In April 2017, 22 year old Jacob Gray disappeared after his bicycle and camping trailer were found abandoned along Sol Duc Hot Springs Road in Olympic National Park, with his identity initially unknown and four unexplained arrows found nearby. After Jacob was identified, an extensive search was launched, but his family, particularly his father Randy, continued looking for him for more than a year. In August 2018, Jacob’s remains were discovered on a remote ridge above Hoh Lake, more than 15 miles from his abandoned bicycle, with hypothermia considered likely but the official cause of death remaining inconclusive. The mystery of why Jacob left his bicycle, how he reached the remote mountain ridge, and what happened to him remains unsolved.
