Speaker: And we're starting it. It's like a news thing. And five, four, three. Hi, welcome to the Park Moms podcast where your host Haley and Becca. This is a place where we laugh and chat about the chaotic bliss of raising young kids. So whether you're about to take a hot mom walk or start a load of laundry, let's get to yapping. Let's get to it. dyoo I like, we have to say we're back, even though that's what we said last time. The third time's the charm.

Speaker: The third time's the charm and we have very good reason. Yes. We have good reason because I feel like we should start with you. Well, obviously, i I think the last episode was right before me giving birth, and now I have a newborn. And this is crazy. She's eight weeks. Can you believe that? She really? Yeah. You're cleared. I'm cleared, yeah. For all activities.

Speaker: I did go to the gym today for the first time, so that's probably what you mean, right? I'm so... Yes, that's all I'm talking about is the gym. Not any of that other stuff. You still have plenty of time to get back to that, which...

Speaker: By the way, i shouldn't ask you this on the podcast. Are you going to do birth control? Okay, i already put it in just because I want to like... What did you do? arm bar? did the arm bar. It's right here. did it hurt? but No, I've had it before and I feel like it works fine for me. And this sounds weird. Okay, so I'm going to give this analogy and I feel like it was helpful. Like, I know this is our last... Yeah. But I'm not ready to like deadbolt the door yet, if that makes sense. Like, I'm done, but I just want to give it like two years just to like... two years? Yeah.

Speaker: I think like two years. I'm yeah shocked. We have not had this conversation offline. Yeah. I didn't. I thought that you would have been like done vasectomy right away. Like me when I was three weeks, three weeks postpartum.

Speaker: I think like, I know it's final and I really know, actually like, no, we're going another kid, but I'm also kind of like. you sure? I would say like 99%. You're not? No, the door's not open. Like, I don't think I'm going to have a fifth But remember what Melissa said, if the door's cracked, the door's wide open? Is your door cracked? It's not cracked. I think it's shut, but it's not deadbolted.

Speaker: Okay, okay. And when you do have a tectomy, it is deadbolted. Yeah, and I felt like, um Sam was like, oh, we can do it, whatever. And I was kind of waiting because I'm like, I didn't I guess I wanted to make sure I had my birth control and so I didn't get pregnant now So I'm like, I don't want to like I don't want to like wait and you know not have him get the vasectomy then maybe like you know, I have to like wait for a little while and stuff and so I'm like I'm not risking getting pregnant right now So I'm putting my birth control in because I do not want to get pregnant obviously right now or at all but wait, did you know that they have to? for Can we say this on the internet? Okay, for the vasectomy they have to

Speaker: clear out their inventory. Yeah, there you go. A few times. They have clear out the inventory. And I was like, I was three weeks postpartum. And i was like, I do not time to be clearing out your inventory. Good luck. Like this good, good luck. Let me know when you, the warehouse is clean. Yeah, perfect. And then the warehouse is now clean. Okay. See, like, and I've also heard of some people on their last, like they'll, um, has some of the time to be while they're pregnant. I'm like, that's smart. Cause then you have like yeah enough time to like get it kind of wish you would have done that.

Speaker: But I, like, don't want to be that person that, like, it's not completely finalized. Well, shout out vi Vasectomy Pro in Lehigh, Utah. They did a great job. So for all of you... It's definitely coming. Like... Okay.

Speaker: But I just said, like, I'll do birth control until we that. You took one for the team. I took one for the team. Probably for, like, i said two years. Probably a year. Two years is a long time. Like, you could change your mind. Like, you could have a two-year-old. I think that's why I don't want I don't think I'll change my mind, but I also don't want to...

Speaker: changed my mind in a year. do you know what i'm saying? Yeah. Yeah. I, if you had five kids, I would be shocked. I have kids is a TLC show. I have two of my good friends. One just had her fifth and one is pregnant with her fifth. And I'm just like, you guys are, you guys are warriors. I don't know how else to put it.

Speaker: People are doing it though. Like people are doing five kids. i feel like crazy having four kids, especially working for a San Francisco company where most people have one or two kids. Yeah. And some people have no kids yet that are my same age. I'm like, now I feel like very great. like that night when that They're like, is it your first? i'm like, no, it's my fourth. No, when I tell people I have four kids, I feel like I should be like wearing a prairie dress and like milking a cow and like... It feels extra full.

Speaker: it's ah It's a lot. Okay, so let's talk about... ah We have so much to talk about because, well, okay, before we get into your full birth story, i do want to say we have put the podcast on the back burner for a long time, and we really just were both in survival mode, I want to say, this past year. But good news.

Speaker: I am for sure, i am not working. I am not working in an official capacity for someone else. Yeah. I am always to have a project, but I want to make the podcast like my main focus. And you are still deciding if you're going back to work. Yeah. I'm on maternity leave right now. So plenty of time to allocate to the podcast. um So if Haley's point, get sick of us because we're really going to be consistent about recording every other week. And maybe we'll start every week if we start to get really... If we're both not working. Yeah. We could do every week.

Speaker: Also, not committing to that yet. Also, we are recording during the day right now, which we have never done. That was another thing. We had multiple weeks. We're like, okay, we're going to do Tuesday night, Thursday night. Let's do this night. By the end of the day with four kids, I am done. 7 p.m. happens. My brain is not working. And so there's so many nights where i was like, if we record tonight, I will start speaking in a different language because I, my brain's not working. How many times do you think we rescheduled this exact recording? 12 times. It's just kidding. It definitely is at least five. like So we're trying during the day right now. Yeah. So that we support us so we can pay a babysitter so that we can always record during the day. Yes. Like and comment and share. don't even know. Subscribe. I actually don't know like what even makes you money on Instagram. and like Tell us. like Is it really true that watching the whole video is what makes people money? It's so different. Or is it just sponsorships? Facebook views are different than Instagram. Brand deals, commissions, affiliate links. like There's so many different ways to make money.

Speaker: I feel like a sponsorship would be good for podcast. the money we're in it for the moms yeah i actually was listening i have one podcast that i'm like a little loyalist to and they were saying like we love this job because it's so fulfilling and i feel like both of us are very like talkative we love to like hear people's perspectives we love to give advice we're not quiet that's good or bad yeah um and so i think like i could see why a podcast was so fulfilling for them and i feel the same way so hopefully you guys love to hear from us and we'll continue to record yeah We're about to, we're on the precipice. Yes, great exactly. Okay, so should I jump into like the yeah birth story? We need to hear about your birth story.

Speaker: What's wild to me is it it was eight weeks ago and it honestly feels so far away. Like that just, you know that like song? It's slipping through my fingers all the time.

Speaker: Every minute. That's how I feel. The lives that you live, I think when you're not sleeping in the newborn phase, your days feel longer because they are longer. It's like so long and so short. And then I, since it's our last, I do feel like I am so like...

Speaker: what's the right word it's not nostalgic but i'm like already like missing what's happening in the moment i'm like the newborn phase is slipping away from me and i actually love the newborn phase i know that's not the case for you and i'm like this is just so sad i'll never do this again and i think maybe that's why i don't want to like finalize it even though i know it's final it's more just like yeah wow i'm really closing this chapter there is no so i've said this on the pod before there's no such thing as good babies and bad babies but live is a good baby She is a good baby. And I feel like she's just so chill. And it's been nice up to this point because Sam, my husband, hasn't been working for six of the weeks. so only two weeks he's been working so far. And so I really do feel like I held her like her whole first like six weeks, him or I did. Yes. And so it's just like she's had so much like

Speaker: love and attention. And i mean you've been able to like really take it all in. Yes. And we moved before, obviously. And I think that was like crazy, but perfect timing because we can just like enjoy yeah our house and enjoy the time with her. And it's just been so good like smooth. And obviously you said live. It's a girl. sorry.

Speaker: and No, no. I i think we put it on. It's it's out there. The universe knows. Yeah. um But this sounds kind of cheesy, but like I feel like I can't even... be angry if I'm like not getting enough sleep where I feel like crap postpartum because I'm so grateful we got a girl. I'm like still on cloud nine. Like I genuinely still can't believe i'm like, do I even really have a girl? It's just so shocking and so special. And I'm just like so grateful. Now that you know she's a girl, cause I feel like you were in denial. You're most of your, well, yeah maybe not most of your pregnancy, but i do feel like you at first thought it was a girl and then you were in denial to try to like protect yourself. Now that you know she's a girl,

Speaker: do you feel like you had a feeling she was a girl or like you're still shocked i'm shocked because i'm like how is this true since i've had three boys in a row so i think that's where the shock factor really comes yeah but my gut feeling was it was a girl i was just afraid to think that because if it wasn't i didn't want to like be disappointed like you really do have to prepare for both outcomes especially with a surprise baby which is what we did with her um but like i feel a couple of things that would, I guess, show me that I was a girl that were more than just my gut feeling is I really was so much sicker. were a lot sicker. Like throwing up wise. Like I grew up with the boys. Like for sure I threw up during the pregnancy, but not every single day. And I was throwing up some of the days until I was like 29 weeks, which was way longer than the boys. weren't you throwing up a little bit at the end too? Yeah.

Speaker: And the um boys, I like stopped throwing them like 14 or 15 weeks. So I'm like, that felt very different. And then my cravings were actually really different too. Really? Yes. I feel like, um, I craved like fast food and like sour stuff in the beginning and then sweet stuff by the end, like super sweet. And with the boys, I feel like I just didn't care for anything. I was kind of just like, food sounds disgusting. Yeah. Yeah. And like, I would be scrolling like TikTok at night and see like Taco Bell or like, I don't even know. and I'm like, Ooh, I need this. You need it right now. Yeah. Cereal was one that I loved.

Speaker: Pickles. Anyways. So that was one thing that made me think it was a girl. And then, um, I actually thought this was a boy because of this instance, but in retrospect, I'm like, oh, now it makes sense. The only person who knew who the gender was was our ultrasound tech, and she goes, well, your baby's a model baby. That's the only clue she gave us. Also, didn't she say something that made it sound like it was a boy?

Speaker: Um, my, uh, OBGYN did. Oh yeah. She said it was a boy twice. Twice. She said it was a boy or he, she said, she said it was a, um, okay. So the ultrasound tech, she said as a model baby. And I'm like, at first we like put that, Oh, that's for sure. Boy. She's just trying to be nice because she feels bad. We're not having a girl. But now I'm like, maybe she was saying that like as a girl. So that was one. It could be boy or a girl. Yeah. Like,

Speaker: It is a little hint. It is a little tiny hint. And then on the other OB or sorry, the other ultrasound tech came in too. And she's like, I could just not keep this a secret. And I, I don't know, I guess looking back that maybe it was a hint. And then um it's funny because my midwife actually called um her a boy twice. And so going in, I'm like, it has to be a boy. And she's like, I promise you, I don't know. And it turns out she really didn't know. And so she didn't know. She didn't know.

Speaker: Oh, I thought she just wasn't telling you. She did not know. She didn't know. She was probably saying boy because you had three boys already. Yeah, and she's like, I could go look in your file and see from the ultrasound, but since you didn't do genetic testing, it's not like right here. Like, you're a boy or you're a girl. And so she's like, and I'm not going to look because I don't want to mess it up for you. so And I literally asked her, i'm like, is it a boy because you said it's a boy? And she's like, i promise you I don't know. And so it was really sweet. Like, in the actual...

Speaker: delivery she was surprised too and like the nurses were and they're like we really don't have people do surprises anymore and it's so special and like I feel like the whole room was kind of like crying really it was sweet it was such a sweet moment me and Sam were bawling I'm just like in the window like looking through the window like what is it can you imagine if I did that yeah no honestly And I wish we all had more footage. So like, okay, we had my, I had my two sisters come this time and I was a little nervous about that because I've only ever had my husband and my mom one other time, but they really wanted to experience it. knew it was my last. And so that was really special be able to get footage. But i like, if I could go back, I would also have one camera person on the other side of me because Sam, my husband, announced like it's a girl and you can't even like really see him in the video because it's like filming from behind him. And so, yeah. If you do end up doing a surprise or even as any birth, I think like get the footage. You don't both think you want it. I know. and I never got it. Are you kind of sad? I actually got the full.

Speaker: You probably would hate this. I got the full like birth. No, see, I would hate that. See, I never do my others. This last break we got nothing. Is that kind of sad? Like, yes and no. I'm okay. I'm good. She's like, I do not want to watch that over and over again. And I didn't either. And this is the only time I did it. And I'm so glad I did just because I cried watching your video. kind of weird, but it is like very beautiful. Like when you see the action of the baby come out.

Speaker: I also did something else crazy. I did a mirror. Yeah, that is crazy. had a friend recommend it to me, Maddie, and I'm so glad I did because it like really motivated me. It did? That's what they say that they're supposed to do, but every time they ask me, I'm like, absolutely not. what Whatever is happening down there is none of my business. Make sure that I don't die. Make sure the baby is safe, but like I don't want to know. i don't want to know. It wasn't as weird as I expected, I'll be honest. like Really? I feel like it was fine.

Speaker: I mean, you've seen a birth video before, haven't you? You never watched one when you before you had a baby? Nope. Nope. you um you may You may hate it then. Okay, wait. Actually, this is a good question. You did a surprise. Obviously, I did a surprise this time.

Speaker: would like Would you recommend it to a friend?

Speaker: I feel like we had different outcomes, but I feel bad saying that because i Okay. Now that Margo is... My baby is nine months. I think she's almost nine months. Where is she? Nine months. Anyway. She... I am obsessed with her. Yeah. truly, she is the cutest, happiest, most fun baby after we made it through the newborn phase. Like, yeah she was...

Speaker: The hardest newborn. So colicky. But now I'm just like, I literally want to go wake her up from her now because she's so smiley, so fun. So I would never change her gender. But when obviously I had two girls and then one boy and I wanted my boy to have a brother. yeah So I feel like my surprise, I didn't get what I wanted. Mm-hmm.

Speaker: But like now that she's here, I'm like, this makes so much sense. So I don't know. I feel like we had different experiences. I do feel like it was fun, but also in my heart, I knew she was a girl the whole time. really Oh, I like if they would have put her on my chest i' been like, it's a boy. I would have been like, no, it's not. You're like, wait, no, it's not. It can't be. So I feel like we had different experiences.

Speaker: Would you say like in the moment that you were just like happy to have her there or was there a little bit at disappointment? Like, oh, I kind of hoped as maybe a boy. No, I actually had zero gender disappointment like right when she came out. Like right when she came out and I knew it was a girl, I like felt so, and I know this doesn't happen for everyone, I felt instantly connected to her so there was no like sadness that she was a boy. But I feel like it wasn't a surprise because like I knew in my heart and it wasn't like, feel like it would have been a surprise if it was a boy. Yeah. What mean? Exactly. um And it's kind of,

Speaker: like sad to say you even have gender disappointment because like obviously you're just so grateful for like a healthy baby like that once you meet them you're like oh it makes sense like you are who you are and you're supposed to be part of our family so it doesn't even the gender doesn't matter it does not matter and i think like that's kind of why it's like worth it to do a surprise because i feel like with my third having another boy i did have a little bit of gender disappointment just because i was like kind of hoping it was going to be a girl with a third boy and um obviously i still had like 20 more weeks or even longer i think i found out like 13 weeks to finish the pregnancy and then when i met him like this is perfect this is exactly supposed to be in our family and now that he's how old is he too he's still now that he's two it's like well yeah you were always a boy and you were supposed to be a boy and i would never change anything because you're they're there and you love them and they're just like there it's how your family is supposed to be yeah and then but with having a girl at the end and like waiting till the end even if it was a boy i mean I guess I can't really say for sure but I think I actually would have probably had way less gender disappointment if I still did a surprise because then at least I'm meeting my baby and you have opportunity this is a paid actor yeah we've actually had a fly in the episode before because what is going on remember have you seen Breaking Bad I've seen the of there's whole episode about flies and it's the most annoying episode but um

Speaker: Anyway, so I'm like, I do feel like that is one reason if you're actually hoping for a certain gender that it actually is. Everyone told me the opposite. Like, you're going so disappointed if it's boy. But I think if you're actually hoping for a certain gender, it's actually better to do a surprise because no matter what, you get to meet your baby and your there's no disappointment. Yes, exactly. And maybe I'm wrong on that because I obviously got who what I was hoping for, but feel like... because I did the same thing. Yeah. I did the same thing. So, like, I would still suggest it to someone. Yeah. I would 100% recommend it to a friend. Would you? Yes, yes. I think it was such a fun experience. And someone told me this is there's no like real true surprises in your life very frequently. And it's so true. yeah And so it was it was really fun. i would 100% recommend it. It is opposite, very, very opposite of my personality to do this. And like everyone was telling me, why are you doing this? You are crazy. This is not you at all. was And it is true.

Speaker: But now that I've done it, I'm like, I think I would do it again. Okay. And the hard things about it, like you can't shop for them. Yeah. Right. You can't like really plan for them. Naming is hard, but like all of that stuff worked out, right? Like, do you feel like it was worth it for those hard things to have such a special moment? Absolutely. i think the, honestly, the true, actually hardest part was only just like going to the ultrasound and like not knowing at that moment, just because we could know. Yeah. yeah everything else was fine like we did the nursery later i had tons of gender neutral clothes and i bought a few outfits for either and then i just like gifted some of the other outfits i got to people who had the opposite gender oh that's perfect and then um the name was a little tricky but not hard it was just more like dang it we don't really have a name right this second because we really didn't let ourselves believe it was a girl yeah and so we really we had some names we ended up going with a name that wasn't even like the name i was telling people which is funny so

Speaker: But you met her and you knew what her name was going to be. Exactly. I'm so happy when I like, I remember where I was, not me making your birth story about me, but I was sitting i was sitting table yeah i was sitting at my kitchen table and like Camden was in the kitchen and I saw the video and I just started, I was like, it's so cruel. I just started crying and he was like, why are you crying I was like, you don't get it. You just don't get it. Cause I didn't even cry at my own births, but I'm literally crying when I find out that. You were there through the whole journey though. And like the un-pensability. Well, just like, I think I told you from the beginning that I thought it was a girl. Yeah.

Speaker: And which I could have backfired. I could have, it could have been a boy. You could have been like, you so thought it was a girl, but I, from the beginning, I was like, it's a girl, it's a girl, it's a girl. And so like, I just like love that I was right. Yes. It's such a good feeling. Oh, my intuition.

Speaker: Well, and your pregnancy was so different. I totally understand why you weren't letting yourself think that. But like knowing you through your preg every pregnancy, because I've i've known you through every every four pregnancies is crazy. That is crazy. It's like I knew what your pregnancies were like from an outside perspective. And so I felt like it was different. So ask your friend if you're doing surprise. They'll know you. They'll know. Was it actually looking back? Was it actually annoying how much I like talked about it? probably talked about a lot. Wait, I know. Not at all.

Speaker: I'm serious. okay you're beating a dead horse. I thought about it all the time. No, i I feel like how could you not? Yeah. I guess the only last side part, and maybe this was for you too, is like the last week or two leading up to the birth when you're like nesting, I really wanted to know. Like, because I kept imagining either scenarios and like having dreams about like, it's going to be a girl, it's going to be boy, how is this going to change our family?

Speaker: And, like, that the hard actually feel like by that point i was done. it It did just make me want to, like, all right, let's go give birth. But truly, like, I'm not even just saying this, I knew Margot was a girl. Like, I knew it. So there wasn't a question, really?

Speaker: There really wasn't a question. Like, really I was 95% sure she was a girl. Yeah. And so was Camden. like and Really? Oh, and, like, no one in my life thought it was a boy. That's so funny. Well, you're basically a girl, mom, plus โ€“ Okay, actually also if you're like have three of one gender and you're kind of wondering if you'll have one of the other gender more and more people I'm meeting have three of one gender. Okay. And one of the other. Like I feel like it's really common like three girls and one boy or yeah three girls and I want to know like the math behind that.

Speaker: Well, my anesthesiologist the day of literally was telling me there's a 60% chance of you having another boy if you already have three boys. So yeah, he was telling me that. was putting my epidural. feel just like made that up.

Speaker: don't know. He's up there science behind it. Anesthesiologists, and I don't want to offend anyone if like your husband or if you're an anesthesiologist, every man that I've met is that's an anesthesiologist feels like he's compensating for something. So what, women can't be an anesthesiologist? No, they can. But have you ever had one?

Speaker: No, I'm just kidding. Have you ever had a woman anesthesiologist? No, I have not. Okay, see, exactly. I feel like my experience with them, they just feel like a little bit, I don't know, explain it. Just like, it used to be like the top job though, because remember the most. Too there. Yeah. They're almost too cool to be there. Like they're almost, and maybe it's because I'm always giving birth at night and so they probably are very tired and just like don't want to be there. I'm like, you get paid a lot of money to be here.

Speaker: Okay, so obviously we talked about the birth. Honestly, it was like truly the best experience ever. And on I'm just happier postpartum than I am pregnant. Yeah, yeah. I just feel like that's... better for me. Yes. And it's just like the anxiety of like having the baby isn't there anymore. And like, you know, they're here and they're safe. And then you just have the anxiety of raising a newborn now. Well, and the sleep deprivation is hard, but it's hard in a different way. And you know that it's temporary. Well, you're while really either. No, no. Um, but yeah, it is funny. I like put a couple things of things that things I had forgotten. And like, if you just forget so quickly, the first thing is sleep is like your life

Speaker: ability and life battery is based off like how much sleep you get a night. You're like, if I yeah slept last night, I'm happy. If I didn't, I'm grumpy and I hate everyone. No. Have you seen the, it's like a Tik TOK reveal where the husband and wife, it's like when you slept well last night and they're like, kids, your dad's the best. Like, look at that. Like, I love you. And then it's like when you guys didn't sleep well and he's like, get up here, deadbeat dad. And it's so true. Camden and I, if we don't sleep the night before we are at each other's throats. Like both like we're resentful. And I'm like, you got 20 more minutes of me. And he's like, well, I got up with it. And it's like, But if you both sleep, it's like, hey, the sun is shining. We love each other. Yes.

Speaker: This is our family. Yes. I don't get like necessarily hangry, but I get, when I'm sleep deprived, what would you call that? I get mad and mean and... I'm unwell. Yeah. When I'm sleep different. I'm unwell. And so like getting, not getting sleep is crazy. And then just like, are they going to nap in the car? Can we time this to make it? It's a lot of timing. It's just a lot of like, how do we make sure they sleep the end of the day? And like, I still get enough sleep too. So that was like a funny reminder. Very random for the people watching on the video. Have you gotten a phone leash yet? No, but I've heard about them and I need one for my keys as well. Every mom needs a phone leash. I made fun of these before. It's kind of buggy like on the counter though. No, no, My friend, I'll take it off when I'm like,

Speaker: I don't know. It's nighttime. Yeah. My friend Chandler had it and she sent me the link. This is actually a different one. $3 on Amazon. Take it off at nighttime? Look, you just un... I know this is annoying for people just listening. Just like put on my nightstand.

Speaker: Oh. But literally like... Oh, so like it's easier to scroll? Yeah. Yeah, exactly. Like doing yard work, having... Because I'm not a purse carrier. not. I'm not carrying a purse. But I also don't usually have pockets. Oh. Oh.

Speaker: So I'm going link this because it's three how do hold this? Like, do you put it on your arm or something? No, I put it like a crossbody. Oh. This is the new mom crossbody is the phone strap. you remember the Lululemon cross or the cross? Oh, the way that the Lululemon crossbody had us millennials in a chokehold. That combo with the biker shorts mean and the hokas and the ankle socks and an oversized t-shirt. I'm actually glad that that era is over.

Speaker: I'm glad it's over. There's a new version of it, but... It's the phone strap. The phone strap is new version. Caprice. Have you changed your mind on capris yet? No, I'm still so millennial. i don't feel like the millennials onto the capris yet.

Speaker: No, I feel like they are. Are they? The cool ones. I actually, i usually agree with you on trends being annoying, but I think the capris can be chic. I think it's because you're tall. yeah I feel like it's a better- I've never tried it. It's better on a tall woman than a short woman. But yeah, phone leash. Every mom needs a phone leash because I'm trying to be better about texting people back and answering my phone. And so when it's on me, I can just like whip it out.

Speaker: mean Have I been better? What? that I'm now a call person, which is like actually the most annoying thing ever. You are a call person now. you're But you're a voice memo yeah queen. I love a voice memo. You love a voice. You're like, and it's annoying and seven minutes long. love it. I love it. No, I love it. I'm just dying because sometimes I'm like, she just sent me a five minute voice memo. Like what? Well, like just get off the phone. I'm like, what more does she have to say?

Speaker: But I love it. But you are turning into a caller. I'm turning into little bit caller. I'm growing up. Well, have time to call now. And actually hate when people call me because it's like, do they need something? Should I answer right now? Especially when someone doesn't normally call me. I'm like, oh crap, like, are they like right by the location? Or like, do they need my help immediately? Or why are they calling Yeah, I know when you're calling me, it's not an emergency. So I like answering. Yeah. Cause I know that you're calling you just to chat. Yeah. And I'll usually say that. Like I'm calling just to chat that it gives you the opportunity to be like, well, I need to go. Like, well, I don't have time to chat. Okay. Um, okay. Here's one thing that's been so funny postpartum and maybe it's cause I'm like extra nostalgic and like missing this chapter, but they grow out of things so fast. Like I'm already out of size one diaper or size, size newborn diaper. I'm almost a size two.

Speaker: What? Yes, I'm like, she's growing so fast. And I'm like, okay, this is way sad, but I only am just getting the girl clothes and then I'm packing them away to never be used again. I know, but do you should keep them for when she has kids. Yes, I'm like, I'll pass them along. Especially like the cute I'm going sisters. Yes, yes, yes. I'll have probably girls and boys.

Speaker: But I'm like, it's just kind of sad that it's only one use. I know. I know. And sometimes they'll wear it like literally two times. Do you have any of your boy clothes anymore or are they all gone? I am a get ridder of everything. Literally, like I just went through... well I had don't have room in my house. Yeah. Our closets are so tiny and all my kids share rooms. So like...

Speaker: I just throw it away and I'm like, do you know what? It's okay. It served its purpose. Yeah, it really has. And like, but it is like sad because you're like, oh, I just barely got this. And now it's like gone forever. And like, it's nice that we got to have three of the same gender where we're like literally passing down all of those. um Okay. The other thing is when you're not like pregnant or postpartum or like going through something hard, you just forget how much you like need people. Yes. And I think like during pregnancy and moving and postpartum, I really felt like I had like the village and I just want to say how grateful I am for that, for like people showing up for me because so many people have and like, it honestly makes me like emotional to think about, but it's ah such a good reminder for me to like be that person for other people. And like, honestly was like feeling guilty. I'm like, i hope I like, did I even drop off meal for this person? Did i stop by? Did I check in on them? You know? And because so many people were doing that for me. And it's just such a good reminder of like, you just get in your own bubble sometimes like what you need and like take care of people, serve them. And like yeah it means so much as a person. Well, and sometimes it feels like it has to be this big grand thing. yeah Like, for example, I feel like the normal thing to do is when someone has a baby, you make dinner. Yeah. i that is my biggest fear. I don't even cook for my own family. Cooking for someone else actually makes me want to throw up. Like, it makes me so nervous. And so I'm like, okay, what's like something that I'm good at? And I think I've talked about this before. And like, so for my best friends, I do their newborns. Yep. And I'm just like,

Speaker: That is something that I can give that I enjoy, but, like, people really love and appreciate. Like, they don't need another casserole that they're not going to eat from me that I would probably burn or, like, be just inedible.

Speaker: Like, what's a talent that I can bring? So, like, your talent is โ€“ it doesn't even have to be a talent, but I feel like it's fun to be creative in ways. Like, literally, i feel like the best help I had postpartum was, like โ€“ What's your favorite energy drink? What's your favorite coffee order? What's your favorite this? like Can I grab your kids for the afternoon? Yes. Taking the older kids is a huge one. But yeah, I felt the same way postpartum. And I was literally like, am I a good enough friend to be receiving all this love and love? Like I like almost felt unworthy of it. And even Camden was like, oh my gosh, like I didn't realize you had so many friends. And was like, honestly, I didn't either. Like people I hadn't talked to for a while were like, hey, I'm dropping this off. and I'm like, oh my gosh. yeah like

Speaker: Thank you. It's so sweet. One meal that someone dropped off to me, which i feel like would be an easy one. I could do it. Well, it's all it's done for you. So she went to Trader Joe's. She got um a soda or like a, not a soda, whatever their drinks are, lemonade. Yeah. And then she had pizza dough, pizza mozzarella. Oh, cute. I could do that.

Speaker: popcorn and um pepperoni hotcorn and popcorn was like she said pizza in a movie night was a thing you just threw the popcorn in there as if it was part of the pizza and i was like hold on hold on am i missing something you're like marinara popcorn pepperoni i was like after evening snack okay But I'm like, that is such a cute idea. a cute idea. I could that. It feels thoughtful, too. It's like, oh, that's a full put-together meal and kids. And there's going to be Trader Joe's next to us soon. Yes, I hope so. I'm a hoe for Trader Joe's. I just never go because we're kind of far from both Trader Joe's. Like, we're right in the middle of two of them, and it's not bringing kids to Trader Joe's. They each take too much time. Yeah. Well, there was one other thing that someone did for me that, oh, just, like, drop off a swig. Like you said, get a coffee. Even just, like, a check-in text and, you don't need to respond to this, but just now I'm thinking about you or...

Speaker: Or like a random like, hey, I'm free today from one three. can drop your kids off. Those type of things are just like so helpful. And I'm just so grateful. And it is a reminder to me like check in on your people. Yeah. Especially if they're like quiet and going dark because they probably need it the most. Well, even, okay, and I can't get into this because the episode will be way too long. our dog died last week.

Speaker: Why are you laughing? that's how I deal with trauma. Okay. You think I laugh. I literally, I have to make jokes when I'm, when I'm in a bad situation, I make jokes. Like he was literally dying in the car and at my neighbors and some friends were over and they were like, Haley, just so you know, like, don't get too close to his face. Like when they're about to die or like they can bite or something. was like, so he's going to, I am legend me. And everyone everyone's like, Haley, I'm like, well, Like, I have to make jokes. Okay, but really quickly. our dog died last Our dog died last week, and it was sudden and traumatic. My husband was out of town. it was terrible.

Speaker: Honestly, terrible situation. um But so many people, like, i don't know. I feel like people's dogs die all the time. So many people dropped off cookies and just, like, I was like, wait, what? Like, this is... And and the other thing I will say, like, there was a dark cloud over our whole house yeah for literally, like, five days straight. Like, my kids are still โ€“ and they're they're fine. Like, he was 10, and we handled it how we, like, the best way possible. He got hit by car, which was, like, a little traumatic. But I don't know. I feel like i'm like โ€“ it put into perspective for me that, like โ€“

Speaker: A loss is a loss. Yeah. And like, then I started thinking about everyone in my life who's had like, I don't know, a parent die or like a kid passed away or something. and I'm like, oh my gosh. Like, how are they? I just like, sounds weird to me me. Like have so much respect for people that go through really hard tragedy. But that's all I'll say about that. but When people show up for you, it really just like is the best. It's hard to accept it but it is like so nice and a good reminder. Oh, that just reminded me of hard to accept. Another sweet thing my friend did for me, she threw me a baby shower postpartum, which was so cute.

Speaker: And it was so nice because like I honestly was kind of feeling dumb the whole time so I'm like i don't really need a shower for my fourth baby. But it's funny because like the person that preaches every baby should be celebrated. then when it's you, you just feel kind of dumb. well And it was your first girl. And honestly like Saab was like the one who was like, okay, this like we're doing this.

Speaker: We need to make this happen. Like you just you have so many people that love you and also love Liv and wanted to celebrate her. Yeah. it was it was really yeah yeah um haley and a few of my friends put it together and it was just like so thoughtful and i again i felt kind of done leading up to my i don't want people to feel like they need to do this or have to come but it felt so fun to celebrate her yes and she was there to have all the friends show up and like that's another thing is like showing up to your friends stuff like that really does mean so much to the person um Yeah, so I might, that was another really sweet thing. We'll to post more pics from that. Okay, I feel like we've talked so much about postpartum, so maybe we go into September favorites. Let's go into favorite quick September favorites and just like rapid fire. So you go first, and then I'm going to try not to make any commentary, and then I'll say mine. Yeah, that's going to hard.

Speaker: Okay, um lock it, lock it. i So I guess it's basically October, so let's just call these fall favorites. Okay, one of my favorite things right now, it's the just ingredients like mango or strawberry clear protein. I actually tried this at a restaurant that's new in Utah. It's called Quick Grains, and it is like the cleanest like tasting lemonade. I'll make it for you after so you can try it. have a new order today. I make it for salmon at night, and it does not taste like protein at all.

Speaker: And I've tried the Clean Simple Eat ones and I just... See, was going to say, don't like the Clean Simple Eats one. I like Clean Simple Eats other things, but not their clear protein. Same. So that's one thing. Number this is everyone knows this one, but it's so good. K18 dry shampoo. It's having its melting right now and like for good reason. I'm trying not to make comments.

Speaker: Thumbs up. I agree. Okay. Third. Okay. I love that like big graphic teas are in right now, especially for me postpartum. And i'm like, it's just such an easy, like I look cool. i have a cool graphic tea on. and plus one on that is sets. Like I feel like it's E.T. like sets. Like outfits that are set. Yeah.

Speaker: But, and I know Hailey loves this too. Like i got an Amazon set. This brand is actually Comfort. I got a bunch of ads from them, so that's how I bought from them, but you just feel so much more put together. You're so Gen Z and you're like camo. Put together. Yeah, I know. I'm really cool, huh? Yeah. Next thing I'm loving is going on walks is like the perfect fall weather here right now. And like either listening to an audible or a podcast by walking, i kind of forgot that like how uplifting or like rejuvenating is to like listen to a podcast or read because it just puts you out of your own head. Sometimes we can just like live in our own anxiety. And often you can have like friends to help supplement that on like a walk. But if you don't have that, it's just like a way to get out of your own head and just kind of yeah realize that everyone's going through the same stuff that you are. walks are just like a great mom hang.

Speaker: They really are. like And it's a great way to get to know someone that you don't know super well. Yeah, we should change this to the walking instead of the park moms. Because we haven't been hitting up the parks. We've been walking. yeah the Walking mom. No, walking't it doesn't flow made the way park moms does. We do say take a hot mom walk. That's true. That's true. We're hitting that. pro walking. Anti-running. Okay. okay running um There's a new TV series. It's so good. Have you seen it? Sterling Point. You got me. I cannot get into it. I'm sorry. I think I'm starting to feel old. i think because the kids are like 18, I almost feel... Weird. Predatory watching young children make out. They're children. I mean, can relate to that.

Speaker: But it is good. It does make me feel old, but the twists are so good. And I feel like it's a perfect... If you like rom-coms, like rom-com books, it's like the TV version of one. It does make me want to have a lake house. Yeah.

Speaker: I mean, maybe that's not your style of show, but it's really good. Guys, watch it. It's like way better than off campus. Did you watch off campus? I did watch off campus, but I don't know why I felt like because they were in college. These kids in Sterling Point graduated high school the week before they started the show. We're actually like old now, though. That's the thing is like we're not even close to being in high school anymore. What's 18 plus 18? I don't want to go there. 36? We're double their age almost.

Speaker: Okay. dont I can't. um Okay, this is like a very niche thing, but diaper cream spray. Did you get that? My friend gifted it to me, Dommy, and you instead of like wiping it on the bum, you like spray it.

Speaker: And it lasts longer. And it's like not disgusting. Mom's in STEM. Okay, the last thing for real is um mom cars. I know, hate to hate them, but they're honestly kind of the best. You got the cool mom car. I feel like you can't be like, oh, so annoying. I got a mom car. You got a Yukon. You literally got the coolest car. I'm over here pulling up in my Kia Carnival. my The name of my car is Carnival. Yeah, they did dirty on that. Why? They could have chosen any like Even Kavana would be better. Maybe because my life is a circus. Is that why they call it the Kia Carnival? Because I have so many damn kids that it's like...

Speaker: It's like a clown car. That's why they call it the carnival. It's a clown car. I just made the marketing connection. i guess I meant like I didn't know it'd be worth the investment because I'm like, oh, I can just make my Alex. Hate to hate my really cool car.

Speaker: I hate to hate my Yukon that Justin Bieber literally wrote a song about because it's so cool. We both got new cars and I chose the minivan route and you chose the cool mom car and it's fine.

Speaker: I'm not mad about it. very I will say, I'm definitely not a hater of minivans, so I love the minivans. No, you don't. Don't lie on this podcast. I love them for other people.

Speaker: Don't act like you like a minivan. Okay, I sound like such a brat. I sound like such a brat. It's okay. But I do... i It is worth the investment have ah to have more space in the car. Yeah. And to have an extra seat for carpool.

Speaker: I'm such a poser. I literally put a rack on top of my minivan just to make it look a little cooler. i will say, though, the Carnival, they're cool looking. Like, they're not as bad as the, like, traditional minivan. Yeah, like, what's the one...

Speaker: I don't want to hate. We looked at a Sienna. That was our other option. We went to go get a Sienna. Because we loved Toyota. And they had just sold it. And I was like, fine, show me the carnival. And then literally in 30 seconds, I was like, this is my card. Do the paperwork. OK, you know Carly in my neighborhood, though, she's like, I've never felt hotter. And she's literally not lying than being in her Kia carnival. Really? I feel like such a hot mom. So.

Speaker: um Wait, there you made me think of one more funny thing about hot mom crap. Oh, I think another reason why I feel like it's so worth it is one thing I'm learning that I'm like a stay-at-home mom right now. You live in the car. Yeah. Your life is in the car. And so it's nice to have a little space to throw crap in. Okay.

Speaker: Love it. Okay. These are my rapid fire ones. First one, not in spool, wreath. Okay, I know everyone has them for good reason. i literally bought all this stuff to DIY it because if you know me, I'm like a... I can thrift it or make it I bought coffee filters in the ring. And then I bought one and i it makes my front door so much cuter.

Speaker: And the ribbons are so fun. So if you're thinking about getting one, I thought about it for two and a half years. Yeah. And I wish I would just bought it. But that just... should i just like... I have a hard time buying the real thing if I think I can make something similar, but I don't think I could have. My mother-in-law gifted me mine, and that just made me think that's a really good gift for someone. If you need a nice or expensive gift. Because I've had mine for seven years, and then I'll just buy the ribbons for the different seasons. Yes, and you could DIY the ribbons. Yeah, yeah, have that kind of stuff. that is something to DIY. ribbons.

Speaker: So I've been loving that. Another thing that I'm obsessed with right now is Pinterest. Really? If you feel like you are scrolling, doom scrolling too much on TikTok or Instagram, but you still need like the dopamine rush of scrolling. But it's like draining you to do TikTok or Instagram? Try Pinterest because you can only be on Pinterest for so long. And Pinterest, the difference is I feel like it inspires me to go do something or make something. Whereas like TikTok and Instagram just makes me feel like I'm not doing enough. Pinterest makes me like, I don't know. It's so inspiring. And I'm just like on a huge Pinterest kick right now. And I'm in my like...

Speaker: gardening, sewing. going start sewing. That's going be my new personality. And so Pinterest is really fun. Okay, real quick on Pinterest. Is there like a way to get your ah algorithm to like what you like or like how do you do that The more you pin, the more you... Oh, you gotta pin. oh You gotta pin.

Speaker: Well, yeah, pinning stuff. Because all of mine is like home stuff right now, which I like, but I'm like, I feel like I'm seeing the same thing over and over I'm trying to find like cool mom outfits. I'm trying this new thing called getting dressed. I wasn't doing it for a time.

Speaker: Oh, oh. Like actually getting dressed. Like actually wearing clothes. thought that was a theme for something. No, no, no. Like i'm I'm trying this new thing called like yeah actually getting out of my workout clothes. It's my third day in a girl wearing jeans, which I think that that's the first time in years that I've worn jeans through. it help your mental health? I'm...

Speaker: I feel like it is better not just wear leggings all the time. yeah But I was in that phase for so many years and I'm trying to actually wear the clothes in my closet. I should have been closet clean out and I feel like Pinterest is fun. Like in the morning if I know I have something that I want a cute outfit for, I'll literally look on outfits on Pinterest and find an outfit and then try to recreate it. Cute.

Speaker: Big Pinterest kick right now. Wait, you should do a TikTok of that. That'd be so cute. Of like, here's the outfit I got on Pinterest. This is how did with the clothes I have. Well, you know what's about my outfit right now for people watching videos? I'm sitting down, so you can't really tell. These jeans I thrifted for eight bucks. This top was $4 from Walmart.

Speaker: And it's like, you can dress cute yeah for cheap. And it's just like more of a challenge, but it's so fun. Yeah. So I feel like I've been loving like I'm trying to learn. love the little feature on the bottom. I know. Don't you guys love. The feature. love the little feature. Okay, the next thing I love. What's the right word for that? I don't know. The...

Speaker: I think future... Future feels like a tech word. I'm pretty sure i pulled up from a work video. Yeah, you did for sure. um i don't know. My brain isn't thinking about the word. No, a little... Embellishment?

Speaker: Embellishment could work. Okay, we'll go back to that. Okay, the next thing I love, I have stick straight hair, and I would literally sell my soul to have wavy hair. Like, I would do anything to have wavy hair, because I just like think wavy hair looks like so effortlessly cool, girl. Yeah. And...

Speaker: I found a way to make my hair wavy. The Crown Affair Moose. Yes. I put that in my hair and then I twist my hair and let it dry. and my hair looks like I just went to the beach. i You twist it like this versus scrunch it? I don't scrunch it. So I scrunch it a little bit and then I twist it and then I put it up here like polygamist braids almost. And then I let it dry and then it dries like for your shower. That's how I did my hair and my hair was just like perfectly wavy.

Speaker: So if you have straight hair and I have tried every single like sea salt spray, wavy cream, all the things. No. The Crown Affair Moose. I'll link it. It's so worth the money and i usually am not like a... I don't buy things. yeah My mom gave it to me and because I was like, oh it's like $38. I'm never going to buy that.

Speaker: And I probably would have never tried it, but she gave one to me because she wasn't using it. And now I will forever be buying it. And I don't even i never blow dried my hair. I can't tell you last time I did my hair. Okay, you sp brought this up at my shower and I, my sister had already gifted me it for Christmas. She gave me a kit. It was like, this is actually another great gift. Maybe we should start getting a gift guide together for Christmas. But it was the towel, the leaving conditioner, and the towel's amazing. I want to and the towel. I think it was like $100. So I'm like, it is probably a lot, but... She was very nice with my sister.

Speaker: And I realized had never used the mousse. I've only used it yet. I used it and I'm obsessed. Okay, see? I'm obsessed. So I did it so good. But I'm going to try the twist. Okay, try the twist. I'll send you a tutorial. Maybe I'll do tutorial. Okay, next thing is gardening. I've been in my gardening era. I'm obsessed. I can't stop. That's what I was doing this morning. I pulled out all my zinnias and put some of my vegetables in my zinnia garden. And I like moved some things around. And it's just like literally so cool that you can literally grow food. Yeah, it is so cool. And it feels like...

Speaker: very fulfilling it feels like i'm romanticizing my backyard yeah and i love it okay my next thing is having less clothes i went and got rid of probably more than half of my clothes and now it's more fun to get dressed you got to share about kevin being and like oh yeah so i was giving my clothes to the neighbors because i have some of my best friends like in our neighborhood and they're like pregnant and postpartum right now so like you don't want to shop yeah and it's like do you guys want to go through my clothes? And there's like good stuff in there. There's like Viore and like, yeah, good, at like Lululemon, good stuff. And he's like, i literally was walking around the neighborhood seeing just a bunch of yous wearing all your year clothes and your outfits. And I'm like, I know. And then sustainability, but having less clothes. Yeah. Once like, I feel like now that I'm like,

Speaker: I'm not postpartum anymore. And so, like, I actually am, like, the size that I'm hoping to stay. i feel like I could, like, go through everything. And I tried every single piece on. And I was like, if this doesn't make me feel good, I'm getting rid of it. Or if I'm not going wear it as a mom. Like, I have three Saison sweaters. I will never wear them. Yeah. Because they're itchy.

Speaker: They're itchy. Sorry, Saison. And that you have to, like, hand wash or dry clean them. yeah And I'm never going to do that. So, i got rid of those. Okay. And then my last thing is um Okay. I'll need to do that once I'm not postpartum. Literally wait like a year. I can't even look at my stuff because I'm like, I don't even know.

Speaker: Like it just is painful. don't it. have like five outfits on repeat and that's all have. I literally like waited until was nine months to postpartum. I just did it. And now it feels like fun and good to get dressed. Well, then you actually know what you need for like timeless staples now. Well, I have very few things now. Like I have like four pairs of jeans. Yeah. And I'm like, okay, I know um i know what I'm missing now. Exactly. um Okay. And then the last thing, and actually you funded this, was the, I don't even know how to say it. Edom, Edi,

Speaker: E-A-D-E-M. Lip Softening Balm. Okay. I am a lip gloss lipstick. No, I thought I did. Lip product girly. You will not find me without a product on my lip. And this... So I've tried every single lip product.

Speaker: This one by far is my favorite. Okay, we need to link this because I haven't even tried it. Okay, you need to try it. And you got me that. How did you... She got me support gift card. How did you... um hear about it. TikTok. The TikTok girlies, if they know anything, TikTok girlies know makeup.

Speaker: Yeah, if you're looking for a meal, I prefer Instagram, like meal inspiration, but anything like reviews, like for clothes, makeup, any of that stuff, TikTok for sure, all the way. Yep. And they're honest. Okay, anyways, you guys, we are so excited to be back. Prepare to be sick of us because...

Speaker: We are ready to really run with this podcast. I feel like taking a break actually showed us that people wanted us and needed us because like we had so many people reach out and be like, when are you recording or how you haven't recorded in a while? Yeah. Not so many people, but I feel like even just like the few people, is like, okay, there's a place for us. We got this. We need to make it a priority. yeah And really it is fulfilling for us. Yeah. We're excited.

Speaker: We're open to like all like ideas of what you want us to cover on the podcast. who We put a message out there the other day, but I think some things we're gonna cover is like what I wish I would have known as a first time mom. We're gonna talk about like some like fall refresh probably in the or like I guess it'll be winter probably the time we get to that. But we have a list of things, but send us anything you want us to cover. But also, we have kids between us now. I feel like the knowledge that we can provide, like we are obviously still learning and don't know everything, but like we have eight kids. Yeah. We have a full-ass preschool between the two of us. So, I don't know. Get ready for our unsolicited advice. You never saw it coming. You never saw it coming. And we'll talk to you guys next time. Okay, bye.
