Introduction and Topic Overview

00:00:01
Speaker
Hello and welcome to From Dublin to Cleveland. I am Logan Howard. I am your host today. I am driving in the car by myself.
00:00:12
Speaker
And but we're going to be doing today is we're going to be doing a deep dive into the most popular trend that's going on now, which is the phrase, and I hate to say it as a teacher, but six seven So to be discussing what is 6-7, where to come from, what is the meaning behind some of it, and is it something that we as Christians maybe should be partaking in?
00:00:43
Speaker
um What should we be doing with this?
00:00:49
Speaker
with this thing.

Brendan's Absence and Event Commitment

00:00:50
Speaker
So, um, before we get into all of that, uh, I do want to let you know where Brendan is today. He is out on assignment. Um, he is, um working with, uh, his revival, irish Irish revival this weekend. It will be Saturday, uh, in Ireland. Um, and so if you are in the area of Ireland or Britain or have the ability to get to Ireland quickly,
00:01:19
Speaker
Brendan would love to see you. It's an Irish revival, but all are welcome. There's a lot of stuff going on, and he will be doing all of the behind-the-scenes and in-front-of-scenes stuff. So if you are interested, please come to the Irish revival, which will be happening again. That is Saturday, ah the, I guess, Irish time, 11.
00:01:48
Speaker
uh, AM will start and it'll be an all day thing. So buckle up, prepare for that.

Origins and Background of the 6-7 Trend

00:01:53
Speaker
But that's where Brendan's at. He is working hard on that. And so be praying. If you can't make it to his revival, uh, to the Irish revival, please be in prayer for Brendan.
00:02:04
Speaker
Um, because you know, with any of these kinds of stuff, we all, we all need prayer to make it happen. So, into our discussion today, which will be on the numbers 6 and 7.
00:02:19
Speaker
So, is something that if you work with children of any age, especially those in middle school, this is a thing they say, and there's a hand gesture with it. It's like you're juggling, that you go up and down. As you say, So, that's...
00:02:38
Speaker
that's what it is. um It is... the The meaning behind it is pretty nebulous. um And nebulous meaning it it doesn't have a really finite definition.
00:02:51
Speaker
But it comes from... It was created originally by a rapper. He created this song that was called Doot Doot

Spread and Cultural Implications of the 6-7 Trend

00:03:01
Speaker
6-7. And it is and it is a
00:03:08
Speaker
this This rapper's name is Skrilla. And his his backstory and where he's from is pretty dark in its intention. So he belongs to a religion um that is called Sa... Sa...
00:03:33
Speaker
so S-A-C, um, it's Sacre, Sacaria or something like that. i' probably pronouncing it poorly, but Sacaria, this, this belief system, um, founded back in Africa as, uh, and it was a mixture of Roman Catholicism and the witchcraft that they were, um,
00:04:03
Speaker
I guess, living in and participating in. So this is created all the way back then. This was all the way back towards the early Roman Catholic days.
00:04:15
Speaker
But they tried to combine the two, basically combining the witchcraft with the Roman Catholicism as a way to hide that they were not actually... you know, worshiping God or worshiping the way the Roman Catholics did.
00:04:30
Speaker
So he is a staunch believer in this. He has gone on, you can find videos very quickly of him that talk about sacrificing goats, sacrificing animals.
00:04:44
Speaker
His songs have been i apparently used to call up spirits or demons. So this is a pretty sketchy situation that we are finding ourselves in, um, with this 6-7 thing. Uh, not necessarily that it's, that it is witchcraft, but, um...
00:05:08
Speaker
It's nebulous. It's also stated that the 670s referring to could be 67th Street, which is in Chicago. And in the song, he talks about murdering people and stealing and all of the drugs. All that stuff is stuff that his music is all about. So, again, not really great things that you want your 7, 8, 9-year-old son.

Dangers of Internet Culture on Children

00:05:36
Speaker
involved let alone know about, even though I understand we live in America, we live in a world where those things are reality, and you do want to talk about those things in a and a healthy environment, but I don't know that you want a guy named Skrilla telling you about those things.
00:05:56
Speaker
So that's where this originates. As this goes from here, what his music started getting put to was a basketball player by the name of Lomelo Ball. Lomelo Ball is a basketball player. He currently plays for the Cavaliers. So here in Cleveland, where I'm from, he plays there. And so what was doing, it was added to his his player highlights. He is stands at the size or is measured at six foot seven.
00:06:25
Speaker
Um, so sorry, Lamello plays for the Hornets. Lonzo, his brother, plays the Hornets. So I have to get those corrected for you, but, um, he's six foot seven.
00:06:41
Speaker
And so all of his highlights of basketball highlights was put to this Skrilla music of dude, dude, six, seven. Um, so that's where it started. After that, it starts to turn into a meme.
00:06:51
Speaker
People start to think it's funny. You get a kid called the 6'7 kid who shows up on the scene. And so it starts to snowball into this thing that is on all of the the memes and jokes.
00:07:04
Speaker
And so that's why kids like to say it, because it's funny. And it's, so then people started turning it into the, this meme of, uh, oh, I don't know what it is, six or seven.
00:07:17
Speaker
and And so now everybody does that and everybody laughs at it and thinks it's funny. Um, as a teacher, it is not funny. It's annoying because it, it doesn't mean anything.
00:07:30
Speaker
Um, if you look up the definition of what it means, it's just a nebulous meaning. Um, it could mean the number six, it could be the number seven, it could be the number 67. It doesn't have a finite meaning. It is a, it is a word that is just created and made up.
00:07:45
Speaker
Um, to add on top of this, uh, I believe dictionary.com made it the word of the year. so this thing is not going away quickly.
00:07:56
Speaker
Um,
00:07:59
Speaker
So, where where do we as Christians stand on this? What should be our opinion? First of all, I don't think just because things are necessarily annoying, do we have to just ban them? No, not necessarily.
00:08:12
Speaker
I think annoyance is is an element to say, you know I don't really like this word or whatever. And again, you're allowed not to like things. But annoying annoyance, frustration, that's that's a thing that differs between everybody.
00:08:29
Speaker
I think the thing that we need to be careful of as a society is this whole meme and internet culture. um I think it's a representative of how much our kids are online and how much they that their brains are being manipulated by the internet.
00:08:53
Speaker
they don't really know that this is not funny. It's just a number. It's two numbers.

Truth Perception and Guiding Youth

00:08:59
Speaker
They're numbers we use every day. in math class, we use these numbers every day. They show up, um, and very frequently.
00:09:07
Speaker
So it's just a number. it it, a number, has a meaning as, as a place. And what they're What the danger of this could be and the ramifications of it is, I guess most importantly, our kids are so online that this is a thing that the kids know.
00:09:25
Speaker
That's a danger. Because that means that kids understand things that we, as parents, as teachers, had no recollection of at their age.
00:09:38
Speaker
You know, I think of my growing up, I didn't really get much internet or computer access until I was 14, 15 years old. That's when it started to really kick off and my parents got them.
00:09:50
Speaker
I know how disastrous that was for me, being able to ah search things on the internet that I shouldn't have been able to search for. and it meant that my parents had to do a lot more gar gatekeeping than they were used to before.
00:10:08
Speaker
But here we live now in 2025 and our kids who are seven, eight years old have access to the wide web. So yes, it is just a song. It is just a number.
00:10:23
Speaker
But I think it's a a darker sign of if the kids can get to this message of from a guy who made a song called do Dude Dude 6'7", who is a guy who is not...
00:10:37
Speaker
not a Christian, practices witchcraft, they consider Jesus as the great sorcerer because he did miracles. that That's all they see Jesus as. and so To narrow him down to that and to call him a sorcerer is messed up at best.
00:10:57
Speaker
So that's the mess that we have here is that these kids are being so indoctrinated and cultured by the internet that I remember when I was growing up, going outside was a thing we did all the time. i would always be outside playing.
00:11:12
Speaker
And we played sports. We played basketball. I played basketball by myself. I would be all ten players on the court. Kids don't do that anymore. Kids are now on their devices as soon as they get home from school.
00:11:25
Speaker
And then some schools have them on devices at school. So it's like this the Internet is so... involved in this group of kids, and I'm concerned as to what the ramifications of that all means. And access at a young age to drugs or knowing what drugs are and what they do, guns, violence, all of this kind of stuff is concerning.
00:11:53
Speaker
Pornography, sexual stuff, all of this is dangerous in... In our eyes, it's a sin as a Christian, but it's dangerous.
00:12:06
Speaker
there There's some heavy costs to pay to this, and the kids are seeing it as, well, it's it's just a thing we sing about. It's just ah a ridiculous thing, and maybe even the parents aren't even discussing this stuff or why it's wrong.
00:12:22
Speaker
And so it's it's planting in these young kids what's right or wrong. And now, again, you might be saying and listening to this and going, Logan, you're just being so overdramatic about just two numbers.
00:12:35
Speaker
And I get it, right? but um And I get your opinion, right? yeah I might be a little bit extra dramatic, but as ah as a believer, as somebody who loves God,
00:12:48
Speaker
Why are we letting our kids be influenced by the world? Why are we letting that the world dictate what our kids learn, what they say, the stuff that comes out of their mouths?
00:13:00
Speaker
We wonder why we have so much attitude and get stuff like bad attitudes back from them. It's because they're not made for this. This wasn't the way children and people were not made to be live 95% to your life inside We are created by God to be in his nature and to experience it. And we don't. we don't spend time outside. It doesn't happen. We're always inside, always doing something to try and keep ourselves busy. We live this rat race. And truthfully, our kids are going to suffer in the long run.
00:13:35
Speaker
And... It's going to be going to be a dark time. And and really, our kids are they're the future. If we want the gospel to go forth, we can only spread the gospel as long as we're alive.
00:13:48
Speaker
That's it. And so unless we build the next generation of kids, whether we have our own kids or we don't, if until we invest in that next generation, we're going to... We're gonna struggle to keep Christianity going. and that's not to say that that it's our job specifically. It is God's and the Holy Spirit's power to do that. But he does call us and use us. And if we're not the ones out there actively leading, influencing, discipling these these kids, where are they going to find truth?

Christian Perspective on Internet Influence

00:14:20
Speaker
they're not They're not going to find truth. They're going to find lies. So something to think about with this whole this whole thing. i um On top of it, not just this how much access our kids have.
00:14:34
Speaker
um this This numbering doesn't have anything, like there's no finite meaning. There's no definitive, this is what it means. It's so nebulous. And really, isn't that a synopsis for our culture?
00:14:48
Speaker
Everything is your truth. You determine what is true. you determine what is right. I get, I get that thrown. um I've had that thrown back at me lately as well. You know that's, that's your truth or whatever.
00:15:03
Speaker
It's not. there There is things that are true that are constant. There are things and opinions that I believe are true that might be completely untrue, but, um, but there are things that are factually true, right?
00:15:18
Speaker
Um,
00:15:21
Speaker
It is true that the world is curved. It's round. We can see it by pictures. We can see it by magnetic fields. it It's true.
00:15:32
Speaker
It's a truth. It's a true fact. But yet some will debate that and say it's not true. it It's true that we were made for a creator. We were made to be in relationship with God. People will debate that.
00:15:47
Speaker
It's true that there is one God. That is a true fact. But people will debate it, right? All of these things that we just keep going down that people will debate.
00:15:58
Speaker
And I think that's a that's a danger. If we start letting things mean nothing or that they can mean whatever you want them to mean...
00:16:12
Speaker
If that means what's to stop us then from what we've where we've gone as a culture and as a country in America to, well, if six can mean seven, and I can be a boy or right And I know you might be saying it's a bit of a leap, but as soon as you start saying that there isn't a definitive meaning of something, we know there are male and female. That's where you're created.
00:16:39
Speaker
Sorry. It's the truth. There isn't 38,000 genders. It is one or the other. so As we sit here and as we we talk about this just word and meaning that means nothing is, doesn't that open you then up to all of this other mumbo jumbo? And on top of it, let's let's get to the third point. Third point's my weakest point, but I don't understand why even this appeals to kids.
00:17:12
Speaker
I don't understand the humor and the funniness of saying those two numbers. It's not really that funny. Again, we don't have a meaning. Um, I understand that kids find things funny that we as adults probably don't see as funny.
00:17:25
Speaker
Um... Maybe it's their their innocence and their humor and whatnot. But what we're doing with this is stealing that. With the internet issue, with making things not mean something specific, that's the whole purpose we have schools is to teach kids some basics.
00:17:45
Speaker
We teach the basics. We teach them how to do math. We teach them how to understand things. as soon as we start teaching them that, well, six could be seven or seven could be six, we're...
00:17:57
Speaker
We're mixing things up. And again, this all of this to say, this is not um this is not me trying to build a list of of why 6.7 should be burned and destroyed and gotten rid of. i want you to I want you to take this information and I want you as the listener to form your own opinions.
00:18:21
Speaker
i'm I'm giving you thoughts and questions to think about. Um, so, uh, I wanted to continue this discussion. This is not a, uh, Logan thinks this way, so it has to only be this way. If you have thoughts, if you have, um, what, if you think it's, it's innocuous, let me know. What is your reasoning behind it? Why do you think it, it's, it's a fun thing or a good thing for our kids and for even ourselves to appreciate and enjoy?
00:18:47
Speaker
Um,
00:18:50
Speaker
Let me know. So send me a letter. Send me a note at fromdoublin2cleveland at gmail.com that let me know what you think about it. I want to keep this open. I know that we live in a culture that can be pretty critical and analytical and try to like refute and argue. i'm not I'm not here for an argument.
00:19:11
Speaker
If you want to discuss, you want to talk about it, I'm always open to talk about it. So send me an email fromdoublin2cleveland at gmail.com. Um, as we wrap up, right, as we, as we close, uh, I want to take us to a verse.
00:19:30
Speaker
Um, again, I'm still, still on my drive home, but I want to take you to a verse. Uh, and this is a verse in my head. It's not, uh, it's a verse I've been working through with our kids at school.

Biblical Reflection and Faith Sincerity

00:19:42
Speaker
Um, And it's Matthew chapter 8 verses 19 and 20.
00:19:52
Speaker
And I want you to know I'm being safe. This is a verse that I am memorizing in my my head. It's not not that I'm looking it up as I'm driving home. So don't think I'm am using my phone to look this.
00:20:09
Speaker
But...
00:20:12
Speaker
So it's Matthew 8, verses 19 through 20, and it says this. A certain scribe came to Jesus, and he said, said, i will go with you wherever you go, Lord. And Jesus responds, foxes have holes, birds have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.
00:20:33
Speaker
And what this specific verse is talking about is that we have...
00:20:43
Speaker
jesus jesus is Jesus knows this guy's heart, right? Why would you ever respond to somebody and say something like something innocuous like foxes and birds and nowhere to lay your head, right?
00:20:55
Speaker
That's what he says and that's what he mentions. Why would he respond to somebody who says, I'll go with you wherever you want, wherever you go. Why would he respond this way if he didn't see something see something in the scribe's heart?
00:21:12
Speaker
Normally we would say if somebody says we'll follow you with wherever you go, you go, yeah, sweet, I got a supporter, let's go. Right? that's That's what we normally do. But here Jesus is saying, I don't have a home.
00:21:29
Speaker
His foxes have homes, birds have homes. I have nowhere to lay my head. i don't have a home. So to me, that seems to logic out that Jesus is saying this guy is after something more than just following Jesus.
00:21:46
Speaker
He's actually after a home, a house, a physical items. And he sees Jesus as a way to get those. He sees Jesus as a political revolutionary. He sees him as a leader who might even take over...
00:22:00
Speaker
all of june the Jewish culture. And so he's like, you know what? I'm getting on this board quick. I'm going to follow this guy, and it's going to lead me to riches untold. It's going to lead me to a home that I can build on this earth.
00:22:11
Speaker
And Jesus says, look, I'm not about that. I'm not here to build on this earth.

Closing Prayer and Christian Values

00:22:19
Speaker
I'm here to call people here home to my heaven, to my heaven, to heaven.
00:22:27
Speaker
So,
00:22:29
Speaker
Yeah, we we think about that verse and we're like, that seems like a really weird thing to say, but Jesus knows people's hearts. And so with that, but that I want you to think about Jesus knows your heart.
00:22:41
Speaker
He knows your intentions. He knows your meanings. He knows your your thoughts behind what you say what you're doing. And he He knows. You're not going to get away from him.
00:22:56
Speaker
And if your heart is in the right place, knows that. He knows what's going on. Even if you're struggling, even if you're making mistakes, if your heart is truly doing it because you're concerned about others and you're concerned about the gospel and it going forth, God will bless your work.
00:23:14
Speaker
He...
00:23:19
Speaker
He wants us to understand that he knows what's going on. he's He's not unaware. He's not like Elijah claimed of the prophets of Baal and Baal himself, that he's going to the bathroom or sleeping or any of those kind of stuff. He he wants us to know that that God is there. He knows. He understands our needs.
00:23:47
Speaker
Um... He loves us and he cares for us more than ah we we even know. So, as we wrap up from there, i do want to close us in prayer and then i will lead us or i'll I'll give you some things to look into.
00:24:06
Speaker
So, my shout out to the week. So, let's close in prayer. Again, I'm praying with my eyes open so don't think I'm trying to end up dead on the side of the road.
00:24:18
Speaker
Anyway, Jesus, thank you for this day. Lord, am thankful for those who listened to this today. I know that they were probably hoping to hear from Brendan and hear what's going on with him. and So, Lord, we we know that he's out doing his revival this this weekend. I pray that would bless it as he gets all the details prepped and everything put together.
00:24:39
Speaker
May it be a blessing to him and not only him but his... Those of his believers and those who follow not only support the ministry, but believers who are with Brandon and are part of his group.
00:24:57
Speaker
Lord, we know that they are yours, and so we pray that you would just bless them in their ministry. Lord, we pray for Irish revival, that you would revive their nation, would revive, as we talked about the last few episodes,
00:25:08
Speaker
their political world, that, Lord, you would cause some changes in their republic and that people would come back to you in droves and they would see their need of you.
00:25:22
Speaker
Lord, we pray for... those who are listening. Pray that you'd continue to bless them as well. Help them as they listen to today and as they go throughout their days to walk with you, to take time and enjoy the fresh air that you have given and the creation that you have given.
00:25:41
Speaker
Lord, we know that your your creation heals our souls. And Lord, we just pray that you would allow that to do that today. Allow them to slow down from their hurried, busy pace and to be able to to relax and enjoy and breathe in you.
00:26:01
Speaker
Lord, we I know for me, I sacrifice ah lot of my time and my life into what is most efficient instead of doing but is what is right in your eyes. And sometimes what's right is slowing down and and enjoying your creation.
00:26:21
Speaker
So i pray that you help us to do that. Lord, help us to remember that we're not out to get stuff from you, that we... Everything we need is in you, but it's not to get earthly gains.
00:26:35
Speaker
We don't follow Jesus to get stuff of money, gold, possessions here on earth. We follow you because you've done so much for us, for your deep love and your care for us, and we want to be with you forever.
00:26:47
Speaker
Help us to continue to build our relationships with you and to love you more and more. Pray that again you'd bless all those that hear this and that you would help them to love you all their days.

Shout-outs and Final Thoughts

00:26:59
Speaker
and Jesus name. Amen. All right. As we close, I've got two shout outs for you this week.
00:27:09
Speaker
Shout out. Number one is of course we did it at the beginning and we're doing at the end.
00:27:17
Speaker
is Brendan's revival. Again, be in prayer this weekend for it. God can do some awesome things, not only through Brendan, but for those who from Open House Ministries and those he works with, that they would be able to encourage people to accept Christ their Savior, that they would help people to repent of their wicked ways, to denounce the ways they've been living and and serve Jesus and turn their hearts to Him. that they it would grow their ministry, and it would grow in Ireland this revival and need for Jesus Christ.
00:27:52
Speaker
So be praying for that this weekend. If you can make it and you can go and support Brendan in that, i would love if you'd be able to do that. But if you can't, be in prayer as much as you can, because prayer is extremely valuable.
00:28:06
Speaker
So be praying for Brendan in this revival. My shout-out this week is I want you to look into the author John Eldridge.
00:28:20
Speaker
Once again, that's John Eldridge. He has written so many books that help in our walk and ability to see God, appreciate God, get to know God more.
00:28:34
Speaker
Um, the, the book that I would recommend that you read first from him is Wild at Heart. Um, I know there's a, a similar one, a similar one that's written for women.
00:28:45
Speaker
Um, so if you're looking into that, it's written by his wife, Stacy Eldridge. but for guys, definitely look at Wild at Heart. Um, and it's how we're supposed to have this, um,
00:28:57
Speaker
this being wild. not Not that we're wild to the point that we're crazy and we're evil and we're chaotic, but wild in terms of we're We're not supposed to be sterile and safe and, you know, afraid and fearful. We're we're supposed to to live life, to enjoy it, to stretch out and grow and find Christ in that.
00:29:25
Speaker
Because God has made this world for us to enjoy. It's not so that we just ignore it and live inside all It's so we can enjoy appreciate it. We can go out into the wild because honestly, a lot of where when my heart is is messed up, it's because i'm not taking time to get into creation and enjoy it.
00:29:48
