Speaker: nor listening to Spill the Kibble, the podcast where I read your submitted stories and have real veterinarians react to them. If you are interested in sharing your clinic story, email us at spill at spill the kibble.com.

Speaker: Please note that this show is not suitable for all listeners. Listener discretion is advised. And with that, let's go to the show. Welcome to Spill the Kibble. I'm Cal.

Speaker: I am Dr. g And I'm Dr. M. And we're here to tell your clinic slash pet stories. But first, how was your day today? Today was a warm one, lady and gentleman. um it was a It was a warm, humid, sticky day. Another scorcher.

Speaker: It was the perfect day for the four air conditioning splitters we have in the back of the hospital to just stop working. Oh, no. They said, too hot, stayin' home.

Speaker: ah No, it's relatively new technology. I don't know, we had like three HVAC guys scratching their heads and trying to figure everything out and like turning breakers on and off. It remains to be fixed, but luckily it's mostly the break room, so say goodbye to any um draw like neutral, not-melty cookies and Snick Snacks back there. Oh no. You put them in a bowl, that's something. we true Cookie porridge? True, because the porridge. And you know I'm a fan. ah No, we we we moved what we could to the fridge, to the the sticky fridge we all share. but oh

Speaker: it was a little rough. Luckily, we don't do like boarding and stuff like that. So we didn't have any dogs back there. Otherwise, we would have had to move them around. Work fridges is a whole nother topic that I think we could have a whole episode on work fridges one day. We could.

Speaker: Honestly, there's a show on YouTube that I'm obsessed with where people send pictures of their bedrooms and ah everybody like looks at the details in the bedrooms and they try to figure out how old the person is and like where they're located and details about them. I can't remember, but I'll figure it out.

Speaker: I think it's interior um Interior Motives or something like that is what it's called. um I'll double check that, but I'm pretty sure it's really, really fun. But I feel like we could do that with like spaces and clinics. Like if we could, if once we run out of stories, maybe people can send us like sticky icky fridges and then like another zone. And we could be like, okay, I think these people are...

Speaker: Like you can guess the average age range, location, anyone's really rich, if anyone still lives at home, if someone is on an unconventional diet.

Speaker: Or hear me out, small animal, large animal, and then where they're located in the continental United States or other. It can be international. I'd love to see some international fridges. I'd love to get educated about it.

Speaker: ah If your clinic could be so we're already doing the fridge episode, if your clinics if your clinic could ah ask you to stock one thing in there for everyone, what would they want? That's a good thought. And they do. They ask questions, too. They'll be like, OK, then they even will have you be like, OK, take a picture of your fridge or like your workplace so they can help like figure out. They have you answer a question. It is called Interior Motives. I double checked. It's really fun. Everyone should watch it. It's thrilling.

Speaker: It sounds good. When I worked with our good buddy, Dr. D down in down in the panhandle, there was one universal thing that was always wanted and it was Lunchables.

Speaker: ah ah honestlyly Oh, they'd be loving their Lunchables. Also bagged pickles. Oh, okay. Little pickle pouches. That was fun. And Celsius. I really like Celsius.

Speaker: We're a big Dr. Pepper family at my hospital. It's Dr. Pepper on deck at all times. what I saw a wild Dr. Pepper at 7-Eleven today. It was... Wild? In the wild?

Speaker: Yeah, it was out control. A feral Dr. Pepper. Oh, I don't remember. It was crazy. It got away. And that's why instead, they didn't have a zero version of it, so that's why I went with the Sprite tea.

Speaker: Uh-huh. As recommended by Dr. M. It is creamy coconut Dr. Pepper. It isn't a zero, but I did not have that available. I will be trying creamy coconut. Dr. Pepper zero soon.

Speaker: You know, the Mormon shows have become very popular and people in the rest of the United States have found out about dirty sodas. ah la la la la la What is it called? and The place in Utah that they all go? The chain.

Speaker: The chain that they go. I want to call it like slurp, but it's definitely not that. Slurm. Slurm.

Speaker: worm ah Swig. Swig. That's what it's called. Swig. This like a local. this is a It's like only beer. Watering hole, malt shop.

Speaker: It's dirty sodas. It's just dirty sodas. Okay, so they have something called the Dragon Dew. It's Mountain Dew, Lemonade, Dragon Fruit, Raspberry Puree, Vanilla Cream, and Frozen Dragon Fruit.

Speaker: It sounds dope. I think it all sounds dope and we need it. Yeah. Every insert big city here needs their own swig and I'm going to start that campaign. Well, what else happened today? Yeah. Anybody have any good stories? you sweating today? did you have a sweaty, sweaty day today? I don't know if I griped about it last time, but yeah, the place i did relief today, i had a couple surgeries and...

Speaker: Their air conditioning unit is a wall unit located in the operating room. Oh, yes. You did tell us this. We're not allowed to turn it on until after surgery. Commenced the swap.

Speaker: Yep. yeah Yep. Go full track. I did have, I had a mast cell tumor removal, sub-Q, low grade. Thank goodness. But it was on the caudal aspect of a dog's front limb, ah like caudal antabrachium.

Speaker: What is that? Which part? Below the elbow. Below the elbow. On the back part. Yes. Front leg below the elbow. Betwixt elbow and wrist and on the back part that faces the buttocks of the dog. Yes.

Speaker: Okay. that That was actually very helpful. Thank you. Thank you. Yes. Thank you, doctor. Uh, but so there's not a lot of extra tissue there, which meant closure was bound to be a little bit tricky trying to get some margins on it. So, um I believe I got the whole guy. We'll find out after histopath, but, uh, I checked in with our other good friend, surgeon, Dr. G and we, um, he suggested something for tension. and he sent me the idea about a bolster bandage. Have you ever heard of a bolster bandage?

Speaker: No, You know I have never heard of this. And I was talking and i was definitely so i was asking you. I know you were. um I'm sorry, Dr. M, have you? ah No, I have not. I do a mesh technique or like the little side moon situation if I'm doing some tension relief, but I have not heard of Side moon? Oh, like where you're making some incisions to? Mm-hmm. Okay, and then you banish the whole guy up? Mm-hmm.

Speaker: So this bolster was basically, it was basically like a tie over. Like I placed my stay sutures along either aspect, um rolled up a nice like fatty big cigar sized wad of gauze. Of course. um And then laid it along like a cylinder and then weaved.

Speaker: wove weaved Wivin? Wivin? Probably McWivin. Is it dragon or a wivin? I wivved my amuletabe across the whole thing. Okay.

Speaker: um And that was it. Yeah? And the idea is it's going to put pressure on those stay sutures, and so it's going to basically reduce tension along your incision because it's bearing a lot of that brunt, and then you have that big wad of gauze, kind of like people were putting cut-up IV lines in ears and all that kind of thing. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker: So we'll see you in a week. It's like a gauze splint that you so that you sewed over. It was like it like a ah cylinder of gauze that I placed on top of the incision. And ah and it was there to take, kind of distribute pressure off of these stay sutures, like little little circles or loops on either side of it.

Speaker: So instead of putting pressure on the incision in the middle, it's pulling the outside of that incision closer to each other to remove tension on the inside. got check out Gotcha, gotcha, gotcha.

Speaker: um Interesting. Yeah. So we'll see in a week when it comes back for its recheck and I'm there. How that goes. so If you if you have to lace it again, can you do it like the cool way that people did in the 90s where instead of doing crisscross applesauce with the laces, they kind of like Jimmy rigged it to be like.

Speaker: Well, i'm go to but I'm going to put the number 23 in it next time. OK, maybe a lightning bolt. Yeah, I just think you need to get cool with it. A little cat's cradle something.

Speaker: our cat cradle so much when we I know where cat's cradle is. Exactly. with the la Is the lanyard game? yeah The lanyard game. Oh shoot, did my accent come out?

Speaker: It's just the cat's cradle game. Yeah. It's a cat's cradle string. Yeah, it's string. Cat's cradle string. It's a big rainbow loop of string. Boy, if if this was- has to be a certain length.

Speaker: If this was a visual media, we would we'd make a lot more sense to people. Look these guys. There's a lot of hand stuff going on over here, so we know what we're doing. Repeat to my main the cat's cradle. Go to summer camp. You'll figure it out. Yeah, buy an All-American Girl Scout book or whatever.

Speaker: Get an All-American Girl Scout doll cookbook or something. Something. God. Go to Books a Million, figure it out. I feel like I had a book called Klutz. Like a Klutz book was like the brand.

Speaker: Now, what's other than ah a silly person who falls a lot, what's a Klutz? The brand of book, it was an owl. They had a book, they had a cat's cradle.

Speaker: Got it, got it. Very cool. How to braid your hair. Was that the Halloween makeup one, the face painting one? Klutz. Got it. Klutz, shout out. Possible sponsor. They took the word back and they were like, no, a klutz is a crafty person. I mean, yeah.

Speaker: Often, i would argue yes. The Venn diagram. Crafts, lovers, united, till. I hate do have a little fun list I could share with you guys. You got a klutz list?

Speaker: but but No, I have a list of it's an article from the BBC Countryfile, the 10 naughtiest dog breeds in the world. 10 naughtiest dog breeds? so from across the pond, someone's going to tell me the 10 naughtiest breeds in the world. anyway Okay.

Speaker: And I just want to say, i think this person was ah maybe it partaking in our 420 episode when they wrote this list because I feel like it's a little crazy.

Speaker: Are they daft? ah Well, that's what, okay, daft, perfect example. does Does naughty mean the same thing in British that it means here? Maybe we're, we don't know.

Speaker: I don't know. I feel like naughty is like, Pretty universal. Misbehaving child. Okay. All right. Fair enough. So these are the top 10 misbehaving child dogs. Yeah, but we do start at number one.

Speaker: Okay. Interesting. The most, the most naughtiest? Should i even ask you guys to guess or do you want me just tell you? Because I know you want to be unbiased about Breeze. It's more about the individual dog. Hmm.

Speaker: It is. I mean, there's definitely some that are more prone to being like they're bred that way. They're bred to be protective and hyper vigilant and they're kind of confident and to really bond with their family and no one else because that's what they were bred to do. They have a job to do and it's protect. And so like to send that's not naughty. That's just it's a working dog. I'm going to go with it's a working dog that is not and an unemployed working dog, I think is going to be on that. An unemployed working dog. I'm going to take a swing.

Speaker: My ex-wife was a Belgian Malinois. And I'm going to go with that. Well, hold on. So I also, just to reframe it, naughty to to veterinarians might mean ah ah a bit nippy, a bit non-compliant for the things that we do, but naughty to someone else could be stealing mother's roast off the kitchen counter.

Speaker: digging holes in the backyard. There's so many versions of naughty you can be. It doesn't say aggressive. but just um I could tell you the first one and that would kind of give you a vibe. Okay. what Maybe I need that. When it comes to naughty. I need a naughty vibe check. Okay. So number one naughtiest dog on this list is the Chihuahua.

Speaker: So stealing pies off windowsills. It's that kind of, we're talking about cartoon naughty. I think maybe being in a little bit of a stinker. I think i think it is. it says ah this list is in no particular order, which is not true. And ah they, but without a doubt, Chihuahuas are number one.

Speaker: um They say they're fairly feisty. I mean, when most adult humans are probably 15 times your size,

Speaker: gotta try to talk a big game. You gotta stand up for yourself. It's a woof woof. It's scurry out there. we whious is scurry out there. put on Yeah, i do. I think it's art's cartoonishly naughty for sure. that and Because like they can be sweet little dumplings or they can be a little, oh little and not you know? And then you're like, calm down.

Speaker: You're seven pounds. had two absolutely gorgeous Chihuahua patients today. And yeah, maybe a little reserved, but I got down. I went down. i let it get at my face. It sniffed me.

Speaker: It licked my head for a second. They were great. um One when was Munchkin, one was Layla. They were incredible. That sounds perfect. I will say I used to be kind of like, Chihuahua. The more time I spend in this field, the more I'm kind of like, I could probably have one.

Speaker: A little potato of my own. I'd have to ask for Sam. Do you guys prefer the deer headed or apple headed Chihuahua? I like, I've had a few of these. I'm going to call them chihuahua with air quotes. Something happened at the chihuahua. She um moved her fingers as in the air quotes. You missed it.

Speaker: ah Something happened at the Chihuahua factory. Something was cross-pollinated with potatoes and they just come out kind of in like a guinea pig, weeny baby form. That's my favorite flavor of Chihuahua. I'm just like, what is that? Like, it looks like if you gently pushed it, it would roll down a hill in perpetuity. That's the shape and size and flavor of Chihuahua I'm looking for. And if you want to. like a hypothyroid Chihuahua. That's your make and model. I like a potato with a silly name. That's what I like. And I'm not afraid to say it.

Speaker: I had a patient named Tuttle's and Tuttle's was perfect. Is Tuttle's one of the lost boys? right Maybe. he was also a perfect chihuahua slash potato. And he just, he had not a thought in his head. His tongue did not fit in his mouth. He would have rolled down that hill forever. And his name was Tuttle's. He lost, he lost his marbles. He's perfect.

Speaker: Should I go to number two? Yeah. number two Jack Russell Terrier. Yeah, okay, everyone is 10 times your size. And you have a ton of energy. You're technically a working dog.

Speaker: You're a ratter, and you're spring-loaded, and... Very confident. Now this one confident feels like it's stealing a pie. but it feels like it's a little feisty, and it's going for that slice of pie if it gets have a chance. This one, to me, it's hanging on the cuff it's hanging on the the hem of my garment.

Speaker: Okay. Okay. Oh, yeah. In a fun way. Give it a job. Make it chase something. and Make it find something. yeah it a job. Dig, dig, dig, dig, dig. Okay. Well, for number three, Scottish Terrier.

Speaker: Okay. Maybe we are rounding down. Interesting, because this is British. we don't i don't see a ton of Scotties around here. What about you? I think I've only seen like two in my career. They're not. Westies for days. Westies all day. Okay. That's the next one. Westies.

Speaker: ah Interesting. A little yin and yang situation. Okay, this tells me that- Westy is a west West Highland White Terrier, correct? Yes. That tells me that, yeah, they started at their number one and are scaling back unless there's a big pivot now, half one. Okay, but now there's going to be a pivot because the next one is Boxer. That's a hard disagree. I don't get that.

Speaker: I love boxers. Do they say anything about it? They're not on the list for any aggressive nature, but because they tend to come in two flavors, sedate and placid, or as mad as a box of frogs. Okay. I'm glad we got to hear mad as a box of frogs. And true to a degree. I do feel like they are some of my bounciest characters. You got a bob and weave. It's in the name.

Speaker: ah Love a boxer, though. They're so happy and that just forever. I got to live with the best boxer. Her name is Nora. She had such a big gap in her teeth and she always got food and fuzz stuck in it and stunk like a frog in a basket.

Speaker: Is that right? Did I do it? It's close. It's close. Like two baskets on a... It's smelly. It's smelly and I flossed her. Smell like a toad-shaped basket full of stuff.

Speaker: i get Yeah, okay, so Boxer versus, not physically, just compared to Chihuahua or Jack Russell. Yeah, they started at the number one. They sat in no particular order, too. so it did Oh, they did? Yeah, it could just be a smattering naughtiness. numbering things, then? they said I don't know. situation So you know that he didn't cheat and put nine on there.

Speaker: Keep them accountable. Well, the next one is German Shepherd. That's all. Literally a handful of them too. I think that's maybe going to fall in line unless Malinois shows up. That's my my surrogate for that.

Speaker: For sure. Again, nervous by nature, meant to be protective. It's not their fault. yeah They need a strong hand and a good trainer. is this person ah in the animal field, did it say? Is it a doctor? um Yeah, it's vet.

Speaker: ah The next one is Shih Tzu. I feel like Shih Tzu is for the most part a very sweet. It says nothing is as stubborn as a naughty Tzu. Okay, I'm imagining trying to do an oral exam and they're just pulling away. They literally were like trying to give these tiny dogs a tablet. Yeah, but they don't quit. Yeah, yeah, okay.

Speaker: Persistent, I understand. i also think it was a shih tzu that I saw that ate an entire roll of raw sausage and then I had to make it do donuts in the in the back because it wouldn't puke on the apron working. And we were Tokyo drifting backwards and forwards until it brought up the entire log of sausage all in one.

Speaker: Were you in a vehicle or on foot? On foot. On foot? Okay. I was making the sounds, though. Which sounds? ye It was the Tokyo Drift soundtrack. um anyway The next one on the list is a Labrador stealing the pie.

Speaker: That's a pie. that's ah that's Hey, guys, that's our first pie stealer. a pie stealer eating socks sock swallower absolutely that's that's that's a fun naughty well fun and turn your back they say turn your back for a second there's some chocolates gone absolutely obliterated yeah covered in mud pie socks okay okay so second to last one cocker spaniel Yeah, but their ears hurt.

Speaker: I know. Most of their faces hurt, yeah. Their ears hurt so bad. And they like they also eat things. Don't forget their putter dermatitis. I know. Their feet hurt, their ears hurt, and usually their teeth aren't great. So they're just struggling. Tip to toe, they're probably uncomfortable.

Speaker: Okay, and the last one, which little natty I think is an upset. Okay. Don't say cats. Don't say cats. Cats whats burn it.

Speaker: First of all, stupid that's cheating. Second of all, rude. Here's the thing, though. In this guy's defense, a cat is a pretty naughty dog because it doesn't sit when you tell it to It's not going to fetch the morning paper, probably. He says, I would take everything on the list over a stressed out, feisty cat.

Speaker: You know what? There's a lot of vets out there, though, that I do think, because they have not lived and loved a cat, they don't necessarily understand the subtleties of caring said cat. It's just...

Speaker: It's a labor of love because it can be challenging, but they're so stinking cute and they're just scaredy pants, McGee. They don't go outside their house. They get you as advertised. Just treat them appropriate. i Boo.

Speaker: Boo. know. said, I feel like that kind of blows the whole list out of. Yeah, it's a naughty dog. Oh, check out my list. Top 10 desserts. And then I throw steak at some point. That doesn't, that's no good. Yeah.

Speaker: I want steak now though. I want another cat. I want another cat and i want a filet mignon. Well, I have some stories. Yeah. Would that with that cleanse the palate? I think that will help me calm it down.

Speaker: Yeah. Okay, the mail has been checked. The medical journals have been perused. And that summer blowout sale on fresh grubs is looking mighty tempting. i'm just sp a gimal yeah sp It's Spill it, spill it.

Speaker: I have two stories for you. Both are from the internet. Both um I pulled and I don't remember where i found them. Probably read it. It's fair. Bark web. Bark web.

Speaker: Okay. It begins. A customer had bought a pedigree dog chew bone. Individually packaged in a sealed bag.

Speaker: He brought it back a few days later, stormed in and yelled at the cashier. Where is your manager? Being the assistant manager and the highest up there, she directed him to me.

Speaker: He came towards me, obviously looking hostile. What do you think this man is upset about? Also, I should have prefaced that this is a pet store. Pre-chewed.

Speaker: Heard customer and i got excited. Well, you want that distressed look. You pay extra for that. You do. The holes in the jeans. No, I do. I think somebody baby-burned and he's mad. Oh.

Speaker: Or maybe there there be bugs in that. Did it say what? It said it was a pedigree. A pedigree dog chew bone that was individually packaged in a sealed bag.

Speaker: um It chewed so hard its gums bled. That does happen. Buyer beware. Well, I can tell you what happened. Please do. Apparently.

Speaker: His kitchen was now full of bugs. Yuck. Oh, sounds like he's gross. Yeah. He noticed that the dog bone he had bought had holes all over it and immediately reasoned that insect eggs inside the dog bone had been revived from their dormant state. As soon as he opened the packaging,

Speaker: where they hatched and ate their way outside the dog bone to infest his kitchen. What do you guys think about that theory? You know, bug paranoia is so real.

Speaker: yeah And it's something that we don't get, but we kind of get prepped for it in our parasitology classes. Like there's like a, there's some warnings about it, but like truly the the paranoia and the stress that people go through blaming their pets for the bugs in their homes is bananas. And they're so upset when you can't just fix it by treating the pet because the pet is not the source of the bugs. If there even are bugs, it gets deep.

Speaker: I had I had a wild one today. It was this chronic non healing lesion on a cat's lip. It looks like eosinophilic granuloma complex, but the woman won't let anyone test it, do anything. But she has a lot of Internet veterinary medical knowledge. So she's been um lavashing it with ivermectin. She's been giving fenbendazole. She's been putting silver on it, which that's kind of cool.

Speaker: um Is it a werewolf?

Speaker: that's I hate that we said that with the same inflection at the same This is like it's why some people can't tell you two apart.

Speaker: Yeah. You think we're related. it's just wild because the three of us grew up in the same house, yet I didn't say, is it a werewolf? But I guess because it's my story. So like in my world of watching Real Housewives, Brandi Glanville from Real Housewives of Beverly Hills um believes that there are bugs infesting her face.

Speaker: Yeah. We don't really know what's going on with her face. She says that she feels bugs crawling around her in her face. that And that's just it. The feeling of bugs. It's rough. There's a name for it. It's a it's the word sounds dirty, but it's not.

Speaker: What is it? Hold on. um No, I don't know it. Say it Tell me. Formication with Formication with an M. Thank you.

Speaker: ah So this chronic thing has not wanted to do diagnostics, but has been covering it in ivermectin i veric it and fenbendazole and wants wants us to get some DMSO so that they can put that on first before the ivermectin really get in there. And then wanted me to know if she could if I could source her some um to Serenib or Palladia ah for this. We don't know what this thing is. what's Palladia?

Speaker: no what's palladia It is a tyrosine kinase and hit like you can use it. Words that I don't understand. it's ah it's up flames on the side of my face It's a mighty powerful medication to treat certain types of tumors.

Speaker: under very specific circumstances of when it's appropriate. And yes on your cat's face without knowing what it is, is not on the label. But she she has been seeing parasites come out of it, which is why she wants to keep it on fenbenazole. She's been seeing little little rice pieces, little rice-shaped worms coming out of it. And I said,

Speaker: My, you know, my ah tech prepped me for this was about to be put upon me when I went in the room. So I was like, OK, great. I got this. And I was like, I totally hear you. Like any chance you happen to catch pictures of this? She says, oh, of course.

Speaker: I've seen better Bigfoot photos than the parasites on this face. They are blurry, grainy. They look like nothing. But she is convinced that there are bugs coming out of this wound.

Speaker: Yeah. Yeah. I ain't seen them. um What were we talking about? Bugs coming out of the tree. Bugs in the tree. Coming out coming out of a bone. That's right. Yeah. The bug bone.

Speaker: Okay, so they go on to say this wasn't the first time we've had customers want to return dog bones for having bugs because they failed to keep the bones in a sealed container.

Speaker: But never before had I heard a customer so insistent that we sold him the bone that had insect eggs inside the bone. So... I tried not to laugh and be professional as I didn't want him to get even more upset. Right.

Speaker: I simply asked, sir, did you leave the bone outside at all? He said, yeah, my dog had it outside all night and I brought it in this morning when the bugs hatched and infested my kitchen.

Speaker: o Oh, so they're just they're just dumb person. So I calmly said, trying to hide my smile, sir, could it be possible that the bugs began eating the bone outside during the night and were in the bone when you brought them into your house?

Speaker: He said, we do not have bugs in our yard. We spray for insects every month. I want my money back. How many times have you heard people say? All the time. Constantly. They don't have bugs in their yard. Yeah, you don't need preventive because you you spray.

Speaker: Yeah. I treat the yard. Okay, well. I will say I was one of those people that I was like, why would I get flea treatment on my inside cat? And then someone said, I've never heard of an outdoor only bug.

Speaker: And I said, you got me there. It's true. I'm glad that registered well with you. Some folks don't take kindly to naughty little jabs.

Speaker: They don't. They don't appreciate that. Doormats, windowsills, sliding door tracks. But again, the hem of your pants. Anywhere. They on. They will come in.

Speaker: Anywhere, anywhere. I got a tick when I was at Girl Scout camp. oh Right on my neck. Ooh, a vampire tick. I know. It's intense. What'd you Even with the mosquito netting. So see, there's no safe space. Well, really camp is outside. but Yeah, but you had mosquito netting.

Speaker: But that's outside too. And also we sprayed. There's not enough spray for outside. ah I know. I sprayed myself too. See, not enough spray. and No, no. Okay.

Speaker: Oh, I also had to field. um I had to look for a tick today. Drop off sedated exam on a fractious dog. Did you find it? We needed to update our vaccines. We needed a broken dewclaw address, and we needed to find that pesky tick.

Speaker: Guess what? am i My friends, it was three nipples. Yay. We love to hear it. evenhan I know.

Speaker: I know. You got this. This is a back pocket. it thick or is it a nipple? ah Okay, to finish up this story, I probably would have been happy to give him at least a small amount of store credit or maybe a dollar's worth of bulk dog biscuits or something had he been polite.

Speaker: polite he But seeing as how he made my cashier almost cry, i explained to him that we can't take back an opened and chewed on product, told him we would remove the pedigree bones from the store, and told him to call the number on the packaging for further complaints, there is as we had nothing to do with the making of the pedigree bones.

Speaker: yeah He yelled, trying to make a scene to make me give him his money back. If you don't give me my money back, I will not return here ever again. And I said, sir, that's probably for the best. Directing me to the good time. I know. stood there quietly. i prepared to block a punch, but instead he turned around and stormed off.

Speaker: Oh, correct choice, sir. Correct choice. Do either of you have people trying to return like dog food and stuff as if it's like there's a problem with it, but really maybe it was just like, ah I don't really have people trying to return things um because there's a problem with it. I have a lot of wives returning things their husbands bought, but they didn't actually need. and then of Or like some buyer's remorse when they finally got the final bill and they didn't want to say anything at the time. and then they're like, I didn't know that it was going to be this much. I don't want this anymore. And I say, OK, I'm going bring it on back. this Is this like medications or items?

Speaker: Uh, we, like, if people are causing a big stink, I'll take it back. I don't redistribute it, though. It just goes in the trash. I'm like, well, we're all screwed now. But if it's sealed, I'll take stuff back if it's, like, the same day. You? What about you, Dr. G? I don't i don't have that kind of, uh, that kind of power.

Speaker: Well, not now, but you have in the past. Sure. think there's an honor system. They know if they done wrong. And I just look at them. I look at them until they crack. but I mean, that's definitely a technique for sure. Had happened to me when I was a receptionist, I would have jokingly told him, I was just like, yeah, the books are a bonus gift. That's nice.

Speaker: And usually that kind of breaks the tension. protein enhanced. I'm not kidding. I really, i do have this ability to just joke about something and make people really off put and they're like, what? And I'm like, no, we'll return. I'll take it back.

Speaker: I would, I think yeah if I had the, i have if I had the authority in that context, I would swap it out with a fresh one. Yeah. If they were interested in that idea. And then I'd probably take it behind the scenes and figure out what kind of bugs they're talking about.

Speaker: I know. Do you think there were flyers or crawlers? And it sounds like some crawlers. does sound like some crawlers. Oh, it was definitely maggots. If it was in the backyard, would fly. Definitely just laid some eggs on it, probably. And honestly, starter family home. She was so excited raise her kids there. know. She was like, it's got great bones. It's got great bones.

Speaker: Slap a coat of paint on this one. It's perfect. Okay, well, I have a second story. Okay. And this is a story from an owner that I found on the internet. um Thanks, Ho.

Speaker: And it's about, I wouldn't say exotic, but just like, it's in the rodent family. You guys probably don't really see them that often. A pocket pet of sorts. Okay, so it begins.

Speaker: I had rats... And the girls and the boys had their own rooms. But when the girls went into heat, they were insufferable, especially my girl named Yoda.

Speaker: So one day, she broke into the room where the boys were. and I genuinely, to this day, have no clue how she got the door open. It was a heavy door.

Speaker: i heard some squeaking and found Yoda and Lucille, who were both in heat, under my bed with Remy. Hot dog. Remy was exhausted, and I mean exhausted.

Speaker: He slept for most of the day after the encounter with the twins. Scandalo. is scandalous. So like, as far as rat patients go, what are your dealings with that?

Speaker: Few and far between. Yeah, pretty few and far between. They're super cute. They are cute. I do feel like when somebody is a rat owner, it's like they know a lot about rats. rat people love their rats. i have yeah I have never met someone who has regretted having a rat as a pet.

Speaker: listen sir um yeah But, hang on, let me clear that. I've never had someone come into the hospital to treat their pet rat that has regretted having a rat. I'll bet the people who did never came in.

Speaker: but I mean, that's fair. Yeah. Yeah. ah yeah Rat people love their rats more than some dog or cat people. It's true. And like I said, the rats are really cute. I got to take care of one when I was in school and she was so cute. and She's had like really bad diarrhea, but she wouldn't eat like her little high protein food. She'd get so mad and she'd go, no. And like paw at the syringe and be like, I don't want it though. And we're like, baby girl, you need was so cute.

Speaker: I had to help someone say goodbye to theirs at home, and it was it was a young family with like three little girls as well, and this rat had its own bedroom in the house up on the walls covered in drawings of rats. These rats had their own rooms, boys and girls.

Speaker: Yeah, dormitories. Just like camp. Yeah. Just keep the bugs out. yeah Okay, so this next part is kind of interesting to me. So I phoned the vet and asked them about a morning after pill for rats.

Speaker: which does exist, but my vet was kind of against it, and she talked me into letting them go through their pregnancy and gave me a diet for pregnant rats, so I stuck to it.

Speaker: I have to know what are they talking about. The morning after pill or pregnant rat diet? Probably going Suprostol. Yeah.

Speaker: But I don't know. I've never... That fascinated me. The fecundity of a rat is immeasurable. And what do you know? You got a bunch of rats. They're going to make more rats.

Speaker: Right. It's practically like their job. Basically what they're there for. Yeah. Is that what you would tell them? just Just go with it. I would tell them to go see an exotics vet and then I'd panic.

Speaker: Fair. i I don't know nothing about pregnancy and rats. I wouldn't pregnancy shame them, but I i don't know. i So I know like surgery in rodents is challenging because of how they handle infections and also other factors.

Speaker: But where are we vis-a-vis ah the like injectable like chemical castration of rats? Aren't we doing that? Is that something that actually took off or was that something they were just like testing when we were in school? Because I know they were talking about. Interesting.

Speaker: Yeah, just to prevent. I think you could talk with your good friend, Dr. S, about this. You're right. They might be an absolute authority. Okay, folks, we'll find out and we'll let you know. Fair enough. Fair enough. All right, let's continue on.

Speaker: Kat. It doesn't, like, make it really obvious, but she's um talking about both Yoda and Lucille, the twins. The twins. Okay. The twins. Okay. Okay. They got chicken more often, a little more dairy than usual, and by the time they were ready to give birth, I put them in separate cages because it's better for rats to give birth separate or they start sharing babies.

Speaker: and then I think it becomes a whole big mess. yeah that makes sense you are not the mother i mean i've seen like even cats are kind of weird about moving kittens around and you have two litters so it's complicated who was the bomba you need maury some sort of rat version of maury in there to help you sort it out Well, there was only one dad in the assistance. There were two girls. Yeah, but who's the mom of the baby? That's the fun part, yeah. You are not the mother. I've always wanted that episode.

Speaker: And the rats are on there pregnant again already. Of course. Yeah. Okay, so there was one night I was convinced Yoda was about to give birth.

Speaker: She was round and she was sleeping on her back. So I stayed up with her. But then for some reason, I started counting days she'd been pregnant and realized that she's like a week overdue. Uh-oh.

Speaker: Turns out they weren't pregnant after all. The pregnancy diet had just made them super round and squishy. Oh no. ah Oh no, they just got fat. So in the end, needless to say, the sisters returned to each other and were put on a diet and they lived a long child-free life.

Speaker: And Remy probably dreamt about his five seconds with the twins for a long time. Five seconds, he was exhausted. Hey man, don't judge. That's 2.5 seconds per twin.

Speaker: Oh, man. Well, I mean, it sounds like the girls got the best deal out of all of this. and I know. They got treated to luxury and then didn't have to have any children.

Speaker: I know. um After five seconds with Remy, you know? a second Again, two point five a 2.5 second orgasm and then three weeks of junk food sounds awesome. What's in?

Speaker: Some people dream for a lot more, but that's that's a great place to start, you know? If this was like a case in your clinic, would you just think this was probably the best rat patient story ever?

Speaker: Probably. i hope they get to meet all three of the involved parties. hope so, too. I can't, they are on stage, they're Jerry Springer, they're Maury. i see oh ok I just want to say the twins' names are Yoda and Lucille.

Speaker: We didn't go like both Star Wars names for the girls. Does the female gremlin have a name? ah that It must. want to say Lucille could work.

Speaker: but was Lucille could work for the female gremlin. Maybe, yeah. And then they're both little green people, huh? oh Yeah. Yeah. So when I was in college, I did have a pet mouse for a very short period of time. i don't want to get into what happened to poor Doris Whistle Cheese, but I loved that mouse.

Speaker: Let's just say that mice are cannibals and I did not know that. Mm, dribbles too. My sister's dribble ate my dribble's head. Okay. Yeah. so Doris ah dos didn't make it because someone else's pet mouse was came out on top.

Speaker: You know what? You want to be on top? And it was like a little America's Next Top mouse and they didn't Hammett feels an awful lot like it might have been your mouse that ate her mouse. I never had a mouse. had a hamster. No, it was me, the college roommate. Yeah.

Speaker: Oh. You had a college mouse. Mm-hmm. Domestic or wild? You know what? It was probably a feeder mouse.

Speaker: I didn't know. That's fair. Then feed your mice until it's over. Well, she was. She did feed somebody. Just listening. Poor Doris Whistle Cheese.

Speaker: know. If I ever had a pet rat, I would name it Doris Whistle Cheese 2. Yeah. I think that's completely valid. And you should think about it. we've We're dealing with hermit crabs over here and they're not... They did their they lived for about a year.

Speaker: And now we have an empty aquarium with just shells. And my kid just thinks that there's hermit crabs still in there. It's low maintenance.

Speaker: I don't have the heart to tell her they're all dead. The most low maintenance. I think it's understandable. They're a lot harder to keep alive than you think. Honestly, exotics are really challenging. It really comes down to husbandry and it's not as easy as just educating yourself about it. Like the maintenance and... they would that they They should be in a humid climate that's always humid and not doesn't get as cold as it does where I live. Yeah, that's true. did my best, but it just... its The humidity...

Speaker: They're meant to live on the beach each. got that other hand um Well, I don't know about you guys, but I feel like we definitely spilled the kibble tonight. buyer beware.

Speaker: No bones about it. She's got good bones. She's got good, great bones. Great bones. Thank you so much for listening.
