A Fake PhD, a Military Purge and an HOA Gone Too Far | Ep 330

Three stories, one question underneath all of them: who actually gets to decide the rules, and who has to live inside them.

It starts with a summer record and the argument that never dies. Does a song about spending money damage how Black people are seen, or is that just respectability politics asking the wrong people to carry the weight? Bruce and Jay take opposite ends of it and neither one gives ground easily.

From there it turns to a woman with a very visible platform, a very public title, and a doctorate nobody can seem to locate. The school closed years ago. The paperwork still exists. So why has nobody seen it?

Then it goes to the Pentagon, where the fight over who belongs in uniform is being waged through promotion boards, grooming standards, memorial pages, and quiet edits to the record of who fought for this country. Bruce lays out the receipts. Jay names what it actually is.

And it closes in a subdivision in Florida, where a woman who moved in to care for her dying father is now being sued by the people she lives next to, and every one of her neighbors is helping pay for it.

The Sibling Happy Hour Segment

00:00:47
Speaker
On today's episode, it's The Sibling Happy Hour. I'm here with my sis, J. Andrea. We're going to be talking about fake credentials, politics inside the military, and an HOA fight that raises a bigger question.

Controversial Song Discussion

00:00:59
Speaker
But that's enough of the intro. Let's get to the show.
00:01:10
Speaker
What up, sis? What up, brother? I can't call it. I can't call it. Look, an interesting conversation has been popping up. Okay. So, we know the song, Spendat.
00:01:23
Speaker
Yes. That is taking the world by storm. It's the little bop of the summer. Yeah. Yes. Men and women just loving this song, but maybe it doesn't promote the greatest message.
00:01:39
Speaker
Yeah, yeah. Okay, I can see that. Anyway, song by Young Miami out the south the summer, yes. Yes, and it got attributed to India Irie, but she was like, I didn't say that. You know how the internet acts. But it's been called upon that maybe we should boycott the song based on the lyrics and the content of the song. Now, India Irie said, I didn't call for no boycott.
00:02:05
Speaker
Okay. But it's not a great representation of Black people in America.

Media's Influence on Perception

00:02:12
Speaker
and she was Essentially, she says, paraphrasing here, that people that don't interact with our culture will only see our culture through and what we present out there.
00:02:25
Speaker
That is how it's always been. oh Yes. But if we're promoting oh a negative aspect about ah our culture, oh then...
00:02:40
Speaker
People are going to perceive us as these things. Uh-huh. So tapping into those respectability politics. Got it yeah Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, with Indy Irie said, I don't know that she's necessarily wrong in what she's saying.
00:02:55
Speaker
but Listen, it's just a summer bop. Y'all doing too much. um it's Y'all are really, really doing too much. It's just a little summer bop. and And here's the thing.
00:03:06
Speaker
As far as us controlling our own image and media, like, we... try, right? But at the same time, the media, a lot of that is out of our control. And our portrayal is what our portrayal is in the media. And it's been that way since ah forever, always. So I just don't really think we should hang our hat on that or that be the hill we die on, how we're portrayed in the media. If people want to just assume the worst of us, then they're going to do that.
00:03:41
Speaker
regardless of what we say and do. I think there's nothing wrong with coming out with a little summer bop about scamming and getting money, bitches. Like, that's... It's just a little summer bop. Y'all are putting way too much... ah Y'all putting 20 on 10 on this. Like, nobody is like, oh, this must be exactly how all Black people are. Anybody who has that kind of mentality is already...
00:04:10
Speaker
in the frame of mind to misunderstand us anyway, if they think one song by Young Miami, One Summer, is, like, indicative of how all Black people are everywhere, like, knock it off. Like, please. I just... I just don't. I don't see it. And I get it, like, from Indie Irie's standpoint. You know, she... She had, like, very...
00:04:39
Speaker
positive, like, uplifting Black music, right? You know, talking about I'm Not My Hair and all of these things. So I get that, like, from her perspective, and

Generational Media Consumption

00:04:51
Speaker
she's not wrong, music does have power.
00:04:53
Speaker
Media, entertainment, all of these things do have power. But if you're gonna scam, you're gonna scam. A song ain't really gonna do that. do too much to you know what I'm saying to influence you yeah yeah especially a song like you gotta think about it the song is not by a scammer she works really hard and makes music and tours and like so I mean it's just kind of like okay she just just let's let's relax alright NAACP like let's cool it
00:05:29
Speaker
i don't think it was NAACP that did this. But you know how they always like overreact, in my opinion, sometimes. like Everything is like a slight against Black people. But I'm just like, y'all, it's just a... Come on now. It's just a summer bop. Let's relax.
00:05:44
Speaker
I hear everything that you're saying. i do believe that their media, whether it be music and entertainment, entertainment can influence you. Yeah, sure. instance...
00:05:57
Speaker
The crack epidemic was fueled by, of course, a a cheaper form of cocaine that is accessible in the streets that can't be sold, but also because of Scarface. Like, so many people watched that movie Scarface during that time was like, I'm going out to sell drugs because I want to be like Scarface. Despite the fact that they weren't paying attention to the end, the movie yeah does not end well.

Fake Credentials: Cheyenne Bryant

00:06:23
Speaker
No, it doesn't. all for Antonio Montana. And I'm a... I'm gonna be, I don't know. It's drug dealing. I'm talking about the... Oh, getting into the ideals that Killmonger said. Yeah, being the seller. Like, Scarface did influence a generation to go out there and go get money. So there can be negative influences. These things can all exist. We can be doctors. But I'm just saying that there can be negative influence. And look at what our culture does to other cultures. We can be slowly. We can also be getting money. Look at Japan. was going to say a better analogy. We're going to bring up Ryan Coogler is Fruitvale Station. Doing something to their hair so that the main character sees everything like that. We have an influence. And if they're thinking, oh, we out here scamming now, that might influence some other people to do that. We are all... We are out here scamming now.
00:07:19
Speaker
Like, here's the thing. All of us are because inflation and rent is too damn high and all of us out here scamming now. Like, here's the thing. I've been playing it on repeat. early rap and hip-hop because it was accurate depiction of what life was like in the hood. a little twirl when they talk about respectability politics. Let's talk about something uplifted. Yeah, okay, that's fine. We can absolutely do that, and I'm 100% for that. But for the people that's in the hood that are living that life, because we're not the sole people listening that.
00:07:58
Speaker
Or like seeing themselves represented in media by people who understand where you're coming from because they're from there too. That's white now. And they're telling your story. You're getting some visibility because your story is being told by an artist that has lived the same kind life. anyway, she is not Black. John Singleton is gone. She still ain't Black.

HOA Legal Battle: Bethany Michael

00:08:19
Speaker
She ain't Black. Anyway, introduced her to Lil Wayne in Drake. I'm gonna make a movie that's timeless. loved it. It would rap the songs and then skip over the word. hear what you're saying. I guess if you want those things, you can watch Tubi movies because there's a lot of them out there. Yeah, there's a lot. No, no, no. You should be skipping over the word, but at the same time, it's obvious that you're skipping over the word. He still presents the both sides. But you know the word is there. If I wasn't here, would you say she wouldn't? But there are other white people who do because of the rap lyrics, right? No, they do because they're racist. And it doesn't really matter what we do. That's my whole point. Like, people who are determined to misunderstand us and to hate us because of who we are, it doesn't matter what we do. I mean, everything ain't gonna end up like American History X, right? Where we saving...
00:09:16
Speaker
people and turning them around in the end, right? We are dating ourselves today for an accident and a scar face. I had an interesting conversation with a friend of mine earlier today. And I've come to the conclusion, not all, but for some, some of these people who do these things where they can't see nuance,
00:09:40
Speaker
ah That they can't see how one thing is not the same, especially when it comes to Black people and white people. Right. And how they will lean into, well, I don't understand why Black people can say the N-word and I can't, even though it's pretty clear. Yeah, it's not that hard to figure out. But reading an article earlier today, half of the population, 54% of the American population reads either sixth grade level or below.
00:10:10
Speaker
ah Maybe we're giving people way more credit than they actually deserve. or We say, oh, they're just being racist. Not to say that they're not. Yeah. we say that That they understand and they're deciding that they don't want that they don't care. There is absolutely that. But some people just aren't smart enough to understand how wrong that they actually are. And even if you do explain it to them, their intellect isn't high enough to comprehend what you're explaining to them because they read at a sixth grade level.
00:10:42
Speaker
Yeah, here's the thing. i still don't care about that. Like, I think I think and if you live in America and

Military Policies: Pete Hegseth's Stances

00:10:53
Speaker
you're white, you know you're not supposed to say the N-word. Like, it's just not... I just feel like... think I think if you're in our generation, i think this younger generation, real i think when I say younger, Gen Alpha specifically, those Gen Alphas that are about to come up in the middle school and high school, h and and younger Gen Z, I think there might there might be a generational...
00:11:17
Speaker
difference Because when we were coming up, it's not like that word was used as much as it is now because it wasn't in pop culture as much as it is now. When we were coming up in the ninety s in our music, it was, but our music in the 90s was still almost kind of exclusive.
00:11:39
Speaker
Rap and hip-hop really did not become mainstream or commercial until the early 2000s. And it really was kind of like Eminem that really blew it commercial. It was a white guy. But like god people like Jay-Z and DMX, they were selling, but they weren't main, mainstream. You know what I mean? don't know. A lot of our movies and everything like that, like when you listen to New Jack City, I don't think there's one N-word in that entire movie.
00:12:10
Speaker
Boys in the Hood, it might be two. Like, it's it wasn't used as much as it is is now, especially, like, when Dave Chappelle was on Comedy Central and he used it with Impunity. Like, that was later. That was 2004, 2005, 2006. That was not on TV like that when we were growing up. So I think but we have a different way of looking at it than the generation behind us.
00:12:35
Speaker
Just out here thinking. I don't know. Yeah, I don't know. I know, you know, I got nieces and nephews and godchildren at that age, and they'll tag you in the mouth if you call them out their name. That's their parents teaching them that, though. Yeah. That's what it's always been. Yeah. What I'm trying is not them, but the other people who aren't Black, that their parents aren't teaching them or...
00:13:05
Speaker
explaining to them how and they're not supposed to be using this word. Yeah, because they're probably racist. Or they think that they don't need have to talk. Or it just doesn't affect. Yeah. I mean, if they don't use it. And there's like two black people and you don't. Or if they don't use it. Right. Yeah. They're like, why would my kid ever use that word? They never heard it around the house. Once again, not having that nuance to understand. They're outside. Yeah. when you're outside, you learn some things.
00:13:35
Speaker
Yeah. That's where i learned all my cuss words. It wasn't at the home, even though i learned a lot. It was outside that I learned all the majority of my cuss words, especially my favorite one. Yeah. I make a lot of mine up.
00:13:47
Speaker
But I don't know. i think I think the song is speaking to a particular audience, and it's kind of like,
00:14:00
Speaker
FUBU if you're not that audience it's not for you like obviously and that that's ben ne and that is all over social media and now it's not just speaking to just one audience no but I'm saying like the audience for spin that is not the same audience so this is Indy I read like it's not yes you know what I'm saying it's not the same audience I listen to Indy I read and spin it i But you tell them general, if not the outlet. Yeah, in general. Like, in general. Like, I feel like it's it's not the same audience. It doesn't have also the same purpose. Like, Young Miami is not making uplifting music. She's making club music. Mm-hmm. Strip club music, be specific. Strip club music. She's making party music. And that's what works for her. And that's what sells. And she's making her money. And... She's probably going to spend that at at the end at at the end of the day. so She says she need a guy to make at least 10 figures. I don't know she realizes how much 10 figures is.
00:15:03
Speaker
But ain't too many people out there making 10 figures. There's not. There's not. But I mean, I'm all for like being a little bit delusional and a little bit aspirational. like Or like your aspirations being a little delusional. Like, you know, you shoot for the moon, you land among the stars if you miss. So that's...
00:15:22
Speaker
No, that's not how that works. yeah Don't shoot for the moon and land among the stars. If you missed. No, that's not how that works. The moon is closer than the next star, which is the sun. It's a euphemism. And it's stupid and I hate it because it doesn't make any sense.
00:15:42
Speaker
Yeah. ah Yes, we all... That's like when Michael Jordan said, the ceiling is the roof, okay? Yeah. We actually don't all know that stars are actually... We're seeing light from light years away. We actually don't all know that. But that it's not that's not relevant to what I'm saying.
00:16:02
Speaker
my I'm saying is she's aiming for 10 figures. If you miss, you still probably end up in a pretty decent place. So, like, that's ah that's fine. I want to wrap up this conversation because I want get to something else real quick before we get out of this segment. You know who Cheyenne Bryant is, right?
00:16:22
Speaker
No. Okay, Cheyenne Bryant is a clinical psychologist. Okay. Or has, as she says it, clinical psychologist, who has been under fire for at least six months to a year, saying that she has a doctorate, a PhD, but hasn't really presented the PhD.
00:16:48
Speaker
Oh, right. Okay. So people been calling her like basically a liar that she's not a doctor because she is claiming being a doctor loud and proud. And So people are calling her out being like, you're not a doctor. Like, show the proof that you're doctor. Just show this diploma. And then somehow her school that she got her doctorate in closed down and she couldn't get her doctorate. And I talked to a couple of people that have PhDs and they're like, it's...
00:17:16
Speaker
this It's, you have a place to get it. Plus, if you got your PhD, then than your thesis or whatever it is to get your PhD is like a database that you could always access so you she could always present it. Well, yes yesterday she decided to troll. You know how that Netflix little thing is going on social media? Yeah, sit down for a Netflix documentary. The music's playing. I'm about to do one and it's going to be the Netflix documentary where you do a podcast with your sibling but you do all the work. but anyway But anyway, she did one, and it's about her getting her doctorate and everybody else not believing it. And the internet has been flaming her ass out. Yeah. i just and And then my question was, what was she trolling?
00:18:03
Speaker
to be funny because it's in question or was she actually bringing this robe out to prove that she had her doctorate because everybody found that particular robe and set up on Amazon. Other people that had the PhDs was like, that's not the right color for the doctor that you say that you have.

Ethical Implications of HOA Restrictions

00:18:19
Speaker
And it was just funny to me because at this point,
00:18:24
Speaker
Just come clean? Because what she actually does for a living, she's a counselor, but she doesn't have to have her doctorate. Yeah, she's like a life coach. like yeah that's Yeah, she could just come clean. Well, she also does work with, clinical work with parents and children and things of that nature. But, yeah, I mean... But you can be a licensed clinical social worker and do that. Yeah. Like, that...
00:18:48
Speaker
Yeah, I mean... But now she's dug so into the lie. Yeah, so she don't have no point but to keep keep lying. Like, she don't have no point but to keep lying. Like, at this point, you're going to lose all credibility.
00:19:03
Speaker
She has! coming Well, ah the the fact of the matter is, she really didn't... I don't know that... Because I don't know this person. i don't know that she had a that much credibility to begin with, but, like... No, she's been all over the place. She's been on the Breakfast Club. She's been on Joe Budden Podcast. Breakfast Club don't mean that you got you credible. To speak about her work. To speak about her work.
00:19:26
Speaker
Again, I said what I said. So so she claims to hold a Ph.D. in counseling psychology from Argosy University, a for-profit institution that permanently shut down 2019.
00:19:42
Speaker
Critics have questioned the legitimacy of this claim, so she's refused to produce physical proof or transcripts stating her records were wiped out following the school's closure. That's actually, yeah, you're right, not true. Because there are, the your transcripts are typically housed in like,
00:20:04
Speaker
under another company, like, I know that one of the companies, you, like, you order your transcripts, like, not from the school. Like, there's, like, a place, like, it's called Parchment that is, like... Stores all your transcripts. Stores your transcripts. National Student Clearinghouse.
00:20:23
Speaker
also stores transcripts. So it's like there are no, no, you can definitely prove it. Just show us the degree. Like, honestly, like just you got it because that's what happens when you graduate.
00:20:38
Speaker
They'll send it to you in the mail. So just show us that. I have to go to mom's house to get my degrees because I think that's where my degrees are. I don't have them.
00:20:50
Speaker
I understand like your high school or undergraduate, but I know where my master's degree is. And I would. That's because you literally just got it six months ago. But I would for damn sure know where my PhD degree is. Oh, do it look. After all of that work, writing that dissertation, defending it, all of the things you have to do in order to get your doctorate.
00:21:11
Speaker
you're damn skippy I know where it is not damn skippy okay yeah you're damn skippy so it's not that difficult to prove you went to school somewhere and to prove that you graduated at all and so the refusal to do so is like okay well that tells us everything that we need to know but I think Best course of action, don't so talk about it no more. You definitely shouldn't have been trolling people with something you got off Amazon. Like, you definitely, and you don't have, and it's true, the the hood, the cord colors, like, they mean specific things. It's not just random. Mine was gold because I was in the school of business. So, like, it's it means things. So you can't just buy it off Amazon be like, see?
00:22:00
Speaker
And I'm like, okay, none of that.
00:22:04
Speaker
Girl. Right? And we talking about, we talking about spend that? Right. Like, I mean, that was the reason why brought these two stories together. This is what we should be talking about. Producing, ladies and gentlemen. Producing.
00:22:19
Speaker
Yeah, you talking about spend that. Don't worry about that woman getting her money legitimately. Worry about this scam. The real scam. on The real scammers.
00:22:31
Speaker
And she's spending that because she got that money Yeah, like, come on, girl. Speaking of scammers and not being qualified, we're going to get into Pete Hegseth.
00:22:51
Speaker
For those of y'all that don't know, Pete Hegseth is the Secretary of Defense, or as he likes to call it, the Secretary of War. Right, because... Right.
00:23:03
Speaker
It means two different things. Like, not just the fact that defense and war are two different words with different meanings, but, like, ah but the actual, like, intrinsic meaning. It means different things. Like, being Secretary of War is very aggressive,

Military Policy Changes and Diversity

00:23:22
Speaker
number one, and it's more about being proactively aggressive, whereas defense is like, we're not starting nothing.
00:23:33
Speaker
but we gonna finish it up. And that's fine. the his His version is like, nope, we go and we start it. That's how it feels to me.
00:23:43
Speaker
He's had a war on DEI.
00:23:47
Speaker
Mm-hmm. Since he was appointed ah by a 50-50 vote that, you know, J.D. Vance had to do a tiebreaker. But his pre-existing position on the record has not been subtle. In this 2024 book, he wrote that DEI amplifies differences, creates grievances, and that the...
00:24:04
Speaker
The acronym should be D-I-E or I-E-D. It will kill our military worse than any I-E-D ever could. That's a direct quote from his book. The book opens up with a complaint about affirmative action promotions and the line, we will not stop until trans lesbian black females run everything.
00:24:25
Speaker
Because I've said it before. Trans lesbian black female. Wow. I've said it before. i will say it again. the thing they fear the most is the black woman, especially a black woman who yeah you label as trans because they just have this strange obsession with obsession with trans people. And it's is very harmful, of course, to the community. Yeah. But the fact that you throw a lesbian in there, it's like, oh, now this is Black women that don't need no man. They're even more threatening. Yeah, that's the biggest, that is they see the biggest threat is Black women.
00:25:06
Speaker
He also fired Joint Chiefs Chairman General C.Q. Brown, the second African American to hold a job, after questioning in that same book that he wrote whether Brown got the job on merit or on race. He also fired Admiral Lisa Franchitti,
00:25:24
Speaker
the first woman to lead the Navy. No explanation was given in either in either case. So he also gave a Quantico speech that was funny.
00:25:35
Speaker
The Quantico speech happened, and this was also the same time where I got trapped in Quantico right after that. where he summoned roughly 800 generals and admirals from around the world on about on about a week's notice. He announced 10 directives and said no more identity mumps, DEI offices, or dudes in dresses. No more client change worship. He later ordered all service members to watch or read the speech as mandatory warrior ethos tasking.
00:26:04
Speaker
So... What are they doing? They are implementing everything to strip away what they deem is DEI and bring about meritocracy. That never existed.
00:26:18
Speaker
Yes. Meanwhile, he's not qualified to hold this position in any shape or form. Yeah. Here's the thing about, like, white mediocrity, right? Like, it doesn't want to compete.
00:26:34
Speaker
It doesn't want a level playing field. It wants an uneven playing field because it yeah knows it's mediocre. Well, ah I will say that it wants an unequal playing field even amongst each other.
00:26:50
Speaker
They're always... They. These particular people who subscribe to this form of thinking are always, they'll say, getting a leg up. What it is is it's an underhanded tactic because you can't compete straight up. That's yes that's essentially what it is. and And they want to punish everybody else because...
00:27:09
Speaker
Yeah, it's harder to compete with everybody. So yeah they've done name changes on Army bases. They've done name changes on ships or at least proposed the name changes. Some of them is not so easy to do. yeah They've done a digital purge.
00:27:27
Speaker
So the Arlington National Cemetery stripped from its website histories highlighting Black, Hispanic, and women veterans. So when they talk about DEI, what they're essentially saying is, just white men.
00:27:40
Speaker
Just white men only. White men only. Because... and And still, even then, certain white men, certain white men of a certain economic class, a certain, like, political or social standing, like, it it's still not even all y'all.
00:27:58
Speaker
So somebody... I was talking to somebody earlier today, and they were telling me a story about somebody, a family member that married... that got married. And they were describing the family of the family member that married. So the family member's wife's family, right?
00:28:18
Speaker
Mm-hmm. And they was like, yo have you ever, first of all, they said it wrong. You lost me. Start again. Okay. I'm going to forget the fake names. That's the reason why I never do it. All right. right James gets married to Lisa. Mm-hmm.
00:28:33
Speaker
So James's cousin is telling me a story about James marrying Lisa and talking about Lisa's family. Okay. Okay. And then he asked me, Hey, have you ever, first of all, he messed up the the letters. He said, have you ever heard of PWC?
00:28:51
Speaker
I said, PWC? The pro wrestling community? I don't. PWC? PricewaterhouseCooper? Yeah. I was like, what what are you talking about? was like, when you know a certain group of people, i was like, do you mean PWT?
00:29:04
Speaker
and Oh, yeah, that's right. That's right. That's what it is. I was like, first of all, you critique it somebody else. You don't even get the acronym right. Yeah, you don't even know what you're talking about. And I was like, I hate that term. I've always hated that term. I once had a girlfriend who used to say that term, nobody is is freaking trash.
00:29:19
Speaker
but Right. The point that they were trying to make is even amongst themselves, they point at those people. And it's always been that way since the beginning of time. that' Not the beginning time. Since the foundation of of this country. That's the reason why I said my ex-wife was white kind of now. Because when Italians came over, right they were them.
00:29:39
Speaker
yeah When Irish came over, they were them. But that was a long-ass time ago. like It was a long time ago, but but don't get it twisted. if If there was any way for the Christian white male that can trace his ancestry back to, I don't know.
00:29:59
Speaker
Charlemagne, who knows? Whatever. They would exclude out. Yeah. Everybody else, the French, the Irish, they would exclude them out to say, you're not real American.
00:30:09
Speaker
So the one of the major things, is the reason why I'm bringing this up, is because he's blocked a lot of promotions, right? yes He's blocked two Black and two female Army colonels from promotion to one-star general. The Washington Post reported that that he pressed Army Secretary Dan Driscoll for months to remove the names and was reportedly refused, then struck them down himself. an officer was reportedly removed from writing a paper years earlier explaining why African-American soldiers tend to choose support ah jobs over frontline combat positions. He's blocked nine Navy officers, three of them women, two of them Black men, resulting in 22 prospective one-star admirals. none None of them were women, right? so Of course. So he's not promoting, he's stopping promotions for women
00:31:02
Speaker
Black, brown, and women. h And promoting everybody else, at least on this idea of merit. Meanwhile, there are 21% of active duty women in the Navy, but only seven active duty admirals. So it's not about merit, right? Because women are 21%, they represent a higher number of admirals based merit.
00:31:28
Speaker
they should represent a higher number of admirals based on merit Yeah. Unless you subscribe to this toxic masculinity patriarchy manosphere type of situation where women just aren't good enough because he has openly stated that he is trying to get women out of combat positions, period.
00:31:46
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. but this is But this is not unusual, right? Like that disparity. Because think about it, okay?
00:31:56
Speaker
Women make up 51% of the population in the United States. True that. that. We are the majority. Mm-hmm. We hold 26% of the seats in the U.S. Senate.
00:32:10
Speaker
Mm-hmm. Yeah. That don't make no sense. That's 26 seats, by the way, ladies and gentlemen. Yes, 26 seats. And you think, how many are in ah how many are CEOs of of Fortune 500 companies? 11%.
00:32:28
Speaker
I'll go you one better. When you talk about those seats in the Senate, oh break that down between Republican and Democrat. It is overwhelmingly Democratic senators. senators 16 Democrat, 10 Republican.
00:32:45
Speaker
Oh, it's not I guess that's not overwhelming. No. You got some people that be on the fence, but but okay, that's not overwhelming. I think it was House of Representatives that was overwhelming. Anyway, but i'm not i'm not off I'm not off Pete's neck yet.
00:33:02
Speaker
So introduced the shaving rule. Have you heard about the shaving rule? I have not. Okay, so they there is a condition that affects Black men. more than anybody else.
00:33:15
Speaker
I think the acronym is PMF, but basically it's razor bumps, right? yeah Because our hair curls, it will curl back into sin and cause razor bumps. There used to be a, me they they had a medical waiver that allowed servicemen to have short beards that Because if they shaved all the way to the skin, they would create, they would get razor bumps. And razor bumps are extremely painful. when I rarely get them because I got that.
00:33:47
Speaker
And my hair don't curl. ah just i got I got kind of like, yeah, I guess or whatever. Pseudo folliculitis barbe, PFB. PFB.
00:34:00
Speaker
But when I do get, When I do have ingrown hairs, that thing is painful. I remember our mom

Societal Rules and Norm Disadvantages

00:34:09
Speaker
leaning over our father, picking the ingrown hairs out of the neck with a needle and tweezers. It is a painful, painful thing. So there used to be a waiver.
00:34:19
Speaker
Now they're saying, now we're going to get rid of that waiver and you're going to clear this up. And if you can't clear it up, you're going out of the armed forces. That makes no sense. That's for that are...
00:34:31
Speaker
people that are Black people are. Black men are. Yeah. Those people are curly air. Those black people. You do know about Pete Hegs if in this TRT thing though, right?
00:34:43
Speaker
hu No. Okay. So check this out. yes yeah Because cause I'm on his neck. They are going to start to do mandatory testing for men, servicemen that are over the age of 30 testing their testosterone levels.
00:34:59
Speaker
If they have low T, low testosterone, they're going pay for them and allow them to do testosterone replacement therapy. ah Meanwhile, they have tried to bar transgender people from the armed forces yeah because they said it would be too difficult to do hormonemon therapy hormone therapy.
00:35:25
Speaker
a What is testosterone replacement therapy?
00:35:32
Speaker
essentially a hormone therapy. Yes. So that's... But that's not even a kicker. That's not even a kicker. What they thought they were doing with these DEI programs, anti-DEI programs, was basically trying to...
00:35:51
Speaker
Boost up white men. Push everybody down. But more specifically, they weren't really, really worried about women because women only make up a certain percentage of the armed forces. They were just really trying to make sure that black and brown people wouldn't come up, right? Yes, yes. But here's also what they did.
00:36:13
Speaker
For nearly three decades, lawmakers, military leaders, and veterans gathered... at the Women and Military Service for American Memorial near the Arlington Cemetery.
00:36:27
Speaker
The Bipartisan Women's Caucus canceled its 28th annual celebration because of this DEI thing. So there was a yearly thing right outside the Arlington Cemetery where they would celebrate the women veterans And because of these DEI and anti-DEI enforcements, yeah now they are not only changing names, not only doing these racist um shaving things, not only saying, oh, men can use TRT. We're going to give you something to improve your body. But women...
00:37:13
Speaker
And transgender people, not only can you not have abortions, but you can't have your hormone therapy if you're transgender. oh And we are going to celebrate Veterans Day and Memorial Day and the 4th of July, right?
00:37:29
Speaker
Yes. But specifically, we're never going to celebrate the Black people, the brown people, and the women who have fought for this country. Yeah.
00:37:41
Speaker
Hey, it's what racism looks like, you guys. Like actual racism, right? Because it's affecting hiring, promotions, access to healthcare, access in general, right?
00:37:54
Speaker
So that's what racism is. It's not just being prejudiced. It's then also actively oppressing people with the denial of access to resources. So... it's It don't have nothing to do with DEI. It has a whole lot to do with very insecure, racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic men with very small penises.
00:38:25
Speaker
They got the titty. They got the titty. Yeah. who case y'all didn't get that, ladies and gentlemen, titty got a micropenis. Yeah. Who cannot compete if if given an equal playing field.
00:38:43
Speaker
Because their mediocrity. Pete Hegseth's medi... Just the name Pete. like then knock No, hold on, time out. We're not going... we knock he's so A full-grown man? What's he supposed to go by, Peter? Peter.

HOA Board Dynamics and Power Struggles

00:38:58
Speaker
peter ah But no, Pete Hegseth is... is like mediocrity in human form.
00:39:09
Speaker
Mm-hmm. he cannot compete on a level playing field so he's got to and now it's because of this administration and just because of the way things are in american society right now he can now openly just be discriminatory and there are no protections because the supreme court and everybody elses useless and and he can just actively b
00:39:42
Speaker
ah actively disenfranchise a large swath of people Here's the thing. When we stop signing up,
00:39:53
Speaker
who you going to send out there? They're sending them out there. They're not going send themselves out. They're not going to go themselves. No, they'll do they'll still be... Who do you think... Wait a minute.
00:40:05
Speaker
Who do you think they have always gotten to fight their wars? In the Civil War, did some of these rich plantation owners fight somebody and in the war?
00:40:18
Speaker
Some did. But you know who was really fighting in the war? Poor people. Yeah, the poor people. And that's who's always been kind of the people that have fought in our wars.
00:40:29
Speaker
Poor people. Yeah, yeah. But here's the thing. I think the armed forces right now, there's a large, a good percentage of the armed forces is people of color.
00:40:40
Speaker
There may not be as many women, but certainly people of color. And so when we stop signing up, will we say, to hell with that, then, and y'all gotta go.
00:40:57
Speaker
Who are they going to come for? They're going come for you poor folk. So just be prepared for that. Be prepared for that being the next thing, because that's the next thing.
00:41:09
Speaker
Keep on playing. It's going to come for you. Like, if you think being poor in America doesn't matter as long as you're white, you're insane. Because it definitely, definitely does.
00:41:25
Speaker
Well, I would say... You're next on the chopping block. They are. And I would say there hasn't been an American victory in a war yeah without Black people, without brown people.
00:41:38
Speaker
The country would not have kept running without women during World War II if they weren't the ones in the factories and doing the jobs because the men that were able to were off at war. These women that kept this country going.
00:41:54
Speaker
yeah So... To not honor women that literally fought and died for this country.
00:42:05
Speaker
Yeah. i The only way that you could consider that controversial, that they should be celebrated, is if you're just a hateful individual.
00:42:16
Speaker
Yeah. It almost kind of feels like their ah lives don't matter. Mm-hmm. kind of feels like that, doesn't it? That their lives, their sacrifice for our country and the freedoms that we enjoy and often take for granted, that their lives don't matter. That it's o okay for them to have been what? Cannon fodder, right?
00:42:42
Speaker
It's fine. That's fine because they don't matter. There's only this small percentage of the population that matters. yeah If you don't fall into that group,
00:42:53
Speaker
then your life is ah honestly its forfeit in this country.
00:43:00
Speaker
And so that's that's what we need to push back against. And that's the truth, Ruth.
00:43:09
Speaker
Jay, you've got an HOA.
00:43:16
Speaker
you got h o away I do not. Purposefully. I thought you do. No, absolutely not. Purposefully. I live in a historic community. Well, a historic community have to follow certain rules.
00:43:29
Speaker
Maybe it's not an HOA, but there are certain rules that you have to follow being in historic community. Yes. Do I? No.

Community Rules vs Individual Rights

00:43:40
Speaker
Okay. yeah Anyway, this was an interesting story, and I wanted to get your take on it. So Bethany Michael is 28 years old and lives in a 55 and over community in Jacksonville. Her father, a disabled veteran, bought the home in 2022, and then she moved in to care for him while he was undergoing dialysis.
00:43:59
Speaker
After he died in October 2023, Bethany inherited the house. But the HOA told her that she was too young to live there and sued her in is suing her to remove her. The story has gone national recently after the board approved $155,000 special assessment to cover its legal bills charging each homeow one thousand dollars The legal question is simple.
00:44:28
Speaker
Bethany owns a home, but does that mean that she has a right to live there? Her attorney says the community is nowhere near violating federal age restriction rules that could grant her and could grant her exception. I'm going to get into that in a minute.
00:44:42
Speaker
The HOA says failing to enforce a rule could ah would put its 55-year-old status at risk. The case is still pending. So, yeah. With these 55-year-old, 55 and up communities, which I cannot wait. I'm nine years away. I'm moving into one because it's going to be no grip. Be careful of the venereal diseases. Well, um I didn't say I was going to be with them. I'm just saying. Yeah, don't. Dave.
00:45:08
Speaker
Yeah, no. Okay. They out there. Yeah. um In order to maintain this status... And it varies from state to state. But generally speaking, it has to be 80-20. 80% of your residents in that community have to be 55 and up. there's some There's some leeway there with that 20%, right? Yeah.
00:45:30
Speaker
In this particular community, nobody aside from her is under 55. So they're at 100% of occupancy outside of her. So there she is an exception to the rule. she could They could allow her to live there. Matter of fact, the bylaws even state, yeah, there's some exceptions.
00:45:50
Speaker
But the people living there are fighting it, fighting it so hard because it's 155 units. Yeah. To the 55 homes in this community that they're charging each home $1,000 to sue her to get her out.
00:46:03
Speaker
Now. Mind you, it's a 55 plus community. A lot of the people are living off their retirement and savings and they're on fixed incomes. Mm-hmm. So she moved in to help take care of her father because it was during COVID and he couldn't live in his facility anymore because of COVID. So he bought this home and she came to live with him to help take care of him. He died. yes He dies in October, 2023.
00:46:32
Speaker
and But she's like, he left me the home. And they these people, when I saw the news story and it was just like, yeah, she's not 55. She needs to get out. And I'm like,
00:46:44
Speaker
What difference does it make? If she was out here throwing parties and making loud music, actually literally literally causing a disturbance like some 28-year-olds would do because they live in my building, then I can understand you being like, let's get this riffraff out of here, using yeah those words specifically.
00:47:01
Speaker
Riffraff. Yeah. But that's not the case. And your rules allow you up to 20% of the occupants to be able to live there, that would mean at least 30 homes yeah could have somebody under 55 living there. yeah And so I have so many questions for you.
00:47:24
Speaker
One, if you were in HOA, it was like, look, We're going to charge this $1,000 fee from you. You can either pay up front or you can add on an additional $100 to your monthly HOA fees.
00:47:39
Speaker
By the way, if anything is late, penalties and all that stuff apply. For a lawsuit that you would be like, man, don't really care if she lives here. Why is that going to cost me $1,000? Right. I'm paying to get rid of her? And that's just we just go into court. There's no guarantee that we're actually going win.
00:47:56
Speaker
Right. So, um no, I'm not going to... would be fighting the HOA. Yeah, I'd sue them. Then have to pay that $1,000. I'd sue them. There's two things in this world that I absolutely abhor.
00:48:09
Speaker
Okay. Squatters and HOA boards. Squatters and HOA boards, they... If you ever just Google, like, egregious HOA boards, the the amount of things that they tried to get away with...

Concluding Reflections on Policy Manipulation

00:48:25
Speaker
due to just ego and and a weirdly obsessive need to control, they can make life hell for people who paid for their, this is my home. I'm not,
00:48:42
Speaker
renting, i this is my home that I paid for and I get it, you know, you did the grass need to be cut and this, that, the third and okay, that's fine, but you charging me $1,000 for a lawsuit that none of us voted to ah move forward with, you decided to do that and now you're charging me and if I don't pay,
00:49:11
Speaker
There's penalties for a lawsuit that has nothing to do with me, and I also don't care about this. That is egregious. And it should be illegal, honestly. A lot of the things that they do, a lot of the things the HOA boards do or try to get away with,
00:49:32
Speaker
I'm like, why aren't there enough protections for homeowners against squatters, against HOA boards, against all of it? Why are there not enough protections for people who own their homes?
00:49:48
Speaker
Like, this is my house, damn it. well You know? Like... This is absolutely ridiculous. There is plenty of room for her to be there and not even get close to your 20% cushion.
00:50:05
Speaker
Not even close. Not even close. du Okay, so some they would argue that we're just enforcing the rules, that this isn't any type of cruelty, but we've got to enforce the rules in order to maintain our legitimate position here as a 55 and up community. But it's just like the lawyer said, you're not in risk of losing your 55% your 55 and up legal protection. So the next question becomes,
00:50:35
Speaker
Some people would try to do the loophole of getting in there, you know, buying a house because, hey, like look, you got your 20% yet. I can move in here. When there are certain protections given to people in these communities, does caregiving change the math at all that...
00:50:52
Speaker
people coming in. Yeah. Like she didn't buy, she inherited and she inherited because she was taking care of her father. And I would be interested in, I couldn't find this in my research to see how long after her father passed that they was like, all right, you got to leave.
00:51:07
Speaker
Because to me, there's a grieving process. He passed in 2023. We're in 2026 now, but that's just when it got national attention and it got national attention because she went on Tik TOK and said, yo,
00:51:18
Speaker
Three months later. Yeah. Was it three months later? Yeah. He died October 2023. About three months later, she got a violation notice. That's crazy to me. Mm-hmm.
00:51:30
Speaker
That's crazy to me. um So i was talking to so i was talking to a real estate agent and a real estate broker, and they were like, hey, this is the rules. The rules are the rules. And I was like, F the rules, right? Yeah. Because she's technically breaking but not breaking the rules. Yeah.
00:51:46
Speaker
I want to go to the humanity in this. Like, why would they try to kick her out of her home? and And the real estate person was like, she still owns it. She could rent it out or sell it. I was like, but that don't mean people, first of all, these are discounted prices for these homes anyway, right? So maybe that selling of the house don't put her on her feet. Right. Right.
00:52:11
Speaker
Maybe the renting of the house don't put her on her feet. And then, look, rent is too damn high out here in this street. Yeah. So you're saying I have to own a home and pay rent because I can't live in the home?
00:52:28
Speaker
Even though I'm not violating the housing for older persons? and that's not That's not what the act is called. That's what your notes say. Housing for Older Person Act? I don't think that's what the act is. If it is, okay. Leave your own notes. No, the notes are for you. Yes. The Fair Housing Act would normally make age-restricted neighborhoods illegal. Right. But the Housing for Older Persons Act carved out an exception. That's just hell of a name. But only if least 80% of occupied homes have someone 55 plus. That leaves a 20% cushion.
00:53:06
Speaker
cushion I mean, the name of the act is just crazy to me. Yeah, dumb. Person's act. Yeah, that's just crazy to me. If this was a Am I the Jerk. Yeah. That we do for YouTube exclusives.
00:53:18
Speaker
Let's first put it on the young lady 28. Is she the jerk for not moving out of her home even though she is not 55? No. no
00:53:31
Speaker
Okay. That's just straight up no, huh? just and No. Okay. The HOA board. Yeah. Are they the jerk for trying to kick her out of the home?
00:53:42
Speaker
Yes. Under the guise of they're just following the rules. She is not in violation of the law. Right. Technically. Well, that's the reason why they're suing. Yeah. I'd be hot. I'd be hot if he was like, we don't need $1,000 for you from you to get this person out of community. I don't care about him. Listen, I'm 83. Go ahead and send it to collections.
00:54:08
Speaker
Whatever. Jay. Go ahead. What do you want to tell the people before we get out of here? I'm 83. Go ahead and send it to collections. That's what you want to tell the people? Yeah. Go ahead. All right.
00:54:20
Speaker
That's literally what you want to tell the people when we get out here. I'm 83. Go ahead and send it to collections. don't care. I mean, you got to think about, you got to put stuff into perspective. Everything is all about perspective. Like you worried about something.
00:54:34
Speaker
No, I'm 83. Send it to collections. Okay, then. Before we end, I keep coming back to the same thing.
00:54:45
Speaker
All three of these stories are about people hiding behind something. A title, a policy, a rule, tradition, procedure. Something that sounds official enough that we are all supposed to stop asking questions.
00:55:00
Speaker
But we should ask questions because the title does not make you credible. A policy doesn't automatically make you fair. And the rule does not become right just because somebody has the power to enforce it.
00:55:12
Speaker
You can call it removing politics from the military. But if the result is Black history disappearing, women being passed over, and certain people being treated like their success must have come from DEI, then politics didn't disappear. It just changed directions.
00:55:29
Speaker
You can call hormone treatment a threat when it helps transgender troops and then call it readiness when it helps everybody else. But at that point, the issue was never really the treatment.
00:55:40
Speaker
It was who was receiving it. And you can say HOA is only protecting the integrity of a 55 and over community. But when one woman out of the 155 homes is being dragged through court after spending years caring for her dying father, you have to wonder what exactly is being protected.
00:55:59
Speaker
Because the community is not in danger. The rule is not in danger. The only thing being challenged is the board's authority to say no. But here's the uncomfortable part people don't want to talk about.
00:56:12
Speaker
Rules are rarely as neutral as we pretend they are. They bend for some people. They become sacred for others. Some people are given the benefit of a doubt. Other people are treated like their very presence is a threat to the system.
00:56:27
Speaker
And maybe that is the question we should be asking more often. Not just what does the rule say, but who wrote it, who gets to interpret it, and why does it always seem to become inflexible when the wrong person needs mercy?
00:56:42
Speaker
Because when protecting the rule matters more than protecting people, the rule may be doing exactly what it was designed to do. stay's the same Just not what we were told it was designed to do.
00:56:55
