Speaker: nor listening to Spill the Kibble, the podcast where I read your submitted stories and have real veterinarians react to them. If you are interested in sharing your clinic story, email us at spill at spill the kibble.com.

Speaker: Please note that this show is not suitable for all listeners. Listener discretion is advised. And with that, let's go to the show.

Speaker: Welcome to Spill the Kibble. I'm Kel. Hail and well met. I'm Dr. G. And I'm Dr. M. And we're here to tell your clinic or pet stories. But first, how are you both doing?

Speaker: It was one heck of a Monday today. I don't know about anybody else. Your sticky Monday? This was the Monday of all Mondays, I think, after a series of very Monday Mondays. ah The Monday.

Speaker: Manic Monday. Potentially a Manic Monday. No, I mean, whatever. It was busy. But we came into the office early and found that our vaccine fridge door was wide open. no.

Speaker: And everything was room temperature inside. So thousands of dollars of vaccines and different injectables were all...

Speaker: tossed in the garbage. You got cameras? no Who did it? You did Don't say. This doesn't count. This isn't admissible evidence. You can tell us. think I know who did it, but I'm not going to say because I don't want to put them on blast. I'm sure it was an accident. It was nothing intentional. But are we getting child locks on our fridges? Yes, we are.

Speaker: Yes, we are. um But yeah, that's, you know, that's an important ah lesson. Vaccines are meant to be kept at a very specific temperature. And if they get warm and then you re-refrigerate them, they might not be as effective. and That's why every once a while, we as veterinarians get a teeny bit nervous about vaccines that aren't from a hospital because there's really no way for us to guarantee that those vaccines didn't get to room temp before they got to your pet.

Speaker: So we're not trying to be ding-dongs. We're just nervous about temperatures. And you headed me off right at the pass. I was going to ask as soon as you saw that it was open. and yeah You run to the local farm and fleet.

Speaker: Tractor supply. Get yourself a whole arm's worth of DAPVs. epvs no I did not because I don't trust their refrigeration, unfortunately. So, no My poor hospital manager spent the entire morning calling like every rep and seeing if we could speed rush. ah new vaccines and luckily ah another local clinic was able to loan us some stuff to get through the day and so we'll return that to them but you yeah good good community members decided to go ahead and and and help us out so that we didn't have to reschedule our whole day which was very kind yeah so that was a that was a little rough and then on top of that we were just like back back slammed and down a person so it was little chaotic

Speaker: It's okay. You made it. The day flew by. I'll tell you that much. I'm exhausted, but I feel like it happened in a blink. Those days fly. The records stack. I got them all done because I'm that good. I just don't pee and I don't eat lunch. It's fine. There's days like these. Mama said there'd be days like these. It's going to be It's not every day, so it's fine.

Speaker: It was originally a 12 minute long song. They cut out a lot of stuff in back scenes and piss. yeah Yeah, exactly. You get it. I'm noticing Dr. G has a pizza blanket.

Speaker: While technically accurate, um soon enough you'll know that it is indeed a pizza cape. Oh! A hard plosive P. I hope that sounded okay.

Speaker: It really popped the mic. Looking very saucy from here. so Yeah, you look very saucy. It's a wet pie back there. I believe it is pepperoni. um So yeah, this is a pizza cape. And the reason is i was going on some vacation. for I was off for eight days.

Speaker: Ah, it was incredible. But on this trip, it was with my girlfriend's third annual family vacation. Adorable. And dora alarm for the first couple of years, something has happened that has ruined or botched dinner. Both times circled around pizza. And the um the guilty party in both of those instances was her father. And so after two episodes. I'm sorry. I have to interrupt. Please.

Speaker: How are we botching pizza? Are we burning it? I'm glad help you asked. The least botchable, I think, of most of the foods. Totally. So I'll tell you the two botchings, and you'll tell me if it ruins the pizza for you.

Speaker: Should we guess the botchings? Sure. is it undercooked? Year one, debatable. Year two, no.

Speaker: Okay, okay. did Did it perhaps take a tumble and spill right as it was prepared for everyone? No, no, no. It was the execution, not the finale. Okay. Did the family pet eat it?

Speaker: No. Year one probably would have been fine. Year two, we would not allow any pets to eat it. Oh, goodness. And two cats on the trip. Lead, lead in the pizza. Now.

Speaker: Shoot. wo But i would say ah not a mineral, not a metal. poison Poison? Mechanically poisonous. Oh my. Yeah, tell us, tell us. Razor blades in the pizza, razor blades in the pizza. So close to razor blades in the pizza. Okay, tell us, tell us, I need to know now.

Speaker: Okay, year one, the dough was still frozen. There wasn't enough time to let it thaw naturally. So Papa Potter decided that they would use the hot tub to basically sous vide this frozen dough to get it to temperature to then work with it and deal with it. Everyone but him, I wasn't on the trip this year, decided that's disgusting. Please don't. People do stuff in there. Yeah.

Speaker: So he ignored their their pleas and sous vide this this dough and was ready to go and made the pizza and everyone refused to eat it. And I believe he was quite upset that no one wanted his pizza, despite their pleas to not do it that way. And we just got something else. Sure. That was year one.

Speaker: He tried to MacGyver it. tried to MacGyver it. And you know what? So it sounds like you two not interested in eating that pie. How do we triple bag before we put I'm going to say he at least double bagged it. Okay.

Speaker: Oh, listen, it depends on how peckish I am, but Papa Potter might have gotten me with your one. I might have i might have been willing to indulge. Mostly because I'm a people pleaser. Yeah. And I want to make sure he's not sad. You're a people pleaser and a pizza person. Yes. True. Both of those things are true. And for me.

Speaker: Yeah. And like, I was going to be swimming in that tub anyway. and As long as he warmed it up before I got in there, that's fine. Sure. ah I think I would have feigned an allergy. To hot tubs? Marine. Yeah. No.

Speaker: ah so pizza To pizza. Well, that means you're too you're not allowed to have pizza. You're forever cutting yourself out from pizza. i don't I don't know if would trust it. Also, this was all family. I think they would know if you had a pizza. Okay. Does Kel have a pizza allergy?

Speaker: Who knows? Guys, we got to test this. Listeners, please mail us all the pizza you can muster. Yeah. We are going to taste them all. Do we have a P.O. box?

Speaker: Not yet. Do we have a pizza hope Yeah, we do. All right. I feel like we could have achieved similar sous vide-esque processes if we put it in the dishwasher on high and hot. Because I've seen people cook salmon in the dishwasher. But then it's going to get soapy.

Speaker: one You don't put out the soap. You double bag it. it's it's It's bagged multiple times. It's sealed in there. It's just another sous vide option that's maybe a little less body.

Speaker: So we're all agreeing if you if you triple bag it. We all agree? i think I think everyone at the table says if you quadruple bag dough.

Speaker: Mm-hmm. You're fine, you're good to go. You're fine. Okay, tell us about year two. Year two, properly thawed dough, workable, malleable, good on the fingers, easy on the eyes.

Speaker: Makes its way, but we were short some pans. Oh, by the way, I'm here year two. Boots on the ground. So we're scrounging around inside of this rental, this rental house. A Pyrex dish was found.

Speaker: Pizza was put in there and then it was done on the grill. Worked well. Pizza looked delicious. Hot pizza Pyrex dish was immediately taken and placed on the cold metal side table of the grill and exploded. Oh, oh no. So it's glass.

Speaker: Glass. Glass in your pizza. I was going to say Pyrex. No, no, no, no, no. I thought that was the safest glass. You can you can cook things in the oven in Pyrex, no?

Speaker: I think it was just the rapid temperature shift. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think if it just went if it just cooled down to temp and didn't budge, but since it a immediately went into cold metal, it exploded.

Speaker: yeah so now I ask again, do you eat this prickly pizza? No, I'm scared. yeah okay Do you think maybe you need to buy Papa Potter a... Proper pizza paraphernalia? Cast iron pizza pan?

Speaker: Wait, Potter's Pizza Pizazz. Have you ever seen one? This is real? Yes! My roommate in Vet school had a pizza pizzazz. It was one of those like as seen on TV products. And it was just a little like rotating pizza pan that went under like a little easy bake oven style heater and it would slowly cook your pizza. ah Perfect every time. Just plug it in Took a tons of space on the countertop. I did make cookies on it one time. You can do a lot with the pizza pizzazz. Bring it back.

Speaker: ah Would it feed nine and two cats? have to run the pizzazz twice double pizzazzing okay or get two pizzazzes christmas is coming it's right around the corner and you know somebody who has not sponsored you know somebody who has an off-brand cricket and so if you wanted to make a potter's pizza pizzazz i feel like we can make this happen for you you have wait you have a grass chopper yeah cool that's right very neat So there we are. After years one and two, the rest of the family deciding someone has to win some sort of an award for kind of ruining dinner slash vacation every year. Okay, fair. So so it was decreed that there would be something, and the name is still kind of a working title, but it's essentially Papa Potter Pizza Plunder Award.

Speaker: Love that. ha And um this year, seems like maybe we were scraping the barrel and everyone was super careful in preparing things. So we really had to find someone who deserved this award, which manifests as a pizza cape. Oh, I've already given it away.

Speaker: A pizza crown and a rolling pin scepter. I want to come to this party. Can I just say? come. I'll risk the glass in my pizza. It sounds very fun. You are the third sister. Why are we not invited? It's true. Because you're one I wasn't invited. I didn't even exist. I wasn't even a glint in my partner's eye. Okay.

Speaker: You two, I got to go for half because i was still kind of new. Yeah, that's fair. Testing the waters. was there the whole ding dang time. Yeah, you were. now you can invite people. Now I can invite my other sister half half the time. I'll invite half of my sisters.

Speaker: Fair enough. You can decide left ball or right ball. We'll do our best. And then, and so then it is day four. Here we are. Everyone goes out for a hike or something like that. I decide I'm going to hang back. I'm reading The Fellowship of the Ring. i am out on the pier. am sunbathing. I'm throwing back a couple of brewskis. Sounds beautiful. I know. I did it the day before for a little while, but now I'm like all by myself. And then maybe my partner's over there reading in the shade because she has alabaster skin and she can't get burned. I think it's really important have good skin care.

Speaker: And I took out one of the Adirondack chairs. I took out my towel. I got it out on the pier. I walked back to go say something probably super sweet to her. And a gust of wind took the chair and the towel and just, bloop, knocked it into the water. Oh, no. Oh, no. So I said, oh, no. And I wandered over and I waded into the water, which I'd already been swimming in. And I plucked it out. I plopped it up.

Speaker: And i took my wet towel and I draped it up there, too. And I made a like, oh no kind of face. And she filmed me retrieving it. And I didn't know that. And so I guess that was the only bad thing that happened at all the entire trip. So that's why you have the pizza cape.

Speaker: So, yeah, that's why the pizza cape I did on the final night um at the fire, ah try to make a case for myself and I blacked out. I must have because I didn't pay attention to the time, but I was told I spoke for about 45 minutes.

Speaker: In a, if it pleases the court, final scene, Atticus Finch, Shin Brothers, Survivor, you know, vote with your hearts, you know, not with your malice. Even still, I landed the title. So now I have this gorgeous pizza cape, which I'm going to zhuzh up and I may need help with your grass chopper. I'm putting on a Dalmatian fur trim. Love that. ah We're going to get some patches. and so maybe like salami and pepperoni sized patches. There'll be a hot tub patch. There'll be some Pyrex pyrex shattered glass. And then there's going to an Adirondack chair. And then I will be darned if I win this again next year.

Speaker: I'm going to be honest, I want to say that perhaps the 45-minute speech might have really sold it in the end. Guys, it was so good. was good speech. Your closing arguments did not sway the jury in your favor.

Speaker: No. It's okay. I was trying to channel, and I'm going to be honest, Brennan Lee Mulligan, and I think I would have done him proud. but i bet you did. But was still given this tape. Now, do you think maybe part of it is like their way of hazing you into the family?

Speaker: I hope so. I bet. I think so. hope. Plus, who else would have the fun and the creativity to really zhuzh it in the next year and bring it back better than it was before?

Speaker: They didn't know I was going to zhuzh it. Well, I know they didn't, but maybe they saw your potential. I should have told them I'm not going to wash it. I mean, you might not want to once it has like fancy patches. I mean, that's pheromone maxing, so.

Speaker: There you go. That's what the kids are into. You know, in our first year of vet school, I had a bet with one of our dear friends. Tia and I had a a Super Bowl bet. And that our two teams are going head to head and whoever won had to give one of their team's jerseys to the loser and they had to wear it for the week.

Speaker: And so I had to wear his stupid team's jersey because mine lost. But egg on his face, I wore it into the anatomy lab every single day and gave him a very probably close to $100 jersey stinking a formaldehyde. It's a beautiful friendship.

Speaker: Anyway, so that's why i this beautiful pizza cape. Do you have any non-pizza stories? Because I can't. I mean, I do have stories we can talk about. And there's no pizza in them. You are under oath. You have to tell me the truth. There's no pizza in them.

Speaker: They are pizza free. The pets aren't even named after pizza or anything. Well, before we do that. you don't know that. You don't know what the stories are. but I was just guessing. I'm asking. I don't know Well, before that, the leaves have been raked. The dogs are jumping into the piles. and mo dear.

Speaker: Is that an ocular forward body? no. It's time to spill the kibble. Someone put an e-collar on that thing. The correct way. Don't scratch your eye out, kid. The correct way. Ed first.

Speaker: Dishes out. Yeah, exactly. So this first story was found on the bark web. Nice. Woof woof. ah My parent's dog was about two years old when he suddenly stopped eating.

Speaker: At first they figured he just wasn't feeling well, but then a day went by, that another, and he still wouldn't eat.

Speaker: What are your first thoughts? Two days of not eating. They forgot to feed him.

Speaker: Or he's eating something unknown from another source. Oh. Oh, I had one today that was drinking its housemate's pee-pee. Oh, God. Oh, my. I asked him. I said, I said, was it straight from the hose? They said, yeah, he tries.

Speaker: Oh. and But if he misses it, he just goes for the puddles. That's an interesting predilection. That's disgusting. Now, was that question that you asked them for medical reasons or for your own sicko knowledge? I'm a scientist, okay?

Speaker: Don't question the way that I get my facts. He needs all the data in order to diagnose his patients. Sure, sure, sure you got a sick mind, you need the deets. But that's true. It wasn't an open-ended question. I should have asked. And from where were they collecting said urine?

Speaker: Still or sparkling? ah

Speaker: Still or sputtering? yeah Exactly. Ew. Gross. That's another content warning for the top episode of the episode. It's fine. Yeah. Well, let's continue. Please. please ah The strange part was that he seemed completely normal otherwise.

Speaker: He was acting like himself, drinking water, playing, going outside. He just had absolutely no interest in food. They tried everything.

Speaker: He would take a few bites if they hand fed him, but he wouldn't eat an actual meal and he wouldn't go anywhere near his food bowl. So now what do you think at this point?

Speaker: there kids, children, human children? He's eating the children? No, you probably noticed those missing. they're really irresponsible parents and he's eating the children i i believe no or if there are the children are adult children or grown up enough fairna I'd be curious about this dog's weight because I feel like and and if it's pooping or not because if it's pooping something's going in i don't like where this is going I recuse myself from guessing I'm grossed out all right well let's continue

Speaker: After several days, my parents took him to the vet. They did the exam and couldn't find anything wrong. He was perfectly healthy. The vet basically is said to keep an eye on him and give it some time.

Speaker: So they went home and waited. a few more days passed, still no eating. He'd still take little pieces from their hands, but the second they put food in his bowl, he wanted nothing to do with it.

Speaker: What do you guys think? Why is he averse to the bowl? Put it on something else. Put it on yeah put it on a plate. His collar tags are hitting the middle bowl. There's a stray electrical wire somewhere that is zapping them. I was going to say, yeah, zappy bowl. Ooh.

Speaker: No, they already talked, so they looked at it. Ants? Ants in the bowl? but Ants in the bowl? Ants in the bowl. had ah had like a food puzzle ruin with ants, and my cat wouldn't go near it anymore, and it took me longer than I want to have noticed.

Speaker: but It's okay. We've all been there. Less than several days, less than several meals. Sure. she So you're thinking maybe pests? Yes. Pests? Yeah, some sort of aversion specifically to the bull for sure. so right. Well, let's find out. Okay.

Speaker: Okay. Well, then my sister came over to watch this whole routine and decided to try something different. She took a plastic bowl from the cabinet, filled it with fresh food, and the dog immediately ate the entire meal.

Speaker: Just crunch, crunch, cardch crunch, crunch. That's the scientific method. I appreciate and endorse that person. I ah concur. Is that what you would have done?

Speaker: I definitely, like if the bull seems to be the problem, you know, when you're working with animals and you can't talk to them, you got to just try changing some factors around and see what happens. It's a little bit of experimentation for sure. how to shift the paradigm, tweak the variables.

Speaker: There you go. Exactly right. Well, so apparently he wasn't sick. He was just absolutely terrified of the metal food bowl that my parents had recently bought for him.

Speaker: New bowl. yep That's the secret. Then that's the thing they wouldn't tell us. in the It would be like, anything different? And they'd say, no. Same exact food. That could possibly be it.

Speaker: Same exact food. When we say anything different, we mean anything. Rack your brain. Rack your brain. Any single possible difference could be the answer. Dish days ago. Come on, guys. No.

Speaker: Most people are like, live pretty static, boring lives. You don't even think. i Got a new dish. it's The first one in seven years.

Speaker: I mean, it was labeled as a dog dish. He was only two years old. Yeah. What do you want? They got it from the pet store probably. used dog's dish. Oh, you think? Yeah. The one that starved to death. Oh.

Speaker: Sorry, starved to unalive. Allegedly. Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you. Allegedly. Well, anyway, just to finish off. So after taking him to the vet and trying to figure out why their perfectly healthy two-year-old dog had stopped eating, my parents discovered their dog apparently had beef with his stainless steel bowl.

Speaker: They're loud. Oh, I get it. Yeah. ah Wait, I thought we figured it was the bowl. Oh. Oh, we're being cute now. We're being pretty cute.

Speaker: Do you have that a lot? were it Something really small that changed in the dogs or the cats? are That's the cause of Moving a litter box. That's all it takes sometimes throw them their That's 100% true. And also sometimes my suggestions are very small, seemingly ah stupid changes. And I'm like, you ever tried?

Speaker: Just, you know, if they scarf and barf, they eat their food really, really fast and they throw it up. i'm like, well, spread it out. Spread it out real flat on a cookie sheet. Mm-hmm. Try that well Just today, my cat has been waking me up for months in the middle of the night. I'm losing sleep. Ugh.

Speaker: He'll only stop when I feed him. Oh. What time do you feed him? 7.30 a.m. m and 6 p.m. You think about maybe doing a little snack before bed? Why?

Speaker: So he's not hungry? I'm hungry. Hmm. well I mean, we can see. Can't you give me medicine, though? Yeah. if If my thing doesn't work, let me know. I'll i'll i'll tell you how much melatonin gabapentin to give.

Speaker: ah That's why I love an automatic feeder because then they yell at the automatic feeder for their food. Get mad at mommy machine. Which recently I found out, you know how they have like microchip feeders where it scans your cute little microchip? I didn't realize they had made ones that it was um like a chip in the collar.

Speaker: So if you have a cat that's not microchipped, you can still do it. Yeah, they i think they come with a a little collar, some of them. That makes sense. Okay, fair enough. I have i am one of those right next to where i record. that is where yeah That is how a little squid eats.

Speaker: Aw, squid. And her brother uses time to feed her. They both have different strategies. it's understandable my girl cat the minute the automatic feeder is out though she runs to me and i feel as though she meows at me and then i'm like what's going on is little timmy falling into the well and i have to like follow her and she takes me to the food feeder and she's like mom it's empty i'm just like you're so smart I had to get at one of those hopper automatic feeders, but with two separate dishes because my children only tolerate each other and they weren't eating out a same bowl. So we had to figure out they had to go on opposite sides, face each other out so that you could both eat simultaneously without biting. That's Exactly.

Speaker: Look at the three of us being creative with different strategies, nuanced and approaches to feeding our felines. I think I'm lazy. That, hey, necessity is the mother of invention. Laziness is mine. i use an automatic feeder and I wait for my girl cat to tell me it's empty. It's not so well trained.

Speaker: i think how has the cat trained? Both. it could be It could be percentages of both. She also lets me know when the water is out. That's very kind of her. My cats will knock the um the bowl over in protest and that's how I know.

Speaker: it's not a It's not a come get me, it's a look what you made me do. Angrily slapping it halfway across the Taylor Swift version. Exactly, Taylor Swift version for sure.

Speaker: ah but message heard, you know? Heard chef. Heard chef. Well, I have another story. lo It is partly from a book, which I'm not going to tell you the book yet.

Speaker: Partly newspapers that I looked up. So it's a very interesting story. you did some like You did some research, huh? Yeah, I really did. we talking microfiche? No. no Could be.

Speaker: i mean, maybe, but it was online. Why do us? Tell me it's microfiche. Yeah, do it. Of course. Microfiche. That's so neat. I could see you being a librarian.

Speaker: Is it the glass? Yeah, and the bun. Yeah. Okay. there's There's something there for sure. All right. So it begins. A zoo veterinarian received a call one night from a U.S. fish and wildlife agent asking for help with a rather unusual problem.

Speaker: Someone had been releasing alligators into a small lake. About time. Now, before we continue, I want to know what you think, why this person released alligators in the lake.

Speaker: think that's easy. um They're clearly a member of the mafia, and they're trying to get rid of evidence in their law o local lake. I see population control, not for humans and hits. There's too many fish.

Speaker: Oh, okay. Okay. You think it's irresponsible. Wait, they weren't strong enough to, they didn't have a big enough toilet to flush them, or they weren't strong enough to pick up the sewer caps.

Speaker: Okay. Possibly. That's me. That's how you got it. Okay, well, apparently, this person threatened to release another alligator every week until the county lowered His property taxes.

Speaker: This ransom note stuff.

Speaker: Now, knowing this, where do you think this happened? Oh. ah ahla Alabama.

Speaker: Louisiana. o Louisiana is a good choice. They do have parishes, though. Carry the Florida. Florida. Florida's always a solid choice. One of the Carolinas, perhaps. And before I tell you, do you think this is a legit plan to force the government to lower your taxes? I think it was their legit plan. I don't think it's a good plan, especially because if they know whose taxes they need to lower to stop this madness, they know who to just directly go after.

Speaker: True. Here's the thing. What if you are just a simple guy? Your property taxes too high. The amount of alligators in your house too many. There's only one solution that solves both problems. ah Simultaneously.

Speaker: Fake your own death. Make it plausible because there's so many gators in your home. you Gators don't have money. Property tax go zero. Okay, there's two ways out. but I didn't say two things.

Speaker: So this happened in Massapequa, New York. No. In 1984. Long Island.

Speaker: That is fantastic. Why there'd be so many gators? That's neat. Where'd he get so many gators? Okay, so to continue.

Speaker: The newspapers had chronicled how each day scores of police officers in boats, aided by helicopters flying overhead, had been scouring the lake for three American alligators originally reported by an angler to be three to four feet long.

Speaker: Since the alligators weren't going to make it through the fall and winter, they had to be removed. One alligator had been caught early on, but two remained. Poor babies. I like that they're like, we got to get these sweet little babies to safety.

Speaker: I wonder, they might be able to hibernate, but if we talk to a zoo vet and fish and wildlife, they know better than me. Yeah. Well, also, do we really want them just like... Out. Yeah.

Speaker: And we want our taxes. Yeah, we want lower taxes. and We want to find the gold. I like that they said it like it's just for the alligators. If they could survive, we'd leave them there. That's their new home. Like we're just doing it for them, you guys. We're not doing it for anything personal at all.

Speaker: Mm-hmm.

Speaker: So, continuing the story, the press was having a field day with more than a few pundits appearing on the nightly news, joking about how the alligators were eluding the police.

Speaker: Some local residents had taken to wearing t-shirts that said anti-gator squad and gator busters. The alligators were winning the popularity contest.

Speaker: Now, what would your shirt say? Ooh, um... You're in Long Island. Long Island. It's 84 and there's gators on the loose.

Speaker: I think I'd rock up with my pro algae shirt. oo Okay. Okay. See, I'm not a gator hater, so I guess my my shirt would say not a gator hater.

Speaker: don't know if they said hater in 84. You know what? It's okay. You can make it modern. Like, no gator haid. Hate. Yeah, no gator hate. Gator aid with an A-I-D?

Speaker: I live in a gator community. but Nice. i like that one. Would you show up as a resident wearing a t-shirt so you'd be on the news with silly gator shirts? there Yes. One thousand percent I'd be there. ou In 84, they probably didn't have inflatable inflatable gator or costumes either.

Speaker: ah Yeah, but i bet somebody made a homemade one. Ooh, when did Crocodile Dundee come out? Let me look it up. you round You need an alternative to Dundee. 1986, dang.

Speaker: Alligator Bun b Maybe this inspired him. These alligators were before their time. Well, yeah, maybe it inspired. crocodile dundee and like i want to know if like this story also kind of added to the lore of like new york sewer alligators totally probably like it didn't it didn't ruin that conspiracy theory for sure oh they're not sewers they're in lakes uh i really like your alligated community one yeah i'm having a tough time getting past it to think of anything better

Speaker: Thank you. I think it'd be great. All right. Well, let's continue. So the veterinarian comes in um and at 1 a.m. m they arrive at the appointed time with their trusty aluminum pole fitted with a steel wire noose to find the agent and a rowboat waiting.

Speaker: They plan to row out and use the beam of their headlamps to scan the surface of the water. Now, do you guys know why they're doing this in the middle of the night?

Speaker: You got to look for the glint in the eyes. They're so camouflaged, but they glow. I watched that show. What was it? Swamp People? Probably. Probably. That sounds like something you'd watch.

Speaker: That's what it was called. okay You know, just because it does sound like something I always watch doesn't mean I don't pick up that tone. Swamp people, swamp people. I will say, I didn't include this, but they also said it. They needed to be at night, and they also wanted to make sure there were no news vans around anymore. Yeah. It was secret gator mission. So they really had to wait until the middle of the night.

Speaker: Because when they start rolling, that's ah it's not fun to see. The press or the gators? Yeah, when the gators...

Speaker: Ugh! You're two steps ahead of me every time tonight. No, that's not true. ah This makes sense. This is also kind of fun. I feel like I'd be down for like a midnight gator patrol.

Speaker: Gator hunt? 3 a.m. gator hunt. I feel like that sounds kind of fun. Okay, well, they had been on the lake less than half an hour when two bright glowing orbs appeared in the distance in the beam of the headlights.

Speaker: The blinding light caused the animal to stay immobilized long enough for them to get close and slip the noose over its head, being as quiet as they possibly can be. It's okay, Doctor. I'm not noose. A loop. A loop.

Speaker: I was like, noose? bro Yeah, okay. It's... It is noose-like. I know you're talking about it. It's noose-like, yeah. it's one of those, like, pole. Yeah. Noose has such a connotation. You're right. You're right.

Speaker: You know. They got ridges, though. They're they're not, like, feeble-minded little low guys. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Got stuff. Got stuff and bits. So only a minute later, the alligator was thrashing to free itself from the loop.

Speaker: Thank you. But it was too late. The vet held its jaw closed, and the agent taped the jaws safely shut. The animal was already thin from lack of food, starving in the cold temperatures of the lake.

Speaker: And then pretty soon, the second animal was spotted near the shore, and it was also safely captured. Oof, good. So after that, they left for home, smug in the knowledge the next morning the press would arrive once again for the feast of news, but there would be no more alligators.

Speaker: Eventually, the gators would be returned to the marshes of Louisiana safe and sound. Aww. Aww. But it seems that to this day, no one was charged for the rebellious act.

Speaker: And it remains an unsolved mystery. And just a point of note, ah as of September 2025, there was another news article of an alligator found in that same water here in Long Island. Whoa. are The guy's been at it.

Speaker: Is it just somebody dumping their pet alligator or is it still the same guy trying to lower his taxes? No one knows. I also, i like that he said, every week I'm releasing a gator and he got to three and stopped. That we know of.

Speaker: black Yeah, I guess. I guess, but like he, like, does that mean there he had so many more gators that he never got a chance to release or he thought they'd definitely break in three? Yeah. Shot my whole wad with three gators. Yeah.

Speaker: but thought i'd have him so this is from the book you belong in the zoo by peter brazitis thank you peter brazitis i don't know how you pronounce it but yeah his whole book is about just him being a reptile like okay hang on hang on let her finish but but but but The whole book is how he slowly animorphed into a reptile. Be a literate reptile. He's a reptile veterinarian and apparently he was called by the cops quite a lot to catch alligators in New York.

Speaker: Look at that. See? That's some people's dreams for sure. Not mine. And then um there were actually, I looked up news reports of this time. It's legit. But there was nothing in the newspaper about this person threatening to release them once a week. That was from his book. So I don't know if that was someone secret police information he heard about while he was on gator or hunting. love that you have them either la cut out letters from magazines doing the demanding or a voice modulator. Or just an opportunistic guy that saw somebody else dumping gators and decided to try to make good on it. This could be good for my taxes. you be This could be great for my taxes. And that's right. The other person only had three gators they needed to dump.

Speaker: But how could they know? They didn't know that person was going to release one gator every week. You expect me to pay a premium on this property. This property? When it's littered with gators. Wowzy with gators.

Speaker: Lousy. Someone that doesn't know anything. is Massapequa nice area? ah Yeah, Massapequa is lovely. What a gang to be a part of. Just the gator or gang.

Speaker: a her hoof i love you. gotta look this up because I we i took care of a gator. He probably wasn't 20 years old when I met him. Imagine when or junior when you met him. If a Junior is one of the rescued Massapequa Lake gators.

Speaker: It's possible. they were they were said to Louisiana. Well, the ones they caught. Why does that feel racist? Against gators? Yeah. I don't know. If you were an alligator, would you rather go to New Orleans or would you rather go to Florida?

Speaker: Those are my two options. Mm-hmm. ah Where would I rather go? um I honestly, I guess Florida. um Because I know that they have like they have Algarve Alley, they have the Everglades. So I think they're shocking to say probably I'm going to guess more more protected in Florida than Louisiana, where they absolutely have gator farms, which I know I've been to.

Speaker: Yeah. And that's just that's the same as like this wine industry. Yeah, that is true. they eat They eat more gator in Louisiana. after From what I learned, and I want to say, were you... Did you get to go to lsc for that student AVMA trip all them years ago?

Speaker: Yeah, bud, we were there. ah yeah I think we all went. Well, well i I just remember going on like the pilot boat. I didn't go to like a farm Yeah, that counts. Yeah. What I was informed was that...

Speaker: Gator's not really a food delicacy. It's more of a byproduct of the gator farming industry for their prefer their hides, ah leather trade. And then it's like, well, what are you going do with all these gator heads and meat? Like, well, we'll sell them at gift shops and we're going to put them in sausage and ah tell people it's a fun thing to do. And I've enjoyed eating gator on a few rare occasions, but yeah had my first i think it's a con.

Speaker: It is a little bit of a con. I had my first crawfish on that trip. At the crawfish boil that we went to and it was delicious. still think about it. still think about that. I've been to many a crawfish boil ever since.

Speaker: so Well,

Speaker: that's the end. That's the end. We did the dang thing. All right, guys. Well, we just spilled the kibble. See you later, alligators. e The toy. Thank you so much for listening.
