also potentially the quality the of ball that you're receiving around you might have dropped due to tired legs. so there's There's so many factors that play into it. and it's just far too early to tell either way but like i said neither of them have been Like, actively bad. when they've come on.
Greg: And I don't think that you can... even really see it as a negative that Neither of them have scored every time they stepped on the pitch for a 10 -minute cameo.
DailySaintsPod: you're You're right, that is almost the expectation because of... you know essentially the players around them and what you know we've got with both
Greg: Yeah.
DailySaintsPod: Feinersaz and Larin and also Cienza, right, is that...
Greg: also the unfortunate comparison yeah special players but also the unfortunate comparison is
DailySaintsPod: Special, special players.
Greg: you know the direct comparison to last season but you'll remember that... whilst both Kyle Lahren and Ross Stewart came on and made impacts and scored. They also were. Right. one and two in the league.
Greg: for goals per minute. So... that is not a reasonable expectation to set that said Mubama? scored a hat -trick against Bristol City for Stoke last season.
Greg: So...
Greg: Right. Not so much playing your team for him.
DailySaintsPod: Whoa, you're right! There you go. I guess... let's Let's hope that that curse can potentially be broken.
Greg: So look, so even if If Larry needs... you know larry played too many minutes on tuesday so can't start this game and we see mubama on the team sheet That still could be a good thing. All right.
Greg: team that he's got form scoring against
DailySaintsPod: Yeah. As I said, I think it's just that... because of just like the levels that the team are currently at it just means that a lot of people feel like outside our top 11 so it's a downgrade because the vast majority of the time it kind of feels like that but also We have very, very high levels currently. And I think that sometimes it's just a reminder of that and to not maybe jump you know jump jump on any of these bandwagons that they're sort of bad.
DailySaintsPod: you know As I said, I don't think it's many of our supporters, but I just found it very sort of baffling.
Greg: All right.
DailySaintsPod: i was
Greg: kind of crazy right because there's a lot of recency bias to it as well because Whilst it's very easy to... remember last season as the tea the season where we went on this massive unbeaten run and were unstoppable.
Greg: You've got to remember that by this point last year we were wondering if we were going to end up being relegated again. So...
DailySaintsPod: Yeah, that was it was really it was really fun, right? It was talking about whether or not Will still can actually beat Pompey. having a
Greg: Yeah.
DailySaintsPod: game that, no you know, it's like, well, okay, we didn't lose the game. That's not the end of the world. And then obviously proceeded to just carry on.
Greg: Yeah.
DailySaintsPod: Just a whole lot of nothing, right?
Greg: My only wish this year was that is that the Pompey game would be before the international break because that's the only part of uncertainty for me. If they were coming to St Mary's tomorrow, I would be confidently predicting...
Greg: seven or eight. Honestly.
DailySaintsPod: Look, we just... We'll see. look We've got to get through this game first. And as we as they always point out, it's the next game first.
Greg: That's it. Yeah, we can't look ahead too much And this is going to be, look, this isn't a foregone conclusion.
DailySaintsPod: And.
Greg: This is difficult. Right?
DailySaintsPod: Hey, like we again, former player, striker. very good form, scored an absolute screamer the other time.
Greg: Mm.
DailySaintsPod: Of course, he would come back and score at St. Mary's and then everyone goes, oh, it was really nice of him that he didn't celebrate. Oh, you know, you were so important to him. Oh, he had a nice catch up with Prowse later on. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
Greg: I really respect that mentality, but like it's really important that I make it clear that if I was a professional footballer and transferred away from a team and scored against them, that I would be the type of player running up and laughing in the manager's face.
DailySaintsPod: We can see that script.
DailySaintsPod: Oh, what? You mean not all like those? oh Well, for starters, recently, the obviously best goal at St Mary's is the Bouffal one. And it's him running up to the manager, basically screaming, pick me.
Greg: Hmm.
DailySaintsPod: But I can't remember who it was quite recently.
Greg: Yeah.
DailySaintsPod: I think it might have been in a lower league, but there was a guy that scored against his former team. after I think they just but i let him go or something. And he ran the entirety of the pitch to then basically celebrate in front of the...
Greg: Yeah.
DailySaintsPod: opposing fans which you know is a level of petty that quite frankly I can get behind and
Greg: Yeah.
Greg: I respect it. yeah I would respect that as much as the choir not celebrating him respectfully. i'm fully behind it there's a level to to the game that i really like about that but then to be fair i have also said for the longest time that one of the best things in a way defender could do when they're warming up at halftime as a sub would be to tackle one of the kids doing the halftime relay so maybe i just don't have good opinions
DailySaintsPod: Yeah! Maybe that says more about you as a person than anyone else. And me too. I don't know. Look, we try to be good people. It's hard. yeah Sometimes things are funny. Anywho. Uh... Getting to the most important part, mate. How do you think this is going to play out? Come on, what's your score prediction?
Greg: Well, look, here's the thing. oh i've been looking at the the ai spiel as i as i do youre in tday and and uh
DailySaintsPod: Ugh. 2 -1.
Greg: No, that's the thing, mate, because it it's throwing me for a loop here because it's it's obviously says that. Southampton are in excellent home form. Uh, but also Bristol City are in excellent away form. And it describes it as a high -variance, high -activity game where second -half pressure could tilt the result, but actually predicts a 3 -1 win for the Saints.
DailySaintsPod: Really?
Greg: which is... Yeah. So...
DailySaintsPod: Okay.
Greg: I can't be beaten by that. Let's go 4 -2.
DailySaintsPod: Fine. Don't know how why you think we're going to do that much better, but that's okay. I'll take it.
Greg: I'll just...
DailySaintsPod: Eddie, Eddie.
Greg: England.
DailySaintsPod: Any specific goal scorers or is it just... It's 40 The Vibe.
Greg: Yeah, Laren is going to score because when Laren plays, Laren scores. I think Mbama will get a goal as well, whether that's as a starter or off the bench, I guess we'll see, but I'm going to presume off the bench, but I think he'll come on and get a goal.
Greg: Let's have a prowsy goal. As well. really raising the roof of St Mary's, maybe even...
DailySaintsPod: Alright, alright. Okay.
Greg: A cheeky free kick.
DailySaintsPod: a
Greg: That would be something, wouldn't it?
DailySaintsPod: is Is Manning just given up all responsibility then? Or is this...
Greg: well no that's the thing because actually they both stand over the ball one with a deadly left and one with a deadly right and that makes the keeper panic even more
DailySaintsPod: in this
Greg: of
DailySaintsPod: Okay, okay.
Greg: See?
DailySaintsPod: Look, I'm not i'm unhappy about it.
Greg: Thanks. Pure fear factor. And then... I don't know, let's have James brief I haven't had any score for a while.
DailySaintsPod: but what watching you just cycle through all of our players in your head who would definitely be in this game. Yeah, thought that was great. I enjoyed that. I might genuinely go with 3 -1 again because 3 -1 was what I did last time and it was fine and it was the first score prediction I got right this season.
Greg: Yeah.
DailySaintsPod: And, you know, that was before the AI.
Greg: Fair.
DailySaintsPod: I just think, you know, continue this level of high scoring completely squashed the idea that we have a bogey team. We have one rivalry and one rivalry only, let's face it. Middlesbrough. laughter
Greg: yeah
DailySaintsPod: That is so disrespectful to the South Coast Army! I just thought it would be funny for dramatic effects.
Greg: a Ugh. Yeah, it was good luck.
Greg: I enjoyed it, mate. I enjoyed it.
DailySaintsPod: No, we we obviously have one rivalry and it is Portsmouth, so I don't want to start. buying into superstitions and yeah, okay, as I pointed out, those last two games and those last two seasons were...
DailySaintsPod: Not ideal, but I think there were different circumstances around them. The Russell Martin season, let's face it, any team... could probably beat us 4 -5 -0 if they wanted to if we were having an off day and that was the weird thing about that football is that you know one day we did beat Huddersfield like 5 -2 or 5 -3 or whatever it was but then another day we could get beat we got beaten by Leicester 5 -0 so I don't want to read too much into it 3 -1
Greg: Hmm.
DailySaintsPod: Let's go for Larin. Let's go for James Will Prowse and let's go for Matsky because, you know.
Greg: Nice. well I respect it.
DailySaintsPod: I'm a sucker.
Greg: I like that. That's good. Uh... oh it's good mate just just good vibes coming in You know?
DailySaintsPod: Yeah. Yeah. big Exciting.
Greg: It's going to be...
DailySaintsPod: Another home game is always nice.
Greg: A day out with the Marys.
DailySaintsPod: Good stuff.
Greg: Yeah. Keep scoring goals.
DailySaintsPod: so
Greg: Keep getting the wins.
DailySaintsPod: Yeah, that's what we need to do.
Greg: picking up the poultry
DailySaintsPod: We just need to...
Greg: Get the northern wall being nice and loud Perfect Saturday afternoon.
DailySaintsPod: Which is like... A good thing because at some point we should probably have a discussion about that because I remember early on when we first had the Northern Wall. We discussed whether it was making a slight bit of difference at all.
DailySaintsPod: But nowadays, you know i think it's I think it's become a more of integral part. of the game and we we give it credit to you but that that's the story for another day
Greg: Right, that is an episode for another day. I like it. I'll write it down
DailySaintsPod: Good. Perfect. Obviously. We'll hope to see you there. uh if you're watching From... Your secret bunker in France. Enjoy.
DailySaintsPod: or abroad because you're allowed to do that. We are on all the social medias. We are on Facebook. We are on Twitter. slash x the everything app we are on youtube we are on instagram we are on tiktok We post all of them, all of that, all the time. As you can tell, I'm tapping out of energy.
DailySaintsPod: But this will not be the energy that I go into Saturday with, I promise. So have a... Wonderful game. whatever you're up to and have a wonderful morning afternoon or evening and we will see you to talk about the result come rain or shine
Greg: And come on, you saints.
