00:00:13
Speaker
Hey folks, welcome to episode number four of the Rhubarb Travelers podcast. We are recording this show on Wednesday, October 22nd, 2025. I'm Blake, and as always, I have with me Damon.
00:00:28
Speaker
How are you doing this week, my friend? It's been a busy week, but I'm excited to talk about my Halloween episode. I always like to go to one of the haunted houses. And this year we went somewhere new, ah which is great. It was very exciting. And there's um there's a lot of news this week.
00:00:46
Speaker
You know, being in every two-week show, I think that things pile up this time. Yeah, they pile up for sure. We kind of got jammed up. And i haven't I still haven't announced my you know super cool thing that I'm going to be doing on Halloween.
00:01:00
Speaker
TikTok and Instagram Reels, but I think it will be for after this episode. Okay. All right. Because I was trying to clean up the room, and then I realized I'm running out of room in my attic, and I couldn't even get the stuff.
00:01:11
Speaker
Normally, what I'll do is, like, you know, a kid, when the parents ask in the clean room to store everything in the closet, I throw everything up in the attic. but Yeah. It's so packed, I can't even throw everything up in the attic. I'll get to it later. Yeah. So where I wanted to record is kind of jammed up. So I'm getting there, though. I'm getting there.
00:01:26
Speaker
Okay.

cool and join And join the Facebook group, too. And join the Facebook group, too. Absolutely. Absolutely. All right. Let's get into some DVC news and tips.

Disney Vacation Club Updates

00:02:19
Speaker
Not a whole lot. ah for these last two weeks, if you are going to Animal Kingdom kingdom Villas, pretty much any time in 2026, you are going to have some refurbishment going on at Animal Kingdom Villas. So Kidani Village is going to have their refurb going on actually now in October 2025. It just started and it is going to last through May of 2026. And Disney always wanting to save a dollar,
00:02:50
Speaker
When May 2026 rolls around and they finish at Kidani, those folks that are doing that refurb are just going to move over to the Jumbo house, and they will be doing refurb at Jumbo from May 2026 to Jan 2027.
00:03:03
Speaker
I mean, I understand how the logistics work, but yeah, like that's a lot of refurb time at Animal Kingdom Villas, for sure. Right. So just be aware of that if you are heading over to Animal Kingdoms anytime Yeah, that takes it off the table for me. I'm going to be honest with you. Like, I'm just not about these places that have refurb. There's so many other places to go. Like, I don't want to go to a place that's doing refurb because you just don't know what you're going to get.
00:03:27
Speaker
Well, let me ask, so what if it's just like a soft refurb where they're just doing the bedding and the sheet? I don't know. All it takes is one morning for them to be up early and for me not to have to be up early, and it's over. So no, I'm staying away, planning myself to be away from any sort of refurbs, that's for sure.
00:03:47
Speaker
Right. and Okay. Okay. The only other bit of news, um and a lot of people may not really care about this, but hang with me till the end. You'll understand why I'm bringing this up. So 2025 DVC property appraisal values are getting ready to come out from the state of Florida. And not surprisingly, the value went up on all 12 of the DVC resorts, which, by the way, it seems odd that there's only 12 DVC resorts. I feel like there should be 20 of them. where I think we're going to get there at some point. Yeah, exactly. All right.
00:04:18
Speaker
And for the first time, there is one resort in the DVC portfolio that is valued over $1 billion. dollars And that is billion with a B, folks.
00:04:29
Speaker
oh Care to guess which one it is? Was it a big one? is I mean, i would I want to say like Riviera, but like, I don't think so. So ri Riviera, is that your final answer?
00:04:40
Speaker
Yeah, I guess so. Okay, you are wrong. It is not Riviera. figured I was. Okay. i don't think it's big enough. All right. So you're on the right track. with saying it's not big enough. Saratoga?
00:04:52
Speaker
It is Saratoga. The first one, right? It's huge, though. that's the That makes sense. Saratoga Springs is now worth over $1 billion, dollars as Dr. Evil would say.
00:05:03
Speaker
All right. So... And the reason I bring all this up is because now that property appraisal values are coming out, that means property tax is going to go up, which means that dues will go up.
00:05:15
Speaker
So if you are possibly looking into buying resale, now is the time to start paying attention to all of the resale sites. Because usually about this time when people get their new property assessments, they're like, I kia can't handle this anymore. It's time to sell. So Usually there is a glut of um inventory on the resale site. So if you're looking to buy resale, you might want to keep an eye out.
00:05:40
Speaker
Gotcha. All right. All right, let's move on to some listener questions. All right. And as promised, Kevin, you get the first question. And this is a really good one, I think. Really good first question.
00:05:52
Speaker
Kevin's question is, what is DVC going to look like in 2042 when those first contracts start to expire? And especially he wants to know about the Crescent Lake Resorts. And we're talking about Beach Club and And boardwalk. And he wants to know, what do we think is going to happen? Are they going to offer extensions? Are they going to resell the same resorts, but with these new resale restrictions that they put on reverse? them Oh, you think that would be awesome.
00:06:20
Speaker
Okay. Yeah. I mean, I'm never about resale. Like for me, like it, there should be no resale at all, but go ahead. Well, then he says, do you demolish it and build new resorts or do you demolish it and extend Epcot? Because they literally back right up to Epcot.
00:06:37
Speaker
Oh, well this is so difficult. Like, what do I want to happen versus what I think will happen? Right. but Yeah, I mean, i would love, i mean, i love Boardwalk. But again, and love a Boardwalk even at the same time, I would say that it's always a little musty smelling over Boardwalk. Yeah.
00:06:53
Speaker
You know, i mean, I think that I would say i'd I would love like ah total refresh. Like you don't need to demolish them, but like a big refresh.
00:07:04
Speaker
And then at that point, like what you would do is you just resell them with the resale restrictions. That's what I would like. Do I think that's going to happen? i don't think so. I think that they're just going to offer extensions to people. I think that that will definitely happen.
00:07:19
Speaker
And then we're going to just have the same resorts. And I don't think there'll be resale restrictions because I don't think they'll make the changes to that. But that's me. I think they've learned from Riviera and the Grand Californian that these resale restrictions are not going quite as well as they thought it would go.
00:07:35
Speaker
But what does it matter to them? Like, they what do they care about the resale market for? Right. I mean, it's not like people aren't buying it at the end of the day. Like, i mean, resale for them is just whatever. Like, you know, I don't necessarily. Well, because if they add on those restrictions, then people are might be a little wary of buying first time.
00:07:57
Speaker
Because they can't resell. Like my thing, the easiest way to to solve all of this is that Disney buys and sells only and nobody else like that. That solves all of the problems. And in other words, someone, their only option is to sell it back to Disney when they're Yeah. I mean, I've talked about this before on the other evil show is that like for me, if you had some sort of resell number that like fluctuated based on whatever you wanted to do.
00:08:22
Speaker
And that was always the number. So you could sell at whatever point you wanted back to Disney. That's way better for me, but that's how I would do it. Yeah. no um I think you're right. As far as offering the extensions, that is the most logical answer.
00:08:37
Speaker
I think they will offer. Well, but then it's logical, of you know, depending on what they decide to do, right? If they decide to demolish, right? They're not going to do that, but... The Extend Epcot thing, though, has me intrigued. Like, I didn't really think about that. Like, if you got rid of those resorts and Extend at Epcot, like, what would that mean?
00:08:53
Speaker
But if they, oh, but if they get rid of resorts. I just feel like that's just, yeah, that's just throwing away. That's literally, le yeah, literally throwing money in the trash, which I don't think that they are. Yeah, I don't think they will do that either.
00:09:05
Speaker
i would I wouldn't mind seeing retheming of take one of them, maybe extend one, extend contracts on one of those resorts, and then completely retheme the other resort.
00:09:17
Speaker
But Beach Club, everyone loves Beach Club. And again, I do like Boardwalk minus the musty smell. But I heard recently that it's not such a big deal after they did that previous refurb. so Right, right. Okay. That was a good question right out of the gate. All right.
00:09:30
Speaker
Chris from the group wants to know, is there a ride or attraction you and your family must do every trip regardless of how many times you've already done it? I mean, for me, it's small world, but like, that's just me. I don't know if anyone else in the family would agree to that, but that's just like, for me, what I would say.
00:09:48
Speaker
You and my wife are in the same boat. Okay. See what I did there? there? Yeah, I assume she Yeah. Let's see. The other thing that my wife always has to do is the ah Festival of the Lion King over Kingdom. Oh my goodness, that would drive me crazy.
00:10:03
Speaker
Oh my goodness, that would drive me crazy. me For me, my two must-dos are always Rockin' Roller Coaster and Tron, just because I like launch-based coasters. Gotcha. Gotcha.
00:10:19
Speaker
Let's see. All right. No. Steve G wants to know, do you follow anyone on YouTube for going to the parks? No, because I don't think that people should be filming in the parks like that. Like to me, that's just annoying.
00:10:34
Speaker
So, right. No, I don't follow him because I will not be part of that. and And I don't follow anyone either, but I think it's more for I don't want to get anything spoiled.
00:10:46
Speaker
i'm I'm not big on spoilers. I mean, it's it's it's funny because I say that, but I do watch them. um Right. If I was to say there would be nobody that is just a Disney person.
00:10:57
Speaker
What's that dude? I think Deasy. I watch him. But yeah, nobody specifically Disney. It's more of people that go to multiple parks, I think, for me. But again, like...
00:11:08
Speaker
Yeah, I don't like that. I'd rather people didn't film in the parks. So, yeah, I agree. ah This next one is all you like I have. Yeah. but which and not All right. So Philip A. wants to know, what is the purpose of the large wooden ship that sits behind the amphitheater in America in Epcot? Is it ever used for anything or is it even moved? all right. So, Philip, I had to do a little bit of digging.
00:11:33
Speaker
So it turns out that this wooden ship behind the American Gardens Theater, which is what that amphitheater is called, in Epcot's American Adventure Pavilion, is a replica of a 1776 Continental Rum Runner sloop named the Golden Dreams.
00:11:50
Speaker
And its purpose there is to serve as a tribute to the ships that helped found the American nation back in 1776. So this ship represents the Continental Army's naval efforts during the American Revolutionary War.
00:12:04
Speaker
And it is historically accurate. So it was the sloop was designed and built by daring fine art consultants for Walt Disney World in 1993. So it hasn't even been there the entire time that Epcot has been operating.
00:12:19
Speaker
And it was built to be an accurate replica of vessels from that time period. And there's actually a connection to the show that is put on every day in that amphitheater. You know, the ship is named after the song Golden Dream, which is featured in the finale of the American Adventure attraction inside that pavilion. So the next time you go watch that show, just that last song, the Golden Dream, the boat behind it is named after it.
00:12:45
Speaker
Now, one other little interesting tidbit. This used to be a free-floating traditional ship that someone could have hypothetically sailed around, right, within the ah the lagoon there. um But it was damaged by Hurricane Charlie back in 2004.
00:13:01
Speaker
And since then, it was restored and placed on a flotation unit to prevent further storm and damage. So it's not

Upcoming Attractions and Changes at Disney Parks

00:13:10
Speaker
a free-floating ship anymore. It actually has something underneath it to help it to help it float. so Philip. All right. There you Are you awake now? Not as you're done. Yeah.
00:13:19
Speaker
People come for a Disney show and they get a history lesson. That's good. right I like this next one though. So. Okay. Philip, you you have, now you have Damon's interest. All right. So.
00:13:31
Speaker
Philip asked, the wife and I, which I'm assuming just really means the two of them. Interesting. Wife and I have tickets to Epic Universe on a Wednesday in mid-November. So they're going in less than a month.
00:13:42
Speaker
Although we don't live far away, we don't frequent Universal all that much. And so here's our question. Do we spend the $500 plus dollars for two express passes, which will pretty much guarantee we can do everything in a day, or do we risk it and do the hustle?
00:13:57
Speaker
So, I mean, i I live this, right? And for me, I did not want to risk it. and and and here's the other thing. for What I enjoyed about the express passes is that it allows you to do, if it's a not busy right? Because you're talking about a Wednesday in mid-November. Hopefully, it's not going to be super busy for you.
00:14:15
Speaker
But it allows you to do things twice that you really enjoyed. we don't go to Universal that much. So it was like, well, yeah, I kind of want those Express Passes so that I can make sure I get everything in just in case because I won't be back for a while.
00:14:29
Speaker
But also it was nice to do things twice, right? Something that you liked, you go, oh, cool. I have an Express Pass for it. I'll do it twice. Things that you didn't Express Pass for and didn't enjoy that much, you could just be like, all right, I did it and you're done, right? Like I would say...
00:14:44
Speaker
If you're not going to go again for a while, then it's money well spent. Absolutely. ah to To me, the overriding principle is your time is worth something, right? So you can either spend it writing or you can spend it staring at a queue line. I mean, we didn't we got lucky. We were on a day in August. It was hot. It was nobody there.
00:15:05
Speaker
And we probably didn't need them. But again, for us, it was the double up factor that was really well worth it. Plus, you know, when you start to get a little tired we're like, okay, well...
00:15:17
Speaker
Yeah, I don't want to wait at all. but Where it's like, man, even 40 minutes, which is not a long wait at a park, you're just like, oh, it's nice. I don't have to wait that 40 minutes. When you're on day six of seven, that 40 minutes can mean. Or when it's just hot or you're just tired or just whatever the case may be. So, yeah, I would agree. i would do it. um But that's like kind of how I like to do parks, right? Like just he give me whatever I can purchase within reason.
00:15:42
Speaker
There's craziness that I just wouldn't do. But within reason, yeah. ah Yeah, I would agree. And so, Philip, I think we're both in agreement. Spend the money, get the express passes, especially if you haven't been on some rides recently, like Velocicoaster.
00:15:55
Speaker
To me, like the first ride of that. think you're going to Epic, man. Oh, oh, that's right. It's just Epic. Oh, yeah, that's right. I forgot that. Oh, well then definitely. You definitely want it because i honestly don't think crowds are going to be down all that much because it's still too new. November may be tough, too, because people double up and go to both parks. They go to Disney and Universal and November because people do long vacations. Yeah.
00:16:22
Speaker
Yeah. So, yeah, Philip, spend the money. I don't think you'll I don't think you'll regret it. so So what's this next little section? You just tell them what people have. Steve G has Disneyland in a month. gene Yeah, right. So this is we're going to. Yeah, folks, we want some trip reports. So these are folks that have said in the Facebook group, which, by the way, if you are not part of the Facebook group, go to Facebook and look us up.
00:16:43
Speaker
So Steve G is going to Disneyland in a month, which is kind of, I want to get him on because we have all people like people talking about Disney World all the time. We don't get a lot of Disneyland. But I don't care about Disneyland. that's oh sure you do.
00:16:56
Speaker
It's the OG. Come on. Definitely don't because like I said, I'll be literally less than six hours away and I'm not going. Okay. Well, Steve G., I'm going to invite you on. So we're going to talk about Disneyland.
00:17:07
Speaker
All right. Gina is going to Epic Universe in November. Maybe you'll see Philip there. All right. And Colleen M. is going to Walt Disney World in November. So, folks, har yeah have fun.
00:17:21
Speaker

00:18:50
Speaker
And we're back. All right. So folks, it's time for some park news first out of the gate. It happens every year. Certain as the sun rising in the East price hikes are coming to the parks at Disney world.
00:19:05
Speaker
And for the first time ever, There is now a $200 plus dollar single day ticket to Magic Kingdom. It happens.
00:19:16
Speaker
like It's not news, but it's news, right? like Right. We knew this was coming, ah but now it's officially happened. They might be throwing discounts at us, but they're going to offset those discounts with price increases. And unfortunately, they're going to keep doing this until they see attendance drop. Let's just...
00:19:33
Speaker
I mean, I don't think we're ever going to see a price decrease. Let's put it that way. I mean think we'll always see an increase. a It would have to be a pretty significant world event for Disney. Yeah, exactly. If there's a decrease, I don't know if I'm going to Disney in general because who knows what else is happening in the world at that point. Yeah.
00:19:51
Speaker
And of course, along with that, you get we are getting lightning lane price increases, which I don't have in front of me, but it looks I'm thinking it's going to be around $40. It's going to top out for... Yeah. I mean, again, it does it it makes sense.
00:20:05
Speaker
Yeah. All right. Moving on. the It is now confirmed that the new Monsters Land in Disney Hollywood Studios is going to be called Monstropolis. And of course, this is after the city in the movies slated for opening in 2027 or Disney hedging. Have you seen that that video of it's like a they somebody built the coaster they wish was going to be there in one of the coaster simulation games. I thought that was pretty cool.
00:20:35
Speaker
I mean, I'm excited for this. I'm excited for the coaster. I hope it really is something groundbreaking. I really, really do. It'll it'll depend on the, in my mind, it's going to depend on the transfer. Like, for instance, if it's How do I put this?
00:20:51
Speaker
Like, if it's just hanging the entire time, you know, there's, there's been hanging coasters before, right? Absolutely. I mean, gosh, there was, what was the one in Williamsburg? Great. Was it big, bad, but big, bad, whatever that was. Yeah, exactly. Like we've seen that.
00:21:04
Speaker
Yeah. gotta be something totally unique. Oh, if it's going in between rooms, like when when you're going from scene to scene, that could be pretty cool.
00:21:15
Speaker
So anyway, that is coming in. Let's just be honest, probably to come in 2028. I will havely when i'll be back at Disney. Yeah. All right. Next bit of news. More ah roller coaster news. Rock and roller coaster starring the Muppets.
00:21:29
Speaker
Opens in summer of 2026. Yeah. Like, that's exciting and not exciting because... why is it not exciting? I don't know. Like... I've ridden that coaster. Yes, the theming will be different, but it's just such an overlay. Like I was excited.
00:21:45
Speaker
Listen, I am excited because the Muppets are going to be somewhere. There's no doubt about that. And what do have in here? Gonzo's going to be an animatronic. so there as well Right. So Gonzo's going to be an animatronic. There may be others. Scooter is rumored to be an animatronic.
00:22:00
Speaker
And from what we are reading, it looks like the basic premise of the ride is going to be the same. Oh gosh, what's the name of the band? I keep forgetting it. No, the Muppet band. um What do they call themselves?
00:22:15
Speaker
Whatever the name of the band is, they're going to be late for a show. Kermit's going to come in and say, what are you guys doing here? Get to the show. And then it's the same premise. so And that's why it's kind of like, to me, it's Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem.
00:22:30
Speaker
Dr. Teeth and there you go, Electric Mayhem. To me, it's like, yeah, it's great. And yes, the Muppets are going to be there. But yeah, it's going to be the same ride, man. Well, yeah. It's not like that ride was super themed, right? It was all about the the pre-show. It was the pre-show, and it was an over blink-and-you'll-miss-it type ride. it's Yeah. so So it's like, yeah, the pre-show better be really good, but...
00:22:53
Speaker
Am I excited for like, really at this point, what you're talking about is YouTube clip. Yeah. Kind of. Yeah. I hope one of them. Again, what I kind of put things into these buckets of it's cool, but it's not making me go back.
00:23:08
Speaker
Like that's how I put Tron in that same bucket where like monsters land is like, yes, I'm going to go. Right. Like, because it's going to be something brand new. Like Tron didn't do that for me.
00:23:19
Speaker
Really? You didn't like, Tron didn't do anything for you? No. Like, it's it's a roller coaster that's just a roller coaster. Like, cool. Like, I'll go and see it, and I'm sure I'll enjoy it when I go. But it doesn't drive me to go to the park, where I think things like Monstropolis will drive me to go to the park. Cars Land will drive me to go to the park.
00:23:38
Speaker
You I'm saying? Yeah, I get what you're saying. Yeah. Which, by the we're going to pause here for minute and talk about Tron. Man, I am so disappointed Tron Ares has flown. I told you the movie was going to be terrible.
00:23:52
Speaker
I know. I even said, I said, yeah, why are they doing these movies? Like they're trying so hard and Tron deserves a good movie. And now we're not deserved him. Like Tron was good because of when it came out.
00:24:06
Speaker
Yeah, that's the thing. Like it was cool and new. Like when you saw a lightsaber for the first time, it almost wasn't even about the movie. It was about the lightsaber. And Tron was the same way.
00:24:17
Speaker
And, you know, you had that again, like arcade was culture. So you had that game in the arcade with the discs and the things and the big control. You had a lot of like culture around it.
00:24:30
Speaker
And that's, it's just not it, man. It doesn't exist in this world. I'm sorry. And so Disney has now officially put Tron on the, on the, back on the back shelf.
00:24:41
Speaker
It's over. Indiana Jones end scene. They're putting it in a warehouse somewhere and we're never going to see it again. Tag on it. All right. Anyway. All right. Moving on.
00:24:53
Speaker
So there are animatronic updates coming to the Frozen ride in Epcot and they mainly revolve around the face area of the animatronics. Yeah. I mean, I thought it was really cool when Frozen first came out, right? Yeah.
00:25:09
Speaker
different with the projection faces And it was groundbreaking when it opened, right? When it opened. Pretty darn cool. But since then, Tokyo Disney has gotten better animatronics.
00:25:22
Speaker
And now the folks over at Epcot are like, hey, we kind of want that um over here in Florida. and And even with some of the other ah parks that have really great animatronics, it's makes it look crazy like i said when we were at epic universe my wife was like those death eat like she thought the death eaters were people that came in and did that for the show kind of like the great movie ride and like no they're not that's animatronics and we're at that point now so i agree with this yeah i think this makes sense but again same ride
00:25:53
Speaker
Yeah, I wonder if they're going to start layering in some AI stuff. You remember when we talked about it a couple of weeks ago with these animatronics? Yeah. cool I think it would also create this extra sort of you know replayability, rewritability. Oh, yeah. we you know were able to If they were able to kind of utilize what is going on in the boats and have discussion. You know what i mean? Like, it would be kind of cool. So we'll see. Yeah, yeah.
00:26:23
Speaker
All right. Staying in Epcot, this is probably the most awesome news ever. If you have not been on Facebook recently, Patrick Warburton has now put out a promo that Soarin' Across America will be coming to the ride.
00:26:39
Speaker
oh And I don't even have the date for that. My guess is going to be 2026. Yeah, 2026, I'm thinking. um But anyway, we are going to get a Soarin' Specifically Across 26, man.
00:26:53
Speaker
Yeah. Summer 26. Be a little bit better in research. Come on Man, I can't, I can't bat a thousand all the time. right. But that is super exciting, especially, I hope they do another ah pre-show video with a now older Patrick Warburton. That would be good as well.
00:27:09
Speaker
i think it might. I mean, if they have him in, why not, right? Yeah, exactly. And he seems like he enjoys doing those things. so Well, people enjoy watching him. I think that's yeah part of the thing. And I do like, it's funny because I'll say, you know, on one hand, I look at Rock and Roll Coast and be like, bah, it's the same ride. But, you know, with Soarin', like a whole new video is kind of like a different ride.
00:27:29
Speaker
I don't know why I feel like I'm saying that when I feel like I'm contradicting myself, but in my gut, it feels that way. Yeah. Do you have a particular row you try to get on when you ride?
00:27:40
Speaker
don um you Don't care. you't You don't care if people's feet dangle in front of you? Nope. I'm good. All right. All right. one More news in Epcot.
00:27:51
Speaker
So Epcot. This is going to be our longest episode. Oh, for sure. Yeah. We haven't even made it to the after show yet, Matt. I apologize to all the people that we told would be like, yeah, our episodes will only be 30 minutes. Sorry. This one's going to go over. That's right.
00:28:04
Speaker
right, Epcot Festival of the Arts dates have been announced. It is going to run for 39 days from January 16 until February 23 in 2026. in twenty twenty six I like Festival the Arts.
00:28:19
Speaker
I have not been to Festival of the Arts yet. I've not been there during that time. So what, I mean, your... There's just a lot of art. Like, I think i i enjoy art, so it's always nice to kind of, you know, take a look at what's going on. Sometimes they have some interactive art things, right? right Stuff like there's the Scavenger Hunt the World Showcase.
00:28:40
Speaker
There's just all different things, and you get a lot of figment. That's the nice thing. You a lot of figment when you have Festival of the Yards. So mine it's definitely a dubs. my My knowledge of Festival the Arts is when I see pictures of, or excuse me, photos of all the chalk art where people have drawn these elaborate yeah paintings on the on the sidewalk with chalk that look realistic.
00:29:02
Speaker
And i think I think for Jeremy, there's going to be some Disney Lorkana event. Oh, yes. Disney Lorkana. Jeremy from the group who is big into Lorkana. Maybe we should get him in to talk about Lorkana at some point. Anyway, as as long as he doesn't come on with his Apple air earbuds.
00:29:20
Speaker
The thing is, I wanted to learn how to play, and then I realized I just don't have that much time in my life. Like, I really did. i did want to learn how to play. and and Yeah, I might take it up. My son is really big into games. My oldest son is big into games. so I mean, we're big into games, too, but I just i can't have that sort of level of interaction. It seems like a lot.
00:29:40
Speaker
Right. Okay, then the last little bit of park news, um a milestone has been reached for Disneyland expansion. The parking deck construction has commenced um for their add-ons out there. And if you're not familiar with it, Disneyland is adding on to their footprint, kind of like what Universal has done, where they are adding in on land that is not directly connected to the rest of the park. So you're going to have to take a ride.
00:30:10
Speaker
I mean, it's not going to be across town, but it's not going to be, you're not going to be able to walk unless they do some sort of skyway yeah um across it. So things are moving along over at Disneyland.
00:30:23
Speaker
All right. So folks, that is the bulk of the park news that we have, which means now it's time for the after show.
00:30:40
Speaker
Okay, folks, it is time for the After Show and our first bit of news. First all, I hope this music

Future Events and Announcements

00:30:46
Speaker
is good. I still haven't listened to it yet. Did it get better, the music? Of course it got better. Of course it got better.
00:30:51
Speaker
Yeah. So the first bit of news, the worldwide knockout phenomenon, Banana Ball, the Savannah Bananas, are coming to yeah ESPN Wide World of Sports. They are going to be there in 2026.
00:31:06
Speaker
I think that's awesome. Yeah. They're going to be playing. We were talking, we've all, I've only seen it on TV, but it's enjoyable. I think that would be a good thing to do if you're coming for a longer trip. Yep. They're going to be playing all new team called the Loco Beach Coconuts at Disney's wide world of sports.
00:31:22
Speaker
So if you're going to be in down near Orlando in 2026, just Just check dates. I don't think ah an official date has come out yet. They're just saying in 2026. So keep checking back.
00:31:33
Speaker
If you're into Banana Ball, you will have a chance to see it at Disney World. I don't know why these two things were part of the after show, I thought Disney stuff stayed in the... Well, it's not... Well, do you consider Wide World of Sports a park? I don't.
00:31:49
Speaker
Okay. I mean, I consider Disney news, Disney news. That's okay. This next one, though, really treads the line, though. DCL stuff should be not part of the after show, I feel like. Okay. Well, we'll see. Is it for another day? yeah Another day. Another show, another day.
00:32:05
Speaker
right, so there is going to be a Haunted Mansion-themed scavenger hunt type of experience on two of the Disney Cruise Line boats. They're going to be on the Treasure and the Destiny. There is a link in the show notes where it shows kind of what you are going, if going to be doing. If you remember back to the Cards of the Kingdom, that playing card game where you would go up to Windows in the Magic Kingdom and you would show your card,
00:32:31
Speaker
And different things would happen. It's going to be something along those lines. you right You do need a Disney band plus though, to do this. Right. Which is tough on a cruise, to be honest with you.
00:32:43
Speaker
Um, cause it is right. It's, it's not really free unless you already planned on using those. And I don't know why you would use those on a cruise. So you either have to have them or that has to factor in. But I think this is a great idea because oh there's there's always downtime on a cruise, especially with younger kids. I mean, my kids are a little different now being older, but with younger kids, they want something to do. This is something you can kind of send them to do.
00:33:07
Speaker
Right. So but actually, my question is, do magic bands not open your room doors on a cruise line? Do they not have that functionality? don't I've had one because like I'm not wearing a magic band to just that be the only thing when I can use you know something else.
00:33:23
Speaker
That's the problem. Like I don't see the need for me to have them on a cruise. I don't like wearing stuff on my wrist in general. So bad and yeah, for me, it's not about that, but this is really cool. Like I said, the one thing that as my kids have gotten older, even my kids now would probably still do this because Disney doesn't have as much stuff to do as you get a little bit older if you're not in the kids club, to be honest with you. And that's why we went on Royal Caribbean going forward. Not to say that we won't be back to Disney, but, you know, it is one of those things where, you know, the more you can put on a Disney ship for people to do, I think the better because we found a lot of downtime Disney.
00:34:03
Speaker
Right. anddely Yeah. And so this this experience, you're going to be going around the ship. You will have your ghost host as your guide, and you're going to be solving Madame Leota's cryptic riddles to uncover haunted objects throughout the ship. And the videos that they're showing are, um you know, what you would expect, where there's going to be artwork that comes alive when you do your thing.
00:34:23
Speaker
um As you are wandering through the ship. So, and you will have this thing where you were trying to gather all the phantoms. It's going to keep track of your progress. They're going to gamify ah this experience. So it's going to be pretty cool. So if you're traveling on the treasure or what was the other boat? I said the destiny. tonight Yeah. Treasure of destiny.
00:34:42
Speaker
Keep an eye out for this. So it should be pretty cool. right, let's get away from Disney for a few minutes, and we're going to talk about Universal. So Universal Kids Resort has now an update. For those of you that have not been keeping up, this is going to be the resort that's going to be in Texas.
00:35:00
Speaker
Frisco, Texas. Yeah, Frisco, Texas. And it's going to be opening in 2026. It seems like they just announced this not that long ago. I would agree. I think they've been putting in a lot of work, though.
00:35:12
Speaker
Yeah. So they have announced the seven lands that are going to be part of this new Universal Kids Resort. And here they are. I'm actually going to start with number seven because it's the Isle of Curiosity. That is going to be your entrance entrance area.
00:35:26
Speaker
um So when you walk in, it will be this area that's kind of like, think of it like an epic universe where you're going to have the center area and you're going to be going off into different lands through portals.
00:35:38
Speaker
But then once you get out of Isle of Curiosity. ah see Gabby there too. Yes. Yep. Gabby in the dollhouse. Gabby in the dollhouse. All right. So you have six areas then which left, which is going to be the first one is Shrek Swamp, where you are going to be interacting with the world of Shrek.
00:35:56
Speaker
Oh, this next one. Bikini Bottom. SpongeBob SquarePants will finally have his own land in a resort. It's going to be Bikini Bottom at Universal Kids Resort.
00:36:07
Speaker
Did you ever, you did you get into SpongeBob SquarePants? I never did. So my kids got into it later. So we didn't really let them watch it when they were younger. We didn't either. The attention span thing. But then like all of a sudden at like 12, they're like, yeah, this is funny. So like they watched it later in life, I feel like.
00:36:23
Speaker
Okay. ah Let's see. move this This next one, I'm excited just because I love this. Minions Bellow Bay Club. So we're going to have a Minions theme. I get the feeling that it's going to be kind of like a centered around where you have the good Minions versus the evil. It looks like there's going to be a raft water ride. Yeah, going to be a water ride.
00:36:46
Speaker
Oh, it'd be cool if they had something where like you were, oh, what's that thing in Universal where they you're going through the villain con and you're you're shooting with the ah laser gun? I hope they do something like that.
00:36:58
Speaker
That's really This is goingnna be a water ride though. Yeah, but you could do it, shoot it while you're doing the water ride. That would be fun. guess Anyway. Let's see. Adventure Camp, ah baby dinosaurs. So you will do something along the lines. That show has taken off, by the way.
00:37:13
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. Oh, man if they had If they have a baby dinosaur animatronic, the line will be out back to Disney World, right? Yeah. what's to what's what's interesting about this rendition though is you have like if you can like if you look at it you'll see that there's like an adventure camp right with netting and things like that but then over to the right there's a little bit of roller coaster yeah you see that off to the right there's a small drop tower yep by small i mean kitty size drop tower right okay
00:37:46
Speaker
yeah Sorry, I can't make the help but make the connection. is I wonder if they thought about, you know, Disney is tearing down Dinoland. Maybe we should go see if we can get all that equipment for that. What was the boneyard?
00:37:59
Speaker
Yes. Yeah. Get all that boneyard for pennies on the dollar. for Anyway. Uh, let's see. Moving on. Next land is trolls fest. There's going to be a land dedicated to the trolls franchise. I guess that's cool.
00:38:12
Speaker
A lot of this looks like a lot of water stuff though, just, which is kind of cool. And again, like ah looking, we see another coaster in these renditions, which are are just conceptual at this point, but it doesn't look like there's going to be anything thrill wise. This is definitely geared towards younger kids. Yeah.
00:38:29
Speaker
You are going to be, Early teens and younger is who's gone. I don't even know about early teens. Yeah. We're even younger than that, but yeah. But I think the water is also, all this water stuff is by design because you're going to be in Frisco, Texas during the summer. So we need ask something to cool things off. so And then last, there's going to be a Puss in Boots Del Mar. So Puss in Boots from the Shrek.
00:38:58
Speaker
Started out in Shrek, but then it spun off on its own little franchise. yeah So I never got into the Puss in Boots thing. Yeah. Now, we were, so when it was at the Gaylord Ponds, they had a lot of Puss in Boots stuff there. We were there during that. It was Shrek and Puss in Boots. It was very interesting.
00:39:13
Speaker
Right. Because, again, there was no spot for it like this. I'm excited for this. I think for younger kids, this is going to be really fun. Yep, yep. So, again, open ah what seems to be opening amazingly fast in 2020. Well, you don't have anything, like, innovative in terms of rides, right? Like, I mean, it not in a bad way, but just in a, like...
00:39:34
Speaker
You're not pushing the boundaries anywhere. So, yeah, they they have the blueprint for this. They can kind of bang it out. Right. Yeah. Have they even talked about resorts yet? I mean, as far as hotel and lodging? I don't know yet. Yeah. I mean, it's going to be interesting to see how that works also.
00:39:47
Speaker
Yeah. All right. Let's stay in Universal. Universal is testing out single- This is just a rumor. This isn't necessarily that- Hmm. Well, they're testing it out because there's a sign out where they tried it out.
00:39:59
Speaker
I think it was on Men in Black, if I remember correctly. like Anyway, they're trying out single-use express pass. So kind of like ah your single-use lightning lane, yeah you will try time. This is what limited time, though. So again, like we make assumptions that it's something that will...
00:40:16
Speaker
go for everything. but Right. But you'd you'd have to think if it's made it to the point. Yeah. If it's made it to the point where they are putting it out in front of the public, they are fairly certain it's going to work and they're fairly certain it's going to make some money. So this is this is interesting for me because we always stay at one of the Lowe's Resort hotels, the older ones, right, that have the Express Pass built in So now there's this open opportunity for people that like, hey, only necessarily want to go on a few rides. Like, you know, having Express Pass for Mummy is like, you know, that's a people eater. Like, that's easy to get on.
00:40:52
Speaker
So all of a sudden, if I look at this, you know, and I'm going to the parks, like, do I want to just stay somewhere else, somewhere cheaper? Because listen, in the Lowe's resorts are expensive. But it makes sense when you get the Express Passes. But now all of a sudden, if I only need certain attractions, maybe it changes what I'm doing. I listen, I like this. I've always liked this. I liked that there's lightning lane over at Disney. I think that Universal had to do something similar.
00:41:16
Speaker
So i'm I'm not mad at it. That's for sure. Yeah. And this goes back actually to Philip's question in the head about, you know, we're going on a Wednesday and do we pay the $500 for the, this could be a case where you're like, well, you know, I don't really, really want to get on Hagrid's and you know, something else. Well,
00:41:35
Speaker
yeah the ah The pricing so pricing for this, at least during the testing, was $24.99. It comes out a little bit over $26 after tax. So for Philip's case, where it's just him and his wife, so you're looking at $50 to get ah one-time use express pass.
00:41:52
Speaker
Is it worth it in that case? I think so. I think it's still worth it if there's only a couple things you want to to experience without having to wait. so Yeah. Yeah. so All right.
00:42:05
Speaker
Let's see. What else do we have up on? Oh, it's staying in Universal. There is a new ride coming to Universal, Fast and Furious. Coming to Hollywood right now, right? Yeah, Hollywood. Yeah. So Hollywood Drift. And there is, if you go check the show notes, and we'll be posting this in the group as well, there is a sneak peek ride video that it has surfaced recently.
00:42:27
Speaker
Um, it it's computer generated, obviously. You can now go and see pictures of the actual ride itself. I think that, and there's zebra colored covered, you know, colored cars, but I saw that either they were doing some testing today or we got stuck. You saw that.
00:42:42
Speaker
Yep, I saw that. So yeah, so what Damon- That would be brutal. Yeah, so what Damon is referring to, they are running tests now on the ride itself, and the cars got stuck in an upside down position. Well, and we don't know if they were doing specific testing or not. We don't know the answer to that.
00:42:59
Speaker
Well, from the pictures I saw, it was, ah couldn't, and there were dummies in it, like weight dummies in There could have been testing though. Oh yeah. Yeah. This to me is, is interesting because the ride is what time traveler was years ago, which I was always like, oh, that's a unique ride, but it's also very guardians of the galaxy ish.
00:43:17
Speaker
Right. Like in terms of the kind of the ride vehicle kind of, you know, twisting and turning. yeah I like it. And again, what, if this, if this does end up replacing something like in the Florida park, and then that means that we can get rid of that terrible ride that exists for fast and furious and put, you know, I don't know, back to the future there. Like, Oh, I would absolutely get on it. If it was back to the future, that would be so cool. Yeah.
00:43:53
Speaker
All right. All right. We're going to step away from all of the theme parks for a minute. And Damon, as he mentioned at the beginning of the show, he went to a new haunted house. And I'm going to let him just have the floor.
00:44:05
Speaker
Knock yourself out, Damon. The thing is, I really wish... I should have just recorded my part for this episode like when I got back because it was it was such a different experience. So yeah we wanted to go...
00:44:17
Speaker
Yeah. something new right so we've been towards of terror we've been to a few of the other ones and we're like oh you know they're good but we've been there you know a few times already and we're kind of looking for something new and we were going to go to the hotel but i guess they had some damage and they weren't able to open fully this year So, you know, we're looking around, looking around and there's this place called Scream Dreams and it's just a little bit South of Winston-Salem and Thomasville, but it's all indoors. It's like 30 something thousand of indoors.
00:44:43
Speaker
Wow. And kind of the good thing is, is that they can touch you, right? So shoulders up, knees down. So no, no, no spots, right? So just regular old, you know, and, and, and what it turns into is a lot of grabbing at your legs as you're walking.
00:44:57
Speaker
I don't remember getting a lot of shoulder, i well, no, you did get some shoulder-up touches, but this place was great. It was funny because when we left, I had asked my kids, you know, was this the scariest you one you've been to? And it was like, no but it was the most entertaining. So they had, again, it was inside and each like kind of, almost like room was a little bit of a different experience, but some of the rooms themselves were set up where like, you went in and first first of all, we
00:45:27
Speaker
got there and we did matinee because the best thing about it was you go to matinee, like, yeah, it's still light out, but who cares? It's inside, right? And it was cheaper. So it was me, my wife did not go in. She drove with us though, because we did dinner first, but it was me, both my sons, both their girlfriends. So there's our five. And then Molly from the group and her husband, right? So there were seven of us, which was perfect. So we were in a group of seven.
00:45:51
Speaker
okay And, you know, we, you know, kind of, you get in and you know, take a picture, which is always nice. And then you kind of going in these rooms, but some of the rooms were like their own experience. So there was one, a Beetlejuice room, right? Where you got to throw these, um,
00:46:09
Speaker
I guess they were stuffed animals and trying to put them in the monster's mouth. And then like that, it was, it was like a skit involved but and things like that, which was phenomenal. The animatronics that they had were also like, they were on like a scissor lift bars.
00:46:23
Speaker
So like you would be in there and you normally in animatronics, like will pop up or whatever, but like have you ever seen like the spirit Halloween stuff where like now all of a sudden you like to think pops up, but like it kind of goes like a foot or two.
00:46:34
Speaker
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. yeah These, though, were set up where, like, they could pop up and go 10, 15 feet. So, like, an animatronic would be, like, you'd think, oh, I'm trying. And then all of a sudden, it would be, like, right in your face. It was crazy. There was these spiders coming from the ceiling that, like, would, like, kind of, like, knock into you. Like, there was a snake that, like, hit me in the head. And i was like, what is? going on here? Like that thing was heavy.
00:46:57
Speaker
But some of the other rooms that were really cool, like you you go into a room, there's a witch and she's casting a spell and you're doing that. You go into this room where this was really good. So they're making like, they have like a hog, like all chopped up and bloody and they're but They're making this pig soup.
00:47:14
Speaker
So like you go in this room, there's seven hours and there's like the person that's cooking and they're like, you know, kind of doing this whole skit and then have my son go up and they'd be like, Hey, you got to stir the pot. Like, and he'd go over and they're like, no, and you have to like get a spoon and stir the pot.
00:47:28
Speaker
And like, and then this pot would like kind of spit out steam at him. Right. You know, hu kind of scare him. But They got Molly so good in that room like because she was so scared in that room. I don't know how she goes to all this Halloween stuff when she was just so scared the whole entire time.
00:47:42
Speaker
But they had her kind of forced into this area because she was so scared. And then there was a garbage can and there was something in the garbage can that popped up. she almost lost it. Like ah it it also was a little bit more adult ish.
00:47:57
Speaker
but So like there was some profanity, which funny way. Yeah. But the other thing was, is like, like you were in these rooms where, you know, one of the rooms was like a school room.
00:48:12
Speaker
And you would have all these animatronics and then maybe only like one or two real people, but the animatronics and this the makeup was it's really well done that they would still get you because you just didn't know what was animatronics, what was real and even animatronics. Because normally in animatronics, you'd be like,
00:48:27
Speaker
hey, it's going to beep at you or something. no these things would like shoot across the room. so Reach out for you. Yeah, you kind of had to be a little leery. And the the rooms were so well done. Like I said, there was a church, there was a school, there was a jungle, there was you know clown stuff.
00:48:44
Speaker
One of the most interesting ones, though, that I liked, there was ah puppet one. hello a possessed puppet and it was and and the whole room is filled with like puppets and again they don't do like these small things like in one of the areas there's this hand that's like i don't know the size of a king kong hand it's like eight foot tall like they really did a really good job so you're in this puppet area and the other thing is you're kind of they kind of lead you with fluorescent um arrows painted
00:49:15
Speaker
which is good because it can get a little crazy. But the puppet room was interesting because you go into the puppet room and there's like these flying around puppets possessed and things like that. it was really cool. And these are well done puppets.
00:49:26
Speaker
But you get into the room and you realize there's no way out. And there's a puppet show going on. And the person that's doing the puppet show is like, at first you're kind of like, oh no, they can see us. And they're like they're like talking to you and like making comments and like things like that. So it's really cool.
00:49:40
Speaker
you don't know how you're going to get out. Anyway, after the puppet shows over the door, that they're doing the puppet show and actually opens and you kind of move through that area, which again, i thought was really well done again, entertaining, not necessarily scary. Now I will say though, normally I get no jump scares me personally, right? They got me a couple of times towards the end. I will say that, but in general, I normally don't get jump scared, but yeah,

And this is this is to the the the funniest thing. So we we go and again, they make you walk upstairs, which is very odd to me because it seems like it would be such a...
00:50:17
Speaker
in the dark? You have to do that the dark? Not really. Yeah, I mean, it's kind of dark. I will tell you, the stairs going up are a little bit easier, but the stairs going down are like something you would expect at like, you know, you go to a high school and there's these super wide stairs and stuff. Yeah, yeah.
00:50:32
Speaker
But they had the stairs painted different colors and they were huge and they were like three flights down. I don't know people just don't die on that because I had to actually like pay attention to walking down stairs and hold onto the rail because I'm like, there's no way. I'm just going to like,
00:50:47
Speaker
I don't know what's going to happen. That was the scariest part of it. But there's this is guy. And let's just say he has a nose. Okay. And let's just say it's hot dog. Wait a minute.
00:51:01
Speaker
Wait minute. Oh, okay, guys, sorry. You're talking about a puppet or a No, not because it's a real person. Okay, all right. And let's just say he has a nose and let's just pretend it's a hot dog and he wants you to touch it.
00:51:12
Speaker
Oh, God. No one wants to touch it. But of course, my kids. So my one son is, again, like we're going to pretend this is a hot dog nose, is yelling out, don't touch it. It's a hot dog. It's a hot dog. Don't touch it. But let's, you know, insert a different word there.
00:51:27
Speaker
my God. And then my other son is like, well, I don't care. And he's like squeezing his hot dog. It was so funny. Like we had such a blast at that, at that point, like just in general.
00:51:40
Speaker
And then, like I said, you're, you're crawling through the spider webs. There's, there was also areas where like you had to get down on your knee. Like there was a spot where I was on my knees crawling for gosh, at least 30 feet. um There was also areas that like they have those big like um air pressurized things that you have to kind of like go through the middle of.
00:51:58
Speaker
oh yeah. But these were like really, really heavy. Like it was like hard i got out and I was like, oh, man, I'm kind of tired. Like, I mean, I can't believe that I had push through all that. This, again, was very well done. The kicker part, though, was so we're in this area and and we're talking to one, you know, the the actors. Again, there's a skit kind of area and it's like electric things hanging from the ceiling.
00:52:20
Speaker
But you're thinking to yourself, like, whatever, like, you know, it's not going to be a big deal or nothing. and So they tell my one son to grab two of them. Oh, he completed a circuit?
00:52:31
Speaker
Oh, my goodness. And he said it wasn't like. like a little shock. He was like, his arms were numb for like a little bit, like fully numb. He was like, I've never been shocked like that.
00:52:46
Speaker
I thought it was hysterical because I was surprised that like they would have they they would have it be that level of shock, right? Like it was it was something crazy. But everything was so well done. Like i just, I really enjoyed it from an entertainment factor, probably my favorite entertainment factor wise. Scariest, absolutely not.
00:53:07
Speaker
Entertainment, absolutely. like And at the end, they had a pee bell. So like if you peed yourself, you had to ring the bell. And of course, one of the people in our group peed themselves a little bit. So they had to ring the bell at the end.
00:53:17
Speaker
Oh God. Do I even want to know? Yeah, no, it wasn't me though. It wasn't me. and There was this, they, the other thing, like they had this one area again, like these are all like little mini experiences. So there's one area you go in and there's like seven doors.
00:53:31
Speaker
Okay. And there's a person there and they're like, Oh, you know, you got to pick a door to get out. And you think that like, Okay, whatever. Like, shouldn't be a big deal. Well, the the they line up everyone in front of a door, except me because I have seven, I guess it was six doors, which was fine by me.
00:53:45
Speaker
And they make them, everyone open them one by one. and And they point out the order so you don't find the good door until the end, right? what's this right um But like, there was one where you open up and it was like a train whistle, but it was so loud. Like, it was crazy because it just gets you like so like disoriented because you're like, oh my goodness, the train whistle is so loud. and There's one where stuff pops out. There's stuff, people in them. Like, i mean, I really enjoyed it.
00:54:11
Speaker
I tell people like it's worth just the experience. um And it was not expensive. I did like that too. I mean, we paid darn near third less than we were at some of the other places.
00:54:23
Speaker
Cool. Yeah. It was so much fun. So Scream Dreams, Thomasville, North Carolina, go check it out. Yeah, just south of Winston-Salem in Thomasville. Scream Dreams. It sounds like it's in like some sort of warehouse.
00:54:34
Speaker
It is. And like again, there's a bar down below like if you want to all that sort of stuff. But yeah, it was so much fun. I had a blast. I really, really did. Very, very nice.
00:54:45
Speaker
All right. Last little bit of news. The Artisan Club is going to open up at Cotino later this month. And remember that Cotino is this new Disney living out in California that just started of welcoming its first residence probably a couple months ago.
00:55:04
Speaker
um and This looks cool. Yeah. Yeah, i mean, it really does. i mean, so it has two dining spots and they're pretty interesting. Yeah. So the Artisan Club is an add It's almost like I don't want to say country club, but it's an additional exp experience. Kind Yeah. It's like a supper club, dining club.
00:55:24
Speaker
You will be able to have access to different programs um that will be held there. The one thing that I like, gosh, some of the views here that they are showing. The view with them doing yoga at the pool with the mountain behind it.
00:55:37
Speaker
Yeah. Kind of nice. Yeah, that flat expanse where you've got that blue water in front of you and the mountains behind. Gosh, that looks really nice. It does. Which gets me excited for the place that's opening up in Pittsburgh North Carolina. and i We're going to go. Once they they get to that point where we can start looking, we're going to go.
00:55:57
Speaker
Me and Blake will go. We'll tell you all about it because we're going to go. That's right. We're going to have a live show. We're going to bring some recorders and we're going to hopefully not get kicked out. No, we'll get approval. We'll get prior approval. Not to worry about it. Yeah, yeah.
