DailySaintsPod: This is indeed the Daily Saints pod with Zak and Greg. Good morning, good evening, good afternoon, whatever time you're listening to us. This is the Daily Saints pod. I am Zak. As always, joined by the splendiferous Gregory.
DailySaintsPod: How you doing, mate? Have you had a good weekend?
Greg: This is... I mean, it's been alright. just done a lot of dad things to be honest and then you know, watch Saints lose, but... Just...
DailySaintsPod: Yeah.
Greg: Let's feel a little bit like back to some level of normality, to be fair, after the highs of the end of last season and the... the Crazy start this year. Just...
DailySaintsPod: We say, well, we say back to normality, a normality where it's like, in fact, it's a normality that reminds me of the days gone and past, right, where...
Greg: Hmm.
DailySaintsPod: you dominate the game. fur. the entirety of it and somehow lose 2 -1.
Greg: Yeah.
DailySaintsPod: thus the you know The subs make little to no impact and we we bought it in the last minute.
Greg: Well, look.
DailySaintsPod: It's like proper... Proper Saints losing and being annoyed game, right? And...
Greg: Yeah, but I mean, worse than that.
Greg: Sienza, who knows? I mean, thankfully, now we've got... I don't know, what, 56 weeks without football until after the international break. So hopefully it's long enough for him to recover.
DailySaintsPod: Yeah, something like that.
Greg: but it's not It's not really what you want to hear, is it? I mean...
DailySaintsPod: Well, Eckert did say that it's nothing he he doesn't think it's anything major. But also, we've heard things like that about Yanda, and we still have yet to see Yanda this year, right?
Greg: Hmm.
DailySaintsPod: Right?
Greg: Yeah.
DailySaintsPod: is it yessh Yeah? Has he played at all? I can't even remember at this point.
Greg: This season, yeah.
DailySaintsPod: Yeah, so then there you go. but Yeah, no, it wasn't.
Greg: He was in the pre -season.
DailySaintsPod: it wasn't
Greg: Easily he went off, right? And we're we're yet to see him since then.
DailySaintsPod: Yeah.
Greg: say
DailySaintsPod: No. you're right and obviously what it resulted in was 45 minutes of a Edozie and you know i don't want to criticize one of our own players too much but I think that the the problem is is he's not Leo it's less of a he's a bad player or anything like that and more of he isn't Leo Scienza.
DailySaintsPod: However, he did have 45 minutes to really put his mark down as to why he should be in the starting 11. They didn't. which is probably actually why he was asking for a transfer away, because maybe he knows he needs to drop to a different...
DailySaintsPod: level. i i don't know it's a weird one but obviously we should probably start at the start so unchanged which you know means that we can't really complain about the lineup. Any thoughts on the unchanged lineup? Would you have changed anything for this game?
Greg: No. I mean, even with the benefit of hindsight, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. You stick with the winning team and hopefully they can kick on. Uh...
Greg: Yeah, I wouldn't wouldn't have changed it. it's It's almost baffling really, the difference between home and away, isn't it?
DailySaintsPod: but Yeah, that's now becoming that's now becoming the problem, right? And I've seen some people blame the kit, which is ludicrous, quite frankly.
Greg: Well... I mean... We'll... Part of me agrees with you, mate. Do you remember the last... time that we had like a controversial quite blew away kit
DailySaintsPod: yeah it was the season we went down from the premier league i do remember that i I am, however...
Greg: Did we... Do you remember what our record was in that particular way kit?
DailySaintsPod: No, probably pretty bad though.
Greg: it was It was real bad. In fact, I don't think we registered a win. in that kit
DailySaintsPod: yeah We also...
Greg: So...
DailySaintsPod: We didn't do very well that season. Where I'm at is that that is a load of superstitious nonsense. And, you know, if I can cut suddenly can, if it's as simple as I need to pay some Etsy witches to get us to win the league, mate, I would have done that at the beginning of the season.
DailySaintsPod: like just Sorry.
Greg: I'm just saying that... I'm just saying that maybe it is just a curse of a blue kit. like
DailySaintsPod: I thought.
Greg: if If it's...
DailySaintsPod: No, what it? What it is, is you go to Wrexham and you have a striker who... I... I am happy and i i love Kyle Aaron, don't get me wrong. like We know this. This isn't a surprise. I think the amount of media he has done this week has been insane.
DailySaintsPod: And I think that that has distracted him from the actual point of the media, which is because he's the top goal scorer of the championship, right?
Greg: Hmm.
DailySaintsPod: There seems to have been interviews just across the board, like not only with Saints, but like Sky have given an interview. I think BBC have given him an interview. There were lots and lots of interviews across the board with him.
DailySaintsPod: and talking about like how he's managed to find this form and And whilst that's wonderful, it's like. you know He's... he's that they I feel like it's always like whenever you raise someone up like that, there's a real easy chance to slip up. now I don't think that's the reason why. I think the guy just looks tired.
Greg: Hmm.
DailySaintsPod: but it raises all of the questions that we've had. for a long time now. and questions I've specifically had, which is death. And, you know, that was a thing that no one was surprised by.
DailySaintsPod: you know we kind of It's the biggest reason that we didn't give our transfer window an A, to be perfectly honest. And I think that that was a perfect example. of you know,
DailySaintsPod: us not. quite having the depth available. or at least I can't see any other reasons why some of the changes... came so late. Yeah.
Greg: So here's... here's the i guess the big debate and the big talking point. Obviously, Leo Sienza goes off injured at halftime, and you've you've already talked a bit about Edozie.
Greg: What, uh... What do you think Dobbin's up to these days?
DailySaintsPod: i I don't know.
Greg: why is Why has he not been given the the opportunity to shine?
DailySaintsPod: Because I don't think that that's ever what he was signed to be. I think he was signed to be in a Azaz backup if a Azaz isn't fit. and Azaz's fit. So it's a big. it's a big outlay on a player that, you know, is to replace somebody that isn't fit.
DailySaintsPod: You've got to remember, at the end of last season, when this became a priority, is when Azaz had been playing through a lot of the end of the campaign with quite quite a severe injury. We then... it's almost like people forgot, didn't see him for nearly the entirety of preseason.
DailySaintsPod: So if there was a chance that he came back into the squad and picked up an injury very quickly, we would need to replace that number 10 position very quickly as well. So we signed you know Dobbin.
Greg: Hmm.
DailySaintsPod: And we paid. probably this you know similar amount of money to have a player kind of of that caliber And then since then, we've deployed him with Sienza, and then they've kind of switched roles in a weird little bit of a way, and it didn't really work out.
DailySaintsPod: and then we've kind of brought him on to replace sienza sometimes and then we've kind of brought him on to replace us as sometimes but he he's not really ever been given enough time, but also it's because we can't waste that, right?
DailySaintsPod: like If Azaz is playing well and we need to win a game, you're not going to start others over it.
Greg: Hmm.
DailySaintsPod: And I think some people were talking about how. a dozy getting the minutes he got yesterday was over sentimentality and I'm like well it's not really sentimentality it's for example if we did bring on fellows in you know that left left position and then matski picked up an injury who's going to go there i'm probably sure they'd switch fellows across and maybe bring a dozy on but like it it seems like that's the backup right the backup to sienza currently is a dozy. The backup to Azaz is Dobbin.
DailySaintsPod: Azaz is not injured and Azaz is playing well, so Dobbin isn't playing. It just kind of, you know, the biggest worry is Striker where Larin struggled was tired, had to be a bit more careful because he was yellow carded as well.
DailySaintsPod: I think a lot of people have just kind of forgotten that as well.
Greg: Hmm.
DailySaintsPod: But, you know, giving Mubama like five, ten minutes to try and make a huge amount of difference isn't... isn't really the best. And I think bringing Dobbin on after they'd... managed to get a winner essentially was just a bit.
DailySaintsPod: Like if anything, you've wasted the minutes, precious minutes of extra time you have left. to try and get an equalizer, but ultimately it should have never come down to that. We should have started off and tonked them. But...
DailySaintsPod: As me and you discussed and as one of my fears before before going into this game, it was laid bare, which is whenever we seem to have like an extended break or like a week off or whatever, like first game of the season every year, right?
DailySaintsPod: they come back and it's sort of like, it's hard to get going. It's harder to get going when we're away as well, for whatever reason at the moment. So then it just kind of confounded into it took us absolutely ages to get going.
DailySaintsPod: they They score a goal. you know, Kiefer Moore again, who has now, I think, play scored in the last two, like, is that's all three games that we played against Wrexham.
Greg: Hmm.
DailySaintsPod: And then obviously we go into halftime and we're all kind of a bit disappointed, but we know we can. we can get back and then. It starts off quite... could Quite good. And then, you know, Ward -Prowse gets a goal and then...
DailySaintsPod: we continue to kind of just pepper them.
Greg: that's fantastic though isn't it right like if we're looking for positives to take Prowsey getting his name back on the score sheet. His first goal back.
DailySaintsPod: Yeah.
Greg: at at the club. His 50th league goal. of all time with Southampton. These are good things. These are things to celebrate in the midst of a disappointing result.
DailySaintsPod: Yeah, and and and I And I pointed that out, like I said before the game, he would be one of the people I wanted to score a goal. You said, I think it should happen at the South south Coast Derby.
Greg: You did call it out.
DailySaintsPod: And I was like, yeah, they can I don't understand why you can't have both. And I think it will probably be, it'll be a fantastic atmosphere anyway. Him scoring will will take off what's left of the roof. and Obviously, you know, Edozie got assist, although it seemed to kind of just be a bit of a frantic battle in the box to get that ball in the back of the net anyway.
Greg: Hmm.
DailySaintsPod: And then, yeah, and then it was just kind of, it was the rest of the game was just so passive. Like I kind of found myself just completely zoning out at some points because just nothing really, you know, we're trying our best to kind of move it up and not really.
DailySaintsPod: We've had some individual errors, again, some sloppy mistakes that realistically are the only, the you know, the two biggest mistakes we made are two mistakes that resulted in goals. And it can just... football isn't it punishing
Greg: Well I think...
DailySaintsPod: You're sat there sat instead awake it.
Greg: but Yeah, look, I've also got the the aforementioned blue kit here somewhere too. but And it's probably not. just because we're away although there is you know something to be said for struggling with the travel like we presumably that's just something we need to sort out and maybe whatever we're doing at home too.
Greg: as our routine to get us fired up for the games is clearly something we need to focus on away because we're struggling as well.
DailySaintsPod: think I think part of the problem is the crowd. That's the problem, is that they've managed to turn around St Mary's into a place where there's a lot more positivity than there ever was in the last you know few seasons beforehand.
Greg: But... Yeah. Hmm.
Greg: Mm.
DailySaintsPod: And obviously everybody knows that there's going to be... you know the whole we forget that you know we've had a lot of it and i'm sure we'll get into a little bit in this episode as well but We are going to be the target of every you know every buck of every joke for the entirety of this year.
DailySaintsPod: When you're at home, you know people are going to receive a hostile a atmosphere and we will laugh down.
Greg: Absolutely.
DailySaintsPod: It's the thing with Bristol. And like, you know, we came into this game off the back of being heated, but we went to their ground. And, you know. Ultimately, we're the ones now left a little bit of egg in our face, especially considering some of the reactions to that advert were, we're going to talk here.
Greg: Yeah. But...
DailySaintsPod: I'm pretty sure we even said that.
Greg: Yeah. But actually, I think the the real problem and the real cause of it is actually... Another team that got beat with a low block. beat us with a low block. We haven't...
Greg: quite figured out how to always unlock that and in fact when when we struggle to break that down that's what makes us look slow and passive we just don't necessarily have the answers and there were times yesterday even before They went 1 -0 up.
Greg: where Wrexham were playing with basically a back seven. Right? It was... It was... Very deep. Very organized, tough to break through those lines because...
Greg: They only really came forward effectively or or in any kind of... numbers with the two main big chances they had that they scored.
Greg: it's very hard to catch them where we like to catch. the teams which is in transition and a bit off the pace and slightly out of position We just don't quite seem to have the answer to make that.
Greg: decisive pass when playing against a team that are as determined to defend as that.
DailySaintsPod: But we obviously...
Greg: And that's been a problem since last year too.
DailySaintsPod: we did eventually because we equalized so it was the case but obviously it just seemed like that was where they put all of the effort into and realistically it feels like
Greg: Yeah.
DailySaintsPod: You know, we should have at least came away with a draw at the very least. because we should be able to defend better than this and this is where some of it comes down to is that somehow this like set piece issue from
Greg: Well, yeah Yeah.
DailySaintsPod: The season's gone past, the beginning of last season, the season before, the season before. It just seems to consistently haunt us. It doesn't matter if we have new centre -backs. You used to talk about the fact it was hype, so then we brought in hype.
DailySaintsPod: It just seems to be. Whenever. the ball comes in our box is a frantic sort of getting away by any means necessary and sometimes we end up either just passing it directly back into them for a second ball or you know the other other times we miss it completely And it goes in the back of our net.
DailySaintsPod: and you know sometimes you know there can be criticism of the goalkeepers but also This seems to be a consistent problem with our defence. We've talked about this. You know, you joke about a clean sheet. I haven't predicted a clean sheet so far this season. because we seem to be literally unable to keep one.
Greg: Yeah. Yeah, no, you're right. it's It is a concern. and I mean, it's the... one of the biggest problems we've had for a long time like you say right like we ship goals for fun Yeah, we shipped goals for fun in the Russell Martin season, and that was why we drew so many games, right?
DailySaintsPod: It's not a problem when we outscore the opponent. But if you can't outscore the opponent...
Greg: because we just couldn't. stop people scoring so Yeah. I don't know. today So we need to be so better at the back and better going forward. It's... I don't know.
DailySaintsPod: It's not even necessarily so so necessarily better than going forward. What I think you need is you need another option. And the issue that you've got is that, you know, we kept Laren on until like the 86th minute.
Greg: Hmm.
DailySaintsPod: He clearly wasn't, you know, clearly probably wanted to go off earlier. He's knackered. it looks like it's it's taken out of him. and i think hopefully the rest will do him good but also he's had a full week to recover as you said it could be a combination of things it could be the race course stuff it could be It could be anything.
DailySaintsPod: it could just It could just be, as you said, maybe they're tired from all the travel.
Greg: One eye on the international tribute. Yeah, one eye on international duty, right? And just not... you know, we've talked before about the different, the. the difference so that that 0 .5 % is in a game.
Greg: where it's as physically intense as this. If you're... you know, 0 .5 % less likely to stick a foot in and put that risk in. Because you're thinking, oh, I've got internationals next week.
Greg: Maybe that's enough.
DailySaintsPod: Yeah, and as I said, also you've had you've had a week of so many of our players being sort of... You know, really, you've you've got all a lot of them are now looking at international duty. You've got Peretz, Manning, Azaz.
DailySaintsPod: Matsuki's been called up for the first time because of how well he's done. But that's going to be like a massive deal, maybe even in a bigger deal, right?
Greg: Hmm.
DailySaintsPod: like the way It's like when you look at some of the the Japan national team players, like Yoshida, it's almost like you split their careers in half, where you look at what they've done internationally and how important that is.
Greg: Yeah.
Greg: Hmm.
DailySaintsPod: And then also, obviously, club football. And then, yeah, obviously Leo picks up an injury. That's less than ideal. All of our plans for kind of the second half has scuppered. We managed to sort of get one back and then we kind of throw everything at it.
DailySaintsPod: Bop. clearly we don't you know, make the changes very very late. and I don't know if some of the players that came off needed to come off. And then obviously you've got a little bit of mistakes. and It kind of feels to me like if we've brought in a spare centre -back.
DailySaintsPod: in Abbot. it kind of makes me wonder if we're never going to play him and he's never going to really get minutes. why did we not just maybe get another forward player on loan instead of Abbott?
DailySaintsPod: And it's it's questions like this that again, when everything's going well, we don't really need to ask because it's going well.
Greg: Hmm.
DailySaintsPod: But these this was always the concern I had. because you need something different you know if we don't have an archer to bring on or something you know there's not really much we can do with the shape to change things up or or maybe it was maybe we could have put you know Just.
Greg: Hmm.
DailySaintsPod: shoved Dobbin up front and see what happened. but obviously then it look makes you look like you're insane. But yeah, I just think it was quite frankly.
Greg: Cameron Archer, by the way, who has now scored in all three of his matches since joining All -Star.
DailySaintsPod: Yeah, well... Again, like we've we've been through this before. It's also, look they' not being funny, a different slightly slightly different quality of league.
Greg: levels.
DailySaintsPod: and And on top of that, it could be that...
Greg: Definitely.
DailySaintsPod: He's got tactics that actually suit him better than the tactics that we currently play. There's there's a massive amount of factors, right?
Greg: Yeah.
DailySaintsPod: Damien Downs had a goal.
Greg: 100%.
DailySaintsPod: in the back of the net that was ruled offside. It was rot offside in the build -up. So, you know, even he's managed to score, but that's MLS. so There's a lot of, you can have all the sort of question marks around that, but the point is, is having, having multiple options. and You know, Mubama
DailySaintsPod: came to quite a lot of fanfare. You were there when he was announced as a player. You know, you've had all the interviews. You've had all the, yeah, I'm here to score goals. I'm here to win games. Yes, you scored a goal. You scored a winner at one point. Fantastic. Good stuff.
DailySaintsPod: But. you know you require players to take their chances but I feel like he didn't really have enough of a time to take a chance So I don't really know if you can properly criticize him over that time.
Greg: Yeah. Yeah, I mean...
DailySaintsPod: It's the same with Dobbin.
Greg: Yeah, absolutely.
DailySaintsPod: Like you can't.
Greg: We talked.
DailySaintsPod: I'm quite sorry for the guy.
Greg: No, we've we've talked before, right, about how can you possibly... I mean, it's a first of all, it's a completely different thing. to be able to come into a game late on and make an impact.
Greg: it's It's his own entirely different skill set. in the first place. And then to to only get that short amount of time.
DailySaintsPod: You don't know what added time it's going to be either.
Greg: it's it's not it's not a reasonable expectation for a young player.
DailySaintsPod: but if if If you think about it... he doesn't know how long he's going to have added time, right? So if you get four minutes, that's what, 280 seconds?
Greg: Yeah.
DailySaintsPod: That's nothing.
Greg: Yeah.
DailySaintsPod: When you think about like the movement and how quick everything is, and you know you know how when playing sport, time just flies by. So like the idea that... you you have to sort of take You have to be perfect in those moments. And I think that that's that's going to be a problem because you're not going to get that.
DailySaintsPod: And, you know, there might now be opportunities for others. us And hopefully Leo's back in time for the the the international break being over. Obviously, we've got I think ass we've got a behind closed doors friendly. I think it's Villa of all teams. I don't know if that was arranged with the with the the transfer. for us the You know, transfer for Taylor Hardwood -Bellis or what, but...
DailySaintsPod: Yeah, I just think it's, I think that personally, the the depth problem was a little bit exposed, but also it's that we got. We've finally been punished for this season so far. not being able to kind of get ourselves out of our own rut that we create by allowing sloppy, you know, sloppy goes in.
Greg: m
DailySaintsPod: and the set piece issues.
Greg: That's exactly it. Because... Because actually... we We did create. Right, we had chances that game. and There were a couple in the first half from Laren that...
Greg: spring out, one where there was a lovely through ball to Azaz. that Larin was like just half a yard behind. There's another one where he, like... runs through and tries to chip the keeper and there was one where he tried to chip the keeper from like 30 -yard.
Greg: Like it was...
DailySaintsPod: so did they at some point
Greg: We had... We had opportunities, right? Like, it's not... these If anything it's... It's more that it was closer to last season's Swansea where...
Greg: it's It's punished for not putting away... Like, we had 20 shots. like Seven of which are on target.
DailySaintsPod: Yeah, we had... Yeah, it's not like it's not like we didn't do anything, right?
Greg: i
DailySaintsPod: But the problem is is that you have to take those chances.
Greg: Hmm.
DailySaintsPod: And again, it's the it's the lack of clinical... Like. clinicality right like you you were talking about it's the 0 .5 now we don't know where that's come from has it come from all the media this week has it come from everything else has it come from one eye on the international break doesn't really matter like
Greg: Yeah.
Greg: Yeah. is it just one of those days where that happens right because that is a thing sometimes it's just not your day
DailySaintsPod: That was the other thing that I i said to you. it was it was a It was a strange day in football in general, right?
Greg: Mm. eve
DailySaintsPod: For starters, Spurs scored a goal. right right so that
Greg: Yeah. There was that, yeah.
DailySaintsPod: that in itself that in itself was one big thing Brighton beat Arsenal 3 -0.
Greg: Hmm.
DailySaintsPod: So the Arsenal's winning streak came to an end. Hull, undefeated streak, came to an end. 2 -1 against Newcastle. Coventry beat Forest 1 -0, so Big Frank got his first win.
DailySaintsPod: And then obviously you had the Millwall West Ham derby that just ended, you know. Millwood 2 -0 up and then it ended 2 -2. Middlesbrough, Birmingham 2 -2. There were just draws across the board. it It just feels like it was one of those kind of footballing days where where everything was against the odds of...
Greg: Peace.
DailySaintsPod: What? was expected right Cardiff beat Charlton. There's lots of, sometimes just weeks like that happen. And I think the problem is, is that... There was an extra... level of energy and fire.
DailySaintsPod: because of the whole, what is essentially an advert for Firefox. Let's just say what it is, right?
Greg: Mmm.
DailySaintsPod: It's an advert for Firefox that... achieved its objective massively. And then, so, you know. add insult to injury. They then did a Matt Letiz meme. which also objectively funny.
DailySaintsPod: I know it's wound a lot of people up.
Greg: Yeah.
DailySaintsPod: A lot of people are really, really angry about it. But again, we're going to have to have thick skins to get through this season.
Greg: Yeah.
DailySaintsPod: Because that that...
Greg: I saw it and I thought it.
DailySaintsPod: I'm surprised.
Greg: I thought it was funny. But again...
DailySaintsPod: Again. thick skin to get through this season, mate, because we're going to get this no matter where we go, no matter what we do, no matter who we speak to, no matter what team we play.
Greg: the Yeah. Yeah.
DailySaintsPod: This is going to be part of it. And again, I do think that probably contributes to the away. You've also got the overhanging issue that, you know, the the players are probably fundamentally aware that the whole whatever's happening with Tonda.
DailySaintsPod: is going to potentially be wrapped up this week. coming.
Greg: Hmm.
DailySaintsPod: which means that you know potentially i think it's like by thursday the decision's going to be made and then Friday we'll know. And then that might...
Greg: That's what I've heard, yeah.
DailySaintsPod: Yeah, that's and so that might mean that, you know... we We end up losing him for five games or 10 games or half a year or or no nothing at all. or We don't really know. It's kind of hard to gauge it because it could be it could be anything. It's realistically up whatever they decide. I'm... the players could be thinking about that. And if you're... thinking too much about that in the game that you're supposed to be winning you know It could be anything. I'm not...
DailySaintsPod: I'm not as upset or worried about. it is everybody else's. But what I will say is that it does.
Greg: Hmm.
DailySaintsPod: expose the depth issue. because you know I feel like we're going to do more business in January than we expect to. And I'm not saying that my conspiracy theory of... the whole we never sold Ramsdale and that's why we never got a forward player. It's that.
DailySaintsPod: But... We've still got Rams there and we don't have an extra forward player. I don't think we need four goalkeepers. But we do probably need an extra striker.
Greg: Yeah.
DailySaintsPod: So we'll just have to see how it plays out.
Greg: I think it's valid I think it Yeah, I think that you're right, and it is definitely a point of concern, but yeah, you're right, it's not the end of the world. We were never going to cruise through the league and not lose.
Greg: And...
DailySaintsPod: Sometimes you just have days like this. that's that's kind of where i That's kind of my opinion of it, is that sometimes you'll lose to a team, you know as you pointed out, that has looked at what we did last time.
Greg: Yeah.
DailySaintsPod: We haven't really changed things up massively. The team is relatively quite the same. We didn't absolutely batter them. They managed to keep us out this time. they They scored first, so there wasn't a lot of pressure on them to you know have to change the way they were playing.
DailySaintsPod: It's not like we went two or three goals up really quickly and then you know made it five, because again, that's that's just the problem.
Greg: Hmm.
DailySaintsPod: Is that like with with these low block teams, we either need to change the tactics later on if we haven't broken through. or shell shock them so quick that... by the time they've managed to like recover.
DailySaintsPod: the game significantly more open. And whenever we don't do that, we end up in this situation where we either get a last minute winner or another team gets a last minute winner or the reality is that we pick up a draw.
Greg: Yeah.
DailySaintsPod: And it just kind of seems that today you know was one of those days. And I'm not going to be devastated by it. Again, it seems more that the the heated argument around... Wow. I don't know if you saw Phil Parkinson's like post -match comments, Greg, about apparently Wrexham... carried themselves with great dignity after feeling abridged that like they they They were offended they didn't get.
DailySaintsPod: given the playoff spot after we'd been thrown out.
Greg: Yeah.
DailySaintsPod: And like i can I can get that. Like, I can understand it.
Greg: I mean... I mean look. I read enough news and try and interpret. BS as much as I possibly can and what I read that is well we weren't Middlesbrough
Greg: You know? like we could have We could have felt hard done by and didn't kick off because we got missed out on that other playoff spot, but hey, we weren't Middlesbrough.
DailySaintsPod: so So, yeah, maybe...
Greg: We just made a funny video, guys. like Chill.
DailySaintsPod: Yeah, that's that's that's kind of also where I'm at. This is what we're just going to have to deal with for for the foreseeable.
Greg: Yeah.
DailySaintsPod: And you know and of course, London's going to say it's not funny because he's caught in the middle of it. It's his job. He doesn't know what's going to go on.
Greg: Yeah.
DailySaintsPod: It's his livelihood.
Greg: It's perfect
DailySaintsPod: it's Of course it would. so
Greg: perfectly reasonable for him to not find it funny again. has received death threats over the situation. pretty hard to remove yourself from it and see the funny side at that point to be honest
DailySaintsPod: Yeah, I...
Greg: And I might get that.
DailySaintsPod: get i I understand that too, but... We've just got to move on.
Greg: Yeah.
DailySaintsPod: We've now got an international break coming up. It's a good chance for everyone so you're going to kind of chill a little bit. It's a good chance for us to chill a little bit. We might take some time off. We don't usually do that. but just Just seems like, you know.
DailySaintsPod: It's going to be a long season. And i could I can see us doing some late nights when we've got back -to -back -to -back -to -back games and a transfer window in January, Greg. So, you know. I just want us to rest up a little bit, but that's not going to be forever.
Greg: Yeah. Amen.
DailySaintsPod: And obviously the next game is going to be one of the most important games because, you know.
Greg: Yeah. who it's It's the exciting one, right? Hopefully.
DailySaintsPod: it's the best one
Greg: I mean... I mean, we've just lost after an almighty winning streak. Might be without Leo Scienza and might not have a manager by then, but at least the South Coast Derby's next.
DailySaintsPod: that is that is the That is the perfect storm to then make us win 5 -0, mate.
Greg: Oh.
DailySaintsPod: It's the wounded animal effect, right?
Greg: Cool.
DailySaintsPod: that's what that That was it. Football Martin was talking about how he thought that Wrexham...
Greg: Yeah.
DailySaintsPod: like you know wounded animal effect right that's probably one of the reasons they came out and kicked out and to be honest i don't know how much i agree with that because a wounded animal would not just, you know, put a shield up and stay behind it, as you pointed out, with seven defenders.
Greg: Yeah.
Greg: Score from a corner and a long ball from the keeper.
DailySaintsPod: but
Greg: You know? it
DailySaintsPod: Or we we we what we should do in that that three -week period is is get another set -peaks coach. that you know if they got a set piece coach, peach coast, set piece coach. for attacking We should have a set -piece coach for defending.
DailySaintsPod: I keep saying set peach, hey ho.
Greg: Yeah. Have we? Oh, no.
DailySaintsPod: Yo.
Greg: I mean maybe that would be better just Who knows? Do we have a set piece coach for attacking?
DailySaintsPod: I genuinely don't know anymore.
Greg: I don't know if that is the case.
DailySaintsPod: like this is This is what I mean.
Greg: Isn't the set piece...
DailySaintsPod: is
Greg: I mean, hasn't the set -piece plan for this long just been give Ryan Manning the ball and see what happens? And now it's give Ryan Manning or James Ward Prowse the ball depending on whose foot it it's better suits.
DailySaintsPod: Oh, yeah, but then...
DailySaintsPod: I don't know. Sometimes the UCNs used to take quarters. Who knows anymore? We'll have to pay a bit more attention to who's taken what.
Greg: If I remember rightly, none of them were good. Like...
DailySaintsPod: Oh, savage takedown on an already on a man already injured, mate.
Greg: yeah
Greg: Look.
DailySaintsPod: Come on now.
Greg: Look, I love Leo and he is... you know far and away one of the most talented players on... On our team. i don't think i've seen him take a corner that gets past the first man And. that's fine right you don't have to be good at all parts of the game
DailySaintsPod: There you go, so we that's what we should do we should clip up that and and watch as some somebody manages to pull out a compilation of all of the goals off of the back of Leo Scienza's quarters. And...
Greg: Yeah.
DailySaintsPod: Yeah.
Greg: And if someone wants to do that homework... fair play to them. It won't be me.
DailySaintsPod: it
Greg: you know or I respect the hustle. I don't see it.
DailySaintsPod: That's fair.
Greg: look
DailySaintsPod: That's fair.
Greg: I... I have shouted at Leo from my seat on more than one occasion. Just shoot from the corner. You've got more of a chance. And then looked on in disappointment on more than one occasion when it's just been headed away. bathed out for a goal kick.
Greg: So...
DailySaintsPod: No, I know, I know.
Greg: What? it
DailySaintsPod: But yeah, that's that's my point, is that we've got a lot to look forward to. And ultimately, you know, we we lost. to a team that... round out a win, right? They probably didn't necessarily expect it.
Greg: Yeah.
DailySaintsPod: A vast majority of Wrexham fans probably expected to be beaten. uh you know. They won.
Greg: Yeah.
DailySaintsPod: Good for them. Happy days. We move on to the next game.
Greg: Good. If we win the next one, no one is remembering the... 2 -1 lost to Wrexham before the...
DailySaintsPod: I don't even know how much we lost to Watford and that was the first game of the season, mate. So it says it all, really.
Greg: before the entire Jurassic period of time off we have to endure now that there's an international break.
DailySaintsPod: Oh. It really gets you every time. But to be fair, I didn't realize it was three weeks. And then that really, really annoyed me.
Greg: Yeah. We've got four international games to put up with before Pompey.
DailySaintsPod: Oh, that's...
Greg: Like, it it is literally...
DailySaintsPod: It's not a World Cup. What's the point?
Greg: it literally an entire month until our next game of football. All right, the 19th.
DailySaintsPod: We've literally had we've had a World Cup this year. I don't i don't care anymore.
Greg: Yeah. we were talking We were talking, mate, about what we might do as some kind of content when we after a little break in the international break.
DailySaintsPod: Oh.
Greg: And we talked about maybe doing some like hot takes. And I'll give you one for free right now. Just bin international football completely. Do away with it. Even the World Cup wasn't good this year. Just put it in the bin.
DailySaintsPod: yeah but You say that and then you'll get to the Euros and you're going to get all excited and we're going to run around in circles again. And then we're all going to get our hopes up and they're all going to get to the semifinals and then we're going to get knocked out and it's going to be...
Greg: you know I'm excited for... But. one game of knockout football that will inevitably get beaten.
Greg: I don't know.
DailySaintsPod: Well, on that absolutely...
Greg: what you for being made.
DailySaintsPod: wonderful, cheery note.
Greg: Yeah.
DailySaintsPod: uh do you have anything to say to our wonderful listeners before we depart greg
Greg: Yeah, it's alright, look. We go again. We've got... all the time in the world to prepare for the next game and the... occasion that it's going to bring. And I can't wait. I'm excited for it.
DailySaintsPod: Yeah, still got a long season to go. We've still got points to twins to make up. It'll be fine. uh it's just you know one of those little bumps in the road and it's don't get me wrong frustrating bump in the road Definitely shouldn't have been a bump in the road. but That's usually the ones that you don't expect. It's the ones that hurt a little bit more. That's why. So yeah, we'll be maybe back tomorrow.
DailySaintsPod: We might do a championship roundabout. I haven't quite decided. You haven't quite decided either.
Greg: Hmm.
DailySaintsPod: We'll figure out.
Greg: Good night. Look mate, also...
Greg: Still 108 points to play for this season, right? To put it in perspective.
DailySaintsPod: Whew.
Greg: So long, innit?
DailySaintsPod: win and win win past 100. Anywho.
Greg: Yeah, perfect
