
In the late 1800s, anarchism was gaining momentum across Washington State, inspiring groups of idealists to create communities built around shared land, labor, and radical ideas. One such colony took root near Anderson Island and managed to survive for nearly 20 years, but eventually, the community began to unravel. What brought down this utopian experiment? Internal conflict, changing ideals, and, apparently… skinny dipping.
