Introduction and Taylor's Journey
00:00:03
Speaker
Welcome to the Solarpreneur Podcast where we teach you to take your solar business to the next level.
00:00:08
Speaker
My name is Taylor Armstrong.
00:00:10
Speaker
I went from $50 in my bank account and struggling for groceries to closing 150 deals in a year and cracking the code on why sales reps fell.
00:00:19
Speaker
I teach you to avoid the mistakes I made and bring in the top solar dogs of the industry to let you in on the secrets of generating more leads, falling up like a pro and closing more deals.
Defining a Solopreneur and Podcast Goals
00:00:31
Speaker
What is a solopreneur, you might ask?
00:00:33
Speaker
A solopreneur is a new breed of solopro that is willing to do whatever it takes to achieve mastery, and you are about to become one.
00:00:42
Speaker
Should you do solopreneur year-round, or should you do blitzes?
00:00:46
Speaker
We're going to be talking about that topic today and a whole
Milestone and Listener Appreciation
00:00:50
Speaker
Thanks for joining us on today's episode of the Solopreneur Podcast.
00:00:54
Speaker
We have been going at this for a while, so thanks for tuning in.
00:00:58
Speaker
We are at, let's check here,
00:01:01
Speaker
That's all the episodes.
00:01:04
Speaker
So let me know if you've listened to every one of them.
00:01:07
Speaker
I should probably do like, I don't know, that 200 club or something if you've tuned into every single episode because that's all the episodes.
00:01:14
Speaker
A whole lot of content there.
00:01:15
Speaker
So appreciate everyone that has joined us on the Solarepreneur ride.
00:01:19
Speaker
that has joined us on the solar coaster.
00:01:21
Speaker
And we're here to make that solar coaster a whole lot less rocky.
00:01:25
Speaker
Should have worded that better.
00:01:26
Speaker
A whole, anyways, less rocky than it should be.
Introducing the Blitz Model with Nick Finger
00:01:30
Speaker
know what I'm trying to say.
00:01:30
Speaker
So we're going to be talking about the Blitz model a little bit.
00:01:33
Speaker
And this comes from actually a little preview for our next podcast guest,
00:01:38
Speaker
His name is Nick Finger.
00:01:40
Speaker
He runs Voltaic out here in California.
00:01:43
Speaker
And I had a conversation with him.
00:01:47
Speaker
It's been a few months at least now.
00:01:49
Speaker
We're launching it a little bit later.
00:01:50
Speaker
But he is all about this blitzing model.
00:01:53
Speaker
And he is one of the most successful companies I've seen running.
00:01:57
Speaker
So if you're new to solar or have no idea what I'm talking about, just to fill you in, a blitz is where you take a team out, you go to a different area.
00:02:05
Speaker
Usually it's driving at least a few hours from your regular turf that you knock or you're working and you go just blitz it.
00:02:13
Speaker
So you get a hotel, you get an Airbnb, you have your whole team just work like dogs for a week or two weeks or however long.
00:02:21
Speaker
And then you go back and you take a little break.
00:02:23
Speaker
And a lot of guys are doing this
00:02:24
Speaker
pretty successfully now, just working super hard and then going back.
00:02:28
Speaker
And you're going to hear all about how Nick does this successfully on the next podcast.
00:02:33
Speaker
Make sure you tune into that.
00:02:34
Speaker
But I think it's interesting now because what I'm seeing is it's teaching guys how to really shock their system and
00:02:41
Speaker
See what's possible if they go all out and really push their limits.
00:02:45
Speaker
So I think that's kind of the goal of today's podcast is just to get you to consider a Blitz model.
Benefits of the Blitz Mindset
00:02:52
Speaker
And maybe you're not going out and traditionally driving to a different state or driving hours away, but consider...
00:02:57
Speaker
Consider the benefits of doing a little blitz.
00:03:00
Speaker
Even if you are in your own market, I'm in San Diego, maybe you're in Phoenix, Arizona, wherever you're at, maybe you're working a local market, but even in that market, have you really pushed yourself to the limits?
00:03:12
Speaker
Have you given it everything you have?
00:03:14
Speaker
worked as hard as you can.
00:03:15
Speaker
And especially guys that have only done solar, I see so many lazy solar reps and a lot of guests that have been on the podcast here, they've come from alarms, they've come from pest control.
00:03:26
Speaker
And I think what's really cool about that is in pest control, they had us working 10 hours a day, sometimes more,
00:03:32
Speaker
And solar, you never really hear that.
00:03:34
Speaker
And when I say working, I mean knocking doors.
00:03:36
Speaker
In solar, it's pretty rare to hear that, oh, I went out and knocked 10 hours today.
00:03:41
Speaker
Like people, guys just don't knock that much in solar.
00:03:43
Speaker
Maybe some do, but if you're working that hard, you are one of the hardest workers in solar.
00:03:49
Speaker
And it's good solar.
00:03:49
Speaker
We can get an appointment.
00:03:51
Speaker
We can get away with not knocking as much.
00:03:53
Speaker
We can set up our day, have some success.
00:03:56
Speaker
But it's really cool to see what guys can push themselves to achieve if you really go all out.
00:04:01
Speaker
And I am currently in this Knockstar competition.
00:04:04
Speaker
I think I mentioned it, but I'm in the Knockstar United program where some of the best guys go head to head.
00:04:10
Speaker
I'm in the competition in the second round right now.
00:04:13
Speaker
So that's really what I'm trying to do this week is just push myself to different limits.
00:04:17
Speaker
Even though I'm not going out and blitzing, I'm trying to go all out, trying to see what I can accomplish, see how far it takes me.
Avoiding Distractions for Success
00:04:24
Speaker
And there are guys like I know I'm not the hardest working guy in solar.
00:04:28
Speaker
OK, I'll be the first to say that there are guys that are working a lot more than I am.
00:04:32
Speaker
But if you haven't challenged yourself to produce for a while, if you haven't competed, maybe your company doesn't do competitions.
00:04:39
Speaker
I want to challenge you to take on a blitz mindset.
00:04:41
Speaker
OK, just go for a week, challenge yourself, give yourself an incentive to see what you can actually produce if you go all out for a week.
00:04:49
Speaker
And then the other key with this is just do hard things in general.
00:04:52
Speaker
Our mind is so trained to just do the easiest thing possible.
00:04:56
Speaker
We got social media these days.
00:04:58
Speaker
We got video games.
00:04:59
Speaker
We got addictions.
00:05:01
Speaker
A whole lot of stuff going on.
00:05:02
Speaker
And what happens every time we indulge in
00:05:04
Speaker
Instagram, every time we indulge in smoking that joint or whatever you're doing, it's sending dopamine to the brain.
00:05:11
Speaker
And what does our brain want?
00:05:12
Speaker
It just wants more of that dopamine.
00:05:14
Speaker
And so as human beings, we just learn to crave this dopamine rush.
00:05:18
Speaker
Sometimes getting out and knocking doors, sometimes getting out and working, sometimes making that next call to follow up with somebody,
00:05:25
Speaker
that you said you're going to follow up with, sometimes that's not the greatest dopamine rush.
Challenge Yourself with the Blitz Mindset
00:05:30
Speaker
Sometimes it's more tempting to just go scroll on Instagram, get on social media, or play your Clash of Clans, whatever game you got going.
00:05:37
Speaker
Those games get me sometimes.
00:05:38
Speaker
So I want to challenge you to be wary of that.
00:05:42
Speaker
Be just conscious of how much time you're spending on those things and how much dopamine is getting sent to your brain as you go through those activities.
00:05:50
Speaker
And then take on a blitz mindset.
00:05:52
Speaker
See how far you can take yourself if you go super
00:05:56
Speaker
Okay, so next podcast, you're going to be hearing Nick talk a lot more about this, but just really wanted to preview it really wanted to challenge you if you have not pushed hard, just try it for a week and then go do
Personal Challenges and Mental Strength
00:06:07
Speaker
If you're watching the video of this, you see I got my little jujitsu metal hanging.
00:06:11
Speaker
And that's something hard that I challenge myself to do.
00:06:14
Speaker
I'm doing a half marathon
00:06:16
Speaker
here in a month or two training for that right now.
00:06:18
Speaker
That's something I never thought I would do something hard.
00:06:21
Speaker
So if you feel yourself getting soft, if you feel yourself gaining a lot of weight, feel yourself just not to a level where you want yourself to be, go challenge yourself with something.
00:06:30
Speaker
Maybe get in, do 75 hard.
00:06:32
Speaker
I've talked about that, the benefits of doing a program like 75 hard because really none of these things are really physical.
00:06:39
Speaker
They're more mental than they're physical.
00:06:41
Speaker
If you can push yourself to the limits, if you can challenge yourself with something new, if you can push yourself to do something, even though it's not giving you dopamine to your brain and not getting you as excited as maybe hopping on Instagram, what that's going to do, it's going to reprogram your brain and it's going to teach it that you're the one in control.
00:06:58
Speaker
No matter what your brain doesn't want to do, it doesn't want to go out and hit that next door.
00:07:02
Speaker
It doesn't want to go do that follow-up call.
00:07:04
Speaker
It doesn't want to work 12 hours today.
00:07:06
Speaker
See what the limits are.
00:07:07
Speaker
Push yourselves and go as hard as you can.
00:07:10
Speaker
Okay, but that's the benefit of thinking more like a blitz model.
00:07:14
Speaker
And then, but next episode, we're going to talk blitz versus year round.
00:07:17
Speaker
What's the differences?
00:07:18
Speaker
What's the benefits?
Encouragement to Do Hard Things and Next Episode Teaser
00:07:19
Speaker
So make sure you tune into that.
00:07:21
Speaker
Do something hard today that you haven't done in a while.
00:07:23
Speaker
Start doing those cold showers.
00:07:25
Speaker
Start pushing yourselves, get in a competition, join a program, or even just use, I mentioned it before, there's the stick app, S-T-I-K-K, I think.
00:07:34
Speaker
Yeah, that should be right.
00:07:35
Speaker
But that was one of the first apps I used to start challenging myself and put my money where my mouth was.
00:07:42
Speaker
And if you don't know, I've mentioned it on the podcast a few times, but that's where you can go and sign up.
00:07:46
Speaker
You can put a money bet down.
00:07:48
Speaker
You can have it go to another person or you can donate it to an anti-charity, which means a charity you don't support.
00:07:54
Speaker
The money is going to get sent to and it's going to push you to do what you say.
00:07:58
Speaker
So think about doing something like that.
00:08:00
Speaker
Next episode, Nick Finger, don't miss out.
00:08:02
Speaker
He's going to drop some bombs on why you should consider doing a blitz model and help you set it up.
00:08:08
Speaker
If you want to go back to your company and help set it up, or if you're a business owner, think about doing it.
00:08:12
Speaker
So we'll see you on the next one.
00:08:13
Speaker
Go crush it this week.
00:08:14
Speaker
And with that, I'm out.
00:08:18
Speaker
What's up, solopreneurs?
00:08:19
Speaker
Hope you enjoyed the
