Welcome to Chattsunami.
00:00:16
Speaker
Hello everybody and welcome to another episode of Chatsunami. My name's Satsunami and joining me is none other than the one and only champion of Epic Comic Con, for legal reasons, that's a half joke, is other than the one and only Martin McAllister. Martin, welcome back.
00:00:35
Speaker
Thank you, thank you. Love is beyond. It is actually a fan frontier wrestling belt, but sadly I am not the hold of it right now, so... i am not a jack but i know you mean to sp it but no i'm glad to be here i'm glad to be chat mut which is off the back for big weekend are you Not too bad. Honestly, recovering from last weekend there. And by last weekend, I mean a couple of days ago. Oh, what a weekend it was, wasn't it? It was so mobbed, it was so busy. i had to go for a long walk today just to...
00:01:03
Speaker
declutter myself. I was like, yeah, just stayed out into the ocean, you know, with that look of melancholy, like, ah, Epic Comic Con is over. What do I do next?

Epic Comic Con Glasgow Experience

00:01:13
Speaker
ah But yeah, as you said, we have just come off of going to Epic Comic Con, which was a full-on weekend at the Glasgow SSE, and ah was hosted by Fan Frontiers. Honestly, it is probably one of the busiest cons I think I've been to so far, which I know sounds absolutely wild considering the amount of cons we've been to in the past, doesn't it? Oh yeah, yeah, definitely. Honestly, we got up to so much, didn't we? Yeah, they're probably like just a busy, busy con this time. And just you talking about going away and walking on the beach, I kind did the same today. I needed a lot of time to come down from the weekend. there was phenomena I mean, I have to say, the thing that worried me most about this particular con, and it's something that I was talking to you about non-stop, you're probably like, where's the block park?
00:02:01
Speaker
And, you know, I was talking to all the Pandalurians out there about it, and I even put out a lovely Chatsu Shorts episode about it, saying that I volunteered myself for the content creator scheme at Fan Frontiers, which, of course, you gave me a gentle nudge in that direction as well.

Fan Frontiers Content Creator Scheme

00:02:18
Speaker
You were like, hey, Satsu, do you see this? was going say, didn't volunteer, think there was voluntold.
00:02:23
Speaker
LAUGHTER I told you you were applying for it. You know, it's the usual thing where you recommend something to me and I'm like, yeah, yeah, I'll get around to And usually nine times out ten, it's like, oh, I'll get around to it really much later.
00:02:37
Speaker
This time you're like, no, get that filled out. Every morning I woke up and you're like, have you filled it out yet? Have you filled it out yet? And you know, I was, I was genuinely like, ah there's no way they'll pick up Chatsunami and say, yeah, come as a content creator. And then, you know, put it forward. Luckily, I got in. And honestly, it was such a blast. Not just because I got a free lanyard, which I have to say. was going to bring that up.
00:03:03
Speaker
but i've never seen one person go so mad with such a little power as you're wearing that lanyard. It was so cool, though. I mean, come on. I went around the con. If you saw a person in a chat tsunami hoodie, right, wearing a contract rate, lanyard, that was me.
00:03:18
Speaker
Everyone and everything. Yeah, I'm wearing it just now. You can't see it, but I'm wearing it. absolutely love that, I have to say. But again, I swear I didn't go mad with my lanyard. Give me free stuff, I'm a
00:03:39
Speaker
and i just want to point now out for any people aspiing to be ah content created or these kinds of things because obviously people go away anybody and they don't have to officially be a content creator for Fan Frontiers, but it was just so nice to actually be accepted by them and to say, oh yeah, if you want to come and promote our staff and whatnot in an official capacity, then you absolutely can. And it was, it was just such a great experience. I'll probably be hanging that lanyard on the

Venue Insights and Attractions

00:04:07
Speaker
wall now.
00:04:07
Speaker
but Like, you know, the old Letterman jackets. LAUGHTER Honestly, it was just such a great time going to the Glasgow SSE, which is, quite frankly, other than some other ones I've been to in the past, it is our usual haunt for Comic Cons, isn't it? Yeah, it's a pretty good venue, I think, overall for this kind of stuff.
00:04:26
Speaker
I've mentioned it as we get further on the podcast that we did we're going to drop into some live recordings, but I also had the privilege of working the event as event staff, sort of helping set up and tear down in the actual SSEC. is an incredible venue when you actually get inside it when empty it's really cool but it's just a bright venue and i can see why a lot of companies want to use it when you start at Benzines yeah it's great venue not just for convention but just kind of point a picture of people that don't know the venue so well it's got like a long hall that a lot of cosplayers will hang out in you can get different photos and then there's different areas around the back that aren't meant for this but have quite naturally become good photoshoot areas so you'll see a lot cosplayers taking photos and there's this wooded section at the back and this sort of shipping area shipping container area on the tour those things have become almost like a draw for the comic-con as well you know it's like almost a strange way of saying that but venues so good it's got these iconic photo spots that's actually helped bolster the comic-con don't if that quite makes sense but you see i'm getting at it's really a phenomenal venue No, it is absolutely massive because my girlfriend and I, we were at the Tutankhamun experience, which if you were there last weekend, you would have seen all the signs up saying come in for Tutankhamun. And there must have been a lot of confused cosplayers going, no, no, no, I'm here for Comic-Con. It's like... Hell tough, you're going to learn about ancient in Egypt. I went to that and that's at the far, far back of the SEC. It's a bit of the SEC that I really haven't ventured to, I'm going to be honest. When my partner and I got there, we were like, all right, okay, it'll be the same place as Comic-Con. All right, it's not Hall 4A, it must be 5. Okay, no, it's 3.
00:05:59
Speaker
Why is 3 so far away? You have to march all the way down and then we got there and that was a fantastic thing on its own. and But you don't really realise how massive the SSC is, which I know sounds ridiculous because see when you see it in the outset, you kind of think, yeah,
00:06:16
Speaker
Yeah.
00:06:25
Speaker
with a barselling comic she had the artist and you had the coplay area and of course last but at least you had the wrestling zone which absolutely fantastic something that you actually said to me on the day that really stuck out to me was that there's just so much going on at this con and don't get me wrong there's always been things going on in the past cons but I don't think I remember as much going on in the previous ones and I mean that in a good way it was very engaging wasn't it yeah think that's something that epiccon and fan frontier in general kind of promote themselves it's like they're really interactive conventions as opposed to don't know like there's different types of conventions and some of them are very equal you do the thing and you leave well this is like you could spend whole day i mean we spent two days there and i think i missed half the stuff that was going on it's a very hands-on very interactive comic-con it's quite different from some of the other ones been to you know there's all these props
00:07:17
Speaker
like getting for it was worth there's all the that it feels like a really superba place to be and the thing that i did a lot about isue Yeah.
00:07:41
Speaker
causeplay whether that's just engaging with the fandom and things but and it's something as well that i had to mentioned in the chatsoo shorts episode were running up to epic comicical where
00:07:54
Speaker
quiet areas as well. There was a drawing area at one point. I was like, okay, I can't draw for the life of me, but that is pretty damn cool that you can go there and just sit and draw. As I said, there was the artist bit, which probably was one of the busiest bits. I found myself kind zigzagging through crowds at that bit. I was like, oh my goodness, I need to get that 50th Sonic stuck out. things and beside that was where they did all of the guest speeches and guest spots like that one thing that i did think was great as well as see at the back where they had all the guests that was relatively and again i'm not saying this against any of the guests it was relatively empty in the sense that there was loads of room for them you know in past comic cons i don't know how you feel about this but you ever felt like you've gone to one with guests and it's just a big sneaking line that goes right through the comic Oh 100% it's difficult to organise these things but just you mentioned about the artist alley as well like that had like a big breakout area next to it as well so this is I think the biggest one they've ever done in terms like venue space. Yeah. I think they did really good job of keeping it busy but keeping space out too, get away from crowds too, get a chance to relax.

Notable Guests and Events

00:09:05
Speaker
Certainly, I didn't get to meet any of the guests this year, but in previous years can be quite nerve-wracking meeting certain people. the last thing I want to do is be surrounded and squished in queue. I mean, you're not wrong there. I actually think the last one I must admit that I was really nervous about meeting was the voice of Mario.
00:09:24
Speaker
and I think the only reason I was nervous, I thought, right, okay, I've canned myself. You know, I'm second in line. That's fine. And then two seconds later, it was with you and a couple other friends. You just appeared beside me. You're like, hey, Satsu, you're getting an autograph. And it's like, oh, no. ah Oh, terrifying.
00:09:43
Speaker
But, I mean, the guest list was absolutely stacked this year. You had Robert Carlyle, who was probably one of the headliners of this one. You had Ellen Thomas, who does Arcane and EastEnders, which I know you're a big EastEnders fan. Yeah, it's huge. but but You had the Heartstoppers duo, Jenny Walser and Toby Donovan, which I have to say, I was a wee bit cheeky. I was in the artist alley at the time, and i walked by while they were talking, and I was like, ooh, I wonder what they did. You know, you could pop your head in, but I think if they caught me, they would have been like, no, go, go, go. You had Luke Dale and Tom Mackay, who were voices in Kingdom Come 2, which reminds me that I need to finish my backlog before I even attempt that game.
00:10:24
Speaker
It does look good. You also had Gavin Mitchell from Still Game, Elsie Lovelock, who I was saying that to you in the day, that I was so surprised that Fan Frontiers and Epic Comic Con got her to guest because I was so used to listening to her music and things and YouTube and whatnot. And then it's like, oh, she's coming here today as a voice actor and everything. I was like, wow, that is really cool. She's like the busiest person on the planet as well. You see a list of roles and all the music she does the YouTube. She's just like, I don't understand how she had time to do this.
00:10:53
Speaker
Honest to goodness, see whenever a YouTuber or content creator does come to these ch Comic Cons as a guest, yeah, I think the same thing. I'm like, how did you fit this in? Have you got a lot of stuff scheduled to this?
00:11:07
Speaker
But yeah, on the same line as voice actors, we also had Connor McLeod, who plays Hazard in Overwatch. We had, and this is more in your purview, Martin, Harley Hudson, and the Gallus wrestling team, Mark Coffey, Wolfgang, and Joe Coffey, which, yeah, am I right in saying that you had a brief encounter with them? I have had a few brief encounters with them, but I'm quite friendly with Wolfgang. He's one of the head coaches Iron Girls gym where I train so that was like really cool to see him get a lot of love from both the live crowd which had arch I've obviously seen before like a Comic Con crowd as well was really cool I'm very lucky to be trained by him so I'm also quite pally with him but yeah getting to see other people recognize that super cool from like a fanboy point of view I guess. I'm still a mega fan of wrestling despite everything else. Yeah and the other guys from Galaxy Phenomena as well they all showed up at the wrestling as well over the weekend so that was really cool. And I have to say, touching on the wrestling, I'm not just saying this in case I anger, because Jim is listening, of course. The energy in the wrestling zone was absolutely electric. It was just so passionate in the crowd. Because I have to say, when I saw the seats fill up, and there was a couple of people kind of milling about for the first match and I think it was just because it was early in the day. I say early, but you know, it was around half twelve, but there was a few people, but by the end of the match, the whole hall had filled up. There were people surrounding the ring and everything. It was like, oh my god, this is absolutely in incredible. And something I did laugh at was just how passionate a lot of the fans were around the ring. you had people shouting out, you had people participating, kids losing their ass.
00:12:44
Speaker
um So, nines over people coming out. I'm pretty sure when you came out, of course, in your Team Rocket cosplay, and the first day, someone was yelling, oh, is that James from Team Rocket? And everything. Just right as we came someone directly across the edge just went, Team Rocket!
00:13:03
Speaker
I just love it, it was so cool. but I just love when see when you surprise people like that and they got off guard. That's like the best feeling of wrestling. like When a member the crowd is just so caught off guard they don't know what else to do but scream. It's like such a great time. Honestly, the first day of Epic Comic Con was just fantastic.
00:13:21
Speaker
Again, kind of shared your sentiment and don't get me wrong, you were way, way busier at this than I was. I had time to walk around and things, get some tea and yeah, just see what the vendors and things were doing. But it was honestly just so nice to see how passionate everybody was. And, you know, I've brought this up. in the summary that we recorded, and don't worry, we'll be playing that in a second, but how passionate everybody seemed to be for being there. There were so many cosplayers there that were just wanting to participate. There were so many fans, whether that was for wrestling, whether that was for
00:13:54
Speaker
And um honestly, it was just such a great atmosphere. The one thing I will say is I had some minor flashbacks. See, when I walked by the SpongeBob diorama, and don't get me wrong, I thought that was really, really cool.
00:14:08
Speaker
but I saw the guy in the diving suit, and my head immediately went back to when we filmed for Bioshock month, and I had to do a double take. i was like, that no, no, that's not a big daddy, is it? No, It is.
00:14:21
Speaker
but But yeah, without any further ado, will we have a listen to what we got up to on day one? Let's do it. Yeah, and as always, we will be right back after this. Hello everybody and welcome to Chatsunami. I am here on site at Epic Comic Con with the one, the only, Martin McAllister. Martin, welcome back.
00:14:40
Speaker
Oh, I'm thrilled to be back. It's been such a great day today here at Fan Frontier Epic Comic Con. I am thrilled to be here. I'm thrilled to be with you again. how are you? Not too shabby. Have to say, a little bit shattered, but okay. I would say it was an early rise, but I got here at 12 o'clock in the afternoon. Those roads were busy, okay? Those roads were busy.
00:15:00
Speaker
It's always one of those things, I always find, especially with Comic-Cons, you're mentally ready for it. The second you wake up, it's like a whole day activity. So even if you haven't got here, you're like, I am going to Comic-Con. Exactly. You're like, I've got time, I've got time. And then you're like, oh my god, do I have time?
00:15:14
Speaker
When I got here, text you to say, oh, what you up to? What you doing? You were getting ready, of course, for the fantastic Iron Girders wrestling show, which was fantastic. I'm not just saying that because pulling back the curtain here, we are literally sitting beside the ring and I don't want all the wrestlers to come out and beat me up. So that's good I can take my hand off your neck. you know that so good I mean, that is very, very true. For legal reasons, that is indeed a joke. But yeah, no, I made a beeline. Again, not because you forced me to. You denying us an awful lot. Was that good, Martin? Was that a good line read? So you were saying, oh, I'm checking out the first match, which was at half 12, I think. And then the other one was at half two. So made a beeline here.
00:15:57
Speaker
Watched them. Absolutely fantastic. Just in case you're looking on the Iron Girders website and you see someone in a chat to NamiHudu with a really pained face. That's probably me, because I was just like, oh my goodness.
00:16:09
Speaker
There was one, i can't even remember who it was, but it was one of the ones at the end. Somebody smacked the metal pole in the corner. You probably heard me in the background. If you filmed it and you hear someone go, oh, yeah, that was me. I was like, that must have. Wrestling's always one of those things that the closer you get to it, the more you realise, oh, that must have hurt a lot.
00:16:28
Speaker
But how do you feel after wrestling today yourself? Because you were wrestling at half two, you were of course building it up and people can't see it just now but you'll be able to see it on Fan Frontiers, Epic Comic Con, all the socials there that you are dressed as James from Team Rocket.
00:16:43
Speaker
You can't see that in audio only. No, it's been a brilliant day today. I'm getting to wrestle in front of a big crowd. mean We had a really nice crowd, really big crowd. Thrilled, but it's just part of the day. I was saying about, you're ready for the con. I love coming to these cons as a fan, so it's a blessing for me to get to wrestle at them. I just really enjoy it, and wrestling's one part of it, but yeah, we had a chance to explore. We walked around just the other wee bit. I've had a chance to go to other things. It's just been a fantastic day. This con is phenomenal, and I get to wrestle it. mean? It's such as a bonus on top. No, it's absolutely fantastic. Of course, you know, while you were wrestling, I mean, I did watch you wrestle. I just want to point out that after that, I checked out the apologies. I'm just looking at them dismantled the ring in the background. No, they're actually adding to it. i or the azio so yeah Is that the cage match for tomorrow? Maybe a ladder match. Ooh, I can't wait to see that. I will be coming back tomorrow, by the way. Yeah! But I mean, Epic Comic Con has just been absolutely fantastic today. was saying to you, while you were doing the wrestling stuff, I walked around and looked at the artist alley, the vendors alley, the comic alley. I'm pretty sure of saw of the Hulk at one point. Not a cosplay, just... statue of the hulk they've done amazing this year i really think the different shops and stuff they've done like a really good job with grouping like i know it's not stupid because it's short but it's in there like yeah it feels like little villages like yeah yeah different way this it's really really cool they've actually got street names for all the streets you see on the floor but it's just like a really fun little gimmick and like changes how you interact with it it's really cool honestly it's been so fantastic to see and i'm guessing most of the stalls will be back tomorrow Yeah, I can imagine it'd be a lot of work to take it all down and then be like, yeah, let's put it up tomorrow, why not? Yeah, but no, it's been absolutely fantastic. And of course, this is only day one of Epic Comic Con. Cannot wait to see what's in store for tomorrow. Of course, I'll get to see you wrestle earlier tomorrow. I'm at half-twelve, is that right? that's me. they Yeah, totally won't be bombing down the road. Ha ha ha!
00:18:30
Speaker
Although, by the time you listen to this, this will all be over. he will know if he made it or not already. Edit his note. He did. Edit his note. He didn't. You can cut one out there. Did he win? Well, I'll find out tomorrow. You'll find out tomorrow. For the listeners, you'll find out like five minutes. But yeah, is there anything you want to add to that to summarise? I've had a good day today, been really busy with Anguirus, so tomorrow I'm really looking forward to just doing some the interactive stuff. There's like Drawing, there's a Bouncy Castle, which I really want to go on. I want to meet some of the guests as well, like Ellen Thomas is here. She's a big one want to go meet. Big Arkane fan, and as you know, a big fan of British soaps. Of course. I was going to say, like, whoa, whoa. mean, Arkane's good, but come on, there's no EastEnders. There's no EastEnders, yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, it's like the reason why you prefer Coronation Street over Firefly. 100%. There's more episodes, it must be better. There's going to so many people listening to that saying, what? like, if you're a new listener, I apologise. No. But swear to goodness, it is a running joke. No, it's not. I just strongly held that belief.
00:19:28
Speaker
I have to say for legal reasons, you're just like off the chain. It's been a long day. Yeah, it's been a long day. Fantastic. So there's something we're looking forward to tomorrow. And then yeah, we get to wrestle again. and I've been working behind the scenes for Epic a wee bit. So getting to like build up and the turn in the Comic-Con has been really fun to see how all runs from behind the scenes. And it's made appreciate it that much more getting that opportunity. that's really been cool as well. What you up to tomorrow? I'm returning here. What would like to do when you're here? have you not seen yet? I'm returning to it. I'm looking. Well, I'll definitely be going round to the Vendor Valley and especially the artists area. I absolutely love going round. They are so passionate. Every single Comic-Con I go to, always make a beeline for, well, sorry, other than the wrestling, of course, but after the wrestling, after Martin Strong-armed me to the wrestling, yeah, then I make a second beeline.
00:20:13
Speaker
A bee squiggle if you will. But yeah, I'll go there and the amount of stickers that I bought. I actually made a very strange purchase I was showing you earlier and this will be in all the socials of course but I bought a pin for Big the Cat from Sonic the Hedgehog. It's no longer a meme. I think he's becoming part of the fan.
00:20:32
Speaker
Part of the joke, finally. Yeah, exactly. But the other one that I bought of course I don't even know why. It was like a sirens call when I saw it. It was a Cineworld stall, right? Huge shout to Cineworld. Please sponsor me for the love of goodness.
00:20:44
Speaker
but They're not going to listen to this, but if they do... I'm still laughing at Siren's call, like, luring you in the distance. It was! Because, speaking of Sonic, yeah, it was the popcorn bucket. yeah And ironically enough, we were just talking about this before we started recording, but...
00:21:00
Speaker
was when we went to see War of the Rahiram back in December and I remember that they were selling the popcorn buckets and I was like oh do I want to get it oh I don't know and then I didn't get it I kind of regretted it kind of had a bit of FOMO but i thought you know what it's fine I'm an adult I can cope with this as soon as I saw this again sirens call I'm I'm no shame at all for that. But I was like, right, okay, what am I going to see? And they were selling the popcorn buckets. And I was like, oh, right, okay. They were selling them for charity, which was absolutely fantastic. And the guy was like, oh, yeah, I'll be a tenner and everything. I was like, gimme. So I grabbed it. And then, of course, he was like, oh, it's going to be cash only. And, yeah, it was fate because I looked at my wallet. was like, yes.
00:21:40
Speaker
Would you like to play a little game? Yes, go for it. How much money are you going to spend tomorrow at the Comic-Con? And then we can cut in tomorrow's interview. um It's just like, him not bargain hunting, but you know, like, yeah like how much have you spent? So how much do you predict you're going spend? Oh, that's the sound of my wallet dropping clearly. My bank put a chain on me. Oh, sorry. That's my bank phoning me there.
00:22:06
Speaker
say probably definitely 20 30 i'm going to try and put a limit on it because there is so as i said there's some fantastic stuff i will be putting the pictures up on social media and things of what i bought today and you know shout out to anybody i can but yeah absolutely fantastic today as i said the vendors have been great the wrestlers especially have been great the artists everyone just fantastic shout out to all the cosplayers can i just say it it's amazing especially all the roomies out there You know, I've seen so many. i was just like, wow, okay, one, two, 20, 30, counting how much I'm spending tomorrow. But no, everyone seems to have had such a great time today. you know, it's been absolutely fantastic. And yeah, as I said, in about five minutes, I cannot wait for you to hear what we're up to tomorrow. So yeah. See you tomorrow. Yeah, see you tomorrow. Yeah, I have to say we packed quite a lot into the first day, he didn't we?
00:23:00
Speaker
Yeah, you're telling me. What did you do that night when you got home? Is it time to talk about it? oh yes. What, the siren call, you mean? Yeah, it's time to

Comic Con Exhaustion and Humorous Reflections

00:23:11
Speaker
talk about it. So, peeking behind the curtain here. I was editing that and I could not stop laughing at you just losing it. Is sirens calling? I was like, oh, yes. So as you heard, I got a Sonic the Hedgehog 3 popcorn bucket and I was driving to home and I texted my partner. I was like, do you want me to bring anything in? And I went to the shops. I went by the sweets and I thought I should buy some popcorn.
00:23:36
Speaker
I want to fill this up. I brought everything that I had to and then I brought but the popcorn and I was watching The Hobbit last night. So it was a long film there was a big bag of popcorn. But actually, would you believe, i went out for a walk last night. Actually, not last night, but the night before. i went out that night with my dog and paw juicer, as a player and I and was absolutely shut It reminds me of, and this is such a specific reference, but do you remember that scene in Doctor Who where he's like regenerating, David Tennant that is, sorry, and he's like stumbling through the snow and he's like slowly dying.
00:24:13
Speaker
That's how I felt, was just stumbling. And my girlfriend's like, oh, Satsu, you okay? And i'm like, is it time? I'm ready, I don't want to go. But you know, we walked, I came back, I collapsed in the heap. Pretty sure I fell asleep at one time.
00:24:29
Speaker
but the old man Yeah, I just drifted off. And then I was like, you know what? Round two, let's go. Went to bed, absolutely was shattered. And I feel bad for saying that, eh, because you were getting chucked to run the ring in the night. But also that my ticket was for online.
00:24:48
Speaker
So I have a bit of a cheek saying, oh God, I'm so tired, aren't I? And you're probably getting up at the crack of dawn, putting up a rest on me. But out of curiosity and flipping the back onto you, what did you get up to the night after? so as I mentioned, I was dressed as James on Saturday. So my job was to go home and and wash that out of my hair. My hair's actually survived. Both days will come up later, but my hair was purple. And both nights I managed to wash all the purple out then back to being blonde. And I was very, very, very, very nervous to do that.
00:25:20
Speaker
But yeah, I have kind of similar thing, except without the popcorn bucket. I just kind of went home. I know, rubbish really. it just kind of went home, ate, had wee panic, and I started trying to throw together cosplay for the next day. And yeah, ready to do it all again. And of course, day two, have to say, was a little bit calmer. Because this is the thing, and this is something you've told me as well, I think, in the past, that Saturday is always the thick of it day, isn't

First vs Second Day: A Comparison

00:25:44
Speaker
it? Yeah, it's definitely the ah is Yeah, it's always everyone wants to get there day one. They want to see their favourite guests and whatnot. They want to do the activities. a lot of teenagers on their Sugar Rush and cosplay. It's a bad one. You just see someone dressed up running by you and you're like, is that a Spongebob? It was absolutely... It was heaving, essentially, on the first day. But the second day, don't get me wrong, it was really, really busy. But it was a lot calmer, I felt. And I think that's probably because everyone's came on the first day, and then they thought, okay, we can do one day, and... so
00:26:17
Speaker
I have to say, think this is one of the few times that I've gone to both days in a Comic-Con. Because usually when I go, I've only been to the Saturday or the Sunday, but i've never been to both all of them. And I just thought, now I know how you feel. LAUGHTER was going to these. And yeah, it was once again, it was a fantastic experience. I went back to the wrestling zone where I saw quite possibly the weirdest thing ever.
00:26:42
Speaker
So I went over and I probably mentioned it in our summary of this day as well, but I went there and I knew you were doing the cosplay bout and one person came out as, I cannot remember the name and I am going to get absolutely beaten up by the ghost fandom, but the whoever the singer is in Ghost. Papa. Papa. Yeah, thank you. Dressed up as them. And as I said to you on the day, there is a member of the podcast group I'm in, the Podback Collective, of Marie. She has been trying to, i would say subtly, but there's nothing subtle about it, saying, listen to ghost or emails. And I keep going, yeah, again, like I was saying to you earlier, I keep going, yeah, yeah, sure, and I'll listen to it later.
00:27:24
Speaker
And then I thought, nah, I'm not. And then I'm sitting there as a content creator. Watching the wrestling, as far from ghosts as I thought I would be, and then all of a sudden, fantastic cosplay, by the way. But yeah, they came out and they were dressed up and I was like, oh my God, I cannot escape that. They came out and then you were number two. You came out as roommate How It's Done, was the song? Yeah. And yeah, everybody came out in different cosplays. And I have to say, this isn't the first time I've seen you in a cosplay bout. Were you not dressed up as Team Rocket in another one? was that... No, it was... I was Ash in that one.
00:28:00
Speaker
Because it was the voice actor of James, wasn't it, that was watching? Yeah, our friend Kat, Officer Jenny and two of other friends were also Team Rocket, so it was cool. The Xero Brutale dressed up Team Rocket. Yeah, I fought them off as Ash while the voice actor for James watched on. It was just a weirdness that will stay with me forever. What a well wonderful time.
00:28:21
Speaker
but Well, you're not wrong. How many people can say that? Yes, the voice of James watched me as I compete. Hopefully it does me. and Nobody, there just tunnel vision.
00:28:33
Speaker
If better anyone else can say it, then that's maybe worrying. Yeah. How many wrestling shows do you go to? Just this one. But yeah, the usual, and I'm not saying that as a disparaging remark to the cosplays because were great, but you know, you had Wednesday Addams, you had Deadpool, you know, those kinds of cosplays. When the announcer said, oh, it's going to be a weird match and everything, I thought, right. okay, he's got Deadpool, that's the weird one. And then it was like, yeah, the very, very end. They brought out the Undertaker of the Sea, aka Spongebob.
00:29:08
Speaker
Now, I saw Spongebob the day before, walking around and everything, and they had the big cutout that you could get your picture beside, and the big pineapple under the sea. When I saw Spongebob, I did not expect him to jump into the ring, throw off his square trousers, just A soup leg somebody. I was like, what is going here?
00:29:26
Speaker
But I'm actually quite impressed they managed to move so well in the soup. Oh, I know. They couldn't get in the ring through the ropes. had to go over the top. I had a front row seat to that. Can I just say, I've got the video of it just trying to climb in. I was like, oh my God, this is absolutely insane. Fantastic. Have you seen the video that's currently going viral on TikTok about Spongebob Epic Comic Con?
00:29:50
Speaker
Oh no. No. There's a video with 75,000 likes on TikTok and SpongeBob meeting Pyramid Head. It's so good. That is amazing. I'll send it to you right now. You know, I think I actually saw that Pyramid Head. Yeah, you all have done. What, nine foot tall? Whatever they are. Can I just say I didn't talk to them or anything.
00:30:10
Speaker
They can't, for obvious reasons. You know, I'm a Resident Evil person. and I'm not a Silent Hill person. No, but jokes aside, I was walking by yeah and, you wasn't eavesdropping. was walking by and they were talking to someone and they had the most gentle voice. I love that.
00:30:26
Speaker
It was just so weird, you know, seeing this amazing Pyramid Head cosplay and, you know, very ominous and living. And I'm like, oh, yeah, yeah, I'm taking that bus. I'm doing this. I'm doing that. i'm like, what?
00:30:38
Speaker
I love that you. On the flip side, though, you had SpongeBob with a very deep voice. Going, are you ready, kid? I was like, yeah. The kids lost their mind-seeing front and behind me. I had it in stereo. There was two wee boys right behind me, and they were going, yeah! And I was like, oh, man.
00:30:55
Speaker
What i will say is that match actually aged me about 30, 40 years, I would say. Not because of everything going on and the fact that you were amazing at hanging onto to the ropes. Can I just say it? Sorry, I liked it. That was my thing. No, that was amazing at hitting people. That was amazing at not losing. There was genuinely twice i was like, oh, right, you're going to fall out this. It's like, how are you hanging on? Just sheer willpower. It's like, no, the podcast needs the content.
00:31:24
Speaker
He just dived back in. You know, it got so chaotic that I genuinely, I said this to you off air, but I didn't realise you got knocked out. And I was like, oh, okay. But the bit that aged me several years was the two boys that were behind me, and, you know, they were talking away to the parents and to each other and cheering everybody on.
00:31:44
Speaker
And someone from A-Dead and Eddie came out, which is a cartoon from the ninety s early 2000s, and they brought out this plank of wood, which is called Plank. I recognise this, of course, being a 30-something-year-old man. The kids behind me knew this as a man with a stick. LAUGHTER He started yelling, hit him with the stick! And I was like, that's not a stick, that's a flank. Show him some respect. Well, it was between that and the person who came out dressed as a Power Ranger, and they said, and I kid you not, did not miss a beat, they turned around and said, oh look, it's the guy from Fortnite.
00:32:21
Speaker
ah Do you get that at lot of these wrestling shows? No, I'm usually not dressed up. I do think Fortnite's so big now, though. Half all media franchises are from Fortnite yet. Yeah. There's kids out there probably know Godzilla from Fortnite, which is a terrifying thought. Yeah, and these Air Jordans. Yeah, honestly, Pete. But yeah, after that was all over, I had to recuperate. I think I just went straight to the burger stand.
00:32:47
Speaker
And I just sat in silence behind a family who were absolutely, can just say, if they are listening to this fantastic cosplay, they were dressed up as the Simpson family. Yes.
00:32:58
Speaker
Simpsons cosplays, they're kind of twofold, aren't they? It's either going to be nightmare fuel or just in the middle, not a lot of effort. But this family just put in the effort. They had the hats for Bart's hair, Lisa's hair, that kind of thing. But anyway, as I was standing behind the Simpson family... I went around the stalls again. i got to meet some amazing artists as well. Totally not waving their business cards in front of the mic.

Exploring Artist Alley

00:33:24
Speaker
So before we go into the summary of day two, would you like to hear some of the lovely people that I met? I loved to First of all, we have Good Louse, who I bought a... And if you follow my socials, then you'll probably love this as a Sonic fan. It was a advert to join the Space Colony Ark, which is an amazing poster. And I posted it just like, oh look, I've got a new job opportunity. Can't wait to see how well this goes. So yeah, Good Louse on all social medias. Definitely go check them out. There was also Pastel Panda Bum. Again, amazing name. We have... Fox Leap or Fox Leap Studios. Absolutely fantastic. There was SuperCuteAwesomeStuff, who goes by the username, and I apologise if I mispronounce this, Perdita00, or at SuperCuteAwesomeStuff on Facebook. There was MinishCrafts,
00:34:16
Speaker
absolutely lovely people by the way and last but certainly not least there was crow cole actually there's one i missed and it's one that you brought up to me this person on social media goes by at lucas art and that's l-u-k-i-s underscore art and they were the ones that did the shadow akira t-shirts yes okay that was so cool i'm not gonna lie It was amazing. But honestly, there were so many amazing artists and I think my sticker reserves are fully stocked.
00:34:48
Speaker
I just need to buy a ridiculously large water bottle just to blast them all into. But no, absolutely fantastic artists. And if you did see me buy anything,
00:35:00
Speaker
from you and you know I haven't mentioned you then please feel free to reach out comment under this or let us know who you are or even if you do hear your name feel free to comment underneath and yeah just reach out advertise yourselves there were just so many fantastic artists but yeah that's where kind of lingered the most I'm gonna be honest the artist alley looking for new stickers before we go into our summary of day two was there anything else that you looked at any particular purchases by chance Oh, well, I did mention it on the summary for day two, so I'll save it for then, but I did make a couple of practices, but I will be making... and maybe I've picked up few business cards, so I'll be probably making a few more online on the next one. Yeah, can't wait for that. Will we just jump into it then? Let's do it. Okay.

Event Highlights and Reflections

00:35:42
Speaker
And without any further ado, here is day two. Hello everybody and welcome back to Epic Comic Con. Or well, rather, we're on site at Epic Comic Con, I should say. Which is a day for us, recording since. And for you, listening at home, it's probably about five minutes, ten minutes.
00:35:58
Speaker
Something we were joking about earlier. So, how are you doing, Martin? I am joined, of course, by Martin, as you cannot tell in an audio only. Sitting next to me in this really fancy room with you know super fancy snacks and five-star bedding. It's this is really fancy place that in. We're not sitting two plastic chairs and a coffee cart.
00:36:15
Speaker
ah Right beside the Iron Girters ring. yeah Shout out to Iron Girters, Jim. So, yeah, how have you been finding Comic-Con this weekend? Oh, it was amazing. Pretty much wrapping up the whole show now. think there's like an hour left, the doors closed and the whole thing. It's been an amazing weekend. What weekend. We got to wrestle today again today and got to just hang out and just see the Comic-Con a bit more, which is nice.
00:36:35
Speaker
I spent some money, as I was planning on doing. And, yeah, that's we're actually watching people back up but as we're chatting now. So it's sad to be the end of another big weekend. No, absolutely. It feels as if this weekend's just gone right in, hasn't it? Just in a flash. And that isn't like a geeky pun to say in a flash. You funny enough, i haven't seen any flash cosplayers. Oh yeah, that's they're too fast. Ah, true, true. Damn it, why didn't I think of that? But yeah, of course, earlier when I got here, I made another beeline straight to the wrestling zone, of course. And yeah I was watching Ewan cosplay as a Rumi, yeah which I have to say, absolutely fantastic.
00:37:13
Speaker
Thank you. I don't know how you braided your hair like that, but absolutely fantastic. was so. Yeah, the best part about it was all accessories. I had tons and tons of accessories and they all just fell off the second I got the ring. So was like, i need to do something like this. So we planned around it. Shout out to my wife because she actually had to resize the top and all that. And just, it was their dead, dead funny. So it it's worked really well. I'm still covering paint scars, so I need to kind of get them off now. But I'm going to be helping close up the convention after this. So I'm going to be doing it with paint all over me as roomie. So she's working a second job.
00:37:40
Speaker
K-pop idols are not enough. Paying off the delay of that Golden album. That was a K-pop Demon Hunter reference. Go watch it. Yeah, no, it's been absolutely fantastic because, as I said, I watched you. Suplex, Wedding's Day Adams, and The Person from Ghost.
00:37:55
Speaker
Am I right in saying that? Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's the thing of Ghost, yeah. Yeah, I'm going to say, and if Marie from the Podpack Collective is listening to this, shout out to her because she's been saying for the longest time, go listen to Ghost and things.
00:38:07
Speaker
ah feel as if that's a subtle way the universe is saying, go listen to it. Maybe time. Yeah. Because you're that way when you see a cosplay and you don't quite, it doesn't click. Yeah. And you're like, that looks like the person from Ghost.
00:38:18
Speaker
It's like, oh, It Fair dues. And the announcer, of course, said, oh, yeah, it's going to be a crazy one. And I mean, I've seen you do your cosplay bouts and things before. Sometimes they've been quite odd. Sorry, I'm just pointing. This is a visual only joke, but SpongeBob SquarePants just walked past. Yes, I was actually building up to that, and it terrifies me. But he's just gone by. speaking of SpongeBob...
00:38:41
Speaker
Because I was watching it and I've seen the other ones and you know, you've got your Deadpools and things, as I said, Wednesday Addams. Yeah, also, oh, there was Leela, of course, from Futurama. And they said it was going to be weird. I'm like, well, there's nothing too weird about this. And then all of a sudden, SpongeBob SquarePants came out. I kind of shrunk up in fear there when I saw SpongeBob go by because, spoilers, but they did one. Terrifying. trying to get him versus Mr. Blobby for next year, so we'll see. Oh, of course. We'll see what happens. You know, I'm just going to call it now, Mr. Blobby. Just be here. fight you. Just a cage match. Yeah, yeah, We could settle out at Comic-Con just a... I mean, you could. You could. It's like that scene out of Raimi's Spider-Man. We got you in here for three minutes. Three minutes of suplexes. was gonna say, is there anyone you're more terrified to be stuck in a cage with than Mr. Blobby for three minutes? No.
00:39:31
Speaker
think he must be up there. Yeah, no, Mr. Blobby is nightmare fuel. Was it you that was talking to me about Mr. Blobby the other day? I have no idea. I cannot remember. It sounds like me. In fact, it might have been Joey from the Game Club pod. Shout out to him. That was it. Pulling back the curtain gear. Right after Comic-Con yesterday, I went home, had my dinner, talked to my partner, and then I was like, oh God, I forgot that I'm supposed to be recording for... Resident Evil man shattered I pulled myself to the middle like oh welcome to Chad's and I mean let's go and yeah he was saying there was a mod where one of the characters Mr X like the big zombie that chases you through the game someone did a mod that they replaced him with Mr Blobby that was terrifying he was like you know oh that would be so funny wouldn't it and I was like no No, absolutely not Oh, terrifying But speaking of things that aren't terrifying Of course, we're sitting here by the ring Absolutely fantastic They had their ladder match as well Shout out to the new Fan Frontier For the Fans champion Robbie Cardwell Yeah, well done, fantastic And he only had to climb a ladder to get that belt So, yeah Turns out, as long as everyone else The other five people match don't stand up It's dead easy to do that I mean, that is true Climbing a ladder's never been easy I've just been practising at all But of course, it's been absolutely fantastic today. You know, not just the wrestling. I have to say that for legal reasons. And part of your contract has been a co-host for Chatsunami. But you know, there's been that. There's been fantastic artists that have returned today. The vendors as well. They've been absolutely fantastic. Huge shout out to them. And honestly, if you're listening to this episode and you go, oh, I recognize that voice. Then genuinely feel free to comment below and everything and let us know. Today's been fantastic. Got a chance to wander around, so I saw a few the stalls, and I've bought, as I'm currently cuddling, she can't be seen on the Bordy West. need to stop making a joke. Yeah. I'm currently cuddling a large ditto plushie. Yeah, yeah. Which has set me back a little bit money, but you know what? It's worth
00:41:22
Speaker
That's why you have to go back in the ring to tomorrow. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I have to pay off my debts so I can buy more plushies. But yeah. Honestly, it has been absolutely fantastic. As I said, seeing the wrestlers, the vendors, the artists, the cosplayers as well. And of course, if you want to go to the NYX Con, which I am totally not looking over Martin's shoulder to look at here, of course, run by Fan Frontiers again. The NYX one is Power Comic Con, which is on the 7th to the 8th of March, 2026. So save your pocket money for that one. It's going to be absolutely fantastic. I'm assuming it's still at the SEC. Yeah, SEC. Yeah, that's fine then, because if it's not, I'm going to have to edit this out. in ah
00:41:59
Speaker
I was like, I'm sorry, due to Chats and Ami jumping the gun, yeah, we're not going to be doing it at the SEC. It's like, oh gosh, darn it. But yeah, is there anything you want to say? I think you've wrapped up, summed up all nice. It's been a fantastic weekend. I'm looking forward to having a sit down. It's been a great weekend, but a tiring weekend. I was saying this to you half jokingly, you know, I've been walking around all day, barely sitting, but it's nothing compared to you getting thrown around in the ring. And you know, I'm going up to you going, oh, my back's sore. Oh, it's sore walking around. And and you're just hobbling over like, yes, I know.
00:42:30
Speaker
i Can't bend my knees. Yes, exactly. So, honestly, a huge shout-out Fan Frontiers and Epic Comic Con. Thank you so much for inviting me as a content creator.
00:42:40
Speaker
Honestly, it has been fantastic to have this experience and this lanyard, which I'm totally not holding up. Honestly, I've been posting pictures of it. I've been sending it to people going... I got a lanyard. It's like, no one cares.
00:42:53
Speaker
I care. But no, it's been absolutely fantastic. So a huge shout out to them and the crew involved, everybody. They have been absolutely fantastic running the con. They have done a swell job. I don't know why I said swell job. Because it is true. Yeah, they're very bad. British English. Yeah. Very quaint. Yes. This job has just been swell. Yeah, it's fantastic. So huge shout out. And yeah, in a couple of minutes you will of course hear us talking about Comic-Con again in this episode. So as always, thank you all so, so much for listening. Stay safe. Stay awesome. And most importantly, do you want to wrap it up? Stay hydrated. I thought you were going to say stay epic. I'm going so much better. Stay epic. You know I'm gonna keep both in. Oh, 100%. I would disappoint if you didn't. Again, I don't want to be cliche like, oh, it was full of laughter, full of joy, but honestly, I love a good Comic-Con and Epic Comic-Con just hit all the right spots, to be honest. How do you feel about it?
00:43:48
Speaker
Say, looking back on it after a whole weekend of wrestling and, yeah, recovering from purple hair dye. Yeah. Oh that was amazing. All weekend after we finished the interview also helped pack up the convention centre. had to dismantle a whole bunch of the props and we had to clear away tables and stuff and that was just a lot of fun. Obviously hard work, it still work but it's good laugh. Work doesn't feel like work when you're having him to take the Hulk's torso off of his legs and throw him in a lorry. It's...
00:44:13
Speaker
it's just surreal so yeah but looking back overall i think i say every year that i'm like oh this was the best one yet but this was the best one yet you know like every year i say it i feel like every year is something different happening this year was like i mentioned the biggest one ever but it didn't feel like they jumped the shark on it you know it it wasn't like it was too big it was like a really good size you mentioned earlier about tons of different vendors and stuff but lots of good spaces and lots of different things to do just i think it might be my favorite one we've ever done no i totally agree with that it definitely was a lot bigger and again it keeps surprising me how big the sec is because i think it was either last year or the year before.
00:44:48
Speaker
I can't remember which one it was, but there was one I remember coming into, and don't get me wrong, it was really big, but the hall right beside the entrance had something else going on, and it was like a wedding fair. And I always cackle at that, because I can imagine all these couples coming in being like, oh yes, I'm here for the wedding fair, my future husband or wife, we're coming in to see all these things, and there's just a bunch of cosplayers running back, being like, woohoo! Yeah, honestly. Which one's more fun? I'll let you just But no, in all seriousness, I completely agree with you. I think that they knocked out the park this year, and I can only say that I'm excited for what's going to be coming up next

Upcoming Fan Frontiers Events

00:45:28
Speaker
time. So next year, on the 7th to 8th of March, 2026, which seems ages away. it Time is a flat circle. so
00:45:38
Speaker
I am sure it'll come faster than you'll expect. We have Power Comic Con run by Fan Frontier. There's also Kaiju Con, which is the anime and manga con, which will be on the 16th of September, 2026. As far as I know, they're all at the Glasgow SEC.
00:45:56

So I'm very hopefully fingers Everything's crossed right now that I get the chance to. That was the one where I got to the day before I met Baby No Money at the convention center, but i didn't get to stay for the con. So this year, it's happening. I'm so excited.
00:46:58
Speaker
Hopefully I'll get there, Greg. That's I'm going to be like, yeah, I'm going to go. And I'll be like, no, I can't go. I'm recording that. But yeah, no jokes aside, it honestly such a fantastic company. And yeah, as a final closing and point, i just want to extend a huge thank you to everybody at Fan Frontier. Not only for, of course, inviting me to do the content creation stuff. but in general just for running an absolutely fantastic con for running an absolutely safe and inclusive one as well that isn't me just being funny being like oh yeah it was good and everything but the amount of groups that I saw the amount of families and things everything just melded together you could tell that people were having fun they were enjoying it they had their own spaces that they could go to if they were feeling overwhelmed and so yeah a huge shout out everyone involved the crew the security just Everyone did a fantastic job, but i also want to give a huge shout out to the artists, the cosplayers, the vendors, the wrestlers especially, all the comic artists, all the guests there.

Gratitude and Community Praise

00:48:06
Speaker
Yeah, before we wrap up, is there anything else you want to say to end the episode? don't think I can follow that. You absolutely know that I have nothing else to add. And of course, last but not least, thank you, Martin, for only putting on an amazing show, which you always do at the Iron Girder's Gym, but just coming along and recording all of this with me. Couldn't have done that without you. Literally couldn't have done that without you, because my impression of you is terrible. So I don't think people would have bought that, but no, thank you so much for coming along with me and seeing the sights of the con as well. My absolute pleasure. I just wanted to say how proud am of you to get this because it was a big job for you and it was super cool that you did it, so well done. And now I'll have to charge my social batteries for like a year. So yeah, I'll see you next year at Epic Home.
00:48:53
Speaker
ah No jokes aside, thank you. Honestly, that does mean the world to me. Thank you. Yeah, the before we wrap up, where can these amazing Pandalurians find your stuff? Well, looking for more of me, I am mainly active on Instagram and TikTok.
