00:00:13
Speaker
Hey folks, welcome to episode number 15 of the Rhubarb Travelers podcast. We are recording this show on Thursday, March 26, 2026.
00:00:24
Speaker
march twenty six twenty twenty six i am Blake. Damon is not here today. So folks, don't worry. He didn't go anywhere.
00:00:35
Speaker
ah Damon is feeling a little under the weather. We delayed recording just as long as we possibly could. But eventually, Damon said, you know what? This is just not going to happen this week. So why don't you go ahead, Blake, and record this show, this episode, solo. So that is what I am doing today. Folks, you're only going to have me today. And in fact, Damon, it kind of came out like, Blake, you're going to have to do this solo. I can't talk. So by the way, that was an actual recording of Damon saying that. So folks, you just got me today, but we're going to do this show and we're going to have a good time doing it. So thank you so

all right, let's head on over.
Favorite Disney Springs Restaurants
00:02:06
Speaker
We've got some listener questions this week. So we've got two of them. So I wanted to answer them. Michelle D wants to know, what is your favorite Disney spring restaurant?
00:02:19
Speaker
For those of you who are not familiar with how many restaurants there are, there are 69 restaurants or places to eat at Disney Springs in total. And I have been personally to three of those. And I'm mainly looking at the sit-down style restaurant. I'm not going to be looking at quick eats like Earl's Sandwich or things like that. So I have been to...
00:02:46
Speaker
Maria and Enzo's Ristorante. I've been to the Paddlefish and I have been to Morimoto Asia. All of those are excellent. and But I will have to say that I think my favorite is Maria and Enzo's Ristorante.
00:03:01
Speaker
I'm just a fan of Italian food. I like the service there. I like the ambiance. Morimoto was very nice. Don't get me wrong. I love it. I think I'm just more along the lines of the Italian cuisine. And Paddlefish was very nice.
00:03:18
Speaker
um I went there for a company function, so it was more along the lines of a buffet style, which is not traditionally what the Paddlefish is for.
00:03:31
Speaker
But don't get me wrong, the food was very good. But I will say that Maria and Enzo's is my favorite place to eat at Disney Springs.
Future Disneyland Trip Plans
00:03:41
Speaker
Okay, Steve G. wants to know, if you were going to Disneyland, would you also go Knott's Berry Farm and Universal Studios Hollywood? So let me preface all this by saying I have not been to Disneyland yet. This is a bucket list trip for me for sure.
00:04:02
Speaker
And i think for the very first time I would go to Disneyland, I might do those other places, but I would want to make sure that I got my fill of Disneyland before I did those others. Now, I've always heard that Disneyland is a two to three day park at the most.
00:04:22
Speaker
Being on the East Coast, having to go out to the West Coast, I would more than likely schedule a week trip for this and i can see myself doing the two to three days at disneyland just to make sure i get everything done but then yes absolutely i would go to nots sperry farm and universal studios hollywood to experience those and Mainly because I would go to Knott's Berry Farm actually before I would go to Universal Studios Hollywood. Because if you know your Disney history, Knott's Berry Farm has been around for a very, very long time. They were actually in operations before Disneyland was ever created.
00:05:07
Speaker
And Walt Disney actually took some inspiration from Knott's Berry Farm when designing Disneyland. So I think, so yes, I would go to Knott's Berry Farm just for the continuity purposes of saying this is kind of how Disneyland got started.
00:05:25
Speaker
And then I would maybe go to Universal Studios Hollywood after that. So thank you for those questions. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to send them to Damon and i over at rhubarbtravelerspodcast at gmail.com.
Disney DVC Tax Increase
00:05:42
Speaker
We are always checking that email and we would love to answer your questions. So please send them.
00:05:48
Speaker
All right, let's head on over and do some DVC news. And first up, one-time use points. So first off, what are one-time use points? If you have points that are in your account,
00:06:03
Speaker
but for whatever reason you don't have enough points to complete a stay or to add enough days onto your stay, you have the ability as a DVC member to purchase one-time use points directly from Disney. Well, Disney is now adding a tax onto the purchase of those one-time use points. That did not used to exist, but now they are doing it.
00:06:29
Speaker
And what this tax does is it effectively raises the price of one-time use points from $20 point to $22.50 a point. two twenty two dollars and fifty cents a point So tax will now start to be added to every point that you purchased directly from disney for one time you So if you are planning a trip anytime soon and you are going to have to use one-time use points, just be aware that you're going to see a slight increase in the purchase of those points directly from Disney.
00:07:05
Speaker
All right, moving on over to the Treehouse Villas at Saratoga Springs Resort.
Resort Refurbishments
00:07:12
Speaker
Treehouse Villas are going to be undergoing a major refurbishment. So they've already started, him and it is going to last until September of this year, 2026. Now, this is going to be the first major refurbishment of these units since they opened way back in 2009. And can you believe that is 17 years ago, the Treehouse Villas opened over at Saratoga Springs, and this is the first major refurbishment
00:07:40
Speaker
that they are undergoing. So usually when you have a major refurbishment, that is a complete change out of all the amenities, such as the bedding, the furniture, the TVs, et cetera, et cetera.
00:07:53
Speaker
So they don't have a lot of details about what exactly is going to be refurbished. But if you are planning a trip to the Treehouse Villas at Saratoga Springs, just be aware that there will be some construction and refurbishment going on during your time ah between now and September of this year.
00:08:17
Speaker
In other refurbishment news, the Luna Pool over at the Boardwalk Resort is going to be closed for four months starting January 11th of 2027.
00:08:30
Speaker
twenty twenty seven Now, we know that's quite a bit of ways, but we are now in that 11-month booking window for folks where so for where Boardwalk is your home resort. So if you are planning a trip in 2027, starting in January and running through possibly the beginning of May,
00:08:51
Speaker
you will want to know that the pool at Boardwalk is going to be closed for refurbishment. Now, the last refurb on this pool happened back in 2020 where they took down the infamous creepy clown.
00:09:05
Speaker
So we're going to see some new refurbishments coming to that. So be on the lookout. And I will say that I have stayed at Boardwalk Resort when our oldest son graduated from high school. That is where we stayed for 10 days for his graduation trip. We thoroughly enjoyed it. If you have never stayed at Boardwalk, it's a great location. It has easy access to Epcot. You can walk from Boardwalk through the International Entrance, International Gateway at Epcot, so you're within walking distance.
00:09:43
Speaker
ah You have access to the Skyliner right there, so that gives you access to Disney Hollywood Studios. It gives you access to a couple of the other resorts.
00:09:54
Speaker
And also it's actually within walking distance of Disney Hollywood Studios. We walked to Disney Hollywood Studios a couple of times while we were there. It's less than a mile walk. So, it you know, at a good normal pace, it'll take you less than 15 minutes. And it's a great walk along that waterway. So I highly recommend if you have never been to Boardwalk and Stayed, try it out. It will be worth your money.
00:10:22
Speaker
Okay, let's move away from DVC and start talking about Disney news in
Live-action Tangled Casting
00:10:27
Speaker
general. And first off... is the new live-action Tangled movie has got some details around it, specifically about who will be starring in it. And in this movie, we now know that Milo Mannheim, who, if you are familiar with the Zombies TV series franchise on Disney Channel, will be playing the part of Flynn Rider, who is the thief in the movie, the main character,
00:10:56
Speaker
Also, Australian actress Tegan Croft will be playing Rapunzel. and Now, previously, she played the part of Raven on the DC Universe TV series Titans.
00:11:07
Speaker
And the big news coming out is that Katherine Hahn, who played Agatha Harkness in WandaVision, and Agatha all along is part of the the Marvel TV series network.
00:11:22
Speaker
She will be playing Mother Gothel. So filming filming is expected to begin in the middle of this year. Now, there's no release date has been announced for this yet. However, because filming is just going to be starting up pretty soon, that means a release date is not going to be until at least...
00:11:43
Speaker
2027 and could extend out into 2028. twenty eight So just the big news here, Catherine Hahn will be coming back in front of us as Mother Gothel in the live action remake of Tangled.
New Bluey Show and Attraction
00:11:57
Speaker
Let's head on over to Disneyland in California where the new Bluey show has opened. Now, it's called Bluey's Best Day Ever. It is a live show. It's a dance party. And, of course, it features a lot of the characters from the show. And I think it goes without saying that the opening of this show has kind of shifted the center of gravity of Disneyland Park over towards that area.
00:12:28
Speaker
ay And here's some interesting things. the The very first day it opened, they actually had to add capacity to the show as the day went on. And eventually what happened is they let basically double the amount of people that they originally intended into the show than when it started at the beginning of the day.
00:12:52
Speaker
So this show is a little different than the shows such as the Lightning McQueen show that was over in ah Disney Hollywood Studios, where there was a set time, a set a set beginning time, a set end time. This this one is a little more free-flowing where the end is not so defined.
00:13:13
Speaker
They don't rush people out of there. So they actually realized during as the day went on that they needed cast members to kind of gently prod folks to, hey,
00:13:26
Speaker
It's time to head out because we got to do another show for the next group. So as the day went on, cast members were seen encouraging folks to head on out. now Now, of course, this show was an immediate sellout. And what was happening is there were so many people lining up for that. They were actually shutting off the line immediately. in between shows and they were letting people know, you know what, you're just, you're going to need to come back for the next lineup for the show because we have reached capacity.
00:13:57
Speaker
And not only was this affecting the show line itself, nearby food spots like the Troubadour that is near the show, had stopped walk-up orders by 9.30 in the morning. So there was nothing available for lunch. They were not having walk-ups for dinner.
00:14:17
Speaker
And all the return times for mobile orders, if you happen to use mobile orders in your dis Disney Genie app, all of the return times for mobile orders were gone by 10 o'clock that morning. So it goes without saying that the Bluey show yeah The bluey phenomenon is real, and it is thankfully adding some capacity over to Disneyland.
00:14:43
Speaker
But for the time being, you're going to see a lot of crowds over in this area. So as you are going over to Disneyland, just be aware of this. And if you have kids that want to go see this, make sure you get in line early because it's going to be a tough ticket to get.
00:15:00
Speaker
Staying in the Bluey theme, Bluey's Wild World is opening on May 26th over at Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World. Now, of course, this is replacing the former Rafiki's Planet Watch at Conservation Station over in that corner of the park. Now,
00:15:19
Speaker
This is going to be an animal experience, so it's not going to change all that much in that respect. What they are going to be doing is bringing in native Australian wildlife to match up with the theme of the show.
00:15:33
Speaker
Now, i'm going to it's going to be interesting to see the logistics of that. So if you are familiar with this area of the park, the only way... you can get back to this area is via that train that runs. So it's not something that you can just walk up to. It's not something that you can go in and out of easily.
00:15:55
Speaker
I can't help but think that this train is going to be a huge bottleneck in getting folks back and forth. So I think you're going to see, first off, another gravity shift in a park because bluy the bluey phenomenon is the real deal, folks. If you're not into this bluey craze, it's big and it's real, and you're going to see a lot of people lining up for this event.
00:16:23
Speaker
attraction once it opens. So if you're heading on over to Animal Kingdom around May 26 or after, you will want to know that this is coming. It's going to be big. So just be aware.
Buzz Lightyear Ride Updates
00:16:37
Speaker
All right, let's head on over to the Magic Kingdom where Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin, that refurbishment is coming to an end and cast member previews have started for the new ride.
00:16:54
Speaker
Now, this ride is going to be opening in just over a week from the recording of this episode. It is going to be opening on April 8th, and there is a new video that has come out.
00:17:09
Speaker
where it gives you the first look at the new ride. And I've linked the the video to that in our show notes that is available to our Patreon subscribers. And it looks pretty cool, got to be honest. So with this new refurbishment, um the blasters are going to be removable. You're going to be able to pull them out of their carrier. going to be able to point and aim them better than the original blasters you were able to. There's going to be visible laser targeting, so you're going to actually know what you're aiming at, which is going to be a huge upgrade from the original ride. And the cars themselves, there's going to be some updated video monitors that show your score. If you remember the old ride, you had the old-style LED block numbers.
00:17:55
Speaker
Now you're going to have a video screen. You're going to see updated scores, and it's going to show you what you're scoring. It's going to show you what your partner is scoring. And then the they're going to be the targets within this are going to be interactive. They're going to light up when you hit them. And not only are they going to light up, they're going to light up with the color of the laser gun that hit it. So if you hit it, it will flash your color. If your partner hits it, it will flash their color. So there's going to be a lot more interaction between you and the targets. There's also going to be a new...
00:18:30
Speaker
scene for this as you are going through that big dome tunnel where Buzz is flying around. That's going to be new. It's going to have some new show elements in that. And also, before the ride starts, you are going to interact with a new buddy who will guide you through the system. So all of that is coming.
00:18:49
Speaker
And so be on the lookout. April 8th, the new Buzz Lightyear ride will be opening to the general public.
Big Thunder Mountain Reopening
00:18:58
Speaker
All right, let's stay in Magic Kingdom and head over to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, where it is also going to be reopening very soon. News from Disney is that it will reopen in early May of this year. So what is part of that refurbishment? There are going to be new train cars that are coming out. They have refreshed the audio animatronics throughout this entire ride. Over the years, a lot of these animatronics have gone into B-mode.
00:19:30
Speaker
Disney has gone through and refreshed all of these. So everything should be working that has not worked for years. In addition, they've got some new rainbow caverns inside of it that will come to life and push back against these these explorers that are coming through the caverns. And according to Disney, there is there's going to be quote-unquote actual gold that you will see inside these caverns. So The big takeaway here, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is reopening in early May, and that is going to help out quite a bit as far as crowds and thinning out the crowds throughout the park.
00:20:13
Speaker
Okay, let's head over to Disney Cruise
Disney Adventure Ship Memos
00:20:18
Speaker
Lines. And this segment of the show we're going to call the People Are Gonna People segment. So, as you know, Disney Adventure, the newest boat in the Disney Cruise Line fleet, has just started sailing. And this is the giant boat that Bob Chapek bought for pennies on the dollar back when he was CEO.
00:20:43
Speaker
It is now sailing, and after just a few sailings, Disney has now started putting memos inside the staterooms indicating that the amenities and furnishings in the room are shockingly supposed to stay there, and you're not supposed to take them home. So what apparently is happening is people are taking some of the bedding home, such as the blankets and the pillowcases and the towels and other things like that. And the reason that is, and I posted a photo, a stock photo from Disney of the Disney Adventure Room in the show notes, a lot of this bedding and towels um has branding on it that is specific to the Disney Adventure, most notably in this picture The pillowcases have Disney Adventure written on them. And then there's that blanket, that half blanket at the foot of the bed. I cannot remember but what that what that blanket is called.
00:21:48
Speaker
But that blanket has in the embroidery... Disney Adventure written on it. It has the Disney Cruise Line logos all in it. So apparently what's happening is people are sneaking those in their luggage and taking them home. So Disney has resorted to leaving a memo in rooms saying that if you take this stuff home, we're going to have to charge you for it. So if you're heading on the Disney Adventure or any Disney Cruise Line for that matter, don't be like those people. Leave that there so that other people can enjoy it.
00:22:21
Speaker
right, folks, that is going to do it for our Disney news this week. We are going to take a moment to hear a word from our sponsor. And then when we come back, we will go to the after show.

Sesame Workshop Lawsuit
00:24:12
Speaker
back. All right, folks, it is the after shows. Let's head on over to SeaWorld. We haven't talked about SeaWorld in a while. And in breaking news, Sesame Street Workshop is suing SeaWorld to leave the partnership that they have been in for the past 40 years. And that is a long time, folks.
00:24:35
Speaker
So what's happening is Sesame Workshop is claiming that SeaWorld has breached their contract by not paying the royalties that they owe Sesame Workshop to use all of the characters within their parks. Now,
00:24:51
Speaker
This is really, really kind of big news because not only does this affect SeaWorld in Florida, but SeaWorld actually owns other parks throughout the world. And most notably, the Sesame Place in Pennsylvania, which, ah man, that's amazing.
00:25:11
Speaker
if they have to remove those characters from that park, I'm not exactly sure what's going to happen to Sesame place in Pennsylvania. Not only does SeaWorld own that one, they own both Bush garden parks in Tampa and Williamsburg. Now I, I have not been to the Bush gardens in Tampa, but I have been to the one in Williamsburg and there is an entire area within that park that utilizes the Sesame street characters. So,
00:25:41
Speaker
You know, if if something's not worked out, what's going to have to eventually happen is SeaWorld's not going to be able to use those characters. So here's hoping that Sesame and SeaWorld can iron this out and we will continue to see the Sesame Street characters in these parks.
00:25:59
Speaker
All right, let's head on over to Universal in
Universal's Epic Universe Plans
00:26:02
Speaker
Florida. Universal has filed permits for a new building at what we believe to be the Wizarding World in Epic Universe. So the the permit filed is for a specific type of building called a PEMB, and that's an acronym that stands for Pre-Engineered Metal Building. So this is a type of building where you construct a lot of it off-site,
00:26:26
Speaker
And then you bring it on site and assemble it all together. So this was filed by the Baker Barrios Architects on behalf of Universal Orlando. Now, the interesting thing here is this is the same company that filed permits back in December for 150,000 square feet of construction in the backstage right behind the Harry Potter Ministry of Magic. So while nothing is confirmed yet, everything is pointing towards something is going on in this area of the park. Now, the big question here is, does this tie with
00:27:06
Speaker
with yet another permit that was filed literally just two days ago from the time of this recording. This permit was filed on March 24th, and it was for quote-unquote future attraction at Epic Universe. Now, the permit...
00:27:26
Speaker
four is for a physical address that corresponds to this current backstage area at Epic Universe near harry potter Harry Potter Ministry of Magic. And the details on this permit are they are for mass grading of the ground, utility points of connection, and reroutes for infrastructures.
00:27:50
Speaker
And this is for early work purposes on a future attraction known as Project 680. six eighty So here's the really interesting part. The permit, this was filed with the Orange County Register,
00:28:05
Speaker
And it was pulled less than 24 hours later. So the question is, what is Project 680? And does it tie in with all of these other permits that have been filed recently? And you can't help but think the answer is yes. So something is brewing over at Harry Potter's Ministry of Magic.
00:28:30
Speaker
Everything is pointing to a new attraction, which it would be excellent news to help out with the crowds at that park.
New Harry Potter Series
00:28:41
Speaker
And speaking of Harry Potter, in huge news for the Harry Potter fans of the world, an official teaser trailer has now been released for HBO's new Harry Potter TV series.
00:28:59
Speaker
The series is actually in unexpected news. The series is going to be premiering earlier than originally expected. So originally HBO announced that the the show was going to start in 2027. But now HBO has confirmed the series is going to start in December of this year, 2026.
00:29:20
Speaker
twenty twenty six and it is planned four seven full seasons. They have already announced that. And this is going to last an entire decade. So what the plan is going to be, they're going to start this TV series with Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.
00:29:39
Speaker
And we'll essentially go through the entire movie series, but do it in a TV series format. So I suspect we're going to get a lot more detail, a lot more storytelling than what they were able to do in the movies, just because you have so much more time to be able to tell stories in a TV series type format. And HBO is saying that this is going to be a quote unquote faithful adaptation of the Harry Potter book series. So,
00:30:14
Speaker
If you have not gone online yet, head ah out online and look for the official trailer for the new Harry Potter series that is being presented by h b o Okay, at Universal Orlando, Halloween Horror Nights 35.
Halloween Horror Nights Tickets
00:30:31
Speaker
Tickets have gone on sale. They went live today. That is Thursday, March 26. Now, the event kicks off on August 28th and runs through November 1st. There are three dates in August where these nights are going on, and then, of course, one day in November, However, there are many, many, many dates in September and October where Halloween Horror Nights will be going on.
00:31:00
Speaker
Single night tickets are starting $88 a person. That is from last year. And they go all the way up to $130 a person. And those there are three days where it hits $130. Those are the three Saturdays leading up to Halloween. Interestingly enough, ah the actual Halloween night, it's actually $120. So the three most expensive nights are not on Halloween. They are the three Saturdays leading up to Halloween. Now, new this year.
00:31:34
Speaker
If you add the after 2 p.m. Universal Studios florida Florida admission to your holly excuse me ah Halloween Horror Nights tickets, you're going to get early access to at least three houses ah haunted houses starting at two o'clock in the afternoon. So if you are headed that way, you can add on that um part to your ticket and you will be able to get into some houses early. The pricing for that add on starts at $70 and then scales up depending on the night that you go. Also available for Halloween Horror Nights is going to be Express Pass. You can add that on as well.
00:32:16
Speaker
And with Express Pass, it's just like the Express Pass for the rest of Universal Orlando. You will be able to use a dedicated line and avoid the long standby queues that are normally associated with these haunted houses. Now, the prices for this start at $170 a person. That is an increase of $30 from last year. Now, these Express Passes don't guarantee front of the line access But guests can expect wait time to be cut at least in half of posted wait times. I would suspect it's going to be kind of like the way Express Pass is for the rest of the rides over at Universal Orlando. they're going to cut down on your wait time quite a bit. If you are going to Halloween Horror Nights, I would i would recommend this. you know I think an express pass at Universal is always worth the money to help cut down on your wait times.
00:33:17
Speaker
right, folks, that is going to wrap it up for this week's episode. Thank you so much for hanging with me all this time while I run this episode solo. I personally cannot wait for Damon to be back in two weeks so that we can do this show as a team.
