Transcript

Speaker: Hello and welcome to Wild Theories.

Speaker: I'm your host, Alex.

Speaker: And I'm Joe, also your host.

Speaker: For the uninitiated, Wild Theories tows the line between somewhat informational and somewhat game show.

Speaker: The concept is actually pretty simple.

Speaker: Each episode focuses on a specific subject where each host will bring forth an interesting story or theory relating to that subject.

Speaker: Each episode will also feature a guest whose job it is to decide at the end of the day which one of us supplied the most entertaining food of thought.

Speaker: the winner will get to decide the topic for the next episode today we're talking about like flat shapes of the earth yeah earth and to help us discuss this we have our friend kim hello welcome kim thank you so so so uh so uh the traditional thing for us to do is to roll a d20 which is oh i didn't bring one a 20-sided dice

Speaker: From D&D?

Speaker: Yes.

Speaker: And this is how we're going to decide who goes first today.

Speaker: Because we're massive nerds.

Speaker: Exactly.

Speaker: I can't, I can't, I just, yeah, I've got nothing to say on that one.

Speaker: Five.

Speaker: Come on, get another natural 20.

Speaker: Eight.

Speaker: Looks like you go first again.

Speaker: Oh, shit.

Speaker: It's kind of almost a punishment, really, when you roll high.

Speaker: Maybe we should reverse it, the lowest number goes first.

Speaker: Yeah, right.

Speaker: You got so excited then.

Speaker: Yeah, I was like, yeah, I won!

Speaker: I won, did I win?

Speaker: A sad feeling.

Speaker: Oh, no.

Speaker: Damn it.

Speaker: Okay, so...

Speaker: Yeah, I've done a very interesting theory.

Speaker: I didn't do the one you both thought I was going to do, which was the turtle one.

Speaker: Before we actually get into that, for anyone who's actually watching on video, you might be wondering where we are.

Speaker: We're actually at work.

Speaker: All three of us work in a little cinema in a town that...

Speaker: we live in.

Speaker: We live in the cinema.

Speaker: We're actually in one of the screens at the moment.

Speaker: This screen's my home.

Speaker: Just an easy place for us to record for all three of us.

Speaker: Sorry, go on.

Speaker: Yeah, how dare you interrupt me.

Speaker: Before you get started... Okay, again.

Speaker: So I didn't do... How dare you!

Speaker: I didn't do the turtle theory, as you- What was I gonna do?

Speaker: The turtle theory.

Speaker: Yeah, you know, the theory where apparently the Earth's on the back of a turtle and whatnot.

Speaker: I don't know.

Speaker: I didn't do that one.

Speaker: I'm not the one person that's listening that's very disappointed that you didn't do your turtle theory.

Speaker: You shouldn't have even thought it up.

Speaker: Future me is so disappointed.

Speaker: You shouldn't have pretended it didn't exist.

Speaker: Oh, I should have not.

Speaker: I did- I instead decided to do the hollow Earth theory.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: That one.

Speaker: That bunch of cookies.

Speaker: So I found some interesting facts about it.

Speaker: So the theory of the Earth being hollow was actually first proposed in 1692 by Edmund Galley, an English astronomer.

Speaker: Bet you didn't know that.

Speaker: Pretty cool.

Speaker: No, I didn't know that.

Speaker: Well, there you go.

Speaker: It's been around a long time.

Speaker: It has.

Speaker: I found that quite surprising.

Speaker: Long before King Kong.

Speaker: Long before Joe Rogan.

Speaker: Yes.

Speaker: So we say this Edmund guy is basically the OG Joe Rogan.

Speaker: Yeah, pretty much.

Speaker: Or is he more like Alex Jones level?

Speaker: I see.

Speaker: I didn't... I feel like... Alright.

Speaker: Who's worse?

Speaker: Alex Jones or...?

Speaker: Definitely Alex Jones.

Speaker: Okay, so this one would probably be Alex Jones because another guy was... So after it was kind of first proposed, it kind of just sat around, you know.

Speaker: There was a few theories.

Speaker: What really kick-started it was Owen... How do you pronounce that last name?

Speaker: Egton?

Speaker: Egton?

Speaker: Yes, that's name.

Speaker: Book, The Hollow, or Hollow, it kind of kickstarted a lot of theories.

Speaker: I think it was 18-something or another, 1800s, late 1800s, he proposed the theory, and it kind of really kickstarted a lot of different theories.

Speaker: And as you know, the real theory is that it's Hollow and all the lizard people live down there, you know, like Mark Zuckerberg, Tom Cruise, all that, you know.

Speaker: Wait, so is this a legit thing that they believe that other people lived in?

Speaker: It's like the film, isn't it?

Speaker: The centre of the earth and stuff like that.

Speaker: And then they go down and there's another world.

Speaker: I'm guessing that's what.

Speaker: Yeah, kind of like that.

Speaker: So there's loads of proposed theories, obviously some being that that's where the dinosaurs went.

Speaker: Because apparently an asteroid's not good enough.

Speaker: So they're like, you know what, we're going to run a sequel trilogy down below.

Speaker: This world sucks.

Speaker: Let's go to the next one.

Speaker: So what do you think?

Speaker: They found a cave.

Speaker: So the rumour is that the entrance to, I guess, this underneath land is in the North Pole.

Speaker: So it's in the North Pole.

Speaker: That's where the entrance is, apparently.

Speaker: And underneath, there's multiple different theories.

Speaker: One of them is the dinosaurs down there.

Speaker: So that's where all the little dino guys are chilling out, you know, vibing.

Speaker: eating each other and doing whatnot.

Speaker: Another one is obviously lizard people, which is a bit more on the extreme side.

Speaker: But surprisingly, it has a lot of traction because... Yeah, I have no explanation for that.

Speaker: It for some reason has a lot of traction with, obviously, like, Scientology.

Speaker: Aren't those guys that believe... Lizard people, aren't they, Richard Lee?

Speaker: I think I'm getting them a bit confused.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Scientology people don't believe it.

Speaker: Apologies to any Scientologists.

Speaker: I don't.

Speaker: It's Aliens, isn't it?

Speaker: Oh, yeah, Aliens, yeah.

Speaker: Yeah, I'm not too sure on Scientology.

Speaker: We'll have to do an episode about that.

Speaker: For the record, I don't apologise to the Scientology people.

Speaker: So can I ask a question?

Speaker: Yes.

Speaker: Fuck you, Tom Cruise.

Speaker: Yeah, fuck you.

Speaker: So in 1662?

Speaker: No, 92.

Speaker: 1692.

Speaker: 1692.

Speaker: How did this guy...

Speaker: know about this.

Speaker: See, I'm not too sure, because what I find quite hilarious is that he's an English astronomer.

Speaker: So he's looking at stars and shit and then goes, oh, you know what?

Speaker: Hollow Earth.

Speaker: Any evidence?

Speaker: Not that I found, no.

Speaker: No, but not what you found, though.

Speaker: Is there evidence?

Speaker: Is there, like, a cave entrance?

Speaker: See, a guy in 2007 actually thought, you know what, I'm going to go to the North Pole and try to find it.

Speaker: He didn't.

Speaker: Um...

Speaker: yeah so they believe the entrance is at the north bowl yeah so like all the all the really like i guess most of them kind of say yeah you sure there's a people's and not else does that mean that yeah santa and the elves could just be you know what that's actually a good point maybe very new theory god damn

Speaker: They're chilling down there with the dinosaurs.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: And then once a year they pop their head above to give us presents.

Speaker: So equally, the dinosaurs have advanced down below and they have their own society.

Speaker: And what happens on Christmas, we just trade gifts.

Speaker: So we get their toys, they get us.

Speaker: So is Santa actually a dinosaur with a beard?

Speaker: Yeah, he's a little T-Rex.

Speaker: Yeah, he's a lizard person.

Speaker: He's evolved.

Speaker: He's a T-Rex, man.

Speaker: Little tiny arms.

Speaker: That's why he's the elves.

Speaker: I thought reptilian's supposed to be evil.

Speaker: I mean, not necessarily.

Speaker: So are we just being racist against reptilians this entire time?

Speaker: I guess so, yeah.

Speaker: All racist.

Speaker: It's bound to happen at some point.

Speaker: But no, there's other theories as well.

Speaker: So another one of the prominent ones is that's where ancient alien life is.

Speaker: So like before we came around humans, there was kind of aliens.

Speaker: And then now they're underneath the earth and there's a whole kind of ancient alien civilization that may or may not still be around.

Speaker: Maybe there, maybe not.

Speaker: Kind of has some ties.

Speaker: So like, you know, the main one, you know, the Great Pyramids in Egypt.

Speaker: And obviously Antarctica as well has got some link to that.

Speaker: So is there... There's no real evidence for any of this, you know?

Speaker: Like, why did this Edmund guy think, yeah, this sounds like a plausible idea?

Speaker: You know, if only I had a time machine, I would go back and ask.

Speaker: Because I'm not sure what he was on.

Speaker: I do, sorry to interrupt, but I do feel like this is a movie.

Speaker: Well, us.

Speaker: No, the whole plot thing is such center of the earth.

Speaker: It does have a lot of movie potential.

Speaker: It has been used.

Speaker: Probably most famously, I think, in Godzilla vs. Kong, not that long ago.

Speaker: That would be the most recent.

Speaker: They had the hollow earth theory was used as part of the plot.

Speaker: And that kind of linked along with, like, dinosaurs, didn't it?

Speaker: Well, I never watched it, but I think Kong was living inside the Earth, and then when Godzilla starts sort of roaming on the top, he's like, nah, nah, nah, nah.

Speaker: It's my job.

Speaker: And he starts climbing up.

Speaker: So what it was is, so I remember watching it.

Speaker: I remember a little bit of it.

Speaker: So the story was, so yeah, Kong and his band of apes, little monkey tribe, was living down there.

Speaker: They were doing their thing.

Speaker: And then, yeah, Godzilla kind of came up and was hunting down.

Speaker: And then he's the last one.

Speaker: But his home's down there.

Speaker: Ah.

Speaker: So kind of like ancient life, I guess, would be the ancient alien life.

Speaker: Who knows?

Speaker: Maybe King Kong is real and he's secretly down there chilling out being a monkey man.

Speaker: You know what?

Speaker: Actually, I was...

Speaker: watching a little video the other day about this place and I can't remember what it's called, but it's in Romania, right?

Speaker: But they discovered this cave that had been sealed off the rest of the world millions of years.

Speaker: And when they got it, you can't just go there, but like they study it because there's actually life in there that just doesn't exist anywhere else.

Speaker: It's evolved specifically

Speaker: oh that area so you've got like insects that are um completely sort of see-through stuff like that i guess you've seen in the dark in it yeah there's all sorts of like the things with no eyes yeah like they're blind and they're not yeah like and and you don't find these creatures anywhere else on earth it just becomes a little like pocket environment

Speaker: It's like an ecosystem, isn't it?

Speaker: Romania is a weird place, isn't it?

Speaker: It's all over the world, though.

Speaker: So that's kind of like the idea of this hollow earth theory, but on a really, really, really small scale.

Speaker: They're just by themselves.

Speaker: But I suppose you could say, if you really wanted to, that that is some form of evidence that something like that

Speaker: Maybe exists, but the idea of it looking and feeling just like this earth, no.

Speaker: Like, it would be a very dark, subterranean place.

Speaker: It would be a bit shit, wouldn't it?

Speaker: Yeah, I mean, unless you create, like, a dwarven society or something.

Speaker: Yeah, but there'd be no light, wouldn't there?

Speaker: How are plants going to grow?

Speaker: Um... Glowing mushrooms.

Speaker: Yes.

Speaker: I love mushrooms.

Speaker: I've got a bit of fluff right here.

Speaker: Have I?

Speaker: I was trying to tell him without actually saying it.

Speaker: I tried to get it off.

Speaker: So with this hollow earth, how do you explain volcanoes and lava?

Speaker: That's a very good point.

Speaker: And you know what?

Speaker: They just kind of exist.

Speaker: Godzilla's vomit.

Speaker: He's got the shits.

Speaker: See, that's the one thing I love about it.

Speaker: It's like, oh, the Hollow Earth, you know.

Speaker: But then it's like, yeah, but what about all the magma?

Speaker: Like the mantle of the Earth's core and shit like that.

Speaker: So do you think there is like a center and then Hollow Earth is like around that center?

Speaker: I just, I don't believe in it, to be honest with you.

Speaker: I just thought it was pretty interesting.

Speaker: like you know it could be it could be alien lives but like if right if there was going to be it would have to exist in the magma because obviously you got the earth's crust then you got the magma and then you got like the outer core inner core yeah i mean from what i remember reading about the hollow earth area i don't i i think

Speaker: that's inside this Perth is very similar to this.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: So I suppose they must... Something that I'm going to go into with my theory is this idea that space doesn't really exist, but it's more like a...

Speaker: It's more like a barrier that we see above us.

Speaker: So perhaps it's a similar thing with the Hollow Earth theory.

Speaker: So what you're seeing is not like infinite space, it's just a small space.

Speaker: Quick question.

Speaker: What about the astronauts?

Speaker: It's all fake.

Speaker: And the moon.

Speaker: The moon landing was faked!

Speaker: What about the International Space Station?

Speaker: It's not real.

Speaker: It's on Earth.

Speaker: Are you sure about that, buddy?

Speaker: You sure about that?

Speaker: Yes.

Speaker: Good job, champ.

Speaker: That's probably a good point to say that we do not necessarily believe or endorse any of these theories that we talk about on this show.

Speaker: Yes.

Speaker: I mean, yeah, maybe you do.

Speaker: I don't know.

Speaker: Some of them I might.

Speaker: Some of them I might not.

Speaker: Maybe we'll convince Alex by the end of this.

Speaker: The Earth is flat, guys!

Speaker: No offence to anyone that does believe that.

Speaker: Full offence to people who do.

Speaker: Yeah, you're wrong.

Speaker: I'm sorry.

Speaker: Get that, Tom.

Speaker: Losers.

Speaker: Don't hate us.

Speaker: You can hate me.

Speaker: That's fine.

Speaker: You're just dropping truth bombs.

Speaker: Yeah, I'm just dropping truth bombs, okay?

Speaker: You're going to get a lot of hate mail now.

Speaker: That's fine.

Speaker: Alex Jones is after you.

Speaker: My hero.

Speaker: What a shame.

Speaker: We'll debate you, Alex Jones.

Speaker: Come on our show.

Speaker: We know you're listening.

Speaker: Man, I would love that.

Speaker: That'd be so cool.

Speaker: That's definitely one I'd wear my tinfoil hat to.

Speaker: 100%.

Speaker: But no, yeah, so back to what I'm meant to be doing.

Speaker: So, Kim, don't listen to a word he says.

Speaker: Mine's the better one.

Speaker: And we all know the earth is 100%, definitely, without a doubt, without a shadow of a doubt, hollow.

Speaker: But you've really not done much to prove this.

Speaker: No.

Speaker: We're like any evidence and you're like,

Speaker: No, yeah, because I don't believe in it.

Speaker: So how's that going to make me believe in it?

Speaker: Well, I'm not trying to get you to believe in it.

Speaker: I'm trying to make it entertaining so you pick my one.

Speaker: So I've gone for the reverse tactic.

Speaker: Yeah, you're not necessarily... We're not trying to make you believe.

Speaker: Although if we can, that's certainly going to help.

Speaker: But at the end of this, you're going to need to choose which one you think is more interesting.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: The Hollow Earth Theory, because there's multiple different ways.

Speaker: It could be dinosaurs.

Speaker: There could be monkey men.

Speaker: There could be aliens.

Speaker: There could just be lizard people.

Speaker: Who knows?

Speaker: Maybe Mark Zuckerberg's just chilling down there like, yo, what's up?

Speaker: But interesting.

Speaker: Men.

Speaker: He kind of looks like a lizard person.

Speaker: He does, doesn't he?

Speaker: He's a bit weird.

Speaker: But continuing on, what do you think?

Speaker: If there is another society down there, do you think they're advanced as us, or do you think they're tribal people?

Speaker: What are you saying?

Speaker: Tribal people?

Speaker: Like technology, likewise.

Speaker: No.

Speaker: Do you reckon they're as advanced as us, or do you reckon they're in the Stone Age still?

Speaker: Well, I think, going by what I said earlier, they must have no eyes.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Probably see-through skin.

Speaker: They probably rely more on smell or touch or something like that.

Speaker: Yeah, maybe.

Speaker: Maybe hearing that sound.

Speaker: What do they eat?

Speaker: They must live off moss.

Speaker: Would that even grow down there?

Speaker: Because there's no sunlight.

Speaker: It could be another world, just like

Speaker: Yeah, I suppose that's what people believe in Hollow Earth, isn't it?

Speaker: It's not like it's just a giant cave.

Speaker: It's just like a totally different paradise.

Speaker: It's what most people believe.

Speaker: Some weird paradise, but, you know, I guess each to their own, I suppose.

Speaker: Me, personally, I wouldn't... What would you like it to be like?

Speaker: Dingy and horrible and... No, no.

Speaker: No, I mean, if I wanted Paradise, it definitely wouldn't be Hollow Earth.

Speaker: I mean, I do like the idea of looking in like a Dwarven, Lord of the Rings-style society where you've got like huge carved-out walls.

Speaker: I mean, yeah, don't get me wrong.

Speaker: Massive underground forges.

Speaker: You've got to think forges, don't you?

Speaker: You're not doing it.

Speaker: Yes.

Speaker: So apparently you want to build a forge.

Speaker: Yeah, I want to buy one.

Speaker: You want to buy a forge?

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: How do you buy a forge?

Speaker: I got it off on my hand.

Speaker: But I think he needs to go to school first.

Speaker: Forge school.

Speaker: Forge school.

Speaker: Forge school.

Speaker: Because it's blacksmithing.

Speaker: I just, you know.

Speaker: by it.

Speaker: That's not a forge.

Speaker: Yeah, it is.

Speaker: It's not.

Speaker: It's a propane melting furnace.

Speaker: You can't make weapons with that.

Speaker: You know what a forge is, don't you?

Speaker: Yeah, that's the beginning part.

Speaker: What's a forge?

Speaker: Stuff with blacksmiths use.

Speaker: Yeah, so it's an open... That's not that.

Speaker: No, that's the beginning part.

Speaker: Yes, a bucket.

Speaker: Do you see blacksmiths with that?

Speaker: No, but obviously I'm pre-Btech.

Speaker: They all use protaine buckets.

Speaker: I'm pre-Btech though, aren't I?

Speaker: Let's be honest.

Speaker: And the word propane scares me.

Speaker: Why?

Speaker: Why?

Speaker: Why?

Speaker: Oh, okay.

Speaker: If we wouldn't have this down in the Hollow Earth.

Speaker: Just saying.

Speaker: They wouldn't let me.

Speaker: They wouldn't shun me.

Speaker: Well, go and get the next Buster Hollow Earth.

Speaker: That's my theory.

Speaker: I'm the better one.

Speaker: He ain't got enough.

Speaker: I keep him my options open.

Speaker: Well, I mean, in Alex's defence, I think he's gone for maybe something that people might not have heard of.

Speaker: This time round, I've gone with the OG...

Speaker: Oh, you're going flat.

Speaker: Flat Earth.

Speaker: Oh, God.

Speaker: It's, you know, it's the one that's sort of, like, the thing that I find really weird about the Flat Earth theory is

Speaker: just how popular it is i've been true there are so many people that believe doesn't have like its own community oh yeah i mean i know people doesn't have its own religion do you yeah religion religion i mean religion can go hand in hand a little bit um so there's apparently some bible verses that that people who believe in this seem to

Speaker: support the idea of the earth being flat okay um but yeah like most conspiracy theories have like a small little group of people that believe yeah but the flat earth theory i mean they have conventions that's true i don't really know many people that believe i think the only thing that competes with this and maybe is bigger is the idea of aliens yeah um but then there's so many different theories about aliens and what

Speaker: they might be, whether they're here, whether they've visited before or whether they've never been here.

Speaker: I mean, most, most people probably do believe that aliens exist.

Speaker: That's not really a conspiracy theory.

Speaker: That's just probability.

Speaker: But like, there's no evidence as far as I can tell for the flat earth theory.

Speaker: There's things that they like, some people might think there's evidence, but it's ultimately disproven.

Speaker: so um i'm just gonna go to my little notes i've got here to uh help myself remember here but um yeah i mean the idea of the the earth being flat has been around since as long as we've had records of people coming up with theories and that i mean the earth being a sphere began with the greeks um i can't remember exactly

Speaker: But it was something back then that was debated.

Speaker: And interestingly, if I remember right, I think the idea of the earth being flat kind of came back into popularity around sort of the Renaissance period.

Speaker: And this is where religion comes into it again as well.

Speaker: So it wasn't really that it was particularly believed by anyone, but the Protestants

Speaker: um spread this idea that catholic people believed this to make oh it's like kind of like a propaganda thing yeah to make the catholic church seem a little outdated and outdated um that being said i think there's always been a percentage of people that have believed this forever like since the dawn of time um but it's kind of fluctuated sometimes it'd be quite a lot sometimes it'd be really almost none

Speaker: But we've recently been having this spike and people believing this again.

Speaker: But also I think as well, it's a lot of people that worked on ships and stuff thought the Earth was flat because they thought they were going to see the horizon.

Speaker: Because they couldn't see anything beyond that horizon.

Speaker: They think they were just...

Speaker: There's also, um, like a lot of people that did believe this.

Speaker: So during, during the age of exploration where people were sailing out, obviously back then they believed only certain areas of what we now know as the world existed.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: So when someone would sail away and ultimately discover an entirely new land and maybe never come back because they either settled or died, people would be like, well, they never came back.

Speaker: They must've fallen off the edge of the earth.

Speaker: Or just kept going.

Speaker: I mean, I guess that makes a good, that's kind of a good point, isn't it?

Speaker: Because I guess it's also, it's easier to think about it as just kind of like the earth and it's like flat, especially with like maps, it's like early maps.

Speaker: Yeah, a lot of maps you can find, like some of them do show the earth as a globe, but some of them also show it as flat.

Speaker: Like it seems to be something that was definitely debated quite a bit back then.

Speaker: But obviously in the modern age with kind of,

Speaker: undeniable proof that it's not flat now.

Speaker: Yeah, we've gone up in space and seen it.

Speaker: I think it was a perfectly reasonable debate to have back then, because you just didn't really know.

Speaker: I mean, I suppose so, yeah.

Speaker: Like, back then, yeah, sure, okay, there were things to support the idea that maybe it was flat just as much as there was to support that it was... There was no real definitive either-or, I guess.

Speaker: Yeah, yeah, so it was kind of open for debate, but, like, now, obviously...

Speaker: The only way you can believe the Earth is flat is to just simply not believe other things that are essentially facts, such as the existence of space.

Speaker: Oh, so now you believe in space.

Speaker: International Space Station, huh?

Speaker: Well, if you're believing in the flat Earth, you probably don't believe in this.

Speaker: But another thing is, with that, it could be that they think people...

Speaker: haven't gone up to space and they're just making it all up.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: So the whole moon landing was faked and all that kind of stuff.

Speaker: People who believe in flat Earth usually believe this too.

Speaker: It's easier to believe that than to say that, oh yeah, space must exist in some way.

Speaker: I was going to say, if so...

Speaker: do a lot of flat-offers even believe in space or believe you can get to it?

Speaker: No.

Speaker: So, obviously, it can vary from person to person.

Speaker: Everyone's got their own little ideas.

Speaker: But the most commonly held thing is this idea that the Earth is a disk.

Speaker: In the middle of that disk is the Arctic Circle.

Speaker: Around the edges, around the rim of it,

Speaker: Yeah, I know, I said room.

Speaker: Sorry.

Speaker: There's like a 150-foot wall of ice.

Speaker: Why 150 feet?

Speaker: I don't know why specifically 150 feet, but NASA protects this wall, so you cannot cross it.

Speaker: God, that big evil NASA, you know, protecting that ice wall.

Speaker: They will not let anyone climb over that wall to discover what's on the other side.

Speaker: Like Game of Thrones.

Speaker: I was just about to say that.

Speaker: Maybe that's where everyone got the idea from.

Speaker: So they also tend to believe that the Earth... So instead of having space, what you actually have when you look up into the sky is this dome that covers the Earth, and it's called the firmament.

Speaker: The firmament.

Speaker: The firmament.

Speaker: The firmament.

Speaker: This basically surrounds the Earth instead, so what you see is pretty much all there is.

Speaker: And the planets are just stars as well.

Speaker: Planets are starless.

Speaker: Basically.

Speaker: So because of that, yeah, that means technically no space.

Speaker: No one's actually ever left the Earth.

Speaker: Would that firmament stop people from leaving?

Speaker: Is it like an actual... No, apparently no one's ever tried, so we don't know what's actually beyond the firmament.

Speaker: We also don't know what's on the other side of the ice walls, and we don't know what's underneath.

Speaker: Because if it's a flat disc, something must be underneath, right?

Speaker: That's follow-up.

Speaker: Maybe.

Speaker: Maybe it's combined.

Speaker: Or maybe this could go into the Nine Realms, you know, when you have the...

Speaker: You see, like, when you look at, like, say if you look at, like, the Nine Rings of Hell, and it has the disc, and it has one above the other.

Speaker: Maybe it's that.

Speaker: Maybe we're on, like, the Fourth Ring.

Speaker: One of the dimensions of hell.

Speaker: Maybe we're in one of those.

Speaker: Or if you want to go Northgard, you've got the... Oh, yeah, the other... Oh, like the World Tree.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Maybe.

Speaker: That's... Oh.

Speaker: So it kind of all interlinks though, doesn't it?

Speaker: You can kind of see where things kind of span off from, can't you?

Speaker: It's quite cool.

Speaker: Quite interesting.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Hollow Earth's better though.

Speaker: Well, I don't know... I don't know about you guys, but for me, I think the whole Flat Earth thing is kind of almost just... It's not really about where the Flat Earth exists.

Speaker: It's just this idea that...

Speaker: government governments of the world are lying to us right you know it's the new world order illuminati type thing they've got this big secret they don't want you to know because when you think about it you never see flat earth is trying to prove things or discover things like what's on the other side of the ice wall what's above the firmament what's below the earth there's never they never try to provide explanations for their own theory usually what they do is try to disprove the idea of the earth being round

Speaker: I guess that's a good point.

Speaker: I mean, some people, some of them do try to prove the Earth is flat, but then they accidentally prove that it's round.

Speaker: Yeah, no, but that's what I mean.

Speaker: What they're doing is actually trying to just prove the Earth is round.

Speaker: They'll do things like, you know, get a really good camera, go up somewhere really high and be like, look, you can't see the Earth curving.

Speaker: You can't see the curvature of the Earth.

Speaker: And it's like, well, firstly, the Earth is huge.

Speaker: Some cameras you can.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: If you go on a plane as well, yeah, you can absolutely see the curvature of the Earth.

Speaker: But...

Speaker: um what they are trying to do is really just disprove the fact that the earth is round that doesn't automatically prove that the flat earth theory is correct though no just because the earth's not a sphere if they somehow managed to prove that the earth was suddenly not round and we're like oh okay we had this wrong the whole time that doesn't mean everyone's going to be like okay there's definitely no space we just have this dome above us that that doesn't prove any of that

Speaker: so it seems like this is all just to me anyway it seems like it's just like they've

Speaker: they just don't trust world leaders.

Speaker: They feel like things are being kept from us.

Speaker: So it's like a conspiracy theory in a conspiracy theory.

Speaker: Yeah, kind of.

Speaker: Yeah, I feel like a lot of conspiracy theories deal with this, don't they?

Speaker: Like, it always just sort of comes down to this idea that it's like twofold.

Speaker: You've got distrust of people in power.

Speaker: And I think the idea of having some kind of knowledge that the general public doesn't have.

Speaker: So you have answers.

Speaker: It's something that happens with religion as well.

Speaker: I think where people are like, they like the idea of knowing the answers and other people don't.

Speaker: So you've got this information, this wisdom that you can share with everyone.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: And even if it's not really true, it's still appealing because of that.

Speaker: Yeah, I kind of get that, yeah.

Speaker: And yeah, a lot of the theories do do with obviously not trusting the government and stuff.

Speaker: Like, Viva La Revolution, as they say, you know.

Speaker: Silent uprising, let's do this, yeah, let's go flat earthers, yeah.

Speaker: So let's storm the, oh, what was it, the Capitol building?

Speaker: Yeah, yeah.

Speaker: That was what it was, I can't remember.

Speaker: That wasn't really flat earthers, though, was it?

Speaker: Well, no, that was Trump's cause.

Speaker: I mean, there's definitely some flat earthers there.

Speaker: Some flat earthers were definitely there.

Speaker: I think so.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Trump is trying to say, come on, flat earthers.

Speaker: Don't worry, guys.

Speaker: We'll prove it once and for all.

Speaker: We'll finally break the formula.

Speaker: We'll finally break the wall.

Speaker: Maybe that's what he was all about in the world.

Speaker: But he likes building walls.

Speaker: Maybe he just wanted to have an extension on the ice wall.

Speaker: Maybe he's the main flat earther.

Speaker: That's why he wanted to be president.

Speaker: So he can get into...

Speaker: cracking the code look at us and now he's got his like you know that spider-man's got not spider-man superman his little little ice hole ice hole yeah maybe maybe that's where he's right now that's very sick he's not in trump tower maybe that's the entrance to the hollow earth trump tower goes right down through that's hell oh yeah well same well is it though he might go to the same place you never know

Speaker: Is Hollow Earth the same as hell?

Speaker: It might be.

Speaker: I mean, if it's full of magma and, like, fire... But it's the devil there.

Speaker: No, that's just Trump.

Speaker: Maybe that's what it is.

Speaker: He's just secretly there.

Speaker: So maybe heaven is above the firmament.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Maybe it's all connected.

Speaker: I should have researched this, because now I'm thinking about it.

Speaker: People are probably going to be like, no, you're entirely wrong.

Speaker: This isn't a thing.

Speaker: But I feel like the word firmament has come up in the Bible.

Speaker: It sounds familiar.

Speaker: It's a biblical word.

Speaker: So perhaps that's where the religious element comes in with people.

Speaker: People who are, say, Christian feel like you've got our plane.

Speaker: Underneath this flat earth is hell.

Speaker: And you've got the firmament, but above that is where God and the angels... Yeah, it is kind of like the arch of the sky.

Speaker: It's Game of Thrones.

Speaker: It's the original Game of Thrones.

Speaker: It does almost feel like people are just trying to create some kind of fantasy world.

Speaker: It does a bit.

Speaker: I kind of love that vibe.

Speaker: The distortion starts to happen between reality and fantasy, where the world they're writing about, they begin to start imagining as actually real.

Speaker: I want to swing a sword in real life.

Speaker: I can do it.

Speaker: So...

Speaker: Any questions about this flat earth area?

Speaker: No, I-I- no.

Speaker: How many drugs did you take when you were coming out of this?

Speaker: All of them.

Speaker: That doesn't surprise me.

Speaker: Why wasn't I invited?

Speaker: You got them from the flat earthers.

Speaker: Maybe.

Speaker: Only the legal ones.

Speaker: Paracetamol.

Speaker: God, love that one.

Speaker: All the disc-shaped drugs.

Speaker: Ah, yes, yes, yes.

Speaker: Mine was pretty difficult.

Speaker: Most of the medicine wasn't there because I had to hollow out.

Speaker: Well, you could just pretend the polo meant.

Speaker: Yeah, that's my medicine, the polo.

Speaker: It's, yeah.

Speaker: Polos are underrated.

Speaker: You mentioned at the beginning of this episode about the back of a turtle type thing.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: And the Flat Earth theory kind of does go hand in hand with that.

Speaker: It does a little bit.

Speaker: Usually people...

Speaker: I'm not sure if anyone actually believes anymore on the turtle back thing.

Speaker: But we saw that animals as well.

Speaker: But the idea was that it was a flat earth, a disc-shaped earth that sat on the back.

Speaker: And yeah, it could be an elephant.

Speaker: The Terry Bratchett thing, I think, was like, was it like a turtle on the back of multiple elephants?

Speaker: Yeah, I've seen that, yeah.

Speaker: It's kind of like taking the piss out of the whole idea a little bit.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: But they kind of go hand in hand.

Speaker: I mean, I think some of them, like, more of the

Speaker: I guess more modern theories kind of indicate it's like around Earth.

Speaker: You're right, like especially most of them.

Speaker: I've only known it for being a desk on a turtle.

Speaker: Yeah, I've known it, but I can swear I've seen before like images especially of like... It doesn't really matter either way, I mean it's not my theory.

Speaker: But the flat Earth kind of like... Obviously if we don't know what's below it, those two theories work perfectly together.

Speaker: We're not on the back of a turtle.

Speaker: Yeah, but I mean, we don't know what's underneath, so it could be.

Speaker: I think the reason why they would rather say that they don't know is because the whole idea of it being a giant turtle sounds even more preposterous.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Prosterous?

Speaker: Preposterous.

Speaker: I can't speak.

Speaker: Shame.

Speaker: I'm joking.

Speaker: Even stupider.

Speaker: Stupider.

Speaker: Stupider.

Speaker: Stupider.

Speaker: Right, um... Ooh, do I get to the side now?

Speaker: Yeah, yeah.

Speaker: So, which... Who has entertained you more today?

Speaker: Well, you both have.

Speaker: Yeah, but... Yeah, but let's be honest.

Speaker: But... I think Alex should have done more research.

Speaker: Well, one's a frisbee, one has aliens involved.

Speaker: You decide.

Speaker: I'm going with Flat Earth.

Speaker: Fuck!

Speaker: I win again!

Speaker: God damn it!

Speaker: You didn't come prepared.

Speaker: You didn't come prepared.

Speaker: I tried.

Speaker: You... You, um...

Speaker: So for anyone that probably doesn't know, I'm not sure if we mentioned this earlier, but Alex had notes that consisted of one line.

Speaker: Two paragraphs.

Speaker: No, it was like not even a full sentence, I'd say.

Speaker: Look.

Speaker: Whereas I have a good page worth of notes.

Speaker: I've done my research.

Speaker: My main thought of this was obviously because it wasn't like we're trying to convince them.

Speaker: So I was like, I'm going to make it entertaining.

Speaker: I'm going to make it enjoyable.

Speaker: So they're like, yeah, you know what?

Speaker: You made me chuckle.

Speaker: You were quite funny.

Speaker: That...

Speaker: Yeah, I kind of find... And also not provide all the answers.

Speaker: If you provide all the answers, you've just told a theory and told them everything they need to know, and they're like, oh, well, I have nothing to go into it with.

Speaker: I have no interest in it, because you just flabbed facts at me.

Speaker: So next episode, you're going to come prepared?

Speaker: Probably not, but I would definitely try.

Speaker: I'll maybe change my tax track because obviously this time it was a bit like, oh, you know, I'll just provide you with some information and let your mind delve in from there.

Speaker: But I guess that didn't work.

Speaker: You went for the frisbee.

Speaker: I did.

Speaker: Polos would be disappointed.

Speaker: Wow, okay.

Speaker: But that doesn't necessarily mean that I won.

Speaker: Maybe I can finally get a point.

Speaker: Because now we've got to get to our little trivia section.

Speaker: God, I'm losing 3-0.

Speaker: This is bad.

Speaker: Episode 2 and you're already... Oh, I got one point.

Speaker: Well, so far.

Speaker: So far.

Speaker: So you can still come back to this.

Speaker: Why are you looking at me?

Speaker: You get two questions right now.

Speaker: Oh, I've got to get two?

Speaker: Well, in order to win, yeah.

Speaker: You get one question, right?

Speaker: We're at a tie.

Speaker: Well, hopefully I can get one.

Speaker: That way it'll be like 3-1.

Speaker: All right.

Speaker: 3-1, I think you mean 2-1.

Speaker: Wow.

Speaker: Please be a nice question.

Speaker: Do you have a question for us today?

Speaker: I do have a question.

Speaker: Oh, God.

Speaker: And on the topic of the shape of the earth.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: Okay.

Speaker: Easy question.

Speaker: is it what shape is the earth that's a trick question it's hollow it's a polo it's a hollow it is a cube minecraft it yeah nah it's round no seriously is this fair sure yeah actually

Speaker: Oh, a bumpy sphere.

Speaker: I think it's kind of oval shape, or like egg shapes, isn't it?

Speaker: Is it?

Speaker: What a weirdo... It's not like a perfect circle.

Speaker: It's like a rhombus.

Speaker: Are you looking for like an exact term here?

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Oh, well, oval, oh, you said that.

Speaker: I've already said sphere, haven't I?

Speaker: What other circle shapes are there?

Speaker: What other circle shapes are there?

Speaker: I like how you said this in E.

Speaker: What other circle shapes are there?

Speaker: So, do you think the Earth is completely round?

Speaker: I mean, no, it's a bit bumpy and probably more... I don't know.

Speaker: I'm not up in space, am I?

Speaker: It's got like a... Is it sort of like flat on the top a little bit?

Speaker: Maybe.

Speaker: It's got hit on the head.

Speaker: Well, it's like a semicircle, a semisphere.

Speaker: Well, it's a sphere.

Speaker: So should I tell you?

Speaker: Only if I get the point.

Speaker: Well, you and no one will get the point.

Speaker: Well, actually, you might.

Speaker: What?

Speaker: Because of what he just said.

Speaker: So it's an oblate spheroid.

Speaker: And you think I'm going to know that word?

Speaker: You think I'm going to be intelligent enough to know that word?

Speaker: What does it mean?

Speaker: So it's wider in the middle than the pulse.

Speaker: So it's wider in the equator than it is on the poles.

Speaker: It's a fat circle.

Speaker: You did say go for shape questions.

Speaker: And I've done my research.

Speaker: Does that mean you have to ask the second question?

Speaker: The second question is related.

Speaker: It's going to be like, oh, what shape's this?

Speaker: It's going to be like a rhombotic diamond or something like that.

Speaker: I don't know.

Speaker: What's going on?

Speaker: Oh, God, you're going to kill me.

Speaker: Oh, God.

Speaker: Well, no points for me.

Speaker: What causes the Earth to be wider in the equator than the poles?

Speaker: Gravity?

Speaker: Magnetic field.

Speaker: The orbit of the sun or something.

Speaker: I don't know.

Speaker: The Earth's orbit.

Speaker: Think...

Speaker: Would it be like the inertia of it?

Speaker: I don't know.

Speaker: Think of it.

Speaker: What's another word?

Speaker: Force, gravity.

Speaker: No, you're saying force and gravity.

Speaker: Orbit.

Speaker: Kind of, what does the Earth do?

Speaker: It's axis.

Speaker: It spins.

Speaker: What's the... Rotates.

Speaker: Yes!

Speaker: Fuck!

Speaker: But the actual words.

Speaker: Oh, yeah, right.

Speaker: It is kind of the word, but the actual... Is rotational force?

Speaker: No.

Speaker: Rotational gravity?

Speaker: I should have picked a really easier question.

Speaker: Rotational spinach.

Speaker: Spinach.

Speaker: I already said rotational force, didn't I?

Speaker: Rotational orbit?

Speaker: No.

Speaker: I don't know.

Speaker: We're idiots.

Speaker: You should have picked an easier question.

Speaker: Like, watch Minecraft.

Speaker: It's a century fugal.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: I'm not from NASA.

Speaker: Well, I feel a lot dumber now.

Speaker: But I'm also happy because I've still won.

Speaker: So...

Speaker: Now you know how I feel every day.

Speaker: You feel stupid.

Speaker: I did like... That's how I feel.

Speaker: So I did my research on questions.

Speaker: Oh, I did research as well.

Speaker: And it's really hard to find things about the shape of the earth.

Speaker: What, like questions?

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: I just pick things.

Speaker: I guess so.

Speaker: But it's interesting because, you know you were saying about maps?

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: And they're flat.

Speaker: If you look at the old maps where it's flat at the top but round on the edges...

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Does that mean I get a point for bringing up maps?

Speaker: It's not up to me though, is it?

Speaker: I really want a point.

Speaker: I'm down like three points.

Speaker: But that's what they're saying.

Speaker: It bulges in the middle, but it's flatter at top.

Speaker: Now, at least it's better than women.

Speaker: I'm sorry, but the flutter has a rim.

Speaker: And it bulges.

Speaker: Is it a bulging rim?

Speaker: Yes.

Speaker: But come on, they were quite good questions.

Speaker: They were good questions.

Speaker: They were good questions.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: All right.

Speaker: Thick or not, though, I still won.

Speaker: Sorry, Alex.

Speaker: Do I not get a point for the maps?

Speaker: Maybe next time.

Speaker: I can half a point.

Speaker: Can I get half a point?

Speaker: You can have half a point.

Speaker: Yes!

Speaker: He did say about the maps, didn't he?

Speaker: Like, you can have...

Speaker: The globe, and then you can have the flat maps.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Eat that, Joe.

Speaker: I've got half a point now.

Speaker: But he didn't understand what about the flat maps, though, did you?

Speaker: Why they're like that.

Speaker: Yeah, I did.

Speaker: I just didn't want to tell you.

Speaker: Please don't take away my half a point.

Speaker: I need this.

Speaker: Please.

Speaker: Oh, boy.

Speaker: Well, so, next episode, I think I do want to go down the route of

Speaker: mythological creatures.

Speaker: Whether or not they exist.

Speaker: What, just as a whole?

Speaker: No.

Speaker: I think if we each choose a specific creature that we can talk about.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: Um,

Speaker: Mythical.

Speaker: Mythical.

Speaker: Mythical creature.

Speaker: Like unicorns.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Exactly like a unicorn or something like that.

Speaker: I don't know.

Speaker: Medusa.

Speaker: I could do like the Wendigo, couldn't I?

Speaker: Fairies.

Speaker: A lot of people believe in fairies.

Speaker: Would the Wendigo work?

Speaker: Wendigo.

Speaker: Maybe slightly offensive to some people, but you could say demons, angels.

Speaker: Greek.

Speaker: mythical oh yeah cyclops there's there's there's a whole array of of creatures that are technically mythical creatures that there are people out there do believe they exist i believe in berries sorry do you yeah

Speaker: Do you think they're in the Hollow Earth down below?

Speaker: But they need to be something.

Speaker: I think because we'll probably end up doing an episode about ghosts and things like that.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: This needs to be things that are alive, not undead.

Speaker: Alive mythical creatures.

Speaker: Yeah, things that are living amongst us, but we're just not necessarily aware.

Speaker: So you don't see, you know.

Speaker: Right.

Speaker: They are hiding.

Speaker: So fairies, they live in the woods.

Speaker: Okay.

Speaker: Okay.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: You seem a little confused.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: Why?

Speaker: Because you're like, yeah, mythical creatures that are alive.

Speaker: It's like, well, they're mythical, aren't they?

Speaker: They're not alive.

Speaker: That's kind of the point.

Speaker: But they are.

Speaker: That's what you need to prove.

Speaker: They're mythical for a reason.

Speaker: Maybe this is why I'm not getting any points.

Speaker: I think you're starting to not understand what conspiracy theories are.

Speaker: No, I do.

Speaker: They're things that people genuinely believe aren't real, but some people out there do.

Speaker: Thank you, everyone.

Speaker: If anyone for viewing or listening to our podcast today, thank you, Kim, for joining us.

Speaker: My pleasure.

Speaker: Thank you very much.

Speaker: Hope I come back soon.

Speaker: Yeah.

Speaker: We'll see.

Speaker: We'll see.

Speaker: Sorry for my actions, sir.

Speaker: What do you mean, we'll see?

Speaker: I'm just kidding.

Speaker: Or am I?

Speaker: Maybe I can get another half.

Speaker: That could be another theory.

Speaker: It's a conspiracy.

Speaker: Does Joe lie constantly?

Speaker: God, this is getting too much now.

Speaker: Or you just don't like my questions.

Speaker: I mean, you do make me feel a little dumb.

Speaker: Now you know how I feel.
