Speaker: Welcome to the Solarpreneur Podcast, where we teach you to take your solar business to the next level.

Speaker: My name is Taylor Armstrong.

Speaker: I went from $50 in my bank account and struggling for groceries to closing 150 deals in a year and cracking the code on why sales reps fail.

Speaker: I teach you how to avoid the mistakes I made and bring in the top solar dogs of the industry to let you in on the secrets of generating more leads, falling up like a pro, and closing more deals.

Speaker: What is a solopreneur you might ask?

Speaker: A solopreneur is a new breed of solopro that is willing to do whatever it takes to achieve mastery and you are about to become one.

Speaker: What's up, solopreneurs?

Speaker: Today, we're going to be talking about how you can increase your value in solar.

Speaker: And if you are feeling undervalued or if you are in a rut, this episode is for you.

Speaker: Welcome to the podcast.

Speaker: My name is Taylor Armstrong.

Speaker: We're here to help you close more deals, generate more leads and referrals, and hopefully have a much better time in the solar industry.

Speaker: And speaking of referrals, thank you to everyone that did make it to our referral bootcamp.

Speaker: Let me know if you want to come to our future events that are going on

Speaker: You can go shoot us a follow on Instagram or on Facebook or shoot us an email at support at solarpreneur.com.

Speaker: You can join our email newsletter that we are starting to hear all the latest and greatest of the podcast and tips and tricks that you don't want to miss out on.

Speaker: But thank you for tuning in today.

Speaker: This is recorded a little bit late here.

Speaker: Just got back from a close, a deal that I was able to close getting back at, you know, 10 o'clock at night, the usual on the grind in the hustle, just like everyone that's listening to this podcast should be.

Speaker: Hey, if you're not getting home at nine or 10 o'clock at night, sometimes then what are you doing?

Speaker: You got to be out when people are home.

Speaker: Hopefully not every night, but some nights you got to you got to sacrifice.

Speaker: And I came across this little soundbite in a TikTok video.

Speaker: I'm not even on TikTok, but I just happened to stumble across this little soundbite.

Speaker: Maybe some of you youngsters have heard it.

Speaker: Old guys like me, we're not really on TikTok.

Speaker: Once you've been doing solar eight plus years, you'll understand.

Speaker: Probably should get on TikTok.

Speaker: Let me know if you would like to see a solar printer or TikTok.

Speaker: If you guys are on there, I don't even know.

Speaker: Maybe everyone's on there and I'm the one that's not on there.

Speaker: All it was saying is that you buy a bottle of water at the supermarket, costs 50 cents.

Speaker: You buy it at movie theater, costs $2.

Speaker: You buy it on an airplane, costs $6.

Speaker: You buy it in California where I'm at, it costs $10.

Speaker: Okay, it just keeps going up and up and up.

Speaker: But why does it go up?

Speaker: It's because of the location, right?

Speaker: And it got me thinking, a lot of us doing solar,

Speaker: We can relate, at least I could relate.

Speaker: Just listen to this little sound clip.

Speaker: I remember when I first started in solar back eight years ago in 2016, before probably a lot of you were born listening to this podcast, I was not in the greatest environment.

Speaker: And I think it held me back for sure.

Speaker: Okay, so it got me thinking, what are some ways that we can hopefully increase our value or possibly get out of ruts that we're in?

Speaker: And a lot of that I think can help.

Speaker: fall back on our location, on the crowd we're surrounding with.

Speaker: You hear me talk about in the podcasts and you hear, you know, all these self-development gurus say you're the average of the five people you spend the most time with.

Speaker: And I think it definitely, there's something to be said about that.

Speaker: Okay.

Speaker: So, I mean, the first thing I just mentioned when I first started in solar,

Speaker: I was hanging out with guys that maybe didn't have the highest aspirations, the highest goals.

Speaker: I remember I would go out knocking all the time with guys that were my friends, but we're probably too good of friends.

Speaker: We would mess around.

Speaker: We would, you know, play, you know, stupid phone games in the car.

Speaker: We would get watching like Game of Thrones.

Speaker: We would just like waste time chatting for hours in the car.

Speaker: We'd get out maybe on prime time, go out for a couple hours.

Speaker: And I remember continued on like that for quite a while.

Speaker: And it definitely held me back in solar.

Speaker: Because I was really good friends with these people.

Speaker: I was having a great time, but I wasn't reaching my potential.

Speaker: And so you have to check your goals.

Speaker: What are your goals?

Speaker: Maybe you can relate.

Speaker: Maybe you're hanging out with people that you're really good friends with in solar.

Speaker: You guys are knocking together, but you're talking to like two people the whole day.

Speaker: You're knocking together all day long.

Speaker: You're just like taking 20 minutes between doors because you're talking about the homeowner.

Speaker: that just told you to get the F off his property.

Speaker: We know a lot about those things, but are we having conversations about it all day long?

Speaker: We need to make sure we're using our time efficiently.

Speaker: So that's point number one.

Speaker: Check yourself, check the people that you're hanging around and possibly check the company you're with, right?

Speaker: Are you the top guy at your company?

Speaker: You should never be the top guy at your, okay, I guess in some exceptions, but you probably shouldn't be the top guy at your company.

Speaker: You need to be surrounded by people that are better than you.

Speaker: We've all heard if you're the smartest guy in the room, you're in the wrong room.

Speaker: So consider that when you're maybe joining a company.

Speaker: Look at what the top guys are doing.

Speaker: Jesus said, by their fruits, he shall know them.

Speaker: So look at the fruits of the people you're hanging out with.

Speaker: And I think this is something that can definitely be holding a lot of people back that are listening to this episode.

Speaker: And another change you could think about making, if you are in a rut, if you are in a slump, physically change the location.

Speaker: Maybe you're working in one area.

Speaker: It's just not bearing fruits.

Speaker: You're not having success.

Speaker: Maybe you need to go do a blitz.

Speaker: Maybe you need to go jump to a different area.

Speaker: And I'm all about sticking in an area, talking to everybody, building momentum, finding success.

Speaker: But sometimes I think just mentally, we need to go talk to a different demographic.

Speaker: We need to go on a blitz.

Speaker: I've talked to many guys on the podcast in an interview I just did today, actually, with one of the top producers here in our office in San Diego.

Speaker: And he talked about one of the biggest things that changed his state.

Speaker: that changed his trajectory towards success is he went out and did a blitz.

Speaker: He got around people that were just hustling all day long and he changed the inputs.

Speaker: And this is how he had one of his big breakthroughs.

Speaker: So consider maybe doing a blitz.

Speaker: Consider maybe talking to a different demographic.

Speaker: These are all great things you can change if you're in a rut.

Speaker: And if you are maybe filling down, if you haven't closed the deal in a while, consider changing.

Speaker: not only the people you hang around with, but consider actually changing the location of where you're working, where you're knocking doors.

Speaker: And then last but not least, consider changing mentors.

Speaker: Like we all should have a coach.

Speaker: We all should have a mentor.

Speaker: Not only do we need to surround ourselves by the right people, but we need to surround ourselves with the right mentor.

Speaker: If you don't have the right coach, the right mentor, then that's something that can severely stunt your growth as well.

Speaker: I've seen so many people leave this industry just because they got bad coaching because they don't have someone to learn from that is crushing it.

Speaker: And something I've learned too, this has actually been a little bit eye-opening for me being with now a bigger company down here in San Diego, is sometimes you have to demand the right mentor.

Speaker: There's so many people that are just passive that wait for the right opportunity.

Speaker: And they sometimes just let things pass them by because they don't want to go out and demand anything.

Speaker: They don't want to go ask for a different mentor.

Speaker: They don't want to create conflict.

Speaker: Sometimes you just have to do it.

Speaker: I just think all the times I always joke with my wife because we will go out to dinner sometimes and we'll get the wrong order.

Speaker: The steak will be cooked too well, whatever.

Speaker: And my wife, she hates confrontation.

Speaker: So however the food comes out, she'll just like eat it.

Speaker: She'll take two bites.

Speaker: She doesn't want to say anything.

Speaker: But I'm like, no, babe, you need to demand excellence.

Speaker: You need to demand they cook the food how you ask for it.

Speaker: We need to stop being passive.

Speaker: We need to get what we deserve.

Speaker: So lesson to you, lesson to the wives, listen to this podcast.

Speaker: If they bring you the wrong food, if it's not cooked correctly, make them go cook it correctly.

Speaker: But apply to solar, go demand what you need.

Speaker: If you are at a bigger company,

Speaker: And if you have maybe a mentor, if you're on maybe a team that's not cutting it, then you got to go out and demand that you are on the right squad, that you do have the right leader.

Speaker: Because we can't just sit passive.

Speaker: This is your future.

Speaker: This is your success we're talking about.

Speaker: You deserve the best.

Speaker: You deserve it right now.

Speaker: And you need to make sure you are in the right situation, the right opportunity to get it.

Speaker: And if you are not, hit me up.

Speaker: We got a few spaces on our team.

Speaker: Or if that's not possible, we do also have for a limited time, a couple openings in our coaching group.

Speaker: Okay, where we will teach you everything A to Z. We'll put you in the right environment.

Speaker: We're going to surround you with like-minded people.

Speaker: Maybe if you feel like you're not getting that at your current company, it might be what you're missing.

Speaker: So hit me up if you want to apply for our one-on-one coaching.

Speaker: Get in our coaching group and be coached by the best in solar.

Speaker: Shoot me an email, taylorsolarpreneur.com.

Speaker: If you would like to explore possibly joining our team or getting some additional coaching could be the missing ingredients in your solar success story.

Speaker: So that's it for today's episode.

Speaker: We're going to keep it short, but sweet.

Speaker: I got to hit the sack because I got deals to close tomorrow.

Speaker: So make sure to send this to someone that is struggling.

Speaker: And remember, consider changing your location.

Speaker: Go get on a blitz.

Speaker: Go try a different area.

Speaker: Consider changing the people you're surrounded with.

Speaker: Consider changing your mentor, getting a better coach, someone that can help you start having more success in solar.

Speaker: So I hope this helps.

Speaker: We got some super exciting episodes coming out.

Speaker: Once again, hit me up if you have questions or topic ideas, or if there's a specific guest you'd like to see.
