In this episode, we delve into leaked reimagined plans for Villains Land featuring a Maleficent E-Ticket boat ride, an Emperor’s New Groove family coaster, and even a Hades-themed dinner show. We also explore whether Space Mountain could finally be facing major changes, a surprise Gravity Falls drone show that may hint at something bigger in development, and MuppetVision 3D getting new life on Apple Vision Pro. Plus, we break down a limited-time DVC VIP Tour discount that could bring a private guide experience down to just $252 per person with the right group strategy.

In the aftershow, the theme park industry keeps moving as Universal pushes forward with infrastructure for its new UK park and long-term permits suggest a major overhaul may be coming to the beloved E.T. Adventure. We also cover the surprising cancellation of a planned Nerf attraction in Pigeon Forge and what it could signal for regional entertainment expansions.

Introduction and Allergy Struggles

00:00:14
Speaker
Hey folks, welcome to episode number 14 of the Rhubarb Travelers podcast. We are recording this show on Wednesday, March 11, 2026. And I am Blake with me as always is Damon. How are you? think they call this one the one where they have an allergy cough. Yeah, I know, right? And congestion. Damon and I are both suffering from allergies right now. and And this is the time in North Carolina where it's like allergies are crazy. like yeah I was surprised at how, like most of the year, my allergies are better than being up north.
00:00:50
Speaker
But then you have this window where it's just terrible. The yellow haze, as we call it down

Community Engagement and Support

00:00:56
Speaker
here. the The pine trees in North Carolina put out this pollen that's just terrible. It's everywhere. so in That is true.
00:01:03
Speaker
And as I was telling Damon, I had to go to the dentist right before we started recording today. So it's horrible when you're trying to sit in a dentist's office and you can't breathe through your nose because of the allergies. And so you're forced to mouth breathe and it's just horrible. oh Yeah, that that's that's got to be a rough one.
00:01:19

00:01:40
Speaker
all right, let's hop into DVC Resort News. Did you not get into listener questions? We do a very poor job at that, I would say. I know. We need to get better at that. We definitely need to get better. Yeah.
00:01:52
Speaker
So, folks, if you have any listener questions, don't wait for us. You don't have to wait for us to to put the question out in the Facebook group. Say, hey, does anyone have any questions? Anytime you think of a question, just drop it in the in the Facebook group and we will add it yeah into the show.
00:02:09
Speaker
Promise.

DVC Discounts and Disney Celebrations

00:02:11
Speaker
All right. So DVC resort news. DVC members are getting limited time discounts for VIP tours. Have you ever done a VIP tour?
00:02:21
Speaker
No, I have not. I have not either. But if you are a DVC eligible member, and we'll talk about that in in a minute, you get a 20% discount, which is nothing to sneeze at when you look at the overall cost of a VIP tour. So to be an eligible member,
00:02:39
Speaker
You have to have purchased at least 150 points directly from DVC. It cannot be resale points. Or have been grandfathered in. Or been grandfathered in. Which I think they should do away with too.
00:02:53
Speaker
But that's just me. All the grandfathered in people should just... In other words, yeah people should lose their grandfather status. Yes, absolutely. Absolutely. i said it.
00:03:05
Speaker
Yep. Okay, folks, that email is D-A-M-O-N at rhubarbtravelspodcast.com. All right. So the dates for this tour, for the, excuse me, for the discount on this tour are April 26th through October 5th. So five full months that you are able to to take advantage of this. The tour must be a minimum of seven hours long. And of course, just the regular rules, you can include up to 10 people. So I did a little bit of math. All right.
00:03:33
Speaker
So if you were to do the minimum, there's the seven hour tour. And these VIP tours range anywhere from $450 an hour $950. And the time of year. to nine hundred and fifty dollars and essence is the time of year You know what? I didn't dive too deep into that. I just got the bottom and the top of it. So if you were to do the $450 an hour, seven hour tour, that comes out $3,150.
00:03:55
Speaker
seven hour tour that comes out to three thousand one hundred and fifty dollars So if you're to take that, then your new price is And twenty dollars and if you took people,
00:04:08
Speaker
that gets it down to two hundred and fifty two dollars a person which for me that's pretty good I mean, it's not bad, but what you're not factoring in is that, you know, if it's you, your wife, two kids, and then like you're you're still paying for your family, right? So like the 252 is fine, but you're still paying for your family.
00:04:31
Speaker
Right. But I would definitely do that if yeah we had, see, we're five and we could find another five. I would do that. Yeah, I would do that too because you're talking seven hours in the park and I'm pretty sure depending on which tour you get, like part of that is you go to the front the line of all the rides. so So if you are a DVC member and you are going starting April 26 throughout the summer, this is something you might want to think about if you've got some friends going. So.
00:04:59
Speaker
right, let's hop on over to Disney news. And I'm starting out with one that I know Damon is going to be excited about. So Disney has done a Gravity Falls drone show.
00:05:13
Speaker
Now, this happened back on March 8th, so just a couple of days ago over at Overlook Walk. And this is a collaboration between Disney Books and Disney Television Animation Studios.
00:05:24
Speaker
And this is celebrating the 10-year anniversary of the series finale of Gravity

Theme Park Speculations and Rumors

00:05:31
Speaker
Falls. Are pictures of this thing? I didn't. Well, no. If you look down, there's a link, a YouTube link that actually has video of the drone show. Where? I don't see this link.
00:05:42
Speaker
It's, uh, all right. So if you're in yeah Disney like Gravity Falls. It says YouTube link for video. Are you looking at the... I'm looking at whatever you put in the link and that I clicked on in the show notes.
00:05:54
Speaker
Oh, no, no, no. I see. I see. Yeah, it's at the bottom. Yeah, yeah. Okay. Yeah. All right. So now here's the thing. So in this announcement, first off, can you believe it's been 10 years since Gravity Falls? I mean, it could be the greatest animated show of all time. I... It's possible. You know what? I never watched it until COVID, and my my oldest son turned me on to it. And so we had nothing else to do, so I just started watching it. And it's really good, I have to have to admit. Yeah, I mean, there's also, if I remember correctly, there's a new book coming out as well, ah which should be pretty awesome. Yeah. um
00:06:31
Speaker
I just... I get it was the perfect show. I get it was the perfect ending because it really was. But gosh, I want more. Like, well give me give me give me more. Okay, so now, okay, so there, that's a good segue. So now in this announcement, when it was leading up to the drone show, there was a little little asterisk statement down at the bottom that said, attendees to this event will be filmed for an upcoming commercial from Disney's marketing team.
00:07:02
Speaker
it's not going to be for a new show man it's just not you don't think so it was now maybe it's not a show but what what else but the fact that you see we've seen a graphic novel right that's already been so it's just yeah i don't think we're getting anything else i mean it just ended it did end perfectly but gosh i would like more i mean a grown-up dipper and mabel maybe with their own kids coming back oof wouldn't that be something yeah yeah All right, moving on. So there was an article from DisneyFanatic.com. And basically the the the article is about talking about Space Mountain and asking the question, is it no longer safe from the chopping block? You know, Disney over the last decade has done a lot of
00:07:53
Speaker
up ah renovation, a lot of reimagining. And some folks are wondering now if Space Mountain is coming into the crosshairs of all that reimagining.
00:08:05
Speaker
And the reason they're saying this is, if you think about it, this ride system is ancient compared to all of the other ride systems. That's what makes it so good, though. Man, you've got to admit, though, as you get older, that ride is is kind of hard to... Oh, it definitely is rough.
00:08:24
Speaker
Yeah. But it's still... i Gosh, I can't imagine them changing it. but I mean, maybe they don't change the layout, but there's some there could be some things they the ride as good if it's smooth?
00:08:37
Speaker
I just don't know it is. think it could be. I think it could be. So now the other thing that they're talking about is that Space Mountain. It a straight rumor. and It is. Yeah, this is rumor, right? There's nothing. Disney has not made any announcement.
00:08:50
Speaker
Another one other thing they're talking about is Space Mountain is one of the few remaining attractions at Disney World that is considered original concept and has not had IP integration infused into it. So yeah.
00:09:06
Speaker
with With this latest round of all this IP infusion, they're wondering if something could be coming for that, for like Space Mountain. So again, rumor mill, but we wanted to talk about it anyways. so Yeah.
00:09:24
Speaker
Now, let's move over to Villain's Land. So more details have leaked about the changes that Josh Tomorrow has asked to be implemented for this new land. So if you remember on last week's show, we talked about how Josh Tomorrow paused Villain's Land.
00:09:42
Speaker
the the work on Villain's Land because he wanted the Imagineers to go back and think bigger, think bolder, let's more. And if this is bigger and bolder, like, I'm severely disappointed. Yeah, so first off, one of the details that has leaked is that there will be a roller coaster. Now, there was always going to be a roller coaster. Now, originally,
00:10:03
Speaker
The reports were that this roller coaster was going to be Maleficent themed and it was going to be going through the forest. Which think makes more sense. I kind of agree. Now what we're hearing is that this— Is it confirmed this is still rumor we're talking about? It is.
00:10:18
Speaker
so It's kind of in this gray area right now. So nothing officially confirmed. But now that it looks like this roller coaster is going to be changed to the Emperor's New Groove. If you've ever watched that movie, you know there's not. Yeah, it's just not a bad coaster. It's not. Yeah. So there's that one scene where there yeah they do it. Right. Yeah. i mean, it's not a bad idea, but I just don't think it leads Villain's Land. Right. So the idea was. mean, it's you're you're talking about it might be.
00:10:50
Speaker
I mean, it's going to be the only

New Rides and Innovations

00:10:51
Speaker
coaster to start. Maybe. Maybe. I don't know. I don't like it. Yeah. So, you know... I like it somewhere outside of Villain's Land, to be honest with you. Yeah, I could definitely see that. Now, the the reimagined plans are trying to make this a little more family-friendly. It's Villain's Land. Yeah. The whole point is it shouldn't be family-friendly. So if it's going to be, like, along that Slinky Dog Dash coaster, like, that's bad. Yeah, I...
00:11:23
Speaker
Man, I just hope it's, yeah, they're saying it's going to be Slinky Dog Dash level, you know, more like Seven Dwarfs Mine Train level, but not Rockin' Roller Coaster level. so which it was The theming is going to have to be, like, off the hook.
00:11:38
Speaker
Plus, I mean, while I get that's a big movie, I don't know if my kids have seen it. I've seen it one time. have to. Yeah, I mean, the thing is, I don't, like, I know this, and I know it's a classic, and I know people love it.
00:11:53
Speaker
But, I mean, I've probably only seen it once, maybe. And my kids, maybe not at all. Maybe some of them once, some of them none. You know what I mean? Like, I don't know.
00:12:04
Speaker
I'm not happy about that. i Yeah, I could. I could kind of look over it if they could get Patrick Warburton to come back and and do some grunk on it. So I might could get past that if they could do that. So, all right. The the big e-ticket ride that is going to be set for this land is looking like it's going to be a dark boat ride.
00:12:24
Speaker
Something modeled along the lines of Pirates of the Caribbean, Battle for Sunken Treasure, that is over at Shanghai Disneyland. And I've i've never been on it, but from what I've read and from what I've heard, it is an excellent ride over there. So hopefully that's coming. Now, this one is going to be themed for Maleficent. So we didn't lose Maleficent entirely in the land, but she's moving over to a dark boat ride, which I can i could see that, right? So that kind of jives with that.
00:12:52
Speaker
I could see that, yeah. Yeah. There's going to be a dinner show, Hades-themed soon. If, and of course it's going to have character dining, which is going to be the big draw in Villain's Land anyway. That's why people want this land is to meet up with all these characters. So I think a character dining dinner show was just a complete no brainer here for this. um It's going to be a full service meal and it's going to be, I always have trouble with this term. Is it pricks prefix?
00:13:25
Speaker
I don't even know what that term means. it's So it's going to be a set menu with a set price. you don't okay There's nothing to choose from. you but you might have You might get to choose a dessert.
00:13:37
Speaker
But when you go in, you have three for dinner. They're going to bring you out your three courses, and you don't even get to choose for it. And it's all one price. so Gotcha. Gotcha. ah So ah then there's going to be one more ride. There's not a lot of details. um the The rumor is that it's going to be a flat ride like Dumbo or Magic Carpets.
00:13:59
Speaker
I think they... This is terrible. like if this If this is what we're really looking at, this is pretty terrible. there's There's no innovation. There's cating catering to younger kids, which should not be the case. This is terrible.
00:14:17
Speaker
It's terrible. We got to wait for the, we got to wait for all the details to come out. I mean, listen, as I said, I definitely got to wait for details, but if this is what we're getting, terrible.
00:14:30
Speaker
Yeah. A boat ride. Like, I don't care if it's, you know, a cool boat ride. Like, can, can I get something new? Something? Maybe we get to do something during the boat ride. Like, I don't know. like I don't know, but I tell you, like, you you get these other companies and places that are doing things that are new, right? Like, so even Dollywood has the, you know, the new, what's, I forget what it's called, Nightfire, whatever that thing is, right? Yeah, yeah. Like, why can't we get something new?
00:14:57
Speaker
and Listen, hopefully with more details, there there hopefully will be some, you know, coolness factor added, but if this is just what we're saying, like, Yeah, I'm not in a rush,

Muppet Vision and Virtual Experiences

00:15:08
Speaker
man. Yeah.
00:15:09
Speaker
Yep. All right. Let's move over to Muppets. All right. So, you know, we know that Muppets are coming to rock and roller coaster. But as you are all aware, we recently lost Muppet Vision 3D in the parks to make room for the new Monsters Land. But don't worry, folks.
00:15:29
Speaker
It has now been announced that the Muppet Vision 3D film is coming to Apple Vision Pro headsets. This was recently announced by Brian Henson, who is the son of the late Jim Henson.
00:15:43
Speaker
He that the Muppet Vision 3D is going to be ah made available for Apple Vision Pro and eventually other VR sets, but it's going to come out on the Apple first. And users will be able to go into the theater and choose any seat in the house.
00:15:59
Speaker
And you will be able to watch the show as if you were sitting there in the theater. I don't like this. I mean, this is something that should stay around forever. yeah and i think that's I think that they should do this for all rides that are canceled. like let me Let me get Ellen.
00:16:16
Speaker
Let me get Ellen on Apple Vision Pro. You might start seeing that. I mean, I can see, I remember when when Muppet Vision 3D was shutting down and they knew it was going to end I read reports that they were calling in cast members to come act as audience members for a special screening and a special filming. And you have to think this is why they did that. so that they But I mean, it it would be tough to go back and do that with older rides. I wish they did.
00:16:46
Speaker
Right. Gosh, can you imagine a walkthrough of River Country? Oh, yeah. or the Or the adventures through, um oh gosh, there was ah a mine train ride back at Disney World way, way long time ago, and i'm blanking on the name of it. I wish i don't know. i do 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea would be great. There'd be a lot of things that I would want to do yeah so hopefully Hopefully, Disney will start doing this for any future rides that they intend to take down.

Speaker
So anyway, Muppet Vision 3D is coming to Apple Vision Pro. So if you have one of those, be on the lookout. 00:19:14
Speaker
And we are back with the after show. Okay, let's head over to Pigeon Forge over at Dollywood area. Now, this one, first one is not about Dollywood. This is about an attraction that was scheduled to be built in Pigeon Forge. It was a Nerf attraction.
00:19:34
Speaker
Unfortunately, we just got news that that attraction has now been canceled. And I'm surprised because I thought that they were further along with this. Yeah. So then this was a collaboration between Nerf and the folks at Crayola. So both of those were going to be under the same building and they were building a dual attraction.
00:19:53
Speaker
There was really no reason stated why. Well, it was it makes sense because of the other park that Hasbro is now a building. Right. The, ah the Mattel, um, Hot Wheels park, right? Correct.
00:20:07
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. Well, I mean, it's got other things too, but yeah, I think that the Hasbro, um, park has kind of put a damper on this because i mean, right.
00:20:19
Speaker
Yeah. Why not? Yeah. Yeah. And I'm sure they'll, I don't know, turn it into whatever that building is for. They'll turn it into some putt-putt place or something like that, unfortunately. i i so The only thing I am surprised about is, though, excuse me, is that the Mattel Adventure Park has no nerf, really.
00:20:35
Speaker
I wonder if that means that they'll take some of that and put it into the park at a future date. Maybe they got scared that they didn't think the nerf was enough to hold its own full attraction. And they, yeah, and they decided to move it into yeah the bigger part of that. So anyway, so be on the

Universal's Expansion Plans

00:20:55
Speaker
lookout. Yes. So no nerf attraction us standalone is coming to Pigeon Forge.
00:21:01
Speaker
All right, let's let's head over across the pond over to the United Kingdom. Universal has announced that infrastructure projects are commencing for the theme park that is being built in England. So this is being built in Bedford, England.
00:21:19
Speaker
And the reason that these ah this project announcement is important is because they this is all infrastructure. So think water, think electrical, think sewage. All of that means that that Universal is serious about this and we are kind of at a point of no return. Because once you start building that infrastructure, you're you're in it for the long haul. I'm just going to be so interested to see what they do in terms of this park.
00:21:48
Speaker
Right. In the terms, I mean, IP-wise, we know we're going to get Harry Potter. Oh. But are we going to get u s rides or new rides?
00:21:57
Speaker
I wonder if they put Jurassic Park there. I think you'd have to, wouldn't you? I mean, I don't know, but i did the question always is new rides or rides that we already have. Right. I don't know. It's interesting, though. More parks is always better. Yes, more parks for more people to help thin out the crowds. All right, let's let's stay at Universal, but let's come back over to the United States.
00:22:22
Speaker
who this is This one's tough. So eat the E.T. Adventure Ride at Universal There's a big question. Which is long in the tooth, by the way. It is very, very long in the tooth. So there's a question about it is being overhauled. And the question is, will that overhaul being done by 2028? So what are we talking about? Permits have been filed by Universal that deal with some unspecified work to be done on the ride. Now, the interesting thing in here is that the permits don't expire until November of 2028.
00:22:59
Speaker
Folks, that is two full years almost. So actually it's over two full years. So the duration of these permits strongly suggests that this is more than just routine maintenance. And just to give you some background, this ride opened in 1990, which means it is 36 years old. Now they've done some refurb over the years, but I rode it a couple years ago, and you could tell that it was running, but it wasn't at top shape, and some of the some of the animatronics were not not working correctly. An E.T. Adventure with new animatronics would be... Oh, yeah.
00:23:42
Speaker
Yeah, that would be cool. Yeah, so... But what yeah what little is known suggests the ride is getting major updates to bring it more in line with current ride systems. I will say, I thought the the whole concept of you pedaling the bike over overhead. That was really cool.
00:23:58
Speaker
Yeah. First time. I like the ride a lot. It just, it needs a refresh. Yeah. Needs a refresh. So hopefully over the next two and a half years, we are going to get something that keeps this, uh, keeps this ride going and keeps it fresh because I'm surprised there hasn't been any other ET

Future Content Teasers and Farewell

00:24:14
Speaker
movies. Like, you know, they, they redo everything in the world. Like how has ET been saved from like a redo? Yeah.
00:24:21
Speaker
I, I kind of hope they don't. yeah i to me that yeah That would just ruin in it for me. So, all right, folks. Well, that is going to do it for This is our shortest show ever. I think this might be our shortest show ever. so and And you know what? I'll be honest with you with me and Blake having allergies. Like I don't, I don't know if the level of effort on finding news was, was at its strongest yeah this past week. I'll be honest with you. So,
00:24:50
Speaker
we got to We got to take a medical exemption for this show, folks. We promise. We we will be back true to form next in two weeks on the next show. But we want to thank our sponsor, DontResistTheTravel.com.
00:25:03
Speaker
Let them help you out with those trips out to the UK to go see this new Universal Park. Let them help you with trips to Pigeon Forge so that you can go visit the Mattel Park. They can help you out with any type of trip you are looking for. Oh, wait. I forgot, though.
00:25:18
Speaker
I forgot. Speaking of trips, I forgot I'm going to Hilton Head. well Oh, you didn't tell me that. I mean, I know your kid just went. I'm in Hilton Head like next week. Oh my gosh.
00:25:29
Speaker
I know. I forgot to even talk about that. or All right. Well, let's pause for a second. All right. Let's pause wait for a second. Let's pause for a second. where where You're going to Hilton Head. How long are you staying? Um, I think just Friday and Saturday. Okay. it's my but Sweet 16.
00:25:45
Speaker
So she's inviting some friends. We got a two bedroom for one night and then we got a three bedroom for one night. That's all they had. Um, But I'm excited for the three-bedroom.
00:25:57
Speaker
um You'll have to give a trip report. to should Yeah, yeah, definitely we do that. But it will be there Friday and Saturday next week. Of next week. All right. Yep. Do you have any plans while you're here? Are you just going to play it as you can? It's not my show, right? It's her birthday. And all they want to do is sit on the beach.
00:26:18
Speaker
So I don't know what I'll actually be doing. Like, I may be hanging out by the pool, right? So the way that Hilton Head is, is there's two sides. You have the resort, and then you have the side on the beach, right? and you kind of either drive or...
00:26:32
Speaker
take one of the trams or whatever, but like we'll usually drive over there. And on the other side, there's a pool there as well. Smaller pool. Um, you know, just places to sit and you can get dole whips and things like that.
00:26:43
Speaker
I don't know. Like, I don't know, like I'm not a sit around at the beach person, so I don't know where I'm going to find myself on the resort end or that side, uh, for, for the time that they're on the beach. But my guess is that they're probably going to be on the beach for like hours and hours.
