Speaker: Welcome to Chatsanami, a Scottish variety podcast that discusses topics from gaming and films to anime in general en interest. Join me, your host, Satsanami, as well as the rest of our Chatsanami team for our takes on these very important pop culture topics. Sir, it's clearly a trap. I accept your fate! That three times in the film. Every time that general goes, don't do this one thing, he goes... Do you know what I'ma do? That's exact.

Speaker: No! it doesn't well she had the pointy teeth what was that about she looked like bilbo when he wants the ring back She turned into... I just want the lightsaber one more time. Parasite says, no, you will get back into your office and work. No, says the man in Zoom. yeah Trousers are for the working man.

Speaker: You're bursting into your hotel room. Honey, we need to go. Leave the kids. You can milk an audition. Oh

Speaker: That's the worst thing you've ever said on any of the episode episodes. If that sounds like your cup of tea, then you can check us out at our website, chattsanami .com, as well as all good podcast apps. As always, stay safe, stay awesome, and most importantly...

Speaker: Stay hydrated.

Speaker: Hello everybody and welcome to Chatsunami! My name's Chatsunami, and today I cannot believe we are here celebrating our first episode of Season 7! That's right, the only noteworthy thing about - What's that? That's not the only thing we're celebrating. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, of course, of course. I should mention the whole us reaching ,000 plays and... No, no, no, no. No, right? What the heck are we talking about today? But yeah, all joking aside, that's right. Once again, I was invited back to the wonderful Epic Comic Con as a content creator, hosted by the fantastic Fan Frontier. And honestly, I love being invited to these events because they are always fantastic. Earlier in the year, I attended their other events, PowerCon and KaijuCon, and while they were amazing in their own right, don't get me wrong, this year's epic went even further beyond with what they had to offer. From amazing guests, creative cosplays and excellent panels, there was so much to enjoy that day. Admittedly, it was absolutely heaving with congoers, especially on the Saturday, so if you saw me shimmy by you in the artist alley that day without looking, then I sincerely apologise. That being said, I genuinely can't believe how popular Epic Con seems to be getting every single year. I have to say, I always have a bit of a chuckle whenever I get nearer to the Glasgow SEC where the event is hosted, and of course there's tons of cosplayers waiting outside, from Master Chief and Colossus, to Poison Ivy and even a glammed -up Audrey 2 outfit, it'll never fail to amaze me the effort that everyone puts in. But once I made it into the venue, the atmosphere was buzzing. And what's even funnier, mind you, was something that the SEC has a somewhat habit for, where they'll have a completely unrelated convention going on next door. Last time at PowerCon, I'm pretty sure, it was a dance competition, and this time it was a networking conference. with a bunch of business people in immaculate suits and lanyards. Admittedly, I did spot a few taking photos with the statues set up for Epic Con in the hallways, which was just such a tonal whiplash, but honestly, I'm just glad they got to have fun too. Of course, once I was in, I managed to check out one of the hallmarks of a fan frontier Comic Con, that being the Iron Girders Wrestling Ring, who put on a hell of a show with their regularly scheduled championship matches, and then their Spider -Man themed cosplay rumble. a few hours later. But beyond that, we had panels from the guests there, and I have to admit, while I didn't get to all of them, there were certainly a few that I managed to catch here and there. One other thing that I have to point out was, while it was nice to see the droids of Scotland back again,

Speaker: Another addition that really took me by surprise was one of those Boston Dynamic robotic dogs doing tricks next to R2 -D2. A surprise to be sure, and in the words of my friends, slightly Black Mirror -esque. But after catching up with a few artists in Artist Alley, I began to explore the rest of the con. Just want to give out a particular shout out to artists like Grant p Blue Illustrations, Scribble Sketch School, Anemoneco, and Moon Cakey Art Cafe, who I got the chance to talk to and catch up with. Also to Tasty Tina's Cakes, who, may I just say, did an amazing triple chocolate chip cookie that got me through the day. But I know what you're thinking, Pandalorians. What else did we get up to? Well, one... don't I defer that question over to past Satsunami and Martin McAllister. Take it away, past me. Hello, Pandaludians, and welcome to the first recap of Epic Comic -Con. I am here absolutely shattered and or showing my age with Martin McAllister. Hello, it's lovely to be here. I am also shattered and or showing my age. I don't like you to make that joke I think today of all days we've both been busy we've both had a lot on it's time to relax but we've still got the jobs to do so let's get cracking yeah as always I was invited back for Fran Frontier's epic comic con which honestly it's usually great to be part of these particular conventions but the only thing is it seems to get busier every year because I got a message right I'm driving up and then I get to my undisclosed parking space in Glasgow because no one can take it for next time. If I lose that space, I'm going to have to keep driving. But anyway, I went in, I got a message from yourself, Martin, saying, oh, it's really, really busy just now. And I thought, ah, you're just, you know, winding me up. No, when I turned round, it was like a snake of people. And for context, I always message you that for the early bird tickets. oh That's when I message you. There wasn't even the full crowd wasn't in yet. I think about 6 ,000 people came through the doors today. Jeez, oh, because I got here, I think, around half ten -ish and even then I was like oh it's not that bad I turned around and I was like oh my god but you can definitely tell because the atmosphere is absolutely buzzing here it is jumping you are shuffling through artist alley and things it's the full Comic Con experience but how have you been enjoying it? Oh I've loved it this year there was a wee bit of like oh about the layout the new layout so it's been like spread between two halls and there's a concourse in between I wasn't too sure about this I've seen some cons do it really well some cons do it badly with the number of people and the atmosphere hearing the buzz that concourse has been like its own little hub of like yeah just people having a good time all the meets been there the cosplay meets the whole place has been buzzing yeah the atmosphere today has been fantastic i've had a great time i've wrestled today as peter b parker and then i also hosted a pub quiz i am actually working at these events i like you are and yeah it's been fantastic i think until right now we're recording this i think we saw each other for a grand total of 10 minutes during the day yeah it's quite funny because it's like if you see any official pictures of martin at the con look in the background and they'll probably just probably be me just lingering like Slenderman or something. Because as you said, there was the wrestling. There was the Spider -Man multiverse debut battle. There was the Iron Girders Championship wrestling. There has been all the fantastic guests, as you said, all the fantastic artists. A few of them I actually caught up with today, I have to say. And I think I'm at that stage now where I am getting to know the artists in Artist Alley. And I'm like, hey, how you doing? See you at the next one.

Speaker: Huge shout out to Grant Blue for that one. And so for also catching us on their promotional material as well. I got censored. because I was talking to him and then he went, oh, by the way, my husband caught, you know those videos where it's like, oh, find me at Comic Con and then this is where they are and everything. It's like we got caught at the very beginning of that video. And I always look at them thinking, oh man, the background, I never get caught on them. So trust us. Yeah, we couldn't be more in the foreground either. It's not like we're in the background. We are in the foreground of that video. like Literally the first minute or second, it's like, oh, that was a full chat. But no, as I said, it has been, again, sounding like a broken record, but it has been jumping, which I am so just... Again, Epic Con has always been, you know, really busy, but I feel as if every single year they get bigger and bigger and bigger. Because as you said, we are currently sitting in Hall 2 and they've split it between Hall 2, which is the wrestling, it's all the other vendors. We've got the Batmobile right behind us. We've got the, is it the Ecto -1 from Ghostbusters? Jeez, oh, the Loch Ness Ghostbuster would have had my head for that. But yeah, you know, we have all of that here. And then in Hall 3 as well, we've got the stage for all the amazing talks and things. We have, oh gosh, what else here? The Artist Alley, the vendors as well. Yeah, Cosplay Contest is on right now. We've also got the, to the right of me, I'm looking at them and just now, the Star Trek, forget the name of their actual organisation, but Star Trek's here. The 501st are here. As always, there's a robot here. Yeah, one of the Boston Dynamics dog robot robots I hear. Terrifying. Yeah, that really creeped me out. And I kind of looked at it and I thought, I wonder if I show my producer that, if she'll be able to do the same tricks. And then she'll probably look at me and put on the Olympics and go, well, can you do that? When was the last time you did a high jump? Touche. Can't Paul vote. Exactly. But no, you're completely right. In Hall 3, we've got all the guests, the speakers, the cosplayers. So many great props and photo opportunities as well this year. A favourite and a miss. as you I hadn't seen it until yesterday so I helped to bind the scenes I helped set up and then today when I got in and got to the hall and came across so I was quite distracted there by the woman from the Powerpuff Girls whose name I forget that's an incredible cosplay I come across the hall to get to the restaurant and who's sitting on the couch but Homer Simpson a model of Homer Simpson a statue for you to take photos with I didn't see him yesterday what a surprise that was for me yeah because you messaged me and you were like oh you're gonna lose your mind at this particular problem and I was like alright what's it gonna be here is it gonna be Sonic again you're like Well, yeah, they've got Sonic. It's the big game boy. We've got that. And I was looking, thinking, yeah, these are impressive. You know, it's really, really cool. But there's nothing like, oh, my God, it's Homer Simpson. And I think I've got, again, you know, I kind of panicked when I was going by because I was so busy. But I've got a shaky cam one second of me going, it's Homer Simpson. Maybe tomorrow. Maybe tomorrow when he's calmed down a bit, you might get a photo with him. Oh, exactly. Yeah. I mean, he's a popular man. He is. Long running. Exactly. But no, I mean, the statues are this year. I mean, you've got the Holy Trinity of the DC. universe you've got Batman Wonder Woman and Superman and as well you've got the Avengers right it has been absolutely incredible and honestly what a way to kick off season 7 the chat tsunami I cannot wait to come back tomorrow I can't wait to see what the rest of the con has in store it's going to be fantastic yep we have to sleep but yeah the listeners don't they you can just cut ahead and we'll be there so let's go because I'm excited woo Not gonna lie, after the full day that was day one, I returned promptly the next day after the dizzying highs of acing Martin's wrestling quiz at the con. And by acing it, I mean for legal reasons totally, just not pitting John Cena for every answer. Yeah. But my wounded pride aside, this time things were a little quieter in the morning, and I managed to get through the con and add a few more stickers to the collection, which of course you can see in its full glory over on Instagram. I even met a creator called Astro Cube, who does some amazing Sonic Adventure work, and picked myself up an E -102 Gamma Standee. While my face was probably stoic at the time, my inner Sonic fanboy was geeking out. I cannot emphasise that enough. Another shoutout as well, to A Pastry Shop for their amazing almond croissant bake, their lambus bread cheese scones, and of course their empire biscuits. Absolutely fantastic as always. But before I shout out the rest of the amazing vendors I met that day, let's find out what we got up to in day two. Once again, take it away past me. Day two of EpicCon. Once again, I'm joined by none other than the one and only Martin McAllister. Martin, how are you doing today? I am tired. I'm having a great time. I'm tired, Satu. It's too damn bad. I don't want to do a podcast today. No, I am happily tired. I have exhausted on the best type. I'm satisfied with my life. How are you?

Speaker: Yes, for legal reasons. Yes, there is a smile behind the audio. Yeah, I am. No, no, I am actually satisfied with where I am in life. This is the best way to be tired. Yeah, this isn't just chat tsunami propaganda. Yeah, no, glad to hear it. Well, glad to hear that you enjoyed today, not that you're utterly tired, because I know the feeling. I've been walking around myself, you know, going through the old usual haunts, checking out a couple of the talks and things. I saw you at a talk earlier, weren't you? I was. I went off to the Nando talk, the guy from What We Do In The Shadows, but also one of my favourite... shows from years and years ago was Phone Jacker. Oh, yeah. And he was the voices on the catches and that. So it was dead funny. He did a couple of impressions of that and just like talking about how the show was actually made. Yeah. Fascinating stuff. Really cool. I mean, I caught a wee bit of it when I was going by. I was like, oh, that's cool. But no, it's been an absolutely fantastic day. You've got the Iron Guarders wrestling. You've got all of the artists, Ali. I'm kind of having flashbacks because it's something that I didn't mention in yesterday's episode that you had done a wrestling quiz. Yep. Clearly, I got a 10 out of 10. that part A++ yeah but Martin rigged it so I couldn't win sadly please don't check the sheet the sheet's made it into the recycling you're fine I genuinely thought by now that I would have had enough osmosis that I would have known but it's like who's this guy I don't know The Rock if I do know what it reminds me of I've been trying to think of the Simpsons reference all day it was you know when Bart Lisa and Maggie go to love with Flanders and it's like they're doing the Bible quiz and he's like come on who's the character and he goes Jesus It's like, Jesus! That's what it reminds me of. It's like, come on, you know this guy. Hulk Hogan? Hulk Hogan? It was weird that you put Hulk Hogan down as the answer for every question. I mean, there was like one John Cena and a couple of rocks in there. I know this guy, Stone Cold Steve Austin. Does he wrestle anymore? We might never know. You would if you watched wrestling. Actually, most people actually do know. The Venn diagram's getting further and further away. Between chats and army listeners and wrestling fans. But yeah, what else did you get up to today? So obviously, yes, as you mentioned, I've been wrestling. I also finally got a bit of time to go around the stalls, so I kind of caught up for what you were doing yesterday. Ah. I had a good time. Didn't buy too much. Well, did you not buy too much or did you not buy too much? I'm not clarifying that. For the record, that was the airport. There was a vegan bakery here and I spent too much there. But yeah, so that's been today. It was nice to get around. I got some photos with the various props and stuff. And yeah, I finally got a chance to mosey. So my wife was in as well. Walked around the house. That was cool. And yeah, just taking it all in, man. It's been some buzz. You mentioned it yesterday, but same today. Great atmosphere. Really busy. Really good fun. Yeah, just fantastic. And today, as we're recording this, is in the other hall the final for the cosplay. Yeah. T3's taking place. So some of the cosplayers today have been unbelievable. This is like the finals in Scotland. Big prizes on the line and stuff. And yeah, so that's been unbelievable seeing some art. That's been my day today. What about yourself? No, honestly, I just want to reiterate that about the cosplayers. The cosplayers have been absolutely fantastic today. There's just like too many to list. There was all the Lord of the Rings ones. The person who was dressed as, is it Barad -Dur? You know, the big tower. The tower with the eye to all the people who don't know. There was somebody dressed up. Pad. It was like, you know Audrey 2 from Little Shop of Horrors? It was like the sparkly dress, that was really cool. There was a couple of Master Chiefs going around. The entire cast of Baldur's Gate, I walked past them. All of them. In terms of anime, there was a group of people from, I think it's an Oren Host Club or something. I did a double take because it's a relatively old anime. I was like, huh? You've got your amazing Digital Circus folk as well. A lot of them today, yeah. A lot of Freerun. Freerun? Freerun, yeah. I love that show and I can't pronounce her name. I love that show. Yeah, a lot of them. as well. No, but honestly, between seeing all the fantastic cosplayers, once again, going around the artist alley, picking up a few things. As I was saying to you, I was like, right, I spent a lot yesterday. I'm not going to spend a lot today. Anyway, I bought myself a print for Expedition 33 because, oh, I love that game so much. We really should talk about it more. Probably two episodes, wasn't it? Is there anything to be said for more Expedition 33? Check out season six of Chat Tsunami. No, I mean, about that, more stuff. Snickers, of course. Went round to the bakeries. I think it was A pastry that I went to. Oh, that's the vegan one? Yeah. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Sorry, again, virtual podcast. We're pointing over there. Is that the one with the limbus bread? Yes. Yeah, that's the one I went to today because I saw it yesterday. Ah, you ate vegan. No! My powers. But no jokes aside, yeah, no, it's been absolutely fantastic seeing all of those stalls. And I did get an Empire biscuit from there, which, yes, I will be munching on the way home. Yesterday, it was, I can't remember where it was from. It's like Tasty Tina or Tina's Bake, something like that. Absolutely fantastic cookie. I was munching that at every red light. Get your hands back on the wheel. Never. But yeah, just the usual, going round all the artist alley. Huge shout out to the artists that I've spoke about today. You'll probably hear your name in the pre -recorded section. When I have the list. Yes, I will be writing that up tonight. But you'll be listening to it earlier. But yeah, no, it was fantastic. Again, catching up with them. into them because they were walking around and everything and it's just really cool and again I said it yesterday but it's just cool going around and people actually going oh hey Jackson I mean it's like oh hey how you doing what how you doing but no as I said again you've got the it's not retro gaming area but you know the kind of no no call it what it is is it retro I mean it's all the like arcade just because we're old doesn't mean it's not retro not me recovering after sitting on a bench like a Red Dead character being like I could see yes the Xbox 360s a retro console, I'm sorry. Good times. Good times. Yeah, but honestly, EpicCon has been absolutely fantastic. The only thing I do miss, and this is kind of the last point, but the only thing I do miss is, remember yesterday when there was all the businessmen dressed up for a completely different con? Yeah. Some we didn't mention in yesterday's roundup, but it was like, you had all the people going to a networking convention, and they had the business suits in the lanyard, and it's like, I don't think those guys are going to EpicCon somehow. I think they were just as baffled by everything, wasn't it? That was so cool. But yeah, is there anything that you want to say wrapping up? We do have a bit of an announcement. Well, an announcement of an announcement because I don't know how much detail we can currently give. So future Satsu, block all of this out and play one minute long sensor noise now.

Speaker: Bit of an announcement, so we don't have the exact details yet, but we are back for KoyoCon, which is a fan frontier around con. We, as in the Chats and Out podcast, are going to be back in October and we're doing something at the convention officially. We are on the official stages. We're doing something. What that is, we'll have to tell you later, but it's in the works just now. Don't want to say too much because I don't know what kind of... I don't know what kind of agreement we have and I don't want to blow it. All I'll say is there'll be stickers. That's all. There always is with me. That doesn't change. That doesn't narrow it down. But yeah, we are doing stuff at the convention, so we're very excited for that. So this is the last time that you don't have a job at the convention, apart from consecration. You're going to be helping out, we're going to be doing stuff on the stages. Do I get a fancy staff lanyard or something? maybe no probably not probably not but yeah we'll throw you in a bit more detail does out as it gets closer but very excited for that so is that the 24th of October you know the Simpsons bit where they put the mugs over their mouth yes it's the 23rd 24th 25th just cut in whatever one's right please you know me I'm just going to play I know you are don't know why I'm asking for this raw audio keeping it real But no, honestly, definitely check us out at Coyote Con. But of course, our next con together will be the Highland Realms on the 17th. Oh my goodness. Honestly, see, having three cons back to back, I am so used to having them spaced out because, you know, I do the work for the Fan Frontier stuff. But yeah, it's going to be interesting having three in a row. Yeah, and there's so much to get into for it. I know we've done interviews for it and stuff, but we need to get together and actually talk about what we we're doing. Yeah, absolutely. right now. Absolutely not, no. Let's get one thing done at a time. EpicCon was fantastic. I cannot wait for KoyoCon. I've said all I have to say. I have to help pack this con away. I still have a five -hour shift to do. That's it. How did you find the con? Any final thoughts? Well, as a summary, because, yeah, I'm watching you twitch. I started this episode about six foot tall in this chair. I've slouched. So... far I am now lengthways. You're getting slowly more honours on Epic Con, as always, is absolutely fantastic. Fan Frontier, honestly, should be proud of Yeah, knocked out the park. Again, they always do a good show. They always do a good con, whether that's this, Koyo Con, Kaiju Con, Power Con as well. All of the cons, they honestly do an absolutely fantastic job. So yeah, definitely check out the website for thefans .uk. if you want any future information about the cons. And yeah, I've enjoyed myself, but much like yourself, Martin, I will be going home. I will be going horizontal because I'm not a young man anymore. and I'll just be letting the demons escape me.

Speaker: Because it is. It is a great day, but I'm not as young as I used to be walking around. This is Satsunami, we're a millennial podcast. What, Simpsons references? I didn't tip you off, I mean. If you understand the Simpsons references, go get your back checked. I mean, between that and me bringing up Hulk Hogan and The Rock.

Speaker: Anyway, yeah, in summary, go check out EpicCon and, yeah, check out the future cons. Anyway, this has been Chatsanami and Martin McAllister. See you in the next one. Bye. So, funny enough, after Martin and I recorded that, we made our final walk around the con, where someone yelled out excitedly that they recognised my hoodie. Huge shoutout, by the way, to Camerice, and I hope I'm pronouncing that right. If not, then you have a free pass to come up to me in the next con we're both at and say, nope, this is how you pronounce it, but he was not only cosplaying one of the coolest Colossus cosplays there, but... for genuinely taking me aback by how nice the interaction was. Mind you, I you think from anybody else's point of view, I must have looked really confused, because genuinely, that is the first time that has ever happened, and it almost felt surreal. Heck, even Martin was celebrating the fact I had been recognised out in the wild, which, as I said, never usually happens as an audio -only podcast. I've said it before, but one of my favourite parts of being a content creator at these cons isn't the shiny lanyard, although... Trust me, it's a lovely bonus. But it's being able to meet so many talented people, from the artists and vendors who pour their hearts onto into their creations, to the cosplayers and performers. And I just want to shout out a few of them now because they absolutely but we deserve the recognition. Here's to Grant Blue Illustrations, Anemone Co, Mooncakey Art Cafe, Scribble Sketch Schoo, Nova Lion, Kaiji, HTTPS Charlotte, Reishi, Angel Kitty Crafts, Le Blanco Art, Zombie Bull, Tasty Tina's Treats, A Pastry Shop, Drawing With Specs, Geeky Ninja, John Turner and last but certainly not least, Astro Cube.

Speaker: And if there's any names I have missed off that list and I was talking to you that day, please feel free to reach out and let me know, or comment in under one of the posts to give yourself a shoutout because, honestly, you deserve it. Most importantly though, I want to give a huge shoutout as well to Fan Frontier of themselves, who have always invited me back to be a creator for them, and every time it has been a fantastic experience. The crew especially are fantastic and always do a brilliant job here. I've loved... every moment. And to be honest, it's been an amazing experience of pushing myself further to become the best podcaster I can possibly be.

Speaker: And with that, Epic Comic Con 2026 has come to an end. And unfortunately, I can't go into hibernation until the next one. But you know what else is coming up. On the 17th of October, I'll be heading to the city of Inverness for a special inaugural Highland Realms Comic Con with none other than Martin McAllister, as well as a few familiar faces. And if you want more information on that appearance, then definitely look out for our episode next week, because we'll be talking to none other than the founders of Highland Realms. But if you thought... my Comic -Con work was over, then think again, because Martin and I will also be back at Fan Frontiers KoyoCon at the Glasgow SSE on the 24th of October, funny enough one week after Highland Realms. While we do have some special things planned for that con, I guess the only way you're going to find out what's going on is by coming along. But as always Pandalorians, thank you all so much for supporting the show over the years, it has been an absolute blast. Here's to the start of one incredible Season 7. But if you would like to listen to more of our episodes, as well as the rest of our Comic -Con shenanigans, then you can definitely check out our website, chatsanami .com, as well as all good podcast apps. A huge shout -out to our Pandalorian patrons, Robotic Battle Toaster, Ghost Day, and Cryptic1991. Thank you so much for supporting the show. And if you would like early access to episodes, as well as a whole plethora of content, then check out our Patreon page at patreon .com forward slash chatsanami. And And between you and I, I have a feeling this season is going to be bigger and better than the last few. Also keep an eye out for the month of November because we're going to be talking about a topic that involves a certain amount of hills of the silent variety that I guess you're going to have to find out next month. But as always, stay safe, stay awesome, and most importantly, stay hydrated.
