Introduction and Podcast Format
00:00:06
Speaker
Thanks for tuning in to the Loser Kid Pinball Podcast.
00:00:09
Speaker
With me, my co-host, as always... Scott Larson.
00:00:13
Speaker
And Scott, we're changing things up a little bit.
00:00:15
Speaker
I want you to kind of run it by everyone.
Sponsorship and Shoutouts
00:00:18
Speaker
Yeah, so we have friends of the show.
00:00:21
Speaker
We've been talking about them for a long time.
00:00:23
Speaker
We're going to focus on the sponsor of the show, but then we'll give a shout-out.
00:00:28
Speaker
So we'll do like one feature thing.
00:00:30
Speaker
In this way, it mixes it up a little bit, and that way people don't just...
00:00:36
Speaker
they can glean two nuggets of information that are important to the show.
00:00:40
Speaker
And then we can move on to the information.
00:00:42
Speaker
So let's start out with the show sponsor, flipping out pinball, Zach and Nicole, many, they just upgraded to full status.
00:00:52
Speaker
This is what he does.
00:00:54
Speaker
Give, give them a shout out.
00:00:56
Speaker
If you want to pick up that new game and maybe there was a game that was just released that you should check out.
00:01:02
Speaker
So check out Zach and Nicole at flipping out pinball.
00:01:06
Speaker
And just a quick shout out, if you want to learn how to do it, go ahead and check out Ray Day Pinball.
00:01:12
Speaker
Ray's a great all-around guy and he knows a little bit about pinball being the world's number one player.
Guest Introduction: Tim Lee
00:01:18
Speaker
And he works for Stern, so all-around good guy.
00:01:21
Speaker
So, Josh, who do we have on the show today?
00:01:24
Speaker
So this gentleman has been in and out of the hobby for a little while now.
00:01:29
Speaker
You can find him on different various shows, like Poor Man's Pinball Podcast, The Pinball Nerds.
00:01:39
Speaker
I know that Orby doesn't like to call it a podcast, but The Pinball Nerds, which sadly has retired, is
00:01:45
Speaker
And I don't know about if you've ever messaged this man, he is just wholesome and awesome.
00:01:51
Speaker
I highly recommend you send him a message right now because I know you're listening, but we want to introduce Tim Lee.
Tim Lee's New Segment: Tribe Multiball
00:01:57
Speaker
Hey guys, how are you?
00:02:00
Speaker
Tim is, Tim is graciously staying up a little past his bedtime since he is two hours later and we record at night.
00:02:07
Speaker
So we appreciate you staying up late with us.
00:02:10
Speaker
So anything new going on in Tim's life?
00:02:16
Speaker
I started a podcast that's sort of a segment, a branch of the Poor Men's Pinball Podcast called Tribe Multiball with Rachel and Tim.
00:02:29
Speaker
I put an order in on a pinball machine earlier.
00:02:32
Speaker
We can talk about that later.
00:02:35
Speaker
And honestly, just taking care of
Mandalorian Pinball Machine Excitement
00:02:37
Speaker
I'm a track and field coach and my son runs track and field and I've been heavily involved in track and field for the last four to six weeks.
00:02:47
Speaker
So a lot of family stuff going on right now.
00:02:50
Speaker
Well, let's get into it, Josh.
00:02:53
Speaker
Today is the day, the long awaited day when the Mandalorian was announced officially and they teased it last week.
00:03:02
Speaker
So let's talk about it.
00:03:04
Speaker
This is the reason why we're here.
00:03:05
Speaker
So first off, Tim, what's your initial feeling on the theme, the Mandalorian?
00:03:13
Speaker
I enjoy the Mandalorian, but my family had
00:03:17
Speaker
a fantastic reaction to the theme.
00:03:21
Speaker
It's probably the only theme where my family went crazy when I told them that there was a Mandalorian themed pinball machine coming out.
00:03:30
Speaker
We watched the show as a family, so I was excited, but my family is really excited.
00:03:38
Speaker
So Josh, what about you?
00:03:40
Speaker
I actually like the Mandalorian more than the Back to the Future movie.
00:03:45
Speaker
And so I was actually kind of glad to see this theme.
00:03:47
Speaker
Don't get me wrong.
00:03:47
Speaker
Like, Back to the Future is good and all.
00:03:49
Speaker
I just, this is a step up, in my opinion.
00:03:54
Speaker
It's funny because I wasn't really looking to buy another pinball machine anytime soon.
00:03:58
Speaker
I didn't know Mandalorian would be on my radar.
00:04:00
Speaker
It was more like I had to watch and see.
00:04:03
Speaker
I really like Brian Eddy's stuff.
00:04:05
Speaker
So I figured, might as well see what happens and go from there.
00:04:08
Speaker
So I'm pleasantly surprised with the reveal.
00:04:12
Speaker
I know it's not...
00:04:13
Speaker
what everyone was thinking, I guess.
00:04:16
Speaker
I just, I feel like there's, we haven't really seen a play field that moves up and down like that.
00:04:22
Speaker
A mini play field.
00:04:22
Speaker
Hey, hey, hey, hey, don't, don't jump to the end.
00:04:26
Speaker
We won't jump to the end then.
00:04:29
Speaker
But no, I think my initial reaction was I'm pretty excited for it.
00:04:32
Speaker
It's pretty cool to see, especially a theme that's not even licensed.
00:04:38
Speaker
Well, Grand Star Wars has been around for 40 years, but The Mandalorian itself has only been around for two.
00:04:48
Speaker
This is one of those themes that is current.
00:04:53
Speaker
And it is, it's a huge streaming cultural experience that people have been able to access the Star Wars universe where they haven't.
00:05:05
Speaker
I think the last three movies, they,
00:05:11
Speaker
It seemed like the last three movies were more for... It's the Star Wars for people who don't like Star Wars.
00:05:20
Speaker
Do you know what I mean?
00:05:23
Speaker
If you look at the Rotten Tomatoes review of The Last Jedi, which is quite polarizing among Star Wars fans, I would say that Star Wars fans hated the movie.
00:05:36
Speaker
They didn't like grumpy Luke.
00:05:38
Speaker
They didn't like getting a little more into the politics of war.
00:05:45
Speaker
And it took it to a different space other than, hey, this is your stereotypical fairy tale.
00:05:53
Speaker
It's good versus evil, right, wrong.
00:05:57
Speaker
And that's what my generation who grew up with the original Star Wars, that's what we keyed into.
00:06:06
Speaker
So it was, I would say, a good movie, but it didn't feel like the Star Wars movie.
00:06:13
Speaker
It felt like a big departure.
00:06:14
Speaker
However, The Mandalorian, it felt Star Wars.
Mandalorian Pinball Development and Impact
00:06:19
Speaker
It felt very much like this is something that connects with people who are both outside of the Star Wars fan club and inside of the Star Wars fan club.
00:06:30
Speaker
And so I would say the theme is a home run.
00:06:33
Speaker
Uh, and I, I'm, I'm really glad it's not back to the future.
00:06:36
Speaker
Uh, if they did back to the future, they could only do the first movie because the other two are trash.
00:06:43
Speaker
Um, that the other two should be Saturday night life skits.
00:06:46
Speaker
So, um, yeah, they kind of, it's almost a little parody with Michael J. Fox playing multiple characters.
00:06:55
Speaker
It, it felt a little bit like a wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
00:06:59
Speaker
Hey, look what we can do.
00:07:02
Speaker
But other than the 20 minutes in the future on the second one, the other two parts are completely forgettable.
00:07:11
Speaker
So that's my take on the theme.
00:07:15
Speaker
Did it surprise you at all?
00:07:17
Speaker
It surprised me on some level because I felt this is a home run theme, but they would have had to jump on this really early in the development cycle.
00:07:28
Speaker
The development cycle takes about 15 months, and that's really in the middle of the first season of The Mandalorian.
00:07:36
Speaker
So that surprised me just by the timeline.
00:07:38
Speaker
No, I totally agree.
00:07:40
Speaker
I think that's the hesitation I had too.
00:07:43
Speaker
When Mandalorian started floating around, I'm like, you guys realize I did the math and it seriously would have been only four episodes in when they gave the green light on the episode or on the license.
00:07:56
Speaker
Granted, Mandalorian is a huge hit.
00:08:01
Speaker
I just sent you the numbers.
00:08:02
Speaker
I didn't send them to Tim, but I sent them to Scott last week.
00:08:05
Speaker
The Mandalorian rivals The Office in minutes viewed via streaming, which is insane because Office has 200 episodes.
00:08:16
Speaker
Mandalorian only has 16.
00:08:17
Speaker
That was taken at the end of January around the season finale time.
00:08:22
Speaker
So obviously you're going to have pumped numbers, but still, this TV show is a powerhouse.
00:08:28
Speaker
And the other thing I'm thinking about too is
00:08:31
Speaker
You think of the old TV licenses that they've done, CSI, 24.
00:08:36
Speaker
Back in the day, they have X-Files.
00:08:38
Speaker
They have Game of Thrones.
00:08:40
Speaker
There's another one.
00:08:42
Speaker
So the thing with a lot of these themes is I feel like you're trying to capture lightning in a bottle.
00:08:47
Speaker
because you're trying to at least get the success of the TV show during its peak.
00:08:53
Speaker
So you're trying to capitalize on while it's hot before it becomes cool, right?
00:08:57
Speaker
And if you look at these previous licenses, there's not anything that just screams.
00:09:01
Speaker
And by cool, you mean like it's old, right?
00:09:04
Speaker
That was so last year.
00:09:05
Speaker
That was two years ago.
00:09:09
Speaker
And you look at these, they're not bad pinball machines, but you go CSI, really?
00:09:16
Speaker
Okay, they're bad pinball machines.
00:09:19
Speaker
CSI and X-Files, they're terrible.
00:09:23
Speaker
But the thing with The Mandalorian is it's got Star Wars backing it, so it becomes timeless because Star Wars has been relevant for the last 40 years.
00:09:33
Speaker
So I think it's a title that will age well where other titles have not that are TV themes.
00:09:43
Speaker
And like I stated earlier, it's the first theme that I've ever seen my family go crazy over.
00:09:50
Speaker
And if you remember when The Mandalorian first came out, just those first three or four episodes, people went nuts over Baby Yoda.
00:09:58
Speaker
And, you know, people loved it.
00:10:01
Speaker
I feel like it set a record for the most streamed TV show that was specifically made for streaming.
00:10:09
Speaker
I think it's since been broken.
00:10:12
Speaker
But I think it's a timeless, you know, theme as well.
00:10:17
Speaker
Anybody that likes Star Wars likes the show.
00:10:20
Speaker
I agree with Scott that it has that old school Star Wars feeling.
00:10:25
Speaker
You know, it captured my boys because it has stormtroopers and all the fun stuff that Star Wars has in the show.
00:10:32
Speaker
My daughter loves Baby Yoda or I think it's Rogu or Grogu is the actual name.
00:10:40
Speaker
And I enjoy Star Wars as well.
00:10:42
Speaker
So it captured my entire family's attention.
00:10:47
Speaker
But it's Star Wars.
00:10:49
Speaker
I think every Star Wars machine has sold probably a lot of pinball machines.
00:10:57
Speaker
Yeah, and the theme alone is great.
00:10:59
Speaker
But you are right in that it is capturing it while it's relevant.
00:11:04
Speaker
And the fact that even though there are more things coming,
00:11:09
Speaker
I feel that they'll be able to integrate a little more into it considering the first two seasons are almost kind of a complete set.
00:11:19
Speaker
Like they are going to have, they've talked about having three more seasons, but it doesn't feel like you're getting the first six episodes and then there's so much more.
00:11:28
Speaker
It actually feels like, no, you can get a complete story with this.
00:11:33
Speaker
Well, I'm going to try to point something out really quick that, um,
00:11:37
Speaker
I hope is not a spoiler via the pinball machine or the TV show.
00:11:42
Speaker
But if you look at the right sling plastic, Luke Skywalker is on the plastic.
00:11:48
Speaker
So it's all the way through to the very end of season two.
00:11:53
Speaker
So that's why I'm like, what were they just deciding, hey, we're going to do this.
00:11:58
Speaker
And I just I'm kind of boggled by the whole licensing thing.
00:12:03
Speaker
I wish we could get information.
00:12:05
Speaker
I highly doubt they're going to give us any information on their licensing and how they do it.
00:12:09
Speaker
But I'm like, really, like, how did they pull this off?
00:12:12
Speaker
I'm really wanting to know.
00:12:14
Speaker
Yeah, that's interesting because they're notoriously jealous about their license, Disney slash Star Wars, especially Star Wars, in that working with their brand.
00:12:27
Speaker
And I understand when you have a brand that's iconic like that, there's a reason why it's iconic is because you're trying to present it in a certain way.
00:12:37
Speaker
And that's challenging.
00:12:38
Speaker
We all know about the R2-D2 topper that took forever to get out.
00:12:44
Speaker
So, you know, this will be interesting to see how they were able to work within those constraints.
00:12:49
Speaker
If they're able to work within those constraints, I will point out as Jon Favreau did in doing the Mandalorian, then you can have a home run.
00:12:59
Speaker
Do you think that, you know, the animations will have Luke Skywalker in them?
00:13:04
Speaker
You know, I saw the sling as well and I thought, oh, they put Luke Skywalker on there.
00:13:10
Speaker
But I wondered, did they have enough time to incorporate him or some of the other characters in season two into the show?
00:13:18
Speaker
Because when I was looking at the artwork, I believe the one lady was kind of missing from the artwork.
00:13:24
Speaker
And that could be a licensing thing.
00:13:26
Speaker
I forget the character's name.
00:13:27
Speaker
I think it was Kara.
00:13:31
Speaker
I noticed that she wasn't on there because we just recently watched the second season again.
00:13:38
Speaker
Yeah, it's, well, we all know it's challenging, right?
00:13:41
Speaker
It's challenging when you mix, um, when you mix actors, uh, backstories and their personal lives into, into something.
00:13:53
Speaker
And I'm not going to do a deep dive into this.
00:13:57
Speaker
I would argue that if you do a deep dive into the personal lives of a lot of actors, there's probably going to be a lot more you don't have in common with them than you do.
00:14:08
Speaker
But to pretend that their public personal life doesn't affect their marketability, I would say is naive.
00:14:18
Speaker
And so I'm not going to dig too much into her story, pros or cons, but I will say that I'm sure that affected how featured she was or was not into the game.
00:14:34
Speaker
Well, I'll be honest with you.
00:14:35
Speaker
I didn't know anything happened with her because I don't read.
00:14:38
Speaker
the news articles on actors or actresses for that reason.
00:14:42
Speaker
I always tell my family, I said, I don't want to know about them.
00:14:46
Speaker
But she was a big part of the show and she's not on her at all.
00:14:50
Speaker
I actually brought it up thinking that they didn't have time to put her in.
00:14:56
Speaker
Well, no, what's funny too, is like, there are, like Scott was pointing out, there is characters that are far less in the TV series than she is.
00:15:05
Speaker
Well, Ahsoka is on the LE.
00:15:09
Speaker
And she's on into, you know, into, and she, I guarantee that spot, um, originally would have been Cara Dune.
00:15:19
Speaker
What is your feeling?
00:15:21
Speaker
Let's, let's go pro first.
00:15:22
Speaker
What's your feeling on the pro artwork?
00:15:24
Speaker
Okay, let's talk about the vibe first.
00:15:26
Speaker
This is my question.
00:15:27
Speaker
So this is the Randy Martinez art, which is very in keeping with what Star Wars wants to show as the cartoon version, right?
00:15:42
Speaker
Or the comic version, I guess, is what they want to call it.
00:15:45
Speaker
So this is different than having the original Star Wars when it had the
00:15:53
Speaker
The hand-drawn art, it was the same poses we were familiar with, but it was very recognizable artistic versions of it.
00:16:03
Speaker
So this version versus a comic book style version.
00:16:08
Speaker
So what is your preference?
00:16:10
Speaker
I prefer the comic book edition.
00:16:14
Speaker
I don't mind the hand-drawn art that's kind of from the movie.
00:16:19
Speaker
People like to say it's clip art, but it's not clip art.
00:16:22
Speaker
I don't mind that, but I really enjoy the comic book look.
00:16:27
Speaker
I liked the Star Wars comic art edition of the pinball machine, and I enjoy this look.
00:16:35
Speaker
I was really pleased with how it turned out.
00:16:39
Speaker
I concur with Tim.
00:16:41
Speaker
I really like the look of it.
00:16:43
Speaker
I don't know if I like the color scheme as much, but I do think overall I like this artwork more than the original Star Wars that came out.
00:16:54
Speaker
Well, original Stern Star Wars.
00:16:56
Speaker
I feel like this hand-drawn, not sharp edges and stuff like that.
00:17:02
Speaker
I think I like the premium artwork the most.
00:17:06
Speaker
I don't really like the pro cabinet.
00:17:09
Speaker
It's kind of goofy in my opinion.
00:17:11
Speaker
But other than that, I really think it's good looking.
00:17:15
Speaker
I feel like it's very, very typical Star Wars.
00:17:19
Speaker
I feel like if you were to take this artwork off of the back glass, if you were to take it off of here and put it as a poster, a Mandalorian movie poster, this would be your typical...
00:17:34
Speaker
There's always all the characters.
00:17:35
Speaker
They're in certain poses, kind of all fanned out behind each other.
00:17:40
Speaker
And that's what you got with this.
00:17:42
Speaker
I feel like it's very, very standard for Star Wars.
00:17:45
Speaker
What are your thoughts, Scott?
00:17:47
Speaker
I think it's very marketable.
Pinball Art and Marketing Discussion
00:17:50
Speaker
And I know that that's...
00:17:53
Speaker
I'm not trying to be insulting, but what I am saying is that it feels like a... They're going for a certain feel with it.
00:18:04
Speaker
I actually prefer the first Star Wars.
00:18:09
Speaker
I actually like the realistic art.
00:18:15
Speaker
I would prefer if you watch the movie or sorry, uh, the episodes, it actually goes through and it does like concept art, which I like it.
00:18:26
Speaker
It's, it's a little different.
00:18:28
Speaker
It's really well done.
00:18:32
Speaker
But they didn't go with that.
00:18:34
Speaker
They went with more of the comic book style.
00:18:36
Speaker
And so, although I think it's very functional, it certainly looks like the Mandalorian.
00:18:42
Speaker
It captures the feel of the Mandalorian, but it's just not the style that I prefer.
00:18:49
Speaker
Now, that being said, I like the I like the concept.
00:18:55
Speaker
I think the the premium cabinet, I do like that.
00:19:00
Speaker
That scene is a fun scene.
00:19:03
Speaker
The, the LE is nice because it has the razor crest on it, but, and I'm a little disappointed that they went with the, the mirrored sides where one side's exactly the same as the other on two of the three of them.
00:19:22
Speaker
I do like the dynamic aspect of the premium, but I think they all are, are a solid representation of the, the feel is, is correct.
00:19:33
Speaker
Well, and I know that Steve Ritchie kind of alluded this until the last interview that we just did.
00:19:41
Speaker
I just think that it's hard to do artwork for Disney and Star Wars.
00:19:46
Speaker
There's a certain vibe.
00:19:47
Speaker
There's a certain feel.
00:19:49
Speaker
I know that we've had other people on our show that have talked about this.
00:19:52
Speaker
This is an open secret, right?
00:19:56
Speaker
Disney tells you what they want it to look like.
00:19:59
Speaker
Even down to the color.
00:20:01
Speaker
They're like, this isn't the right color.
00:20:03
Speaker
We need a more blue or they need a less blue or whatever it is.
00:20:08
Speaker
And so I guess my expectation of artwork has been lessened because of that.
00:20:13
Speaker
And I don't know if I should expect more.
00:20:16
Speaker
But when it comes to Disney, I just don't expect a ton.
00:20:19
Speaker
I guess this always comes back to like Pirates of the Caribbean.
00:20:23
Speaker
the artwork was fine, but the assets were terrible for like movies and stuff like that.
00:20:28
Speaker
So I guess you kind of get what you get and you don't throw a fit right with Disney.
00:20:32
Speaker
If you want to play ball, you either play ball with them or they're going to take their, their assets and go home.
00:20:38
Speaker
And I don't mean this to sound, I'm not being dismissive of the art.
00:20:42
Speaker
I actually, again, I think it's a solid representation.
00:20:46
Speaker
If you look at the, at that, to any of the back glasses or the trans lights,
00:20:53
Speaker
Okay, now imagine in your mind going into Walmart in the children's section.
00:21:00
Speaker
And can you imagine a t-shirt with all of those on there?
00:21:08
Speaker
And that's really what I'm trying to say is it feels very marketable for the Mandalorian in that a lot of pinball art is very pinball centric.
00:21:19
Speaker
This feels marketing centric.
00:21:23
Speaker
I'm looking at turtles right now when you said that, and it's a completely different look and feel than the translate.
00:21:28
Speaker
So, and the t-shirt example makes perfect sense because I could see the premium on a t-shirt.
00:21:36
Speaker
I could see about a hundred kids wearing it tomorrow on a t-shirt.
00:21:41
Speaker
And that's not bad, by the way.
00:21:43
Speaker
I'm just saying that it's just a preference.
00:21:46
Speaker
Well, it's doing its job, though.
00:21:48
Speaker
The whole job of commercial artwork is for you wanting to buy it.
00:21:55
Speaker
You look at this premium.
00:21:56
Speaker
If you want to follow along, we're at This Week in Pinball.
00:22:00
Speaker
We're checking out their top article.
00:22:02
Speaker
So long as nothing has switched within the day that we release this, they did a deep dive.
00:22:07
Speaker
Jeff Patterson, this is a fantastic article.
00:22:10
Speaker
He did a great job.
00:22:12
Speaker
But seriously, like this, this, is it just the Mandalorian?
00:22:17
Speaker
I can't remember if he has any other name besides Mando.
00:22:22
Speaker
Mando is short for Mandalorian.
00:22:25
Speaker
But I'll, I'll look it up.
00:22:28
Speaker
Anywho, so he's walking away with Baby Yoda.
00:22:30
Speaker
There's explosions in the background.
00:22:32
Speaker
There's storm troopers on one side and the dark side.
00:22:36
Speaker
And then his team with Boba Fett and everyone else on the left side.
00:22:41
Speaker
And it just feels very, like you said, you could slap it on a T-shirt and you could probably sell it.
00:22:46
Speaker
And the kids would be wearing this at school tomorrow.
00:22:49
Speaker
Oh, that's interesting.
00:22:50
Speaker
I just pulled up IMDB and I know he's got a name, but it just says as as the Mandalorian.
00:23:04
Speaker
I know he has a name too.
00:23:07
Speaker
So I think we all agree artwork is good.
00:23:12
Speaker
It might not be perfect to some.
00:23:14
Speaker
It does the job for me.
00:23:16
Speaker
It's a preference, right?
00:23:17
Speaker
It's just a preference.
00:23:18
Speaker
There's nothing wrong with it.
00:23:19
Speaker
You don't have to justify it.
00:23:21
Speaker
In my opinion, I think the premium artwork is better than the Pro, which is funny because it's usually vice versa for me.
00:23:27
Speaker
I usually feel like the Pro, for some odd reason, has better artwork than the premium.
00:23:32
Speaker
I guess except for when it came to Avengers.
00:23:35
Speaker
I kind of like the Pro Translate better than the premium, but I like the premium cabinet and side art on the back box better.
00:23:43
Speaker
So you're telling me you're buying a premium, but then you're going to sneak into Stern and get a Pro Translate.
00:23:49
Speaker
I like the Pro Translate.
00:23:51
Speaker
I think it's actually pretty good.
00:23:53
Speaker
yep i i told my kids i'm going to try to get a hold of a pro translate and put it on premium well honestly they're like 100 bucks it's fine the color scheme they match each other it's not like you could take the uh le translate and put anything on on anything else but yeah i guarantee you could take that and slap it on slap it on the premium call it good i don't know i like them both i but i still think i still think i like the premium more i like i don't know cool guys walk away from explosions right i
00:24:22
Speaker
Now the LE, it feels like a complete package.
00:24:26
Speaker
It does feel like an LE.
00:24:29
Speaker
The challenge that they're going to have, and I understand why they painted it in a silver color, because that's the best car, right?
00:24:39
Speaker
And so that's supposed to be the exceptionally valuable rare metal that the Mandalorians use.
00:24:46
Speaker
So I understand the color scheme.
00:24:48
Speaker
It feels a little more subdued.
00:24:51
Speaker
It feels more like a journey in space as opposed to a dynamic conceptual action scene.
00:25:00
Speaker
Except for that right side of that cabinet with him.
00:25:03
Speaker
Hold on that turret.
00:25:07
Speaker
But if you look at the if you look at the side art on this on the premium, I mean, you know, that's the big rescue when all of the the Mandalorians come to his aid.
00:25:20
Speaker
So, and that's a good scene too.
00:25:22
Speaker
I mean, it's a, they've really, they've really hit some, I love the, the child artwork up, up by baby Yoda is him in the cave holding the egg.
00:25:32
Speaker
He's got the worms in a boulder and there's just, they've captured some of the best moments of the TV series in artwork form in this game.
00:25:40
Speaker
And I, and I'm, I do applaud them for that.
00:25:43
Speaker
I'm a little surprised Baby Yoda is smaller on the premium, but he's not as featured in the premium as he is on the pro.
00:25:52
Speaker
But I guess that you're still going to recognize it, right?
00:25:57
Speaker
You have a, what is that?
00:25:58
Speaker
Like an eight, 10 inch tall.
00:26:01
Speaker
That's the first thing your eyes gravitate towards.
00:26:03
Speaker
What's baby Yoda doing back there?
00:26:05
Speaker
It's a creature trying to escape from the pinball machine.
00:26:08
Speaker
Even with his hand out, he's like, please save me from under this glass.
00:26:13
Speaker
It kind of looked like statue of Liberty a little bit, but kind of.
00:26:19
Speaker
All right, let's talk about some of the features of this game.
Mandalorian Pinball Gameplay and Design
00:26:22
Speaker
Let's talk layout.
00:26:25
Speaker
I feel like this layout is very unique.
00:26:27
Speaker
One thing I did say to Scott, I don't think I told this to you, Tim, but I feel like this is going to be a very fast game just because the right side of the play field is a lot closer.
00:26:39
Speaker
It's at least, it's probably about a third of the way from the back of the play field.
00:26:46
Speaker
Well, it's just past halfway.
00:26:49
Speaker
So usually a lot of shots are really in the back third of the play field, but these feel like they're about two inches closer.
00:26:58
Speaker
And I feel like that left side is going to be your safe shots.
00:27:03
Speaker
And then I feel like the right side is going to be the thing that tests you.
00:27:06
Speaker
And so I, I think this game looks like it has some really good shots.
00:27:12
Speaker
I don't know if this tilting play fields ever done before, been done before, but before we move on to that, what are your guys' thoughts on the shots?
00:27:21
Speaker
I think it has some really nice shots.
00:27:24
Speaker
I think that right ramp looks really tight.
00:27:27
Speaker
You know, that's, that's the only shot that looks like it would be super difficult.
00:27:31
Speaker
I kind of liked those.
00:27:32
Speaker
They call it a horseshoe ramp, but I always call it a flip up ramp, you know, on the right side as well.
00:27:39
Speaker
I kind of liked those.
00:27:40
Speaker
They have a couple on Jurassic park.
00:27:42
Speaker
Um, I've, I've grown, I think they have one on Zeppelin.
00:27:45
Speaker
I've grown to really like those.
00:27:48
Speaker
The longer ramps that feed the left and the right out lane seem to be longer shots, so I don't know how fast those will play.
00:27:55
Speaker
But I agree with you, Josh.
00:27:57
Speaker
It's kind of a unique layout.
00:28:00
Speaker
It has that kind of inner loop that I guess that's supposed to unlock that flip-up horseshoe ramp.
00:28:06
Speaker
But I think your right where the left side is going to be the safe side.
00:28:10
Speaker
Of course, that's where the two pops are.
00:28:12
Speaker
I think there are two pops there.
00:28:14
Speaker
And I think your right side, you know, I think if you don't make the shot, you might pay for it just based on looking at the layout.
00:28:21
Speaker
And I'm curious to really see in person how that โ
00:28:25
Speaker
how the ship shot works.
00:28:27
Speaker
It looks like it has a target that rises up and opens up a shot to a back ramp.
00:28:33
Speaker
So I'm curious to see how hard that shot will be to hit because I can't tell from the pictures how wide of a gap that is once you open up that shot.
00:28:42
Speaker
But I think it's really cool.
00:28:45
Speaker
I think I'm counting three or four ramps.
00:28:47
Speaker
I like ramps a lot.
00:28:49
Speaker
So it really seems to be like it's going to be a fun and fast game to shoot.
00:28:55
Speaker
Well, and the one thing that I'm having a hard time looking for too is like you were saying with the Razor Crest, it states that if you hit that shot so many times, then it makes a multi-ball ready and it raises the center ramp.
00:29:08
Speaker
And so I don't know if that is exactly what the center ramp is.
00:29:14
Speaker
If it's that horseshoe you're talking about, then that turns into an actual U-turn.
00:29:20
Speaker
It's going to be interesting.
00:29:22
Speaker
Anyway, sorry, I cut you off, Scott.
00:29:24
Speaker
Oh, I'm trying to find where that reversi ramp, the one that goes inverted, where is that?
00:29:30
Speaker
Oh, it is right there in the middle.
00:29:31
Speaker
It's on the premium.
00:29:35
Speaker
The straight up the middle one?
00:29:37
Speaker
Not straight up the middle.
00:29:38
Speaker
So you see Razor Crest?
00:29:40
Speaker
Look to the right of it.
00:29:42
Speaker
It's got the red lamp on top of it.
00:29:46
Speaker
If you're looking on the premium or the LE.
00:29:51
Speaker
I think this is going to feel kind of like Elvira, maybe like Pirates of the Caribbean.
00:29:57
Speaker
I'm relating shots I can think of to play fields that are similar to this, that the longer left side, the closer right side.
00:30:05
Speaker
Are you concerned about two flippers only?
00:30:12
Speaker
Now I will say that this is what I initially thought when I saw it, and it's probably just because I owned the game.
00:30:22
Speaker
I thought, okay, what's that upper right thing?
00:30:26
Speaker
I hope that thing's more fun than Shrek's was.
00:30:30
Speaker
And in those flippers, is it more of a gimmick thing or is this going to feel different?
00:30:39
Speaker
A lot of those things, it feels a little bit like a variation on Congo, which isn't necessarily bad, but with Amy under the playfield and you just hit the buttons until you hit all the lights.
00:30:53
Speaker
So it'll be interesting because those are full-size flippers.
00:30:57
Speaker
I don't know how the...
00:30:59
Speaker
the invertedness of the play field, if that's going to change.
00:31:04
Speaker
Yes, it will actually.
00:31:06
Speaker
So my understanding is, is it's based off a difficulty.
00:31:09
Speaker
So I'm just wondering how much that'll affect it.
00:31:14
Speaker
That doesn't really, you know, that doesn't really do much different, but who knows, maybe it will.
00:31:22
Speaker
Yeah, I do like that.
00:31:27
Speaker
I don't know a better way of saying it, but if you look at the shots on the right, they really flow deep.
00:31:34
Speaker
sorry, from the right flipper, right to the left.
00:31:38
Speaker
It feels like they're going a long way away from the play field.
00:31:43
Speaker
I think the left side, if you look at from the left flipper, sorry that I'm reversing a little bit, but the right side of the play field, that does look like the more brutal side of the play field.
00:31:57
Speaker
So it certainly looks fun.
00:32:00
Speaker
Do you think it looks overcrowded?
00:32:03
Speaker
Um, cause I don't think so.
00:32:05
Speaker
That can be a problem, right?
00:32:08
Speaker
Well, who do you need is you could fall who do you need with that problem?
00:32:13
Speaker
And I would say shots and not enough space.
00:32:16
Speaker
I would say turtles with the glider.
00:32:18
Speaker
I would say my glider, it does get a little bit in the way of my visualizing the shots.
00:32:24
Speaker
You have that giant razor crest in the middle.
00:32:27
Speaker
I hadn't thought about that.
00:32:29
Speaker
But I think the Razorcrest you could probably take off too if you needed to.
00:32:36
Speaker
I'm just shooting here.
00:32:40
Speaker
Now that I got thinking, now I'm looking at this a little bit more, the left side, there are some closer shots as well.
00:32:44
Speaker
Like the actual mode hole where, oh, I can't remember his name either.
00:32:50
Speaker
I'm a terrible fan of Carl Weathers.
00:32:56
Speaker
If you shoot, if you shoot his shot, that's fairly close.
00:32:59
Speaker
And then I guess the ramp is close as well on the left side, but it's, it looks like it's wide, so it shouldn't be too terrible to hit.
00:33:10
Speaker
I think all in all, I think this is going to shoot fun.
00:33:14
Speaker
Yeah, I'm certainly looking forward to it.
00:33:17
Speaker
So I got thinking, I was like, this is really random.
00:33:20
Speaker
The Mandalorian head, I know we've touched on this a couple times, so I really want to focus on this.
00:33:25
Speaker
I thought it was really random because many play fields usually there's people kind of complain about them because I don't know, they slow down the flow.
00:33:37
Speaker
If you have the right size ball, it feels too small.
00:33:39
Speaker
If you have the smaller size ball, it feels too floaty and too gimmicky.
00:33:45
Speaker
I think it's interesting because I'm like, what the heck is this about?
00:33:48
Speaker
You know, you read the deep dive and it sounds like there's encounters, obviously in the movie, the Mandalorian encounters a lot of people.
00:33:55
Speaker
And so there's going to be different encounters.
00:33:58
Speaker
And based on the difficulty of the level, you're going to have to finish the Mandalorian helmets to finish that encounter.
00:34:07
Speaker
But then it got, I got thinking about it.
00:34:09
Speaker
I'm like, Brian, it is notorious for having, uh,
00:34:15
Speaker
modes where you have to finish oh what's the word i'm looking for i almost want to call it a boss fight you know what i'm saying like it's attack from mars you've you've got to finish the ship it's uh it's medieval madness you've got to destroy the castle these encounters feel very brian eddie-esque to me because of that reason it's like oh well you're gonna have to finish this encounter and then you'll be able to then move on to the next one
00:34:41
Speaker
So at first I was like, I don't know if I like it, but now I've gotten thinking more and more about it.
00:34:46
Speaker
I think it's a really cool concept.
00:34:48
Speaker
And if it's integrated really well into the game, I think it will be fun.
00:34:52
Speaker
I understand people are concerned that like the ball is going to slow down.
00:34:56
Speaker
But I'm not too worried about that just because like Jurassic Park, the ball stops and in Avengers, the ball stops.
00:35:02
Speaker
And I don't tend to notice it as much just because there's moments in the game.
00:35:07
Speaker
So I think so long as this game is coded properly, I think you're not going to notice when the ball diverts to the helmet and the helmet's adjusting to where it needs to be for your difficulty.
00:35:18
Speaker
And what are you guys' thoughts?
00:35:20
Speaker
You want to change the speed of the ball.
00:35:22
Speaker
Uh, if you have a play field that has uncontrolled speed, then the ball becomes a little out of control.
00:35:32
Speaker
Uh, one of the genius moves that, uh, that Keith Elwin did with the, um, the ramp up on, um, Avengers is that it actually controls the speed.
00:35:45
Speaker
And so you can hit the repeatable shots.
00:35:49
Speaker
But most of the time when you hit, you know, it's like the warp ramp on Star Trek or something.
00:35:55
Speaker
There's only so many times you can hit it before it just is too fast and it gets out of control.
00:36:00
Speaker
So I like being able to have some controlled shots even on the upper side of the play field.
00:36:07
Speaker
When I looked at this, I'm an upper play field guy.
00:36:11
Speaker
I really enjoy upper play fields.
00:36:13
Speaker
I'm a Black Knight sort of Rage premium guy.
00:36:18
Speaker
The pro is too fast for me.
00:36:19
Speaker
So when I looked at this, I really enjoyed it.
00:36:23
Speaker
But once it slows the game down, it feels like once the ball is in the helmet, it's going to be really fast up there.
00:36:31
Speaker
The targets are so close.
00:36:35
Speaker
And I don't know how powerful those flippers are, if they'll have like a shorter end of stroke switch, but because they're full size flippers, but I thought, man, that's going to be a little bit crazy up there.
00:36:46
Speaker
And it sounds like they can't be full power.
00:36:48
Speaker
They can't, they can't.
00:36:50
Speaker
But it sounds like it's going to, you know, be involved in an encounter that's going to show something on the screen.
00:36:56
Speaker
So I thought, okay, I like upper play fields.
00:36:59
Speaker
I didn't know if I would like this one, but I watched a little of the video and I,
00:37:03
Speaker
I read the Twip article and I thought that's going to be kind of cool.
00:37:08
Speaker
I like looking at it.
00:37:09
Speaker
But then the second thing I always think of is, are my guests going to like it?
00:37:15
Speaker
Because I prefer a pinball machine to be more of, I play for the experience.
00:37:20
Speaker
and I play to get through the modes and enjoy the game.
00:37:23
Speaker
I don't play for points, even though I send you guys my points sometimes because it just happens that I get some big points along the way.
00:37:32
Speaker
But I immediately thought, are my guests going to like this?
00:37:35
Speaker
And is it going to be too fast for them if the ball is bouncing off of their targets?
00:37:41
Speaker
But I think they'll like it.
00:37:42
Speaker
So I think it'll, with the encounters, I think it'll integrate into the Star Wars theme very well.
00:37:50
Speaker
Well, it's funny too.
00:37:51
Speaker
If you watch the premium video, it kind of shows it off a little bit more.
00:37:55
Speaker
And when it's not as steep, it seems like they can keep the ball up there for 10, 15 seconds.
00:38:01
Speaker
It's not that long because the video is not that long, but it felt like they could hit the shots a little bit better.
00:38:05
Speaker
But when it goes that super steep, like the hardest difficulty you watched, it's, they had to like show it like three or four different times because they only make like one or two shots and then it drains out instantly.
00:38:16
Speaker
So I hope it's not a common thing to get to the steepest level because I think you'll get frustrated with the fact of like you've hit your two shots and you drain out.
00:38:26
Speaker
So you've got to then qualify the helmet again so you can get it up on the helmet to make two shots.
00:38:31
Speaker
You know what I'm saying?
00:38:32
Speaker
It becomes a wood chopping thing and it just gets frustrating.
00:38:39
Speaker
I'm always concerned that a feature overpowers in difficulty.
00:38:44
Speaker
And you're right, Tim.
00:38:46
Speaker
I was a little surprised, and I've said this before, that my brother was over at the house after I had Avengers, and I'd been playing it a lot.
00:38:53
Speaker
And I asked him, hey, how'd you like it?
00:38:55
Speaker
Because he came over and stayed at my house while I was out of town.
00:38:59
Speaker
And I said, how'd you like Avengers?
00:39:00
Speaker
He's like, I couldn't really figure out how to start it or do things on it.
00:39:05
Speaker
And I was like, huh, that's really interesting because that's different than what I would have thought.
00:39:10
Speaker
But yeah, and there's a reason why I have like Attack from Mars.
00:39:15
Speaker
There's a reason why I have Medieval Madness because they're easy to understand games.
00:39:22
Speaker
So I do like that.
00:39:24
Speaker
And as the complexity of the new games comes out, I am concerned that the casual player that comes over is not going to like it.
00:39:37
Speaker
So speaking of other people, because I've got a World Cup soccer, I know that you've got Attack for Mars.
00:39:43
Speaker
Tim, what's the game that usually people go to first for you?
00:39:46
Speaker
Is it Guns N' Roses?
00:39:47
Speaker
Stranger Things, nine out of ten times.
00:39:51
Speaker
Okay, and that's basically Attack from Mars.
00:39:54
Speaker
It's the same game, so I totally understand that.
00:39:58
Speaker
I was going to say, when I think of these games, I think of there's something easy that people can see
Baby Yoda's Role in Pinball
00:40:04
Speaker
Like on Attack from Mars, it's shooting the ship.
00:40:06
Speaker
On World Cup Soccer, it's shooting past the goalie and making it a goal.
00:40:10
Speaker
Stranger Things, you hit the Demogorgon in the middle.
00:40:14
Speaker
You follow the lights.
00:40:15
Speaker
It's easy and it's a nice theme.
00:40:17
Speaker
So everybody goes to that game first every time.
00:40:21
Speaker
My only concern with this game, I know the very first thing people are going to see, and I guarantee no one's going to argue with me on this, is the second you see this pinball machine, you see this baby Yoda or Grogu or whatever you want to, I guess that's his official name, or the child.
00:40:37
Speaker
He's in the back left and he's static, which is fine.
00:40:42
Speaker
But do you feel like they kind of downplayed him in the game of what it could have been?
00:40:49
Speaker
Yeah, it would be nice to hear kind of how Baby Yoda evolved, because when I saw the Stranger Things Premium and how they locked the balls on the back of the playfield and it was a Brian Eddy game...
00:41:05
Speaker
I immediately thought there's going to be a magnet in Mandalorian as soon as I heard it.
00:41:11
Speaker
And I had some conversations about it.
00:41:14
Speaker
And I didn't think, I don't expect a lot with pinball machines because it's very mechanical and things break and you have to reuse parts, right?
00:41:22
Speaker
You don't, I'm guessing they don't want to make something where they can't find, you know, get the part manufactured in, you know, five years.
00:41:30
Speaker
But I thought that there would be something where a ball ended up in his hand.
00:41:35
Speaker
And the magnet is below.
00:41:37
Speaker
And I saw, you know, you see like five seconds of the magnet.
00:41:41
Speaker
So you don't know what what happens.
00:41:43
Speaker
But I fully expected something to involve Yoda.
00:41:47
Speaker
And I simply thought it would just be his hand, whether the ball landed on his hand or it picked it up off of the ramp or a post, you know, that stopped it on a ramp.
00:41:56
Speaker
But it doesn't bother me one bit.
00:41:59
Speaker
I still were buying the game for my family.
00:42:02
Speaker
But I did expect exactly what you said.
00:42:04
Speaker
I expected Yoda to do something.
00:42:06
Speaker
Yeah, and that's what I've heard across everything is Baby Yoda eating a ball or Baby Yoda even having the head move a little bit like what you would have on Simpson's pinball party and not necessarily having the magnet back by him but maybe having it in the playfield and him raising his hand and stopping the ball in the middle of the playfield front and center.
00:42:29
Speaker
I feel like also the stopping the ball back by him.
00:42:33
Speaker
It becomes that line of sight thing that Scott was talking about with the Razorcrest.
00:42:36
Speaker
I hope people can see that back there too.
00:42:40
Speaker
I'm happy with the model.
00:42:42
Speaker
I think, honestly, out of any of the toys that Stern has done, this one looks fantastic.
00:42:47
Speaker
It really looks lifelike in my opinion.
00:42:50
Speaker
Well, as lifelike as you can make a baby Yoda.
00:42:58
Speaker
And it exists in the pro.
00:43:01
Speaker
And that's the cool part too.
00:43:02
Speaker
It's in the pro, you know, people complained about Avengers and the, uh, as they, what do they call it?
00:43:06
Speaker
The, the, the handmade rubber glove.
00:43:10
Speaker
The Palm olive glove.
00:43:12
Speaker
This is totally opposite of that.
00:43:14
Speaker
But it's an excellent sculpt.
00:43:17
Speaker
Um, I, I always worry about real estate in games and it's a big sculpt.
00:43:26
Speaker
if you take it out, is it taking out of possible shots?
00:43:31
Speaker
It's certainly eye catching, but if you look at Avengers, the, you know, the dish glove, it's, it's kind of hidden back there and it doesn't really get in your face on obstructing the play.
00:43:46
Speaker
But he's, you know, he's kind of tucked up in there.
00:43:49
Speaker
And so I just hope that it's not too big.
00:43:53
Speaker
That's the only thing I was thinking.
00:43:55
Speaker
seems kind of overbearing.
00:43:58
Speaker
You're hoping they didn't compromise playfield shots.
00:44:03
Speaker
It's marketing, right?
00:44:04
Speaker
You look over there and you're like, hey, baby Yoda.
00:44:07
Speaker
I guarantee this game on any location, someone's going to stop and look at that baby Yoda.
00:44:14
Speaker
They're going to stop and go, wait, is that baby Yoda?
00:44:17
Speaker
That's just how it is.
00:44:21
Speaker
Yeah, so I think that it...
00:44:25
Speaker
it certainly is, is out there.
00:44:30
Speaker
I want to talk about the accessories now.
00:44:33
Speaker
So I know this is probably a little, of course you do.
00:44:37
Speaker
Hey, they don't, they didn't show the topper.
00:44:40
Speaker
Anyone disappointed by that?
00:44:42
Speaker
I was not shocked by that.
00:44:43
Speaker
I'm waiting for a, for an R2D2.
00:44:47
Speaker
Where's the guy that said, where's the, where's the star Wars?
00:44:51
Speaker
That guy, every single thread.
00:44:54
Speaker
Where's the dapper?
00:44:56
Speaker
You know what's coming.
00:44:57
Speaker
Any of these things interest you.
00:45:00
Speaker
So it looks like they have alternative armor.
00:45:04
Speaker
So you can get the armor with his gun, whatever that's called.
00:45:09
Speaker
You can also get the shooter rod, which looks like that little steel knob thing.
00:45:16
Speaker
And then you can get the... Let's see, what's the other thing's?
00:45:20
Speaker
You can get the, now they did this with Jurassic park where the art blades that you can buy are different than the Ellie.
00:45:30
Speaker
So we'll talk about that.
00:45:32
Speaker
And, and then we all know there's a topper coming.
00:45:35
Speaker
We don't know what it is, but any of those things interest you.
00:45:40
Speaker
Cause I, I know there's one thing I do want to talk about, but I want to see what you guys say.
00:45:44
Speaker
I think the gun armor stuff is really awesome.
00:45:49
Speaker
Yeah, I think that's pretty cool.
00:45:51
Speaker
I don't know if I'd buy it, but I think it really... The problem is, though, if you put this in a lineup, how much of it's going to be buried?
00:46:02
Speaker
That's what stood out to me.
00:46:05
Speaker
I like side blades.
00:46:08
Speaker
I never did, but then I purchased a set for one of my machines and I thought, oh, those are kind of cool.
00:46:14
Speaker
I'm not a huge fan of the heads on the side blades.
00:46:18
Speaker
I like more of Jurassic Park.
00:46:21
Speaker
You had different scenes on the sides, but these are characters on the side, so I don't know if I'm crazy about it.
00:46:28
Speaker
I do like the gun, but for the same reason, I don't buy armor because it sits between my machines and
00:46:34
Speaker
Nobody sees it and there's
Pinball Accessories and Aesthetics
00:46:38
Speaker
a topper coming and I might have ordered it already.
00:46:41
Speaker
So I at least put myself on the waiting list for it.
00:46:44
Speaker
I shouldn't say I haven't ordered it.
00:46:50
Speaker
I actually just got the Led Zeppelin topper.
00:46:52
Speaker
And by the way, in person, that looks really cool.
00:46:55
Speaker
So I was on the fence on that one and it's cool with the lights.
00:47:00
Speaker
So keep that in mind.
00:47:02
Speaker
Topper, topper fans.
00:47:04
Speaker
Um, the art blades really not a fan.
00:47:09
Speaker
Um, there's a big difference.
00:47:12
Speaker
It seems like with the, the Ellie and the premium and the premium on Jurassic park.
00:47:19
Speaker
Also, they were significantly different and I'm not going to say inferior, but they, it is a completely different vibe with Jurassic park.
00:47:29
Speaker
They had the giant eyeballs, right?
00:47:32
Speaker
And with this, you don't have the environmental art blades.
00:47:40
Speaker
You get the Mount Rushmore of bad guys, right?
00:47:46
Speaker
So if I were to get art blades for this, I would have to consider getting like...
00:47:53
Speaker
like an aftermarket one.
00:47:54
Speaker
Tilt graphics usually has really nice.
00:47:58
Speaker
And it's kind of sad because I like the, I like having the continuity of having the same artist do it.
00:48:06
Speaker
And so on, on turtles, I bought the, you know, I bought the, the zombie Yeti ones.
00:48:12
Speaker
because I like the continuity of it, but I will not, I, my style, I'm not interested in the Mount Rushmore's watching as the art blades.
00:48:23
Speaker
I think they, they won't sell that many of those.
00:48:27
Speaker
And Turtles was a scene.
00:48:29
Speaker
I have the Turtle Blaze as well.
00:48:31
Speaker
And it was a scene that integrated into the play field.
00:48:34
Speaker
So you're absolutely right.
00:48:36
Speaker
So I think this was a miss to have just the faces.
00:48:44
Speaker
Maybe I could be in the minority just like I'm in the minority in the art direction style.
00:48:50
Speaker
But I would like to have more of an environmental feel like they have in the L.E.
00:48:55
Speaker
I think, and this is just me, I'm not a fan of the shooter knob.
00:49:03
Speaker
I, I, I bought the Jurassic park one cause it's cool.
00:49:06
Speaker
It illuminates, right?
00:49:09
Speaker
It's, and it's totally cosmetic.
00:49:11
Speaker
I totally get how, how ridiculous it is, but it's cool.
00:49:17
Speaker
So tonight I had a church group over and they brought the 14 year olds and it was kind of fun because we were, I, I asked how many people have played a pinball machine and one person raised their hand.
00:49:30
Speaker
And it was really interesting and went through.
00:49:33
Speaker
And, and of course, what questions always come up when you have people come over?
00:49:38
Speaker
It's always, they still make these.
00:49:40
Speaker
They still make these.
00:49:41
Speaker
And then they cost bingo.
00:49:44
Speaker
Those are a and B right.
00:49:46
Speaker
And so usually too.
00:49:49
Speaker
They still make these.
00:49:50
Speaker
How much do they cost?
00:49:51
Speaker
And so I, I went through my lineup and I said, well, okay.
00:49:55
Speaker
Uh, this is black Rose.
00:49:57
Speaker
This is the, the cheapest one I have in my lineup.
00:50:00
Speaker
It's probably between 2,500 and 3000 now.
00:50:05
Speaker
And then I talked about other ones like the stern pirates of the Caribbean, which Tim is a proud owner of.
00:50:12
Speaker
And Spider-Man was like, yeah, these are probably around $5,500.
00:50:16
Speaker
And then I pointed to some of the premiums I have, and I was like, well, these are probably about $7,000, $7,500.
00:50:21
Speaker
And then I said, and there's some LEs, which are probably about $9,500, right?
00:50:28
Speaker
And it's, it's just interesting when you, when you point out those things that it's such a weird thing, but my friend who came over and brought the kids, I said, well, you can get different things.
00:50:40
Speaker
And he said, yeah, but I think the topper is really cool.
00:50:44
Speaker
He's like, I like the bells and whistles.
00:50:45
Speaker
I think it looks really cool.
00:50:47
Speaker
And so I said, exactly.
00:50:49
Speaker
That's why I bought them because I think it's, it's fun to come down and you're getting an environment that
00:50:55
Speaker
you're you that's why I have a, a two and a half foot tall Mario in my basement because it's, it's a total dumb thing that I bought.
00:51:05
Speaker
I smile every time I see him and I have an M and M that's the same size too.
00:51:09
Speaker
So just stuff like that.
00:51:11
Speaker
But with the, you know, with, with the Mount Rushmore, I wasn't a big fan.
00:51:16
Speaker
The, the shooter ball.
00:51:20
Speaker
If you really want that, I, I,
00:51:24
Speaker
I know it's appropriate for the theme, but it's probably not something I would get.
00:51:30
Speaker
The side blades or whatever, the side armor.
00:51:35
Speaker
I think it's great.
00:51:37
Speaker
And if you want to buy it, then that's a good, good thing to buy.
00:51:42
Speaker
It's on the side of the game and you're not going to see it much.
00:51:44
Speaker
And so unless you're really into it, then it wouldn't be, it wouldn't be a must buy.
00:51:49
Speaker
But I'm with Tim though.
00:51:51
Speaker
I said, I, I texted Zach and I said, I want a premium and I want a chopper.
00:51:57
Speaker
So I'm a chopper guy.
00:52:00
Speaker
We actually just got the Stranger Things topper a few weeks ago.
00:52:04
Speaker
That's a cool looking topper.
00:52:05
Speaker
That made me want to buy the game, actually.
00:52:08
Speaker
And my wife made me get the shooter knob as well.
00:52:12
Speaker
So the game looks beautiful.
00:52:14
Speaker
And it really is a nice topper in person.
00:52:17
Speaker
We're glad we bought it.
00:52:18
Speaker
Yeah, and I think the Blacklight mode... So there are things that I think, wow, that is a really upgrade to the game.
00:52:26
Speaker
I think the Topper on Stranger Things is one.
00:52:29
Speaker
I think the Blacklight mod is one of them.
00:52:32
Speaker
With Led Zeppelin, I... Okay, I'll point this out too.
00:52:36
Speaker
I was a little disappointed that they didn't integrate some side lights like they have in Led Zeppelin.
00:52:44
Speaker
And I know it's not a music...
00:52:46
Speaker
thing, but those lights are really cool in Led Zeppelin.
00:52:51
Speaker
I would, I would have liked to have seen those as well, but Scott, I don't know if you know this stepping back, you had said you had the Mario between my pinball machines.
00:53:00
Speaker
I have a train layout, so I like the neat stuff in the game room.
00:53:04
Speaker
So a train layout.
00:53:06
Speaker
You'll have to send me a picture of that.
00:53:07
Speaker
Cause my son is huge into trains and I have been trying to find ways of, uh,
00:53:14
Speaker
of having him enjoy that but i i can't have him have an entire room full of like model trains where like you have the whole layout it's a huge hobby and it's got okay i know i know it's ironic when i collect pinball machines but i'm like and that's a really expensive hobby for a it's cheaper though it's it's cheaper
00:53:37
Speaker
You can put the trains around the top of your game room.
00:53:40
Speaker
Actually, every time my kids go to a restaurant where there's a train that cycles, people are like, we should totally do that.
00:53:46
Speaker
I'm like, yeah, dad can't do that.
00:53:49
Speaker
Yeah, I will send you a video because I have three pinball machines, a train layout in the middle, and three pinball machines on the other side.
00:53:55
Speaker
Okay, that's good to know.
00:53:58
Speaker
Okay, back to Josh.
00:54:01
Speaker
Okay, are you buying any of these accessories?
00:54:07
Speaker
I'm one of those guys.
00:54:08
Speaker
I like to play the game when I'm done with it.
00:54:11
Speaker
The next thing comes into the collection.
00:54:13
Speaker
I'm kind of that person that I just don't bling stuff out because I just don't.
00:54:22
Speaker
You're not all about the eye candy.
00:54:24
Speaker
No, no, I'm not about the toppers.
00:54:26
Speaker
I guess I'm more about the play of the game than I am the the looks of the game.
Brian Eddy's Reputation and Mandalorian's Release
00:54:31
Speaker
You're a hardcore gamer.
00:54:34
Speaker
Don't know about that.
00:54:35
Speaker
But my last thought about Mandalorian, I think we've kind of covered everything, artwork, what shots, functions in the game, accessories.
00:54:47
Speaker
My one thought is you own a Star Wars, a stranger's thing, Tim.
00:54:53
Speaker
do you feel like if this game came out before stranger things do you think that brian eddie would have been received better because if you remember when stranger things come out it was very poorly polarized and granted this game isn't a hundred percent like everyone says it's a win well i i do think that if mandalorian came out first
00:55:17
Speaker
You know, it would have been received much better than Stranger Things.
00:55:21
Speaker
You know, people would have been, you know, saying, Brian Eddy's back and, you know, he's awesome and he never lost it.
00:55:28
Speaker
And I think he unfairly got a bad rap with Stranger Things because I tell everybody that it's a fun game.
00:55:36
Speaker
It's not my favorite game.
00:55:38
Speaker
It's middle of the road in my collection.
00:55:41
Speaker
It attracts the most people.
00:55:43
Speaker
And I just played it tonight before I got on here.
00:55:46
Speaker
And it's a fun game.
00:55:47
Speaker
And it's the oldest game of my collection.
00:55:49
Speaker
But to your point, if Mandalorian came out first, I think he would have gotten a much warmer reception.
00:55:58
Speaker
But it's interesting now.
00:56:00
Speaker
Stranger Things is starting to get popular.
00:56:03
Speaker
And I think with this game, you're going to see Brian Eddy get popular.
00:56:08
Speaker
So people might go back and say, hey, I like this game.
00:56:11
Speaker
Let's go buy his other game, you know, Stranger Things.
00:56:14
Speaker
You know, it might rise.
00:56:15
Speaker
It might raise both of their popularity.
00:56:18
Speaker
But I think this it looks like a really good game.
00:56:21
Speaker
It's different from anything he's done.
00:56:24
Speaker
You know, it doesn't look like Shadow.
00:56:25
Speaker
It doesn't look like Stranger Things.
00:56:26
Speaker
But I think he, you know,
00:56:29
Speaker
That was a long-winded answer to, yeah, I think that it would have been received differently.
00:56:35
Speaker
I think you're right as well.
00:56:36
Speaker
I think that it really would have been a good entry point.
00:56:40
Speaker
Granted, Mandalorian Pride Amy exists back when Stranger Things was released from a licensing standpoint.
00:56:48
Speaker
Could have been Rogue One.
00:56:52
Speaker
What are your thoughts, Scott?
00:56:53
Speaker
Do you think it would have been good for Eddie to release something layout design-wise like this instead of Stranger Things?
00:57:01
Speaker
The challenge with Stranger Things is that
00:57:07
Speaker
It felt like a re a reskin.
00:57:10
Speaker
If you look at attack for see, I have attack from Mars.
00:57:14
Speaker
I love attack from Mars.
00:57:16
Speaker
And it's not going out of my collection anytime soon.
00:57:20
Speaker
But that I when people saw Stranger Things.
00:57:27
Speaker
They reacted as if, hey, you liked Family Guy, right?
00:57:34
Speaker
And it felt like a reskin.
00:57:37
Speaker
And so that's really where the disappointment was when people were crestfallen.
00:57:42
Speaker
It's not that they don't think he's a good designer.
00:57:46
Speaker
They just wondered if he had anything else other than a perfected fan layout.
00:57:53
Speaker
which is what both of his excellent games are, Attack from Mars and Medieval Madness.
00:57:58
Speaker
They are perfected fan layouts.
00:58:01
Speaker
And they are different enough that I have them both, but they're also similar enough that I think people said, really, this again?
00:58:09
Speaker
That's the challenge with that, is that people wanted more.
00:58:14
Speaker
And it felt like a very safe thing and probably safe to a fault.
00:58:22
Speaker
So what do you, I guess, what were we taking away from Mandalorian?
00:58:24
Speaker
Obviously we must all like it.
00:58:26
Speaker
I've got one on order.
00:58:27
Speaker
You've got one on order.
00:58:28
Speaker
Tim's got one on order.
00:58:30
Speaker
You're getting the, we're all getting the premium.
00:58:33
Speaker
Yeah, we're all getting the premium.
00:58:34
Speaker
So obviously we see something in the mini play field and the magnet and the moving ramp.
00:58:41
Speaker
And it is my first premium.
00:58:45
Speaker
So I've always gone pro.
00:58:48
Speaker
So I went premium this time.
00:58:50
Speaker
I thought you had the Stranger Things premium for some odd reason.
00:58:57
Speaker
This will be my second premium.
00:59:01
Speaker
I was more of a pro guy as well, but I think the problem is, how did someone put it?
00:59:07
Speaker
Stern is starting to differentiate between the pro and the premium a lot better, so it makes you feel like you're missing out if you don't get the premium.
00:59:14
Speaker
Yeah, that's my feel, is that they're home games for me.
00:59:21
Speaker
And I understand that $1,600 is a jump.
00:59:26
Speaker
However, I look at a game and I think, I kind of wish I had that one cool feature.
00:59:33
Speaker
So it's, I don't know.
00:59:37
Speaker
I was going back and forth with my friend who's another collector.
00:59:40
Speaker
And I said, I was trying to figure out on like turtles.
00:59:44
Speaker
And he said, hey, when you buy a car, do you get other seats?
00:59:50
Speaker
So, okay, get the premium.
00:59:52
Speaker
Because functionality is exactly the same, right?
00:59:57
Speaker
But there's something nice about paying for the leather seats.
01:00:02
Speaker
The functionality is not the same.
01:00:05
Speaker
And the functionality between cloth and leather is entirely different.
01:00:11
Speaker
No, and that's fair.
01:00:12
Speaker
However, when we bought sofas, we bought the leather because they actually hold up really well to abuse.
01:00:24
Speaker
But what I'm saying is, you know, it'll still get you there, right?
01:00:30
Speaker
Yeah, no, I'm a fan.
01:00:32
Speaker
I'm super excited.
01:00:33
Speaker
This is a perfect theme.
01:00:37
Speaker
I think this is a great one for Eddie to, I guess, reboot.
Coding and Gameplay Balance in Mandalorian Pinball
01:00:42
Speaker
This is his, this is kind of a reboot.
01:00:47
Speaker
You put out Stranger Things.
01:00:48
Speaker
It wasn't received super well.
01:00:49
Speaker
Let's see what else you can do.
01:00:50
Speaker
And I would say this is a solid, this looks to be a solid effort with a solid theme.
01:00:55
Speaker
And Dwight on code, we,
01:00:58
Speaker
we were beta testers for turtles and I think we'll be beta testers again.
01:01:02
Speaker
So I think this is a good opportunity to, to look at what Dwight does and Dwight.
01:01:10
Speaker
This is a plus and a minus is that he's not afraid to take risks on, on coding.
01:01:17
Speaker
So it'll be interesting to see, do you get a star Wars complexity of a code or do you get a monsters version?
01:01:24
Speaker
I think you're probably going to get something in between.
01:01:28
Speaker
This is me guessing.
01:01:29
Speaker
I was slightly nervous just because I loved a white code, but because he did the original star Wars, I was nervous that people would be like, Oh crap.
01:01:37
Speaker
Like we're just going to have star Wars 2.0.
01:01:39
Speaker
The multiplier, the 40 multiplier, which no one ever played, but yeah, it's a, he, he gets unfairly criticized.
01:01:48
Speaker
Um, but he is passionate and he has, uh,
01:01:52
Speaker
He is willing to try something.
01:01:56
Speaker
I think this will be actually a pretty safe coding experience just because the theme is something that's going to sell a boatload.
01:02:06
Speaker
And so you're going to have to find that middle ground between too easy and too hard.
01:02:15
Speaker
I think, and I think the thing about Eddie, because obviously he's going to be having his input on code as well because he had with his other games.
01:02:23
Speaker
I think that you're going to start off easy and you're going to progress into harder and harder, just like you do with Keith L1 games.
01:02:32
Speaker
The first thing is usually pretty easy.
01:02:34
Speaker
The first one's free, right?
01:02:37
Speaker
Yeah, you have the, well, and what does Keith say?
01:02:41
Speaker
You have the gimme multiball, right?
01:02:44
Speaker
And that's going to be that with Razor Crest, especially with a shot right up the middle.
01:02:49
Speaker
Well, that could also be a dead shot.
01:02:51
Speaker
That reminds me of the swinging bell in ACDC.
01:02:57
Speaker
I hadn't thought of that, but yeah.
01:02:58
Speaker
Just enough to slow the ball down.
01:03:00
Speaker
But I mean, can you imagine if a standup target were there?
01:03:03
Speaker
Oh man, that would kill you.
01:03:04
Speaker
But it looks like it's a weighted just enough to slow it down.
01:03:07
Speaker
So all in all, I think we're, we're happy with the result, right?
01:03:11
Speaker
I think it was great.
01:03:13
Speaker
Well, I think that does it for Mandalorian tell the reveal, the official live stream reveal of the premium is the it's in 10 days.
01:03:23
Speaker
So it's is it the 20, 21st, somewhere around there?
01:03:27
Speaker
Somewhere around there.
01:03:28
Speaker
Yeah, I've got it here.
01:03:31
Speaker
I actually, I really wish Stern would just have something taped.
01:03:35
Speaker
I don't really see the need to have an interactive session, but who knows?
01:03:41
Speaker
I am also not in marketing, so do not take my words on marketing.
01:03:45
Speaker
Maybe there is something to be said about, hey, I can hop in and I can interact and ask questions.
01:03:52
Speaker
But I would be totally fine with them having a recorded sessions like, hey, this is the tutorial for this.
01:03:58
Speaker
Do this, do this, do this.
01:04:00
Speaker
And this is how you progress in the game.
01:04:03
Speaker
I do wish they would have something similar to that.
01:04:06
Speaker
It's something a little longer than the three-minute video.
01:04:08
Speaker
Something showing the game in action and not all chopped up.
01:04:14
Speaker
And that's the one thing, granted, Stern knows how to do the marketing.
01:04:18
Speaker
But the one thing that was driving me nuts about the videos is you're watching them, and then it would cut in a scene from the TV series, which is great.
01:04:27
Speaker
If that's going to be the...
01:04:28
Speaker
the actual back the animations and stuff, then fine.
01:04:32
Speaker
But like, I want to see the pinball machine.
01:04:34
Speaker
Like you, the game reveal trailer was a minute and 12 seconds and you showed me the pro and the premium and 20 seconds of it was at least footage from the TV series.
01:04:45
Speaker
Like if I, if I'm only getting a minute, I want it to be of all that pinball machine, but Hey, I'm not the marketing guy.
01:04:51
Speaker
So yeah, Zach knows what he's doing.
01:04:54
Speaker
Keep up the good work, man.
01:04:56
Speaker
Let's move on from Mandalorian.
01:04:57
Speaker
Let's talk Steve Ritchie.
01:04:58
Speaker
I know that Tim reached out to me.
01:05:00
Speaker
I don't know if he talked to you, Scott, but Tim, what was your thoughts on the Ritchie episode?
01:05:05
Speaker
Honestly, it was one of my favorite interviews that you guys had on your show.
01:05:13
Speaker
I just enjoyed it.
01:05:14
Speaker
I mean, there was no real special reason why.
Steve Ritchie Interview Insights
01:05:19
Speaker
Steve is kind of an animated character.
01:05:22
Speaker
He likes to do the voices and so forth as he talks.
01:05:27
Speaker
I liked the fact that he just said he was kind of tired of doing licensing and did another Black Knight sort of rage.
01:05:36
Speaker
I enjoyed that he brought some folks into his office and talked about them.
01:05:42
Speaker
I enjoyed that he kept giving other people credit for things that had gone on in some of the games.
01:05:48
Speaker
He gave you just a little bit of...
01:05:51
Speaker
what went into the games and how things were developed.
01:05:54
Speaker
But overall, he's just a nice animated guy.
01:05:57
Speaker
And I was working in the yard and thoroughly enjoyed the interview.
01:06:02
Speaker
See, and it's funny because I had a fair amount of people reach out and said this was their favorite interview.
01:06:07
Speaker
And maybe it was, I was confused.
01:06:10
Speaker
And the reason being was I saw how much editing...
01:06:13
Speaker
I had, we had to do a C-Ritchie there.
01:06:15
Speaker
There was a lot of work that went into that interview because Steve has a hard time hearing.
01:06:20
Speaker
And he alluded to that in the, in the interview itself.
01:06:24
Speaker
And we had to do like a zoom type conference call so he could read our lips.
01:06:29
Speaker
And I was on a computer that did not have a webcam.
01:06:32
Speaker
And so it's kind of Scott, it's Scott heavy because he could see my lips because I was on a video thing.
01:06:40
Speaker
Well, I don't know if it's that, but like some people are like, they've messaged me like, what was the secrets that Steve was giving out?
01:06:47
Speaker
Why did you have to edit?
01:06:48
Speaker
Like you can clearly tell there's this spot and this spot or edit.
01:06:52
Speaker
What did he say there?
01:06:53
Speaker
And I'm like, you want to be, you want me to be a hundred percent honest?
01:06:56
Speaker
Like he was just having a hard time hearing.
01:06:58
Speaker
So a lot of it's like, yeah.
01:07:00
Speaker
rephrasing the question and then having Scott say it so that way he can read Scott's lips and then me saying the question again so it sounds better and then there was times where Steve someone would come into his office or there'd be a random tangent and I had to edit that out and so you know Steve's like
01:07:20
Speaker
Well, I mean, John Rothamil, we left that part in, you know, there were no secrets.
01:07:26
Speaker
There were no secrets from certain.
01:07:27
Speaker
This was us trying to, to skinny it down to a, a better palatable episode, but yeah.
01:07:34
Speaker
But even like people at Stern reached out to us and said, what did he say?
01:07:38
Speaker
I was like, nothing.
01:07:39
Speaker
Yeah, it was fine.
01:07:42
Speaker
We don't, we don't do the gotcha journalism.
01:07:45
Speaker
We're not that kind of, we're not that kind of show.
01:07:49
Speaker
So it was fun, but it seriously, it was the most edited episode I've ever done.
01:07:56
Speaker
I will say it's nice to see Steve because Steve is a genuine guy.
01:08:01
Speaker
He is genuinely interested in pinball and he is genuinely interested in interacting with people.
01:08:09
Speaker
So he likes being Steve Ritchie.
01:08:15
Speaker
I got a little bit of a pushback when I said that Street Fighter wasn't being made anymore.
01:08:21
Speaker
Okay, I know they're still being made.
01:08:24
Speaker
But I would say that I would say the relevance... How dare you?
01:08:30
Speaker
I've always said I prefer Street Fighter over Mortal Kombat.
01:08:33
Speaker
I actually think Mortal Kombat is...
01:08:38
Speaker
Especially the latest ones.
01:08:40
Speaker
They're really over the top.
01:08:43
Speaker
But it seems that there's an appetite for more of that.
01:08:47
Speaker
So I tend to see it more, pushed more.
01:08:50
Speaker
But I could be wrong.
01:08:51
Speaker
But again, I'm not much of a video game player anymore.
01:08:55
Speaker
But either way, it was a fun interview.
01:09:00
Speaker
It felt like it was a behind the curtain on Steve Ritchie.
01:09:05
Speaker
He was a genuine guy.
01:09:07
Speaker
Well, it was nice to talk about the William days.
01:09:09
Speaker
I can't remember if it made it in or not, but he did talk about, it did.
01:09:12
Speaker
He talked about still going past Williams every once in a while and just kind of seeing the building and remembering some of the things that happened there and the glory days.
01:09:21
Speaker
Cause that, that's a lot of where his pinball career started and took place.
01:09:27
Speaker
All right, so we're all fired up for the Mandalorian, and it looks like we were impressed enough to all get on the premium.
Market Dynamics of Limited Edition Pinball Models
01:09:35
Speaker
Were either of you tempted on the LE?
01:09:38
Speaker
Okay, the LE is insanity.
01:09:39
Speaker
What is going on with this, by the way?
01:09:41
Speaker
I know we're running out of time, but it's time to start wrapping this up.
01:09:45
Speaker
But can we just talk about the LE insanity for just a couple minutes?
01:09:51
Speaker
Yeah, well, you see it with almost every LE.
01:09:56
Speaker
Um, this is, this is one of those where it's a hot theme and the, it, it's impressive.
01:10:04
Speaker
So now will I buy in a, I bought Ellie's I, and I have a Jurassic park Ellie.
01:10:10
Speaker
I have the Avengers Ellie.
01:10:14
Speaker
I actually prefer the premium art package on this.
01:10:17
Speaker
And I also need to, I need to start a little more of Josh's attitude of, of love them for a while and then move them on because I can't collect every single machine.
01:10:30
Speaker
Like not every machine can be a forever machine.
01:10:33
Speaker
It feels easier for me to let go of a premium than an LE.
01:10:35
Speaker
So that's why I bought a premium.
01:10:38
Speaker
But is it insanity?
01:10:39
Speaker
Like, I was talking to one... I've been talking to a couple different distributors, and they said that the LE, as soon as people mentioned the Mandalorian, like, it could be the theme, like, a month ago, distributors have had lists that are 50-plus people for almost a month now.
01:10:55
Speaker
Like, these were sold out before even...
01:10:58
Speaker
it was officially announced.
01:11:00
Speaker
This is ridiculous.
01:11:01
Speaker
Like this is, and it's even more ridiculous that like distributors are starting to sell that.
01:11:07
Speaker
Like the one that was auctioning them off.
01:11:09
Speaker
Like he wants everyone to have the opportunity to buy one of these.
01:11:13
Speaker
So let's talk about that.
01:11:14
Speaker
Cause I actually did go a little back and forth on this.
01:11:17
Speaker
Cause someone posted on this and I actually, okay.
01:11:22
Speaker
I, I will say I'm not a fan.
01:11:28
Speaker
I would say that this is supply and demand.
01:11:35
Speaker
where the MSRP is the suggested retail price.
01:11:40
Speaker
And I know the caveat is, and Taylor Reese, friend of the show from this flipping podcast, he pointed out, he's like, I said, like, this is, this is a free market and they're, they're charging what the market allows.
01:11:53
Speaker
And he's like, well, he didn't agree so much.
01:11:56
Speaker
There was a free market since they had a set basement price, which, which I'll, I'll agree.
01:12:01
Speaker
That, that, that is the caveat, but I,
01:12:04
Speaker
If you have a concert, so for example, we just bought tickets to Jim Gaffigan.
01:12:10
Speaker
And there was a, my wife went to a reseller price at first and she's like, man, these seem crazy prices, but they were selling them for $400.
01:12:25
Speaker
However, the, we bought them and they were, I don't know, they were like 70 or 80 or something like that.
01:12:31
Speaker
But if we wanted the premium seats, that would have been 250.
01:12:35
Speaker
Well, if the reseller price is able to buy a ticket for $50, but resell it at $150, then that tells me maybe Jim Gaffigan should be selling the ticket for $150.
01:12:53
Speaker
So it's this weird kind of give and take where I don't necessarily love that the market, that there's so much demand and it drives the prices up.
01:13:03
Speaker
But on the flip side, there is so much demand.
01:13:06
Speaker
Like if I had a machine, would I say, well, I, I'd like to like, I'm going to sell it to you.
01:13:13
Speaker
Cause that's the, that's the MSRP.
01:13:15
Speaker
But this other guy wants to pay me $500 more.
01:13:19
Speaker
And so what's the difference if I sell it to you for that?
01:13:21
Speaker
And then you're like, hey, I got a Mandalorian here, new in box.
01:13:25
Speaker
Who wants to buy it?
01:13:28
Speaker
But I was thinking also like... Make 1,000 LEs?
01:13:35
Speaker
People were saying this was coming.
01:13:36
Speaker
People were saying, you know, distributors are going to start doing this because this is what happens in other markets.
01:13:42
Speaker
But I got thinking about...
01:13:43
Speaker
They've already done it.
01:13:45
Speaker
And granted, Beatles was a different beast.
01:13:48
Speaker
Yeah, but wasn't that the exact same thing?
01:13:51
Speaker
They had the base, they had the premium, and then the limited edition was... No, they didn't have the base and premium.
01:13:57
Speaker
They had a premium, so they had the gold edition, they had the platinum edition, and the diamond edition.
01:14:05
Speaker
So I was trying to make it more relatable to the listener.
01:14:09
Speaker
No, but, but I'm saying they basically had the entry level, which was a premium.
01:14:15
Speaker
And then they had a deluxe and a super deluxe.
01:14:19
Speaker
But with the super deluxe Stern, never gave out a price on those.
01:14:23
Speaker
They just said it's with the, with the platinum either.
01:14:27
Speaker
Was the platinum as well?
01:14:28
Speaker
Yeah, it was the, it was as well.
01:14:29
Speaker
What you did is you bought, you were committed to buy, I think it was 14 games.
01:14:35
Speaker
You had 10 golds, uh, three, um, um, three of the, um,
01:14:43
Speaker
platinum and you got one diamond and you paid the same price for all of them.
01:14:50
Speaker
And it was up to you to assess what the market value was for the three in the one.
01:14:58
Speaker
Are you sure that doesn't sound right?
01:15:01
Speaker
I'm totally right on this one.
01:15:06
Speaker
That sounds, does that sound right?
01:15:11
Speaker
I have no reason to disbelieve him.
01:15:15
Speaker
Are we giving away like stern secrets here?
01:15:16
Speaker
I feel like this was common knowledge.
01:15:19
Speaker
It was talked about a lot.
01:15:22
Speaker
I don't know about that.
01:15:23
Speaker
Anyhow, but my point being is I feel like this has already been done once before, so it would not shock me if LEs, because of their rarity, because of their demand, we do start seeing, hey, your base pro is $6,000, your premium is $7,800, and then call your distributor for an LE.
01:15:45
Speaker
Because at this point, I kind of agree with like distributors should be getting somewhat of a kickback because not only do the LE sell out quick and they should be making a premium off that, they still do get, what's the proper way to put this, jerked around.
01:16:02
Speaker
I know people that call multiple distributors that are like, hey, this is how much I'm getting it from this guy.
01:16:08
Speaker
How much can I get it from you?
01:16:10
Speaker
And granted, they're all supposed to have their own little base price.
01:16:13
Speaker
And Stern says you're not supposed to go below that.
01:16:18
Speaker
but there's some people that see gray area in that.
01:16:21
Speaker
I don't know how you do, but I, yeah, like there's just as much the consumer is, is taking advantage of the low prices as the distributors of the high price.
01:16:34
Speaker
So I feel like it kind of balances itself out.
01:16:38
Speaker
I, I, I feel that, or here, okay, here's my wish, my, my Chris, my, my Ted talk from me to you.
01:16:48
Speaker
I would like everybody who wants to buy the LE to be able to get the LE.
01:16:55
Speaker
So if there's a thousand, if there's interest for 1500, I think they should sell 1500.
01:17:00
Speaker
They should get that money.
01:17:02
Speaker
But I also understand there is something about the, the perceived scarcity and Hey, this is what, uh,
01:17:12
Speaker
Like, this is what it is.
01:17:14
Speaker
And so, hey, you missed out the last LE, maybe you'll jump in on this one.
01:17:18
Speaker
So there is a perpetuation of the myth of scarcity that does drive demand.
01:17:25
Speaker
And Spooky sold out in four hours on, you know, on Rick and Morty.
01:17:30
Speaker
So what does that say?
01:17:33
Speaker
It's the perceived scarcity, right?
01:17:36
Speaker
So I guess it is what it is, but I'm glad they're able to sell them.
01:17:42
Speaker
I'm glad they're not sitting there like Kiss did.
01:17:45
Speaker
The Ellie Kiss that just sat around and finally they just almost gave them away.
01:17:50
Speaker
Like WrestleMania still is.
01:17:55
Speaker
They buried them in the same dumpster lot that the E.T.
01:18:00
Speaker
game from the Atari did in 82.
01:18:03
Speaker
Oh, don't even get me started on Atari games.
01:18:07
Speaker
But anyway, like I, I, yeah, it, it's, it's sad that the prices are that way, but on the good side, that means it's a healthy demand for the product.
01:18:19
Speaker
And you're getting, I would say the difference between the premium in the LE really isn't that much.
01:18:28
Speaker
It's not like you can, you're paying for the privilege of having the LE and yes, it already has the blinged out stuff.
01:18:35
Speaker
It has the invisible glass.
01:18:38
Speaker
It has the upgraded sound package.
01:18:40
Speaker
It has the side art, it has the shaker motor, has the mirror back glass, but really the play field is exactly the
Tribe Multiball Show Promotion
01:18:47
Speaker
same as the premium and there's a billion premiums out there.
01:18:49
Speaker
Okay, but I want someone to send into Josh and tell him that I am right on the pricing of Beatles.
01:18:57
Speaker
We're going to get an email from Zach Sharp says I cannot confirm nor deny.
01:19:00
Speaker
I can neither confirm nor deny.
01:19:06
Speaker
Oh, we'll find a distributor.
01:19:08
Speaker
There's always one out there.
01:19:11
Speaker
Actually, I don't, I, that wasn't a secret.
01:19:13
Speaker
I'm pretty sure they actually announced that.
01:19:20
Speaker
We'll, we'll, we'll, we'll find out.
01:19:23
Speaker
Someone, someone, I'm getting tired.
01:19:26
Speaker
I know if I'm tired, Tim's about to crash out in front of his computer.
01:19:29
Speaker
So, um, yeah, we're, we're good.
01:19:33
Speaker
Tim, I want you to, I want you to plug your show because really, I know that we talked about it at the beginning, but I don't think people are hearing it enough.
01:19:41
Speaker
Tribe multiball is really fun.
01:19:42
Speaker
I think, I think the part of this industry slash hobby is there are people that fall through the cracks that don't really get
01:19:51
Speaker
that should be talked about that don't get to be on a podcast or whatnot.
01:19:54
Speaker
I feel like you interviewing these tribe members is really cool because it gets them to tell their story and feel like they're more part of the hobby.
01:20:03
Speaker
So I want you to talk about your show a little bit.
01:20:06
Speaker
So tribe multiball, you know, I'm part of the poor man's pinball podcast tribe.
01:20:11
Speaker
You know, somebody has to be there to, to, you know, watch over those guys and be the nice guy.
01:20:19
Speaker
And, um, they have this tribe that they concocted this, you know, crazy tribe idea.
01:20:25
Speaker
And I always wanted to do a podcast.
01:20:29
Speaker
I decided that I was going to interview the tribe members because as I got to know Drew and Ian and their group,
01:20:37
Speaker
the men and women in the tribe, I started to realize they had a lot of cool things going on.
01:20:44
Speaker
So I was looking for a co-host and Rachel Lilji offered to come on and be a co-host with me.
01:20:53
Speaker
So all we really do is we interview the tribe members and they're just average people in the hobby and just talk about how they're playing pinball, how they got into pinball,
01:21:05
Speaker
And what they're doing into pinball, and we're discovering that, you know, some of the folks are just like me.
01:21:10
Speaker
They like to play pinball in their basement and talk about it.
01:21:13
Speaker
Others are taking pinball to another level, starting tournaments, having kids tournaments.
01:21:19
Speaker
And we're learning more about the people.
01:21:21
Speaker
There's a gentleman we interviewed last, Pete Quintz.
01:21:25
Speaker
Just real quick, he has an instrumental band, and the sole purpose of that band is to raise money for the Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.
01:21:34
Speaker
They did the Project Pinball thing where they work with them, raise money, and put a pinball machine that's going into Children's Hospital.
01:21:42
Speaker
We just do about an episode every week or two.
01:21:46
Speaker
just talking to the various tribe members and just seeing what they're doing in pinball and how they're playing in pinball.
01:21:53
Speaker
It's just, you know, normal people talking about pinball, you know, nobody's really tied to the industry or, or anything.
01:21:59
Speaker
So that's our show.
01:22:00
Speaker
I mean, it's usually about a half hour to 45 minutes and we have about 41 episodes to do with the tribe members.
01:22:07
Speaker
And we're on episode number seven that should come out in the next couple of days.
01:22:13
Speaker
And it's, it really is fun.
01:22:14
Speaker
It's, it's a good lesson.
01:22:16
Speaker
If you're looking for something just to, uh, keep you awake or whatever, that's the show, man.
01:22:24
Speaker
So, so how can people contact you, Tim, if you want people to reach out to you and send messages and, and talk pinball with you?
01:22:31
Speaker
Is it an open tribe?
01:22:34
Speaker
Um, generally I'm on Facebook.
01:22:38
Speaker
Go to the Poor Man's Pinball Podcast page and you can find me there.
01:22:44
Speaker
Or just friend me on Facebook, Tim Lee on Facebook.
01:22:47
Speaker

01:22:49
Speaker

01:23:19

01:23:22
Speaker
So Josh, why don't you send us on out?
01:23:26
Speaker
