Welcome to the Solarpreneur Podcast where we teach you to take your solar business to the next level.
00:00:08
Speaker
My name is Taylor Armstrong.
00:00:10
Speaker
I went from $50 in my bank account and struggling for groceries to closing 150 deals in a year and cracking the code on why sales reps fell.
00:00:19
Speaker
I teach you to avoid the mistakes I made and bring in the top solar dogs of the industry to let you in on the secrets of generating more leads, falling up like a pro and closing more deals.
00:00:31
Speaker
What is a solopreneur you might ask?
00:00:33
Speaker
A solopreneur is a new breed of solopro that is willing to do whatever it takes to achieve mastery and you are about to become one.
00:00:43
Speaker
Hey what's going on solopreneurs?
Guest Introduction: Amanda Berry
00:00:44
Speaker
I am excited today because we have the one the only Amanda Berry on the podcast with us.
00:00:50
Speaker
She drove five hours just to come do this podcast.
00:00:52
Speaker
I didn't know that before this so super excited and on
00:01:03
Speaker
No problem.
00:01:04
Speaker
Yeah, it'll be fun.
00:01:05
Speaker
And yeah, I mean, everyone's been saying awesome things about you.
Achievements and Transition to Solar
00:01:09
Speaker
How many kilowatts you had this year that have closed?
00:01:12
Speaker
Um, installed, I think it's like 890 something, but I know we closed like 963 last I looked.
00:01:18
Speaker
Jeez.
00:01:21
Speaker
Insane.
00:01:22
Speaker
So yeah, definitely one of the top, probably, I don't know, top set, I mean, you're a top setter at your company, right?
00:01:28
Speaker
Yeah.
00:01:28
Speaker
And probably, I don't know, I don't know any setter that's doing more than that.
00:01:32
Speaker
So I would say probably top in the industry.
00:01:35
Speaker
So it's pretty freaking awesome.
00:01:36
Speaker
So we're going to be jamming on what it takes to get to that level, how you just become a master at setting the deals and really just how she's been able to have so much, much success.
00:01:46
Speaker
So before that, do you want to kind of tell us, I don't know, how you got into Solveyor and a little bit of
00:01:53
Speaker
So I started out in alarms in 2017, which I was not the best at.
00:01:59
Speaker
I think I did 13 accounts in the summer.
00:02:02
Speaker
And I never wanted to knock doors ever again.
00:02:07
Speaker
And then in 2020, COVID hit.
00:02:10
Speaker
And I see my friends doing well in the solar industry.
00:02:13
Speaker
So I wanted to try it out and see what it was all about.
00:02:18
Speaker
Since you couldn't work, why not knock doors?
00:02:25
Speaker
COVID and everything?
00:02:26
Speaker
Yeah well more like towards the end it was like in October that I started knocking of 2020.
00:02:32
Speaker
Okay and you were it was with like Pure Energy with in Texas here from the beginning?
00:02:38
Speaker
Yes yeah well I started with another company but then uh Pure flipped my account so okay I'm with Pure Energy now.
00:02:47
Speaker
Gotcha how did you get introduced with uh Pure and everything?
00:02:50
Speaker
Um
00:02:51
Speaker
The guy I worked with at the other company knew my managers, and so they ended up recruiting him, so he brought me over, and that's how I got introduced to them.
00:03:04
Speaker
Okay.
00:03:05
Speaker
Yeah.
00:03:05
Speaker
That's awesome.
Initial Struggles and Persistence
00:03:07
Speaker
And so a lot of people, I know you said you didn't have a ton of success with alarms, but a lot of alarm people come out just with a bang in the beginning.
00:03:15
Speaker
That was a few in the beginning, was it like,
00:03:22
Speaker
all better or were you just right off the bat you're like wow i honestly i honestly was not good uh solar at the beginning it took me maybe two or three months until i started catching my stride okay um i made it to where every every day i was knocking 200 doors that was like my goal not 200 doors a day
00:03:46
Speaker
I know it's about conversations that you have, but I wanted to knock as many doors as possible to get better.
00:03:51
Speaker
And I know one day I knocked 200 and only got one set.
00:03:55
Speaker
Oh, geez.
00:03:56
Speaker
So that's got to be like, I mean, that's a ton of doors to knock and only get one set.
00:04:01
Speaker
So were you like in the beginning or like, oh, shoot, maybe this is just like alarms all over again.
00:04:07
Speaker
I don't know if I should do this or like, how are you feeling?
00:04:10
Speaker
I questioned it, but I also believed in it.
00:04:12
Speaker
because I've seen others have success.
00:04:16
Speaker
And, like, I was listening to other podcasts where people first started out in solar, and they were struggling, but then eventually you just find those right things to do to make you better.
00:04:27
Speaker
Okay.
00:04:28
Speaker
Knocking, like, the 200 doors.
00:04:30
Speaker
I was writing my pitch down, like, 10 times every single day.
00:04:34
Speaker
Wow.
00:04:35
Speaker
That's good.
00:04:36
Speaker
Yeah, that's awesome.
00:04:37
Speaker
Yeah, not many people are willing to go through that to, like,
00:05:13
Speaker
So I want to say it was like June of 2021 that I finally figured it out.
00:05:23
Speaker
And I remember complaining about one of my areas and they're like, you were only there for one day.
00:05:31
Speaker
And I'm like, well, I didn't like it.
00:05:32
Speaker
It's been not super hard.
00:05:35
Speaker
Yeah.
00:05:36
Speaker
I was like, okay, I'll give it one more day and I'll try it.
00:05:40
Speaker
And that month I ended up doing like 100.
00:05:44
Speaker
That was my first 100 kilowatt month.
00:05:47
Speaker
Holy.
00:05:48
Speaker
Wow.
00:05:48
Speaker
Just from sticking it out in that area?
00:05:51
Speaker
Yeah.
00:05:52
Speaker
Wow.
00:05:53
Speaker
That's funny.
00:05:55
Speaker
I'm actually thankful they made me stay one more day there.
00:06:01
Speaker
It got a lot better.
00:06:02
Speaker
It was just like one day was crappy and then after that,
00:06:06
Speaker
started taking off that's awesome i bet all the managers listening to this love to hear that right now they're gonna take that section and just play it on repeat for all those reps like saying a complaint about that area right um that's sweet and so for you you i know you're in dallas here um you're you were on a blitz in
00:06:31
Speaker
blitzing versus just working in Dallas?
00:06:34
Speaker
Do you blitz a lot or is it mostly just in Dallas or?
00:06:38
Speaker
Just mostly here in Dallas.
Work Routine and Sales Strategy
00:06:40
Speaker
Okay.
00:06:40
Speaker
Okay.
00:06:41
Speaker
Well, so the biggest thing is, yeah, I think you're talking about this with some of our guys, but some people think there's like some magic word track you're singing or just all this secret stuff.
00:06:52
Speaker
And I know you've like worked super hard to develop your skill and everything, but I also heard from our buddy Rick Martinez here.
00:07:00
Speaker
the hardest, yeah, that you work insanely hard.
00:07:03
Speaker
He was, I don't know if this is true, but he was telling me that you get like super antsy if you're not like out working, hitting doors.
00:07:08
Speaker
And I'm like, wow, okay.
00:07:11
Speaker
That's like next level.
00:07:12
Speaker
She wakes up and she's like, I gotta get to that first door.
00:07:15
Speaker
So is that true?
00:07:16
Speaker
Are you just like, I gotta get to the door.
00:07:18
Speaker
You're like just working nonstop.
00:07:21
Speaker
That's very true.
00:07:22
Speaker
I'm, I don't, I'm not a homebody, so I don't like to be stuck at home and
00:07:29
Speaker
yeah i i'm like obsessed with working right now and i know once you find that momentum you don't want to lose it and so that's my biggest thing that's funny because just obviously we don't know each other before this but you seem like you know like some of the people i know that love knocking doors are almost like bouncing off the walls and like let's get out there and
00:07:52
Speaker
But you seem more like a reserved person, like chill, relax.
00:07:56
Speaker
So that's cool that you can channel both sides of it.
00:07:59
Speaker
Yeah, definitely.
00:08:01
Speaker
That's sweet.
00:08:04
Speaker
For those that are like, okay, how much is she actually working?
00:08:07
Speaker
What does your typical schedule look like?
00:08:10
Speaker
You're out here in Dallas, what's your typical working?
00:08:14
Speaker
I usually start, well, since time changed,
00:08:19
Speaker
I've actually been going out around like 9, 9.30 in the morning.
00:08:22
Speaker
Okay.
00:08:24
Speaker
And then I'll work for like two hours and then I head to the meeting that we have and then I'm back on the doors at least by 3 p.m.
00:08:34
Speaker
and I'll work till 8.
00:08:35
Speaker
Wow.
00:08:36
Speaker
Yeah.
00:08:37
Speaker
That's a good amount of hours.
00:08:38
Speaker
And then what about like in the summer when they don't fly?
00:08:44
Speaker
Is it even more in the summer?
00:08:45
Speaker
Yeah.
00:08:46
Speaker
Way more in the summer.
00:08:47
Speaker
Definitely.
00:08:48
Speaker
Okay.
00:08:50
Speaker
That's awesome.
00:08:51
Speaker
So have you always been like this?
00:08:53
Speaker
Like in alarms, were you working a ton too?
00:08:56
Speaker
Or is this just like since kind of seeing success in solar?
00:09:00
Speaker
I think alarms is where I mentally think that I have to be on the doors at like 10 a.m.
00:09:06
Speaker
Yeah.
00:09:07
Speaker
In a way, because they would drop you off in the mornings.
00:09:10
Speaker
It wouldn't pick you up till nine o'clock at night.
00:09:12
Speaker
Yeah.
00:09:13
Speaker
I think it kind of prepared me to...
00:09:29
Speaker
and this will work because they know they're like, oh, I can still make a lot of money and work half the hours as alarms.
00:09:36
Speaker
Exactly.
00:09:37
Speaker
It's like, yeah, you can do that.
00:09:38
Speaker
But the top people in the industry like you, they're working an insane amount.
00:09:46
Speaker
Yeah, so I'm sure you get asked this, but like, I don't know.
00:09:49
Speaker
I don't know if you train, do you train other reps at your company very much?
00:09:53
Speaker
Yeah, I do.
00:09:55
Speaker
The biggest thing, um,
00:09:59
Speaker
people are usually surprised is how simple my pitch is.
00:10:04
Speaker
Okay.
00:10:04
Speaker
Like, I don't overcomplicate it, no fluff, it's just like straight to the point.
00:10:08
Speaker
Yeah.
00:10:11
Speaker
And other reps, like I just had a rep shout on me on Saturday and she was like, this is insane.
00:10:16
Speaker
Yeah.
00:10:17
Speaker
Like, I've never seen like people just set the appointment.
00:10:29
Speaker
Before we kind of ask you about your presentation and everything, what do you tell reps that like, cause I'm sure there's just like every company, I'm sure there's gotta be quite a few, you know, unmotivated reps that probably aren't knocking as much as you that are like, Amanda, how do you like get yourself out there?
00:10:45
Speaker
And not everyone's like that.
00:10:47
Speaker
We're like, uh, I need to get out on the doors at nine 30 in my kitchen to get out there.
00:10:52
Speaker
So what do you tell,
00:10:54
Speaker
false people, or do you have any advice for, like, reps that are like, Amanda, I'm not like you.
00:10:57
Speaker
I'm not, like, superhuman.
00:10:59
Speaker
How do you, like, motivate yourself and just get out there when someone's not, like, forcing you out there?
00:11:04
Speaker
What would you say to that?
00:11:06
Speaker
I would say it's just about having, like, the self-talk, training your body just to be ready to go.
00:11:14
Speaker
Just pushing yourself.
00:11:17
Speaker
Push yourself to the limit.
00:11:18
Speaker
Yeah.
00:11:20
Speaker
It pays it back to you.
00:11:31
Speaker
Yeah, definitely.
00:11:32
Speaker
Are you big on that?
00:11:34
Speaker
Yeah.
00:11:34
Speaker
Morning routine is like key to success in anything you do.
00:11:41
Speaker
I'm usually up by like 4 or 5 a.m.
00:11:47
Speaker
I hit the gym and then I do like a meditation type of walk in this like park near my apartment.
00:11:57
Speaker
So that starts my day off.
00:12:00
Speaker
And then
00:12:01
Speaker
I just go from there.
00:12:02
Speaker
And just up to the doors?
00:12:03
Speaker
Yeah.
00:12:05
Speaker
That's crazy.
00:12:06
Speaker
And then the self-talk was like, is that a big thing?
00:12:10
Speaker
Kind of like as you're knocking and everything, you like, I don't know, have all the affirmations and stuff like that?
00:12:16
Speaker
Yeah, just telling myself like, okay, I'm going to set this one.
00:12:21
Speaker
I pick a house and I just tell myself that's going to be the one.
00:12:25
Speaker
That's going to be the first one of the day.
00:12:27
Speaker
And then I go in.
00:12:34
Speaker
compete with other people over?
00:12:35
Speaker
I am super competitive.
00:12:37
Speaker
I love when other door knockers are in my area.
00:12:40
Speaker
Really?
00:12:41
Speaker
Yeah.
00:12:43
Speaker
You just keep knocking and force them out.
00:12:45
Speaker
Because I know some reps will be like, there's someone here, come pick me up.
00:12:49
Speaker
And then I'm just like, okay, well, I'm just going to stay here.
00:12:52
Speaker
Yeah.
00:13:01
Speaker
simplify it a little bit and then um yeah and then maybe like how you would change it too if there's like I don't know maybe saturated areas and so you said uh you keep it super simple and so um I don't know like has it always been that way how did you uh kind of first do your presentation or your pitch like how has it changed since you started um I noticed that I was over complicating it um at the beginning um I would have people
00:13:32
Speaker
I've had people in the doors like tell me or just shut me down immediately.
00:13:38
Speaker
And so once I switched it and just got straight to the point, like, hey, I'm here.
00:13:43
Speaker
I'm about the solar in the area.
00:13:46
Speaker
People actually listen because there's no fluff.
00:13:49
Speaker
And they usually sometimes they just want you to be straight to the point and they actually give you the time of day.
00:14:11
Speaker
with that yeah because i was doing like the whole net metering and then they would just i don't know it was just weird and so now that i'm better at reading energy is coming from the door i know which way to go with my pitch i know if i have to be super quick i know if i can build rapport with a person i know if i can take my time i know when to slow down like
00:14:54
Speaker
keeping it simple, like, for example, I'm in San Diego and, you know, I know out here it's getting saturated, maybe, maybe just as much as San Diego.
00:15:04
Speaker
It's pretty saturated too.
00:15:05
Speaker
Yeah, definitely.
00:15:07
Speaker
But like for you,
00:15:18
Speaker
where lots of people have checked it out.
00:15:20
Speaker
And so what's like your go-to if they go solar, okay, not interested.
00:15:24
Speaker
Like, how do you handle that?
00:15:25
Speaker
And I don't know if that's something you get a lot out here.
00:15:28
Speaker
Yeah, I actually do.
00:15:31
Speaker
Usually I, with Pure being like a Texas based company, Texans love Texas.
00:15:38
Speaker
And so I'm able to say, hey, there's been a lot of third party companies coming from Utah, California, Arizona.
00:15:44
Speaker
kind of overpricing those systems okay and then that's how i'm able and then i just pretty much just say hey we're a local texas company and usually that brings it back down because they're like oh i'm from texas yeah i like that yeah and so do you bring it up before because some people can kind of tell
00:16:09
Speaker
interested sometimes yes um depending on the area because like different areas i have to get a feel for it to see how much it has been knocked and how many people they have spoken to but once i know where i'm going then i know where to transition like with my pitch at that point for a presentation so okay so like the area you were talking about that you're i don't know let's say you're knocking behind a rep or super saturated area so now would you kind of change it to like
00:16:39
Speaker
Because I know a lot of people talk about, you know, bringing up the objection before they can.
00:16:44
Speaker
Sam Tiger calls it like, you know, eight-miling, all that stuff.
00:16:47
Speaker
So do you do that too if you're not being saturated?
00:16:49
Speaker
Are you kind of like, hey, I know someone just came by, but the reason I'm here is because we're a local company and stuff like that?
00:16:55
Speaker
Or how do you kind of differentiate?
00:16:59
Speaker
I usually joke with them because if I know, like, they've been knocked super hard, I'll be like, I know you hate to see me.
00:17:07
Speaker
And then they just laugh.
00:17:08
Speaker
And then I just get straight to the point like, yeah, I know your door's been knocked a lot.
00:17:13
Speaker
There's been a lot of those third party companies out here.
Handling Objections and Emotional Detachment
00:17:16
Speaker
And so that's kind of just how I, yeah, it's just bringing it up before they can give you the objection right away.
00:17:23
Speaker
Yeah.
00:17:24
Speaker
And finding out like more info, if they sat with someone, if they didn't, if it was just talking to someone like me at the door.
00:17:31
Speaker
That's awesome.
00:17:32
Speaker
Well, yeah.
00:17:32
Speaker
And so you're just so
00:17:41
Speaker
That was actually like a week ago.
00:17:45
Speaker
No, a couple weeks ago.
00:17:46
Speaker
Yeah.
00:17:47
Speaker
Is that a company record for pure?
00:17:50
Speaker
Possibly.
00:17:53
Speaker
I better start keeping track to put that on the leaderboard.
00:17:56
Speaker
Right.
00:17:57
Speaker
That's crazy.
00:17:59
Speaker
And, jeez, that was it.
00:18:02
Speaker
So just an average week.
00:18:03
Speaker
I don't know.
00:18:03
Speaker
What would you say is just kind of like an average day for you at this point?
00:18:07
Speaker
How many of you will go set up working that schedule you're seeing?
00:18:10
Speaker
Um...
00:18:11
Speaker
Yesterday I actually did 16.
00:18:15
Speaker
And it just varies.
00:18:20
Speaker
I should at least be able to get 10 every single day.
00:18:23
Speaker
Okay, so 10 is kind of like...
00:18:44
Speaker
what goals was that to get 22 were you uh working more or is that do you feel like it was just kind of like i don't know things were falling in place dialed in or yeah yeah tell us about your 22 day um i was actually training someone so i guess i was more motivated okay and uh i was just out on the doors at like 10 i want to say by like one o'clock i had at least already 11 that day
00:19:12
Speaker
Jeez.
00:19:13
Speaker
And so I was like, oh no, I'm getting, I'm going to get 20 today.
00:19:17
Speaker
And I just kept going.
00:19:18
Speaker
And 22 is actually my favorite number.
00:19:22
Speaker
So I was like, cause I've already hit 20 before in the past.
00:19:26
Speaker
And so...
00:19:28
Speaker
I was like, okay, well, let's just up it.
00:19:31
Speaker
And so I'm like driving around the neighborhood and it's already dark outside.
00:19:34
Speaker
I think it was like eight o'clock by this point.
00:19:38
Speaker
And I needed that one more.
00:19:40
Speaker
And I remember seeing this lady in the street because I knocked her door like three times that day and she never answered.
00:19:47
Speaker
And so I pointed because I seen her go into our house and I said, that's 22.
00:19:51
Speaker
And so I just jumped out of my car and I walk over there and
00:19:57
Speaker
setter and they closed the next day so yeah that's incredible wow was that rep was that rep retrained he's like oh my gosh yeah he thought it was insane because he came from arizona and he knocked doors out there and he was like people weren't like this yeah so was he just like oh people are waiting for you can never do this in arizona yeah exactly like put me anywhere i'm gonna do
00:20:30
Speaker
Yeah, it's dark by like, I think it was like 545, 6, it's already dark.
00:20:36
Speaker
And so, yeah, what do you, how do you handle walking in the dark?
00:20:40
Speaker
Maybe Texas people are pretty chill about it.
00:20:43
Speaker
But yeah, how do you like handle or change things once it's dark?
00:20:49
Speaker
I honestly don't.
00:20:50
Speaker
It's weird.
00:20:52
Speaker
Okay.
00:20:52
Speaker
I just knock the door the same way.
00:20:56
Speaker
Usually, sometimes whenever they're looking at me kind of weird, then I'm just like, I'm sorry.
00:21:01
Speaker
Like, this is my last door of the night.
00:21:03
Speaker
Okay.
00:21:03
Speaker
Yeah.
00:21:30
Speaker
a lot of times so yeah i mean i think there's a lot to be said just about like treating it like it's normal i'm going by everyone at this time so that's cool that's good um okay so yeah 22 sets 10 average and then um i think probably a question that people are having as they listen to this to like okay well she can set 22 in a day but i bet only like a couple holes are actually going to sit down
00:22:09
Speaker
So a couple of weeks ago, I had five failed credits and two closed.
00:22:16
Speaker
But the set to sit ratio, I'm not too sure.
00:22:20
Speaker
Okay.
00:22:22
Speaker
But I've had nine closed in a week at one point.
00:22:25
Speaker
Nice.
00:22:26
Speaker
And also, I just don't get attached.
00:22:29
Speaker
Yeah.
00:22:30
Speaker
I just move on to the next.
00:22:31
Speaker
Okay.
00:22:32
Speaker
I feel like that's what made me grow the most because sometimes I'll have that conversation that I'm like, oh, this one's a deal.
00:22:40
Speaker
And it's the one that I was like iffy about is the one that closes opposed to the one I feel a great rapport with.
00:22:48
Speaker
Yeah.
00:22:48
Speaker
Yeah.
00:22:49
Speaker
Yeah, it's true.
00:22:50
Speaker
Sometimes the ones you think will don't and then the ones you think it's not that solid appointment.
00:22:56
Speaker
Yeah.
00:22:56
Speaker
Once I close and everything.
00:22:57
Speaker
Yeah.
00:22:58
Speaker
yeah well so i know that's and i think yeah that's a great tip right there to just like kind of detach yourself because obviously if you're not going to the deal then it's kind of like yeah you can't be attached to that result it's like whatever happens um but like i know there's also stuff you can do to solidify that appointment um to give yourself like a better chance of them sitting down so do you have any advice or anything you do to make it solid or
00:23:31
Speaker
So usually we have the office girls send out a text in the morning.
00:23:35
Speaker
So I let the homeowner know, like, hey, they're going to send a text in the morning just to make sure we put the design on the right home.
00:23:43
Speaker
So just confirm that when they send that through.
00:23:46
Speaker
Okay.
00:23:46
Speaker
That's good.
00:23:49
Speaker
Yeah, the confirmations have went up pretty good for me here lately.
00:23:54
Speaker
That's good.
00:24:02
Speaker
texting um sometimes if I built like a great relationship with that person then I actually remove their number and I personally text them and yeah okay um what about like do you get a lot of is there people that cancel with that text I know in California it's my first company I was with actually they're like oh never text the customer because that's just gonna give them an out to cancel which I don't know some people yeah some people are like um
00:24:44
Speaker
Not too bad, actually.
00:24:46
Speaker
I think it's harder for them to cancel on me after we just built that relationship, pretty much.
00:24:53
Speaker
But I mean, I've had people just tell me, right now is not a good time.
00:24:58
Speaker
But I mean, it happens.
00:25:01
Speaker
Yeah, for sure.
00:25:04
Speaker
Another big mistake I see from
00:25:15
Speaker
like old lady that you built like this.
00:25:34
Speaker
and switch it sometimes.
00:25:35
Speaker
So how do you manage your time out there?
00:25:38
Speaker
How do you make sure people aren't wasting your time and they're actually interested?
00:25:42
Speaker
So I had this question yesterday.
00:25:44
Speaker
They were asking me how long am I typically on the doors for?
00:25:49
Speaker
I'm literally probably at the most at that door for five minutes, if anything.
00:25:56
Speaker
Yeah, because I'm on to the next.
00:25:58
Speaker
My brain is so determined just to move on.
00:26:01
Speaker
Yeah.
00:26:03
Speaker
Okay, so you're not like getting inside the home or anything, you're like chatting it up with these people really, you're just like, get the business set up and then out of there most of the time?
00:26:12
Speaker
Yeah.
00:26:13
Speaker
Okay.
00:26:13
Speaker
So if you do get super, I don't know, like old guy or something super conversational, do you just kind of have to like cut them off or like, how do you- I had that yesterday actually.
00:26:23
Speaker
I got the set, but they were not letting me go.
00:26:28
Speaker
They were both, they just kept talking to me.
00:26:32
Speaker
about their new home.
00:26:33
Speaker
So I was just like, yeah.
00:26:36
Speaker
I had to keep going back to get the set.
00:26:39
Speaker
And then finally I was like, okay, I gotta go.
00:26:44
Speaker
But yeah.
00:26:47
Speaker
That's good.
00:26:48
Speaker
I've learned if I do have those people, I try and I don't want to be rude, especially if it's the old person.
00:26:57
Speaker
But yeah, I've learned that
00:27:01
Speaker
I've wasted, I have wasted a lot of time on doors sometimes with those people as well.
00:27:06
Speaker
Yeah.
00:27:07
Speaker
Yeah.
00:27:08
Speaker
That was cool.
00:27:10
Speaker
Yeah.
00:27:10
Speaker
Well, cool.
00:27:11
Speaker
Um, and then, I mean, just kind of start, um, wrapping up here a little bit, Amanda, obviously you're like, um, I don't know about your office, but, um, in San Diego, we have a tough time getting, you know, the ladies to stick around.
00:27:24
Speaker
Obviously we're on this team here, it's all guys and everything.
00:27:27
Speaker
So like,
00:27:35
Speaker
that but in dallas do you have a lot of other ladies on the team and uh we have i think like three four of us on the team yeah nice do you find it hard to like do you do a lot of recruiting getting other girls on or uh i guess what's your experience being like in a you know industry where it's mostly guys and stuff like that what's your take on that or experience with that it is a lot more difficult to get um
00:28:05
Speaker
like women to be a part.
00:28:08
Speaker
I think because it is more of like a male dominant job, I guess.
00:28:15
Speaker
Yeah, but I've tried recruiting a few and they never text me back.
00:28:21
Speaker
I guess I need to get their number actually.
00:28:32
Speaker
actually out to do that summer and she was, yeah, it didn't go very good because she's super emotional and she's not like you and I mean, I don't know, I guess a lot of girls sometimes tend to like take the rejection more personal and stuff like that.
00:28:48
Speaker
Yeah, definitely.
00:28:50
Speaker
So yeah, do you train a girl or I don't know if you get asked at all by like the other girls in your company and stuff like that, but do they ask you that or like how you deal with all this rejection and stuff?
00:29:01
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, sometimes.
00:29:03
Speaker
I mean, I just ignore it.
00:29:04
Speaker
Like, my brain is, like, so focused, like, on to the next.
00:29:09
Speaker
Like, I just forget about it as soon as, like, I get, if I get yelled at, if I do get those objections or.
00:29:16
Speaker
Yeah.
00:29:16
Speaker
I've never let it bother me, so.
00:29:18
Speaker
Yeah.
00:29:19
Speaker
But Texas people are pretty nice usually, right?
00:29:22
Speaker
Yeah.
00:29:22
Speaker
Okay.
00:29:23
Speaker
That is very true.
00:29:25
Speaker
No guns pulled on you or anything?
00:29:27
Speaker
No.
00:29:27
Speaker
Okay, that's good.
00:29:29
Speaker
They got chased down once, but.
00:29:33
Speaker
I did a pest control actually my first summer in Dallas and I was only like 18 at the time and just like was trying to just shove it down people's throat so I did get some pretty mad Texans out here.
00:29:45
Speaker
Oh no.
00:29:47
Speaker
But pest control is definitely more like a hard sell because like you know you're trying to get it right now and not let them leave.
00:29:54
Speaker
So I feel like it's like seven
00:30:03
Speaker
And then, uh, well, yeah.
00:30:04
Speaker
And then another thing, like, do you guys do a lot of same days here, Amanda?
00:30:07
Speaker
Or how much, so you're booking an appointment when you typically schedule it or like, what's your process for that?
00:30:13
Speaker
Depending on our schedule.
00:30:15
Speaker
Um, yeah, we, we can do same days.
00:30:17
Speaker
Um, but usually the furthest I'll schedule it, I usually push for next day.
00:30:23
Speaker
Um, I don't, the further, like the further it goes, the less likely they're going to remember.
00:30:28
Speaker
Right.
00:30:29
Speaker
They're going to think about it.
00:30:30
Speaker
They're,
00:30:31
Speaker
they're end up going to change their mind pretty much.
00:30:33
Speaker
And so I'm more focused on, okay, well, my guy's going to be out here tomorrow.
00:30:38
Speaker
So, okay.
00:30:40
Speaker
So you don't push for same days as much.
00:30:43
Speaker
Um, like it just depends on the schedule.
00:30:45
Speaker
I will push for them.
00:30:46
Speaker
Just, I mean, I set like five same days in one day.
00:30:52
Speaker
Um,
00:31:03
Speaker
Well, yeah, it's been pretty awesome.
00:31:05
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, no magic bullet here.
00:31:07
Speaker
You're just like working a ton, keeping it simple.
00:31:12
Speaker
Yeah, getting to the point.
00:31:14
Speaker
So as we kind of wrap up for Amanda, I mean, are you cool to do like a little, I don't know, quick role playing?
00:31:19
Speaker
Just give us like an example so people can kind of hear what you're doing.
00:31:23
Speaker
Yeah, definitely.
00:31:24
Speaker
Okay, cool.
Door Pitch Demonstration
00:31:26
Speaker
So we're at the door.
00:31:26
Speaker
Okay.
00:31:28
Speaker
All right, knock, knock.
00:31:29
Speaker
I open up.
00:31:30
Speaker
Okay, go ahead.
00:31:32
Speaker
Hey, how's it going?
00:31:33
Speaker
Hey, good.
00:31:34
Speaker
What's you selling something?
00:31:35
Speaker
Yeah.
00:31:36
Speaker
Um, I'll be super quick.
00:31:37
Speaker
Uh, my name's Amanda.
00:31:39
Speaker
I'm a peer.
00:31:40
Speaker
Uh, we've been doing a lot of the solar, uh, out in this area.
00:31:44
Speaker
Oh yeah.
00:31:45
Speaker
We checked it out and yeah, it didn't really save us money.
00:31:47
Speaker
So, okay.
00:31:48
Speaker
Not really interested.
00:31:49
Speaker
What company did y'all speak with?
00:31:51
Speaker
Do you remember?
00:31:52
Speaker
Uh, I think it was like, I don't know, some Lumio guys or something like that.
00:31:57
Speaker
Okay.
00:31:58
Speaker
Yeah, that's kind of the issue we've been having.
00:32:01
Speaker
There's been a lot of third party companies out here kind of coming from Arizona, Utah, California, kind of overpricing the systems.
00:32:08
Speaker
So we're actually just coming back through with a big group rate for the neighborhood.
00:32:12
Speaker
Just to show you guys why a lot more of the neighbors have been going with the local Texas company.
00:32:17
Speaker
Oh, okay.
00:32:18
Speaker
I have my guys actually visiting with the neighbor across the street later this evening around four.
00:32:24
Speaker
I can have them swing by around five when they're finished up.
00:32:27
Speaker
Yeah, okay.
00:32:28
Speaker
Well.
00:32:38
Speaker
Do you have a card or something?
00:32:39
Speaker
I don't have a card on me.
00:32:41
Speaker
Honestly, it just takes about 10 or 15 minutes for my guy just to kind of show you our numbers.
00:32:45
Speaker
And then we can just leave that with you or move forward.
00:32:50
Speaker
Just whatever makes sense for you guys.
00:32:52
Speaker
Okay.
00:32:54
Speaker
Yeah, well, let's, let's, yeah, I'm pretty busy.
00:32:57
Speaker
So I don't know.
00:32:58
Speaker
Can you guys come back like next week?
00:33:00
Speaker
Um, let me check.
00:33:03
Speaker
Yeah, the latest I can do is possibly tomorrow.
00:33:08
Speaker
Will you be available then?
00:33:10
Speaker
Yeah, I don't know.
00:33:10
Speaker
Maybe.
00:33:11
Speaker
What time will you guys be here?
00:33:13
Speaker
Are you and your wife going to be here around 6, 7?
00:33:30
Speaker
No worries.
00:33:31
Speaker
And do you by chance put your bill in the mail or online?
00:33:36
Speaker
We do it online, but yeah, can I like just give them that tomorrow or something?
00:33:41
Speaker
Yeah, you can.
00:33:43
Speaker
Or just so it doesn't take longer than the 10 to 15 minutes, because I know you're saying that you're pretty busy.
00:33:49
Speaker
They can just have that ready.
00:33:51
Speaker
All I need is just the picture of that bar graph that's on there.
00:33:54
Speaker
Oh, okay.
00:33:56
Speaker
Okay.
00:33:56
Speaker
Yeah, I'll go get here.
00:33:57
Speaker
Sweet.
00:33:58
Speaker
Okay.
00:33:58
Speaker
All right.
00:33:59
Speaker
uh yeah i'll have them swing by tomorrow for sure okay and we'll send out a text just to make sure we put the design on the right roof and just so it does take that 15 minutes tomorrow yeah okay sweet boom nice that was pretty quick pretty simple yeah okay i like it yeah just bring it up and and yeah and so most people you get that same like i think if people checked it out then
00:34:30
Speaker
Texans love to buy from Texans, so, you know, like, if it's local, then they're all about it.
00:34:37
Speaker
It's the weird thing.
00:35:04
Speaker
or not really every once in a while we did it but um my goal is just to get the closer into the house because i know like it's gonna make sense and there's no reason like they shouldn't do solar okay another other thing we were talking about just yesterday too with our team here is um i know this happens a lot in california maybe not as much here but um sometimes you get reps that don't
00:35:39
Speaker
out here you kind of have to like set it up and be like okay they're going to come back in the house they're going to sit down with you and both you need to be there type thing yeah um i'd let them know because sometimes they'll ask me so they're just dropping it off and i'm like no they're going to go over it with you just in case you have questions or concerns and they're able to answer that with you uh you and and i always make sure like the spouse is going to be there sometimes they tell me they are and then they're not but yeah yeah happens yeah yeah
00:36:12
Speaker
nightmare in california the worst situation we get in they walk out the door and they're like go yeah just drop the proposal in my mailbox or something it's like no like yeah yeah yeah they're just dropping something off because we get reps so it's just like yeah you know not like come in a mall it's been okay they're gonna just come chop it off or something to you i was like no guys tell them that we're like sitting down tell them that yeah gonna meet up so that's good well cool man well it's been great uh jam with you here
00:36:45
Speaker
bringing up objections beforehand.
00:36:47
Speaker
And then if people want to connect more with you or I don't know, maybe ask you more
Connect with Amanda and Closing Offers
00:36:52
Speaker
questions.
00:36:52
Speaker
Are you on like social media or anywhere people can connect with you more?
00:36:56
Speaker
Yeah, I'm on Instagram.
00:36:58
Speaker
Let me see what my name is.
00:37:01
Speaker
That's terrible.
00:37:02
Speaker
We'll put it in the show notes after.
00:37:04
Speaker
All right.
00:37:05
Speaker
Sweet.
00:37:05
Speaker
Yeah, we can just put it in the show notes.
00:37:08
Speaker
I have it actually.
00:37:10
Speaker
Okay.
00:37:10
Speaker
It's A underscore Barry B E R R Y 224.
00:37:14
Speaker
So yeah,
00:37:31
Speaker
And then any final advice or any, I don't know, any last secrets that you would share with maybe someone struggling or someone new in the industry?
00:37:43
Speaker
Just work the hours and then it pays off.
00:37:46
Speaker
The harder you work, it starts just coming.
00:37:52
Speaker
It's just get on the stride, like get the momentum.
00:37:55
Speaker
And then everything just starts flowing after you work and work and work.
00:38:00
Speaker
because you learn how to adjust yourself to different situations.
00:38:03
Speaker
Yeah, love it.
00:38:05
Speaker
And then do you have, does your company give you like, do they want you to be working these hours?
00:38:10
Speaker
Do they let everyone kind of just make their own schedules?
00:38:14
Speaker
They let everyone work their own schedules.
00:38:16
Speaker
So yeah, so I choose to go out early in the mornings.
00:38:21
Speaker
Awesome.
00:38:22
Speaker
I appreciate you coming on the show, guys.
00:38:27
Speaker
Show her some love.
00:38:28
Speaker
Let her know you appreciate her driving five hours just to come do this podcast.
00:38:32
Speaker
And I hope to have you on someday for a follow-up.
00:38:35
Speaker
And thanks, Kim, for coming on, Amanda.
00:38:37
Speaker
Yeah, definitely.
00:38:38
Speaker
Thank you.
00:38:38
Speaker
Okay.
00:38:38
Speaker
All right.
00:38:39
Speaker
Peace.
00:38:40
Speaker
