Speaker: Hello everyone and welcome back to another episode of the Kate Hamilton podcast. So today's episode I'm taking it back to a little bit of a solo one. and I want to try and get a little bit of a mix of everything in. I want obviously to be interviewing lots of different interesting people in relation to the areas of health, fitness, mental health,
Speaker: wellness, personal development, manifestation, spirituality, business, and all things that make up me. But I also feel that it might be time to get back to these little solo ones. So My solo ones before have been very educational. You know, we talk about calorie deficits. We talked about protein. We have talked about everything, anything that is to do with health, fitness and fat loss. And a little bit of my of a little bit of mindset thrown in there also.
Speaker: But what I want, what I want to test out and look, anyone who's been here long enough, you've seen me test out different approaches with this podcast as well. And i don't want this podcast to sit in one box. I, you know, I want this podcast to be me.
Speaker: And as you can see, it's imperfect. It's a little bit all over the place at times, but it's authentic. And it is all with the intention of helping. And that will be very, very different.
Speaker: week to week, basically. So what I want to test out is doing a weekly podcast. So it's Friday as I'm recording this. I might try and put it out on a Friday as well, so it won't go out today. So if you're listening to this, it might be next Friday by the time it's out. But um where I just do a little bit of a weekly recap, a weekly recap of my thoughts, my ideas, my teachings, my life, anything that I feel i have been reflecting on this week is That might help others. So that's what I'm going to try. This could be really all over the place. This might be not something to run with, but sure. Only time will tell.
Speaker: So let's go.
Speaker: So first thing that actually has come up this week. So in our Nourish Her group call, and which is the weekly group call that we do with our Nourish Her coaching clients and myself, Coach Sarah, Coach Charlotte, and we have a group call with the clients every week. i am I host it and we talk about whatever's coming up for the clients week to week. you know So if people are struggling with protein or they're struggling with motivation or You know, whatever it is that's coming up, we kind of, you know, we on the spot coaching, help people have a discussion around different topics that come up. And it's just really, really nice face to face time.
Speaker: But we finish. So these actually, these calls quite often get very deep because if I've learned anything over the past six years of helping women achieve their health goals,
Speaker: is it is so much more than just calories and protein and strength training and walking. It's so much deeper than that. So these chats that we do every Wednesday actually end up being a lot deeper than you would think. We spend a lot of time talking about limiting beliefs, about psychology, about goals, about self-sabotaging behaviors, and about your own confidence and connecting back to your values and who you are and what's important to you. So we do a lot of work around that because from my experience, what holds us back from reaching our goals are all of these subconscious thoughts and behaviors that are keeping us trapped.
Speaker: and It's a massive passion of mine. It is very much where the direction you're going to see me talking a lot more about because I want to do more than just help women lose weight.
Speaker: Yes, like I believe that losing weight for health reasons is a huge part of your journey to health. But it's so much deeper.
Speaker: And when I think about my own health and fitness goal. And how much it completely changed my life. Like completely transformed my life to the point that you know a whole new career change has happened. And I'm not saying that everyone needs to go change their careers or upend their whole lives. But the identity that I stepped into and developed.
Speaker: reconnecting back with myself, what that resulted in, in the external of my life is just mind blowing. But that all happened with a huge connection inwards.
Speaker: And it wasn't an easy journey. But my point is real lasting change in any area of life, whether we're talking business, whether we're talking health and fitness, whether we're talking parenting relationships, it doesn't matter.
Speaker: It comes from slowing down, digging deep and getting to know yourself again and getting quiet enough, quiet enough to block out the noise and listen and feel what it is that you want and what you really want.
Speaker: Anyway, so these weekly calls that we do We always finish it with a little bit of journaling work and I always ask some really uncomfortable questions. Now, it's not a case of I ask the questions and anyone has to read them out loud. It's personal journaling. I'm just facilitating it and everyone's on mute and they're journaling away. And it's lovely. And it just, you know, it it focuses you to do it at least once a week and to kind of start making sense of your feelings, your emotions, your habits, your thoughts.
Speaker: So. The journaling work that we did this week was around the words I am. And I don't think that most of us realize how powerful the words I am actually are and how much and of an impact they make in our lives. And I would urge you now to pause this podcast, get put pen to paper if you're not driving or, you know, doing something, you know, that you actually can or come back to this.
Speaker: Get a journal and as quickly as you can, brainstorm 10 sentences. I am, I am, I am, I am, I am. And whatever word comes to mind. OK, positive or negative. Don't overthink it. Just get down the I am.
Speaker: OK. Because what actually comes out, the i I am, whatever comes after that, is what is creating your reality.
Speaker: So if you are saying, well, you might say, I am Kate. You know, that's fine. You're you're identifying as your name. It could be, I am a mother. i am a wife. I am tired. i am depressed. I am anxious. I am happy. I am...
Speaker: I am a teacher. i am an accountant. I am. and What it actually what.
Speaker: With these i am's, we're putting ourself into boxes. So particularly in relation to okay so our identity, I am Kate, I am a coach, I am a mother and those things are true.
Speaker: But if you're not allowed to use those words, if it's not about what you do.
Speaker: Then who are you? OK, so then that those inner voice and narratives that can go on for people can be, I am fat, i am ugly, I am useless, I am weak, I am not good enough.
Speaker: And.
Speaker: When you start to realize that those kind of I am's are going on inside your head, You're starting to reach the tip of the iceberg of why you hit a wall and you get stuck.
Speaker: Because these thoughts that you're repeating to yourself are creating your identity, which is creating your habits, which is creating your reality. So you are holding yourself back now that like I'm not a huge fan of affirmations. Now, i you know, I know the science behind it. And i think what a lot of people don't realize with affirmations is, you know, there's no point in just saying, you know I am magnificent. I am magnificent. I am beautiful. I am successful. I am abundant. You know, these these affirmations I understand they are hugely effective if used properly.
Speaker: But the problem is most of us are only using them surface level. And if you don't think that you are magnificent or you don't possibly, you couldn't possibly imagine being abundant by you saying that you're not feeling it. OK, and in order to be able to step into that identity that you need to step into to move forward, you need to believe it and you need to be able to feel it.
Speaker: And when it comes to reaching your goals, you have to be able to believe it and feel it before you see it. um So that also means you can see why the importance of baby steps are there. It's it's so, so important to take these baby steps towards your goals.
Speaker: Because they have to be believable that you have to be able to step into that identity. It's like you you don't just step onto the road and run a marathon go do the Dublin Marathon when you haven't ran ever. You know, it it it takes a long time to build up that endurance. And depending on what your inner dialogue is in relation to those, and some of you might really be in a good place being like, I am kind.
Speaker: I am generous. I am connected. You know, you might have some very positive words that you are using there. But if you have negative ones going on, I am no good.
Speaker: I am ugly. I am invisible. I am what whatever it is that's coming up for you. How can you tweak that? What? First of all, being like, is that actually true or is that just something that your subconscious mind has been telling you so long that you haven't even questioned it?
Speaker: What's the alternative to that? So if you say i am Invisible, for example. and And this might sound extreme to some of you, but I talk to a lot of women and you would be shocked at the amount of women who cannot look themselves in the mirror or genuinely say things like I am absolutely disgusted with myself. There we go. That's an I am absolutely disgusted with myself. I have heard that more times than I ever should have.
Speaker: And this is because of how their body looks, for example, or how they haven't prioritized their own health. And rather than being able to be like, I am worthy of this change, I'm worthy of this care.
Speaker: I need to find a way to to to get myself in guess myself into my routine. It's I am disgusted with myself. I am so disappointed with myself. It's that guilt. It's that shame. Yeah.
Speaker: It's massively detrimental and it keeps people in that binge restrict cycle. It keeps people from ever reaching their goals. It's like if we even if we look at it in relation to to women in business, which is a huge passion of mine, the amount of women who don't ever put themselves out there because they don't think they're good enough, no matter how qualified they are, no matter how experienced they are, they don't put themselves out there in that same bold way that men do.
Speaker: And I'm generalizing, obviously, but in general, and there are statistics to back it up as well that I don't have in front of me at the minute. So what I really have been doing a lot of thinking around and we all do it for like, you know, even the little minimal things.
Speaker: And I've been really conscious that i I was away in Berlin for a few days with Dave for my 40th birthday present, which my birthday was in May. This is September. So we're still stretching it out. But and we were away for a few days and I really was thinking about this. I am. and Thought and.
Speaker: I think about how often I use it and I was using it even, you know, in the airport on the way home after having a wonderful few days away and being so lucky to have parents there to to move in and police my children. I feel like, you know, mind my children's the wrong word now that they're 16, 13 and nine, but police them. And for me and Dave to be able to go away carefree for four days was absolutely magnificent.
Speaker: Yes. By the time we were coming home, the airport, I'm tired. I'm sore. I'm this, I'm that. And I'm like, my God, I am.
Speaker: I am tired. I am fed up. I am bored. i am like these. We do this all the time. Like how often are oh I'm wrecked. I'm wrecked. I'm so stressed. I. So we use feelings.
Speaker: And we attach feelings to the I am. You may very well feel tired. You aren't tired. Like that is not who you are.
Speaker: It's how you feel. And when you feel something, there's always a solution to it. As in you can Accept that feeling. You can let it run through you and you can take appropriate action. I am tired means maybe stop running around. Don't force yourself to go to the gym.
Speaker: Prioritize getting to sleep early that night. Have less caffeine close to bedtime. That kind of thing. You know, there's a solution to it. I am anxious and I am depressed are very, very dangerous sayings to be saying to yourself a lot.
Speaker: That doesn't mean that you don't feel anxious and you don't feel depressed, but they are not your identity. They are not who you truly are. Yes, they are feelings that depending on the person will, you know, the the levels of intensity will depend on the level of support that you need to reach out to receive.
Speaker: And when it comes to strong emotions, especially as women, we need to stop realizing that we we need to do it all ourselves. We don't. It takes a village. This is literally why villages were created, why families exist. And I know not everyone's family is particularly supportive, but we what what's the saying? ah Friends are God's way of apologizing for family. you We are in this wonderful world where we get to create who's around us.
Speaker: who we're surround who we surround ourselves with. And it does take a village. And we are living in a world where those supports are available through your doctor, through therapy, through coaching, through family, through friends.
Speaker: All it takes is find one safe person to reach out to, first of all. But just know, no matter what diagnosis you get, I am sick.
Speaker: I am depressed. I am anxious. I am injured. I have an injury. I feel anxious. I feel depressed. I feel sick.
Speaker: I am dealing with sickness. Just take the I am out of it and start using I am really intentionally through your days. Like when you're collecting your kid from school,
Speaker: I am a reliable mother. There you go. That's pretty damn positive, don't you think? When you're cooking dinner, I am an OK cook.
Speaker: When you're going out for your walk, what do I always say? You don't have to do 10,000 steps, 12,000 steps. Just be someone who walks every day. So your I am. I am someone who walks every day. i am someone who exercises. I am someone who goes to the gym. So all of these things are, and the as you, you, you narrate this to yourself as you're doing it. And remember doing this as a, and as a young mother, when my, my 16 year old was a baby and i it was just me and him in the house. So I used to narrate everything i was doing. So, because so I was talking to him, we're just going to go upstairs now. We're going to do this. where And I used to narrate, but you don't to do it out loud. No, you can, if you're in the house on your own, it'll probably be more powerful being like, I am abundant in my wonderful home.
Speaker: I am grateful for my loving family. I am so happy that I have a living room to clean, whatever it is.
Speaker: But using that I am and narrating it To the identity that you're stepping into. So remember, you're not going to step from zero to 100. Make it something that you know deep down that you've just forgotten.
Speaker: And the the wonderful about thing about this is it builds momentum. It's like compound interest. It builds momentum and it grows and it grows and it grows and it grows till suddenly.
Speaker: You turn around and you're like, oh my God, what happened? What happened? How did I become so incredibly powerful and not in an in um a negative way, in a very, very positive way?
Speaker: In relation to business, when
Speaker: when you're creating content i am a content creator when you're putting information out about health and fitness i am a coach
Speaker: i am knowledgeable whatever's coming up for you that's blocking you from taking a step forward in your business or taking the step forward in your your fitness what is the next step and your i am It's just the other side of that block, not 10 miles down the road, just the other side. What's the next thing? And then when that starts to feel easy and that starts to feel natural, you can add to it and you don't have to have the whole journey figured out. Like that's not how life works.
Speaker: Again, what's the saying? When you make plans, God laughs. I'm not a big believer in five year plans. I think I spoke about this in the podcast with Jim Ryan. and I don't have a five year plan.
Speaker: I have a how do I feel? What feels right to do next? Great. What's working? What feels right? What do I lean into? How do I need to pivot? What needs to change? What doesn't what's not working anymore? and That's how I live my life.
Speaker: Very, very intentionally. And yes, I have have a vision of what I want my life to be like. But I don't have it. I don't have it all planned out because I don't know how I'm going to to manifest. And I'm ah conscious of using the word manifest because it's just so overused now. But how I'm going to bring that vision about in my life.
Speaker: But I don't need to know how I don't need to know that whole journey that will come one step, one I am at a time. And just remember that if you take anything from this episode is Just be conscious with your I am's.
Speaker: Right. I think we'll leave it at that. I've loads of other thoughts from this week, but that took 20 minutes. So I think that's enough to sit with for one week. I'll come back next week with another thought and you'll get a real idea as to what's going on inside my head, and which might be a very, very scary place. No, I feel like this, these thoughts by sharing these thoughts, I'm really hoping it will reach some of you deep within and really help move you forward. and So thank you.
