The Power of Mind in Racing

00:00:00
Speaker
I think the biggest thing that I took out of the whole thing is how powerful our mind is.
00:00:04
Speaker
It can either make or break the race.
00:00:07
Speaker
So when I was doubting myself, I always tried to push it, even if it was saying I was just going to come in top 50 and I was going to be fine with that.
00:00:19
Speaker
But it's
00:00:20
Speaker
it's controlling your mind and it's, it's making sure you push that negative energy and just, just keep going.

Spotlight on Sasha Goldsberry

00:01:06
Speaker
We are featuring some of our athlete success stories, and we are really excited to have athlete Sasha Goldsberry, who has been working with Coach April, who's been working with
00:01:16
Speaker
For how long now has it been?
00:01:19
Speaker
Since I think like January, Sasha.
00:01:22
Speaker
Yeah.
00:01:23
Speaker
She's dedicated.
00:01:25
Speaker
Yeah.
00:01:26
Speaker
I don't know.
00:01:26
Speaker
It's been a few months and we have really loved it.
00:01:32
Speaker
It's just been a great partnership.
00:01:34
Speaker
Yeah.
00:01:34
Speaker
It's been amazing.
00:01:36
Speaker
We're super proud of you and your result at Galveston 70.3 qualifying for the 70.3 World Championship in November this year.
00:01:46
Speaker
We have a special interview with you.
00:01:48
Speaker
We have a few things we're going to get to before we get there, but we're glad you're here.
00:01:52
Speaker
April, hola.

Coach April's Cancun Experience

00:01:56
Speaker
Come with the VN little sunburn.
00:01:59
Speaker
Yes, I am coming to you all from Cancun, Mexico.
00:02:03
Speaker
It's a hot is white sand beaches, gorgeous waters, and it's the sunny side of vacation.
00:02:09
Speaker
We're actually here celebrating my mom's 60th birthday.
00:02:13
Speaker
It really has been an incredible vacation so far.
00:02:15
Speaker
And I'm I'm you'd be proud of me, Coach Rich.
00:02:18
Speaker
I'm doing a good job of not getting sunburned too crisp.
00:02:23
Speaker
It's probably hard to do.
00:02:25
Speaker
Yeah.
00:02:26
Speaker
You should see my family.
00:02:28
Speaker
We are white, white, like translucent.
00:02:32
Speaker
And now they all are walking around here like lobsters.
00:02:35
Speaker
So it's pretty bad.
00:02:39
Speaker
Whiter than my legs were the other night or the other day, rather running on the Santa Fe trail.
00:02:45
Speaker
Although I had to wear sunglasses looking at your legs there.
00:02:48
Speaker
Yeah.
00:02:49
Speaker
Nice.
00:02:49
Speaker
For those who are trying to figure out what the heck we're talking about, I happen to have a fantastic opportunity to be down in Colorado Springs on Wednesday morning and got a chance to run on the Santa Fe Trail with Coach April.
00:03:02
Speaker
It showed me a nice, beautiful trail.
00:03:04
Speaker
We had a great run and kind of a midweek meeting, too.
00:03:08
Speaker
While we were taking off the miles, we were checking off the agenda items, which I thought was kind of fun.
00:03:15
Speaker
Folks, we're glad you're here with us.

Sponsor Highlight: Generation UCAN

00:03:17
Speaker
Before we get started, let's give a shout out to our show sponsor, Generation UCAN.
00:03:21
Speaker
UCAN created LiveSteady as an alternative to sugar-based nutrition products.
00:03:25
Speaker
LiveSteady was purposely designed to work with your body, delivering long-lasting energy you can feel.
00:03:30
Speaker
Whether it's UCAN energy powders, bars, or gels, LiveSteady's unique time release profile allows your body to access energy consistently throughout the day, or your race, or your training, unlocking your natural ability to finish stronger and recover more quickly.
00:03:44
Speaker
April, what do we have in today's show?

Episode Segments Overview

00:03:46
Speaker
We got a jam-packed show.
00:03:49
Speaker
We have first our announcements and news, and then I'm so excited to bring on Sasha.
00:03:55
Speaker
We're going to talk about her success at qualifying for World 70.3 and Marbella, Spain.
00:04:02
Speaker
She actually crushed it in Galveston, which was not an easy course this year by any stretch.
00:04:08
Speaker
We're going to go over our get greedy tip, which is talking about our training camp.
00:04:13
Speaker
It's going to be our run focus camp.
00:04:15
Speaker
We're going to go in detail over the schedule and then we'll talk about our tryout workout of the week.
00:04:21
Speaker
We're going to break it down with a marathon repeat and finish her off with a fun segment.
00:04:28
Speaker
Rich, this is called triathlon truth or trash talk.
00:04:32
Speaker
Are you ready to talk trash today?
00:04:35
Speaker
Let's talk some trash.

Vespa Power Interview Tease

00:04:36
Speaker
I'm ready.
00:04:36
Speaker
Let's go.
00:04:36
Speaker
I love it.
00:04:38
Speaker
Let's go.
00:04:40
Speaker
All right.
00:04:40
Speaker
That's awesome.
00:04:41
Speaker
Great, great overview, April.
00:04:43
Speaker
And let me give you an idea of what's coming up in some of our upcoming programming.
00:04:48
Speaker
Next week, we are really excited to have a special guest.
00:04:52
Speaker
This is a, we don't usually do a lot of like product kind of interviews anymore.
00:04:57
Speaker
But this is something that's been really different for me personally, for a lot of the athletes I work with, and that's Vespa Power.
00:05:04
Speaker
It's a
00:05:05
Speaker
an amino acid formula that really helps kind of shift your body into fat burning mode.
00:05:09
Speaker
We're going to be talking to the president of Vespa Power, Peter Defty.
00:05:14
Speaker
And April, Coach April, this was actually introduced to me by Coach K. Coach K made the introduction, swears by this.
00:05:23
Speaker
And now I do too.
00:05:24
Speaker
In fact, actually, I just had a call with one of my athletes, Caroline, competitive Caroline,
00:05:30
Speaker
who just had this freaking blowout workout that just, I'm like, how are you not completely fried?
00:05:38
Speaker
And she swears that Vespa is crack for athletes, she says.
00:05:45
Speaker
There's a lot of drug metaphors on this podcast all of a sudden.
00:05:52
Speaker
Sorry, Sasha.
00:05:53
Speaker
We really are not an endorsement of that kind of stuff.
00:05:56
Speaker
But anyway, we've got that special guest.
00:05:58
Speaker
Then we have another athlete highlight that we're going to have.
00:06:02
Speaker
Paul Hunziker, one of my athletes who just had a breakout marathon again using Vespa.
00:06:09
Speaker
But we're going to talk to him about his success and what the formula, you know, what's gone into his training to create this outcome.
00:06:16
Speaker
Very similar to what we're going to do with Sasha today.
00:06:19
Speaker
We also have some a we're going to have our webinar May 13th.
00:06:24
Speaker
That is going to be a Boulder 70.3 race recon.
00:06:27
Speaker
We will replay that for the podcast that weekend.
00:06:30
Speaker
Then May 24th, we are going to be doing swim camp highlights and interviews.
00:06:35
Speaker
And May 31st, bike camp highlights and interviews from the previous week.
00:06:41
Speaker
So very exciting.
00:06:42
Speaker
And speaking of that camp, the Grit to Greatness training camp is still open today.
00:06:48
Speaker
Not for long, I hope.
00:06:49
Speaker
May 17th, 18th, we have the swim focus in Colorado Springs in Chatfield.
00:06:53
Speaker
That's going to be pool focused on Saturday, open water focused on Sunday.
00:06:58
Speaker
May 24th through the 25th, we're going to be in Chatfield both days, both Saturday and Sunday with a bike focus.
00:07:05
Speaker
which we talked about this schedule last week.
00:07:08
Speaker
And then May 31st through June 1st, a run focus camp, Boulder both days.
00:07:13
Speaker
And we are going to go into that full detail here in just a little while after our fabulous, fabulous chat here with Sasha.
00:07:22
Speaker
So April, over to you.
00:07:25
Speaker
All right, well, I have been soaking up the sun and recharging on the beaches of Cancun.
00:07:30
Speaker
The endurance world has not slowed down.
00:07:33
Speaker
Actually, there's Ironman Texas taking off this weekend, which I'm super excited to watch.
00:07:40
Speaker
We got Coach K and Coach Michael Fenton both.
00:07:44
Speaker
I think Kelly Mulvaney is also racing.
00:07:46
Speaker
So lots of tri-daughters, coaches, all getting after it.
00:07:51
Speaker
I'm excited to see them, how they do.
00:07:54
Speaker
So like I said, the endurance world has not slowed down one bit.
00:07:59
Speaker
And honestly, we haven't either.
00:08:02
Speaker
So whether you're lounging poolside or grinding through peak training like Sasha, we're
00:08:07
Speaker
We've got a show packed with everything you need to stay inspired and on track.
00:08:11
Speaker
But next up, let's introduce today's Ask a Coach sponsor, and that is Grit to Greatness Endurance Coaching.
00:08:20

00:08:51
Speaker
So better training starts now.
00:08:53
Speaker
Click the links in our show notes and let's go.
00:08:56
Speaker
Let's go.
00:08:57
Speaker
Okay.
00:08:58
Speaker
She has been patiently waiting, going through this ham bone of a introduction to this podcast.
00:09:05
Speaker
So let me bring her in.
00:09:07
Speaker
Today's guest is living proof that grit, guts, and a game time mindset can take you all the way to the world stage.
00:09:15
Speaker
After conquering her very first, let me say that again, very first Ironman 70.3 on one of the wildest race days in recent memory, I want you to think canceled swim, 30 to 40 mile per hour wins, and an epic bike crash.
00:09:33
Speaker
She didn't just finish strong.
00:09:34
Speaker
She qualified for the world championships in Marbella, Spain.
00:09:38
Speaker
Her story is a story about rising to the occasion when the conditions are anything but ideal, trusting your training and showing up with purpose.
00:09:47
Speaker
Please welcome to the show, Sasha Goldsberry, a first time 70.3 finisher, world championship qualifier and a force to be reckoned with.
00:09:56
Speaker
Welcome Sasha.
00:09:58
Speaker
Thanks.
00:10:00
Speaker
It's humbling.
00:10:04
Speaker
Makes me tear up a little bit.
00:10:06
Speaker
We're so happy to have you here, Sasha.
00:10:09
Speaker
Yeah.
00:10:10
Speaker
I'm happy to be here.
00:10:12
Speaker
Well, we are really eager to tell your story and we want to learn so much more about you, but we have this little icebreaker that we want to play with you.
00:10:22
Speaker
Hopefully April gave you fair warning on this, but if not, here it comes.
00:10:26
Speaker
No.
00:10:26
Speaker
This icebreaker is called Two Truths and a Lie.
00:10:30
Speaker
We are going to ask you for three statements about yourself, two of which you know to be true, one that is a deceitful lie, and we're going to try to pick the lie out of the bunch.
00:10:42
Speaker
And we're just going to have a little fun with this.
00:10:45
Speaker
It can be anything in the world.
00:10:46
Speaker
We've heard it all.
00:10:47
Speaker
I guarantee it.
00:10:49
Speaker
Oh, man.
00:10:51
Speaker
So I have to make this up?
00:10:55
Speaker
Okay.
00:10:56
Speaker
Well, one of them has got to be made up.
00:10:58
Speaker
The other two have got to be real.
00:10:59
Speaker
And you've got to be really careful about how you work.
00:11:02
Speaker
Yeah, yeah.
00:11:04
Speaker
Okay.
00:11:05
Speaker
I am one of five kids.
00:11:11
Speaker
I was born and raised in Colorado.
00:11:15
Speaker
I have never been to Spain.
00:11:24
Speaker
Never.
00:11:24
Speaker
Okay.
00:11:25
Speaker
Awesome.
00:11:25
Speaker
So I'm going to recap.
00:11:27
Speaker
You're one of five kids.
00:11:29
Speaker
You were born and raised in Colorado and you have never been to Spain yet.
00:11:36
Speaker
Okay.
00:11:37
Speaker
Yet.
00:11:38
Speaker
All right.
00:11:39
Speaker
Since I'm new to the game here with you, I am going to say you have been to Spain.
00:11:47
Speaker
I think that's the lie.
00:11:50
Speaker
You were born in Colorado and you are one of five kids.
00:11:55
Speaker
All right.
00:11:55
Speaker
All right.
00:11:56
Speaker
Don't say it yet, Sasha.
00:11:57
Speaker
I'm going to guess.
00:11:58
Speaker
I'm going to guess.
00:11:59
Speaker
Okay.
00:12:02
Speaker
I think that she hasn't been to Spain.
00:12:07
Speaker
I think that I'm thinking she's one of six kids.
00:12:12
Speaker
Oh, you think that's the lie?
00:12:14
Speaker
Yeah.
00:12:16
Speaker
All right.
00:12:16
Speaker
So, so if coach April thinks that you have more siblings than four,
00:12:23
Speaker
And I think that you have been to Spain before.
00:12:29
Speaker
What was the lie?
00:12:31
Speaker
I've never been to Spain.
00:12:33
Speaker
I've been to Spain.
00:12:35
Speaker
I've been to Spain.
00:12:36
Speaker
I've been to Barcelona.
00:12:38
Speaker
And, but there, so that was my lie.
00:12:41
Speaker
And then I was like, I said it wrong.
00:12:42
Speaker
You're doing fine.
00:12:48
Speaker
So, so awesome.
00:12:50
Speaker
Win one for coach.
00:12:51
Speaker
I got it wrong is what it is.
00:12:53
Speaker
I said she has been to Spain, but then I was thrown out all the things.
00:12:58
Speaker
I say she lied twice.
00:13:02
Speaker
It's okay.
00:13:03
Speaker
Sasha, you're in good, good company.
00:13:05
Speaker
You're all equally confused.
00:13:08
Speaker
We are so excited about your return trip to Spain.
00:13:11
Speaker
Tell us about this one of five kids.
00:13:14
Speaker
Where are you?
00:13:14
Speaker
Are you the oldest, the youngest, somewhere in the middle?
00:13:17
Speaker
I'm the middle child of five.
00:13:19
Speaker
Ooh!
00:13:21
Speaker
Yeah.
00:13:22
Speaker
And then I was born and raised in Steamboat Springs.
00:13:26
Speaker
Oh, wonderful.
00:13:27
Speaker
Nice.
00:13:28
Speaker
Yeah.
00:13:28
Speaker
I knew you were Coloradan.
00:13:30
Speaker
I was like, I know that's the truth.
00:13:33
Speaker
Yep.
00:13:33
Speaker
I would love the idea of you being one of six, but one of five is hella cool, too.
00:13:38
Speaker
So... Five was about south.
00:13:41
Speaker
You know how to pronounce mountains, so I knew that you were from here.
00:13:44
Speaker
I knew how to pronounce mountains.
00:13:48
Speaker
All right.
00:13:48
Speaker
Well, we are ready to get into this interview with you.
00:13:50
Speaker
April, you want to lead us out?
00:13:53
Speaker
Absolutely.
00:13:54
Speaker
Sasha, it has been such a joy working with you.
00:13:57
Speaker
And, um, I, I couldn't have been more proud of how you, uh, have performed from the start to the, um, and we're not finished yet.
00:14:07
Speaker
Don't be wrong, but to your first race was, it was, it was such a proud moment.
00:14:12
Speaker
I, um, hadn't experienced that as a coach.
00:14:16
Speaker
Um, so to, to, to share that with you and then, um,
00:14:20
Speaker
just continuing this amazing journey is an absolute honor.
00:14:24
Speaker
So I do want to hear from you though on what got you started.
00:14:29
Speaker
Could you tell us a little bit about your endurance journey and what got you interested in 70.3 specifically?

Race Prep Strategies with Coach April

00:14:37
Speaker
Well, I think you'd have to go ways back.
00:14:42
Speaker
When I had my daughter, I actually, prior to having my daughter, I found every excuse not to run.
00:14:48
Speaker
But when I had my daughter, the only time she would go to sleep or silence is in movement.
00:14:55
Speaker
And so I bought a running stroller and I just started running.
00:15:00
Speaker
And then I did a marathon after that, like just on a whim, did a marathon.
00:15:06
Speaker
And then I kind of got hooked after that.
00:15:10
Speaker
The 70.3, I actually originally on my bucket list is an Ironman, a full Ironman.
00:15:16
Speaker
And then my sister-in-law, she snowbirds down in Galveston.
00:15:22
Speaker
And she kept on telling me, she's like, oh, you'd love this race.
00:15:27
Speaker
And they cheer every year for all the competitors.
00:15:31
Speaker
And so that was like three years ago.
00:15:34
Speaker
And then finally, every year I do some sort of race.
00:15:38
Speaker
Like I've done a race in Alaska where you just literally run up a mountain, come back down.
00:15:43
Speaker
And so I find something to try to keep myself motivated in life, I guess.
00:15:48
Speaker
And then this year, my sister-in-law mentioned it.
00:15:51
Speaker
I'm like, let's do it.
00:15:53
Speaker
And I started kind of training for it in November.
00:15:57
Speaker
And then, um, and,
00:16:00
Speaker
I don't know what got into me, but I was like, I want to really do good.
00:16:03
Speaker
I've always just winged it.
00:16:05
Speaker
I've just ran or swam or whatever, and I've just winged it.
00:16:09
Speaker
And so this time I was like, I really want to do good.
00:16:12
Speaker
So I reached out and found you, and there I am.
00:16:18
Speaker
So that's kind of how I picked it was my sister-in-law.
00:16:22
Speaker
She told me about the race down there.
00:16:24
Speaker
And then you told me it was a wonderful race.
00:16:27
Speaker
And I was like, deal.
00:16:32
Speaker
It is.
00:16:37
Speaker
I think every other year except this year.
00:16:39
Speaker
Yes, exactly.
00:16:42
Speaker
I have a follow-up question for you.
00:16:44
Speaker
So you said to yourself, this time I'm going to get serious.
00:16:50
Speaker
What was it that
00:16:53
Speaker
What do you think?
00:16:53
Speaker
Where do you think that voice was coming from?
00:16:55
Speaker
Or like, you know, like, it's a pretty big commitment, right?
00:16:57
Speaker
To hire a coach.
00:16:59
Speaker
But yeah, so I know exactly where it came from.
00:17:01
Speaker
My daughter left for college this past year.
00:17:05
Speaker
So she's a freshman in college.
00:17:07
Speaker
And I think that huge void of my daughter moving away, it just left this emptiness in me.
00:17:16
Speaker
So I'm trying not to cry.
00:17:18
Speaker
But so I was all like, I need to, I need to find something.
00:17:22
Speaker
I need to fill that void instead of just chewing on it.
00:17:25
Speaker
I need to find something to make it, make myself feel good.
00:17:29
Speaker
And so I think that's where that urge came from too.
00:17:33
Speaker
I've always really wanted to do good in races.
00:17:35
Speaker
I've just never put forth like the money or the, the finding out exactly how to do it.
00:17:42
Speaker
So that's where that came from was my daughter going to college and it kind of,
00:17:47
Speaker
it just up the ante on me wanting to do something really cool like this.
00:17:54
Speaker
Wow.
00:17:54
Speaker
You are living the dream.
00:17:56
Speaker
I love that.
00:17:58
Speaker
Yeah.
00:17:58
Speaker
Yeah.
00:17:59
Speaker
You're doing podcasts.
00:18:00
Speaker
Next thing you know, you know, you can be doing commercials.
00:18:03
Speaker
I don't think so.
00:18:04
Speaker
Yeah.
00:18:11
Speaker
One thing I love about Sasha is that she has just this beautiful heart and it's easy to want to support her.
00:18:21
Speaker
And the great thing about Galveston is that she had like her whole family came out.
00:18:25
Speaker
Right.
00:18:25
Speaker
And then they told her, like, you qualify for Spain.
00:18:29
Speaker
We're going out there.
00:18:30
Speaker
And she's like, oh, OK.
00:18:32
Speaker
Not thinking like thinking, oh, that's great.
00:18:34
Speaker
But like, really, are you really going to come out there as soon as as soon as she qualified?
00:18:39
Speaker
I think there's 16 people, Sasha.
00:18:41
Speaker
Yeah, they're coming out to Spain.
00:18:43
Speaker
I mean, that's just fantastic.
00:18:45
Speaker
That just speaks to how how amazing you are and how much people want to support you.
00:18:50
Speaker
And I'm so glad that you were able to recognize
00:18:55
Speaker
the timing of shifting focus on your goals and what you want to get after.
00:18:59
Speaker
And it's just been a joy to come alongside you and not only like coach you, but also witness, witness you hitting these amazing milestones and really, really enjoying the journey and, and just all the things that are going to come with this as we continue on.
00:19:16
Speaker
It's just really a blessing.
00:19:18
Speaker
So I wanted to call that out too, is that Sasha's just has a heart of gold.
00:19:24
Speaker
So thank you.
00:19:27
Speaker
There were some real curveballs that came at this amazing race.
00:19:33
Speaker
Like you said, oh, this is a beautiful location.
00:19:35
Speaker
I told you that when we first started working together.
00:19:37
Speaker
This is a great one for a first timer, right?
00:19:39
Speaker
So that was proved to be the exact opposite.
00:19:43
Speaker
This one was brutal.
00:19:45
Speaker
There was no swim because of how nasty the weather got and the winds.
00:19:51
Speaker
I want to ask you,
00:19:53
Speaker
How were you able to adapt to your race plan when you learned that the swim was canceled?
00:20:00
Speaker
I didn't, I didn't do it gracefully.
00:20:04
Speaker
There was a lot of tears.
00:20:07
Speaker
My daughter was amazing.
00:20:09
Speaker
And my husband, they really talked me through that morning because really my swimming, I feel as my strong suit, like I can swim.
00:20:18
Speaker
So when I heard that was canceled, I was devastated.
00:20:21
Speaker
And I thought,
00:20:22
Speaker
for sure, I wasn't going to do good in the race.
00:20:25
Speaker
I just couldn't imagine doing good in the race without that kind of padding it.
00:20:31
Speaker
So anyway, after I felt sorry for myself, I was just like, I'm here.
00:20:35
Speaker
I got to go.
00:20:36
Speaker
Right.
00:20:37
Speaker
So I just, I just put it in the back of the, my mind and
00:20:43
Speaker
figured it out.
00:20:44
Speaker
I mean, I was texting you at, I don't even know what time it was in the morning, like three or four in the morning.
00:20:50
Speaker
And then I, I was super, super blessed to meet amazing people.
00:20:56
Speaker
Um, one of which, um, I call her my tri mom now, but I, uh,
00:21:02
Speaker
I text her at literally 3.30 in the morning going, I don't know what to do.
00:21:07
Speaker
I did not bring warm enough clothes.
00:21:08
Speaker
The Coloradoan did not bring warm clothes.
00:21:12
Speaker
So I was panicking and I asked her if she had extra sleeves and she's like, well, I have extra compression socks.
00:21:18
Speaker
And so anyway, it was stuff like that that got me through to the next step of being able to
00:21:26
Speaker
to race it, to even think about racing it because it was intimidating.
00:21:31
Speaker
That morning was a very intimidating experience for someone.
00:21:35
Speaker
I mean, I've done triathlons, but I have never done a 70.3.
00:21:40
Speaker
So, but that's how, that was just my step.
00:21:44
Speaker
I just put it on the back burner and had the support I needed and went with it.
00:21:50
Speaker
Yeah, and had a wonderful coach.
00:21:56
Speaker
It was great that you could be there to answer those texts early in the morning.
00:22:00
Speaker
Yes.
00:22:00
Speaker
Yes.
00:22:01
Speaker
I was nervous for her too, Rich.
00:22:03
Speaker
I wasn't going to like.
00:22:05
Speaker
It was going through your mind.
00:22:06
Speaker
Yeah.
00:22:08
Speaker
Well, I kept seeing people, you know, I was watching the Facebook, I was watching, uh, tried out other coaches and, and I just kept seeing things like I'm, you know, I decided not to do it.
00:22:20
Speaker
I decided for my own safety.
00:22:23
Speaker
Um, so part of me was like, I don't know if Sasha should do this.
00:22:27
Speaker
Um, because I was genuinely afraid that she was going to get hurt, you know, and, and,
00:22:33
Speaker
That being said, I know she's a grown adult and I know she can, you know, she's, she's got what it takes to grit this out.
00:22:40
Speaker
And I think, you know, I, if I would have said like, I don't think you should do this, it could be taking an opportunity away from her to shine, which is exactly what she did.
00:22:47
Speaker
So yeah, it was very much a dichotomy of like, okay, what, what's, what's appropriate here as a coach, making sure that my athlete is her safety is, is paramount, but also, um,
00:22:58
Speaker
encouraging her um because she is extremely adaptable um just like she said with the compression socks like she didn't tell you she cut a hole in those things pulled them all the way after she wore them as arm warmers it was it was fashionable it was fashionable it was awesome it was great innovation fabulous yeah yes yeah so that's how i don't know huh was i scared like
00:23:27
Speaker
Yeah.
00:23:28
Speaker
Oh, yeah.
00:23:29
Speaker
I felt like, well, to start with, the rain was insane.
00:23:36
Speaker
I mean, when we were waiting there to start the race, it was just downpouring, like just sheets of rain and sheets of rain.
00:23:44
Speaker
And I was just like, what am I doing here?
00:23:46
Speaker
And then the wind was so strong that everybody's bikes were everywhere.
00:23:51
Speaker
My tags
00:23:52
Speaker
my tags on my bike, they all were gone and nobody had their gear actually out of their bags yet.
00:23:59
Speaker
And I was just like, gosh, I don't, I have no idea what I'm doing.
00:24:04
Speaker
Like a zero idea.
00:24:06
Speaker
But I think the scared, what's the word?
00:24:11
Speaker
The most scared I was, was on the bike.
00:24:14
Speaker
I felt like a gigantic weeble wobble because I had just gotten that tri bike
00:24:21
Speaker
what a month prior to this race so I wasn't amazing I wasn't amazing at the aero bars yet but um that was the scaredest I was was that bike ride was insane
00:24:35
Speaker
The bridge that you cross, they have little holes at the bottom of it.
00:24:38
Speaker
And so there was just these huge gusts of wind that just whoop, you were on the other side.
00:24:44
Speaker
And it was just like, oh, but I don't know.
00:24:46
Speaker
I'm not a quitter.
00:24:48
Speaker
I have a really hard time quitting.
00:24:51
Speaker
It's stubbornness maybe, but yeah.
00:24:54
Speaker
So yes, I was scared during that bike ride for sure.
00:25:00
Speaker
Yeah, I'm familiar with those bridges.
00:25:01
Speaker
I've done this race too, but in much better conditions, I'll tell you.
00:25:07
Speaker
I want to go back a little bit, if you don't mind.
00:25:10
Speaker
This is really kind of a question for both you and April.
00:25:14
Speaker
Obviously, the race unfolded the way the race unfolded.
00:25:18
Speaker
but you guys probably spent some time preparing for this coming up with a plan tell tell our audience and share with me if you wouldn't mind just what what were the conversations you had how many conversations did you have you know where you were coming up with a race plan what tools did you use oh man there's so many there was so much new stuff that
00:25:41
Speaker
as April knows, I'm not a tech whiz and the amount of technology that goes along that I had no idea about was insane.
00:25:50
Speaker
But the, as far as our talks go, I think one of the most inspirational things that he did was, um, I forgot what it was.
00:25:59
Speaker
I forgot what you called it, but, um, it's where she told me artists and it was like my, my goals for the race.
00:26:06
Speaker
So I had a Chris Stapleton and a,
00:26:10
Speaker
So anyway, it was like each level of that.
00:26:13
Speaker
And it was my lowest to highest.
00:26:17
Speaker
And that always stood out to me because it always made me think of it like the hardest parts when I was in training.
00:26:24
Speaker
And I was like, oh, my gosh.
00:26:26
Speaker
And then I just thought about those goals.
00:26:27
Speaker
And I'm like, OK, that's what I'm shooting for.
00:26:29
Speaker
That's what I'm shooting for.
00:26:31
Speaker
And then another one is when she told me to come up with a four-word mantra.
00:26:37
Speaker
And I stuck with that.
00:26:40
Speaker
the whole race I had.
00:26:41
Speaker
And then one more thing was right before the race, she told me to have everybody send me their quotes, their favorite, most inspirational quotes.
00:26:52
Speaker
And I did, and I wrote them on my arm, my forearms and granted with all the rain, most of it was washed away, but it was the fact it was there.
00:27:03
Speaker
It, I just thought about that.
00:27:04
Speaker
I thought about the love that went into me getting here and,
00:27:08
Speaker
all the inspiration from it.
00:27:10
Speaker
So those were the biggest things that, but there was tons and tons of conversation on, especially my meltdown days on how to, how to just stick to the plan.
00:27:26
Speaker
So that's what sticks out to me the most.
00:27:30
Speaker
I'm sure April has better.
00:27:33
Speaker
No, that was beautiful, Sasha.
00:27:35
Speaker
I'm honored.
00:27:37
Speaker
Oh, me too.
00:27:38
Speaker
I'm super lucky to have you as a coach.
00:27:41
Speaker
Oh, that's awesome.
00:27:42
Speaker
I got to say, when I saw that picture, because we shared it in the Team Grit to Greatness Facebook group, there were so many people that found that inspirational, Sasha.
00:27:51
Speaker
So I wanted to say thank you for being willing to share that, too.
00:27:55
Speaker
But yeah, that that meant a lot to me, too, that you were willing to share your goals with me, that we could create it into a aspirational achievement as well as, hey, what are we going to do?
00:28:09
Speaker
When the setback hits, right?
00:28:11
Speaker
What are we going to do when those tough days happen?
00:28:14
Speaker
And you had one of the toughest on race day.
00:28:17
Speaker
So I really just want to say thank you for being willing to get vulnerable with me on those things, too, because that that's what makes or I would say makes or breaks the coaching relationship is our ability to lean on each other and be OK with sharing when we're not in a great space.
00:28:35
Speaker
So, yeah.
00:28:36
Speaker
Yeah, well, I was super grateful for it.
00:28:38
Speaker
Definitely got me through the race.
00:28:39
Speaker
I don't know if I would have made it to that race without you.
00:28:42
Speaker
I had a lot of doubts.
00:28:43
Speaker
So, yeah.
00:28:46
Speaker
Let me just share one more thing too, Rich, because this is how amazing this turned out to be, right?
00:28:52
Speaker
So she was referring to her goals, right?
00:28:55
Speaker
So we did, we came up with, and I asked her like, what are some, you know, what are some things that inspire you?
00:29:01
Speaker
And she came up with three rock stars that she loves.
00:29:05
Speaker
So her, when we talk about Adele, Chris Stapleton, Jelly Roll, I'm going to read the goals that are associated with that.
00:29:12
Speaker
So
00:29:14
Speaker
We'll go with Adele.
00:29:15
Speaker
Adele is top 50 within her age group.
00:29:18
Speaker
Chris Stapleton was sub seven hours and Jelly Roll was minimal damage and a smile on my face as I crossed the finish line.
00:29:28
Speaker
She not only placed top 50 within her age group, she placed within top 50 of her gender.
00:29:36
Speaker
She freaking rocketed past Adele like that.
00:29:40
Speaker
That just goes to show you how how strong and just incredible this performance was.
00:29:46
Speaker
So I got to say that to Sasha, that you blew all three of those out of the water with a smile on your face.
00:29:54
Speaker
Yeah, well, she couldn't have her swim.
00:29:59
Speaker
Yeah, exactly.
00:30:00
Speaker
And swimming is her strongest discipline.
00:30:03
Speaker
Your strongest card, your highest card was taken away from you.
00:30:06
Speaker
You didn't have that.
00:30:07
Speaker
Yeah.
00:30:08
Speaker
Yeah.
00:30:10
Speaker
Yeah.
00:30:11
Speaker
It was crazy.
00:30:17
Speaker
Well, for we talked a lot about the condition, so I'm actually going to move on a little bit here.
00:30:23
Speaker
Yeah.
00:30:25
Speaker
I want you to take us back to when you heard that you qualified for 2025 Ironman 70.3 world championships.

Qualifying for World Championships

00:30:33
Speaker
What was going through your mind when you found out you made it, Sasha?
00:30:37
Speaker
Talk to me about that moment.
00:30:38
Speaker
I'm going to try not to cry again, but it was kind of disbelief.
00:30:46
Speaker
I have a really hard time accepting my accomplishments sometimes.
00:30:51
Speaker
Mm-hmm.
00:30:52
Speaker
And so it was disbelief.
00:30:55
Speaker
But when I found out it's like cloud nine, it was just like all the dedication, all the hard work, all of it just all of a sudden paid off.
00:31:05
Speaker
And it was just like the best feeling in the whole world of China.
00:31:08
Speaker
I'm an emotional person, but, um, so it was just, it was just one of those things where it's all like, I don't know the,
00:31:19
Speaker
after my daughter moved in a way and everything like that, the purpose of life is a little harder.
00:31:25
Speaker
Not that my daughter's not my life anymore, but you know what I mean?
00:31:27
Speaker
The purpose is you're trying to find something.
00:31:30
Speaker
And then it's almost like I found it.
00:31:33
Speaker
Like I found the niche.
00:31:34
Speaker
I found the place I'm supposed to like put all my energy towards.
00:31:39
Speaker
So it was just, it was cloud nine.
00:31:41
Speaker
It was amazing.
00:31:43
Speaker
And then of course my family in the background was hooting and hollering and
00:31:48
Speaker
I felt like a celebrity.
00:31:49
Speaker
It was so cool.
00:31:52
Speaker
It was really cool.
00:31:55
Speaker
Yeah.
00:31:56
Speaker
When you called me, I just immediately burst into tears.
00:31:59
Speaker
It was the coolest thing ever.
00:32:02
Speaker
Yeah.
00:32:03
Speaker
I tell you what, when I, so I have to tell this story because it's really cool.
00:32:07
Speaker
Cause I was really doubting myself during that race.
00:32:10
Speaker
After I crashed on the bike, I, um,
00:32:14
Speaker
I got back up and I was just like thinking to myself, okay, you just have to keep going.
00:32:19
Speaker
My bike was making a weird noise.
00:32:21
Speaker
I was like, just make it through this part.
00:32:24
Speaker
And then when I got off my bike, I was kind of hurting from the fall.
00:32:29
Speaker
And so I started running and the first loop was, it was hard.
00:32:35
Speaker
It was daunting.
00:32:36
Speaker
And then my family, I was just waiting to see them.
00:32:42
Speaker
And so I'm running along and then they're just like,
00:32:44
Speaker
you know, just going crazy cowbells and everything like that.
00:32:49
Speaker
And so it pushed me to the next.
00:32:51
Speaker
And then the next loop went around and my daughter says, mom, mom, you're in place.
00:32:57
Speaker
And I was all like, what?
00:33:00
Speaker
I thought I was going to be dead last in this thing.
00:33:04
Speaker
I was like, okay.
00:33:05
Speaker
So just like push me to that next, like, just keep going.
00:33:08
Speaker
You're in pain.
00:33:09
Speaker
Just.
00:33:10
Speaker
And every time someone passed me on that run, I was all like,
00:33:13
Speaker
you're competing against yourself.
00:33:15
Speaker
So I kept on looking at my watch.
00:33:17
Speaker
I'm like, just make sure you're staying below.
00:33:21
Speaker
I was trying to stay below like 10 minute miles.
00:33:24
Speaker
And, um, so I just kept on like going back and forth to that.
00:33:29
Speaker
Well, when I, when I crossed that finish line, I just,
00:33:34
Speaker
I was shaking and I was crying and I just couldn't believe it.
00:33:38
Speaker
I couldn't believe because my daughter's like, eighth place, mom, eighth place.
00:33:42
Speaker
And I was just like, I couldn't believe it.
00:33:44
Speaker
I was like, oh my gosh, that whole run.
00:33:46
Speaker
I was telling myself, just try to get in that top 50.
00:33:50
Speaker
Try to get in the top 50.
00:33:52
Speaker
You know what I mean?
00:33:53
Speaker
Because I did have a lot of people passing me on the run.
00:33:56
Speaker
But anyway, so I don't know why I got on that.
00:34:00
Speaker
It was one of those...
00:34:04
Speaker
It was great.
00:34:05
Speaker
First of all, what, I mean, you just took us through a story of some pretty serious adversity, right?
00:34:14
Speaker
The crash, you get back up, you're riding, you're hearing something strange with your bike.
00:34:21
Speaker
You're just basically trying to survive.
00:34:23
Speaker
And then you find out later that you're in fifth place.
00:34:28
Speaker
What did that teach you or what would be your recommendation or advice to others when they feel down and out, whether they're in a race or not, based on your experience?
00:34:48
Speaker
I think the biggest thing that I took out of the whole thing is how powerful our mind is.
00:34:54
Speaker
It can either make or break the race.
00:34:57
Speaker
So...
00:34:58
Speaker
When I was doubting myself, I always tried to push it, even if it was saying I was just going to come in top 50 and I was going to be fine with that.
00:35:08
Speaker
But it's it's controlling your mind and it's it's making sure you push that negative energy and just just keep going, because the worst thing that you could possibly do is.
00:35:22
Speaker
I don't know.
00:35:24
Speaker
I mean, I feel as long as you try your hardest, you should be super proud of yourself and not get in your way because I think we have a tendency of being too hard on ourselves and we're out there.
00:35:40
Speaker
I mean, I don't know what percent of people go out to a 70.3, but it's not a very high percent.
00:35:46
Speaker
So at least we're one of those people trying.
00:35:50
Speaker
So yeah.
00:35:50
Speaker
I don't know if that answered that, but it's your mind.
00:35:54
Speaker
You just have to, yeah, you have to push that negative behind you.
00:36:00
Speaker
Yeah.
00:36:00
Speaker
Beautifully said and such wisdom.
00:36:03
Speaker
My follow-up question, my next question is,
00:36:09
Speaker
sounds like you made a heck of an impression on your daughter.
00:36:11
Speaker
It sounds like your daughter had just as good of a day as you had, right?
00:36:15
Speaker
What does that mean to you as a mom to make that impression on your daughter?
00:36:21
Speaker
And what do you think she's taking away from what you're doing?
00:36:27
Speaker
Oh man, I am really going to cry.
00:36:31
Speaker
Um, first off my daughter's my inspiration.
00:36:34
Speaker
She, um,
00:36:36
Speaker
she has done some amazing things in her young life and she's pushed, pushed through some, some really tough challenges and she always is on top of it.
00:36:48
Speaker
She's always coming out on the other side.
00:36:51
Speaker
Um, so I guess I just always want to prove to her that regardless of how tough it is, we're strong enough.
00:36:59
Speaker
We can do anything you put your mind to,
00:37:03
Speaker
I just never wanted to quit in life because there are a lot of challenges in inside and outside of racing.
00:37:09
Speaker
Right.
00:37:10
Speaker
So it's just about pushing through and finding your passion and going with it, regardless of your thoughts or other people's thoughts for that matter.
00:37:24
Speaker
Wow.
00:37:25
Speaker
Do they have a triathlon club at your daughter's school?
00:37:29
Speaker
think so oh thank you wow yeah another beautiful answer thank you okay sasha this is uh this is right in the feels this uh conversation i'm so appreciative of uh of your willingness to share with us um
00:37:53
Speaker
Okay, so we're thinking about Spain, right?
00:37:56
Speaker
What are you most excited about when you think about racing in Spain?
00:38:02
Speaker
Oh, the experience, right?
00:38:05
Speaker
I mean, you're in an amazing location.
00:38:11
Speaker
And I guess regardless of the outcome of that race, I'm there, right?
00:38:18
Speaker
It's like my...
00:38:20
Speaker
I don't know.
00:38:21
Speaker
It's a miracle for me, like kind of in my head, I had no idea.
00:38:26
Speaker
Like I was pushing for it.
00:38:27
Speaker
You know, I was, but in, I always kept it.
00:38:32
Speaker
I always kept it like down a little bit so I didn't get too excited and then be disappointed.
00:38:38
Speaker
So I think just being there is going to be the most exciting thing in the whole wide world and having my family there as well.
00:38:47
Speaker
I mean, I can't, I can't tell you how important, how amazing that is, is I live and breathe my family.
00:38:55
Speaker
So to have them there to support me, that and being there is going to just be amazing, regardless of what comes of it.
00:39:05
Speaker
I told Coach Matt, Coach Julie, who Sasha knows from Trot Out Pool School, I was like, we need to go out there and be there for Sasha.
00:39:13
Speaker
Come on.
00:39:13
Speaker
It's like, we got to figure out a way to get out there.
00:39:16
Speaker
Yeah, yeah.
00:39:16
Speaker
We're just so excited for you.
00:39:20
Speaker
Tony, get a plane and fly us there.
00:39:24
Speaker
Yeah, come on, Tony Washington.
00:39:25
Speaker
We need you to come and clutch on this one.
00:39:28
Speaker
Speaking of getting there, this is, again, a question for both you, Sasha, and Coach April.
00:39:38
Speaker
Just kind of curious, I'm sure that you've started the conversations, but how are you architecting
00:39:47
Speaker
the rest of this season how what is going into your planning process well um sasha first off she has some unfinished business that she wants to take care of she's signed up for uh boulder 70.3 because she she wants to show her stuff on the swim so that's next on the docket um and honestly i think
00:40:10
Speaker
like she said, getting to Spain is more like, I would say a victory lap.
00:40:14
Speaker
I'm really excited for her to really enjoy and, and just be present in the moment.
00:40:20
Speaker
She's an awesome climber.
00:40:21
Speaker
So I think that's really going to play to her strengths in Spain.
00:40:24
Speaker
So she gets to have fun with that too.
00:40:26
Speaker
And, um,
00:40:27
Speaker
When we looked at I was looking at her SWOT analysis that we did before before getting ready for Galveston, there are some big things that she crossed off in that.
00:40:38
Speaker
So I'm excited to redo this with her and get some some new ideas here.
00:40:42
Speaker
But I just want to share like.
00:40:44
Speaker
She did Trot Out Pool School and just completely, again, improved on an already beautiful swim.
00:40:53
Speaker
And I think she's going to get to display all of that at Boulder in Spain, just to see the fruits of all of her labor.
00:41:00
Speaker
She actually went to a camp at Texas 70.3 and did a full on immersion.
00:41:06
Speaker
So she, again, just takes this very seriously.
00:41:10
Speaker
Like she said, she focuses hard on the goals that she wants to achieve.
00:41:13
Speaker
And I think all these things about her are what makes her not only a great participant, but a great competitor.
00:41:20
Speaker
And I'm excited to see her compete again at Boulder and then taking that into Spain.
00:41:25
Speaker
So thinking about the SWAT, those are the things that we want to get after is just
00:41:29
Speaker
fine tuning and enhancing her strengths and, and looking for opportunities like grit to greatness camp.
00:41:35
Speaker
She's going to be out there for that.
00:41:37
Speaker
She really wants to hone in on her run technique.
00:41:39
Speaker
So we talked about the fabulous Bobby McGee.
00:41:43
Speaker
So we're, we're definitely taking advantage of opportunities here to, to continue to fine tune, but she's, she's such a, a rock star.
00:41:51
Speaker
So can't wait to see what, what comes of the next few months of training and, and focusing.
00:41:58
Speaker
Yeah.
00:41:59
Speaker
I think, um, I think she said it beautifully as always.
00:42:05
Speaker
But, um, in addition to that, there's a lot of stuff that I learned from this race.
00:42:09
Speaker
I learned that I do want to focus on some more like strength training.
00:42:16
Speaker
Um, I want to like fix my running is very, very important to me because that is definitely, um, slowing me down a little bit.
00:42:27
Speaker
And then just honing in on my bike.
00:42:29
Speaker
I need to become one with that bicycle.
00:42:34
Speaker
Not that I didn't train a lot previously, but now I know how crosswinds and stuff feel on an aero bike.
00:42:41
Speaker
I really want to be able to get that down because I was training in the wintertime, so it was a little harder to
00:42:49
Speaker
get outside in crosswinds.
00:42:52
Speaker
But yeah, I think just, yeah, fine tuning certain things and then figuring out other things.
00:42:59
Speaker
Nutrition is always a struggle for me.
00:43:02
Speaker
So I think that also is going to be a key point in this one is to fine tune my nutrition.
00:43:11
Speaker
Yeah.
00:43:12
Speaker
Okay.
00:43:12
Speaker
Nutrition, run form, strength training.
00:43:17
Speaker
One with the bike.
00:43:18
Speaker
Yeah.
00:43:19
Speaker
And one with the bike.
00:43:22
Speaker
And yeah, you're right.
00:43:23
Speaker
With all that indoor training, it's really hard with an early spring 70.3 to be kind of, you know, road skill ready for conditions.
00:43:32
Speaker
You know, it's, you know, we talk about race specific training.
00:43:37
Speaker
And the things that you can do, you know, like maybe you can anticipate the wind.
00:43:41
Speaker
You just can't, can't, you can't anticipate everything.
00:43:44
Speaker
You can't simulate everything.
00:43:45
Speaker
On a gnarly day?
00:43:46
Speaker
Heck no.
00:43:46
Speaker
You gotta be out there.
00:43:48
Speaker
Yeah.
00:43:49
Speaker
Yeah.
00:43:51
Speaker
Fabulous.
00:43:53
Speaker
Well, let me hit you with one more question here, Sasha.
00:43:57
Speaker
You are a complete inspiration and I'm sure there's a lot of people that might be hearing you that have never done anything like this, but they might be considering it

Encouragement for Aspiring Triathletes

00:44:07
Speaker
now.
00:44:07
Speaker
What would you just say to someone who's thinking about doing their first 70.3, but doubts that they can?
00:44:15
Speaker
Oh man, just do it.
00:44:16
Speaker
We only live once.
00:44:19
Speaker
I mean, if there's something you want to do, just
00:44:22
Speaker
Just do it.
00:44:23
Speaker
Just go out.
00:44:23
Speaker
I mean, I would say for this distance, it's better to get some coaching if you're able to.
00:44:33
Speaker
But there's also great, like even on Facebook, they have great groups that you can join that can help you out through it.
00:44:42
Speaker
And just have a good support system to find the people that are there to support you and just go for it.
00:44:49
Speaker
We only live once and we might as well
00:44:51
Speaker
get everything you want to do into this one life we have, you know, that's what I would say.
00:44:57
Speaker
One wildlife.
00:44:58
Speaker
Yeah.
00:45:00
Speaker
Yeah.
00:45:01
Speaker
Well, and your key to success, which is the mental game of it, the mental toughness, the mental resilience, the mental preparation that the two of you did that, that collaboration really paid dividends.
00:45:15
Speaker
So anyway, congratulations.
00:45:17
Speaker
Wow.
00:45:17
Speaker
Thank you.
00:45:19
Speaker
Thank you.
00:45:19
Speaker
Can't wait to see you at the camp.
00:45:21
Speaker
Yeah, I'm excited.
00:45:23
Speaker
I'm excited.
00:45:24
Speaker
Speaking of the camp, how about that for a segue?
00:45:27
Speaker
That's perfect, Rich.
00:45:31
Speaker
We are going to do our Get Gritty tip, which is really just to take you through the third camp of May.
00:45:38
Speaker
This is the last weekend of May, the Grit to Greatness Run Focus Camp, May 31st through June 1st.

Grit to Greatness Camp Details

00:45:46
Speaker
Day one, May 31st, is going to be at East Boulder Community Center.
00:45:51
Speaker
That's there at 5660 Sioux Drive in Boulder.
00:45:57
Speaker
The day is going to kick off at 8 a.m.
00:46:00
Speaker
right there in the parking lot under our tent.
00:46:03
Speaker
We're going to have coffee and carbs.
00:46:05
Speaker
And then we are going to...
00:46:11
Speaker
Do some mobility Monday.
00:46:13
Speaker
We've got, we are going to do it kind of Erin Carson style.
00:46:19
Speaker
We're actually going to hope maybe we can get her out there to come visit with us, but we are going to do some mobility to get ourselves ready to run.
00:46:25
Speaker
Then 10 o'clock, we are going to be doing a transition clinic today.
00:46:31
Speaker
So we're going to be working through kind of the transition area around the run, which is mostly around kind of T2 and how to get through there as fast as as fast as you can at all distances.
00:46:46
Speaker
And then we are going to have a lunch and learn.
00:46:48
Speaker
And at our lunch and learn, it is.
00:46:53
Speaker
going to, oh, sorry, Lunch and Learn is actually going to be just a discussion with Coach April and myself.
00:47:00
Speaker
I'm getting ahead of myself.
00:47:01
Speaker
I was thinking, where's Bobby McGee in all of this?
00:47:04
Speaker
Wait, there's more.
00:47:05
Speaker
Then
00:47:07
Speaker
Because people have their race rehearsals for Boulder 70.3 on that Saturday, we are having lunch a little early.
00:47:17
Speaker
That's why the 11 a.m.
00:47:18
Speaker
lunch.
00:47:19
Speaker
Because at 12 o'clock, we are going to start race rehearsals.
00:47:21
Speaker
And some people's race rehearsals are going to be...
00:47:25
Speaker
Depending on if they're doing short course, they might only have two hours, but we're going to have folks that might have as much as three and a half hours, followed by a 40 minute run.
00:47:34
Speaker
So the idea is that we are all going to be out there training together, cheering on each other when we're done.
00:47:41
Speaker
If the folks have shorter rides will be done earlier, we'll cheer on the others.
00:47:45
Speaker
And then at five o'clock, we're going to do a after everybody's all done, we'll bring some body wipes.
00:47:51
Speaker
Yeah.
00:47:55
Speaker
Or we'll have a figure out a hose out there in the parking lot.
00:47:57
Speaker
I don't know.
00:48:00
Speaker
But we'll go down to Avanti food and beverage there on Pearl Street.
00:48:07
Speaker
For the box lunches for that lunch and learn, let us know if you have any food allergies or restrictions, dietary restrictions.
00:48:15
Speaker
Bring your bike gear because we are doing a ride that day too.
00:48:19
Speaker
So that's your pump, your helmet, your shoes, of course, your bike, your bottles, your nutrition emergency kit.
00:48:24
Speaker
Bring in your transition bag, bring some sunscreen, rubber bands.
00:48:29
Speaker
You're going to need that for the clinic.
00:48:33
Speaker
Transition.
00:48:34
Speaker
and bring your running gear, your running shoes, running hats, sunglasses.
00:48:38
Speaker
Day two, we're going to be back out there at the rec center or at the community center.
00:48:43
Speaker
Meet up at 8.30 for coffee and carbs.
00:48:47
Speaker
And then we are going to...
00:48:49
Speaker
do some mobility, and then we're going to get into a run video analysis.
00:48:55
Speaker
So we're going to get some video of folks.
00:48:58
Speaker
We will capture that video of you.
00:49:00
Speaker
We'll share a slow-mo with you.
00:49:03
Speaker
And then we will kind of go through some on-the-spot there feedback.
00:49:10
Speaker
Then at 10 o'clock, we're going to be doing run drills and mechanics.
00:49:14
Speaker
We are very excited.
00:49:18
Speaker
We are actually going to be instructing the run drills and mechanics.
00:49:23
Speaker
And then at 12 o'clock, we have a legendary coach, running coach, Bobby McGee coming to correct whatever April- Correct our drills.
00:49:32
Speaker
Yeah.
00:49:35
Speaker
And be there to answer any questions.
00:49:38
Speaker
No, in all seriousness, a lot of the instruction that Coach April and I have is from the Ironman U certification and Coach Bobby McGee actually teaches the run mechanics as a part of the Ironman U certification.
00:49:55
Speaker
So
00:49:56
Speaker
Hopefully we will be on the same page, only he will be able to take it to a whole nother level.
00:50:01
Speaker
The things that we aren't able to answer, I'm sure he will be able to.
00:50:04
Speaker
Yes.
00:50:05
Speaker
Then after being inspired by that talk with Coach Bobby McGee, we are gonna go do our long run.
00:50:13
Speaker
So everybody's probably got a long run on their calendar that Sunday.
00:50:16
Speaker
And this is again in preparation, race rehearsals for Boulder 70.3.
00:50:22
Speaker
We'll do those long runs.
00:50:23
Speaker
And then at 3 p.m., we're gonna do camp awards and closing.
00:50:28
Speaker
And April, can you give us a teaser about the awards?
00:50:31
Speaker
Okay, yes.
00:50:33
Speaker
So they will be a hand painted, sorry, geez, I'm
00:50:41
Speaker
losing it right now.
00:50:42
Speaker
I'm so excited about it.
00:50:43
Speaker
Okay, folks, I'm excited.
00:50:45
Speaker
I'm going to be doing watercolor painting for these awards, and they will be Colorado themed.
00:50:52
Speaker
So I'm not going to give much more than that away, but you'll get a lovely Colorado themed watercolor painting, and then Rich and I will make sure to personalize them once the winners have been announced.
00:51:04
Speaker
Awesome.
00:51:05
Speaker
Cool, cool.
00:51:07
Speaker
Of course, what to bring.
00:51:08
Speaker
Please bring your run gear.
00:51:10
Speaker
This is going to be a run focus day from beginning to end.
00:51:13
Speaker
Running shoes, running hats, sunglasses, transition bag, bring a towel, bring sunscreen.
00:51:21
Speaker
And yes, I think that does it for that.
00:51:24
Speaker
You know, am I rolling into the the try not work out?
00:51:28
Speaker
I would love it if you would.
00:51:29
Speaker
Yeah.
00:51:30
Speaker
Take that on my friend.
00:51:32
Speaker
You got it.
00:51:32
Speaker
Here we go.
00:51:33
Speaker
Going to keep rolling then.
00:51:34
Speaker
So this week's workout, try it out workout of the week, our marathon repeats.
00:51:39
Speaker
One of my favorite for the run.
00:51:41
Speaker
This session is designed to build aerobic endurance while reinforcing efficient running mechanics, critical for running performance.
00:51:48
Speaker
There you go, Sasha.
00:51:49
Speaker
So this is right up your alley.
00:51:51
Speaker
Okay.
00:51:52
Speaker
The workout begins with a dynamic warmup, including form focus drills like A and B skips, endurance skipping, asymmetric arm swings, all aimed at activating the neuromuscular system and improving stride mechanics.
00:52:06
Speaker
Skipping for height and distance builds power and coordination while walking lunges, and one of my favorites, and leg swings increase mobility and prime the lower body.
00:52:17
Speaker
Let me just say, folks, I did see this.
00:52:21
Speaker
Coach Rich, when we went on our trail run last Wednesday, I verified he does do a lot of walking lunches.
00:52:29
Speaker
Get out of here, man.
00:52:32
Speaker
And I did them afterwards.
00:52:33
Speaker
Yeah, I saw that.
00:52:36
Speaker
Hip openers.
00:52:37
Speaker
Yeah, yeah.
00:52:38
Speaker
Psycho.
00:52:40
Speaker
So, well, I am, as they say, I am eating my own dog food.
00:52:47
Speaker
Yeah, it's good.
00:52:48
Speaker
It's good.
00:52:51
Speaker
But your money in your mouth is.
00:52:53
Speaker
Exactly.
00:52:56
Speaker
All right.
00:52:56
Speaker
So what we're trying to do with this workout is reinforce proper running form under fatigue, build aerobic base and muscular endurance, develop coordination, mobility, and neuromuscular activation, and
00:53:14
Speaker
So think about marathon repeats.
00:53:16
Speaker
Marathon repeats are kind of right there in that zone three range.
00:53:21
Speaker
That is your race pace typically for a half Ironman like Sasha's getting ready to do again here shortly.
00:53:30
Speaker
So you're doing this warmup.
00:53:32
Speaker
In this warmup, you're going to do a two to three minute jog followed by two by 10 yards or 10 meters of each of the following drills.
00:53:39
Speaker
Endurance skipping, A skips, walking lunges, asymmetric arm swings, like we just said, B skips, skipping for height and distance, and then knock out a few 40 to 60 yard strides, which are a basically a certain not quite at wind sprint level, but they're, you know, they're zone four, zone five pace.
00:54:00
Speaker
then do some leg swings and then get into your main set.
00:54:06
Speaker
Do, you know, kind of get into the warmup.
00:54:08
Speaker
You can even run.
00:54:09
Speaker
I mean, honestly, you can put this, this is a mostly a zone to run with a 10 minute zone three effort, one single interval in this case, right in the middle.
00:54:22
Speaker
You can either do that 10 minute interval up at the front where you kind of get it out of the way and then you can just settle into your pace or
00:54:28
Speaker
Or if you want to really kind of test yourself is,
00:54:32
Speaker
Do that last 10 minute, do that 10 minute zone three effort closer to the end in the second half of your run to teach yourself to build into a pace and know what it's going to feel like to experience more fatigue later on in the race.
00:54:48
Speaker
And then do the balance or your, your cool down in zone two.
00:54:52
Speaker
How about that, April?
00:54:53
Speaker
Get it.
00:54:54
Speaker
Get it, coach Rich.
00:54:55
Speaker
I love that.
00:54:56
Speaker
That's a little, that's a good challenge right there.
00:54:59
Speaker
Add the spice at the end.
00:55:01
Speaker
Yeah.
00:55:02
Speaker
Add that spice at the end.
00:55:03
Speaker
I like that.
00:55:06
Speaker
This is actually something, you know, just to take this a step further, since we're talking about, you know, taking it to the next level type of techniques that come in when we're, when you really, when you like work with a coach,
00:55:20
Speaker
My coach, Coach Mark Allen, often will have me do that.
00:55:23
Speaker
You know, as I get closer to a race, instead of doing your threshold and hold where you do 10-minute warm-up, do your zone four, and then you do your zone three, and then you settle in for the zone two, uh-uh, flip it around.
00:55:37
Speaker
Do the zone two up front.
00:55:39
Speaker
Get yourself nice and fatigued.
00:55:41
Speaker
Then do those two long zone threes, and then save those spicy zone fours for the end.
00:55:50
Speaker
It's a whole enchilada right there.
00:55:55
Speaker
I like it.
00:55:56
Speaker
Sasha, you might be seeing that on a couple of these workout builds.
00:56:01
Speaker
Yeah, exactly.
00:56:01
Speaker
Thank you.

Triathlon Truth or Trash Talk

00:56:10
Speaker
Oh, it's awesome.
00:56:12
Speaker
All right.
00:56:12
Speaker
This is the moment, y'all.
00:56:14
Speaker
This is our fun segment, Triathlon Truth or Trash Talk.
00:56:19
Speaker
So this is a lighthearted round of opinionated tri-talk with no arrow helmet, where no arrow helmet is safe.
00:56:27
Speaker
So welcome, Rich and Sasha, to Triathlon Truth or Trash Talk.
00:56:33
Speaker
I'm going to ask questions that no one dares to.
00:56:36
Speaker
We're going to encourage hot takes and nothing in triathlon is sacred.
00:56:41
Speaker
From gear obsessions to race day superstitions, we're diving into the spicy stuff.
00:56:46
Speaker
I mean, it's right there.
00:56:47
Speaker
Spicy stuff today.
00:56:48
Speaker
Get ready to defend your opinions.
00:56:51
Speaker
So...
00:56:53
Speaker
Since there's three of us on this, I think what I'm going to do is, what do you think?
00:56:58
Speaker
I could ask both of you and you give me an answer?
00:57:01
Speaker
Yeah, why don't you moderate it?
00:57:04
Speaker
Yeah, sounds good.
00:57:05
Speaker
All right, all right.
00:57:06
Speaker
So, Sasha and Rich, if you could eliminate one discipline from triathlon and still call it a triathlon, which one are you cutting?
00:57:16
Speaker
Running.
00:57:17
Speaker
Running.
00:57:21
Speaker
This coming from the bike runner who qualified for world championship.
00:57:28
Speaker
I know.
00:57:28
Speaker
I love it.
00:57:31
Speaker
You would cut the running.
00:57:32
Speaker
You know what?
00:57:32
Speaker
Honestly, I would probably cut the running too.
00:57:35
Speaker
It is not my, it is of the three disciplines.
00:57:38
Speaker
It's my weakest of the three disciplines.
00:57:41
Speaker
So I'm right there with you, Sasha.
00:57:42
Speaker
Is that okay that we, is it, can we, do I have?
00:57:44
Speaker
Absolutely.
00:57:45
Speaker
This is no opinion is off the table.
00:57:49
Speaker
Opinion is off the table.
00:57:50
Speaker
I third that decision.
00:57:52
Speaker
I am also going to say the run.
00:57:54
Speaker
I think,
00:57:55
Speaker
If I, you know, I think aqua bike is a very amazing sport.
00:58:00
Speaker
And I do think that if there's a point where I can't run anymore, like that's what's going to keep me in in multi sport is that beautiful, beautiful discipline.
00:58:10
Speaker
Aquabike World Championship in Omaha.
00:58:15
Speaker
I'm doing it.
00:58:17
Speaker
I know.
00:58:18
Speaker
I love that.
00:58:19
Speaker
I'm so excited for you.
00:58:21
Speaker
I wish I was going next year, next year.
00:58:25
Speaker
All right.
00:58:26
Speaker
Second question.
00:58:27
Speaker
What's the most overrated piece of tri gear?
00:58:36
Speaker
The trisuit.
00:58:36
Speaker
Sasha, go ahead.
00:58:41
Speaker
Tell me more, Sasha.
00:58:42
Speaker
Tell me more.
00:58:42
Speaker
Put it out there.
00:58:43
Speaker
Put it out there.
00:58:45
Speaker
It's never been so complicated to go to the bathroom in my entire life than trying to get out of a trisuit that you're just dripping off of.
00:58:53
Speaker
Yeah.
00:58:53
Speaker
Yeah.
00:58:54
Speaker
Oh, yes.
00:58:55
Speaker
Good one.
00:58:56
Speaker
Good one.
00:58:59
Speaker
Wow, that is a great one.
00:59:01
Speaker
Shoot.
00:59:03
Speaker
I'm trying to be different than that, but I think that I really have to agree with you, Sasha.
00:59:10
Speaker
Can I share a piece of triathlon equipment that is, yes, it's not a very common piece of equipment, but you do see them out there.
00:59:19
Speaker
And it's like one of those things that I bought thinking this might be a good idea.
00:59:23
Speaker
Please tell us, Rich.
00:59:27
Speaker
Have you ever seen those little tiny inflatable...
00:59:31
Speaker
pools that you can have in a transition area to like rinse your feet off of.
00:59:38
Speaker
Oh, no.
00:59:39
Speaker
They're like about this big.
00:59:42
Speaker
They're like a little bit bigger than your feet.
00:59:44
Speaker
No, you didn't.
00:59:45
Speaker
You can blow it up and pour water in there.
00:59:48
Speaker
I bought that and I took it to a race and I couldn't even make myself inflate it and fill it up with water.
00:59:55
Speaker
I was so embarrassed that like, I don't know what I was thinking.
00:59:59
Speaker
Anyway.
01:00:01
Speaker
I'm sure it's still out like in a drawer somewhere in the garage.
01:00:05
Speaker
Please find it.
01:00:06
Speaker
Please bring it to our next race.
01:00:08
Speaker
That is the best.
01:00:10
Speaker
Yes, please do it.
01:00:11
Speaker
I think that needs to come out of hiding.
01:00:15
Speaker
That's so over the top.
01:00:18
Speaker
I'll donate.
01:00:21
Speaker
Yes.
01:00:22
Speaker
Yes.
01:00:23
Speaker
There you go.
01:00:25
Speaker
It'll go to, someone's going to win that.
01:00:28
Speaker
Yeah, that should be a part of this.
01:00:29
Speaker
Like, we should have a raffle.
01:00:31
Speaker
Like a drawing.
01:00:32
Speaker
A drawing for the transition pool.
01:00:36
Speaker
Oh my goodness.
01:00:38
Speaker
Okay, alright.
01:00:39
Speaker
Next question.
01:00:41
Speaker
Would you rather DNF because of a mechanical?
01:00:45
Speaker
Or finish last with a perfect race?
01:00:48
Speaker
I know what Sasha's gonna say.
01:00:50
Speaker
But let me hear it.
01:00:52
Speaker
Uh, finish.
01:00:53
Speaker
Finish.
01:00:54
Speaker
Yeah.
01:00:55
Speaker
I'd always want to finish a race.
01:00:57
Speaker
She doesn't quit y'all.
01:00:59
Speaker
She doesn't quit.
01:01:00
Speaker
That's right.
01:01:02
Speaker
Yeah.
01:01:02
Speaker
I'm right there with you.
01:01:03
Speaker
I walked 26 miles of, well, 20 miles of Boulder 70 dot or Boulder Ironman one year.
01:01:09
Speaker
So I'm with you.
01:01:12
Speaker
You go down, you go down swinging.
01:01:17
Speaker
I love that.
01:01:18
Speaker
You had a near mechanical in, in Galveston.
01:01:21
Speaker
So now you got to your bike all taken care of.
01:01:25
Speaker
Yeah, it is.
01:01:27
Speaker
I had wonderful people to help me out with that, but I just had to replace a few things and it's back and running.
01:01:33
Speaker
I ordered a part that's missing because it broke off, but outside of that, goodbye.
01:01:41
Speaker
Yes.
01:01:43
Speaker
She's got an awesome whip.
01:01:45
Speaker
It's awesome.
01:01:46
Speaker
All right.
01:01:48
Speaker
What is your go-to power song on race morning and what's your actual... Okay, what is your go-to and what is your actual guilty pleasure song you'd never admit to blasting?
01:02:01
Speaker
That's hard because I don't remember song names.
01:02:03
Speaker
I have to look it up.
01:02:06
Speaker
Rich goes for it first on this one.
01:02:13
Speaker
Say that again, April.
01:02:15
Speaker
Okay, so what is your go-to power song?
01:02:19
Speaker
And then what's your actual guilty pleasure song that you'd never admit to blasting?
01:02:24
Speaker
So there's two songs.
01:02:28
Speaker
Go to power song.
01:02:31
Speaker
It would have to be it is a it is a variation of we will rock you.
01:02:37
Speaker
That is very kind of like uptempo.
01:02:43
Speaker
Okay.
01:02:45
Speaker
And it's hard to find, but it's like, that is going to be, if like, I'm going to pick a song, like big power song.
01:02:53
Speaker
That's it.
01:02:53
Speaker
That's the one.
01:02:54
Speaker
Okay.
01:02:55
Speaker
Is it like 180 beats per minute kind of thing?
01:02:57
Speaker
Like when you say uptempo?
01:03:00
Speaker
Yes.
01:03:00
Speaker
Okay.
01:03:01
Speaker
All right.
01:03:01
Speaker
All right.
01:03:02
Speaker
I'm imagining.
01:03:02
Speaker
Yeah.
01:03:06
Speaker
Yeah, it's perfect.
01:03:08
Speaker
And I just, I need beats like that, right?
01:03:12
Speaker
Okay, so then, did you say guilty pleasure?
01:03:15
Speaker
Yeah, I said a guilty pleasure.
01:03:16
Speaker
Like one that you are like ashamed to admit blasting.
01:03:20
Speaker
Like, I'm sure you blast baby shark to get you pumped up.
01:03:27
Speaker
You should see Richie's got a hand over his face right now.
01:03:31
Speaker
You're going to die when you hear this?
01:03:36
Speaker
Neil Diamond Forever in Blue Jeans.
01:03:40
Speaker
No!
01:03:46
Speaker
Wow.
01:03:49
Speaker
Every opinion is welcome.
01:03:53
Speaker
Just being honest.
01:03:54
Speaker
That's an interesting song, Rich.
01:03:58
Speaker
No, I'm going to play it on my next workout.
01:04:00
Speaker
That's fantastic.
01:04:02
Speaker
That's hard.
01:04:03
Speaker
I don't know if I have
01:04:05
Speaker
um i think rise up have you ever heard of that song by andre i was trying to look for it um oh yes yes andre day yes yes rise up oh that's a great song and then i don't know if it's
01:04:22
Speaker
I feel bad about it, but the Benson Boone song where he's just, I forgot the name of that.
01:04:29
Speaker
The one that's really popular.
01:04:30
Speaker
Beautiful things.
01:04:32
Speaker
Yes.
01:04:33
Speaker
I love that song.
01:04:35
Speaker
Probably listening to me sing that song is the embarrassing part.
01:04:39
Speaker
Oh, I love that.
01:04:42
Speaker
Sing out loud.
01:04:43
Speaker
Oh, that's me and, yeah, Ferver and Blue chains too.
01:04:47
Speaker
That's great.
01:04:48
Speaker
That might be more entertaining though.
01:04:51
Speaker
All right.
01:04:56
Speaker
No karaoke for this crew.
01:04:58
Speaker
No, no way.
01:05:00
Speaker
No.
01:05:01
Speaker
All right.
01:05:02
Speaker
I got a couple more questions I'll throw out at you guys.
01:05:05
Speaker
Okay.
01:05:05
Speaker
So if Iron Man added a fourth leg, what should it be?
01:05:14
Speaker
You got to think now, like hard.
01:05:16
Speaker
It's got to be hard.
01:05:18
Speaker
Can't be some namby pamby stuff.
01:05:23
Speaker
It's Iron Man.
01:05:24
Speaker
It can be mentally or physically or both.
01:05:26
Speaker
Oof, that's hard.
01:05:36
Speaker
Do you want to hear mine?
01:05:38
Speaker
Yes.
01:05:39
Speaker
Save us.
01:05:40
Speaker
I think that the fourth leg should be motivational speaking.
01:05:46
Speaker
Oof.
01:05:51
Speaker
You know, some people, their biggest fear is public speaking.
01:05:54
Speaker
So I think I got a B. Okay.
01:05:59
Speaker
Yeah, yeah, sure.
01:06:00
Speaker
All right.
01:06:01
Speaker
I think you're going to like draw a different crowd.
01:06:06
Speaker
They got to do swim, bike, run before they can get up on stage and speak.
01:06:10
Speaker
How about you have to design the funniest Iron Man sign?
01:06:19
Speaker
That's the fourth leg.
01:06:21
Speaker
Okay.
01:06:21
Speaker
All right.
01:06:22
Speaker
Like, you know, like, like I saw one recently that was, don't worry, I'll stop your garment if you pass out.
01:06:31
Speaker
Yes.
01:06:34
Speaker
Man, you guys were going all.
01:06:35
Speaker
Remember, you paid for this.
01:06:36
Speaker
Or yeah, you paid for this.
01:06:38
Speaker
Or yeah, or yeah, you know, your feet hurt because you're kicking so much ass.
01:06:42
Speaker
You know, whatever.
01:06:43
Speaker
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:06:44
Speaker
You have to come up with one that would get all the votes, you know?
01:06:48
Speaker
That's a good one.
01:06:51
Speaker
I was thinking pure torture.
01:06:53
Speaker
I was thinking like rope climbs and a cross.
01:06:56
Speaker
Torture.
01:06:57
Speaker
Torture's good.
01:06:58
Speaker
Yeah, just continue the pain.
01:07:01
Speaker
Do it like a rope climb at the end when you're completely done.
01:07:09
Speaker
Oh, that's decent.
01:07:11
Speaker
I like it.
01:07:12
Speaker
Yeah, that's torture.
01:07:15
Speaker
I was thinking pull-ups, but April would beat me at pull-ups.
01:07:18
Speaker
Yeah.
01:07:19
Speaker
Yes.
01:07:21
Speaker
Great answers.
01:07:23
Speaker
Okay.
01:07:25
Speaker
You guys.
01:07:26
Speaker
All right.
01:07:26
Speaker
All right.
01:07:28
Speaker
Okay.
01:07:30
Speaker
I'm not going to ask this one.
01:07:31
Speaker
I'm going to go on to the next one.
01:07:32
Speaker
Okay.
01:07:33
Speaker
If you could swap bodies with a pro triathlete for one race, who would it be and why?
01:07:42
Speaker
I can't answer this one because I'm not good with names.
01:07:46
Speaker
I would say any of them because they all look spectacular.
01:07:51
Speaker
Okay.
01:07:52
Speaker
Yeah.
01:07:56
Speaker
I think I would go with the Puke and Dragon, my band Christian Blumenfeld.
01:08:02
Speaker
Really?
01:08:03
Speaker
Yeah.
01:08:04
Speaker
Yeah.
01:08:04
Speaker
Yeah.
01:08:04
Speaker
He did cross my mind.
01:08:06
Speaker
Yeah.
01:08:08
Speaker
Steamroller.
01:08:11
Speaker
I'm going to go with Lionel Sanders.
01:08:13
Speaker
Okay.
01:08:13
Speaker
Yeah.
01:08:14
Speaker
That was my second.
01:08:14
Speaker
I mean, they're tied.
01:08:16
Speaker
They're tied.
01:08:16
Speaker
Okay.
01:08:16
Speaker
You can take Lionel.
01:08:17
Speaker
I'll take Christian.
01:08:18
Speaker
Was I supposed to pick a female?
01:08:21
Speaker
No, no.
01:08:22
Speaker
Anyone.
01:08:23
Speaker
You could swap bodies with any pro triathlete for one race.
01:08:27
Speaker
Yep.
01:08:28
Speaker
So yeah.
01:08:30
Speaker
Awesome.
01:08:31
Speaker
Okay.
01:08:31
Speaker
I'll ask one more here.
01:08:35
Speaker
What's one race ritual or superstition you swear by, even if it makes zero scientific sense?
01:08:56
Speaker
I can't have anybody talk about if I'm winning or anything that's going to happen during the race like 24 hours prior.
01:09:06
Speaker
I feel like it jinxed it.
01:09:08
Speaker
So I don't want to say I'm going to win it.
01:09:10
Speaker
I don't want to say what I'm going to do for 24 hours prior to it.
01:09:14
Speaker
Because I feel like I'm going to jinx the race.
01:09:18
Speaker
Yeah, I love that.
01:09:19
Speaker
I think that's good.
01:09:23
Speaker
Let me tell you about a weird superstition that I have, and it's been proven right every single time.
01:09:31
Speaker
It's not triathlon related, but anytime I watch the Vikings play, and the Vikings are my football team, anytime I watch the Vikings play, they lose.
01:09:41
Speaker
They freaking lose.
01:09:43
Speaker
And they had a great season last year.
01:09:46
Speaker
I didn't watch a single game until I watched their last game.
01:09:50
Speaker
Maybe I broke the curse, but no, no, it's terrible.
01:09:54
Speaker
Y'all.
01:09:55
Speaker
I have the same thing with the Broncos.
01:09:58
Speaker
Oh goodness.
01:09:59
Speaker
Race related though.
01:10:00
Speaker
This is a serious thing.
01:10:02
Speaker
You just, you don't want to violate this.
01:10:05
Speaker
This is,
01:10:07
Speaker
There's no scientific proof behind this, but you can't.
01:10:11
Speaker
It is totally superstitious to wear your race shirt before the race, before you finish the race.
01:10:19
Speaker
You can't put that on until you have actually crossed the finish line.
01:10:23
Speaker
That's a good one.
01:10:26
Speaker
Hand slap that, yes.
01:10:28
Speaker
Yes.
01:10:29
Speaker
Do not wear that shirt until after race day.
01:10:33
Speaker
Right?
01:10:34
Speaker
You got to earn it.
01:10:36
Speaker
Wearing the shirt on, like in the race, you're like, wait a minute.
01:10:40
Speaker
Yes.
01:10:40
Speaker
You can't wear that yet.
01:10:42
Speaker
That's bad luck.
01:10:43
Speaker
That's bad luck.
01:10:45
Speaker
That's going to be a disaster for you, mate.
