Giant Tentacles in a Haunted Castle

In 1996, ancient human remains discovered along the Columbia River in Kennewick, Washington sparked one of the most controversial archaeological cases in U.S. history. Scientists argued the 9,000-year-old skeleton could rewrite theories about the first Americans, while Native American tribes insisted the Ancient One was their ancestor and should be returned for burial. What followed was decades of legal battles, scientific study, and debate over whether science or tribal oral tradition should decide the fate of the remains. In 2017, DNA evidence confirmed the Ancient One’s connection to modern Native American tribes, and he was finally returned and respectfully reburied according to tribal tradition.

The Kennewick Man: The Ancient One

It is the winter of 1910, and travelers are attempting to cross what we now know as Stevens Pass. At the time, the only way to move somewhat safely through the mountains, especially in winter, was by train. One such group is forced to stop when a brutal storm sets in… and then the unthinkable happens. The deadliest avalanche in the region comes crashing down on the stranded travelers, plunging the night into chaos, and just days later, a second avalanche strikes a few miles north in Canada, as if the mountains themselves aren’t finished yet.

The Flames of Pang

The Two Saddles Treasure (also known as the Trinidad Treasure) is one of Washington State’s most enduring lost-gold legends. In 1876, the Welch family returned from months of successful gold prospecting in Canada, reportedly carrying an enormous fortune in gold. Fearing theft while traveling through Central Washington, the family is believed to have buried the treasure somewhere along their route. Despite decades of searching, shifting stories, and modern obstacles, including areas later flooded by dam construction, the gold has never been found. Whether fact, folklore, or a blend of both, the Two Saddles Treasure remains a tantalizing mystery of the Old West.
